How Donald Trump spends his billions

It's well-known that Donald Trump is a very wealthy man, but his actual net worth has always been a bit of a question mark.

Throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump has boasted about his wealth, at times claiming to be worth as much as $10 billion. But as recent reports have shown, it's likely that his net worth is considerably less — according to a recent Forbes investigation, for example, Trump's wealth has declined in recent months as the value of his retail and office properties has gone down, and his net worth could now be closer to $3.7 billion.

One thing is for certain, though: regardless of how many billions Trump has, he knows how to spread his fortune around.

Aside from running some of the best-known apartment buildings in the country, he also owns a personal portfolio of homes from Manhattan to Palm Beach, all of which are drenched in gold.

Keep scrolling to check out Trump's collection of homes, cars, aircrafts, and more.

April Walloga and Meredith Galante contributed reporting to an earlier version of this post.

A Los Angeles mansion that was listed earlier this year for an eye-popping $150 million just sold in a complex deal to Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Gores will be trading several properties in the area in exchange for this new home, which was built on speculation on the same lot where Barbara Streisand's "Mon Rêve" estate once stood. The deal is estimated to be worth $100 million.

Located in the ritzy Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, the new structure covers a whopping 38,000 square feet and has 10 bedrooms and 20 full baths. Additional amenities include private hiking trails and a movie theater complex with its own guest valet entrance.

It was developed by Gala Asher of Dream Projects LA, who purchased the land from tech entrepreneur David Bohnett for $13.25 million in 2014. Streisand's original home was demolished shortly after she sold it to former music exec Les Bider in 2000. Bider then sold the empty lot to Bohnett.

Ginger Glass of Coldwell Banker Previews International had the listing.

The home is set behind a gate at the end of a private road.

The 'Apple of China' just showed us what the iPhone 8 could look like

Chinese tech company Xiaomi on Tuesday revealed the Mi Mix smartphone, which could hint at what the next iPhone would look like.

The Mi Mix, which will go on sale in China starting next month, has incredibly thin borders around its large 6.4-inch screen, making it look almost as if the entire front surface is the display.

Indeed, the Mi Mix's design closely matches rumors about Apple's next iPhone, which is also said to have no borders or bezels, making for an "all-display" front surface.

Check out the Xiaomi Mi Mix and how it could show us what the next iPhone will look like:

Apple's next iPhone is said to have no borders or bezels, like the concept below. It makes for a striking design.

But Xiaomi has beaten Apple to the punch with the Mi Mix, which seemingly has no borders or bezels on the sides.

The sides have the thinnest borders we've seen on any smartphone, and the bottom of the phone is the only place you'll find a noticeable border.

Here's how IoT is transforming 6 different industries

John Deere HarvestLab

From agriculture to retail, the Internet of Things (IoT) is changing how companies in many industries do business.

This is more evident than ever at the IoT Solutions World Congress, which kicked off in Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday.

Industry experts from all sectors are at the event showcasing how they are using smart systems to better their business.

Here's a look at six industries being transformed by IoT.

SEE ALSO: BI heads to Barcelona to cover the IoT World Solutions Congress

Agriculture

Agriculture is embracing IoT in a big way.

According to BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, IoT device installations in the agriculture industry are estimated to grow from 30 million in 2015 to 75 million in 2020.

Farmers are collecting data about their crops and livestock in a variety of ways. For example, John Deere has started using sensors in its tractors to connect them to the internet so that farmers can easily access data about their crop yields. By combining those sensors with advanced data analysis, farmers can get a sense for the best times to plant crops and how to optimize their yields.

Healthcare

Connecting the healthcare industry means not only more efficient business, but can mean better service for the patient.

For example, by connecting an MRI machine or other medical devices up to the internet, hospital staff can get alerts for when repairs are needed. This may sound like a small thing, but in a hospital a working piece of medical equipment could mean the difference between life or death.

"If we can use sensor data in these machines and collect data off the machines and the behavior of how that machine is being used...we can fairly accurately predict when it is going to fail," GE Digital chief experience officer Greg Petroff told Business Insider.  "So this lets you choose when to do the repair so that it won't impact operations of the hospitals," he said.

Retail

Retail may not be the first sector that comes to mind when thinking about digital industry. But even it is beginning to be transformed by IoT.

For example, retailers are beginning to use bluetooth beacons in their stories to better reach their customers. These beacons enable communication with customers' mobile phones to enable location-based services.

So, for example, once the consumer has linked with the retailers app, they could receive more information about specific products and get personalized discounts.

Donald Trump's business empire may be in danger.

Visits to Trump-branded hotels, casinos and golf courses has seriously slumped since Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, according to data collected by Foursquare

recent report in The New York Times found that some Trump customers are fleeing his brands because of his divisive comments about women, minorities, and immigrants throughout the campaign.

However, there seems to be at least one place where Trump has been able to attract plenty of visitors: Trump Tower.

We visited Trump Tower two weeks before Election Day to see what it was like.

The building is located on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan. Trump Tower serves as both the headquarters of the Trump Foundation and Donald Trump's primary residence when the candidate is in New York City.

Trump — who owns the building — lives in the penthouse, a three-story residence with floor-to-ceiling marble and a golden front door, according to Bloomberg. The rest of the building is used as offices amd residential space. There are five publicly-accessible floors, which I wandered around for two hours.

On a recent Monday in late October, about a dozen people stopped outside the tower to gawk and snap pictures.

Not every photographer is a fan of Donald Trump's campaign. Scrolling through the location tag on Instagram reveals dozens of shots of people brandishing their middle fingers at the tower.

5 states may legalize recreational marijuana use this year — here's what we know

$

Nearly half of the US has already legalized marijuana for either medical or recreational use. This November, nine states could continue the trend.

marijuana colorado

Of those nine states, five have ballot initiatives that could result in legal recreational use. Most significantly, California could legalize recreational use — thus making the entire West Coast a legal enclave for recreational cannabis.

All the initiatives below will be voted on this November, alongside the presidential election. Here's everything we know:

SEE ALSO: Marijuana legalization is facing a major challenge from the alcohol industry

DON'T MISS: These are the 9 most popular weed strains in Colorado

1. Massachusetts

In Massachusetts on November 8, voters will choose yes or no on Question 4 — a bill to legalize the recreational use, possession, cultivation, and sale of marijuana. The bill calls for regulation along the lines of alcohol, if passed.

Though Massachusetts is a long-running blue state, the legalization effort in the commonwealth faces serious opposition from sitting leadership in both parties. Republican Gov. Charlie Baker and Boston Democratic Mayor Marty Walsh oppose recreational legalization. The two joined Attorney General Maura Healey in a Boston Globe op-ed this March opposing the measure:

"Our state has already decriminalized the drug for personal use, and we've made it legally available for medical use. The question before us now is whether marijuana should be fully legal and widely available for commercial sale. We think the answer is 'no.'"

All that said, a majority of voters support the measure, according to the current polling average on Ballotpedia. And two previous measures — to decriminalize use and legalize medical use — passed by a wide margin.

If it passes, the bill would fully legalize recreational marijuana starting on December 15, 2016.

Name:Question 4

Chance of passing: Good. The average of polls, according to Ballotpedia, is 50.4% support versus 41.9% opposed, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

2. Maine

In Maine on November 8, voters will choose yes or no on Question 1 — a bill to legalize the recreational use, possession, cultivation, and sale of marijuana to adults over 21. Maine already allows for medicinal marijuana use.

Though Maine is a Democrat-leaning state, and this bill looks destined for passing with overwhelming support, several prior legalization efforts have failed. This time, things look more certain: Over $1 million was raised in pursuit of legalization in Maine, much of which was already spent gathering the signatures necessary to get Question 1 on the ballot this November.

Attorney General Janet Mills and Gov. Paul LePage both oppose legalization, but there appears to be no formal opposition groups for this November's ballot measure.

Name:Question 1

Chance of passing: Good. The average of polls, according to Ballotpedia, is 53.4% support versus 40.2% opposed, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.23 percentage points.

3. Arizona

In Arizona on November 8, voters will choose yes or no on Proposition 205 — a bill to legalize the recreation use and cultivation of marijuana.

If passed, regulation of marijuana would be handled on a state level, while regulation of individual retail stores would be handled on a town/city level. Legalization would only apply to residents age 21 or older.

Despite Sen. John McCain's support of legalization in the state, Republican Gov. Doug Ducey opposes the initiative. Overall, Arizona is an overwhelmingly red state and has been for decades. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took the state's 11 electoral votes from President Barack Obama in 2012.

That said, Arizona is a state with rapidly changing demographics — and with that demographic shift comes a political shift. Polling shows a close race in the battle over marijuana legalization, but the proposition, currently, looks as though it won't pass.

Name:Proposition 205

Chance of passing: Not good. The average of polls puts support at 45.74%, and opposition at 45.56%, according to Ballotpedia. With a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points, it's possible the proposition will pass, but it's not a sure thing.

The history of this centuries-old stone building is a bit vague, but legend says Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was built sometime between 1761 and 1762, and that the blacksmithing was just a front to hide the illegal activities of pirate Jean Lafitte. The building, now an atmospheric piano bar, is lit only by candlelight. Numerous guests have spotted Jean Laffite himself lingering around the fireplace (where it’s said he stashed his gold), sitting at a back table, or hanging around the women's restroom (he was a notorious womanizer). Guests have also reported seeing a distraught woman in period garb pacing towards the back of the building.

Pioneer Saloon

Where: Goodsprings, Nevada

About 35 minutes west of Las Vegas, out in the lonesome desert of Nevada, lies the abandoned mining town of Goodsprings. Booming in the early twentieth century, the town boasted a magnificent hotel, shops, apartments and, of course, a saloon. All that's really left now is Pioneer Saloon, which will transport you right back to its founding year of 1913. Inside, check out a cluster of three holes punched through the tin wall; these were made when a drunken miner, cheating at poker, lunged for the card dealer. The dealer responded with three gunshots that went through the man and the wall. Many strange events occur here, causing locals and visitors alike to assume the ghost of the miner is trapped here, maybe still playing cards at the back table.

Ear Inn

Where: New York, New York

One of New York City's oldest bars, the Ear Inn has been serving drinks since the early nineteenth century. Because of its location next to the Hudson River, the inn was frequented by sailors, merchants, pirates, and many of the city's undesirables. The building was also reportedly used as a brothel during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when it was also a speakeasy. Given its lurid history, many modern-day patrons have seen the spirits of the Ear Inn's past customers. Most often seen is the ghost of a sailor named Mickey, who boarded here in years past and was killed out front. If you visit, try to get a tour of the upstairs of the building: The place is truly creepy and the experience will have your hair standing on end.

Between June 2015 and June 2016, the average American worker saw a 2.5% increase in their pay, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. But professionals in some jobs saw much bigger jumps.

To find which gigs experienced the largest increases over the last year, Glassdoor did some digging and released a new list of the 13 jobs with the biggest pay raises. To do this, Glassdoor identified the jobs where the median base pay has increased the most (by percentage) over the past 12 months.

Here are the jobs. All descriptions are from Glassdoor:

13. Communications manager

Communication managers oversee an organization's internal and external messaging. Their role includes drafting and reviewing written materials — including press releases, bylined articles, white papers, RFPs and marketing collateral — creating print and online advertising, producing corporate videos, preparing speeches and presentations, and managing budgets. To become a communications manager, a bachelor's degree in communications or PR is needed along with several years of relevant experience.

2016 median base pay: $84,000

2015 median base pay: $80,000

Increase from 2015 to 2016: 5%

Seven 5-minute habits of self-made millionaires that could help you get rich

What you do every day matters.

"Daily habits dictate how successful or unsuccessful you will be in life," writes Thomas C. Corley, who spent five years researching the daily habits of 177 self-made millionaires.

They can hold you back from getting rich— or, they can transform you from ordinary to seven-figure status. Here, we've rounded up simple, five-minute habits of self-made millionaires that you can start developing today:

SEE ALSO: 11 things to do in your 20s to become a millionaire by 30

Write down specific goals for your money

If you want to start accumulating wealth, you need to take action. Start by writing down specific goals for your annual income and net worth, self-made millionaire T. Harv Eker writes in "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind."

"Your intention should be to create abundance, not mediocrity," he explains, so while you should be realistic when setting a time frame to attain these goals, don't be afraid to think big and challenge yourself.

"The number one reason most people don't get what they want is that they don't know what they want," he writes. "Rich people are totally clear that they want wealth."

Send thank you cards

"Saying thank you is a reflection of your character," Corley writes. "Don't Facebook them, Tweet them, Instagram them. Send a thank you card."

When do the rich write thank you notes, and when should you? When someone remembers your birthday, refers a client to you, introduces you to an important contact, or does you or a family member a favor.

Automate your savings

"Fear of criticism is the reason we do not seek feedback from others," Corley writes. "But feedback is essential to learning what is working and what isn't working. Feedback helps you understand if you are on the right track. Seeking criticism, good or bad, is a crucial element for learning and growth."

Additionally, it allows you to change course and experiment with a new career or business. "The most successful self-made millionaires piloted new ventures before they dove in with both feet," Corley explains. "Feedback provides you with the information you will need in order to succeed in any venture."

SHOWS TO CATCH UP ON

"Catastrophe"

Short, filthy, and searingly funny, Amazon's Catastrophe charts the course of Sharon and Rob's relationship through unexpected pregnancy in season one, and early parenthood in season two. It has all the humor and charm of a rom-com, and it grounds the conventions of that genre by building its story around two bracingly honest, smart, flawed people. The pleasure lies in watching them laugh together, and in enjoying a relationship that feels like spending time with real people, if those people were very, very funny. 4 hours, 50 minutes.

Available on Amazon Video.

"Documentary Now!"

This IFC darling is a weird, unlikely production by Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Meyers in which every episode is a different send-up of some well-known documentary property. The second season has an episode that mimics The War Room; another episode called "Juan Loves Rice and Chicken" that takes on the Jiro Dreams of Sushi model. But Documentary Now! is not spoofing the originals, precisely. As Sam Adams writes at Slate, the key to the show is how deeply its creators love the originals, and how thoughtfully they gently riff on each style. Even if you're not into documentaries, the silly, well-constructed jokes will work regardless. 5 hours, 15 minutes.

Available on Netflix and DirecTV. Available for purchase on Amazon Video, iTunes, YouTube, and Google Play.

7 behaviors of people who are easy to talk to

$
0

coworkers

Maybe it's because a journalist, but the way I know I'm in a good conversation is that I unconsciously start to reach for my notepad, because everything we're discussing fascinates me so.

On the one hand, I want to take notes on what we're talking about — maybe they're telling me about an awesome vacation they took or maybe I'm telling them about my relationship with my family.

But on the other hand, I want to record those subtle strategies they're using to guide the interaction. How did I wind up gripping my chair in suspense? Or, how did they get me to open up like that?

I imagine I'm not the only one who's had these questions. So I turned to some Quorathreads for insight into the most common behaviors that make someone a pleasure to talk to.

Read on to find out what those excellent conversationalists do — and how you can start emulating them.

SEE ALSO: 10 ways to get better at small talk

1. They learn what you care about — and let you talk about it

Quora user Rajesh Setty says it's important to allow your conversation partner to reveal what interests them.

"You will be tempted to interrupt and share what you care about every now and then," he says. "The trick is to hold off and focus on the other person first. You will get your chance."

In fact, recent research suggests that talking about yourself is inherently pleasurable; it stimulates the same reward centers in the brain that are lit up by sex, cocaine, and good food. So it makes sense that people would feel positively about a conversation in which they held the spotlight.

2. They show their emotions

Max Lukominskyi writes:

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of emotions during the dialogue. While talking, accompany your words with corresponding gesture and feelings. Meanwhile, as a listener show your reaction and let your partner know how you feel about what she says.

Research backs him up: One study found that people who suppress their emotions are often perceived as less likable than those who express their feelings.

3. They find something they have in common with you

Brian Blose recommends that you "find ways to transition conversations to areas of mutual interest."

Blose says he often starts out by asking what his conversation partner does for a living; other times he mentions a new restaurant he visited.

"You might have to try a few topics before you find something you have in common."

Psychological research helps explain why this strategy might work — according to the similarity-attraction effect, we tend to gravitate toward people who are just like us, and especially when we share similar attitudes and values.

"Pokémon Go" was a genuine social phenomenon for about a month earlier this year, but since then, it feels like a ghost town out there. Nobody's putting up lures in the neighborhood anymore and you haven't caught anything good in weeks.

Maybe you're even going to Reddit and complaining about how the game just isn't fun anymore. Who can blame you?

Lucky for you, developer Niantic has given a temporary jolt of life to the massively popular mobile game with a brand-new Halloween event. Here's how it works:

The 15 best changes from 'The Walking Dead' comic to the show

$

actress danai gurira who plays michonne says new antagonist negan is worse than previous villain the governor

Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you haven't seen "The Walking Dead" through season six.

When adapting something from a preexisting source material, the usual rule is: don’t change things. Whether it’s events or characters or relationships, fans usually don’t respond well when someone messes with their favorite stories. Adapting a book or a comic can be a bit of a minefield.

But every now and then, especially when it comes to TV, some changes are not only necessary, but welcome. AMC’s The Walking Dead is one of those rare exceptions where change can be a good thing, especially since one of the show’s foundations is shock factor. By changing up certain factors of the story, the TV show is able to keep the jaw-dropping moments fresh, and in some cases, make certain storylines more palatable or coherent for a new medium.

The show has made a ton of changes, so this list obviously can’t cover everything, but hopefully we’ve included some of your favorite original TV moments. From switching up kills to creating cool new characters, here are the 15 best changes from The Walking Dead comic to the show.

15. Dale and Andrea's Relationship

If you think back to the old days of season 1 and 2, you might recall the charming father/daughter kinship shared between Dale and Andrea. Their relationship revolved around the wise Dale doling out fatherly advice to the much younger Andrea, much like a doting dad. The two opened up to each other about the death of loved ones, and Dale even risked his life at the CDC to convince her not to give up. Dale cared for Andrea like the daughter he never got to have with his own wife.

Now imagine if those two characters started making out. Yeah, not a great image. While the TV show kept it strictly platonic, in the comics, they operate with a whole different dynamic. Yeah, that’s right, Dale and Andrea hook up.

And before you ask, no, they didn’t make Dale older for the show. He’s still in his 60s when he dates her. Try getting that image out of your head next time you rewatch their scenes together. We’re kind of thankful for this small but significant change between the comics and TV show, because we just can’t see anyone being comfortable watching that.

14. More Morgan

In the comics, Morgan takes a bit of a back seat to the other, bigger players. There’s simply not much that sets him apart from the other survivors of the group. Abraham had his bravado and potty mouth, Glenn was the optimist, Hershel was the wise old man, Tyreese was a leader, Michonne wielded a samurai sword, etc. In truth, Morgan never really had anything that set him apart. But when it came time to cast the TV show, the creators chose the ever-commanding screen presence that is Lennie James. It suddenly became clear that Morgan could no longer be just another survivor, which is why beefing up his character made so much sense.

After a brief but incredibly memorable appearance in season 3, we were reintroduced to him during season 5 as a completely transformer character. The writers have gone in a completely new direction this time around, making Morgan a staunch pacifist who refuses to kill, even in the most extreme circumstances. Its a viewpoint that hasn’t been explored before in the show. Even the most peaceful of characters, like Dale and Glenn, have never been so black and white on the subject of death-dealing.

Not only did it give Morgan an added layer of character depth, it also proved to supply a new avenue of story telling. Including a fascinating flashback episode — guest-starring the always wonderful John Carroll Lynch — explained how he came to make this dramatic philosophical U-turn. And as frustrating as his stance may be sometimes, it is ultimately an interesting character arc with a stellar payoff at the end, when he was forced to kill to save Carol’s life. We’ll either see a conflicted and guilty Morgan next season or, as Lennie James has hinted at, a man who has just begun to unleash his inner beast. Either way, the show has made Morgan more than just another face in the apocalypse.

13. Douglas Monroe becomes Deanna Monroe

When our survivors reach the Alexandria Safe Zone in the comics, instead of meeting town matriarch Deanna Monroe, they are greeted by her on-the-page counterpart, Douglas. Instead of the kind, tough loving mother figure and leader we had with Deanna, Douglas Monroe was actually a bit of a creep. He treated his wife Regina, who’s TV counterpart becomes Reg, poorly, and considered their marriage as merely ‘political’. In his mind, this meant he could chase as many women as he likes, often offering them positions close to him in the community and following them around. He even tried to get Andrea to sleep with him despite his marital status.

The change from a lecherous womanizer to a calm and collected female character was a welcome one. Deanna was a more interesting and formidable character (despite her sometimes naive views about the dangers of the apocalypse) and she provided a better match for Rick. Watching these two leaders challenge and learn to understand one another made the story line all that much stronger. Of course, that is until she was eaten by walkers, as nearly everyone inevitably is.

6 attempts at utopian settlements and where they are now

The word "utopia" is made up of two Greek words, together meaning "no place." The word suggests that no place on Earth could possibly be perfectly egalitarian, free of conflict, and sustainable.

That didn't stop people from trying, however. The Puritans believed in creating a utopia while escaping the Protestants in the 1600s. In the 1960s, as hippie subculture was at its apex, people again strove to form utopian settlements.

Today, the tech elite are putting new kinds of utopian projects forward, promising total sustainability, the end of cooking, and other modern communal living concepts that people in previous centuries could only dream of.

Since dreaming of utopia is not a new phenomenon, it's important to look back and learn about the attempts people have already made to build perfect societies.

Here are brief histories of a few utopian settlements, and where they are today — if they're still around.

The Hancock Shaker Village was founded in 1783.

An 18th century utopian settlement that promoted celibacy, pacifism, and self-sustaining homesteading, the Hancock Shaker Village was founded by Joseph Meacham and Lucy Wright. The Shaker sect of Christianity, which still exists, emphasizes gender rights, communal living, and socializing through song and dance. The Shakers got their name through their ceremonial dances, where they'd appear to shake.

The Hancock Shaker Village was the third of 19 built around New England, New York, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

But the Industrial Revolution drove members away, whittling down membership.

The Hancock Shaker Village hit its peak in 1840, when it owned 3,000 acres of land and had over 300 members.

But during the Industrial Revolution, members of the village started moving to cities. By 1900, only 50 members remained. Buildings started to get demolished, and some of the land was sold off.

In the 1960s, a few remaining members of the village decided to preserve it. You can still visit Hancock Shaker Village's remaining 750 acres today, where over a dozen houses are preserved. There's also still an active Shaker community in Maine.

Brook Farm was started in 1841.

Brook Farm was a transcendentalist utopian settlement close to Boston that attracted many intellectuals curious about forming the perfect agrarian society. The community was founded by George Ripley, a transcendentalist and former Unitarian Universalist minister, along with his wife Sophia and a group of 15 other members.

The Ripleys wanted the settlement to uphold classically transcendental values: humane, non-toxic relationships and harmony with the land. The community also valued daily physical labor, calling it an exercise in mental as well as physical well-being. Labor was meant to be distributed in a way that prevented classism.

"Everyone must labor for the community in a reasonable degree, or not taste its system in operation," Elizabeth Peabody, a Brook Farm resident, wrote in 1842.

By working 300 days, a Brook Farm member would receive free tuition at the community school and a year's worth of room and board, according to Mental Floss.

After 19 trips to Disney World, my family has tried a majority of the dining options that "The Happiest Place on Earth" has to offer.

Traveling to Disney World can be overwhelming, so this list should help take away the stress from how to pick from the hundreds of restaurants and food services located throughout the parks and resorts.

It is an affordable counter service option and is almost always my first stop upon arriving at Disney World. Make sure to check out the surprisingly low-calorie and delicious green tea ice cream.

2. La Cantina De San Angel Mexican Pavillion

This quick service restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks Epcot's world showcase lagoon. The tacos with seasoned chicken, homemade corn tortillas, Mexican rice, refried black beans, and salsa are delicious and the churros with caramel dipping sauce are not to be missed

Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh is, without a doubt, one of the best coaches in football.

Before returning the Michigan Wolverines to the top of the college football polls, he led the San Francisco 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championships and one Super Bowl. Before that, he revived a dormant Stanford program.

No matter where he has coached, Harbaugh has been defined by a crazed sense of competitiveness that has often manifested itself in peculiar ways. He is also one of the most entertaining figures in all of sports.

Below we take a look at 27 examples of his insane competitiveness.

Scott Davis contributed to this post.

Harbaugh coaches his kids before Halloween so that they can get the most candy by hustling to each house. Once they have gone to each house, they change into backup costumes and do it again.

Read more: Jim Harbaugh told an incredible story that shows how insanely competitive he is in all areas of life

Like Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein, Harbaugh wears the same outfit (khakis!) every day because it saves him time.

He will do just about anything (that isn’t an NCAA violation) to bring the best talent to Michigan.

We asked real chefs what they ate when they were broke in college

students eating pizza munchies

The INSIDER Summary:

• When chefs were tight on a budget in college, they gravitated towards pantry staples.
• From ramen to no-cook meals, a few seasoned chefs share what they cooked and ate.

Dining out every night and buying only organic produce isn't a realistic option for many college student budgets. Even recent—and not so recent—graduates have a tough time eating well when broke.

I spoke with some accomplished chefs about how they kept their taste buds in tact when cash wasn't exactly flowing. Be prepared, some key staples include ramen, pasta and you guessed it, pizza

Quesadillas

Tortillas were a key staple for Nicole Bassis, Executive Chef at Taste Buds Kitchen in NYC, while in college. When she was studying at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) she would keep these bad boys around, mainly because they pretty much never go stale. It's also possible, and acceptable, to have them for every meal.

Easy Mac

Easy Mac is almost considered a food group once you get to the U. Chef and owner of Arties Steak & Seafood Spiros Chargares used to literally beef up his cheesy goodness with cooked ground meat.

It's an easy way to add in some protein and change the consistency of the mac. Try pimping out your own Easy Mac by combining Chargare's ideas with these tips.

Bacon

Bacon is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about eating on a budget, but 2nd City Executive Chef Jordan Andino knows that adding bacon can upgrade practically any meal. Prep a batch in the oven and add it to any cheap pre-packaged food you can think of.

NFL POWER RANKINGS: Where all 32 teams stand going into Week 8

Tom Brady

Through the first seven weeks of the NFL season, it's now the Patriots' league, and everyone else is just living in it.

Sam Bradford looked terrible on Sunday, and the Vikings are no longer undefeated. The Steelers are struggling without Ben Roethlisberger. The Broncos and the Cowboys are still relying on young quarterbacks. Somewhere in Arizona, the Seahawks and the Cardinals are still missing chip-shot field goals as this is being written.

In all seriousness, the Patriots really do feel a notch above everybody else in the NFL. Rob Gronkowski is rounding into form. LeGarrette Blount can't be stopped. Tom Brady missed the first four games of the regular season and is quickly playing himself into the MVP conversation.

Luckily, the bulk of the NFL season is still in front of us. Though another New England Super Bowl appearance feels likely right now, remember that we're not even in November.

There's plenty of football left.

Here are our power rankings heading into Week 8:

32. Cleveland Browns

Record: 0-7

Week 7 result: Lost to the Bengals, 31-17

Week 7 star: Well, Kevin Hogan threw two interceptions in his pro debut, but he did run for a 28-yard touchdown, so we'll give it to him. Why not?

Week 8 opponent: vs. New York Jets

One thing to know: The Browns have had six players throw at least five passes this season, and we're not even at the halfway mark. If they can't beat the Jets this weekend, their chances of an 0-16 season will begin to look very likely.

31. San Francisco 49ers

Record: 1-6

Week 7 result: Lost to the Buccaneers, 34-17

Week 7 star: Gerald Hodges had an interception for the Niners defense.

Week 8 opponent: Bye week

One thing to know: The Niners led 14-0 after the first quarter on Sunday.

30. Chicago Bears

Record: 1-6

Week 7 result: Lost to Green Bay, 26-10

Week 7 star: There wasn't one!

Week 8 opponent: vs. Minnesota Vikings

One thing to know: Brian Hoyer injured himself last week, and Matt Barkley was terrible off the bench. Luckily (or not), Jay Cutler is healthy again. This team is a mess.
