All the 'Game of Thrones' deaths, ranked from least tragic to most tragic

The Red Wedding

When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. It's violent, vicious, and not for the faint of heart.

Over the past six seasons, a lot of people on "Game of Thrones" have died. It's a game of survival, and you're lucky if you've made it this far.

Some of these characters came back from the dead. We barely knew some of them, and we knew a lot of them so well that we shed a tear or two (or two-hundred) when we watched them die on our TV screens. And some? We couldn't wait for them to die, and when they did, we were cheering.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with some exceptions), we ranked 90 notable deaths (and semi-deaths) from the series — basically, the deaths of characters who had names, had more than a few lines, and/or had some kind of impact on a major plot point or a major character. Hopefully it gives fans closure while they wait longer for the next season to arrive.

Here are 90 "Game of Thrones" deaths ranked from the least sad to the most sad:

Note: The Hound is exempt from this list. He was presumed dead and that was very sad for all of us, but turns out he never actually died. Direwolves are also exempt.

SEE ALSO: Every HBO show ranked from worst to best, according to critics

90. Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay Bolton was Roose Bolton's bastard son who had a penchant for extreme violence against innocent human beings. He was briefly married to Sansa Stark, and tortured Theon Greyjoy for several seasons. He also killed his dad, his stepmom, and his baby brother. And Rickon Stark. And Osha. And a lot of other people.

Time of death:  Season 6, episode 9, "Battle of the Bastards"

Cause of death: Sansa leaves him to be eaten by his own hounds.

Sadness ranking: -25. Ramsay's death is probably the most satisfying one on this whole show. His violence was gratuitous and he had zero redeeming qualities. Nobody loved him, not even his dad.

89. Joffrey Baratheon

Starting with the execution of Ned Stark, Joffrey proved that he was completely out of control and wouldn't listen to anybody. He was a terrible king, and also a terrible person.

Time of death: Season 4, episode 2, "The Lion and the Rose"

Cause of death: Poisoned by Petyr Baelish and Olenna Tyrell at his wedding to Margery Tyrell.

Sadness ranking: -10. The only sad thing about Joffrey's death is that we don't get to hate him anymore. Joffrey was responsible for the untimely deaths of a lot of people who didn't deserve it.

88. Walder Frey

Walder Frey was the Lord of the Crossing at the Twins, and for a brief period, the Lord of Riverrun. He had over 100 descendants, and so many daughters that he didn't even know some of their names. He never had a good reputation in Westeros, and was often called the "Late Walder Frey" after delaying his assistance in Robert's Rebellion until it was already won.

Time of death: Season 6, episode 10, "The Winds of Winter"

Cause of death: Arya Stark slits his throat after feeding him a pie made out of his own sons.

Sadness ranking: -8. He's responsible for the Red Wedding, plus he's really gross. Not sad, not even a little bit.

13 little clues that show a relationship is about to end

Relationships Couples Love

The INSIDER Summary:

  • There are always red flags to watch out for in a relationship.
  • A certified health coach says it's best to call it quits if you're trying to fix the other person or you don't exactly agree about money.
  • Sometimes breaking up can be for the best even if it is tough.

Relationships tend to happen quickly, but they can also end just as soon as they began. At the start, you might experience butterflies and exciting adventures, but certain signs your relationship might end can lead you to back away from these happy, special moments and turn into a darker reality. While a breakup is tough, no matter who ends it, sometimes it's really for the best.

As a certified health coach, I work with clients on deciding when a relationship isn't meant to last, as it might be causing strain and hardship. If you're becoming less happy when you're with your partner, or the relationship is rocking your confidence, it might be time to call it quits. Staying in an unhealthy relationship, long-term, can hurt your health, mentally and physically, as it never feels good to be around negative energy so often in the day. No matter how long you've been dating your S.O., the breakup will still probably hurt, and the time for closure and recovery is definitely based on the individual. If you've taken the giant step to end your relationship, just know it could be the best thing you've ever done. Here are 13 little clues to help you realize that it's time to move on and put the relationship in the past.

1. You Don't Feel Safe Opening Up

"As a coach that specializes in working with women who have suffered from disordered eating, poor body image and low self esteem, I have seen one too many women hide their past problems with food, their body and themselves. When you share your struggles and difficulties you not only strengthen your bond through your vulnerability but you also set the precedence for an open and nonjudgmental relationship for the future," says life and wellness coach Dana Peters over email with Bustle.

2. Family Drama

While you can't always find the perfect family to bond with, some families are especially difficult, and if the drama is causing tension in your relationship with your partner, it might be best to end things. "While I'd advise anyone to execute their best judgment, it's never the best idea to keep secrets about your family. Ultimately the truth comes out and your partner may question why you felt you couldn't be straight with them about any of your family issues," adds Peters.

3. Not Being On The Same Page About Money

According to Michelle Sinkovits Ferguson, Divorce Attorney & Partner at Greenberg & Sinkovits, LLC, over email with Bustle, not being on the same page about money and finances can cause arguments in relationships and jeopardize the success of partnership in the future.

15 money lies you should stop telling yourself by age 30

Leo DiCaprio Wolf of Wall Street

You'll always be allowed a few mulligans, but by the time you've hit the big 3-0, you should have sorted out most of the reckless money habits you may have fallen into in your 20s.

While most of us know what it takes to succeed, we're all guilty of perpetuating lies about the state of our finances. You don't want those lies holding you back in the next stage of your life, and into your peak earning years.

So free yourself from these 15 money lies by the time you're 30.

Mandi Woodruff and Kathleen Elkins contributed to an earlier version of this post.

DON'T MISS: 9 important money concepts to understand before you're 30

SEE ALSO: 7 money goals every 30-something should set

1. So long as my job pays well, it's OK if I hate it.

The job market may not be what it used to be, but by age 30 no one should be toiling away at a job that leaves them stressed out and dissatisfied with life. Sometimes you just have to say no, and have the confidence to quit.

We were inspired by a young woman who wrote about turning her back on a lucrative job on Wall Street when years of 14-hour work days made her overweight, burnt out, and miserable.

"I'm a few months into my new job [as an asset manager for a nonprofit] and it's made my life richer. I'm making an effort to breathe, smile, eat healthier, and have positive thoughts about my future," she wrote.

"I took a pay cut of about 30% to change positions, but I don't think that I should be applauded for making the choice to accept less pay – I don't view it as a sacrifice."

2. If I turn a blind eye, my finances will figure themselves out.

One of the worst things to do in your early 20s is to ignore financial red flags when they arise.

Check your bank account, no matter how fearful you are of how low the number might be; don't leave your credit report untouched; and take advantage of work benefits, such as the 401(k) match.

If you're broke, you might as well know it and own it. It's the only way you'll ever truly be able to do something about it.

3. I should get married because it's the 'next step.'

Tying the knot by 30 seems to be the trend these days, but there are few people who can actually afford the high cost of the average American wedding.

Why kick off your lifetime union with a massive pile of debt that will only cause stress and inevitable arguments down the line? If you're truly in love, chances are The One will still be around by the time you're both financially fit to face those bills together.

"Impulsiveness in general is typical when you're younger, whether it's impulsive decisions to buy the car, go on the vacation, or even marry the wrong person," certified financial planner Michael Egan tells us. "That's a big one actually. You need to make sure your spouse, if you're going to be sharing your life with them, has a similar stance on money to you."

Start by having these important money conversations with your partner before even getting engaged.

The 8 dumbest last-minute tax mistakes people make

$

soccer fall mistake

Thanks to calendar quirks, taxpayers have four extra days to file in 2017.

That doesn’t mean you should wait till the end to get started. Rushing through most anything lends itself to silly, last-minute errors, and taxes are no exception.

"It's like homework," says financial planner Keith Klein of Turning Pointe Wealth Management in Phoenix, Arizona. "You can only do so much, so long, and then you get distracted."

If you're scrambling to get your taxes together at the last minute, it's easy to slip up and enter a wrong number, which can lead to even more paperwork in the form of a tax amendment or paying additional fees to the IRS.

"Often times people in a hurry are already under pressure and stress, so they aren't thinking clearly outside the moment that it's due," Brian Ashcraft, director of compliance at Liberty Tax in Virginia Beach, told Business Insider.

Below, Klein and Ashcraft share some of the dumb, last-minute filing mistakes you'll want to avoid.

SEE ALSO: The No. 1 way people mess up their taxes, according to an accountant

DON'T MISS: 12 terrible things that could happen if you don't do your taxes

1. Mixing up your federal and state taxes

Tax-preparation software and e-filing can catch a lot of errors, but you're the only one who can keep your envelopes straight. "Even if you're using apps to track your spending and software to file your taxes, you can still send your check to the wrong place," Klein reminds us.

2. Making basic arithmetic errors

Third-grade math has come back to haunt you at last. "I see people adding and subtracting wrong, putting decimals in the wrong places, or making negative numbers positive and vice versa," recalls Klein. "By simply neglecting a minus sign, you could turn a loss into a gain and owe taxes on that money."

Ashcraft says it's also common for people to transpose, or even fat finger, numbers.

"Going quickly at the last minute can change a tax return drastically," he says. "Like, if someone added an extra digit into their withholdings and thought they were getting a huge refund back."

The IRS says that most basic calculation errors are caught while processing, so you probably won't need to file an amendment if you added two and two up to five. However, if the IRS catches your mistake, it will issue a correction notice to let you know — and a request for more money if your errors resulted in your paying less than you owe.

3. Forgetting to file extensions

April 15 (well, April 18 in 2017) is not only the filing deadline for your taxes, it's the payment deadline, too. "Even if you're going to file an extension, you have to submit it with a payment," says Klein. "But some people plan on filing extensions … and just plain forget to do it."

The IRS won't forget about your taxes. It will charge you a monthly fee of 5% of what you owe for each month you wait to file, up to 25% of your taxes. If you haven't filed by 60 days after the deadline, you'll owe a fee of either $135 or 100% of your taxes, whichever is lower.

Letters spell the word

It's been more than a year since Google blew up its entire corporate structure to form a new parent company: Alphabet.

The shake-up was intended to help all of its businesses operate more efficiently, a move CEO Larry Page was working on for years as a secret project he called "Javelin."

This move also allowed Page to step back from day-to-day operations to "focus on the bigger picture."

Now, Alphabet is a massive corporation — ranking in size behind Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft— that encompasses everything from internet-beaming hot air balloons to self-driving cars to Google Cloud.

Here's how all of Alphabet's companies fit under the umbrella.

Alphabet is divided into two main units: Google and Other Bets. Other Bets is best known for its "moonshot" R&D unit, X, but it also houses several other companies. Let's start with the smaller companies under Other Bets.

Nest builds smart thermostats and other home devices, like outdoor security cameras. The company was acquired by what is now Alphabet in 2014, and in June of last year, CEO Tony Fadell stepped down but remains within Alphabet. He was replaced by Marwan Fawaz.

The deadly chemical attack is the latest to hit Syria in 6 years of brutal civil war — here's what happened

syria_chemical_attack_map

One of the most devastating chemical attacks to take place during the six-year civil war in Syria has left dozens of people — including many children — dead or critically injured in the rebel-held province of Idlib.

At least 70 people died in what activists and Western leaders have described as an airstrike conducted by the Syrian military in the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun on Tuesday.

While the United Nations and Western leaders have quickly condemned the attack, the war that has left more than 450,000 Syrians dead and 12 million permanently displaced shows no sign of ending soon. Less than 24 hours after the chemical attack, more airstrikes reportedly started hitting the same part of town.

Here's what happened and how the conflict escalated to this point.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights first said at least 58 people, among them 11 children, passed out from inhaling the toxic chemicals released into the air. Many others died later after the initial exposure.

17 of the most ridiculous celebrity purchases of all time

Paris Hilton

It's easy to understand why a celebrity would want to splurge a little here and there.

A big mansion and a couple of Ferraris? Fine. A trenta-sized drink at Starbucks and extra guacamole on your burrito? Sure, why not.

Sometimes though, celebrity purchases can get outlandish.

From a $200,000 ticket to space to a Mongolian dinosaur skull, these are the most absurd celebrity purchases of all time.

Kim Basinger purchased the township of Braselton, Georgia.

In 1989, Georgia-native and actress Basinger as well as other investors bought 1,751 acres of the 2,000-acre town for $20 million. She wanted to turn the town's farmland into a tourist attraction and film studio.

In 1995, the town was auctioned off as part of Basinger's bankruptcy.

Magic Johnson bought 30 Burger King franchises.

Like many athletes, Magic Johnson turned his post-sports career into a business. While many thread their athletic image with health foods, Johnson decided to go into Burger King franchising in 2004

He also built 105 Starbucks franchises (and later sold them), but he's still hanging on to those Burger Kings.

Katy Perry bought Russell Brand a $200,000 ticket to space.

For his 35th birthday in 2010, Perry bought her then-fiance Brand a ticket for Richard Branson's spaceship company Virgin Galactic.

It's not really clear what happened to the ticket since the couple divorced, but it wouldn't be surprising if Perry still wants to send Brand to space.

A German startup is making serious moves to make futuristic, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircrafts a reality in a commercial setting.

VTOLs are exactly what they sound like — aircrafts that can take off vertically without needing a runway. The German startup, e-volo, has been working on its VTOL since 2011. But several other contenders have entered the space as of late, like Uber, Airbus, and Zee.Aero, a startup funded by Google co-founder Larry Page.

E-Volo has finalized its multicopter, called the Volocopter 2X, and will begin trialing the aircraft for a flying taxi service in 2018. Here's what you need to know:

The electric aircraft can fit two and comes with 18 rotors, allowing it to fly through the air extremely quietly. It can both take off and land vertically using a simple joystick.

The Volocopter 2X can recharge in 40 minutes using a fast charger.

And it can reach a top speed of 62 mph for a limited amount of time.

Your time can be even more valuable than your money.

Instead of — or in addition to — donating to a charity helping Syrian refugees, volunteer with them.

Contact any of the charities listed on the previous slide (plus find more from USAID here) and ask them how you can give your time.

You can also join Doctors Without Borders and go to Syria or a European country where refugees have fled to.

If you live in several European countries or Canada, you can also list your home as a place where Syrian refugees can stay (sort of like a free Airbnb).

Educate yourself and others

Learn more about the crisis from official sources, and educate your friends and family about what you discover. The more you know about the crisis, the more you can help.

13 things you're doing that make people dislike you immediately

$

thumbs down

Everyone's got a story about how they thought a certain friend was mean the first time they met, but realized later that he or she is actually the nicest person ever.

Generally, you've only got a few seconds to make someone want to spend more time with you. Everything matters — from your last name to the smell of your sweat (gross, we know).

Below, Business Insider rounded up various scientific findings on the traits and behaviors that make people dislike you, both online and in person.

SEE ALSO: 16 psychological tricks to make people like you immediately

1. Sharing too many photos on Facebook

If you're the kind of person who shares snapshots of your honeymoon, cousin's graduation, and dog dressed in a Halloween costume all in the same day, you might want to stop.

A 2013 study found that posting too many photos on Facebook can hurt your real-life relationships.

"This is because people, other than very close friends and relatives, don't seem to relate well to those who constantly share photos of themselves," lead study author David Houghton, of Birmingham Business School, said in a release.

Specifically, friends don't like it when you've got too many photos of family, and relatives don't like it when you've got too many photos of friends.

Ben Marder, of the University of Edinburgh, also worked on the study, and warned: "Be cautious when sharing and think how it will be perceived by all the others who may see it. Although sharing is a great way to better relationships, it can also damage them."

2. Having too many, or too few, Facebook friends

In a 2008 study, Michigan State University researchers asked college students to look at fictional Facebook profiles and decide how much they liked the profiles' owners.

Results showed that the "sweet spot" for likability was about 300 friends. Likability ratings were lowest when a profile owner had only about 100 friends, and almost as low when they had more than 300 friends.

As for why 300-plus friends could be a turn-off, the study authors write, "Individuals with too many friends may appear to be focusing too much on Facebook, friending out of desperation rather than popularity."

On the other hand, the college students doing the evaluation each had about 300 Facebook friends themselves. So the researchers acknowledge that in a population where the most common number of Facebook friends is 1,000, the sweet spot for likability could be 1,000.

Keep in mind, though, that a 2014 survey found that the average number of Facebook friends among adult users was 338.

Interestingly, the study also suggested that participants weren't consciously aware that they liked people less when they had too many or too few Facebook friends.

3. Disclosing something extremely personal early on in a relationship

In general, people like each other more after they've traded confidences. Self-disclosure is one of the best ways to make friends as an adult.

But psychologists say that disclosing something too intimate— say, that your sister is having an extramarital affair — while you're still getting to know someone can make you seem insecure and decrease your likability.

The key is to get just the right amount of personal. As a 2013 study led by Susan Sprecher at Illinois State University suggests, simply sharing details about your hobbies and your favorite childhood memories can make you seem warmer and more likable.

The wacky 52-year-long evolution of dating shows on TV

The INSIDER Summary:

  • Dating reality shows started back in 1965 when "The Dating Game" premiered on ABC.
  • Since then, the genre has skyrocketed into success.
  • What started as televised matchmaking has since turned into drama-filled debauchery.

If you think that "The Bachelor" started the reality show dating game, you couldn't be more wrong.

The genre kicked things off over half a century ago with ABC's "The Dating Game." Since it hit the airwaves in 1965, several producers and networks have followed suit, and innocent matchmaking shows have evolved into wildly successful dating programs with an emphasis on sex and drama.

Check out the roller coaster evolution of dating shows below.

SEE ALSO: How religious movies are thriving more than ever before under Trump

"The Dating Game" revolutionized reality TV by playing matchmaker for young men and woman when it started in 1965.

Each episode helped one man or woman find a date with eligible contestants. The catch? The potential partners were hidden out of sight behind a board while the eligible bachelor or bachelorette made decisions based solely on their answers and voices.

By the time the show ended in 1999 after four separate runs, the game had become iconic, and was parodied on comedy shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

The next big dating show was "Blind Date," UK's big hit that started in 1985 and lasted until 2003.

It started out the same as "The Dating Game," but then sent the couples on epic first dates where they would finally meet one another. Some people ended up at ice cream factories, but others met in the Maldives or Anguilla.

Now, it's coming back this year after 14 years off the air

2001's "Temptation Island" started to push the boundaries of what it meant to date on TV.

Fox decided to put several happy couples in the same house as a group of lively singles. The idea was to test the couples' commitment to each other when there was so much temptation — get it? — to cheat in the house.

It was controversial before the first episode even aired, which helped drive up ratings in its first season. In the following years, several shows would take notes from this dramatic dating game.

Apple just released a new app, and it's a mix between Snapchat and iMovie (AAPL)

Clips iPhone app

Apple's newest app is called Clips, and it's a mix between Snapchat and iMovie.

After teasing Clips a couple of weeks ago, Apple released the app on Thursday as a free download in the App Store.

Like Snapchat or Instagram, Clips lets you share photos or videos up to 30 minutes in length with special filters and effects.

But Clips isn't its own social network like Snapchat or Instagram. Aside from sending photos and videos to your friends via iMessage, you can only save your photos and videos to your camera roll or send them to other apps. Unless you're using Clips to post to Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat, there's no Clips social network to plug into, aside from your own contacts in iMessage.

Here's how Clip works:

Clips looks similar to Apple's main camera app. You can record short video clips or take photos before adding special effects.

You can choose from a list of filters and add text, emojis, and other annotations to add over your photos and videos.

Apple's "Live Titles" feature will create captions for you based on what is said aloud during a video recording. You can then edit the text before sharing your clip to another social network.

A woman who quit her job as an investment banker now earns just as much traveling the world on her own

kristin addis balloon

In March 2012, Kristin Addis quit her job as an investment banker in Southern California.

"It was hard for me when our paid time off was only 14 days per year," she tells Business Insider.

"We'd go to the office puking our guts out because we didn't want to use our vacation time being sick. I felt back then like even if I wanted to, in that 14 days, I wasn't really allowed to take it all at once. I felt like 'What is this money worth if I don't have the opportunity to spend it on what I want?

"I thought there had to be more to life than that."

So she set out to find it.

Less than a year later, Addis bought a one-way ticket to Bangkok, planning to travel overland through Southeast Asia. Since then, the now 30-year-old has largely stayed on the move, documenting her journey through her blog, Be My Travel Muse, and sharing the expertise she's gathered in her book, "Conquering Mountains: The Guide to Solo Female Travel," produced with Nomadic Matt's Matt Kepnes.

Below, she talks about the new life she built traveling the world: what it looks like, the reality of working on the road, and how she affords it.

Addis, who had lived in Taiwan when she was 21 to study Mandarin, started her trip in Southeast Asia because she'd read a traveler could get by on $1,000 a month, a sharp drop from the $3,000-$4,000 a month price of her California life.

"I had been saving for years," Addis remembers. "It was between putting money into buying a condo or traveling." She managed to accumulate around $20,000 in cash, plus about $60,000 in retirement funds, which she says she won't touch until it's time to retire.

"I've never had debt other than school debt," Addis says. "I won't spend money I don't have, and I don't want to dip into funds meant for later. If I couldn't make being a travel influencer work, I would have gotten a job before I touched my retirement savings."

fargo ewan mcgregor

When the third season of "Fargo"returns to FX April 19, Ewan McGregor will star as not one, but two characters on the series.

You may not recognize the "Star Wars" actor when the show airs. McGregor put on some weight and shaved his head to play brothers who couldn't look more different.

He's not the only actor to transform for a role. Plenty of actors have undergone extreme workouts and diets to pack on the pounds and muscle for their roles as villains, boxers, and CIA operatives.

Keep reading to see 15 actors who have gained weight for movie and TV roles.

Hilary Swank gained 19 pounds of muscle for "Million Dollar Baby."

Hilary Swank consumed 210 grams of protein every day for 90 days while training for "Million Dollar Baby."

"My training was two and a half hours of boxing and approximately an hour and a half to two hours lifting weights every day, six days a week," Swank told Movieweb. "The producers asked me to gain 10 pounds of muscle. I gained 19 pounds of muscle. I started at 110 and went to 129. I would drink my egg whites because I could never eat 8 to 12 egg whites in a sitting. It's just the worst thing ever."

Ryan Reynolds gained 25 pounds of muscle for "Blade Trinity" and kept it on for "Green Lantern."

Reynolds' trainer, Bobby Storm, told WebMD the star worked out 90 minutes every day for six to seven months to bulk up to 200 pounds.

"For a romantic comedy, he needs to shrink down a bit," said Storm. "For Blade and Green Lantern, he was 200 pounds and 8% body fat. For rom-coms [romantic comedies], he’s about 180 and 11% body fat."

Reynolds told Men's Fitness he gained 25 pounds of muscle for "Blade Trinity" after adhering to a 3,200-calorie daily diet and doing six-day-a-week workouts for three months.

Tom Hardy gained nearly 30 pounds to play Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises."

Some people didn't believe Hardy bulked up enough to play villain Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises." Before the film's release, some fans were slightly displeased. In the comics and animated series, Bane's muscles are exaggerated. He's able to lift 1,500 lbs

Hardy later told CineMovie he got up to 190 lbs and defended his weight gain to fans:

I’m at 190[lbs]. Bat-fans want me to be over 220lbs. 400lbs. I’m like dude! Batman is like Superman, Spider-Man — he belongs to so many people. So many people love him. He belongs to them, and when you step into that kind of character, you are going to fail. And be judged. I’m human, and I do read things. I read the comments, and I cry. I can’t cry for everybody. I just give them a job, and be the best that I can be. Just trust me. I trust Nolan.
