Christine Blasey Ford has become the target of a social media disinformation campaign after accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault

Brett Kavanaugh Christine Blasey Ford protest

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the California psychology professor who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when the two were in high school in the 1980s, has become the target of a disinformation campaign on social media.

False rumors meant to discredit Ford are making the rounds on social media, including on Facebook, Twitter and Reddit, The New York Times and other news outlets reported on Wednesday. Some of those have already been amplified in some conservative media, like on Fox News host Laura Ingraham's opinion program and conservative commentator Mark Levin's radio program.

The disinformation bears some of the hallmarks of propaganda that spread online during the 2016 US election, which is now one of the threads in the ongoing investigation of Russian interference being conducted by the special counsel Robert Mueller's office.

Read some of the false rumors about Christine Blasey Ford being spread online below:

CLAIM: College students wrote negative reviews about her on a website that ranks college professors. (FALSE)

College students posted scathing reviews about her on RateMyProfessors.com, claiming that she was "unprofessional" and had a "dark" personality.

The truth: The negative reviews that have gotten media attention in recent days were referencing Christine A. Ford, a professor at California State University, Fullerton in Southern California — not Brett Kavanaugh's accuser, Christine Blasey Ford. She teaches at Palo Alto University in Northern California.

CLAIM: Brett Kavanaugh's mother, Martha Kavanaugh, who is a district court judge in Maryland, once ruled against Christine Blasey Ford's parents in a foreclosure case. (FALSE)

The rumor says that Christine Blasey Ford's parents, Ralph and Paula Blasey, lost their home in a 1996 foreclosure case, over which Brett Kavanaugh's mother presided.

The truth: Ralph and Paula Blasey were indeed defendants in a 1996 foreclosure case where Martha Kavanaugh was the presiding judge, CBS News White House correspondent Steven Portnoy reported, but she did not rule against them, and they did not lose their home.

CLAIM: Christine Blasey Ford allegedly accused Justice Neil Gorsuch of sexual assault last year. (FALSE)

According to The New York Times report, a Twitter user named Josh Cornett, who has a history of spreading far-right-themed misinformation online, appears to have started the rumor.

A tweet posted on the account on Tuesday claimed Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was hesitant to bring up Christine Blasey Ford's letter accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault because she allegedly sent a similar letter about Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Donald Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, last year. This is false.

The truth: No such letter accusing Gorsuch of sexual assault has been found, The Times reported.

Burning Man is arguably the most captivating festival in the world.

The annual "counterculture" event sees around 70,000 people visit Black Rock City, Nevada each year and form a giant semi-circle for a weekend of self-expression, civic responsibility, music, and art — and some pretty crazy fashion choices.

Founded in 1986, the festival has been home to some pretty incredible scenes over the years.

Burning Man photographer and "anthropological enthusiast" Phillip Volker has compiled the most extraordinary, never-before-seen images from the past decade of the festival in his new book, "Dust to Dawn."

He shared a selection of the photos, from what he calls "a haven for enquiring minds," with Business Insider.

10 foods you should avoid reheating

$

microwave

Leftovers can be a lifesaver when it comes to a quick office lunch or a no-fuss evening meal. There’s something so satisfying about popping a plate of last night’s dinner in the microwave for a fast and easy way to fill your belly.

Unfortunately, reheating certain dishes can put you at risk of food poisoning or worse. Here are a few foods you should never reheat for safety reasons.

You should think twice before warming up leftover potatoes.

Sad news for spud lovers: reheating leftover potatoes could make you ill.

As the Independent reported, the issue with reheating potatoesisn’t actually the process of warming them in the microwave or oven. If cooked potatoes are left to cool at room temperature for too long, the bacteria that causes botulism may form. This is actually made more likely if the potatoes are wrapped tightly in foil.

Reheating doesn’t always get the potato hot enough to kill the bacteria, even if the dish seems piping hot. If you didn’t tuck your potatoes away in the refrigerator right after serving, don’t risk food poisoning by eating them the next day.

Reheating mushrooms can give you an upset stomach.

According to the Independent and the European Food Information Council, reheating mushrooms is a big mistake.

Mushroomscontain proteins that can be damaged by enzymes and bacteria if not stored properly, e.g. left at room temperature too long. Reheating and consuming mushrooms that have deteriorated in this way can give you a stomach ache.

If you really must reheat mushrooms, the European Food Information Council recommends warming them toat least 158 degrees Fahrenheit.

You probably shouldn’t reheat your chicken.

You’ve probably heard that heating up leftover chicken can dangerous. Though it isn’t strictly true that reheated chicken will lead to food poisoning, getting the process right is tricky.

Lydia Buchtmann, spokesperson for the Food Safety Information Council, told SBS that it’s technically OK to reheat chicken. However, you need to make sure that every single part of the chicken has reached a temperature ofat least 175 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure dangerous bacteria are killed. The only way to do that is with a cooking thermometer. Furthermore, you need tomake sure cooked chicken is kept below 42 degrees Fahrenheit at all times if you plan to reheat it, and you should toss any cooked chicken that’s been around for more than three days.

If you don’t happen to carry around a meat thermometer and don’t know the exact temperature of your lunchbox and fridge, reheating chicken might be more trouble than it’s worth.

7 Marvel superheroes who deserve their own TV shows on Disney's upcoming Netflix competitor

blade

Disney is expected to enter the streaming game next year, and it's bringing the Avengers with it.

According to Variety, Disney is developing TV series for the platform that spin out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, starring the likes of Loki, Scarlet Witch, and even characters who haven't been introduced yet.

The MCU has already landed on the small screen thanks to Netflix's Marvel shows like "Daredevil" and "Iron Fist," as well as network shows like "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter." But those are loosely connected to the MCU. What Disney reportedly wants to do with its streaming service is on another, more ambitious level.

It's also perfect for characters who haven't been included in the MCU's big screen adventures who may be better suited for television.

Since Variety notes that characters who haven't appeared yet could star in their own shows, we've rounded up seven superheroes from Marvel comic books that would fit nicely into the Marvel streaming universe.

Below are Marvel characters that Disney should introduce on its streaming service that haven't been included in the MCU yet:

SEE ALSO: Disney's CEO says there shouldn't be 'two Marvels,' suggesting the X-Men will be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Blade

Not since "Blade: Trinity" in 2004, Wesley Snipes' last film in the role and a critically panned finale to his trilogy, has the half-human, half-vampire "daywalker" been seen on the big screen. He appeared in a TV series in 2006 that only lasted one season.

The film rights to the character have reverted to Marvel, but we haven't heard a peep about any prospects for the character. It seems he has been forgotten, even in the comic books — as this Hollywood Reporter piece points out, Blade was set to star in a new comic series in 2015, but after the creators walked away, Marvel never went through with it.

Blade doesn't exactly fit Disney's family-friendly image, or even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. But that's why Netflix was a perfect place for street-level, gritty characters like Daredevil and Luke Cage. The same can be said of Blade, whose more mature elements would put him at odds with the MCU on the big screen, but fit adequately in a streaming series that has fewer limitations.

Deadpool/X-Force

After the Disney/Fox merger, the future of the "Deadpool" movies is up in the air. The character's R-rated foul mouth and violent tendencies, like Blade, don't fit well into the MCU as we know it. But Deadpool and a streaming service might be a perfect match (think of the jokes!).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that he'd want Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to oversee Fox's "X-Men" franchise, which "Deadpool" is technically a part of. When asked if Deadpool could become an Avenger, he said, "Kevin's got a lot of ideas. I'm not suggesting that's one of them. But who knows?"

The prospect of Deadpool being an Avenger is a silly one, but Iger's comments do suggest that the X-Men could be introduced to the MCU, which would open up a can of worms when it comes to Deadpool. A "Deadpool 2" spin-off movie starring the X-Force team is in development with "The Cabin in the Woods" director Drew Goddard, and it's unknown how the merger will affect it. It's possible that it could still move forward, but under Disney, it makes  sense for the character's future adventures to take place on the small screen.

Fantastic Four

The last three "Fantastic Four" movies haven't exactly been successful. They've made less than $800 million worldwide, combined, and the last attempt in 2015, a reboot directed by Josh Trank, only made $63 million domestically. It also has an abysmal 9% Rotten Tomatoes critic score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The MCU has managed to breathe new life into characters like Spider-Man and make little-known characters like Black Panther global phenomenons. But if Disney didn't want to take that risk with the Fantastic Four, a TV show on its streaming service might be a better bet.

stephen hawking the big bang theory

"The Big Bang Theory" is coming to an end after its 12th season.

Since 2007, Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Raj, and Howard have had their fair share of run-ins with celebrities. Howard rubbed shoulders with Buzz Aldrin when he went to space, James Earl Jones pranked Carrie Fisher, and Adam West was invited to Sheldon's birthday party. Stars ranging from Bob Newhart to the late Stephen Hawking have even become recurring characters on the CBS comedy.

Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye will once again join the show to kick off its 12th season on September 24. Before the star-studded final season premieres, take a look back at the many stars who have appeared on the show.

"Roseanne" actress and "The Talk" co-host Sara Gilbert appeared on the show for several seasons as an experimental physicist.

Before Johnny Galecki reprised his role on the "Roseanne" reboot, his old co-star Sara Gilbert appeared on "The Big Bang Theory" until season three as Leonard's ex and colleague, Dr. Leslie Winkle.

Winkle returned for the show's 200th episode on season nine to attend Sheldon's birthday party.

She's not the only "Roseanne" star who has made an appearance. Laurie Metcalf has played Sheldon's mom.

Metcalf has appeared on a handful of episodes as Mary Cooper since season one. We expect to see her again to close out the show.

Charlie Sheen played himself on an episode of season two.

Sheen appeared on "The Big Bang Theory" while his CBS show, "Two and a Half Men," was on TV. Raj tells Sheen at a bar that he's going to be in People magazine.

It doesn’t always pay to be first. Just ask all the contestants who have had the unfortunate distinction of being the first eliminated from the ballroom on the hit ABC reality show "Dancing with the Stars."

We rounded up some of the celebrities that lasted the shortest on the show — whether they deserved it or not.

Johnny Damon and Jamie Anderson were victims of a double elimination

During season 26’s special truncated athlete’s edition, former baseball outfielder Johnny Damon and Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson were sent packing in a double elimination in the season premiere. Damon received 18/30 for his foxtrot with partner Emma Slater and Anderson didn’t fare much better with 19/30 for her Viennese Waltz with Artem Chigvintsev.

Barbara Corcoran did not find as much success in the ballroom as the boardroom.

The real estate mogul is a boss in the business world but failed to win over the public during her season 25 stint. She and partner Keo Motsepe were the first eliminated in the second week after posting a 17/30 for their foxtrot.

Chris Kattan couldn’t keep up in season 24

Actor and former "Saturday Night Live" comedian Kattan and partner Witney Carson said goodbye to the competition in week two despite posting a respectable 22/30 for their jazz routine.

The best towel overall

Why you'll love it: So soft, absorbent, and wallet-friendly, the Fieldcrest Spa Towel makes stepping out of the shower a pleasure.

If you’re looking for a 100% cotton towel that absorbs water without feeling heavy or “soaked” against your skin, has a plush texture, comes in lots of great colors, and holds up well after years of use, you’ve met your match with the Fieldcrest Spa Towel. You get all of that quality at a budget price.

You’ll find three sizes of towel available at Target: bath sheet (measures 65 x 33 inches), bath towel (measures 56 x 30 inches), and hand towel (30 x 16 inches). All sizes are available in a choice of 11 lovely neutral shades, including a deep brown, cream, mint green, and several soft blue shades.

The Fieldcrest towel is a Target exclusive. A similar towel from Fieldcrest (that's currently out of stock) is The Wirecutter’s number-one pick for the bath towel category. In fact, it’s been the review team's top choice for two years in a row. They love its durability, medium-plush thickness, and the way it absorbs water thoroughly yet dries out quickly. The Spa towel we recommend is similar.

Target buyers seem to agree: The Fieldcrest towel has 24 reviews and a nearly five-star rating. Happy buyers rave about the towel’s luxurious feel, plushness, and excellent absorbing capabilities. With so many reviews, however, there are bound to be some negatives. A few buyers complained that the towel didn't absorb water as well as they'd hoped.

Pros: Great price, nice selection of colors, plush and soft, 100% cotton terrycloth

Cons: A few complaints of reduced quality and fading

The best towel that's sheet sized

Why you'll love it: If you like ‘em large, you’ll love the soft and absorbent Utopia Bath Sheet, which measures 35 x 70 inches.

If you like wrapping your bath towel around your entire body, you’ll be able to do so and have towel to spare with the Utopia Bath Sheet. This towel is huge at 35 inches wide by 70 inches long.

But the huge size isn't the only great thing about it. It’s also made from 100% ring spun cotton for super-softness along with excellent durability. The hems are double-stitched, so they won’t unravel or fray, even after many trips through the wash.

A lot of Amazon shoppers are clearly happy when they step out of the bath and into this towel. The Utopia Bath Sheet has more than 3,100 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars.

While some buyers do comment that the towels are not as thick as they expected, most echo the comment of shopper L.Hale, who wrote: “These towels are HUGE! And so fluffy! They shed in the dryer a good bit the first 5 or 6 times you dry them, but after that, they tend to slack off. I bought one just to see how I liked them, then ended up buying 5 more!”

There are plenty of colors to choose from, including pure black, plum, and dark brown, so you can add comfort and style to your bathroom.

The best lightweight towel

Why you'll love it: Crane & Canopy's Fouta Towel is lightweight, highly absorbent, dries quickly, and feels wonderful on your skin.

During those hot, humid months when nothing seems to dry, having a lightweight towel is a must. We tried Crane & Canopy's Yellow Striper Fouta Towel during the stickest summer months, and we loved it.

Not only does the 100% Turkish cotton towel dry quickly, it also feels lightweight and soft on your skin. The light terry cloth interior is highly absorbent and picks up any water or moisture so you dry off quickly. You can machine wash these towels on the gentle cycle, but you should avoid using liquid fabric softner.

On the ends of the towel, there's a cute light fringe that adds some flair to the towel's design. You can get the Fouta towel in a variety of colors, including coral, yellow, and blue. Crane & Canopy has striped and polka dotted patterns for you to choose from, too.

You can get the Fouta towel in a variety of sizes, including washcloth, hand towel, bath towel, and bath sheet. We found the bath towel to be just the right size, but if you like larger towels, the bath sheet is the one for you. Crane & Canopy also sells sets so your entire bathroom can match.

The only real downside to these towels is the price tag of $22 for a bath towel and $34 for a bath sheet. Also, if you want a plush, fluffy towel, these lightweight Turkish cotton ones aren't it, but Crane & Canopy has fluffy towels that are also great. – Malarie Gokey

Pros: Absorbent, dries quickly, lightweight, soft, 100% Turkish cotton, cute colors and patterns

Cons: Pricey

5 game-changing announcements Amazon made at its biggest event of the year (AMZN)

Amazon Echo event 2018 Dave Limp

Amazon, one of the biggest companies in the world, made a huge splash at its September 20 event in Seattle, where it showcased tons of new hardware and services designed to make your life easier.

Amazon unveiled significant updates to Echo devices that already exist, like the Echo Dot and Echo Plus, but it also introduced entirely new products we've never seen before, like a subwoofer for the Amazon Echo called Echo Sub, and even smart kitchen appliances like a smart microwave.

While Amazon made dozens of announcements, these were the 5 biggest highlights from the show:

SEE ALSO: Here's everything Amazon announced at its huge September event

1. Amazon’s voice assistant is now your personal security guard

A new feature called Alexa Guard integrates your Echo devices and smart lights with security service providers to protect your home.

Alexa Guard can send you alerts with audio clips when specific sounds are detected, for instance, and you can choose to forward those alerts to your security provider like ADT or Ring.

Alexa Guard also uses machine learning to turn your smart lights on and off in a pattern that seems normal to make it appear like someone is home.

The takeaway: Alexa Guard is one of the more clever smart-home products to come along. Security is a huge deal, but being able to do smart things like adjust the lights to make it seem like someone is home is a step beyond what other tech companies are doing in this space.

2. Amazon introduced a "smart" microwave that costs $60

Amazon's new $60 smart microwave, shipping later this year, comes with an “Ask Alexa” button built-in. You can just press that button and issue a verbal command, like “heat this up for 45 seconds,” to get the timer going.

Amazon’s new microwave also comes with the company’s Dash Replenishment service, which means you can automatically order certain kinds of food, like popcorn, with a push of a button on your microwave.

The takeaway: Why has it taken so long for affordable kitchen appliances like microwaves to get “smart”? This not only benefits consumers, since it’s more futuristic than pressing a a keypad-style arrangement of physical buttons, but the way it integrates Amazon’s services like Alexa and Dash is a great way to get people familiar with those products.

3. Amazon’s $25 “Smart Plug” is a tiny device that could make a huge impact

Amazon unveiled a new gadget called the Smart Plug, which is way cooler than it sounds.

The Smart Plug basically works as a buffer between your wall outlet and any of your appliances, like lights, or fans, or even your coffee maker, to make them “smart.” Just plug any of those devices into the Smart Plug and you’re all set — the Smart Plug is Alexa-enabled so you can turn your lights on or off, for example, using just your voice, even though they weren’t “smart lights” when you bought them.

The takeaway: The $25 Smart Plug is a really easy and convenient way to make non-smart devices act like smart devices. This means you don’t need to buy specific appliances to have voice control, which could have a huge impact on consumers.

The best wine fridge you can buy

best wine fridge

  • High-quality wine fridges use space efficiently, keep your bottles at a consistent and accurate temperature, and run quietly.

  • The Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigerator is our top pick because it features dual temperature zones, accent lights to easily see the wines inside, and it fits 46 standard Bordeaux style bottles.

In my home, we like to have a bottle or two of champagne and a few red wine options on hand at all times in case there’s something to celebrate or if friends stop by. While it’s nice to think that storing these bottles in a rack for long periods of time will help them age, the truth of the matter is that improper storage can negatively impact the flavor, aroma, color, structure, and healthiness of the wine.

According to the World Food Logistics Organization, the ideal temperature for storing both white and red wines is between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer a bottle spends outside of this temperature range, the more the flavor quality is affected. And, in as little as a week, wine can be damaged when kept outside of the 50-to-75-degree range. With this in mind, if you like to have wine on hand at all times, buying a wine fridge may be the best solution for maintaining optimal aroma and flavor quality.

There are two main types of wine fridges: thermoelectric and compressor. Your typical kitchen refrigerator is a compressor fridge. These units are often louder, heavier, and produce more vibrations, which are bad for wine. On the other hand, thermoelectric coolers are generally seen as better for wine because they are quieter and vibration-free. However, thermoelectric coolers are affected by ambient room temperatures so they should only be used in rooms that have temps between 50 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

A feature commonly found in larger refrigerators is dual temperature zones. This allows you to have two storage areas with different temps. If storage is your only concern, this may not be that useful. 55 degrees Fahrenheit is an excellent temp for just about every type of wine. Yet, with dual zones, you can use one zone for storing wine, and the other zone could be used to bring the wine up or down to serving temperature, depending on the wine.

Speaking of serving temperatures, red wines are best between 62 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas white wine is best served between 49 and 55 degrees.

While researching the best wine fridges, we examined hundreds of expert and buyer reviews and ratings of dozens of units. While all the coolers we looked at had their flaws, our guide features units that have the best track record of user-friendly operation, durability, and performance.

Here are our picks for the best wine fridges you can buy:

Read on in the slides below to check out our top picks.

The best wine fridge overall

Why you'll love it: The Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigerator runs quietly, is large enough to fit 46 bottles, and fits under your counter.

The Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigeratoris unique because it holds up to 46 bottles: 8 on each of the 5 sliding beechwood shelves and 6 on the bottom.

There are also two temperature zones: the upper zone keeps wine between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the lower zone is between 50 and 66 degrees. Both zone temperatures are easy to read on digital displays, and to adjust the temps, you just push the up and down arrows.

The Kalamera fridge also comes with a built-in security lock and blue accent lighting. And, it can be built-in or freestanding with dimensions of 23.4 by 33 by 22.4 inches. Kalamera offers a one-year warranty on parts.

The Spruce recommends the Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigerator as a good high-end pick. The reviewer was impressed with how the zones were able to maintain precise temperatures while making very little noise and avoiding vibrations. Several other sites recommend the Kalamera fridge, including Cooling Wine, Wine Cooler Reviews, and Under Counter Wine Fridge.

About 66% of the Amazon buyers who commented on the Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigerator left a positive review. The most helpful reviewer liked the fridge overall and gave it five stars. However, he noted a couple quality control issues that led to unpleasant sounds coming from the unit. He was able to fix these issues on his own but would have preferred to not have to.

Other buyers mention that it’s easy to adjust the door’s swing direction, the operation is quiet, and that the accent lighting makes reading labels effortless while not casting annoyingly bright light.

Pros: Runs quietly, dual temperature zones, accent lighting, fits 46 bottles

Cons: Complaints of quality control issues

Buy the Kalamera 24-inch Wine Refrigerator on Amazon for $799

The best countertop wine fridge

Why you'll love it: If you rarely have more than a case of wine on hand, the Avanti 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Counter Top Wine Cooler is an affordable storage option.

At 20 by 10 by 25 inches, the Avanti 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Counter Top Wine Cooleris the most compact wine fridge in our guide. This makes it ideal for countertops, though it won’t fit under cabinets positioned at the standard 18 inches above the counter.

The front of the fridge has a stylish curved glass door and an auto defrost system so you can easily see what bottles are chilling without opening the door. There is room for four bottles placed vertically. This is helpful because once you open a bottle, you may want to keep it chilled until your next glass and avoid redistributing any sediments.

Wine Cooler Lab recommends the Avanti Wine Cooler because of its attractive concave glass door, reasonable size, and convenience. However, the reviewer noted that the room’s ambient temperature affected the fridge’s ability to cool, which makes it less helpful for patio areas in hot climates.

Wine Cooler Reviews recommends this unit because of its intuitive user interface, attractive design, and vibration-free refrigeration. They were also put off by the limited cooling abilities and the loudness of the fan.

Approximately 72% of the buyers who reviewed the Avanti 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Counter Top Wine Cooler on Amazon gave it four or five stars. One user had the fridge for two years before the fan failed on him. He describes how he used about $30 worth of materials to fix the fridge so that it worked better than new.

Other buyers have been impressed with the consistent performance, even after a year or more of ownership. Another popular feature is the ability to position bottles both vertically and horizontally.

Pros: Attractive appearance, small footprint, horizontal and vertical bottle storage

Cons: Only cools to 25 degrees below the ambient temperature

Buy the Avanti 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Counter Top Wine Cooler on Amazon for $111.54 (originally $129)

The best 18-bottle wine fridge

Why you'll love it: The Ivation 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Red and White Wine Cooler maintains accurate temperatures without making a lot of noise.

The smoked-glass door of the Ivation 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Red and White Wine Cooleroffers a unique, attractive look while blocking UV rays, which can affect the flavor of complex wines. This single-zone fridge keeps temperatures between 54 and 64 degrees Fahrenheit. And, for proper aging and settling, it is outfitted with anti-vibration components.

The cellar has a bright blue LCD digital temperature display and interior LED lighting. We were unable to track down warranty information, but Ivation states that they have a “100% customer satisfaction guarantee.”

The Ivation IV-FWCT181B is the top wine fridge on The Wirecutter. Of the coolers he tested, the reviewer noted that this unit had the most accurate temperature performance and strongest build quality. However, he didn’t like that shelves had to be removed to fit magnum bottles, but this is a common problem with most wine cellars.

Best Reviews did a round-up of the best Ivation fridges and included this model because of the silent running fan and accurate temperatures. And, the reviewer for New York Magazine found the smoked-glass door especially attractive.

Around 56% of the Amazon buyers who reviewed the Ivation 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Red and White Wine Cooler gave it five stars. The most helpful reviewer, Daryl R. Wolf, set the cellar at 54 degrees Fahrenheit. After a few days, it never dipped below 57. Ivation worked with him and determined that the reviewer’s desert home was too hot (81 degrees) for the unit to work properly. So, they sent him a full refund.

This model works best when the ambient temp is 72 or lower. Other buyers are impressed with how user-friendly it is and how quietly it runs.

Pros: Runs quietly, holds accurate temperatures, attractive smoked-glass door

Cons: Doesn’t function well when ambient temp is above 72 degrees

  • Outdoor markets are common in Italy, Greece, and South Africa.
  • Australia has some of the highest grocery prices in the world.
  • Here's what grocery shopping is like in 10 countries around the world.

Grocery shopping is something most of us do on auto-pilot. Grabbing food staples at the store is such an everyday activity that it's hard to imagine the experience being very different.

The where, when, and how, however, of grocery shopping actually varies a great deal from country to country.

We usedNumbeo's cost of living calculator to compare the price of food across the globe and collected insights into what grocery shopping looks like around the world.

You may want to wear gloves in Italian grocery stores.

Grocery shopping in Italy is normally done in local stores, though outdoor markets are also popular spots to shop for food in big cities and more rural areas.

According to Tripsavvy, it'scommon practice to don disposable plastic gloves to pick out your fruits and vegetables in a grocery store. Shoppers are also expected to weigh and label their own produce before they get to the checkout line.

At outdoor markets, shoppers are generally not required to wear gloves but areexpected to indicate to the seller which items they wish to purchase, rather than picking them up directly. Italians also like to purchase fresh and cured meats at their local deli.

In a large city like Rome, a gallon of milk costs an average of €4.26 ($5.21). You can find a bottle of mid-range wine for €5 ($5.84). A pound of local cheese will cost about €5.07, ($5.92).

Grocery stores in Germany have restrictive hours.

According to The German Way, most Germansdo their grocery shopping in chain stores such as Lidle, Aldo, Kaufland, and Edeka. Discount grocery stores are popular but tend to offer a more limited selection, while larger chain stores offer greater variety.

Many German grocery storesuse a coin deposit system to make sure all carts are returned to their proper place. This involves feeding a euro coin into slot on the handle of a grocery cart to release it for use and returning the cart to its place in order to retrieve your coin.

Grocery stores are alsopopular places to return bottles for recycling due to the Pfand deposit program, which offers recyclers between €0.08 and €0.25 for each bottle returned.

In general, German grocery stores in cities areclosed on Sundays and shut their doors at 8 p.m. Stores in smaller towns may have even more restrictive hours.

If you're looking to pick up milk in a city like Berlin, expect to pay around€3.06 ($3.57) for a gallon. You'll also find beef to be about€5.35 ($6.24) per pound, while a half-liter bottle of domestic beer will cost approximately€0.77 ($0.90).

Eggs and milk are not refrigerated in France.

France has a wide range of grocery stores and supermarkets, including popular chains like Monoprix, Carrefour, Netto, and Auchan.

According to Oui in France, mostgrocery stores open around 9 a.m. and close by 8 p.m. Large and small stores are closed on Sundays, and shops in small towns sometimes close for lunch and reopen in the afternoon. Shoppers are expected to bring their own bags and weigh their own produce before taking it to the register. Both milk and eggs are shelved at room temperature.

Verily Mag reported that the French are more likely to shop daily rather than weekly and often head to their local bakery to pick up bread and pastries.

In Lyon, a gallon of milk costs about€3.46 ($4.04) on average. You can grab a pound of local cheese for about€7.39 ($6.63) per pound. A pound of beef will cost you approximately€9.30 ($10.86).

Toyota RAV4 hybrid

  • The automotive search engine iSeeCars.com recently commissioned a study to look at the used car industry.
  • They studied a pool of four million used-cars that were one to three years old and had been sold between January and July 2018.
  • iSeeCars.com found that the fastest selling used SUV on the market is the Toyota RAV 4, with the RAV4 Hybrid coming in at fourth place and the Toyota 4Runner finishing in ninth place.
  • Four of the top-10 fastest-selling used-SUVs are luxury SUVs, including two by Toyota's Lexus brand.
  •  "Buying a late-model used luxury SUV, especially a Lexus which is known for reliability, affords the consumer with a good deal on a dependable vehicle," said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly in a statement.

The automotive search engine iSeeCars.com recently commissioned a study to look at the used car industry, where they found the best used-car deals out there. But the study also took a more specific measurement of which are the slowest-and fastest-selling used cars on the market today.

The study sampled a pool of four million used-cars that were one to three years old and had been sold between January and July 2018.

But going more granular, the study also found the fastest-selling used SUVs in the U.S.

iSeeCars.com found that the fastest selling used SUV on the market is the Toyota RAV4, with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid coming in fourth place.

"The RAV4 is consistently a top-seller in the new car segment, which explains why its standard and hybrid models are also popular among used car buyers," said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly in a statement.

Four luxury SUVs made the top-10 list as fastest sellers, something Ly attributes to their depreciation levels.

"Luxury SUVs depreciate quickly because of their high starting price and because they are most often leased," said Ly. "Buying a late-model used luxury SUV, especially a Lexus which is known for reliability, affords the consumer with a good deal on a dependable vehicle."

All in all, Toyota featured five SUVs on the list, as its Lexus luxury brand had two cars in the top-10 and its general brand had three.

China and the US are at each other's throats over Russian weapons sales — here's what Beijing's been buying

A Sukhoi SU-35 fighter aircraft participates in a flying display during the 50th Paris Air Show

  • China has been buying billions of dollars worth of Russian fighter jets, missiles, helicopters, and engine technology to improve the combat capability of its military.
  • The US sanctioned a division of the Chinese military Thursday for its imports of Russian Su-35 combat aircraft and S-400 surface-to-air missile systems in violation of US sanctions on Russia, prompting Beijing to protest.
  • China warned Friday that the US will face "consequences" if it does not "remedy this mistake" immediately.

China, which was targeted by US military sanctions on Thursday for buying Russian fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles, is one of Russia’s key arms customers.

Russia sold around US$15 billion worth of weapons to the Chinese in 2017, maintaining a similar level of sales to the previous year, according to Rosoboronexport, the Russian agency responsible for military exports.

The US has said the sanctions, which relate to the purchase of Su-35 combat aircraft and an S-400 surface-to-air missile system, mainly target Russia and it has no intention of undermining the defence capacity of other nations.

Russia is the world’s second biggest exporter of arms behind the United States, who together account for more than half of all global arms exports, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

China accounts for six per cent of all sales and is among the top five importers of arms, along with India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia.

Here are some of the military items Russia sells to China:

SUKHOI SU-35

The US State Department said China received 10 Su-35 combat aircraft in December 2017, becoming the first foreign country to purchase Russia’s upgrade to its Su-27.

The Su-35 is powered by two AL-117S turbofan engines and fitted with thrust-vectoring nozzles enabling it to perform post-stall manoeuvres at low speeds.

The Su-35 also features a multifunctional radar capable of tracking up to 30 targets simultaneously.

Beijing flexed its military muscle in May against Taiwan, flying Su-35 fighters with H-6K strategic bombers across the Bashi Channel between the self-ruled island and the northern islands of the Philippines.

S-400 AIR DEFENCE MISSILE SYSTEM

The State Department also said China bought an S-400 system this year, the first regimental set delivered as part of a contract signed in 2014.

As one of the world’s top air defence systems, the S-400 includes missiles with different ranges, from 40km to 400km, which can hit targets from altitudes of 10m to 30km to form a multi-layer full coverage of defence.

The S-400’s advanced radar capability improves detection of stealth aircraft and the ability to counter electronic jamming.

One S-400 system features 384 missiles and up to 72 launchers. It can track 300 targets at the same time and attack 36 at once. It can hit a target travelling at a maximum speed of 4,800 metres per second, or Mach 15.

Russia is also set to sell the S-400 to Turkey, which has raised concerns within Nato.

KAMOV HELICOPTERS

China bought seven Kamov Ka-32A11VS multirole helicopters in 2016, and two more in 2017 from Russian Helicopters holding company. The contracts included training for Chinese pilots.

The multipurpose helicopters are suitable for a wide variety of missions, including firefighting, search and rescue operations, and patrolling.

The Ka-32 is a highly versatile craft, capable of carrying cargo inside its fuselage as well as externally. Its coaxial rotor allows it to make precise landings in mountainous terrain or dense urban environments.

It can also be equipped with a range of special equipment, such as water cannons for fire fighting, and performs well in the face of dense smoke or dust. It is also suitable for high altitude construction and cargo transport.

How much the cast of 'Friends' is estimated to be worth today

$

d9cf1ee6198424237372a00f209a254bb0bb79f0

When “Friends” was still in production in 2002, the cast was notorious for negotiating their $1 million per episode payout— a salary that made Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courtney Cox some of the highest paid actresses on TV. But how is the cast doing today?

Although “Friends” ended in 2004 (and some cast members’ careers after the show were more lucrative than others), the cast is still making bank. Read on to find out how their estimated net worths stack up against each other today in 2018.

Lisa Kudrow’s net worth is estimated to be $70 million

Although “Friends” was one of her biggest roles, Kudrow is still active in Hollywood, so it’s no surprise that Celebrity Net Worth estimates her to have pulled in around $70 million. Recently, she’s had guest-starring roles on shows like “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Grace and Frankie,” but her most notable role in recent years was starring in “The Comeback.”

Kudrow still speaks fondly of her time on “Friends,” most recently opening up to People about how supportive her cast mates were of her pregnancy while she was on the show.

Matt LeBlanc’s net worth is around $80 million

Celebrity Net Worth estimates LeBlanc’s net worth to be around $80 million. After the show wrapped, he starred in his own spinoff based on his “Friends” character, Joey Tribbiani, but it was canceled after only two seasons.

After “Joey,” LeBlanc starred in “Episodes,” as well as appearing on Kudrow’s show, “Web Therapy.”

LeBlanc is now starring in the CBS series “Man With A Plan,” which was recently renewed for a third season.

Matthew Perry’s net worth is around $80 million

Even after “Friends” wrapped, Perry still continued his career in TV and movies, and today, Celebrity Net Worth estimates he’s worth around $80 million. In 2009, he starred in “17 Again” opposite Zac Efron, and went on to star in short-lived shows like “Mr. Sunshine” and “Go On.”

Although Perry’s professional life has earned him plenty of cash, he has struggled in his personal life. After many years of substance abuse, in February, Perry returned to rehab. In September, Perry revealed that he’d been hospitalized for a gastrointestinal perforation that left him bedridden for three months.

These popular brands say Trump's tariffs are forcing them to raise prices

gap 2662

  • President Donald Trumphit China with tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods on Monday. This is the first time that consumer goods have been directly impacted by Trump's tariffs. China retaliated by announcing tariffs on $60 billion worth of US goods sent to China.
  • Trump imposed tariffs on manufacturing goods earlier in the year. He said import taxes are meant to help US manufacturers by making foreign products more expensive.
  • Several companies have either already raised their prices or say they plan to as a result of the tariffs.

President Donald Trump's tariffs are leading to higher import costs for US-based companies, and it's American consumers who are likely to bear the burden.

On Monday, Trump hit China with a 10% tax on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods. This was the first time consumer goods have been directly impacted by Trump's tariffs

While the White House has pointed to national security issues as justification for the tariffs, there's also a practical economic component to Trump's duties. The tariffs on foreign imports are designed to make foreign goods more expensive and therefore US manufacturers and products more appealing.

The latest tariffs, along with previous rounds on $50 billion of Chinese goods and metal imports, will mean that more than half of all Chinese goods coming into the US will be subject to the import taxes.

"The new tariffs are bad news for the retail sector, especially as the latest round seems to extend the tax to a vast array of consumer goods. Many retailers will now be faced with a difficult choice of whether to pass the cost increases across to consumers or to take a hit on their margins," Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, wrote in a comment emailed to Business Insider.

"Fortunately, the consumer is currently in a position to cope with some mild rises in retail prices. However, a rise in prices across the board will likely result in a decline in retail volumes over the longer term, which will be unhelpful to the sector," he added.

Since Trump's tariffs have been in place, several US companies including Coca-Cola and Winnebago have said they have been forced to raise prices on the consumer's side. Others are threatening to follow suit.

Here's a list of some of the best-known brands that have spoken out about Trump's tariffs and either raised prices already or say they plan to:

Walmart

Walmart sent a letter to the Trump administration, urging it to reconsider the latest tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods. The retailer warned that tariffs will likely result in it having to raise prices for the consumer.

"As the largest retailer in the United States and a major buyer of U.S. manufactured goods, we are very concerned about the impacts these tariffs would have on our business, our customers, our suppliers and the U.S. economy as a whole," Walmart wrote, according to Reuters.

The tariffs were approved on Monday.

Gap

In an interview with Bloomberg in September, Gap Inc CEO Art Peck explained that the apparel giant is keeping a close eye on the new tariffs on consumer goods. While the retailer has been making moves to move its manufacturing away from China, around 22% of its clothing is still made there.

"We are watching it very, very carefully, as you can imagine," Peck told Bloomberg. "In some cases, we'll have no choice but to pass the impact of these tariffs through to our consumers."

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola said on July 27 it would be raising the price of its sodas in the middle of the year.

"There is some broad-based push on input costs that have kind of come in and affected ours and many other industries as well," CEO James Quincey told The Wall Street Journal.

Quincey cited the steel and aluminum tariffs announced by Trump earlier this year as one of the causes of rising costs but did not specify how high the price increase would be.
