12 small lifestyle habits you can adopt to save more money

0

woman smiling thinking couple

If you're constantly wondering where your money is going, consider how much your daily habits are costing you.

Do you drop $10 to $15 on fast-casual lunches every day? Are you quick to buy something you don't actually need? Do you make purchases to keep up with the same level of luxury your friends enjoy?

These seemingly small habits, and many more, could be keeping you from saving hundreds, even thousands, of dollars a year.

We turned to the Quora threads, "What habit has saved you the largest amount of money?" and "What are some lifestyle changes that save money?" to round up the best — and easiest — ways people save money every day.

Learn the difference between saving a dollar and saving a percentage.

Quora user Jaap Weel writes:

"Remember that saving 5% on a $10,000 item is not at all like saving 5% on a $10 item. But in order to process decision problems at different scales, the brain tends to normalize things so the two cases appear similar.

"Ever since I studied behavioral economics, I started spending less time worrying about saving 20 cents on spaghetti, but I spent a lot of time thinking about what car to buy and making sure I got a good deal on it. You can buy a lot of spaghetti for a $4k discount on a car, and yet I see people who spend lots of time on grocery coupon clipping but never stop to consider whether they could move to a cheaper apartment, drive a cheaper car, etc."

Do-it-yourself.

Quora user Betsy Megas writes:

"I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills and the satisfaction of accomplishing tasks. Among the things I've gotten pretty good at: basic plumbing, interior painting, sewing, bike maintenance, baking, cooking. I'm still working on gardening, and I think I'd like to learn and improve basic construction skills (I'd like to build a deck or patio and repair some fences) and maybe learn about building PCs. Here again, I see it as both entertainment and expense avoidance. Occasionally also exercise."

Practice delayed gratification.

Quora user Angela Recruiter writes:

"When you are shopping and your heart leaps at the sight of xyz product, and you think it's love at first sight...WAIT.  Save it, bookmark it.  Come back to it hours later, then a day later, then days later and gauge, each time, how or whether your level of "pumpity-pump" interests stays the same, declines, etc. Never buy on impulse. Sleep on it. Ask yourself: Do you think it'll make you happy a month from its purchase? A few months? A year? Years?"

The 10 best places in the world to retire in 2017

Playa del Carmen Beach Mexico

There’s a new best country in the world to retire, according to the experts at International Living (IL), an authority on global retirement and relocation opportunities. In its Annual Global Retirement Index, Mexico — one of the most popular countries among U.S. expats — has edged out last year’s No. 1, Panama.

But truth be told, Mexico (which was ranked No. 3 in 2016), Panama and Ecuador are within a hair of each other in the new International Living rankings.

“There’s just a tenth of a percentage point difference in their total rankings,” said Dan Prescher, an International Living senior editor who lives with is wife Suzan Haskins in Cotacachi, Ecuador.

Retiring Abroad Is Growing in Popularity

If you’re intrigued because you’re considering joining the expat community, you’re in good company.

According to a recent AP story by Maria Zamudio, the number of Americans retiring outside the U.S. grew 17 percent between 2010 and 2015. Currently, about 400,000 American retirees live abroad. And, Zamudio noted, that number is “expected to increase over the next 10 years as more baby boomers retire.”

Where the International Living Top 10 Countries Are

Six of IL’s Top 10 places in this year’s ranking are nearby, in Latin America — either in North America (No. 1 Mexico), Central America (No. 2 Panama, No. 4 Costa Rica and No. 8 Nicaragua) or South America (No. 3 Ecuador and No. 5 Colombia). Just three are in Europe (No. 7 Spain, No. 9 Portugal and a new addition to the winners’ list, No. 10 Malta); just one is in Asia (No. 6 Malaysia). Thailand, No. 7 in last year’s rankings, fell out of the Top 10. (See the slideshow below for specifics about each of the 10 countries atop International Living’s 2017 list.)

Incidentally, communities in Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Nicaragua and Portugal are also in the just-released Top 10 Best Places to Live Overseas in 2017 from Live and Invest Overseas.

Most of International Living Top 10 countries this year “have been heavyweight contenders in our Index for some time,” said Eoin Bassett, IL’s editorial director, who is based in No. 21 Ireland. This year, IL turned its sights on 24 countries, adding Bolivia to its list (No. 18, by the way).

Where the Buys Are

“The big news for U.S. citizens in the past year regarding retiring around the world was the strength of the dollar. It has made living in some countries, especially Latin America, incredibly cost effective,” said Prescher. “The exchange rate was outrageous in our favor. The Mexican peso today is 20 to 1 against the U.S. dollar, which has made Mexico an incredible deal.”

Expats in Mexico told IL that they live well there on as little as $1,200 a month. “My rent is $575 a month for a two-bedroom apartment with a great modern bathroom and nice kitchen,” San Francisco native turned Puerto Vallarta resident Jack Bramy told International Living.

How International Living Ranks Countries for Retirement

To compile its 2017 ranking, International Living’s editors, correspondents, contributors and contacts around the world crunched data and personal insights for 10 categories (from Cost of Living to Visas & Residence to Fitting In to Climate).

Cost of living is a major retirement concern for Americans, according to a recent Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies survey of U.S. workers. Respondents told Transamerica that an affordable cost of living was their most important criteria for where to live in retirement.

So what else made these 10 countries so great this year?

Mexico was best among International Living’s Top 10 for Entertainment & Amenities, but also had impressive scores in every other category.

I asked Prescher why Mexico scored so well for entertainment and amenities. Turns out, he and his wife were visiting the picturesque town of Ajijic, in western Mexico, at the time. “Oh man, there’s nothing like good quality Mexican food and music,” he said. “We’re just 50 minutes from Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico and a world-class city like Miami. If you can’t find it or do it in Guadalajara, it’s not worth finding or doing.”

What Made the Winners Win

Runner-up Panama received IL’s best scores for Benefits & Discounts and Visas & Residence. “Panama changed its visa situation a little and it’s now incredibly easy to get a residency visa,” said Prescher.

The country is also well known for its Pensionado program of discounts for retirees there who receive at least $1,000 a month in income. The deals, which Prescher says are “some of the best in Central America and South America,” include 50 percent off entertainment; 30 percent off bus, boat and train fares; 25 percent off airline tickets and 20 percent off doctor’s bills. Prescher also calls health care in Panama City “world-class.”

Ecuador had top scores for Buying and Renting (tied with Nicaragua) and for Climate. “Ecuador has always been one of the most affordable places for real estate in Central America and the strong dollar did nothing but improve that,” said Prescher. And don’t get the ex-Nebraskan started on the unbeatable weather in his now-home country; living near the Equator, he pays nothing for heating or air conditioning.

Costa Rica led the Top 10 for Healthy Lifestyle (tied with Nicaragua); Malaysia for both Fitting In (“it’s a nexus for world cultures,” said Prescher) and Health Care (it’s a popular medical tourism destination); Spain for Infrastructure (great mass transit and Internet) and Nicaragua for Buying & Renting, Cost of Living and Healthy Lifestyle.

Bassett calls Nicaragua “the lowest-cost retirement destination in Central America,” adding that “every year it offers more and more by way of amenities and opportunities.”

Along with Spain and Malta, Bassett noted, Portugal “is an even more appealing destination heading into 2017 with the strength of the dollar against the Euro.”

Advice for Retiring Abroad

Even the International Living folks don’t think you should move to a foreign country for retirement just because it scores well in their (or anyone else’s) ranking, though. Before relocating, said Prescher, “profile yourself ruthlessly about what you really want in a place. Find out what you can and can’t live without.” Then, be certain any locale you’re considering is a match.

And before making a permanent move to a particular place, Prescher added, “try it out for as long as you can. See what it’s like to be there not just on vacation, but long enough to set up Internet access and to open a bank account.”

I’d add one giant caveat about the International Living rankings: The political and economic climate in the U.S. in 2017 could change considerably, which could, in turn, affect the lure of some countries as retirement havens.

As Prescher said presciently: “The presidential situation has changed completely, so everyone will be watching. What we will do with our relationship with Mexico and European countries is anybody’s guess.”

The following are the Top 10 countries to retire abroad in 2017, according to International Living (IL), an authority on global retirement and relocation opportunities. The ranking comes from IL’s Annual Global Retirement Index, sizing up 24 countries in 10 categories from Cost of Living to Climate.

DON'T MISS: How much money you need to save each day to become a millionaire by age 65

1. Mexico

Mexico knocked off last year’s No. 1 Panama because you can live well there for under $1,200 a month, it’s close to the United States, the locals are friendly, English is widely spoken in popular retiree spots, the expat community is large (more than 1 million Americans live there), health care is affordable and high quality and the culture and lifestyle are fantastic. And after becoming a legal resident, retirees over 60 can grab special discounts on airlines, restaurants, groceries and medical care.

Although IL’s experts say there are parts of Mexico they can’t recommend due to crime, the country overall offers “arguably the easiest transition to expat life around.”

Best of all, says IL, “your dollars now buy nearly 50 percent more pesos than they did just a few short years ago.”

Expat Jack Bramy told IL’s editors: “The cost of living in Mexico allows me to live a fun life on my Social Security check.”

2. Panama

International Living editors describe their second-best place in the world to retire as “modern, comfortable and tolerant.” Panama’s also extremely convenient for Americans. Better still, says IL, Panamanians usually treat foreigners like VIPs.

Says IL Panama Editor Jessica Ramesch: “With top-notch cellular and internet connections, Panama offers a user-friendly and familiar environment you may not have expected to find in the warm, sunny tropics.”

3. Ecuador

Ecuador has been at or near the top of International Living’s annual best places to retire index for years. A few reasons: excellent weather (you can choose almost any climate you like by moving up or down in altitude); affordable health care and real estate and an assortment of retiree benefits.

“Fitting in once you arrive is remarkably easy,” said IL Senior Editor Dan Prescher, who has lived in Ecuador with his wife for years.

Things 3 app

For those who like to stay organized, there are plenty of free apps out there that will get the job done.

But while those apps — including Apple's own native apps, like Calendar, Notes, and Reminders — are adequate, shelling out for a third-party app is often worth it.

Enter Things 3, an $8 app that's essentially the ultimate task manager. The app is simple to use, beautifully designed, and will help you finally get — and stay — organized.

The app launched in May and it's now the No. 1 paid productivity app in the App Store.

Here's how it works.

SEE ALSO: A fidget spinner app is now the top free app in the App Store

Things 3 is the third iteration of the popular task management app. It normally costs $9.99 for iPhone, but it's 20% off until May 25. I got it in the App Store for $7.99.

This is what your main screen will look like. It's a lot like an email inbox, but a lot cleaner and simpler.

Your inbox is the place to put everything on your mind. You don't have to organize when you're going to do them, or add a reminder — this is just a helpful spot to put things so you don't forget about them. When you're ready to get organized, you can select individual tasks and move them to different folders, or schedule a time to complete them.

The 6 biggest mistakes I made when I moved in with my partner

0
0

couple sitting table love

Living with anyone is no easy feat. I always thought having roommates would be like a big slumber party all of the time and for this only child, that sounded like a dream come true.

And though I've been lucky to have great roommates, living with them has involved just as much paperwork and housework as it has wine nights with viewings of "The Bachelorette."

Choosing to live with my boyfriend was similar: I thought every night would be like those we spent in each others' college apartments, eating dollar slices and making out. Don't get me wrong: We still love to order takeout, but living with your partner can be challenging and we definitely slipped up quite a few times along the way.

If I could do it all again, there'd be a few things I'd do differently:

MISTAKE #1: I didn't let him have a say in the home decor.

My boyfriend moved into the apartment I already shared with my best friend and while all three of us were (and are still) close, she and I had our own girl cave going on — complete with sassy signs about wine and lots of fairy lights.

When my partner and I moved into an apartment with another friend of ours, he meekly asked  if maybe we could leave some of our glittery signs behind with our friend who could appreciate them more.

I felt so awful that I didn't take his feelings into account when it came to decorating our living space. Now, our shared room and apartment are filled with art and mementos that mean something to each of us, and my lone sassy wine plaque has been relegated to the kitchen where it belongs.

MISTAKE #2: We didn't take stock of what we both had.

Does anyone in the history of the world need five bottle openers? No, but we sure had them.

Cramming all of our crap in a U-haul was hard enough, but after lugging dozens of boxes up the stairs to our new apartment, we were frustrated to find that we had multiples of a ton of stuff.

By making a simple list of what we both had, we could have saved our relatives the headache of taking back our duplicate coffeemakers, irons, blenders, and more. Plus, we could have saved room for all of the other cool stuff we bought along the way.

MISTAKE #3: We didn't come up with a good system for splitting up money.

When you're dating without living together, it's pretty easy to split expenses: You can go Dutch on dinner, Venmo your partner for your movie ticket, and pay them back as you go along.

Cohabitating throws some bigger and more frequent expenses your way. While we used to rely on an "I'll get you back" policy, it's become harder and harder because of all the new, big bills we need to factor in.

Not keeping track of who paid what lead to a lot of miscommunication and frustration at first. While we tried to employ lots of different apps, we found that being strict about how we kept track of our finances lead to a lot of headaches, too.

Our advice? Keep an electronic record (of any kind) to show who owes what, and get the bill settled as soon as possible.

And don't forget to treat each other every once in a while, too.

What it's like to use one of the world's first 8K monitors

0

8K display dell

Dell recently released the world's first consumer-targeted 8K monitor, and we've been wondering what it's like.

4K TVs and monitors already offer incredible sharpness and detail. We've only recently begun to appreciate them, now that prices have become reasonably affordable and the amount of 4K content has gradually increased.

So what more could 8K possibly offer?

YouTubers Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips and Marques Brownlee both had some time to play around with Dell's 8K monitor to share their reactions. Here's what they had to say:

SEE ALSO: If you want games to look better than ever before, this super-wide curved screen will do the trick

The 8K resolution on Dell's UP3218K monitor means it has four times as many pixels as a 4K monitor, which already has four times as many pixels as a 1080p one.

That means an 8K monitor has more than 33 million pixels.

Most monitors need just one cable to connect to a computer. To work best, Dell's 8K model needs two.

You can use one single DisplayPort (DP) cable, but you'll get a less-than-optimal experience.

Dell's 8K monitor can refresh 8K images at 60Hz, which means it will redraw each of its 33.2 million pixels 60 times a second. That allows it to display ultra-smooth videos and games. But transfering all that information requires some serious bandwidth between the computer and the monitor.

A single DP cable just doesn't have enough capacity to pass along that much data. So if you use just one DP cable, the monitor will slow down its refresh rate to 30Hz. That's still perfectly smooth for most people, but if you're going to spend $5,000 on a monitor, you'll probably want to take advantage of all its capabilities.

To get 8K resolution at 60Hz, you'll need to a graphics card in your computer that has two DP ports. Oh, and Dell's 8K monitor won't run on just any old DP cables. It requires the latest DisplayPort 1.4 cable to work properly.

Dell tunes its 8K monitors before shipping them to ensure they have the best color accuracy. Each monitor comes with its own individualized calibration report to show you how it's tuned.

These 7 planes are trying to end Airbus and Boeing's dominance in the skies (BA, AIR)

Airbus A320 neo

The single-aisle airliner market is one of the most lucrative and hotly contested segments in the aviation business. But for the past 15 years, that white-hot competition has almost exclusively been between two companies — Airbus and Boeing.

In recent years, companies from around the world have launched aircraft aimed at breaking the Airbus-Boeing duopoly.

On Monday, China's COMAC and the Russia's United Aircraft Corporation announced a joint venture called the China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation or CRAIC. According to the two companies, the new joint venture will be tasked with developing a new long-range wide-body airliner.

CRAIC is the product of a joint venture agreement signed by COMAC and UAC in June of 2016 with the blessing of Chinese president Xi Jinping and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

"We will cooperate sincerely with UAC, unite as one, and strive to make the program a model of Sino-Russian cooperation," COMAC chairman Jin Zhuanglong said in a statement. "We will follow the latest international mainstream airworthiness standards, build more competitive long-range widebody aircraft, and strive to provide customers with better service and make new contributions to the global aviation market."

The new JV will be will be based in Shanghai near COMAC's existing facilities and will also produce its future aircraft in the Chinese city.

In addition to the new Sin0-Russia wide-body, there is a slew of state-of-the-art airplanes from around the world designed to challenge Airbus' and Boeing's market dominance.

But before we get to their challengers, let's take a look at the next generation offerings from Airbus and Boeing.

Airbus A320neo family

The Airbus A320neo family of airplanes are updated versions of the company's original A320-family with new-generation engines and optimized aerodynamics.

The line up of medium-range airliners includes a trio of models — the 160-seat A319neo, the 189-seat A320neo, and the 240-seat A321neo. All three variants can be equipped with modern CFM LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G turbofan engines.

Thus far, Airbus has more than 5,000 orders for the various versions of the A320neo. The first A320neos entered service in early 2016.

Airbus A350XWB

The Airbus A350 XWB or Extra Wide Body is a family of next-generation long-haul widebody airliners. More than 70% of the aircraft is built using carbon composites, titanium, and advanced aluminum alloys. As a result, Airbus claims the A350 delivers 25% lower operating costs, fuel burn, and C02 emissions.

For increased passengers comfort, the cabin of the aircraft is pressurized to 6,000 ft. of altitude.

The A350 can be had in three different versions — the 280-seat Dash 800, the 325-seat Dash 900, and the 366-seat Dash 1000. All versions of the A350 are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB turbofan engines.  The A350 has a maximum range of more than 11,000 miles.

Through April 2017, Airbus has 831 orders for the A350. Eighty-one of the planes are already in service with 12 operators.

Airbus A330neo

The A330neo or New Engine Option is an upgraded version of the existing Airbus A330 with next fuel-efficient engines, a new wing design, and avionics. The A330neo can be had with 257 seats or 287 seats.

All versions of the A330neo will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 turbofan engines. Through the end of April, Airbus has 210 orders for the A330neo.

8 deleted scenes that didn't make it into the live-action 'Beauty and the Beast'

0

lefou beauty and the beast

Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" will be coming to Blu-ray and DVD next month and it will be packed with a bunch of deleted scenes that were cut from the final film.

According to a press release from Disney, the movie will include eight deleted scenes in addition to an alternate version of one of the film's songs.

Most of the deleted scenes revolve around Gaston and LeFou — the two best characters in the new film — and include a few iconic moments from the animated movie. Keep reading to see the full list of deleted scenes that were cut from the film.

1. "Gaston Courts Belle"

Description of the scene:"Pleased with himself after settling a disturbance with the townspeople, a triumphant Gaston attempts to woo Belle."

This would have been a scene of Gaston speaking with Belle after her laundry gets knocked over. Gaston gets the townspeople off of Belle's back after they start bullying her. The scene leads right into the one where he appears at her home to ask for her hand in marriage.

You can watch the scene here.

2. "Bread and Jam for Agathe"

Description:"On her morning market rounds, Belle stops by to see Agathe, the village beggar woman."

Another scene that would have occurred early in the film, this would have been another opportunity to see more of the Enchantress in her other form. Belle would have dropped off some goods to Agathe in a momentary break from her song at the film's start.

Maybe that's why Agathe is keen to help Belle's father later in the film when he's left for dead in the forest.

You can watch the scene here.

3. "Storming the Ice Gates"

Description:"The angry mob of villagers, led by Gaston, overwhelms the castle's defenses."

This is an extended scene of Gaston and the village mob marching to the castle with more lyrics to the mob song. The scene may have played a bit silly because the Beast's gate is knocked down with little force.

Watch the scene here.

This Montauk estate is on the market for $48 million — 7,600% more than what its owners paid for it

montauk house 6

A Montauk estate built on a plot of land that was originally bought for $620,000 in 1992 is now on the market for a whopping $48 million.

Owned by framing business owner Eli Wilner and his wife, Barbara, the estate encompasses more than 36 acres of private reserve on the waterfront next to where Andy Warhol once lived. It's in a particularly remote part of Montauk, and, Wilner said, their initial purchase didn't even come with a permit to build on the empty, hilly land.

But after their petition for permits was approved, the couple spent millions on constructing the home and fixing up the landscaping. They now enjoy a 400-foot private beach, which borders a 3,000-foot beach that rarely gets visitors.

"We were amazingly lucky. We found it by chance," Wilner told Business Insider. "I enjoyed the whole process."

The couple is selling the home now because they are moving to Florida to be closer to family. It was previously on the market for $35 million in 2008, then $50 million in 2010. According to property records, the price was bumped up further to $55 million in 2016 before being brought to market at its current price by Brown Harris Stevens

If the home ends up selling at $48 million, its value would have appreciated by about 7,600% over what the owners originally paid for the land.

The bizarre 'Flintstones House' in a wealthy San Francisco suburb has finally found a buyer

Flintstone house

A unique house situated in the affluent town of Hillsborough, California, has finally found a buyer.

Known by Bay Area locals as the "Flintstones House" for its kooky attributes, the house was originally listed for $4.2 million in 2015. After two price chops, the listing site finally says that the house has a "sale pending." It's unclear what the final sale price was, though it was most recently listed for $3.19 million.

Indeed, many neighbors and locals call the home an eyesore, especially after it was painted orange and purple, according to Tech Insider.

Take a look around the home that has divided a community. Alain Pinel Realtors had the listing.

Even from far away, it's easy to see that the Flintstones House isn't a normal property.

It's made from concrete that's been painted orange and purple, though it was first finished in an off-white color when it was built in 1976.

The odd shape of the house was created by applying shotcrete to both a steel rebar structure and a series of mesh frames held up by inflated balloons typically used for aeronautical research.

The 13 biggest questions we have after watching the new 'Game of Thrones' season 7 trailer

Daenerys Tagaryen outside Dragonstone Game of Thrones season seven first trailer

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Game of Thrones" season seven, including speculation about future events.

The first full-length "Game of Thrones" season seven trailer is here and while it did reveal several important details about what's in store, we were also left with a lot of major questions.

Let's start with the notable absences. First up — Brienne of Tarth and Podrick.

In season six, Brienne and Podrick were sent to Riverrun in order to (hopefully) bring the Blackfish back north to help defeat the Boltons. Instead, they arrived to find the castle surrounded by Lannister and Frey forces.

Brienne and Pod managed to sneak away from the siege in a boat, and we last saw them drifting upriver as Jaime watched sadly.

So where are they? We were hoping for a glimpse of them back in Winterfell and at Sansa's side, but HBO is keeping their cards close with this trailer. Perhaps they're still in the Riverlands somewhere, or caught up in other trouble.

Another major absence is the Night King (or any White Walkers and wights, for that matter).

Since virtually every season seven promo has prominently featured the Night King, we were expecting to see him (or at least some of his White Walker henchman) in the trailer.

But there was not a single ice-creature to be found.

Where is the Night King? Will he cross the Wall this season? Will he catch up with Bran before he and Meera get to safety?

Bran and Meera were also nowhere to be seen, and the season seven image HBO released of them made it look like they're still beyond the Wall.

Season six ended with both Bran and Meera still beyond the Wall, but close enough to see the gigantic structure. Bran touched a weirwood tree and was transported to a vision of Jon Snow's birth (and his mother Lyanna Stark's death).

We're anxious to see if Bran and Meera will safely make it to Castle Black and maybe even beyond to Winterfell for a good ol' fashioned Stark reunion — even though that could mean trouble for the Wall.

This is how the 'Dirty Dancing' remake stars compare to the original cast

dirty dancing new and old castThe INSIDER Summary

  • ABC has a remake of the iconic 1987 film "Dirty Dancing" premiering on May 24.
  • Here's how the remake cast compares to the beloved original one.

Even after all these years, no one can or ever will put Baby in the corner! ABC’s remake of "Dirty Dancing" has caused quite the stir since its inception. In fact, the casting choices for the TV adaptation are not only interesting, but they are also quite unique in their own way.

So how does this fresh cast compare with the beloved, original one? Well, they certainly have some big shoes to fill, but there are several heavy-hitters in the new cast. Click through to find out who is taking on what iconic role in the "Dirty Dancing" remake. You won’t regret it.

1. Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman

Abigail Breslin portrays the role of sweet and salty, Baby, which was originally played by Jennifer Grey. Breslin is best known for her Oscar-nominated role in "Little Miss Sunshine" and for her work on Ryan Murphy’s campy TV series, "Scream Queens."

2. Johnny Castle

In the TV adaptation, Colt Prattes will take over all of Johnny Castle’s lifting duties. This is clearly Prattes' big break. His previous work includes starring in Pink’s music video for “Try” and a minor appearance on the show "Wiener & Wiener." Patrick Swayze portrayed the iconic bad boy in the 1987 classic, so Prattes will really have to prove himself and make the role his own in ABC's TV adaptation of "Dirty Dancing."

3. Jake Houseman

"Law & Order" actor Jerry Orbach orignally played Baby’s overprotective father, Jake Houseman. Sadly, Orbach passed in 2004. The torch has been passed onto Bruce Greenwood who is generally known for playing U.S. presidents in movies like "Thirteen Days" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." He has also starred on a plethora of TV shows, including "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,""Mad Men," and "St. Elsewhere."

bride bouquet weddingThe INSIDER Summary:

Now that you’re engaged, the countdown to the big day has officially begun. And while it might seem a little early, it’s probably the right time to start thinking about your wedding beauty and fitness routines—especially since we all know it can take a while to see results!

Here are ten things you should get started on, stat so you can look and feel your best when it’s time to say “I do”:

1. Grow out your hair.

If you’re hoping to have long, luscious locks on your wedding day it’s important to start growing out your hair ASAP. To keep it healthy, you’ll need a few trims throughout the process, which can set you back a few inches along the way.

2. Whiten your teeth.

There are many at-home whiteners that will do the job as well as a professional, but like all good things, whitening takes time. Allow yourself up to 2 months to achieve the perfect smile, and avoid any tooth-sensitivity close to the ceremony. You can also consult with a professional now, who can help you map out a game plan.

3. Experiment with self-tanners.

If you’re going to go for the glow, try a few self-tanning options well ahead of your big day. Some may look too orange, or others may not pack enough of a punch. Get your self-tanning recipe down pat so you feel confident at the main event. And avoid a wedding beauty fail by not doing anything right before the big day that could rub off on your white dress!

Advertisers begin dropping Sean Hannity's show amid the controversy over Seth Rich conspiracies

Sean Hannity

Fox News host Sean Hannity has begun losing advertisers amid heightened controversy surrounding his decision to draw attention to conspiracy theories about the death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

In recent weeks, Hannity has repeatedly pushed the claim that Rich was not the victim of a botched robbery, as authorities suspect, but rather that he was killed for providing Wikileaks with internal DNC emails.

There is no evidence suggesting this theory is true.

Hannity first raised questions about Rich's murder in August 2016, speculating about the possibility that Rich was a WikiLeaks source. Hannity has repeatedlycalled attention to the conspiracy theory over the past week as well.

Rich's family has repeatedly asked the cable TV host to stop peddling the rumor of a WikiLeaks connection.

On Tuesday, Hannity said that he would not discuss the Seth Rich story at this time "out of respect" for the family, but on Wednesday, he tweeted that he was "working harder than ever to get to the truth the family wants and deserves."

Here are the companies that have announced they will stop airing ads during Hannity's show:

On Wednesday, Cars.com said in a statement to BuzzFeed News that it would no longer advertise on Hannity's show.

"Cars.com's media buy strategies are designed to reach as many consumers as possible across a wide spectrum of media channels," said the statement, according to BuzzFeed News. "The fact that we advertise on a particular program doesn't mean that we agree of disagree, or support or oppose, the content. We don't have the ability to influence content at the time we make our advertising purchase. In this case, we've been watching closely and have recently made the decision to pull our advertising from Hannity."

A few hours after Cars.com pulled its ads, exercise company Peloton announced it was doing the same.

"We directed our media agency to stop advertising on Sean Hannity's show," the company tweeted on Wednesday. "This will take a few days to take effect." The tweet was posted in response to Twitter users who slammed Peloton for advertising on Hannity's show.

E-commerce mattress company also followed suit, according to an email a reader forwarded to ThinkProgress. The reader asked the company if they would reconsider their ad buys, and a company representative said Leesa Sleep would no longer air ads during Hannity's show.

The company behind the butter and coffee craze plans to open a café in NYC — Here's what it's like

Bulletproof sip

Coffee with butter isn't a typical morning beverage. But it's become a craze among biohackers and those looking to add extra energy to their day.

Championed by Dave Asprey, author of "The Bulletproof Diet," the aptly named "Bulletproof coffee" (BPC) is a mix of specially treated coffee, butter from grass-fed cows, and "brain octane" oil, which is similar to coconut oil.

You've never seen these ingredients on a Starbucks menu. But they're staples at the Bulletproof café in Santa Monica, California — and more cafés could be springing up around the country soon.

On Wednesday, Asprey announced that his company, Bulletproof, had raised an additional $19 million from lead investors CAVU Venture Partners.

With the new money, the company said it plans to fuel its retail expansion, including opening up a store in New York City. Last year, I stopped by Bulletproof's café in Santa Monica to see if a coffee and butter concoction could keep me fueled for my drive back to San Francisco. Here's what it was like:

SEE ALSO: These 13 startups have raised millions — but no one knows what they do

"The goal is not to be the next Starbucks," says founder Dave Asprey. Yet the company has now taken in over $28 million in venture funding and started opening coffee stores to bring biohacking to the masses. Biohacking is a DIY-movement in which people experiment with various supplements or devices that they believe lead to increased productivity, mental acuity and other benefits. For Bulletproof, this is the first location in downtown Santa Monica.

The sign outside is just one indicator of the differences between your typical coffee shop and Bulletproof. Here I'm told to "Hack every meal."

Bulletproof's messaging continues before you set foot in the store. From the door decals, you can see that this café is gluten-free, doesn't use GMOs, and won't add sugar.
