Analysts forecast a swift backlash to President Donald Trump's decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and to recognize it as Israel's capital even before the announcement took place, and a day later, these prediction have been confirmed as protests erupted across the Muslim world.

Although the Palestinian cause may not be as powerful of a call to protest as it has been in years past, both Wednesday and Thursday saw widespread demonstrations and skirmishes throughout the Middle East as people took to the streets everywhere from Pakistan to Jerusalem itself.

Here are 13 dramatic photos of the aftermath of Trump's Jerusalem announcement:

In Jerusalem itself, Palestinian protestors gathered at the city's ancient Damascus Gate where they were met by Israeli police. The Palestinian Authority called for a general strike on Thursday, and Palestinians complied — shops in the Old City remain closed.

NFL WEEK 14: Our official predictions for who wins this weekend

$

jimmy garoppolo

With four weeks left in the NFL season, teams are fighting for position.

Some are clamoring for a playoff spot. Others are trying to stay as close to perfect as possible in order to secure a first round bye. The rest are looking forward to next April and the 2018 NFL Draft.

Week 14 presents another great slate of games to gamble on, including a few matchups pitting the top teams of the NFC against each other, and other games that may go on to decide a division title. After a middling week of 7-9 against the spread last weekend, this week we look to get back to our winning ways and take the books for all they got.

Below are our best bets of Week 14 of the NFL season.

All lines courtesy of the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.

LAST WEEK: 7-9
OVERALL: 99-87-7

New Orleans Saints (PK) at Atlanta Falcons (Thursday, 8:30 p.m. ET)

The pick: Falcons PK

The logic: The Saints are one of the hottest teams in football right now, but the idea of the Falcons losing two straight at home seems like a good one to bet against.

Indianapolis Colts (NO LINE) at Buffalo Bills (Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET)

The pick: Colts

The logic: Still no line on this game as it's unclear whether or not Tyrod Taylor will be able to play after going down with a knee contusion last week against the Patriots. While he participated in limited practice on Thursday, bettors or either getting a half-healthy Taylor on Sunday or another game from Nathan Peterman, so I'm just closing my eyes and backing Indy.

Chicago Bears (+6.5) at Cincinnati Bengals (Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET)

The pick: Bears +6.5

The logic: The Bengals five wins have come over the Browns, Bills, Colts, Broncos, and Browns. That's not a team I want to lay a touchdown with.

China's top discipline watchdog has released a collection of cartoon GIFs reminding citizens of the anti-corruption rules officials must follow.

The set of 16 GIFs were released this week as a package of stickers available to download and share on WeChat.

Called the "Eight Rules Expression Package," the animated cartoons illustrate very strict rules on officials' behavior that have become more visible this year amid a crackdown on corruption and society at large.

China's government has previously released propaganda videos, apps and cartoons to promote its agenda, but this appears to be the first collection of GIFs.

Check out the custom GIFs below.

Robert Vicino, owner of Vivos Group, told Business Insider that the company began hosting tours of the bunkers in May 2017 and has sold over two dozen bunkers for $25,000 each.

Although no one currently lives at xPoint, buyers are starting to build out the interiors.

The property contains 575 bunkers made of hardened concrete and steel.

Located in South Dakota, the structures were originally built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1942 as a military fortress that stored explosives and munitions.

The bunkers were built to withstand a 500,000-pound blast from explosives within.

I spent 34 hours flying coach on Ethiopian Airlines, the best airline in Africa — here's what it was like

ethiopian flight

Before I booked my round-trip flight to Nairobi, Kenya, in November, the longest flight I'd taken was a 12-hour nonstop trip from New York to Israel.

This was a different beast: a two-connection flight beginning Sunday night and ending in the wee hours of Tuesday, then the same thing all over again a week later. The total flying time was about 17 hours each way, excluding layovers.

My saving grace was that I was flying Ethiopian Airlines, which was rated the best airline in Africa by Skytrax passenger surveys. Seated in coach for the duration of my trip, I found out why Ethiopian had earned that honor.

Here's what my return journey was like.

SEE ALSO: I flew first class on American Airlines across the US to see how it stacks up against coach — here's what I discovered

I knew my journey with the airline was off to a great start when the Ethiopian website informed me I could opt for a "bland meal"— among 15 other options.

A week later, I found myself in the departures terminal of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Even though it was 4 a.m., the Ethiopian Airlines staff members were cordial and pleasant. I'm sure I failed at matching their warmth.

Around 6:30 a.m., we walked on the tarmac to the Boeing 737 that would ship us to Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital about two hours away.

We tried San Francisco's legendary sourdough from the best local bakeries — and the winner was clear

Boudin Bakery

San Francisco and sourdough bread are basically synonymous. Gold miners discovered this in the mid-1800s, and visitors to the city have been rediscovering it ever since.

It's not just hometown pride either — the special flavor in San Francisco sourdough comes from the lactic acids produced by bacteria that gets into the bread.

I recently set out on a mission to find the best sourdough bread San Francisco has to offer. To choose the bakeries I'd visit, I consulted rankings from Serious Eats, Yelp, Trip Savvy and Foursquare. At each bakery, I ordered an untoasted piece of bread with no accoutrements to get the true taste and flavor. I ranked my slices based on overall flavor, crunch, and texture.

Four loaves of sourdough later, here are the results:

SEE ALSO: We tried 8 of the best burritos in San Francisco — here's the champion

My first stop was Boudin Bakery on the Embarcadero.

Boudin is the definitive home of sourdough in San Francisco. It was established in 1849, and has since evolved into a chain with a full menu of baked goods, sandwiches, and soups.

It's a pretty big tourist attraction too, and I was a little skeptical that it had been able to maintain its original quality. Sadly, I was correct. I ordered a small sourdough roll and it was difficult to bite into, and almost hard to chew and swallow. The sour taste was pretty overpowering, and I ended up abandoning my roll after only one bite.

Cost: Small sourdough roll, $0.99

It may sound like an overused TV trope, but moms-to-be actually do experience intense, and sometimes really weird, pregnancy cravings for certain foods. Although no one knows the exact reason behind the cravings, many doctors theorize that some could be related to nutrients an expectant mom may be lacking.

This is especially true if you are craving things that are inedible. The American Pregnancy Association notes that the practice of craving substances with little or no nutritional value is known as pica, and may be related to an iron-deficiency or another underlying health issue. Talk to your healthcare provider right away if you start to crave things other than food.

But with the help of Reddit, we've rounded up some of the strangest pregnancy cravings that will either have your stomach turning or your mouth watering.

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase

downloadFor the first-time homeowner, there’s a long grocery list of things they’re going to need and a tighter budget to fill those needs.

They’ll be buying matching bowls and plates, new silverware (have they really had 17x more forks than spoons all this time?) and trying to fill their new place with decorations and nicer versions of whatever was suiting the same purpose in their childhood home or college dorm.

Since they might not have as much money as they wish when just starting out, the most thoughtful gifts often intersect with the most useful ones. The only reason they will want a piece of artwork you picked out or a portable reflection pool is if they can sell it and then stock the hallway closet with toilet paper from the sale.

Below, we collected 17 gifts that the first-time homeowner really wants, needs, and will appreciate from any of their loved ones.

The 24 best movies you probably didn't see this year

mother disaster artist captain underpants movies missed thumbnail

Every year, plenty of lists appear touting the best movie of the year (we're no exception), box office results are tallied, and a consensus builds around the top movies everyone loved. Some, if they're lucky, end up among the best of all time.

These movies are definitely worth watching. Everyone should watch "Get Out" and "Wonder Woman." But there are many, many more great movies out there.

Some just didn't get the right push from their distributors, some opened on the same weekend as a box office juggernaut, and others just didn't find the right audience at the right time.

But they're all still excellent, and many of them are among the best movies of the year. Definitely track down these 24 great movies you probably missed this year.

SEE ALSO: After burning out writing blockbuster rom-coms, this screenwriter reinvented himself by tracking down infamous figure skater Tonya Harding

"Colossal"

What it's about: Out of work, Gloria moves back to her hometown and reconnects with some people from her past and drinks too much. At the same time, she learns that she can control a giant kaijū monster terrorizing Seoul.

Why you should see it: Since it has a high-concept story, "Colossal"could have easily been terrible, but bucks the trend by being a funny and smart movie about the dangers of alcoholism and abuse. Anne Hathaway anchors the whole thing and Jason Sudeikis demonstrates he can be an effective dramatic actor.

"The Lost City of Z"

What it's about: Based on a true story set in the 1920s, the British explorer Percy Fawcett sets off to discover a mythological city in the Amazon jungle, disproving the Royal Geographical Society but leaving his wife behind.

Why you should see it: Hollywood rarely makes grand adventure stories like this anymore unless they feature one of the Avengers or a lightsaber. "The Lost City of Z" is both grand, as well as an insightful movie about obsession, one's place in history, and what happens to what you leave behind.

"The Big Sick"

What it's about: Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani falls in love and breaks up with a graduate student named Emily Gardner. When Gardner falls ill, he finds himself taking care of her and becoming close to her parents as their cultures clash.

Why you should see it: Aside from being the best movie about an interracial romance ever made, "The Big Sick" is hilarious, deeply personal, and has a miraculously nuanced portrayal of Nanjiani's Muslim-American heritage. Oh, and it's also based on a true story — Nanjiani is happily married to Emily V. Gordon.

The holiday movie you should be watching this season, according to your zodiac sign

Love Actually

  • The end of Thanksgiving marks the beginning of holiday movie marathons.
  • From Christmas classics to Hallmark original movies, there are so many festive holiday films to choose from.
  • Here are the holiday movies you should be watching, according to your zodiac sign.

We can barely wait for the last bite of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving before we’re cozying up for a marathon of Hallmark’s original holiday movies. Of course, we’re all about the Christmas classics too — but with so many to choose from, it’s hard to know which festive film to watch first. To help make the decision for you, check out our zodiac movie guide below. Who knows, you may even learn an adulting lesson or two.

AQUARIUS: "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"

While his shining red nose made him an outsider among his peers, it was Rudolph’s uniqueness that saved Christmas in the end — and that’s Aquarius AF. You’re all about capitalizing on what makes you stand out and rebelling if it means making progress for a good cause. It’s a specific kind of independence that favors originality over normal and we wouldn’t have you — or Rudolph — any other way.

PISCES: "It’s a Wonderful Life"

You’re well known to get spiritual with a heaping dose of sentimentality thrown in, Pisces — it’s why we love you and why we love "It’s a Wonderful Life." When George Bailey feels overwhelmed by the seeming helplessness of his situation, an angel shows him just how important his existence is — and as an empath, you’re not immune to that desire to escape reality. Thankfully, you both realize that your compassionate, caring nature just means you have a well-rounded life, full of beautiful ups and downs.

ARIES: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"

We’re by no means calling you a Grinch, Aries, but you do share a fiercely independent streak with the cantankerous Dr. Seuss character. And even though the grinch’s passion is misplaced at first, he ultimately uses his innate leadership skills and generously big heart to bring the town of Whoville together — and that’s a kind of determination you really admire.

The first season finale of Netflix's first original German series "Dark" likely left a majority of at-home viewers with their minds simultaneously blown and full of questions. Why did Mikkel/Michael kill himself? What was Jonas supposed to understand based on his suicide note?

Mikkel is still a very mysterious figure in "Dark." Jonas refers to him being "sick" in the years leading up to his life — is it possible that seeing himself be born and grow up drove him to a mental brink?

But how did he come to create that map of the caves? And how did he learn the exact moment of his disappearance?

Why did Mikkel appear covered in ink or oil every time Jonas saw him in dreams or visions?

Jonas saw his father, Michael (the adult-Mikkel) three times over the ten episodes. Each time it appeared to be a vision or dream, and his father was covered in streaks of black liquid. It might have been paint, since Mikkel seems to have become an artist, but what is the purpose of this symbolism?

How did Mikkel get to 1986? We saw him emerge from the caves but never saw him enter them or the door portal.

When Jonas and Mikkel were running through the forest, Jonas fell down and lost sight of Mikkel. Where did he go? Did he run back to the caves? Or did someone like Helge grab him and bring him back into the caves? If that's the case, why would Helge have let him go once inside the 1986 cave? Why not bring him to the bunker?

If it wasn't Helge, is there a second wormhole portal in the woods?

So we asked Jim Manning, a full-time children's entertainer who's played Santa Jim in Boston for the past 14 years, to shed some light on the most awkward things kids say at Christmas and how he responds.

Feel free to take some notes for your own curious Santa fans.

Manning says:

DON'T MISS: From police-grade cooling vest to $750 beard, here's what it takes to make a living as Santa

'Will you get me that toy?'

I never commit to any presents. You could have a child grab me by the shoulder and ask, "Santa, will you bring me an X-box?" And I will say, "We will see what we can do." Because even if a parent is whispering in my ear "We will definitely get them that toy," I don't know that they're going to find it in the store, and I don't know that they're going to deliver. So I never commit to any single present.

'Can I have a puppy?'

I also get asked about pets a lot — "Can I have a puppy?""Can I have a kitty?"— and I explain that, because it gets so cold on the sleigh, I don't bring animals with me. And that's a decision to make with Mommy and Daddy.

'You don't look like the other Santa I saw'

Sometimes kids will come up and say, "You're different from the other Santa Claus I saw," and I'll say, "Well, that was one of my helpers," which is something I encourage all Santas to do.

You're the real Santa, and everybody else is your helper, so as to not cause confusion.

It's really a case-by-case basis, but I try to stay on the kids' level as much as I can.

Ordering wine can be intimidating. It's a complex drink with a lot of history, and there are certain rules surrounding it that shouldn't be broken, particularly when it comes to ordering it at a restaurant.

While attending Wine Riot, an event that aims to take the pretentiousness out of wine culture, I chatted with sommelier Jason Tesauro, who's also known as The Modern Gentleman.

I had so many questions: when the waiter pours a sample into your glass, are you supposed to sip it? If you don't like it, can you ask to return it? And, luckily, Tesauro had the answers.

1. When the waiter shows you the bottle and announces the name of the wine, they're double-checking it's the one you ordered.

Don't get intimidated or confused by this move — the waiter is simply making sure they didn't make a mistake.

"They are coming over with the contract. [They're asking] 'Is this what you ordered?'" Tesauro said.

2. The first thing you should do is check the temperature of the bottle.

If you want to look like an expert and have a proper glass of wine, check the temperature of the bottle with the palm of your hand.

"The first thing I do is put my hand on the bottle and feel it. Are my red wines too warm? Are my white wines too cold?"Tesauro said.

Light-white wines, rosés, and sparkling wines should be served at around 40° to 60° Fahrenheit. More full-bodied white wines and light reds should be around 50° to 60° Fahrenheit, and darker, full-bodied reds should be 60° to 65° Fahrenheit.

If the temperature feels off, Tesauro suggests asking your waiter to either ice a too-warm red or leave out a too-cold white.

3. Don't sip it — just swirl, look at, and smell it.

When the waiter pours you a sample before serving the whole table, it's not a taste test.

Tesauro explains: "They are not asking you whether or not you like the wine. They're asking you whether the wine has survived. Did the wine make it from the vineyard, to the importer's containership, to the distributor, to our cellar, to your glass correctly?"

"When they pour the wine, all you need to do is swirl it, look at it, and smell it," he said.

General rule of thumb: if it smells fruity and fresh — not musty, or like vinegar — the bottle is fine, and you should not return it.

By not sipping the sample, you're also taking your first drink with the rest of the table — after a toast, of course.

Facebook NYC employees

• Facebook is now the most desirable place to work, according to Glassdoor.

• Business Insider spoke with top execs and employees to get a sense of how to land a job at the company.

• They said it's important to have a good grasp on Facebook's culture.

Facebook just snagged the top spot in Glassdoor's annual rankings of the most desirable places to work.

So it's understandable if you're dying to work for the tech giant. But if you've set your sights on a big-name company with a selective hiring process like Facebook, the whole thing can seem rather overwhelming, maybe even impossible.

Don't get discouraged, though. You just need to know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

Business Insider spoke to Facebook global head of recruiting Miranda Kalinowski and VP of people Lori Goler, as well as other Facebook employees, to get a better sense of what it's like to interview at the Menlo Park, California-based company.

Here's what they had to say:

Keep in mind, Facebook has a ton of different recruiting strategies

Kalinowski said that the process can vary based on what team you're being hired onto. But across the board, she stressed that Facebook recruits individuals through a number of different channels, including the company's careers site, job fairs at universities, conferences, and even TED Talks.

First, most people go through a phone screener

Generally, recruiters will first screen you over the phone to cover some basics and make sure you're a real candidate. If you sound like you might be a good prospect, they'll follow up with a phone interview that focuses on your technical experience and skills.

Next, you'll meet your prospective team

After that, Kalinowski says that recruiters hand over the hiring process to employees who might be working with you directly.

"They're the closest to the work being done, so they're able to impart a lot of first-hand experience about what it's like to work on that team in that role, as well as answer any questions that the candidate might have," she told Business Insider.

If you show promise, then you'll be invited to visit Facebook to check out the campus and go through four to six more interviews with some of your potential team members.

Area 404 prototyping engineer Spencer Burns joined Facebook in January of 2016. He went through a day's worth of interviews with about five or six interviewers, which he said is fairly standard for the industry.

He said the interview gave him a great opportunity to connect with the company's culture.

"I actually felt really good after it because I realized that they take it very seriously," Burns said. "They really want the brightest and the best and they want to make sure they get the right people. I met some really cool people in my interview as well, so I was really excited about it."
