Halloween is right around the corner, which means it's time to start planning your costume.

Although the options may seem endless, there are a few things you should probably avoid — take it from these celebrities.

From being culturally insensitive to downright uncreative, these are the worst celebrity Halloween costumes of all time.

Julianne Hough received a lot of backlash when she donned blackface to portray "Crazy Eyes" from TV show "Orange is the New Black."

"It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way," Hough wrote later, according to the Huffington Post.

Isla Fisher allegedly intervened when she saw Hough's outfit, though Fisher's rep denies this, according to Us Weekly.

Let's not forget the time Prince Harry thought it was a good idea to dress as a Nazi.

He later apologized.

Or when Chris Brown went as a terrorist.

The Obamas may be moving uptown.

Page Six reported Monday that the Obama family had been considering buying a $10 million condo on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The Obamas have reportedly been seen entering and exiting a building on Gracie Square. Property records show that a nine-room duplex at that building went into contract on September 26, which sparked the purchase speculation.

The building itself is 15 floors and was built in 1930. The listing calls it "one of the foremost elegant and coveted buildings in New York."

It has an indoor squash or basketball court for residents as well as lobby staff and a "live-in resident manager." One of the most important features: a private drive-through for easy drop-off — a feature that could be essential for someone under Secret Service protection.

A spokesperson for former President Obama did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment.

Earlier this year, the Obama family reportedly purchased the Washington, DC mansion they had been renting since leaving the White House. The purchase price was $8.1 million. They also own a home in Hyde Park in Chicago and were rumored to be looking at vacation homes in Martha's Vineyard, though a spokesperson for the family has said that those rumors were not true.

Take a look around the luxurious duplex apartment, which was listed by Brown Harris Stevens until it went into contract last week.

Ikea is known for its flat-pack kitchen tables, islands, and cabinets.

Now the home furnishings retailer is experimenting with products that allow people to harvest food at home.

Space10, Ikea's innovation lab, has designed a prototype of a mini-farm that can grow greens and herbs indoors.

Called Lokal, it uses a hydroponic farming system — allowing crops to grow on trays under LEDs in a climate-controlled box. Space10 debuted the device in September at the London Design Festival in Shoreditch.

Check it out below.

12 warning signs that you need to change your diet

0

eating saladThe INSIDER Summary:

  • There are more indicators of an unhealthy diet than weight gain.
  • Your diet affects almost every aspect of your body.
  • What you're eating could influence your productivity, memory, and even skin clarity.
  • Here are 12 signs you need to change your diet.

Weight gain isn’t the only indicator of an unhealthy diet.

Your diet has a much bigger influence on your body than you may think. Obviously, what you eat affects your waistline, but it also makes or breaks almost every aspect of your body as well. What you decide to add to your diet has an impact on everything: your productivity, memory, even your skin clarity. Here are a few signs that indicate some major problems in your diet, and fix these diet don'ts by following these 15 easy ways for you to reset your diet.

You're gassy all the time

Constant bloat is a major indicator of a bad diet. If you notice that you’re constantly bloated and gassy after drinking milk or eating cheese, you may not realize that you’re lactose intolerant. Many people have a mild intolerance to dairy and don’t even realize it, so make sure you’re reading the signs your body is sending you. If you happen to be lactose intolerant, then check out these 22 expert tip swaps for eating less dairy.

You're constipated

Having some trouble on the toilet? Constipation and other irregular bowel movements are a big indicator of something being wrong in your diet. If you’re having constipation issues, you probably don’t have enough fiber in your diet. Fiber regulates your digestive system and makes everything run smoothly, so it’s important to keep have a balanced diet with tons of fiber. Foods like beans, oats, and whole grains are great sources of fiber.

You're always hungry

You keep telling yourself that you’re ready to go on a diet, but by the end of the day you crack and eat a whole bag of chips and a pint of ice cream. Although your willpower does have something to do with this, your diet may also be the root of the problem. “Binging is your body’s way of responding to not getting the nutrients that you need—it’s a biochemical response and signal from your brain that you’re not giving it what it needs,” Cassie Bjork, R.D., told Eat This Not That!

The folks behind the biggest game of 2017 say their game was copied — here's what's going on

0
0

playerunknown's battlegrounds parachuting

When you've made made nearly half a billion dollars in six months, you can throw some weight around.

That helps explain why developer Bluehole, Inc., the South Korean game company behind the breakout hit video game "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" ("PUBG"), issued a bizarre press release on September 22 accusing another prominent game development company of copying their game.

"We are concerned that 'Fortnite' may be replicating the experience for which 'PUBG' is known," Chang Han Kim, Bluehole vice president and executive producer, said in a press release.

Kim's claiming that Epic Games' "Fortnite" is copying "PUBG"— a wild claim unto itself, made even wilder by the fact that Bluehole has an ongoing business relationship with Epic Games. The very technology powering "PUBG" is made by Epic Games, which puts the two companies in a very weird place. But Kim wasn't done:

"The 'PUBG' community has and continues to provide evidence of the many similarities as we contemplate further action," he wrote.

So, what in the world is going on? There's a lot to unpack.

SEE ALSO: Forget 'Call of Duty' — the hottest game of 2017 is an insane 100-player battle royale

First, what is "PUBG"?

You're jammed in a crappy plane with 100 other people, flying above an abandoned ex-Soviet island. You can jump whenever you want, knowing that as you plummet to the ground, 99 other people are plotting your imminent death. Of course, you're plotting theirs as well, just as soon as you can get your hands on a weapon.

Thankfully, though the island is uninhabited aside from you and the enemy players, its abandoned buildings — houses, hospitals, gas stations, etc. — are packed with P9s, AKs, and plenty of body armor.

As you scramble to put together a small arsenal and supplies for survival, you're also contending with the other 99 people doing the same thing. Sometimes those folks want to fight. Sometimes they're unarmed and just as terrified of you as you are of them.

Every interaction with another player in "PUBG" is a gamble, which is why it's so excellent.

"PUBG" is a breakout hit — the hottest game of 2017 by far.

The game isn't even officially out yet — it's in so-called "Early Access," which means it's a work-in-progress that you can buy and play right now — but it's already sold over 13 million copies. At $30, Bluehole has made nearly $400 million on "Battlegrounds" in just over six months.

Crazier still, it's only available on PC currently; an Xbox One version is in the works, expected later this year, with other game consoles expected to get the game later on.

To be more clear: Bluehole has sold over 13 million copies of a game that isn't finished with development, that's only available on a single platform. That's far from normal in the world of video games, even for blockbuster franchises like "Call of Duty" and "Grand Theft Auto."

So, what is "Fortnite"?

"Fortnite" is a third-person shooter that's focused on survival gameplay. You, or you and a group of friends, take on hordes of enemies from the tentative safety of a fort you've crafted. It's available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac.

There's a cartoony art style to "Fortnite," which tonally fits in alongside the game's goofy dialog; there's a playful tone about everything in "Fortnite," which is starkly different from the dreary, dire tone of "PUBG." Moreover, the core of "Fortnite" is very different from "PUBG"— it's essentially a "tower defense" game.

In "Fortnite," like other tower-defense games, you're defending an immobile thing from waves of enemies. You have a period of time before the attack begins, when you're able to set up defenses (turrets, traps, walls, etc.). Once you trigger the battle, you must defend whatever that aforementioned thing is from being attacked. If you survive those waves, you've succeeded.

This isn't the stuff that Bluehole takes issue with.

THEN AND NOW: Here's what the 'Mean Girls' cast is up to 13 years later

Mean Girls

October 3rd is a very special day for "Mean Girls" fans.

In honor of the moment Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, what day it was on October 3, fans of the 2004 movie have taken the opportunity to unofficially dub the date "Mean Girls Day."

It's the perfect day to rewatch the hilarious comedy and quote the most memorable lines.

Here's what the cast has been up to in the 13 years since the movie was released:

Lindsay Lohan was already an established star before playing new girl Cady Heron.

Lohan's first film role was as a child actress in "The Parent Trap." Before "Mean Girls," she was in the Disney Channel movies "Life-Size" and "Get a Clue" and continued in other Disney hits "Freaky Friday" and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen."

Her career has since had some ups and downs, but her most recent role is on the forthcoming British comedy series "Sick Note."

The same year "Mean Girls" came out, Lohan released a debut album. Some run-ins with the law, including charges of driving under the influence and cocaine possession, as well as some stints in rehab slowed her career.

Rachel McAdams rose to fame as mean girl Regina George.

She graduated with a theater degree from Canada's York University in 2001. Her Hollywood film debut was in "The Hot Chick," where she starred alongside Rob Schneider and Anna Faris.

How to talk to kids about violence and terrorism, according to a psychologist

0
0

Parents would like to do everything possible to protect our kids. But we live in a world where 9/11 and ISIS are part of everyday life. So how do we explain terrorist acts and other violence to our children?

Let's work our way through the age groups, from pacifiers and pull-ups to acne and angst. Whether your children are nursing or shaving, your primary goal is to help them feel safe. Here's how:

SEE ALSO: 9 things you can do to raise the most successful kids

Avoid letting young children see disturbing videos.

As is developmentally appropriate, the line between fact and fantasy is fuzzy for young kids. In order to prevent needless fears and nightmares, keep the news channel turned off when they're around. Likewise, put off high-emotion conversations or inflammatory radio about recent events until they're out of earshot. You may think they're not even paying attention, but little kids are like sponges: They absorb everything. Get your news about ISIS at work or after the little ones have gone to bed.

If you do walk in to find your preschooler staring at disturbing footage on TV, stay calm.

Simply say "Hey, let's give the TV a rest," turn it off, and then gently redirect: "Tell me about this drawing you were working so hard on." Don't lunge for the remote, cover their eyes, or snap "You shouldn't be watching that." If you make it dramatic, it will make more of an impression and create anxiety or guilt.

If your young child re-enacts a tragedy, help him play it out until everyone is safe.

For example, if your young son builds a LEGO city and then crushes it, saying it was "bombed," say, "Time to call in the fix-it crew!" Join him in rebuilding it and then ask how it can be made safe. Perhaps he'll build a wall, make a couch-cushion shield, or have a toy dinosaur guard it. Especially for younger children, accuracy matters less than feeling safe. Most importantly, drive home the sense of safety non-verbally by offering hugs and cuddles for no reason at all.

This ex-Pepsi CEO's 17th century Italian castle just underwent a €10 million renovation to become a state-of-the-art cookery school — take a look inside

Castello di Ugento

If there's one thing Italians know how to do, it's cook — and now they can do it in one of the most stunning settings imaginable.

A majestic 17th century castle in the heart of southern Puglia, Italy has undergone a €10 million (£8.9 million/$11.7 million) transformation to become an art culinary institute.

It's called the Puglia Culinary Centre, and it operates in partnership with The Culinary Institute of America.

Along with the state-of-the-art cooking school, the 4,500 square metre castle — which dates back to the Messapians in 8th century BC — now also houses a luxury boutique hotel, a contemporary art exhibition, an event space, and a museum.

In 1643 Castello di Ugento, named after the historical town of Ugento in which it is situated, was bought by the d’Amore family, and has been under their ownership ever since. The property is now owned by Massimo Fasanella d'Amore di Ruffano, an ex-CEO at Pepsi.

In the 1600s Nicola and Francesco d'Amore transformed what was then a military fort — sat at the top of a hill to protect the land and village below it — into a lavish palace.

It boasted elegant salons on the first floor and ceilings "soaring into the star-shaped vaults typical of Salentine architecture, decorated with a glorious mythological cycle of frescoes." But over the past 100 years the castle has slowly decayed.

Archaeologists, specialist restorers, and art historians were appointed in 2013 to "breathe new life into the dormant Castello" as well as improve its comfort, security, and technology all while respecting its ancient history.

Scroll down for a look at the incredible restoration of the castle that's home to over 1,000 years of history.

This is The Castello di Ugento, a property with over 1,000 years of history that has recently undergone a €10 million renovation to become a state-of-the-art cooking school, museum, and boutique hotel.

Here, you can see the castle before its transformation. It's thought that it was built — and then rebuilt — during Roman times on Messapian remains.

Its circular Angevin Tower dates back to the Normans, who controlled the region from 1059.

Everything we expect Google to announce at its upcoming hardware event (GOOG, GOOGL)

pixel 2 xl leak

Google is expected on to announce a slew of new hardware products at an event on Wednesday in San Francisco.

While we don't know for sure what's on Google's agenda, an abundant number of recent leaks point to two new Pixel phones, a new Google Home device, and more. Business Insider will be covering the event, which begins at noon ET, live.

But for now, here's a look at everything we expect Google to announce:

SEE ALSO: Everything we know about Google's upcoming smartphone, the Pixel 2

Google Home Mini

A year ago, Google unveiled a smart speaker called Google Home to compete with Amazon's Echo device. Now the company is set to release a smaller, cheaper version of the Google Home to compete with Amazon's Echo Dot.

Droid Life published the first photos of what it said was the Google Home Mini in mid-September, showing a device that would come in at least three colors — pink, silver, and dark gray.

On Tuesday, Walmart posted a listing to preorder the Mini, seemingly accidentally.

The new smart speaker is expected to be powered by Google Assistant, the company's smart agent. It will cost $49, be about the same size as a hockey puck, and start shipping October 19, according to the Walmart listing.

Google Pixel 2

Google is expected to announce two new phones at its event: the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL.

The Pixel 2 reportedly will be similar in size and design to the original Pixel, which Google released last year. The 64 GB model will cost $649, and the 128 GB version will go for $749, according to a report from Droid Life. The new device will reportedly come in three colors: white, black, and a grayish blue.

According to an earlier leak from Android Authority, the Pixel 2 will have:

• A full high-definition 1080p display.
• A Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
• Dual speakers.
• An "active edge" that will allow users to launch certain apps by simply squeezing the device.
• Water resistance rated at the IP67 standard, matching that of the iPhone 8.

However, like many other recent flagship phones, including the new iPhones, the new device will lack a standard headphone jack.

Google Pixel 2 XL

According to recent leaks, the Pixel 2 XL will have a noticeably different design than the Pixel 2.

The Pixel 2 XL will have a 5.99-inch display with a 1440p (2K) resolution, which is significantly larger and of a much higher resolution than its sibling. And unlike that on the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL's screen will take up almost the entire front of the phone. The bezels around the display will be slimmer, and the corners of the screen rounded — though it doesn't look like the display will be curved, unlike those on Samsung phones.

Other than its display, the Pixel 2 XL will have the same specs as the Pixel 2, according to earlier leaks.

Initial reports indicated the Pixel 2 XL would come in just two color combinations: all black, and a combination of black and white. But an image of the Pixel 2 XL found in the Walmart listing showed a device that appeared to be entirely white.

How Americans really feel about gun control

0
0

las vegas shooting

Like clockwork, Sunday's deadly shooting in Las Vegas has drawn out a fiery debate on gun control, just as many other mass shootings have done before it.

On Sunday night, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of 22,000 concert-goers from his suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel.

He killed at least 59 people before apparently turning one of his guns on himself, in what has since been named the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.

The enormity of Paddock's weapons arsenal, and the speed at which he was able to mow down dozens of festival attendees within minutes, has prompted questions over what types and how many firearms people should be allowed to purchase.

When police burst into Paddock's hotel room, they found a whopping 23 guns, including semiautomatic rifles. They later discovered another 19 firearms and several thousand rounds of ammunition at his home in Mesquite, Nevada.

It's still unclear exactly what types of weapons Paddock used, but video and audio of the shooting suggests his rifles had rapid-fire capabilities — possibly from "bump stock" devices that can be purchased legally and used to modify firearms into fully automatic weapons.

While many lawmakers and gun control advocates have demanded swift action on gun control measures, their opponents have fired back that such calls politicize the tragedy, and that gun legislation will not improve public safety.

As for the American public, their views are more nuanced. Here's what they think:

SEE ALSO: Americans are more likely to die from gun violence than many leading causes of death combined

DON'T MISS: The Las Vegas gunman used a legal device allowing him to fire 400 rounds a minute

Spring 2017 surveys show 89% of Americans — including gun-owners and non-gun owners — tend to agree on one thing: the mentally ill should be prevented from purchasing guns.

Sources: Pew Research Center, NPR

The so-called "gun show loophole," through which people can purchase firearms without background checks through private sales and gun shows, is similarly non-controversial. Surveys show 84% of US adults — including 77% of gun owners and 87% of non-gun owners — believe the loophole should be closed.

Source: Pew Research Center

Another 83% of American adults believe people on the FBI's no-fly list should be blocked from buying guns. But civil liberties groups have decried previous attempts to push such legislation through Congress, arguing the no-fly list is arbitrary, frequently inaccurate, and discriminatory against Muslim-Americans.

'Once Upon a Time' is going to be very different next season — here's everything we know

0
0

dania ramirez andrew j west

Get ready for a giant shakeup when "Once Upon a Time" returns to ABC.

Not only will the show return on a new night — Fridays — but much of the beloved cast fans know will be gone. After the season six finale, six of the longtime cast members left the show paving the way for plenty of new faces.

How will the new season look without Emma Swan, Snow White, Prince Charming, and more? Keep reading to see what to expect when the fairy-tale show returns to TV October 6.

Many familiar faces will be gone from the show.

In May, Jennifer Morrison told fans on Facebook she would be leaving the show after six seasons of playing Emma Swan. After the season six finale, five more actors followed suit when their contracts ended.

The other characters who will be gone next season are Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), Belle (Emilie de Raven), and Zelena (Rebecca Mader).

But it won't be the last time we see them all.

Morrison already told fans she'll be back for at least one episode. Emma Swan just found her happy ending at the end of season six, so her complete absence while her husband Hook remains on the show would be a bit weird.

Other than Morrison, Jared Gilmore will return briefly as a young Henry when the season begins. Belle (Emilie de Ravin) will reunite with her love interest Rumple for the season's fourth episode and Regina's sister Zelena (Rebecca Mader) will be a recurring character.

In May, coshowrunner Edward Kitsis said they hope to see every one back at some point.

Overall, season seven will be a giant reset button for the show.

The season six finale gave a glimpse at a very different show with a flash forward in time.

Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are careful to say it's not a reboot.

"I hesitate to use the word 'reboot.' We’re more thinking about it as a hybrid of a lot of things," Kitsis told The Hollywood Reporter. "We’re paying homage to the original premise, but there are certain characters who are returning and some who are not."

Dungey, however, explained it as just that at the ABC upfront in May.

The 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history

Sunday's horrific attack in Las Vegas bears the unfortunate distinction of being the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

The shooting left 59 people dead and nearly 530 injured after a gunman opened fire from his Mandalay Bay hotel room on a crowd of people below attending a country music festival.

The attack took place just 14 months after a shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, which at the time became a grim new benchmark for American mass shootings.

Here are the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history:

DON'T MISS: Why the Las Vegas shooting isn't being called terrorism

Las Vegas, October 1, 2017 — 59 dead, 527 wounded

Late Sunday evening, gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest festival from his 32nd-floor room at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Casino.

The rampage lasted more than 15 minutes as panicked concertgoers tried to take cover, unaware of where the fire was coming from.

A police SWAT unit broke into Paddock's room and found the suspect dead by suicide.

Orlando, June 12, 2016 — 49 dead, 58 wounded

Before Sunday, the deadliest mass shooting in US history was the 2016 shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Gunman Omar Mateen killed nearly 50 people at the nightclub before he was killed by Orlando police. As the club was hosting a "Latin Night," many of the victims were Latino.

During the shooting, Mateen called Orlando police and swore allegiance to the ISIS, although authorities found no evidence of communication between the terrorist group and the attacker. Still, the shooting drew swift condemnation from American Muslims. It remains the deadliest act of terror in the US since September 11.

Virginia Tech University, April 16, 2007 — 32 dead, 17 wounded

The 2007 mass shooting on Virginia Tech University's campus remains the deadliest school shooting in US history.

Gunman Seung-Hui Cho, a senior at the school, killed more than 30 students and instructors in two separate attacks about two hours apart before committing suicide.

Redditors took turns sharing their best intellectual jokes, and we've gathered our favorites here.

From chemistry to art to music, these are the jokes you can pull out at your next dinner party — if you want to hear a bemused groan from the crowd.

Time to test your knowledge, though don't worry, there's an explanation if you don't get it.

Here are 17 of the best jokes for smart people:

A photon is going through airport security. The TSA agent asks if he has any luggage. The photon says, "No, I'm traveling light."

It's funny because:"Traveling light" is a turn of phrase used to indicate traveling without much (or any) luggage. In science, a photon is a particle of light (almost always moving).

It's on this list because: Air travel!

Pretentious? Moi?

It's funny because: Only a pretentious person whose daily life doesn't require French would actually say "moi" and mean it.

It's in this list because: Clocking in at two words, it's the shortest joke in the English language.

A logician's wife is having a baby. The doctor immediately hands the newborn to the dad. The wife says, "Is it a boy or a girl?" The logician says, "Yes."

It's funny because: Processing that question through Boolean logic, "yes" is technically correct. How would you answer if the question were "Is it a boy AND a girl?"

It's on this list because: Logicians don't get enough love.

The 10 most popular McDonald's menu items of all time

mcdonald's woman with mcnuggetsThe INSIDER Summary:

  • It's safe to say that McDonald's is one of the most popular chains in the world.
  • From the classic Big Mac to the McGriddles Breakfast Sandwich, everyone has a favorite menu item.
  • Here are the most popular McDonald's menu items ever.

Oh, Mickey D's. Your incredibly delicious and amazingly priced menu items fuel French fry lovers across the world. If you aren't a lover of the almighty golden arches, then at least you can respect the success of the company. McDonald's sells more than 75 burgers every second, and has 62 million people visit their stores each day (
that's greater than the entire population of Italy). Based on business sources, we compiled a list of McDonald's most popular and successful menu items, and No. 1 is no surprise.

10. McGriddles Breakfast Sandwich

This breakfast sandwich, which combines the sweet of pancakes and the savory of a sausage, egg and cheese, was made in order to combine a classic American breakfast into a handy, drive-through-ready meal. This breakfast item was so successful that in its first 12 months of sale, it accounted for 40 percent of McDonald's sale-growth in stores.

9. Double Cheeseburger

Although this item is no longer on the dollar menu (it was replaced by the McDouble), this item remains close to the price of $1 and is well-worth the buck. This seemingly simple idea is a sales slam dunk as its simplicity and cheap price are a crowd favorite. My guy friend frequents this menu item by ordering FOUR doubles and stacking them atop each other... Pretty convinced he's responsible for most of Mickey D's sales with this one.

8. Premium Salads

HAHA. A salad on McDonald's most popular items of ALL TIME, you must be kidding. However, salads of days past, like the Bacon Ranch and the Southwest Salad, were definitely delicious and the real reason as to why this item made the top 10 lies directly in the name. McDonal's premium salads came at an equally premium price, which was more than double the cost of a Big Mac (at around $4.20). So obviously, more money was made from those health nuts dragged to Mickey D's (likely unwillingly).

7 easy steps to shopping with confidence on eBay

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you’ll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

eBay shopping guideWe live in an age where you can make purchases at the click of button without ever stepping foot inside of a store, and eBay is the perfect place to do just that.

With an immense marketplace, eBay has just about anything that you could possibly be looking for. Whether you're shopping for something as simple as new dress socks or on the hunt for something as specific as a vintage jacket from your favorite brand, eBay is the perfect place to look.

Despite the convenience of being able to get everything you need and want from the comfort of your home — or wherever you may be — online shopping can still prove to be a bit daunting, especially when it comes to eBay. Being wary about how to navigate the website, distinguishing reputable sellers, and making safe and secure purchases might've caused you to stay away in the past, but now you can shop with confidence.

As an avid user, I've bought everything from car parts to clothes, shoes, and electronics on eBay and you can, too. You probably already have an item in mind that you're planning to buy soon, so instead of going to the store, make your next purchase on eBay.

Check out seven easy steps to shopping with confidence on eBay, below:

Find the perfect item.

eBay's home page has specific categories, as well as suggestions that will help you find the items you're looking for. No matter what you're looking for, you'll be able to narrow your search by filtering a plethora of applicable fields. If you know exactly what you're looking for, use the search bar to enter keywords such as the year, size, color, or even SKU of the item.

Keep looking for the right deal.

Shop around! You don't have to jump on the first thing you see. eBay is a huge marketplace, so it’s very likely that you’ll find more than one of what you’re looking for. Some items might be cheaper, in better condition, or take less time to be delivered, so it’s worth checking out everything listed before making a purchase.

Be a smart shopper. If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is!

That’s not to say truly amazing deals can’t be found on eBay all the time, but if you run across an item that’s drastically underpriced, be alarmed. For example, a $50 MacBook or a $20 iPhone 7 Plus are items you should probably avoid. Also, read the listing carefully. You might actually be buying a picture of the item like this guy did.
