Nothing to do this weekend except scroll through Netflix's wide selection of movies for hours on end?

We're here to help. Every week, we look through what's available on the streaming service and recommend seven movies you can watch over the weekend.

Some of our selections recently came to Netflix, and some have been available for while — you probably just missed them.

From the animated classic "The Prince of Egypt" to lush 90s drama "Interview with the Vampire," these are some awesome movies on Netflix you can watch this weekend.

Here are seven movies on Netflix you should check out (along with their scores from Rotten Tomatoes).

Note: Not all of these films are available in countries outside the United States. Sorry!

SEE ALSO: This chart shows Netflix's dramatic growth in Emmy noms since 2012, from 0 to beating HBO as the top network

"Get Smart" (2008)

Netflix description: When the identities of secret agents are compromised, hapless Maxwell Smart teams with far more capable Agent 99 to thwart an evil terrorist group.

Critic score: 50%

Audience score: 67%

"Get Smart" got a lost in the massive summer movie collection, and mostly because it relied on Steve Carell to carry the entire movie. But the thing is that Carell can carry a comedy like this, so it's still pretty good, and features some fun performances from Anne Hathaway, Terry Crews, and a very funny Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

"The Prince of Egypt" (1998)

Netflix description: Born into slavery but raised as the son of a pharaoh, Moses accepts his destiny: to lead the Hebrews out of slavery and into freedom.

Critic score: 79%

Audience score: 76%

It's unfortunate that this beautifully animated film with catchy songs was white-washed by Hollywood. But it's still such a great movie that the whole family can watch and will definitely enjoy.

"Can't Buy Me Love" (1987)

Netflix description: Tired of being an outcast, a nerdy teen offers his life savings of $1,000 to the most popular girl in school in exchange for dating him for a month.

Critic score: 50%

Audience score: 74%

This 80s comedy with a very outdated premise is brought to life by the always and forever charming Patrick Dempsey.

Blockbuster Bend Yelp

  • Blockbuster is almost down to a single location in the entire United States: a shop in Bend, Oregon.
  • On Thursday, Blockbuster announced that the final two locations in Alaska would close next week.
  • The Bend, Oregon location is both beloved by locals and a hot spot for nostalgic tourists eager to see the last Blockbuster in America.

Blockbuster's last stand in the United States is in Bend, Oregon.

On Thursday, Blockbuster Alaska announced that the last two stores in the state would be closing up shop next week. That will leave just one remaining Blockbuster location in the entire United States.

The holdout is in Bend, a city in central Oregon with an estimated population just shy of 100,000. As the final Blockbuster locations across the US have finally closed up shop — with two other Blockbusters in Oregon closing in recent months — travelers have begun making their way to Bend in a nostalgic pilgrimage to the video rental chain.

For Blockbuster lovers desperately missing the store and for video-rental virgins raised on Netflix, here's what it's like to visit the last remaining Blockbuster in the US:

5 signs you're a highly-empathetic person

$

couple talking

Do you tend to feel like you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders from time to time? Do you find you're sensitive in most, if not all situations? Are your feelings hurt easily? If these things are true for you, you may be more empathetic than most other people.

Here are a few surefire ways you can tell that you are more in touch with others' feelings than most people are.

You’re a giver, and sometimes you give too much.

Most empathetic people feel like they’ll never be able to give enough to those they love. They will continue to give even beyond their own means.

"Empaths are big-hearted people and try to relieve the pain of others: a homeless person holding a cardboard ‘I'm hungry’ sign at a busy intersection, a hurt child, a distraught friend," Judith Orloff M.D. wrote for Psychology Today. "But empaths don't stop there. Instead, they take it on—suddenly they're the one feeling drained or upset when they felt fine before."

You’re highly intuitive and absorb others’ emotions.

It’s not easy for you to ignore the emotions of those around you. If a friend of yours is upset, or a family member seems off, you are disturbed by and absorb their emotions. And you feel the need to fix them. On the flip side, when you’re around positive emotions and uplifted spirits, you feed off of them, and that’s when you flourish.

People seek you out for help when they need someone to listen.

You’re the designated confidant to your friends and family, and everyone has always told you that you give “good advice.” That’s because you have an ability to read people and their needs, and that may not stop at friends — it could happen with strangers too. However, this innate ability can be exhausting. Because you can’t carry or fix the problems of everyone who seeks help from you.

"Don’t attempt to take on responsibilities that are not yours," Amy Schaeffer wrote for Inquisitr. “Empaths want to help, but many people cannot be helped or must make a decision to help themselves first. Draw a mental line at when and where you will stop assisting someone and stick to it."

10 signs someone is about to break up with you

new girl jess nick

Breakups can be really difficult, no matter if you’re the one who’s doing the breaking up or you’re the one who's being broken up with. But if you’re the one who's (unfortunately) being broken up with, you might wish that you'd known that this is how it would end all along.

As it turns out, there might actually have been some signs that your partner was planning to break up with you before the breakup actually happened — some are obvious, while others are super subtle. If you notice these signs in your relationship, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s a breakup coming, but they could, potentially, mean that your partner might be getting read to suggest a break.

1. They’ll tell you things more selectively.

When your partner is getting ready to break up with you, information doesn’t get shared in the same way. You no longer talk about things in the same way because the connection that you used to have just isn’t the same.

"When your partner is not interested in telling you about important life events, the intimacy begins to fade,"Dr. Kia James, EdD, LCPC, a licensed therapist and relationship expert, told INSIDER. "The less they share about their life, the more the wall begins to divide the two of you."

Rather than pretending that everything is fine, James suggested that you force the topic.

"You should not ignore the distance," James said. "Tell your partner that you miss the connection between the two of you. Say you would like to work on and improve the relationship. Then you should begin planning to spend more time doing enjoyable and engaging activities together."

2. They’ll hesitate when you suggest making plans in advance or when talking about your future.

If your partner no longer feels comfortable making long-term plans or talking at all about your future, particularly if they used to be OK with these kinds of things, that’s likely not a great sign.

Dr. Kristie Overstreet PhD, LPCC, LMHC, LPC, CST, CAP, a psychotherapist, told INSIDER that this can be a sign that a breakup is looming, but it’s important to talk to your partner more about your concerns.

"It's important to not jump to conclusions and react without talking with your partner first," Overstreet said. "There may be other factors that are leading to these red flags. If you have a conversation with your partner and find out that they are wanting to end the relationship, then listen to what they are telling you. If they want to be in a relationship with you then they won't create reasons to distance themselves."

3. They say that marriage isn’t for them, but it is for you.

"If your partner says that they don't want marriage, listen to what they are saying," Stefanie Safran, a matchmaker, relationship expert, and owner of Stef and the City, told INSIDER. "Just to assume that because their family likes you, you've dated for years or you move in together, does not mean they are looking for something permanent."

If you know that you want to be married someday and your partner tells you that it’s a no-go for them, you’ll be better off in the long-run if you believe what they’re telling you. Don’t think that you’ll be able to change their mind or that the problem will go away if you just ignore that it’s there. Listen when they say that it’s not for them.

The best streaming sticks and boxes you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

streaming4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • A media streaming device can transform your so-called dumb TV into a smart one that plays shows and movies from Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Prime Video, and other streaming services.

  • The best of the bunch is the Roku Ultra with its easy-to-use interface, 4K video streaming, voice control, and simple remote.

  • Amazon Prime Day 2018 will begin at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, July 16 and will run through Tuesday, July 17. Many of our picks may be on sale. Sign up for a 30-day free trial of Prime here to access the deals.

The world is changing. Gone are the days when a cable subscription was necessary to watch all the latest and greatest TV shows. These days, the best TV shows are coming out on streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Of course, the best way to take advantage of services like Netflix is by streaming shows straight to your TV.

There are plenty of streaming devices out there to help you connect the latest and greatest video streaming services to your TV, and they’re not all created equal. Before buying, you’ll want to consider a few different things.

For starters, you’ll want to think about whether you want a fully-fledged streaming box, which comes complete with its own operating system and allows you to download and install apps. The alternative is a device like the Google Chromecast, which basically streams content from your phone or computer. With a streaming stick, instead of installing Netflix on your TV-connected device, you’ll install it on your phone or computer and then stream from your phone to the streaming stick, which is plugged into your TV's HDMI port.

Next up you’ll want to keep in mind the specs of your TV. Not all streaming sticks and boxes are able to handle 4K content, so if you have a 4K TV, you’ll want to get one that can stream 4K videos. Last but not least, it might be worth considering the ecosystem you’re most plugged into. For example, Android users might be able to get more use from an Android TV device, while those using an iPhone and Mac might prefer the Apple TV.

We've done the research to find the best streaming sticks and boxes to turn your dumb TV into a smart one that can access videos from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and more.

Here are our top picks for the best streaming sticks:

Updated on 07/13/2018 by Malarie Gokey: Added notes on Amazon's other Fire TV options as well as Roku's lineup. Updated prices and formatting.

Read on in the slides below to check out our top picks.

The best streaming box overall

Why you'll love it: The Roku Ultra streams in 4K and HDR, has voice search, comes with a remote control, and costs just $70.

Roku's Ultra is more streaming box than most people need. It supports 4K video at 60 frames per second and HDR content for just $99. If you have a 4K TV, this is the streaming device you want. We tested it and were deeply impressed by the quality.

Roku may not necessarily be linked to your Google or Apple account, but it can still connect to all the streaming services you enjoy. You’ll be able to install Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Now, and more using Roku's operating system. Just connect the box to your TV via the HDMI port, and connect all your favorite streaming services to get started.

As mentioned, the device also supports HDR, which basically means that it’ll show richer colors and better contrast, which is always a good thing for TV lovers. The device even supports 4K video at 60 frames per second, which is something most media streaming devices don’t currently support.

Of course, to take advantage of that 4K content, you’ll need a decent connection. Thankfully the device can connect to your internet through Ethernet or over Wi-Fi.

The Ultra also comes with a remote control so you can adjust the volume, turn on your TV, and search for content with your voice.

The Roku Ultra is perfect for most people with a 4K TV. And for $70, it's a steal. Expert reviewers give the Ultra high marks.

Pros: 4K and HDR streaming, affordable, good remote, lots of apps, improved Wi-Fi connection, Ethernet, microSD port

Cons: Pricey

Buy the Roku Ultra on Amazon for $89

The best Chromecast

Why you'll love it: The Google Chromecast Ultra is quick to set up, easy-to-use and works great, but best of all, it costs just $50.

The Google Chromecast is arguably the original streaming stick, and it’s loved around the world for its simplicity and excellent price. The Chromecast Ultra is different than many of the other devices on this list, largely because it’s built solely to stream content from your phone or computer to your TV. That means there’s no user interface, no apps to install — nothing. Just find the content on your phone and hit the “Cast” button.

Chromecast was first introduced a few years back, and it has gone through a couple of updates since then. Now, the flagship Chromecast is the Chromecast Ultra, which sets itself apart from other Chromecasts with its ability to handle 4K streaming, which is a pretty big deal. You’ll need a good internet connection, though.

One of the great things about the Chromecast Ultra is that it interacts with your other Google devices. For example, you can tell a Google Home speaker to search videos on YouTube or play music on your TV through the Chromecast.

Then there’s the affordable price. The Chromecast Ultra costs just $50 (originally $70) — a price many reviewers, including us, love. TechRadar gave the Chromecast Ultra 4/5, while Pocket-Lint went a step further with a 4.5/5 star review.

Pros: Inexpensive,easy-to-use, works with smart speakers

Cons: No interface might frustrate some

Buy the Google Chromecast Ultra at Walmart for $49 (originally $69.00)

The best Amazon Fire TV

Why you'll love it: The new Amazon Fire TV streams video in 4K straight to your TV for $70.

Amazon recently launched a brand-new Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD and HDR support. This slim dongle plugs into the HDMI port in the back of your TV and comes with a remote control for easy access to play, pause, stop, volume up/down, and more.

Fire TV works with Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Hulu, HBO, and many other video streaming apps. You can download all your favorite apps on it to play shows on SlingTV, PBS, and more. Since it's part of Amazon's ecosystem, Fire TV works with Alexa voice controls. You can tell your TV to play "Game of Thrones" without lifting a finger.

The streaming stick has a faster processor and 802.11ac Wi-Fi to ensure smooth streaming on your TV without any annoying glitches. So long as your Wi-Fi is good, you shouldn't have a problem.

If you're a Prime subscriber and an Echo fan who needs a streaming stick, it's a great buy.  Expert reviewers from The Verge, CNET, TechRadar, and Engadget gave it high marks as an affordable, 4K streaming option.

All of the reviewers more or less agreed that Alexa voice search works well and it's very affordable for a 4K streaming stick. The only downside is the current lack of 4K content, but if that's what you're really looking for, you'll have to pay more and grab an Apple TV.

The Fire TV Stick is a good option that costs even less at $40, but it doesn't support 4K or HDR 10. Amazon's new Fire TV Cube is the most expensive of the bunch, coming in at $119.99. It uses voice control, has more storage onboard, and includes a small speaker.

Pros: 4K streaming, Alexa voice control, affordable, easy to use

Cons: Pricier than budget sticks

Buy the Amazon Fire TV on Amazon for $69.99

The best electric toothbrushes you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

toothbrush 4x3

The Insider Pick:

You’ve probably heard the saying, “You only need to brush and floss the teeth you want to keep.” While the words are undeniably tongue-in-cheek, there’s considerable truth to them. Proper oral care, which includes twice-daily brushing and once-daily flossing, is critical if you want to hang onto your choppers well into old age.

Do you really need an electric toothbrush?

Most dentists agree that a properly wielded manual toothbrush can do nearly as good a job as an electric toothbrush. The problem, however, comes with the “properly wielded” part. Most people fail to brush the full recommended two minutes, don’t carefully work the brush around the entire set of teeth and the gum line, and don’t brush gently and yet with speed. By contrast, a good electric toothbrush:

  • Oscillates or strokes thousands – even tens of thousands – of times per minute, as compared to the typical 300 strokes per minute when brushing manually
  • Removes more plaque than a manual toothbrush
  • Has a signal or timer of some type to motivate longer brushing
  • Is easier for people with arthritis or other hand weaknesses to use
  • Is likelier to reduce gum disease than a manual toothbrush

We want you to keep your teeth healthy and strong for a lifetime. That’s why we’ve done the research to bring you five electric toothbrushes that we feel are the best choices for the most people. We visited the top consumer websites, listened to actual product owners, and considered advice from dentists and dental hygienists when making our decisions. So go ahead and break out your favorite toothpaste. Healthy, clean white teeth are on their way.

Here are our top picks for the best electric toothbrushes:

Updated on 07/13/2018 by Malarie Gokey: Added the Goby toothbrush and links to more oral health buying guides.

The best electric toothbrush overall

Why you'll love it: The Oral-B Pro 1000 is the best electric toothbrush because it's budget-friendly, highly effective, and compatible with a wide range of replacement brush heads.

The Oral-B Pro 1000 is a no-frills electric toothbrush, but it gets the job done, and it gets it done well. It comes with a CrossAction brush head that reaches into every nook and cranny between and within your teeth to scour away up to 300 percent more plaque than a manual toothbrush would remove.

If you prefer another type of brush head, however, there are plenty to choose from; the Oral-B Pro 1000 is compatible with nine different Oral-B heads, including whitening, sensitive, extra gum line cleaning, deep clean, orthodontics care, and floss action. Just twist and pull to switch out the brush head.

The toothbrush handle has an easily accessed on/off button, and the brush vibrates gently every 30 seconds to let you know it’s time to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth. The sections include the inside of upper teeth, outside of upper teeth, inside of lower teeth, and outside of lower teeth. Press too hard, and the toothbrush will stop rotating – overly vigorous tooth brushing is a major cause of gum irritation. When you let up the pressure, the brush will automatically begin to spin once again.

The Sweethome chose the Oral-B Pro 1000 as their top-pick electric toothbrush, and Health.com also selected this electric toothbrush as its number-one choice.

On Amazon, the Oral-B Pro 1000 is one of the best-selling electric toothbrushes, with nearly 5,500 reviews and an average of 4.4 stars. Buyers like the brush’s simplicity, its effectiveness, and its reasonable price. Many also appreciate being able to swap out the brush head for one that better suits their needs.

Expect to recharge the Oral-B Pro 1000 about once per week. You’ll see a flashing red light when the battery is getting low. The recharging base is very small, so there's no need to clear much counter space.

Pros: Great price, effective at removing plaque, many types of compatible brush heads

Cons: Not as fast or as powerful as some newer electric toothbrushes

Buy the Oral-B Pro 1000 on Amazon for $49.80 (originally $65.99)

The best electric toothbrush that does it all

Why you'll love it: The Waterpik Complete Care Water Flosser and Sonic Toothbrush comes with a great electric toothbrush and a water flosser.

Regular flossing with string is effective, but water flossing gets the job done even more effectively — blasting between teeth, beneath the gum line, and into all the nooks and crannies of your back molars to remove sticky plaque, food bits, and bacteria. Waterpik has always been the top name in water flossers, but now the company has ingeniously combined a water flosser and an electric toothbrush in one convenient package. Just one cord to plug in and your toothbrush charges right on the water flosser’s stand.

You’ll get a Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush, which uses sonic technology to remove plaque from your gums and teeth. The brush has two speeds, a two-minute timer, and soft bristles that clean your teeth very effectively without irritating your gums. The kit includes a standard brush head and a compact brush head for precision cleaning.

The water flosser’s reservoir holds 90+ seconds-worth of water, and you can add a bit of mouthwash if you’d like for extra breath freshening. The flosser’s tip delivers a thin, powerful stream of water that painlessly and effectively blasts away plaque and debris not just from between your teeth, but also from beneath your gum line where string floss won’t reach. You can set the water pressure to your liking, and choose between five different types of tip.

Amazon buyers are very enthusiastic about the Waterpik Complete Care. It has more than 5,200 reviews and an average of 4.4 stars. While many users comment that it takes a bit of practice to learn how to use a water flosser without drenching your entire bathroom, most feel the device leaves their teeth and gums very healthy and clean.

A typical comment, “Best dental hygiene purchase I have ever made. My teeth look and feel better than ever. Cannot recommend this enough.”

On the downside, quite a few buyers say the water flosser is loud.

Pros: Doesn’t take up much counter space, superior to string floss, toothbrush is always charged and ready to go, reasonable price

Cons: Water flosser is loud, potential for getting your bathroom wet

Buy the Waterpik Complete Care Water Flosser and Sonic Toothbrush on Amazon for $77.38 (originally $99.99)

The best electric toothbrush for kids

Why you'll love it: Getting your children to brush properly twice per day can be a struggle, but with the fun Philips Sonicare for Kids, they might actually beg to brush their teeth.

Kids and good oral hygiene is typically not a natural combo. Most kids are either reluctant to brush or do a poor job at cleaning their teeth. The Philips Sonicare for Kids makes brushing fun, however, turning a routine task almost into a video game, thanks to the free Bluetooth-compatible app that encourages and rewards good brushing techniques.

Like all Sonicare toothbrushes, the kids’ brush uses patented sonic technology for up to 75% more effective removal of plaque and debris than a manual toothbrush. It has a built-in two-minute timer and alerts the child to switch quadrants every 30 seconds while brushing. There are two speed settings, and the brush comes with eight stickers to customize the handle.

But where the fun really starts is with the free app that not only teaches kids about the whys and hows of good oral hygiene, it also turns brushing into a game. Your child will get to adopt a “Sparkly,” a cute little creature that gives brushing tips while your child “brushes” the Sparkly’s teeth. The app also tracks performance, making it easy to reward good hygiene. Just set your smartphone or tablet where your child can watch while brushing.

With nearly 1,000 reviews on Amazon and an average of 4.6 stars, there are definitely a lot of happy parents and kids out there brushing with the Philips Sonicare for Kids. Over and over, buyers comment that their kids went from brushing-resistant to actually wanting to brush their teeth. Many state that their child’s dental appointments are much, much better since switching to the kid’s Sonicare.

Says one pleased parent, “My 2.5-year-old began brushing happily and thoroughly every night just so he can see his "Sparkly" monster get a present. He is so excited and he used to dread brushing.”

The Philips Sonicare for Kids is recommended for ages three and up if the child is using the brush on their own. Younger children should have assistance from mom or dad, however.

Pros: App makes brushing fun, brush head is sized for children’s mouths, very effective at removing plaque and debris from teeth and gum line

Cons: None to speak of, although your child will eventually outgrow the cutesy app

Buy the Philips Sonicare for Kids on Amazon for $39.95 (originally $49.99)

Here's how to sleep well on a hot summer night if you don't have air conditioning

air conditioning

As summer heats up many of us are turning on our air conditioning for a more comfortable night's sleep ... but if your building isn’t equipped with central AC or your landlord has banned AC units, this puts you in a tricky position as the summer temperatures continue to rise.

So what can you do to fall asleep at night in an AC-free zone? INSIDER collected five useful tips to keep you cooled down during those dog nights of summer.

Trade in your regular pillows for cooling foam versions.

Because a lower physical temperature naturally promotes sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation, taking steps to bring down your body heat improves your summertime slumber. If you want to cool down quickly, it helps to start with the point between your skull and your neck, which contains the part of the brain responsible for sensing and managing body temperature.

If you want to keep your neck cool and supported overnight, a cooling foam pillow provides an easy solution. Versions stuffed with foam and gel can be found from brands like Tempur-Pedic ($170) or, for a more budget-friendly option, from Therapedic ($50).

Seek out sheet sets made from light and airy fabrics.

When it’s hot outside (and inside, due to your lack of an AC unit), sheets made from heavier fabrics like Tencel, polyester, and even certain cottons only add to the sweat-inducing conditions of your bedroom. To promote good air flow and keep you from overheating, you’ll want to invest in a set of super-breathable sheets designed for warm climates. Linen sheets accomplish this task well, and if you don’t want to shell out for an all-linen set (which can cost well over 100 bucks), linen-blend sheets can be found for under $60.

Egyptian cotton becomes a natural choice for sheets when temperatures reach into the 90s and 100s. This particular type of bedding fetches high prices, but Jet can get you started with an under-$60 set.

Don’t forget to keep water by your bed.

Dehydration makes it hard to regulate body temperature, J. Timothy Lightfoot, PhD, director of the Huffines Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance at Texas A&M University, told Prevention, a principle that holds just as true overnight as it does during your daytime workout sessions.

If you feel uncomfortably warm as you’re nodding off, a few sips of water can help release stored heat inside your body and bring you some much-needed relief. On especially steamy summer nights, you’ll want to keep a pitcher of cold water and a glass on your bedside table, so you’re ready for an impromptu cool-down.

Critics love 'Mission: Impossible – Fallout' as much as Tom Cruise loves outrageous stunts

mission impossible 6 fallout henry cavill angela bassett

Critics can't stop gushing over "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," which comes to theaters July 27.

"Fallout" is the sixth film in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, which started with its first film in 1996, and stars Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. "Fallout" also stars Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Cavill (with the famous mustache that had to be edited out of "Justice League").

Right now, "Fallout" has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tom Cruise has definitely come a long way since last year's disastrous "The Mummy" remake that was so unsuccessful Universal canceled its Dark Universe movies series. "Fallout's" intense, non-stop action that's comparable to 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road" makes an otherwise silly premise and long running time (it's two and a half hours) totally worth it. Some critics have even said it's one of the best action movies of all time, and certainly one of (if not the) best action movies of the year.

Here's what critics are saying about "Mission: Impossible - Fallout":

SEE ALSO: Tom Cruise defies age and gravity in 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout,' the best action movie you'll see this year

"The thriller version of comfort film. It's something we can return to with complete confidence in what we're getting into."

Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"To say that 'Fallout' is a great action movie purely in relation to others would be unfair. The action sequences are truly fantastic, and include a breathtaking car-chase through Paris, a helicopter chase over the mountains on the border of Kashmir that I watched with my fingers covering my eyes, and the requisite rooftop acrobatics that caused Cruise to sprain his ankle during filming."

Anne Cohen, Refinery 29

"Not since Fury Road have such viscerally practical effects been put to better use by such deliriously impractical people."

David Ehrlich, IndieWire

We tried french fries from 5 major fast-food chains to see who does it best, and there was a clear winner

French Fries 10

  • Taco Bell has come out with seasoned french fries in a clear jab at McDonald's and other burger-and-fry chains.
  • We compared them to fries from other major fast-food chains, including Burger King, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, and Wendy's.
  • In honor of National French Fry Day, we've presented the winner here.

Tex-Mex chain Taco Bell did the unthinkable and added french fries to its menu— albeit only for a limited time. But with Taco Bell's status as a major fast-food chain, one wonders: how do its fries stack up to the rest?

Burger King, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, and Wendy's — the fast-food giants — all offer signature takes on the classic food. McDonald's fries have had the same signature taste for years, while Burger King and Wendy's have changed their recipes in recent times. And Chick-fil-A's distinct waffle variation holds a fierce cult following.

French fries are an art form. The perfect fry is starchy and crispy and a sturdy vehicle for our favorite vegetable: ketchup. Their acceptance in American cuisine is far-reaching: The french fry can be a gas-station grab-and-go item or a gourmet delight.

But which chain has truly mastered the art of the fryolator? We set out to discover who makes the best fries.

Marina Nazario contributed reporting to an earlier version of this story.

SEE ALSO: We compared McDonald's new Chick-fil-A killer with the real thing — and the winner is unmistakable

First, we tried McDonald's. Salty, thin, and crispy, these classic fries have stayed consistent over the years.

A large order of McDonald's fries costs $3.15 in Manhattan. They're crispy on the outside but have an unusually hearty center for how thin they are. Loaded with salt, these fries are absolutely addictive.

Right away, we notice that Wendy's are the only fries that have the potato skin still on them. A large order runs for $2.60 in Manhattan.

8 cringeworthy statues of famous people that look nothing like them

James Dean statue

  • Many statues of famous individuals turn out hilariously inaccurate.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo's bronze bust at an airport in Portugal was mercilessly mocked on social media for looking nothing like the soccer player.
  • Lucille Ball's statue in New York state has been nicknamed "Scary Lucy" because of her terrifying facial expression.

While getting a statue made of someone seems like one of the most honorable ways to immortalize them, that's not always the case: many statues of famous individuals turn out looking nothing like them.

These mishaps have occurred with restorations of classic art works as well as wax figures of celebrities, but there's nothing quite like a carved statue to highlight cringeworthy inaccuracies.

Here are statues of famous people that turned out looking much worse than the person they represent.

Oscar Wilde's statue looks like a swamp creature.

Oscar Wilde's statue in London looks as if the mermaid from the Starbucks logo got sick and had to rise up out of the ocean to ask someone for help. It is a truly unfortunate portrayal of the otherwise handsome Irish poet and writer.

Lucille Ball's statue looks like an "I Love Lucy" demon.

When this statue of Lucille Ball showed up in her hometown of Celoron, New York, in 2009, fans were so outraged that they signed a petition to get it remade. Their efforts were a success, and the new Lucille Ball statue that now stands in the same area is much less terrifying.

Cristiano Ronaldo's bust was mercilessly mocked on social media.

This statue of Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled in 2017, when Portugal renamed the Madeira International Airport the Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo.

After widespread criticism, the artist, Emanuel Santos, redid it... though still not to everyone's satisfaction.

We compared Amazon and Walmart-owned Jet.com to see which site was easier to shop, and the winner was clear for a key reason (WMT, AMZN)

jet deals

  • Amazon is the one-stop shop to buy everything from fresh groceries to clothes and furniture.
  • Walmart-owned Jet.com sells many of the same products as Amazon, though on a smaller scale.
  • Jet competes in a number of ways, including by offering free two-day shipping on orders over $35.
  • We compared what it's like to shop on Amazon and Jet and found that they each had advantages. Overall, we found Jet to be more shopper-friendly.

Amazon has become the go-to store to buy, well, everything.

Amazon has made it possible to order everything customers might need, including groceries, clothes, and furniture, all in one place. For $12.99 a month or $119 a year, Prime members get added bonuses on top of the frequent markdowns, like free two-day shipping and access to music and video streaming services.

But Walmart-owned shopping site Jet has been making strides to compete with the e-commerce giant, like offering daily deals and free two-day shipping without membership fees. Though Jet can't compete with Amazon when it comes to certain exclusive products like Echo devices, Kindles, and streaming services, it offers JetCash, which are rewards incentives that can be used as cash on the site. It also has a private-label brand called "Uniquely J," which is designed to attract millennials by creating environmentally friendly products in artist-designed packaging.

Even though products are sometimes listed in different quantities or under different categories, the websites have a huge overlap in what they sell. To see which of the two stores had better deals and was more user-friendly, we compared common items from different categories on each site to see which site had better deals, which site had better shipping and returns policies, and how easy each website was to use.

The prices were extremely similar on Amazon and Jet, but one of the online stores had a few clear advantages — see how they stack up:

SEE ALSO: We compared prices on best-selling items at Amazon and Home Depot to see who has the best deals on tools and paint — here's the verdict

The differences between Amazon and Jet were obvious right away. The Amazon homepage featured deals and products that were recommended based on products I've looked at before, alongside a Prime advertisement and other related ads. There were a ton of recommended products and drop-down menus.

Jet's homepage was much simpler. Fewer products were displayed, and there was nothing showing up based on other products I've viewed in the past. There were fewer menus to choose from, so I was less overwhelmed with options. The layout was pretty similar to Amazon.

Both sites had a ton of different categories, including fresh produce, electronics, clothing, makeup, and more. It was a bit of an information overload.

John Krasinksi and Emily Blunt have been together for 8 years — here's a timeline of their adorable relationship

emily blunt john krasinski

This month, actors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary, and it’s actually been more than 10 years since they first met and fell in love. But you may not know how they actually got together.

Here’s everything you need to know about Krasinski and Blunt’s relationship, from their first meeting to today.

2008: It was love at first sight.

During an appearance on "The Ellen Show" in 2011, Krasinski opened up about the day that he and Blunt met— and how he immediately knew she was the one.

"It was one of those things where I wasn’t really looking for a relationship and I was thinking I’m going to take my time in LA," he said on the show "Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.’"

Blunt had a similar story to share in an interview with PeopleTV earlier this year. Although she didn’t know who Krasinski was, apparently, she didn’t need to. She and a friend were in a restaurant when her future husband walked in, and the rest is history.

"We were discussing how much I was enjoying being single. And then [my friend] goes, ‘Oh, my God, there’s my friend John.’ And that was it," she said.

They went on their first date at a shooting range.

That same year, Krasinski and Blunt had their first date … on a gun range.

"On our first date, I decided, ‘I’m gonna really hit the gas and bring her to a gun range,’" he told Conan O’Brien in 2012. "I think that I was so sure that I would never end up with her ... that I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna blow it right away and then that way you don’t feel bad.’"

August 2009: They got engaged.

Less than a year after starting their relationship, Krasinski and Blunt were engaged.. A month later, he told the story of their engagement during an interview with "Access Hollywood," which involved a lot of tears.

"She did cry after I cried and we cried and then everyone around us was crying," he said. "Then, I think people weren’t really sure what was going on, but they were crying because we were crying. But it was great. At the end of the day she said yes which is great. It’s a big part of this whole thing."

The best vacuum cleaners you can buy

$

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships so we may get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

vacuumbadge

The Insider Pick:

Vacuums aren't things most of us like to spend too much time doting over. They're loud, often clunky and temperamental. While some of us keep up on our maintenance of this 0h-so-precious yet oft underappreciated appliance, most of us neglect them until it's too late, or they simply start to underperform over time. Maybe your vacuum has begun to leave undesirable matter behind, leaving you with dreams of a newer, more efficient appliance — or, at least, a cleaner floor. Maybe it's time for a new vacuum.

Like most electronics these days, there are more than enough options to drive you mad in your search for the best replacement. There are light-weight cordless vacuums, canister vacuums, upright vacuums that are beholden to wall outlets, handheld dustbusters, and of course, robotic vacuums. So which do you choose?

The best vacuum for your home depends on a number of things, the most important being the size, floor plan, floor material, and the inhabitants of your abode.

How big is your home?

If your home, or the space you're planning to vacuum is anywhere over about 1000 sq. ft, and you don't want to have to clean in shifts between plugging into your charger, then a cordless vacuum may be out of the question. But, if storage is tight, maybe it is worth vacuuming in shifts to save on the closet space a larger vacuum would consume.

What kind(s) of surfaces will you be vacuuming?

The vacuums we recommend are for all surfaces, and some even have settings for particular types of carpet and other flooring, but before you buy a vacuum, make sure its well-suited for at least the predominant flooring in your household.

How often do you vacuum?

If you always like to have your floors squeaky clean — that is, if you vacuum daily, or almost daily — you might want to consider the Miele C2 Electro+, which will stand up to regular use much better than a cordless vacuum with a battery that won't last nearly as long with heavy use.

Do you have pets?

If you have pets, then maybe stay away from vacuum cleaners with bags, which are not only inherently wasteful and potentially costly but can clog your machine when they begin to fill with hair.

You also might want to skip out on the sensational new robotic vacuums — sorry, but imagine what might happen when your dog or cat decides to leave you a present and your new Roomba encounters it, only to stage what might appear to be a horrific crime scene — as Wirecutter says, this sort of thing is "not rare."

Here are our picks for the best home vacuums you can buy:

Read on in the slides below to learn more about our picks.

The best overall vacuum you can buy

Why you'll love it: The Miele C2 Electro+ has a high-powered sealed motor that creates superior suction and a belt system that's repairable and built to last years longer than cheaper vacuums.

It may be hard to envision yourself spending more than $500 on a vacuum — it certainly is for me — but judging by the Insider Picks team's own experience, the longevity of the Miele C2 Electro+ is unparalleled among cheaper options. Consider it an investment. After all, you might run through several cheap vacuums before the Miele even starts to think about kicking the bucket.

The bottom line? If you have the extra money and don't plan on moving too far away anytime soon, it's probably worth the expense up front. Even if something does start to go wrong with your Miele, it can be repaired when other cheaper vacuums cannot.

One thing to consider with high-end vacuums like this one is buying a model that takes bags as opposed to a canister. While we hate to advocate for more waste, bagged vacuums seem to last longer. Although cheaper vacuums only tend to last a few years, a high-end vacuum cleaner will last more than a decade if treated well, and bags help prevent grit, hair, and whatever else from collecting within the machine and damaging the motor.

The Miele will also clean much deeper into your carpet than our other picks, and, being a true workhorse, is the best option for meticulously clean souls who feel obliged to run their vacuums daily.

While we've had our own positive experience with the Miele C2 Electro+, praise by experts at Wirecutter and customer reviews on both Bed Bath & Beyond (4.7/5 stars based on 63 reviews) and Amazon (4.3/5 stars based on 153 reviews) only further affirm its worth to us.

Pros: Extremely powerful, long life

Cons: Extremely expensive

Buy the Miele C2 Electro+ on Amazon for $599.99

Buy the Miele C2 Electro+ from Bed Bath & Beyond for $599.99

The best cordless vacuum

Why you'll love it: The Dyson Cyclone is a sleek, cordless, easily-stowed vacuum that holds its charge for up to 60 minutes with non-motorized tools.

Cordless, compact, battery-powered "stick" vacuums are ideal for smaller homes and apartments where space is precious and vacuuming doesn't consume large amounts of time. Collectively, the Insider Picks team has tested a host of cordless vacuums, and several of us agree that the Dyson Cyclone has impressed us the best.

There are three models of the Dyson Cyclone to choose from: the Motorhead, the Animal, and the Absolute. All three are good, but the Animal and Absolute come with a miniature motorized tool and a more powerful torque drive as opposed to the Motorhead's direct drive.

That said, the two more powerful options bring the price tag up to the Miele C2 Electro+, though they're not likely to last anywhere near as long, mostly due to the rechargeable battery.

Still, if you want the best vacuum you can get and don't have space for the Miele C2 Electro+, we're convinced that the Dyson Cyclone (whichever model you choose) is the best you can do based on compact size and performance.

Amazon shoppers give the Dyson Cyclone an average of 4.1/5 stars based on 163 reviews, and Wirecutter calls it "expensive, but the absolute best."

Pros: Lightweight, very powerful for a cordless vacuum, stores almost anywhere

Cons: Hair jams up the direct-drive cleaner head, a lot of money to spend on a rechargeable battery-powered appliance, batteries aren't removable

Buy the Dyson Cyclone Motorhead on Amazon for $449.00

Buy the Dyson Cyclone Animal on Amazon for $599.00

Buy the Dyson Cyclone Absolute on Amazon for $699.00

The best vacuum under $130

Why you'll love it: The Shark Navigator Lift-Away offers excellent performance, a useful set of tools, and best of all, a reasonable price tag.

A fraction of the price of our other picks, the Shark Navigator Lift-Away is not quite as powerful, but it will most certainly get the job done. We especially like that it works both with and without a cord, providing you with the best of both worlds. You can break from the tethering power cable to get into tight corners and other hard-to-reach spots.

The “Lift-Away” portion of the name refers to the option of lifting the canister and hose right off the base for easy vacuuming of stairs, underneath furniture, tight corners, and those pesky cobwebs dangling from the high reaches of your ceiling. You won’t need super-strength to lift the vacuum up to those high corners, either. The whole vacuum weighs just 12.5 pounds or around eight pounds if you’re only using the canister and hose portion.

This is a bagless vacuum cleaner, which is fine for vacuums designed to last less than five years. Still, the Lift-Away does use a HEPA filter and what the manufacturer calls “Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology,” so you’ll be protected from dust, pollen, animal dander, and other nose-provoking allergens. When it’s time to empty the vacuum’s dirt canister, simply unclip its fasteners, hold the canister over the trash bin, push the button, and watch the dirt and dust tumble into the trash.

Wirecutter chose this vacuum as its recommended pick, praising it for reliability and durability, which reviewers found to be far superior to other inexpensive vacuum cleaners, and better than many pricier options. The Shark Navigator Lift-Away has quality belts and filters, rather than the cheap ones usually found in low-priced vacuums, so you’ll get your money’s worth and then some before this vacuum even begins to consider giving up the ghost.

Consumer Reports also likes this vacuum, giving it a “Very Good” rating and finding that it “excels at removing embedded dirt from carpets.” Amazon buyers back up those findings: with nearly 2,500 reviews, the Shark Navigator Lift-Away has a 4.4-star average.

Buyers love the powerful suction, the ability to detach the canister for easier access to high or tight spaces, the beater that makes short work of removing dirt from carpet but switches off for safe cleaning of hard floors, the low noise level, and the ease of washing filters rather than replacing them. And of course, everyone loves the extremely reasonable price.

On the downside, owners wish the electrical cord was longer, and some said the vacuum cleaner was a bit top-heavy.

The Shark Navigator Lift-Away comes with a dusting brush, an 8-inch and a 24-inch crevice tool, and a wide pet upholstery tool. — Nicole Price Fasig

Pros: Low price, superior performance, 5-year warranty, lift-off canister and hose

Cons: Hose is a bit short at 5 feet; electric cord is relatively short at only 25 feet (but an extension cord will fix that)

Buy the Shark Navigator Lift-Away on Amazon for $139 (originally $199.99)

10 things you’re getting wrong about veganism

eating strawberries

Being vegan is a huge life decision that more and more Americans are making. There’s been a rise in veganism from 1% of the US population to 6% in just three years, according to a recent study. But despite its growing popularity, there are still a lot of things about veganism people don’t understand.

If you spend any time online, you’ll see memes depicting vegans as pretentious, their food as bland and tasteless, and non-experts warning about the dangers of the diet. To put it bluntly, vegans have gotten a bad rap that they don’t necessarily deserve. Even Natalie Portman has recently tried to debunk some of the most egregious myths about the lifestyle she’s chosen.

If you’re looking to understand veganism more, or if you’re thinking about going vegan yourself, there are some key things you need to know about the lifestyle. To start, here are 10 myths about veganism that you need to stop believing.

Veganism and vegetarianism are the same thing.

Vegetarians don’t consume meat products, but will usually consume dairy and eggs — products the animal didn’t have to die for. Vegans, on the other hand, abstain from any and all products that come from animals and instead follow a fully plant-based diet. They’ll often carry that same dedication to products other than food. If you’re considering a shift towards a plant-based diet, it’s best to start vegetarian and work your way towards vegan.

People become vegans just to act better than other people.

There are a variety of reasons someone might become vegan, like a concern for animal welfare, a desire to do their part to help the environment, or an interest in a healthier lifestyle overall. And while vegans may also be outspoken about the environment or animals, it’s illogical to think they would make such an extreme choice about the way they live their life purely to get a feeling of moral superiority.

Being vegan is expensive.

If you’re looking purely at processed faux meat or prepackaged foods, then vegan foods can seem expensive, but the same can be said of prepared foods in any variety.

When you instead look at some of the staples of a vegan diet — rice, legumes, vegetables, and fruit — the price tags drop pretty dramatically. I compared the prices of several items at my local grocery store to get a feel for whether this myth held any weight. I found a pound of dry black beans were $1.29, while a pound of chicken breast was $2.09/lb and a pound of ground beef was $3.99.

Of course, it's worth noting that food accessibility and pricing varies based on your region and how expensive it is comes down to what exactly you're eating. Still, price doesn't necessarily need to be an inhibitor to going vegan.

10 things you’re getting wrong about going vegetarian

$

fiber broccoli reduce bloating tips_the office

No longer just "hippie food,” vegetarianism has spread across the US to various types of households in the past several decades. Tons of celebrities from Ellen DeGeneres to Liam Hemsworth have committed to living a plant-based life, and that mirrors the diet's rise in popularity.

Vegetarians are people who abstain from eating meat. But they aren’t to be confused with vegans, who abstain from any and all animal products including milk and eggs.

Vegetarians get asked a lot of the same questions over and over, proving there’s still a good bit of confusion around it. To help straighten things out, we’re debunking 10 myths about vegetarianism.

You can’t get enough protein without meat.

The first thing any meat eater asks when they find out someone is a vegetarian is "where do you get your protein?" The answer is simple — pretty much everywhere. Meat is just one of the many sources of protein.

According to Health.com, protein is found in high quantities in eggs, tofu, dairy products, soy products, nuts, and seeds. There are also some more unexpected protein sources like seaweed, artichoke hearts, leafy greens, quinoa, and spirulina — a type of algae with four grams of protein per tablespoon.

Being vegetarian means you’re automatically healthy.

Vegetarianism is often lumped in with other "diets," which leads to the misconception that it’s always healthy. But it’s actually more of a lifestyle than a diet, which means it can be as healthy or unhealthy as the person wants to make it. According to HuffPost, a lot of the vegetarian food you find in the grocery store is high-calorie junk food and not very healthy. The same goes for vegetarian meat alternatives and vegetarian fast food options.

You’ll be tired all the time.

Everyone seems to know someone who tried to cut out meat, felt exhausted all the time and decided to eat meat again. The truth is, it’s not necessarily the lack of meat making you tired, it’s what you chose to replace it with.

If going vegetarian means you continue to eat the same processed foods, pasta, pizza, and fast food, but simply forego the meat, then you’ll absolutely be exhausted. If you instead replace that missing protein with other protein, like legumes, and fill the rest of your diet with a variety of whole foods, your energy should balance out in no time.

According to Healthy Eating, cutting out meat also means you’re likely to be low on vitamin B12, which can cause low energy and fatigue.
