royal tour sweden norway

  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are touring Sweden and Norway on their first royal tour of 2018.
  • So far, they've played ice hockey and visited the Swedish royals at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
  • We'll keep updating this slideshow as the tour continues.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have embarked on their first royal tour of 2018. They'll be traveling to Sweden and Norway to sightsee, advocate for important causes, and visit the countries' respective royal families.

So far, they've challenged each other to a bandy hockey penalty shootout (spoiler alert: Prince William won) and met the Swedish royal family for lunch and a walkabout in Stockholm.

We'll keep updating this slideshow as the tour continues, but here are the best photos from their trip so far.

Prince William and Kate Middleton started their time in Sweden with a bandy hockey match, a popular winter sport.

They met pint-sized players on a local bandy hockey team at Vasaparken, an outdoor ice rink.

They handed out hot chocolate to team members.

Here are the 4 times Amazon has panicked investors in other companies

Jeff Bezos

  • Amazon has repeatedly showed an uncanny ability to disrupt entire segments of the stock market with corporate announcements.
  • The most recent example is Amazon's collaboration with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan, which spurred selling in healthcare stocks, but it's a dynamic that's happened repeatedly in recent months.

Amazon's newly announced collaboration with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan may have rocked the healthcare sector, but it's far from the first time Jeff Bezos & Co. have imposed their will on the market.

The company has made a habit out of crushing competitor market values with even the most basic of announcements, and their healthcare team-up is just the latest example of that.

The reasoning is simple — Amazon has a ton of cash and an unparalleled logistical network, and when it looks poised to enter a market, traders get scared and bail out of existing positions in other companies.

Amazon has done this so regularly, in fact, that it can be difficult to keep all the instances straight. That's where we come in.

Below you'll find a list summarizing recent examples of companies getting "Amazon'd"—  the Business Insider-coined term for when a stock finds itself at the whim of the ever-expanding juggernaut.

January 2018 — Healthcare stocks tumble after Amazon, JPMorgan, and Berkshire Hathaway announce collaboration to reduce costs for US workers

While the three companies weren't specific about what kind of enterprise they aim to create, noting only that they wanted to improve employee satisfaction while reducing costs, the announcement reverberated through the stock market.

Managed care and pharmacy providers absorbed the brunt of the selling, with companies including MetLife, Express Scripts, and UnitedHealth seeing large share drops that accounted for billions of dollars in lost value.

June 2017 — Grocery stocks slide after Amazon announces $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods ... and then again two months later after price cuts are announced

Amazon hit grocery stocks with a double-whammy of weakness in this particular instance, causing an initial drop after announcing its mega-acquisition of Whole Foods, then reigniting selling two months later after cutting prices.

The companies affected included KrogerSprouts Farmers MarketTarget, and Walmart, which fell anywhere from 2% to 8% on the various reports.

June 2017 — Athletic apparel retailers slide after report that Amazon was going to partner with Nike

In June 2017, Goldman Sachs published a report speculating that Nike was "close" to commencing a direct relationship selling product on Amazon.com. That caused selling in both athletic apparel manufacturers, as well as retail chains.

The companies affected included Dick's Sporting Goods, Under Armour, and Foot Locker.

The 5 most dastardly Disney movie villains of all time, ranked

$
0

shadow man

Our favorite Disney characters wouldn't hold a special place in our hearts if they didn't have to confront and overcome some of the meanest, most ruthless foes around. Though these villains are "bad guys" in children's stories, there's nothing innocent about the lengths they'll go to because of jealousy, greed, and madness.

We ranked the evilest Disney villains, ranking from least to most evil.

SEE ALSO: All 49 of Netflix's notable original movies, ranked from worst to best

Dr. Facilier/The Shadow Man

Many of Disney's villains employ some sort of dark magic to make life difficult for their victims, but the witch doctor Dr. Facilier, aka the Shadow Man from "The Princess and the Frog," had a little something extra in his arsenal: voodoo.

A charismatic, but cruel and power-hungry swindler, the Shadow Man is a conjurer and a sorcerer who uses his access to malevolent spirits — which he refers to as "friends on the other side"— to terrorize and threaten his victims.

The Shadow Man takes the #5 spot on our evilest Disney villain list for being able to put a spell on you, as well as call the undead on you, too.

Cruella de Vil

What's right up there as a hot-button issue with cruelty to humans? Animal cruelty, of course. Which is why Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmatians" is named our fourth evilest Disney villain.

Cruella de Vil is an eccentric, wealthy, chain-smoking fashionista who wants nothing more than a fabulous new coat made out of the fur of 99 Dalmatian puppies. Cruella, indeed. We think animal cruelty groups would agree.

Gaston

Gaston, Belle's self-proclaimed would-be husband in "Beauty and the Beast," is an arrogant, male chauvinist hunter. His determination to make Belle his wife — whether she wants to be or not — is just as awful as his determination to keep all other suitors away from her. Even if he has to kill them.

Gaston's jealousy and murderous intentions only grow stronger when he finds out that Belle only has eyes for a beast. If Belle were around today, she'd probably be justified in using the hashtag #metoo.

Gaston is our third evilest Disney villain for being a murderous, entitled, chauvinistic, harasser.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Bill Belichick's big-name coaching staff from his first Super Bowl

Tom Brady, Charlie Weiss, and Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots have won yet another AFC championship and will face the Philadelphia Eagles as they go for their second straight Super Bowl win and their sixth Lombardi Trophy in 17 years.

The two constants throughout the Patriots' dominance have been the ageless Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick and it all started in 2001. It was Brady and Belichick's second season together, they went 11-5, won the famous "tuck rule" game in the playoffs, and later beat the heavily favored St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl with an Adam Vinatieri field goal on the final play of the game.

In addition to some memorable players, Belichick's coaching staff was filled with some memorable names and several went on to become head coaches. Amazingly, they are all still in the NFL world and most are still coaching.

Below we look back at Belichick's first Super Bowl coaching staff and see what they are up to today.

Bill Belichick was in his second season as head coach of the Patriots after previously serving as head coach of the Browns. He was also head coach of the Jets for one day after Bill Parcells stepped down. Belichick later changed his mind and joined the Patriots.

Belichick is now in his 18th season as head coach of the Patriots. He has won eight AFC titles and is going for his sixth Super Bowl win.

Charlie Weis came with Belichick from the Jets to the Patriots in 2000 to be his offensive coordinator.

animated oscar movies

We're living in a golden age of animation.

Disney is making crowd-pleasing, critically acclaimed work from Pixar and the Disney Animation studio, independent studios are making gems like "Kubo and the Two Strings," and "The Boss Baby" is nominated for an Oscar.

But acclaim isn't always easy to get. Animated movies take years to make, and that effort is often under-recognized by institutions like critics groups and the Oscars. It wasn't until the creation of the best animated feature category in 2002 that the recognition first became regular. Before then, Disney just had to hope one of the songs in their musicals was nominated, or settle for a best animated short award. In other years, the Oscars totally ignored animated movies, so you'll see some gaps on this list.

To honor the animated movies that deserve acclaim, we looked back at the most Oscar-worthy animated films stretching back to 1990, when "The Little Mermaid" won a pair of Oscars and marked a renaissance period in Disney's animation studio. The history of the award is, in some ways, a history of Disney Animation during that time, from its rebirth in the 1990s, to its relationship with Pixar, to the CGI era we're living in now.

Here are the Oscar-winning movies from the last 28 years.

SEE ALSO: All 49 of Netflix's notable original movies, ranked from worst to best

1990: "The Little Mermaid" brought prestige back to Disney, which went on to dominate Oscars for animated movies. It won Oscars for best score and song.

After around two decades of mostly forgettable movies, Walt Disney Animation Studios produced "The Little Mermaid" to critical acclaim. It won the Oscar for best original score, and "Under the Sea" won for best original song.

1992: "Beauty and the Beast" broke Oscar records.

The movie was nominated for six Oscars, winning for best score and best original song, for the song "Beauty and the Beast.""Be Our Guest" and "Belle" were also nominated in the best song category.

The movie also received a best picture nomination, the first animated movie in history to do so, as well as one for best sound. It retains the title of the animated movie with the most Oscar nominations, tied with 2008's "Wall-E."

1993: "Aladdin" kept up Disney's streak.

The movie received the same awards as its predecessor, for best score and best song, honoring "A Whole New World."

"Friend Like Me" was also nominated in the song category, and the movie received nominations in the best sound and best sound effects editing categories.

FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe was forced to step down on Monday, after FBI Director Christopher Wray raised concerns about an upcoming Justice Department inspector general report examining McCabe's and other senior officials' actions during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump had been increasingly vocal about his criticism of McCabe before his ouster.

McCabe served as the acting FBI director for a period of time in 2017 after Trump fired James Comey from the position. He began his career at the FBI in 1996.

Omarosa Manigault

Omarosa Manigault, the director of communications for the White House's Office of Public Liaison, will have her official last day on January 20.

Trump fired Manigault twice on her two seasons appearing on his television show, "The Apprentice."

Tom Price

The secretary of health and human services had elicited bipartisan condemnation over the cost of his air travel — he had cost taxpayers more than $1 million between his use of private planes for domestic travel and military jets for recent trips to Africa, Europe, and Asia, Politico reported.

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here! Football fans across the country will be tuning in to see the New England Patriots take on the Philadelphia Eagles at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

While Minneapolis may be hosting the big game, it doesn't make the top 10 of the best cities for football fans, according to a new ranking.

WalletHub ranked the best and worst cities for football fans in the US. They compared 241 cities across 21 metrics, including the number of NFL and college football teams, average football game ticket prices and attendance, stadium capacity, and fan engagement (the number of Facebook and Twitter followers each team has), and gave each a total score out of 100.

They also created a "Pro Football" ranking out of 32 (the number of teams in the NFL), which was determined based on similar factors such as ticket prices, attendance, and stadium capacity, but also factored in metrics such as the number of NFL championship wins, head coaches in the Hall of Fame, and franchise value.

Here are the 30 best cities to show your team spirit.

Qatar Airways Boeing 777 interior

  • Ultra-long-haul flying is back with a vengeance thanks to new planes and cheap oil.
  • Qatar Airways, Qantas, and United have all recently launched new ultra-long-haul flights.

After the financial crisis all but wiped out ultra-long haul flying, the ultra-long-haul flying isn't just back, it's back with a vengeance.

The resurgence in these 8,000 to 9,000-mile marathon flights can be attributed to the availability of affordable oil and a new generation of fuel-efficient airliners like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350. In addition, the change in consumer preference in favor of non-stop point-to-point flying has helped drive this revival.

Last year, Qatar Airways launched the longest flight in the world between its home base in Doha, Qatar and Auckland, New Zealand. At Emirates, upgraded its flight from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to Auckland from a Boeing 777 to an Airbus A380. It's now the third longest flight in the world and longest operated by a superjumbo.

United has relaunched non-stop service from San Francisco to Singapore, one of the longest flights operated out of the US while Qantas is going non-stop between Perth in Western Australia and London.

There's so much going on in ultra-long-haul flying that Business Insider turned to air travel intelligence firm OAG for the authoritative list of the long flights in the world.

Here are the 10 longest flights in the world ranked:

I spent 2 weeks texting a bot about my anxiety — and found it to be surprisingly helpful

Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and it can kill. Yet scientists know surprisingly little about why it happens and how best to treat it.

We do know that talking seems to help — especially under the guidance of a licensed mental health professional. But therapy is expensive, inconvenient, and often hard to approach. A recent estimate suggests that of the roughly one in five Americans who have a mental illness, close to two-thirds have gone at least a year without treatment.

Several Silicon Valley-style approaches to the problem have emerged: There are apps that replace the traditional psychiatry office with texting, and chat rooms where you can discuss your problems anonymously online.

The newest of these tech-based treatments is Woebot, an artificially intelligent chatbot (and recently launched app) that uses the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT — one of the most heavily researched clinical approaches to treating depression.

I spent two weeks using the tool. Here's how it went.

SEE ALSO: A Stanford researcher is pioneering a dramatic shift in how we treat depression — and you can try her new tool right now

The first message appeared around 6 p.m., while I was on the bus. I cupped a hand around my phone and stole a furtive glance at the gray bubble on the screen.

Woebot, which is designed to help people cope with feelings of depression and anxiety, launched as a stand-alone iOS app earlier this month.

Trying it out was my latest jaunt into the new and mostly uncharted territory of digital mental-health care.

Alison Darcy, a clinical psychologist at Stanford University, created Woebot based on cognitive-behavioral therapy, which encourages people to examine how they react to challenging situations.

Woebot isn't a replacement for an in-person therapist, Darcy says, nor will it help you find one.

Instead, the tool is part of a widening array of approaches to mental health. It's fundamentally different from any other form of therapy.

In one of my first interactions with Woebot, I told it about a time I had felt nervous about not being good or smart enough.

Woebot pointed out that I was engaging in a common practice called distorted thinking.

Then it had me re-write the thought in terms that would better reflect reality. In reality, I felt "not good enough" because I was anxious about a presentation I was giving the next day.

10 actors who have publicly denounced Woody Allen or donated their salaries to charity after working on his movies

woody allen

As the #MeToo movement gained momentum in Hollywood following the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault allegations, Dylan Farrow asked pointedly in a Los Angeles Times op-ed in December, "Why has the #MeToo revolution spared Woody Allen?"

In 1993, Allen faced accusations that he had sexually abused Farrow, his then-seven-year-old adoptive daughter. Allen, who has continually denied the accusations, was investigated but never prosecuted.

But Farrow has long maintained that Allen sexually assaulted her, after she first discussed the issue publicly in a New York Times op-ed in 2014.

In her 2017 op-ed, Farrow asked why A-list actors like Kate Winslet, Blake Lively, and Greta Gerwig have continued to work with and praise Allen.

And in an interview with "CBS This Morning" earlier this month, Farrow described Allen's alleged sexual assault in disturbing detail, while calling on actors to to "acknowledge their complicity" in perpetuating Hollywood's "culture of silence."

Over the last few months, Farrow's words appear to have shifted to the tide against Allen, as a number of actors who starred in Allen's movies (including Gerwig, Rebecca Hall, and Colin Firth) have now either disavowed him or donated their salaries from his films to abuse victims charities.

Here are all the actors who have disavowed Woody Allen after working in his movies:

Griffin Newman

In October, before the LA Times published Farrow's op-ed, actor Griffin Newman said on Twitter that he regretted his "one-scene role" in Woody Allen's upcoming film, "A Rainy Day in New York," and would donate his salary from the film to RAINN (the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network).

"I need to get this off my chest: I worked on Woody Allen’s next movie. I believe he is guilty. I donated my entire salary to RAINN," Newman tweeted.

Newman said he "spent a month debating whether or not to quit" the movie, but decided to speak out following the "compounded" list of sexual misconduct allegations in the wake of Harvey Weinstein.

Rebecca Hall

Rebecca Hall, who starred in Allen's 2008 film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," said in an Instagram post earlier this month that she regretted her brief role in Allen's "A Rainy Day in New York," and would donate her salary from the part to Time's Up, a movement in solidarity with victims of sexual misconduct.

"After reading and re-reading Dylan Farrow’s statements of a few days ago and going back and reading the older ones — I see, not only how complicated this matter is, but that my actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed," Hall wrote in the post.

"I regret this decision and wouldn’t make the same one today. It’s a small gesture and not one intended as close to compensation but I’ve donated my wage to @timesup," she continued.

Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet, the breakout star of "Call Me by Your Name," said in an Instagram post earlier this month that he would donate his salary from "A Rainy Day In New York" to Time's Up, The LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN.

"I have been asked in a few recent interviews about my decision to work on a film with Woody Allen last summer. I am not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations," Chalamet wrote. "But what I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: TIME'S UP, The LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN."

"I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve," he continued.

9 hard truths about relationships no one wants to believe

$

couple smiling

Everyone knows relationships are hard, and take effort to maintain, and sometimes disappoint you.

Except, of course, your relationship. That's different. Or so everyone likes to believe.

Below, we've listed some of the truest but hardest-to-accept insights about modern romance. If you can get past these somewhat unsettling ideas, you'll be more likely to have a happy and fulfilling partnership.

SEE ALSO: Dr. Ruth has interviewed thousands of people about their sex lives — and she's found the biggest threat to a relationship happens outside the bedroom

We're often attracted to people who will later drive us crazy

While researching habits and personality for her book "The Four Tendencies," Gretchen Rubin noticed a curious phenomenon. People she'd labeled "rebels" often paired up romantically with people she'd labeled "obligers."

Rebels resist both inner and outer expectations; if you ask a rebel to do something, they'll likely resist. Obligers meet outer expectations but don't always meet inner ones; they usually need some form of external accountability.

Rubin told Business Insider:

"If you're an upholder, you live life according to a schedule. [For example] you never miss your daily run, and you always eat fewer than 30 grams of carbs a day, and you always go to bed by 11. It could be exciting be swept off your feet by somebody who feels very free and not confined."

But over time, the novelty may wear off and these two different approaches can come into conflict. To be sure, rebels and obligers — and any two types of people — can be happy together. But it's worth keeping this pattern in mind.

There's probably no such thing as 'the one'

Out of the thousands of eligible singles just waiting for a swipe right, how do you know who's the right one for you?

Trick question: There isn't a right one.

That's according to Esther Perel, who is a couples therapist as well as the author of "Mating in Captivity" and "The State of Affairs." Perel previously told Business Insider: "There is a one that you choose and with whom you decide that you want to build something. But in my opinion, there could also have been others — you just chose this one."

Once you've chosen someone, you work to make that person a better fit.

You may be less likely to break up with your partner if you have a pet or a joint bank account

Psychologists call them "material constraints": Think a house you co-own, a joint bank account, or a pet you both take care of.

Research suggests that material constraints make a breakup a lot less likely. In fact, according to a 2011 study of unmarried men and women in heterosexual relationships, adding just one additional material constraint is linked to a 10% increase in a couple's chances of staying together.

Presumably, that's because it's harder to disentangle yourself from the relationship when it's not just the two of you. So it's wise — if slightly uncomfortable — to think in advance about what you'd do if the relationship dissolved.

15 behind-the-scenes secrets from the 'Harry Potter' movies all true fans should know

harry potter epilogue

  • While the cast of "Harry Potter" maintains a near-perfect facade, there are instances of drama and plenty of secrets that happened behind the scenes.
  • Helena Bonham Carter both accidentally injured Mathew Lewis and had a feud with co-star Emma Thompson.
  • While filming, Alan Rickman had a BMW he would not let anyone touch.
  • Harry Potter was almost green-eyed and Hermione was almost buck-toothed—the cast was also almost all American.

The Harry Potter movies were being filmed for over ten years, and during that time, we were treated to tons of behind the scenes footage of our favorite cast members messing around and generally being adorable on set. From what we saw, everyone on set, cast and crew alike, got along.

That said, ever since the last movie was released, a number of fascinating stories have surfaced about some of the antics that went on off camera. Since this is a near-perfect and closely-knit cast, most of the drama was on the light side, but there were some moments that teetered on the edge of disaster.

While the movies came out years ago, the Harry Potter fandom is the gift that keeps on giving with the opening of several Wizarding World theme parks and the release of The Cursed Child over a year ago, as well as the Fantastic Beasts movies.

Since the Harry Potter fandom is still alive and well, those involved with the production of the Harry Potter films always have new behind-the-scenes tidbits to share with the fans– and we’re here to eat it all up – the good and the bad.

With that said, here are the 15 Secrets You Didn’t Know Behind The Making Of "Harry Potter."

Daniel Radcliffe was reportedly drunk on set

Imagine being cast in a big franchise movie at the age of eleven and being thrust under the spotlight for over a decade. The amount of scrutiny that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint faced during their years filming the Harry Potter movies was enormous, but no one faced more scrutiny and pressure than the star of the film.

Any time that Radcliffe did anything that was considered even the tiniest bit “problematic” or “too adult” for an actor portraying the hero of a children’s story, his name was splashed across every tabloid.

According to Radcliffe, the constant spotlight was what drove him to drink. Drinking was a coping mechanism, and although he never drank on set, he admitted to being drunk on set several times.

Steven Spielberg turned down directing "The Sorcerer's Stone"

While most fans agree that the casting choices for Harry Potter were nearly perfect, some fans had issues with a number of the directors chosen to helm the movies over the years.

One director who was initially approached to direct the first movie was Steven Spielberg He spent several months developing the film and even considered making it an animated series, but ultimately he chose to drop out of production.

Spielberg said that doing Harry Potter would have been like “shooting ducks in a barrel” since it was a guaranteed hit. He explained that he wanted to work on a project that was more challenging and one that touched him in some way. He went on to direct A.I. starring Haley Joel Osment instead.

There was some bad blood between Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson

In the early ’90s, Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh were a heavy-hitting power couple. The two split after six years of marriage when Thompson learned that Branagh and Helena Bonham Carter were having an affair.

Apparently, the two began their affair on the set of  Mary Shelley’s 1994 Frankenstein – Thompson and Branagh divorced the following year.

While there was originally some bad blood between the two actresses, Thompson shared that the two had “made [their] peace years and years ago,” so it would be safe to assume that there was no on-set drama between the two of them.

She also said that, upon reflection, she could see why Branagh loved both of them, as the two women are “slightly mad and a bit fashion-challenged.”

winona ryder then and now heathers and stranger things 2 red carpet

It has been 30 years since "Heathers" was released in theaters and became a cult classic film. The original "Heathers" cast was led by Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty. Now, the 1988 movie is getting a fresh take with a new generation of Heathers.

In honor of "Heathers" turning 30 this year and the upcoming TV show reboot, keep reading for a look back at the movie cast and where they are now.

In "Heathers," Winona Ryder starred as Veronica Sawyer.

Ryder's character was a teenager who spent her time furiously jotting notes in a dairy and dreaming of a world without Heather Chandler (until her wish came true). By the end, she became "the new sheriff in town."

Fans can currently catch Ryder starring as Joyce Byers on "Stranger Things," Netflix's popular series that has completed two seasons.

You may also know her from other notable films, including "Edward Scissorhands,""The Crucible," and "Girl, Interrupted."

Christian Slater played Jason Dean (also known as J.D.), the school's problematic and aggressive student.

J.D. was a dangerous person who purposely concocted a toxic hangover cure for Heather Chandler that killed her. This was followed by murdering other popular kids at school, building a bomb, and attempting to blow up the school. In the end, he attached the bomb to himself, blew up, and set Sawyer free.

10 surprising ways that ordering fast food is different around the world

eating hamburger

In 2013, The Guardian reported that 120 countries worldwide had a McDonald's, a number few travelers should find surprising. In the face of increased globalization, it can feel like the fast food world has reached all corners of the globe — although Antarctica does still remain untouched.

Although fast food may be readily available throughout the world, the culture surrounding it can differ immensely. Here are just a few examples of how fast food is different in other countries.

Japan eats KFC on Christmas.

Every year an estimated 3.6 million Japanese households celebrate Christmas with a feast from KFC, according to the BBC. It's common for orders to be placed weeks in advance or for customers to have to face hours in line on that day.

It all started when the first KFC opened in Japan in 1970 with Takeshi Okawara as manager. A few months after opening Okawara had the idea to sell a Christmas party barrel based on the elaborate American Thanksgiving meal. In 1974 the idea was released nationally, dubbed "Kentucky For Christmas." Following the success of this idea, Okawara went on to be CEO of Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan.

Some McDonald's locations can be very fancy in other parts of the world.

When my family and I went to Paris, my brother insisted on getting food from a McDonald's. Housed in a beautiful building near Versailles, I was amazed at how pretty the McDonald's was compared to the ones I had been to in the United States.

As I traveled around Europe, I consciously took note of other locations and found that many were of a similar standard.

In Australia, Burger King is called Hungry Jack's.

In 1971, Burger King teamed up with Australian businessman Jack Cowin to launch Burger King in Australia. Unfortunately, they soon discovered that an American had opened his own restaurant called Burger King in Australia, as the name had not been trademarked there.

They decided to name the Australian locations "Hungry Jack's." While Cowin now owns the Burger King trademark in Australia, the name Hungry Jack's remains.

Just before the end of January 1968, South Vietnam's communist guerilla force, the Viet Cong (VC), launched an unprecedented offensive in coordination with the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) that would change the course of the Vietnam War.

The Tet Offensive saw the VC and the NVA attack all of South Vietnam's largest towns and cities — bringing a war that had been mostly confined to the countryside into the streets of metropolitan cities.

With a combined force of 85,000 soldiers and guerrillas, the objective was to take over the cities, destroy political and military targets, and provoke a popular uprising all over South Vietnam.

The offensive would be a battlefield failure for the communists; the general uprising they had hoped to provoke didn't happen, they didn't hold on to a single town or city that was seized, and the Viet Cong was effectively wiped out as an independent fighting force.

But it would prove to be a political and propaganda victory. American and international news crews had broadcasted the shocking images and scenes from the war right into the living rooms of the US. They were a stark contrast to what they had been told; that the Communists were losing, and the war could be over soon.

Public opinion began to change, and attitudes towards the war became negative. Here's what happened during the Tet Offensive:

Before January of 1968, the war was mostly confined to the countryside. The Communists would take the war right into Vietnam's major towns and cities.

The NVA and Viet Cong took advantage of the Tet Lunar New Year, a major holiday in Vietnam that had always had a traditional truce and suspension of hostilities.

As a result, the South Vietnamese military (ARVN) were not prepared for such a huge onslaught. The attacks gave the impression that the communists were far stronger than the American public had been told.

Equipment from the Ho Chi Minh Trail was stored in underground tunnels and bunkers like this one, before being smuggled into South Vietnam's cities.

The NVA and VC had moved hundreds of tons of weapons, ammunition, and supplies through the Ho Chi Minh Trail into South Vietnam.

The trail started in North Vietnam, went through Laos and Cambodia, and had numerous entrances all along South Vietnam's border with Cambodia.

One of the first targets the VC and NVA attacked was Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam.

An attack on the capital city of Saigon was an extremely bold move that proved the VC and NVA were not "losing" the war.

The VC and NVA attacked General William Westmoreland's headquarters, the Presidential Palace, and the American Embassy.

A woman tried (unsuccessfully) to bring a peacock onto a United flight recently, reportedly claiming that it was an emotional support animal, which would allow the animal to fly for free.

But if you thought this was the strangest animal someone has tried to bring on board an airplane, you might be wrong.

United would not let the peacock onto its flight, saying that the animal did not meet the airline's guidelines.

And, it turns out, fake emotional support animals have been such a problem for airlines that Delta has had to be quite specific about what animals are not allowed on a flight.

Still, that's not to say people haven't tried.

Here are some of the strangest animals people have attempted (successfully or not) to bring on planes:

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? The 6 quarterbacks taken before Tom Brady in the 2000 NFL Draft

Tom Brady is back in a familiar setting: the Super Bowl.

On Sunday, Brady will play in his eighth career Super Bowl, and his third in four years, something most probably would have seen when Brady was drafted 18 years ago.

Brady's amazing career began in April 2000, when the Patriots famously rolled the dice and drafted the Michigan quarterback in the sixth round with the 199th pick overall. New England made the move despite Brady being thoroughly unimpressive at the NFL combine.

Six other teams drafted quarterbacks before the Patriots chose Brady. Here's a look at what happened to those other quarterbacks.

The Jets used the 18th pick on Marshall University quarterback Chad Pennington.

Pennington played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Jets and Dolphins, earning $51 million in his career.

He now runs the 1st and 10 Foundation with his wife and is a director for NFL Legends Community.

The 49ers drafted Hofstra's Giovanni Carmazzi in the third round with the 65th pick overall.

Dark mode iOS 11

Apple's big software update for iPhones and iPads may not be available until much later in the year, but reports already indicate there may not be major feature additions and overhauls for iOS 12.

Instead, Apple is expected to focus on security and performance improvements in iOS 12, according to Axios. Many of the major feature additions and upgrades Apple had planned may be delayed until 2019.

Here's what we know about iOS 12 so far:

SEE ALSO: The 13 most useful new features in iOS 11

iOS 11 was plagued by a number of security issues and other bugs, which made users consider reverting back to an older software version

Some of the software bugs in the first public version of iOS 11 included issues with AirPlay, Touch ID, Face ID, and device touchscreens. Users also reported battery drain, lag, and bugs within Siri and other stock apps.

Apple devices were also among those affected by the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities, which were discovered in early January.

Though Apple sent out patch updates to address the security flaws, iOS 12 will likely focus on other underlying causes of such security issues on iOS software.

Apple was also caught intentionally limiting the battery power of older iPhone models

Recently, Apple also confirmed that it had intentionally been limiting the battery power on certain iPhone models in an effort to keep the devices from failing after extended use. Though Apple has offered those who own an iPhone 6 or older, battery replacements for $29improving battery performance will likely be another a major focus on iOS 12.

Apple reportedly had many feature updates planned for iOS 12, but it sounds like those features may not make it until 2019.

According to Axios, Apple has been working on updates to the iOS home screen and its in-car user interface known as CarPlay. The report also said Apple may overhaul vital stock apps such as Mail, as well as its photo capturing, editing and sharing features.

However, with Apple focusing on security and performance improvements, some of these features may not be available on iOS until 2019.
