NFL POWER RANKINGS: Where all 32 teams stand going into Week 12

$

Philadelphia Eagles

The NFL season remains a tale of two divisions.

The NFC is loaded, with the Eagles showing no signs of slowing down, the Saints bringing their win streak to eight games, and the tier of Vikings, Rams, Panthers, Lions, Falcons, and Seahawks looking like a death race that will leave at least one good team out of the postseason.

The AFC, meanwhile, appears to be the Patriots, Steelers — and then everyone else. The Chiefs are sliding and we're still waiting for the Jaguars to prove they're a true threat in the postseason.

See where each team stands as we head into Week 12:

32. Cleveland Browns

Record: 0-10

Last week: Lost to the Jaguars, 19-7

This week: at Cincinnati Bengals

One thing to know: The Browns' Week 11 loss was their 35th loss in 37 games. Time is running out to get win No. 1 this year.

31. San Francisco 49ers

Record: 1-9

Last week: Bye

This week: vs. Seattle Seahawks

One thing to know: C.J. Beathard led the Niners to their first win of the year against the Giants in their last game before their bye week, but newly acquired Jimmy Garoppolo has now had an extra week of practice to get up to speed on the San Francisco offense. Will this be the day we finally see Jimmy G make his debut?

30. Chicago Bears

Record: 3-7

Last week: Lost to the Lions, 27-24

This week: at Philadelphia Eagles

One thing to know: The Bears cut kicker Connor Barth after he missed the game-tying field goal attempt with eight seconds left on Sunday. "It wasn’t going great," said head coach John Fox after the team cut Barth.

Brutal images show how the Rohingya people are being slaughtered and forced to flee Myanmar

Rohingya

They've been called "the most persecuted minority in the world."

Subjected to rape, killings, and the destruction of their villages, more than 600,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar since August.

“The situation seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing,” Zeid Ra‘ad al-Hussein, the chief of the UN's Human Rights Council, said in September.

The Rohingya, who live in Rakhine state in Buddhist-dominated Myanmar, have been in the country since the 8th century. But the government considers them illegal immigrants, not citizens. A recent Amnesty International report even labeled their treatment as apartheid.

While they've faced such persecution for decades, the Rohingya's situation dramatically worsened in August, when the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army — a Rohingya insurgent group — attacked a police post and killed more than 10 officers.

Since then, the Myanmar army has destroyed more than 288 Rohingya villages, raped and killed the residents, and sent others fleeing to Bangladesh.

But Myanmar denies the allegations, insisting that it is fighting terrorism and that the Rohingya are burning down their own villages.

The following images and videos show what the Rohingya are going through.

Rohingya people often tell similar stories: Burmese security forces entered and attacked their villages.

They often say that Burmese security forces began shooting Rohingya villagers indiscriminately, beat and execute them, and even rape women.

Some villagers recount family members being burned alive, their babies being thrown in fires, and other horrific stories.

Burmese security forces have reportedly burned some of the Rohingya bodies to hide the evidence.

From glowing orbs to putting 'America first' with world leaders: Here are the most memorable photos from Trump's first year in office

trump toasts

  • There have been many ups and downs since President Donald Trump took office in 2016.
  • Here are the most memorable moments and milestones from his first year, in photos.

A lot has happened in President Donald Trump's first year in office.

He's faced hurricanes, wildfires, deadly mass shootings in Las Vegas and Texas, and a terrorist a ttack in New York City. He's met with world leaders in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to strengthen relations with allies in the fight against a weakened ISIS and to confront an increasingly nuclearized North Korea.

Back home, as Trump's plans to repeal and replace Obamacare stall, the administration hopes to check off tax reform as one of its major legislative accomplishments. Trump says a 17-year low unemployment rate of just 4.1%, higher-than-expected GDP growth, and a 17-year high consumer confidence index are signs the economy is booming.

Trump also nominated Neil Gorsuch as a Supreme Court justice, instituted travel restrictions on citizens from mostly majority-Muslim countries, declared the opioid crisis a "public health emergency," rolled back Obama-era environmental regulations, pulled out of the Paris climate accord, called for a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military, and much more.

Meanwhile, the investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election continues to plague the White House. Special counsel Robert Mueller has already indicted three of Trump's associates: former campaign manager Paul Manafort, foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, and Manafort's protégé, Rick Gates.

As Trump prepares to enter his second year in office, let's take some time to reflect on some of the most memorable moments of his young presidency, in photos:

10 Democrats to watch in 2020

$

Bernie Sanders

  • A large group of Democratic potentials are quietly fundraising and testing the waters for potential 2020 presidential bids.
  • The possible contenders include everyone from progressive populists like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, to establishment centrists.

While the unofficial start of the 2020 presidential election is still a year away, a large group of Democratic potentials are quietly fundraising and testing the waters for potential bids.

Progressive populists like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, more centrist lawmakers including Sens. Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand, and even former Vice President Joe Biden are expected to jump into the race.

Here are 10 potential Democratic contenders for president in 2020:

SEE ALSO: We just got our clearest sign yet that the 2018 elections could be a Democratic 'tsunami'

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders

The Vermont senator is the most popular politician in America, according to recent polling, and has kept himself busy promoting his political group, Our Revolution, and traveling the country discussing everything from his Medicare-for-all proposal to free college.

Between his progressive views, millions of supporters in the 2016 primary, and high approval ratings,  Sanders has a real chance of becoming the next Democratic nominee — if he wants to run again.

Sanders will be 78 years old in 2020, which would make him the oldest person — by eight years — ever elected to the presidency.

Former Vice President Joe Biden

Touring the country this month to promote his new book about the loss of his 46-year-old son, Beau, to brain cancer in 2015, Biden refused to rule out a 2020 run.

A former senator from Delaware who ran for president in 1987 and 2007, Biden has spoken openly about regretting his decision not to run in 2016 and has been critical of Hillary Clinton's campaign in the aftermath of her loss.

While popular among white working class voters, Biden will be 77 in 2020 and might be too closely tied to the party establishment to win key support from younger voters and the more progressive wing of the party.

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand

The New York senator, who sits in Hillary Clinton's former seat, has moved significantly to the left on a host of issues, from gun control to healthcare, perhaps in preparation for a presidential bid.

Gillibrand made headlines when she argued that former President Bill Clinton should have resigned over his consensual sexual affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, and she recently introduced legislation that would reform the Senate's sexual harassment policies.

But the senator's ties to Wall Street and the Clintons as well as her history of centrism might hurt a potential bid.

This photographer captured shots of New Yorkers on their way to work for 10 years — and it shows how repetitive a commute can really be

  • Photographer Peter Funch photographed the same Manhattan corner during the morning rush hour for 10 years.
  • Intrigued by the idea of repetition, he captured photos of the same people on their way to work over a period of time.
  • His new book, "42nd and Vanderbilt," is a collection of his work from the series.

About 700,000 people pass through Manhattan's Grand Central Station on their way to work every day.

In 2007, photographer Peter Funch began staking out a corner of the station, at 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, to document those commuters. Funch would snap photos between the morning hours of 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and often, he would photograph the same subject twice — sometimes days apart, sometimes years.

Fascinated by these small moments of human behavior, Funch created a series that explores these seemingly mundane moments. His unknowing subjects are captured smoking, listening and singing along to music, people-watching, and making eye contact with other commuters.

"All these moments are telling small stories about us," he said to Business Insider.

His new book "42nd and Vanderbilt," places his subjects side by side. The two photos, taken at different moments, show the similarities in the day to day and explore the idea of repetition and ritual. Funch acknowledged that the photos capture "that trance we are in when going from A to B."

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: The players that teams are kicking themselves for drafting before Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2013

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo has become a superstar for the Milwaukee Bucks, a two-way, athletic force who's already dominating at 23 years old.

Yet four years ago, few people in the NBA could have ever seen this coming. When Antetokounmpo was taken 15th in the 2013 draft, he was lanky forward from Greece few people knew about. The potential was there, but could he put it all together?

Now, looking back, 14 teams missed the opportunity to draft a star that has become the clear-cut best player from the draft.

Take a look back at the 2013 draft and the 14 players picked before him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers took Anthony Bennett with the No. 1 pick.

Bennett never panned out in the NBA. He played on four teams in four years. He was most recently waived by the Suns in October.

The Orlando Magic took Victor Oladipo with the second pick.

There's a reason the popcorn smells so good

Why does it smell so good? The popcorn has chemicals in it to make its aroma fill the theater. Try this recipe for making amazing DIY popcorn in your microwave instead.

We purposely use lower quality

“Extreme Digital” is actually lower quality than IMAX digital. We use it because it’s easier to maintain. Did you know that movie theaters used to ban popcorn?! This is why.

Concessions make us money

For the first month or two of screening, money from ticket sales goes to movie studios. Theaters rely on concession stands to make money. That’s why concessions are overpriced. Popcorn costs almost nothing to make. Make sure you always follow this etiquette at the movie theater.

How the billionaire founder of LinkedIn turned his dream of being a 'public intellectual' into a life as one of Silicon Valley's most prominent investors

reid hoffman

  • Reid Hoffman is the billionaire cofounder of LinkedIn and an influential tech investor.
  • He has a masters in philosophy from Oxford and considers it useful to his approach to business.
  • His role as a prominent speaker and writer on entrepreneurship and careers is the result of a childhood ambition to be a "public intellectual."

The teenager who loved Dungeons and Dragons and philosophy is still a fundamental part of Reid Hoffman, one of the most influential people in Silicon Valley.

In an interview for Business Insider's podcast "Success! How I Did It," the billionaire founder of LinkedIn explained that the ability to strategize he honed playing complex board games and the intense analytical skills he acquired studying dense philosophical tracts are crucial to the way he approaches business, despite lacking a standard business education.

Hoffman took us through his remarkable and unusual path.

SEE ALSO: LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman reveals what it was like building PayPal with Elon Musk and Peter Thiel and what it takes to make a $26.2 billion company

Hoffman was born in Palo Alto, California, in 1957, and grew up in Berkeley. His parents were both lawyers and leftist activists.

Hoffman's babysitter introduced him to Dungeons and Dragons when he was 10, kicking off a new love of strategy and role-playing games. At 12, a game maker hired him for a one-time consulting role on a new game after he pointed out their last game's flaws.

"There's nothing obsessive like a kid," Hoffman told us, referring to his game-playing habit. "I spent literally days and days and days and days just doing that and that led me to a sense of strategy which was then, of course, very helpful when I later got to my entrepreneurial and business life."

He had what he now considers an early desire to be independent, and convinced his parents to send him to the progressive boarding school Putney, in Vermont. This wasn't like the Dead Poets Society — Hoffman learned blacksmithing, woodworking, and farming techniques in addition to his academic studies.

The Putney School's magazine The Putney Post interviewed several of Hoffman's classmates and teachers in 2009, and learned that Hoffman was an introspective kid who displayed his intelligence in class discussions.

While Hoffman was picked on for what teenagers would consider his love of "nerdy" things, he has only had good things to say as an adult about his time at Putney.

He said there was "a very pragmatic kind of 'work on solving the problem' versus 'being an expert within a discipline,'" at the school, and that he is grateful for learning that you could take "this kind of entrepreneurial focus on a personal life," instead of associating his future self with a single title like "product manager,""artist," or "lawyer."

8 celebrity homes that no one wants to buy

michael jordan house

  • A celebrity owner isn't necessarily enough to sell a home.
  • Some celebrity-owned homes have sat on the market for years.
  • Michael Jordan, for example, has been trying to sell his Highland Park, Illinois mansion since 2012.

While an association with a celebrity seems like it would help a home sell more quickly, that doesn't seem to always be the case.

According to Redfin, homes owned by celebrities tend to spend 36 more days on the market than other homes, and they typically sell for less than what the seller had originally asked for.

It could be that these homes have price tags that only a celebrity-sized paycheck could cover — or, it could just be that the draw of a star power is not as strong as it would appear.

Either way, we've rounded up eight celebrity-owned homes that have languished on the market — some of them for several years at several different price points.

SEE ALSO: No one wants to buy this $18.75 million townhouse owned by a real-life 'Wolf of Wall Street'-er

50 Cent's Connecticut mansion

50 Cent first listed his 50,000-square-foot home in Farmington, Connecticut, for $18.5 million in 2015. In the fall of that year, he lowered the price significantly, to $8.5 million, after he had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

He again lowered the price, this time to $5.995 million, in 2016, and the price has remained the same since.

The home is totally over the top, with "21 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms, an indoor pool and hot tub, a substantial night club, an indoor court, multiple game rooms, a green screen room, a recording studio," among many other opulent features, according to the Douglas Elliman listing.

Matt Lauer's Sag Harbor estate

Matt Lauer is having a hard time offloading his home in the Hamptons. Horiginally listed for $17.995 million in July 2016. He cut $1 million from the listing price in September 2016, and now it's asking $14.9 million.

The 8,000-square-foot home sits on top of a 25-acre private lot. The home was built in a stunning traditional style with plenty of space for entertaining guests and a backyard pool to lay out by.

Steve Cohen's mansion in the sky

Billionaire hedge funder Steve Cohen has been seeking a buyer for his Manhattan duplex penthouse since 2013.

It's had a number of different listing prices: $115 million, $98 million, $82 million, $79 million, $72 million, $67.5 million, and now, $57.5 million.

The 9,000-square-foot space has five bedrooms and six baths. Cohen is an avid art collector, and the home has a dedicated gallery to put his pieces on display.

lightning 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • We've charged our iPhones with dozens of lightning cables over the years to find the best ones. The durable Anker PowerLine lightning cable is a cut above the rest.

Anyone who has ever owned an iPhone loves to hate Apple's lightning cables. The charging cables that come with your iPhone or iPad don't usually last too long, and you end up needing more than one lightning cable at home anyway.

Luckily, the internet is full of great lightning charging cables to suit your every need. Whether you need an extra long cord, a super short one, or the most durable one in the world, there's a lightning cable for you out there.

However, there are lots of cheap lightning cables that aren't MFi certified by Apple, and many of them are dangerous or ineffective. You should always buy MFi-certified lightning cords for your own safety, so we've rounded up the very best Apple-approved lightning cables we've tested over the years.

Updated on 11/22/2017 by Malarie Gokey: Added the Nomad Universal Cable.

Although the Anker PowerLine is our top pick, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the AmazonBasics cable, the Native Union Night cable, the Fuse Chicken Titan cablethe Ventev ChargeSync cable, the Monoprice Luxe Series Lightning Charge & Sync cable, and the Nomad Universal Cable

The best lightning cable overall

Why you'll love it: The Anker PowerLine Lightning cable is the best cord for most people with its sturdy design, fast charging speed, and fair price point.

When it comes to lightning cables, you can't beat Anker's PowerLine lightning cables. These cables have it all: They're fast to charge your iPhone or sync data, they're durable, and they're affordable.

The cable is strengthened with Kevlar and the stress points near the lightning charger and the USB connector are reinforced for added durability. They're slightly wider than the connectors on Apple's cable, but the Anker cable should fit most iPhone cases.

In testing, Anker bent the PowerLine cables more than 5,000 times to ensure that they last. The company also offers an 18-month warranty and it has a great reputation for following through when users have problems.

The best cheap lightning cable

Why you'll love it: The AmazonBasics 3-foot lightning cable is the cheapest cord on our list, but it's still excellent.

Sometimes you just need a cheap lightning cable for your iPhone. If you're not interested in paying a premium for your charging cable, Amazon has you covered with its no-frills AmazonBasics Apple Certified lightning cable.

Amazon offers three different lengths: four inches, three feet, and six feet. The neck next to the lightning cable is relatively thin, so it should fit into the cutout for the charging port for most iPhone cases. The ends are reinforced to improve durability, though, and Amazon says it put the cable through 4,000 95-degree bend tests. The AmazonBasics cable even comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Unlike most cheap lightning cables, you can count on the AmazonBasics cable to work with your iPhone or iPad, because it's MFi certified by Apple. That's rare for cheap cables, and it's incredibly important — uncertified third-party cables can be dangerous and result in charging problems or even damage to your iPhone. If money is a concern, buy this cable instead.

User reviews on Amazon are positive, and sites like Lifewire, Best Products, and Digital Trends all recommend the AmazonBasics cable. It comes in black and white, and you can get 3-foot, 6-foot, or 4-inch lengths. Amazon offers two packs of the 3-and-6-foot cords.

Pros: It's super cheap, extra protection at stress points, passed a 4,000 bend test, it's MFi certified by Apple, and it has a one-year warranty

Cons: It only comes in black or white

The best long lightning cable

Why you'll love it: The 10-foot Native Union Night cable makes charging your iPhone super easy when you need a long, strong, stable lightning cable.

If you've ever struggled with a short cord, you'll absolutely love Native Union's weighted Night cable. Not only is it 10 feet long, it's also durable and has a weighted knot that keeps it from pulling your iPhone off the table while it's charging.

Native Union makes its lightning cables out of braided nylon, which is strong and durable. It also means that the cable doesn't tangle as much. There are four layers of material protecting the cable's wires: braided nylon, a TPE rubber sleeve, a tinned copper braid, and a grounding layer. Inside all those layers are wires that are also protected and reinforced — some of them even have Kevlar fiber inside.

Native Union is so confident in its lightning cables that it put them through a 10,000 bend test to see whether they would break or fray, and the cables survived. The company also offers a limited lifetime warranty, so you know this cable is built to last.

I've used the Native Union Night cable for the past three years as my main charger, and it has never let me down. I've bent it all sorts of ways, and it hasn't frayed at all. I typically use the weight to keep my iPhone on my nightstand while I charge it, but it's easy to adjust when I need the weight anchoring the cord in another place. The cable comes in several fun colors, too, so it looks nice in any home.

The Night cable is also highly rated by users on Amazon and Native Union's website. Many tech publications also recommend Native Union's Night cable.

Pros: It's 10-feet long, weighted so it doesn't fall, covered in sturdy woven fabric, 12-month warranty, MFi certified by Apple, and it bends but doesn't break

Cons: Expensive

The biggest shopping days of the year are nearly upon us and if you're unsure what to go out and buy this holiday season for the kids in your life, we have you covered.

2017 is all about "Star Wars," interactive toys, and little baby monkeys called Fingerlings.

After attending several toy fairs, running to a few major retailers, and attending toy review site TTPM's annual holiday showcase this year, INSIDER rounded up the toys that every kid will want on their holiday list.

1. Fingerlings

Call them this year's Hatchimals. The small interactive baby monkeys from WowWee are small enough to wear on your finger and respond to touch, sound, and motion with over 40 different sounds and features. There is also a baby unicorn exclusively at Toys 'R Us. A sloth named Kingsley was released November 17.

The toys have been hard to find in major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Toys 'R Us. You can find them on Amazon, but you may wind up paying triple retail price.

You can read more about Fingerlings and how to find them here.

Price: $14.95

2. Star Wars Forces of Destiny dolls

I was stopped dead in my tracks when I first saw these dolls earlier this year. They're gorgeous, detail oriented, have multiple points of articulation for role play and come in outfits that look like the real deal.

We also recommend Hasbro's Black Series line of "Star Wars" figures for older kids and collectors.

Price: From $19+

3. Nerf's Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K blaster

This may be the smoothest and easiest Nerf blaster we've ever handled.

Much of that is because the Rival Nemesis is fully-automatic which allows it to shoot out the small foam round balls quickly. The only downside? It requires 6 D batteries.

Price: $100

  • John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated 54 years ago this Wednesday.
  • During his short presidency, he served at the height of the Cold War, oversaw the Cuban Missile Crisis, and supported the Civil Rights movement.
  • We put together a selection of his quotes about leadership.

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, knew a thing or two about leadership.

During his short presidency, he served at the height of the Cold War, oversaw the Cuban Missile Crisis, and supported the Civil Rights movement.

He was assassinated 54 years ago this Wednesday, but his observations and comments about integrity, leadership, and human rights endure.

We put together 14 quotes from the president about leadership below.

SEE ALSO: Famous last words of 19 famous people

"The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened."

He continued:

"One hundred years of delay have passed since President Lincoln freed the slaves, yet their heirs, their grandsons, are not fully free. They are not yet freed from the bonds of injustice. They are not yet freed from social and economic oppression. And this Nation, for all its hopes and all its boasts, will not be fully free until all its citizens are free."

JFK said that line while delivering the Civil Rights Address over radio and television on June 11, 1963, in which he proposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

"The times are too grave, the challenge too urgent, and the stakes too high — to permit the customary passions of political debate. We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane future."

JFK said that line in his presidential nomination acceptance speech on July 15, 1960.

"For courage — not complacency — is our need today. Leadership — not salesmanship. And the only valid test of leadership is the ability to lead, and lead vigorously."

JFK said that line in his presidential nomination acceptance speech on July 15, 1960.

NFL WEEK 12: Our official predictions for who wins this weekend

Minnesota Vikings

Happy Thanksgiving!

The year's best food-and-football centric holiday also brings a great slate of games to bet on this week.

Personally, I am thankful for our picks last week, which went a tidy 8-5-1 against the spread to get us back on the right side of winning. I'm also thankful for home underdogs, double-digit lines, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

This week is an interesting one for gamblers, with three of the highest lines of the year on the board, so let's get straight to the bets so we can make some money while we lounge around in a tryptophan haze on Thursday.

All lines courtesy of the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.

LAST WEEK: 8-5-1
OVERALL: 81-73-6

Minnesota Vikings (-3) at Detroit Lions (Thursday, 12:30 p.m. ET)

The pick: Lions +3

The logic: This is a trap game for the Vikings if I ever saw one. Coming off a big win against one of the strongest teams in the NFC and traveling on a short week to play Matthew Stafford and a Lions team that plays well on Thanksgiving. Detroit wins this one outright.

Los Angeles Chargers (-1) at Dallas Cowboys (Thursday, 4:30 p.m. ET)

The pick: Cowboys +1

The logic: This game has gone through an absolutely terrifying amount of line movement over the past few days. After opening with the Cowboys as four-point favorites, the line has moved five points to make Dallas a slight underdog. This shift was driven by two things — a poor performance of the Cowboys on Sunday night, and an influx of money on the Chargers.

Scenarios like this leave bettors with a tough choice — you can either follow the money, and lay the point with the Chargers, comfortable in the knowledge that the high-roller bettors thought it to be the right side earlier in the week, or you can take advantage of the five-point swing Vegas is now spotting you on short notice.

When this game opened, I was ready to slam the Chargers — they could easily be one of the top teams in the AFC if not for their early season field-goal struggles, and the Cowboys have shown absolutely nothing on offense since the loss of Ezekiel Elliott. But with the swing, I'm going to take the five extra points, and hope for the best.

New York Giants (+7.5) at Washington Redskins (Thursday, 8:30 p.m. ET)

The pick: Redskins -7.5

The logic: The Giants won in dramatic, last-second fashion last weekend. The Redskins lost in dramatic, last-second fashion last weekend. Judging by the ebb-and-flow nature of NFL football, we'll play the Redskins this week.
