These 10 breakfast foods aren't as healthy as you might think

  • Some of the worst breakfast foods are often the ones we consider to be healthy.
  • Two nutritionists told us the surprising foods you shouldn't be eating for breakfast.
  • Protein shakes and fruit juices are high in sugar — swapping a solid meal for liquid isn't always the best idea.
  • There are plenty of healthier alternatives to the breakfasts you should avoid, like homemade smoothies and multi-grain bread with peanut butter.

In the age of hectic commutes and crazy work schedules, the most important meal of the day can be easily overlooked.

More and more doctors are stressing the need for a healthy breakfast. But what exactly is healthy? We know pancakes and waffles and other syrupy treats should be avoided — but some of the worst breakfast foods are often the ones we consider good for us.

We interviewed two nutritionists: Bonnie Taub-Dix, RDN, creator of BetterThanDieting.com and author of "Read It Before You Eat It - Taking You from Label to Table" and Lisa DeFazio, a registered dietitian nutritionist. Both gave us the skinny on the most surprising foods you shouldn't be eating for breakfast.

Keep scrolling to see what to avoid in the morning.

SEE ALSO: 7 ingredients to look for in your protein powder — and 6 to avoid

Granola bars are often just as bad as candy bars.

As is the case with most processed foods, checking the ingredient list is essential — and this couldn't be truer for granola bars.

Many bars are a good source of protein, but it's where nutrients like this come from that matters.

According to Taub-Dix, "If [the fat is] coming from nuts, then that would be a good source of fat. If the grains that are in that bar are whole grains, versus the carbs coming from sugar, then that would be something more positive."

Good alternative: Unprocessed oats, or KIND bars.

Jam is loaded with sugars and transfats.

Though it seems harmless, toast with jam is actually a trap for trans fats and can cause rebound hunger.

Most store-bought breads are processed and contain refined sugar, which leaves you with fewer nutrients and fiber. Since making homemade bread can be a hassle, this is hard to avoid.

But what you can change is the jelly, jam, or margarine. These are loaded with sugars and transfats that are highly inflammatory and increase risk for disease.

Good alternative: Almond butter. According to Taub-Dix, the protein in almond butter makes it very filling, too. "If, for example, in your smoothie you put something like a tablespoon of almond butter — that's going to last longer in your system even though it's in a more liquefied form because of the fat that would be in there, and the protein," she says. "It'll last longer and make you feel like you've had something more solid to consume."

Protein shakes can have a deceptive amount of sugar in them.

Many protein shakes market themselves as weight loss guarantors. But swapping a solid meal— like breakfast — for liquid isn't always the best idea.

Sure, doing so will lessen your daily calorie count. But when you eventually start eating solid foods in the morning again, if you're not careful, you could start to gain that weight right back.

For DeFazio, it's all about the ingredients — and that goes for any kind of shake or smoothie in the morning. "Some ready-made shakes have a lot of added sugar and artificial I ingredients," she says. "Having a shake with a lot of fruit may be a lot of sugar at once for your body to process."

Good alternative: DIY smoothie.

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

travelpro spinner

Everyone has the packing essentials they never travel without, but the list can look a little different for business travelers, who tend to take shorter, more frequent trips and must juggle packed schedules once they touch down at their destination.

Business travelers need to stay organized, connected, comfortable, and well-rested as they shuffle between time zones. Anything that helps achieve this balance makes for a happier — and more effective — businessperson, so before you send your most trusted employee off to the international office, make sure she has these products and services packed.

There are the obvious options, like a reliable, expandable carry-on suitcase and a portable battery pack, but also consider smart and innovative additions like work shoes you can actually walk a whole day in and a notebook that saves all your meeting scribbles to the cloud.

Here are 12 things that should be on every business traveler's packing list.

Wireless earbuds

Jabra Elite 65t Wireless Earbuds, $169.99, available at Amazon

While over-ear wireless headphones offer better sound quality, earbuds are better suited for travel when you have limited bag space. The battery life of these earbuds is five hours (15 hours with the charging case) and once you're off the plane, you can make clear phone calls because they're optimized with four-microphone technology. They're also Alexa-, Siri-, and Google Assistant-compatible. For an affordable, under-$100 option, check out these SoundCore wireless earbuds from Anker.

A foldable Bluetooth keyboard

Jelly Comb Pocket Size Portable Bluetooth Keyboard, $29.99, available at Amazon

If you're not packing your laptop but want to get some work done, this foldable keyboard that can connect to your tablet or phone will let you do so without taking up as much space. It's light and sturdy, but a drawback to its portability is that the key positions are squeezed together, so typing might not be as seamless of a process as usual. Still, the convenience might be worth the compromise

A battery pack

Jackery Bolt 6000 mAh Power Bank with Built-in Lightning Cable, $29.99, available at Amazon

It's always a good idea to have a battery pack on hand when you travel, and this doesn't change when you travel for business. While there are many battery packs on the market to choose from, our pick is Jackery's because its built-in cable charges your phone twice as fast as the original charger, and it's neither so small that it can only charge your device once nor so bulky that it weighs you down.

It is getting harder to retire with only $1 million saved up. Ten years ago, $1 million had the same buying power of just under $1.2 million, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator.

In a new study, SmartAsset calculated the average cost of living for retirees to see how many years $1 million would last in over 250 big and mid-sized US cities. SmartAsset looked at average annual expenses for seniors throughout the country and applied cost of living data on housing, food, healthcare, transportation, and utilities.

To determine how long $1 million would last in each city, SmartAsset assumed $1 million would grow at 2% rate of return (that's interest minus inflation). The sum of each annual number was divided by $1 million to calculate how many years it would last retirees.

Southern states dominated the list, with Texas claiming the most spots. Major cities in Texas have affordable housing markets and the state is home to many of the best places to live in 2018, according to US News.

The luxury outerwear brand's new flagship store in Short Hills, New Jersey, comes complete with a "cold room" that gets as cold as -13 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing shoppers to put coats to the test before buying them.

The store, which opened earlier this month, was inspired by Canada Goose's arctic roots, with features that are carved from marble and meant to mimic glaciers. It showcases photographs, drawings, and sculptures of polar bears by Canadian artists, but will also reflect the local aesthetic of the city, according to a company press release

The Short Hills store is one of three Canada Goose is opening this fall, including locations in Montreal and Vancouver. It currently operates seven retail stores, but this is the first one to include a cold room.

Here's everyone who has been charged and convicted in Mueller's Russia probe so far

Robert Mueller

Paul Manafort, former chairman of the Trump campaign, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges earlier this month and agreed to cooperate with the special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

Since taking over the investigation last May, Mueller's team has charged four Americans once affiliated with Trump's campaign or administration, 13 Russian nationals, 12 Russian intelligence officers, three Russian companies, and two other people.

Here's everyone who's been charged in the Mueller probe so far:

SEE ALSO: Meet Robert Mueller, the former FBI director and tenacious investigator leading the Trump-Russia probe

DON'T MISS: Paul Manafort found guilty of 8 counts of tax fraud, bank fraud, and failure to report foreign bank accounts

Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was found guilty on eight federal counts of bank and tax fraud and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice and one count of conspiracy against the US.

He also entered into a deal that included an agreement to cooperate with Mueller's investigation.

Manafort previously faced a total of 18 counts, but the 10 remaining were dismissed during the plea hearing after a judge declared mistrial in a Virginia trial.

He surrendered to federal authorities on October 30, 2017, after he was indicted, along with his business associate Rick Gates, on 12 counts, including conspiracy against the US and money laundering.

Manafort was forced to step down as Trump's campaign chairman in May 2016 after coming under fire for his connections to Russian oligarchs and his past lobbying efforts abroad.

Trump's former campaign chairman is accused of committing crimes while working as an unregistered lobbyist in the US for the Ukrainian government and pro-Russia interests beginning in 2006.

It wasn't immediately clear what information Manafort would offer investigators, but Trump's legal team spoke out to insist they weren't worried about the former campaign chief's deal.

Rick Gates, one of Manafort's business partners

In October 2017, Gates was indicted along with Manafort on 12 counts, including conspiracy against the US, making false statements, and failing to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts. He at first pleaded not guilty on all counts.

Gates joined Trump election efforts in the spring of 2016, working as Manafort's deputy. He traveled with Trump and grew close with many top campaign officials.

After Manafort was ousted as Trump's campaign chief in August 2016, Gates continued working on behalf of the soon-to-be president, helping fundraise $25 million for the pro-Trump nonprofit America First Policies and working on Trump's inaugural committee. As Mueller's probe intensified in the early months of the Trump administration, Gates left the nonprofit altogether.

But as recently as June 2017, The Daily Beast reported that Gates was still visiting the White House and working under Tom Barrack, who has remained one of Trump's most trusted advisers.

Gates opted to take a plea deal in late February, pleading guilty to one charge of lying to investigators and one charge of conspiracy in exchange for becoming a cooperating witness in the Mueller probe. He testified against Manafort as the prosecution's star witness in its case in Virginia.

Gates confessed to committing crimes with Manafort, and also stealing millions of dollars from his longtime business partner to finance an extramartial affair.

Defense attorneys sought to paint Gates as the mastermind of his and Manafort's tax and bank fraud.

George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign adviser

On the same day Mueller's office announced the indictments of Manafort and Gates, it was revealed that George Papadopoulos, a 30-year-old former Trump adviser, had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia.

According to documents that were unsealed by the Mueller investigation, Papadopoulos had made at least six attempts to set up a meeting between the Trump campaign and Russian representatives throughout the course of the 2016 presidential campaign, using a London-based professor named Joseph Mifsud and a female Russian national as conduits.

He was arrested October 5, 2017, and subsequently cooperated with Mueller's team.

Trump has described Papadopoulos as a low-level volunteer.

"Few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar," Trump tweeted following news of the guilty plea. "Check the DEMS!"

Special counsel Robert Mueller last week recommended that Papadopoulos be sentenced to as many as six months in prison.

17 ways to hack your workspace for optimal productivity

Rolf Schrömgens's Desk

  • Your workdesk and workspace can increase your productivity.
  • By increasing natural lighting, incorporating blue desk accents, and making sure you're moving around regularly, your office space can help you get more done.
  • Interior designers recommend ways to create a beautiful and productive environment.

There are podcasts, morning routines, hobbies, and even procrastination techniques that can make you more productive.

But there's one thing that might be missing from your arsenal of time-management hacks: optimizing your work desk and workspace for ultimate productivity.

Office designers from Michigan, Colorado, Washington, D.C., and New York shared tips for making your space attuned to a productive workday.

SEE ALSO: A look at the work desks of 7 successful people

DON'T MISS: Employees might like snacks, treadmill desks, and office dogs — but there's a perk they like much more

Bring in some plants

Plants are an easy way to beautify your desk and improve your workplace air quality. Research shows that employees in workspaces with plants are 15% more productive.

Choose a plant that can thrive on however much sunlight your desk gets, Christine Everett, senior designer at New York interior-design firm MKDA, told Business Insider.

Succulents are low maintenance and widely available, but they require lots of sun, she said. Better low-light options include the snake plant, pothos, and peace lily.

And if you don't have a green thumb, here's how to stop killing indoor plants.

Try to work near the sun

Sunlight isn't just for plants. Research suggests that workers with better window views perform better and are more productive than their peers with worse views.

"Lighting, both natural and artificial, is a major component in productivity and in employee health," Douglas Wyatt Hocking, a principal at architecture firm KPF, told Business Insider.

To tap into the power of natural light, work near a south-facing window, where sunlight will stream from the late morning to mid-afternoon.

If you can't get the sun at your desk, take a walk outside

Workers in windowless environments reported significantly lower well-being compared to those in a sunny office, according to a 2014 study from Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Try to get a few hours in the sun every day.

"Exposure to daylight is critical to maintain your body's circadian rhythm, which manages your cognition, serotonin production, and digestion," Everett told Business Insider. "We literally feel more awake and happy with exposure to daylight."

6 things other governments provide that Americans still have to pay for

$

usa flag fan american

  • The American government pays for a lot of things, but it doesn't cover everything other governments do.
  • Americans still need to pay for things like healthcare, college, and daycare out of their own pockets.
  • However, just because other governments pay for these benefits doesn't necessarily mean they're free — these countries often have higher tax rates, so taxpayer money can still fund benefits in the long run.

The American government spends money on a lot of things — national defense, veterans' benefits, income security, natural resources, energy, and environmental protection, to name a few.

But there are a few things the government doesn't cover that's left to American citizens to pay, like healthcare and college tuition— all things that are paid for by the government in some other countries around the world. Quite a few of these expenditures, such as maternity leave and daycare, are highly beneficial for parents.

However, it's worth noting that even in many of these countries, especially those in Europe, such social benefits aren't necessarily "free." These countries often have higher tax rates, giving the government more money to use on said benefits.

Here, six things Americans are paying for that citizens in other countries aren't.

DON'T MISS: How much the average American millennial, Gen Xer, and baby boomer spends each year on groceries

College

In the US, college tuition has more than doubled since the 1980s— and students are racking up an average of $17,126 in loans to pay for their school tuition as a result.

Many European countries, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland offer free college to citizens, However, the government pays for tuition with taxpayer money, so "free" is a relative cost. Europe traditionally has higher taxes than the US, enabling countries to offer additional social services, Business Insider's Abby Jackson previously reported.

Healthcare

The US is the only wealthy, industrialized country that doesn't have universal healthcare. Some say this model gives people more options, allowing them to pick the right plan for them, while others argue that government-funded healthcare reduces cost and offers a stronger social safety net, according to Business Insider's Chris Weller

"Life is much easier when your healthcare is covered without thinking about it," a resident of Finland, which has single-payer healthcare, told Weller. "I have lived many years in a country where people have to choose whether they have or don't have coverage for their health. Single-payer health care is easy and fair, providing basic security for all people regarding their health."

Vacation

In America, businesses voluntarily provide paid vacation leave. Without a national paid leave policy, nearly 25% of US workers go without time off, according to the Boston Globe, citing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If they want to go on vacation, they have to give up a day's salary worth to do so.

In fact, the US is the only advanced economy without a paid vacation policy, reports the Boston Globe, citing the World Policy Analysis Center at the University of California Los Angeles. Only 13 countries are in the same boat. Most offer universal paid vacation policies— in the UK, employees receive about 28 days of paid leave, and in Denmark, workers get 25 days of paid annual leave.

5 new Google gadgets that leaked ahead of the company's big October event

Google

Google is hosting a Made By Google event on October 9 in New York City, where the company is expected to announce several new devices.

That would explain, then, the recent slew of rumors and leaks about new Google gadgets.

We're fully expecting the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL to be announced at the event, considering it was this time last year that Google announced the Pixel 2 smartphones. Leaks and rumors about the new Pixel 3 smartphones have been emerging for the last couple of months, too.

More recently, two new rumored devices have leaked. Not included here is the Google Pixel Watch smartwatch, as the company itself came out and confirmed that it won't be announcing a Pixel Watch this year.

Check out what the rumor mill thinks Google has in store for us on October 9:

SEE ALSO: The company behind the $530 smartphone that's as good as the iPhone will release its first-ever TV

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

The biggest announcement we're expecting at Google's October 9 event is a pair of new smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL.

So far, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL's designs have leaked like a bucket after an encounter with a shotgun. In summary, both phones will look a lot like their predecessors with a few refinements. The major change will be a notched display on the Pixel 3 XL. The smaller Pixel 3 will get a slightly more modern design refresh, but it'll still have sizable bezels.

Spec-wise, we're expecting improvements to the already-fantastic Pixel 2 cameras, despite the possibility that both new smartphones will come with a single-lens camera system.

The new Pixel 3 smartphones are also likely to run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chip.

For some, the additional rumor about wireless charging support on the Pixel 3 smartphones is exciting. Google has notably omitted wireless charging from its Pixel devices so far while other flagships have had the feature for some time.

A smart screen device called Google Home Hub

Google may also announce a new smart screen device called the Google Home Hub, which will essentially function similarly to Google's Home smart speakers powered by Google Assistant, but with a seven-inch touchscreen.

Google's Home Hub wouldn't be the first device with a screen that has Google Assistant built-in. Lenovo has a smart device called the Lenovo Smart Display. If you want an idea of what Google's Home Hub will do, checking out Lenovo's device would be a good place to start.

It's pretty straightforward based on the leaked documentation obtained by MySmartPrice. The display will add a visual element while interacting with Google's AI smart assistant, Google Assistant. You'll get the information you've always received from Google Assistant, your Google Home, or other smart speaker, like the weather, calendar events, commuting information, news, and any other useful data with the added bonus of seeing the information rather than simply hearing it.

As you'd expect, Google Assistant inside the Google Home Hub will answer your question to the best of its abilities. And it's pretty good at answering your questions. If you use Google Assistant on a smartphone, you might get an idea of what you can do and the kind of information you'll get on a Google Home Hub.

Google "Nocturne" Pixelbook tablet

Kevin Tofel of the Chromebook website AboutChromebooks is confident that Google will announce new Chromebook tablets at its October 9 event, citing evidence found by XDA-Developers.

The new Chromebooks are said to come in a tablet form that's designed to be attached and detached to a keyboard. Tofel recently discovered new Chromebook keyboards in the online store of tech accessory company Brydge. Attached to the new keyboards are perhaps the new Pixelbook Chromebooks, Tofel believes.

There may be two new Chromebooks, according to Tofel. One will have a 4K display and the other a slightly less sharp 1600p display.

16 unbelievable ways that life in the US has changed in the past 100 years

model t ford car

The world we live in moves so quickly — there are things we use today that will be obsolete by 2020 — that it's no surprise that it was completely different a mere century ago.

Take a look around your home — 100 years ago, there were no fridges, or microwaves, or hairdryers, and very rarely did someone have a bathroom, let alone two or three. Your medicine cabinet wouldn't be filled with Advil or Tylenol, but over-the-counter heroin or mercury.

Keep scrolling to see 16 things that were the norm in the US in 1918.

There was essentially only one type of car, the Model T, and barely anyone drove.

Before the invention of the Model T (also known as a Tin Lizzie) in 1908, car ownership wasn't feasible for the everyday American. But, once the somewhat affordable, $850 car hit the streets, people all over the country began learning how to drive.

It's hard to imagine almost no one learning how to drive, and only having one real option to choose from — in 2009, 87% of the driving-aged population had driver's licenses, and today there are hundreds of car brands and models to choose from.

Horse and buggies were commonplace.

It apparently took cars 50 years to fully unseat horses as the preferred mode of transportation.

One of the reasons why is that horses were also useful in rural areas, where they doubled as both transportation and work hands — cars aren't exactly helpful in that way.

Now, riding in a horse and buggy is mainly just a tourist activity.

Letters and parcels were largely mailed by trains, trucks, or even motorcycles — the first airmail ever was sent in May 1918.

Today, communication can be transmitted instantaneously by email or phone, but back in 1918 that luxury didn't exist.

While the US Postal Service is still around today, it's continually losing money as less and less people are mailing things. One hundred years ago though, people were marveling at the idea of flying mail across the country.

The best TV reboots and revivals of all time — and the worst

$

Roseanne

Reboots. Revivals. Returns.

It's hard to classify the craze of TV shows being brought back to life. Some return with all-new casts and storylines, and others pick up exactly where the original show left off as if nothing happened.

But as the new "Roseanne" and other reboots before it have proven, they can be a hit with audiences and critics alike. Even though "Roseanne" was canceled in May after star Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist remark, it premiered in April to over 18 million viewers.

Reboots can also be duds, though.

Business Insider looked at 23 notable TV reboots and ranked them worst to best, based on how well they did with critics (using critic scores from review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes).

We based the ranking on the average of the reboot's available season critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes — most only had one season. We also included the average critic score for the original series, when available, for comparison. In the case of ties, the reboot with the higher audience score came out on top.

Below are 23 notable TV reboots, ranked worst to best by critics:

SEE ALSO: America's prominent movie-theater chains, ranked from best to worst by audiences

23. "MacGyver" (2016-present on CBS)

Critic score of reboot: 26%

Original series run: 1985-1992 on ABC

What critics said: "It is trying very, very hard to fit in. It has the right elements; what it hasn't yet quite figured out yet, though, is how to combine them into something that will be truly explosive."— Megan Garber, The Atlantic

22. "Fuller House" (2016-present on Netflix)

Critic score of reboot: 33%

Original series run ("Full House"): 1987-1995 on ABC

What critics said: "By lazily throwing everything at the wall without a single element sticking, Fuller House stands as a threat to memories of an older generation and future memories of a younger one. How rude, indeed."— Ben Travers, Indiewire

21. "90210" (2008-2013 on The CW)

Critic score of reboot: 43% (Audience score: 35%)

Original series run ("Beverly Hills, 90210"): 1990-2000 on Fox

What critics said: "Lacking Gossip Girl's unrepentant edge or The OC's big heart, the new 90210's only chance for a long life is if it divests itself of all the skinny teens and concentrates on the second childhood of the class of 91."— Jonathan Bernstein, Guardian

Each cable comes with a velcro strap for tying up extra cord when you don't need it. PowerLine cables come in 1-foot, 3-foot, 6-foot, and 10-foot lengths to suit everyone's needs.

If you want a different cable, check out our full buying guide to the best lightning cables.

Pros: Made from durable aramid fiber, lots of lengths, 18-month warranty, fast charging, reinforced stress points, and it's MFi certified by Apple

Cons: None

A stand and grip for your phone

Why you'll love them: PopSocket grips are fun, customizable grips for your phone that double as a stand when you want to watch videos.

If you struggle to hold your phone one-handed, you need a PopSocket grip. These fun little grips stick on the back of your iPhone and pop out once or twice to give you the grip you need. You can also use your PopSocket grip as a stand when you want to watch videos or just prop your phone up on a table.

You can get PopSocket grips in a bunch of fun designs, including everything from animals and fun prints to solid colors and branded designs from franchises like sports teams and fandoms. Most cost just $9.99, though there are more expensive designs for $14.99 and so on.

I have one on my phone and I love it. I've bought several to give to family and friends. As someone who used to get hand cramps from an iPhone 6 Plus, I can say that PopSocket grips have actually changed my life for the better. It's easier to hold my new iPhone X, I have a secure grip so I don't worry about dropping it, and I can touch any part of the screen one-handed.

The only downside is that PopSocket grips can be hard to unstick over time, so if you need to switch cases or something, you'll have a hard time. It also adds some thickness to your phone, so wireless charging may be a no-go with the iPhone X, 8, or Plus when you have a PopSocket grip on the back.

Pros: Tons of fun designs, affordable, effective, good grip, work as a stand

Cons: Hard to unstick over time

Buy PopSocket grips for $9.99 and up based on design

A wireless charger

Why you'll love it: If you just bought an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus, you need a wireless charger like theBelkin Boost Up Qi Wireless Charging Pad, the Mophie Wireless Charging Base, or Anker's PowerWave pad and stand.

Both the Belkin and Mophie wireless charging pads are specially made for the iPhone and they're sold directly on Apple's website. Both of the chargers charge at 7.5 Watts so that your iPhone juices up more quickly than it would with other charging pads.

They look beautiful and have a smart design with a good grippy surface so your phone won't fall off while charging. Both should work with slim cases, though bulkier cases may make it harder to charge wirelessly, so keep that in mind.

The Mophie charging pad comes in black, while the Belkin one is white. Otherwise, the differences are negligible. I've tested both of these charging pads with great success and highly recommend them.

We also really like the Anker PowerWave 7.5 Pad and the PowerWave 7.5 Stand because these chargers can charge your iPhone even when it's in a thick case.

However, if you prefer another model that's cheaper or has a different look, check out our full guide to all the best wireless chargers you can buy.

Pros: Sleek design, rubbery grip, optimized for iPhone

Cons: A bit pricey

Buy the Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad on Amazon for $44.99 (originally $59.99)

Buy the Mophie Wireless Charging Base from Apple for $59.95

Buy the Anker PowerWave 7.5 Pad on Amazon for $31.99 (originally $79.99)

Buy the Anker PowerWave 7.5 Stand on Amazon for $49.99

University of Georgia's $63 million stadium upgrade includes a new locker room, a lounge for recruits, and shows how swanky football facilities have become

The Georgia Bulldogs have been dominant on the gridiron to start the season. Thanks to three dominant victories in which the Bulldogs outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points per contest, Georgia has once again landed at the top of the college football rankings and looks primed to return to the College Football Playoff for the second time in as many years.

Perhaps even more impressive than the Bulldogs' play, however, is their brand-new locker room and stadium renovation, which shows just how over-the-top and luxurious college football facilities have become. The "West End Zone Project" took 16 months to complete and cost the university an estimated $63 million, which was raised primarily through The Georgia Bulldog Club's leadership fundraising entity, The Magill Society.

Georgia's new stomping grounds feature an upgraded locker room, a new lounge for hosting recruits on game days, restroom and concession area renovations, a new scoreboard, and an expanded upper plaza.

Check out some images of the 120,000 square-foot renovation:

Georgia's "West End Zone project" at Sanford Stadium was designed by HOK, the architect firm responsible for many stadiums around the world.

"Sanford Stadium is one of our feature showpieces," Smith said. "To be able to enjoy that environment and have a great place to host [recruits] on game day, that's a great advantage."

A giant signature "G" on the ceiling greets visitors and players as they enter the brand-new locker room, which is twice the size of its predecessor.

10 bread alternatives to try if you want to cut down on carbs

breadcrumbs

Fresh bread and delicious homemade pastries are nothing short of delicious, but some of our favorite baked goodies don’t always love as back, as they can contain high amounts of carbohydrates and calories.

Although the thought of cutting bread out of your diet may seem terrifying, you’ll be glad to know that there are plenty of low-carb alternatives to bread worth checking out that doesn’t sacrifice taste or flavor.

Below we spoke to some experts on all those easy swaps you can make if you are looking to pass on the high-carb overload altogether.

Use cauliflower rice for pizza crust

“A great alternative to normal, carb-heavy rice, cauliflower can be mixed with eggs and some ground almonds to make a delicious pizza base,” said Frida Harju-Westman, an in-house nutritionist at health app Lifesum. The prep time is a lot less than with bread-based pizzas, and the result is both tasty and healthy, she said.

Instead of waffles try butternut squash

Harju-Westman suggested that butternut squash can surprisingly be a good waffle swap. “Cut the vegetable into a waffle-sized piece, add a bit of oil, and then set to bake,” she advised. Make sure that the butternut squash is cooked through and golden on both sides, she said, and serve with your favorite choice of toppings.

Instead of sandwich bread try cloud bread

“Cloud bread is a homemade, tasty, gluten-free alternative to the bread we normally use for sandwiches,” Harju-Westman told INSIDER. Primarily made from separated eggs and cream cheese, she explained that cloud bread is a low-carb and low-calorie alternative that can be used for sandwiches, burgers, and even pizzas.

How Kylie Jenner has changed throughout every season of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians'

kendall kylie keeping up with the kardashiansWhen "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" debuted on our screens in 2007, most of the Kardashian-Jenner family members were unknown, with the most famous member being Caitlyn Jenner, known for her Olympic success.

But we all know how much has changed in 11 years — now, every member of the family is a celebrity in their own right, with the youngest Jenner sisters on track to become even more famous than their older siblings.

Kylie Jenner was only 10 years old when the show premiered, and on season one, she was simply a precocious little kid enjoying time with her family. Now, Jenner is on the cusp of becoming the world's youngest self-made billionaire, with a reported net worth on track to reach $1 billion.

At 21, she not only has lucrative endorsement and modeling deals, but she’s at the helm of her own makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics… and she’s also a mom to baby Stormi, of course.

Here’s how Kylie Jenner has changed throughout every season of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

On season one, she shocked audiences by dancing on a stripper pole.

The two youngest Jenner sisters seemed to live a pretty normal life during that first season of the show … if normal means having cameras following your every move, that is. Kylie was all about having fun and getting into hijinks with Kendall, like the time their half-brother Brody Jenner was babysitting and decided to film Kylie playing with her parents’ stripper pole.

It certainly wasn’t as scandalous as it seems, but Kris and Caitlyn were not happy with Brody for recording her mini "Girls Gone Wild" skit. They also irritated their dad when Kris let the girls bring home a fluffy little puppy, Bella because even famous people disagree over puppy training.

Kylie begins growing up during season two.

The family’s burgeoning fame didn't impact the youngest members much, and Kylie was still a pretty normal tween in season two. Still, Khloé attempted to teach her little sisters about puberty, and Kylie was certainly more game to discuss her bodily changes than Kendall, who is shy about it all.

The early stages of Kylie’s love of makeup appear on season three.

Now that members of the family were bona fide celebrities, they became busier and busier, appearing in magazine and ad campaigns, and traveling the world. Kylie was now on the cusp of becoming a teenager, starts experimenting with makeup, much to the chagrin of dad.

Kylie and Kendall were also afraid when they overheard their parents discussing Caitlyn’s colonoscopy, thinking that their dad might be ill. Caitlyn was anxious to explain it to them, but the girls were relieved to learn it's a simple procedure that pretty much every adult goes through.

The wild story behind how a photographer snapped one of the most amazing eclipse photos ever taken

Jon Carmichael Eclipse 108 All Rights Reseverd Online

Astronomy photographer Jon Carmichael knew he wanted to capture 2017's total solar eclipse on camera — he just didn't quite know how.

Millions of Americans watched the event unfold last August, making it one of the most-photographed in history. And Carmichael felt the pressure.

He studied the eclipse's path, and realized that a Southwest Airlines flight from Portland to St. Louis would put him in the perfect geographical — and physical — location to photograph the event.

So he booked a ticket.

Keep reading to see how he achieved what's being hailed "the most amazing photo ever taken from a commercial airplane."

Carmichael was ready to bribe a passenger for a window seat. Luckily, he didn't have to — and the entire flight crew got on board with his mission.

Southwest doesn't offer pre-assigned seats, so Carmichael came prepared to pay somebody for one facing the right window.

But once he explained his vision to the flight crew, they assured him he would get a great seat — and the captain actually cleaned Carmichael's window to make sure it was crystal clear.

The pilots actually circled the eclipse a few times so passengers could witness the once-in-a-lifetime event. That's when Carmichael captured his stunning photo.

"In photography, it's very rare for something you envision to manifest itself, let alone to turn out even better than you had hoped," he said.

"I had never felt more relieved, grateful, and excited in my life. Against all odds, it came together. It felt meant to be — and literally changed my life,” he told My Modern Met.

"We're all one. We're all connected. And if you keep viewing the world as a pale blue dot, as Carl Sagan would say, it humbles you — and we all could use an ego check. And take care of each other"he said

7 games to watch in college football this weekend

Bryce Love

Week 4 of the college football season is here, and that means another Saturday of non-stop action.

Like most weekends in the fall, there is no shortage of games to choose from. But even though it is still early in the season, we already have a sense of which teams are in the playoff hunt and which games are the most important.

This week we have five ranked teams on the road and two head-t0-head matchups of Top-25 teams. All the games have playoff implications.

Here are the can't-miss college football games to watch this weekend.

(2) Georgia @ Missouri

Network and Time: ESPN, 12:00 p.m. ET

Records: Both teams are 3-0

CFB Playoff Power Rankings: Georgia (2)

Why it is important: Georgia looked to be on Alabama's level until the Tide went into Oxford and laid 62 points on a good Ole Miss team. Meanwhile, you always worry at this time of year when a highly ranked team goes on the road against a decent opponent. Sometimes the Madden computer decides today is not your day no matter how good you are.

(8) Notre Dame @ Wake Forest

Network and Time: ABC, 12:00 p.m. ET

Records: Notre Dame (3-0), Wake Forest (2-1)

CFB Playoff Power Rankings: Notre Dame (8)

Why it is important: The Irish are in danger of starting the season 4-0 and losing respect among those who matter. This is the second-straight week where Notre Dame needs not only a win but a convincing win. Inferior opponents have given them too much trouble early on.

(22) Texas A&M @ (1) Alabama

Network and Time: CBS, 3:30 p.m. ET

Records: Texas A&M (2-1), Alabama (3-0)

CFB Playoff Power Rankings: Texas A&M (20), Alabama (1)

Why it is important: Keep in mind, A&M gave Clemson a tough game already this season. Of course, that wasn't Alabama, and it wasn't on the road. Still, Jimbo Fisher is a former Nick Saban assistant, and eventually one of those apples is going take down the tree.

16 condiments from around the world that you should try

condiments

Condiments don't always get the credit they deserve for adding flavor to a meal. Whether they're sweet, sour, salty, or spicy (or umami, as the case may be), jams, pastes, and other scrumptious accompaniments deserve kudos for enlivening entrées and sides alike.

Here are 15 condiments from around the world, from Georgian plum sauce to Dijon mustard.

Tkemali is a Georgian sauce made from sour plums.

It may not be a familiar condiment outside of eastern Europe, but tkemali ― named for the cherry plum, which grows in abundance in Georgia ― lends a tangy flavor to everything from grilled meats to potato dishes.

The sauce, which is comprised of plums and a blend of herbs and spices, such as coriander and pennyroyal, can be made from ripe or unripe plums depending on the time of year.

Common throughout the Balkans, ajvar is a red pepper relish that originates in Serbia.

Made from roasted and puréed red peppers (and sometimes eggplant), ajvar (pronounced "eye-var") is a simple, but flavorful Serbian condiment. It's traditionally eaten atop a southeastern European sausage called cevapi and can also be enjoyed as a spread or side dish.

Scandinavians add color and flavor to Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jam.

If you've taken a trip to IKEA, you've probably encountered lingonberry jam in the store's cafe. Ranging from sweet to tart, this vibrant jam typically accompanies Swedish meatballs or toast.

Here's the most important export from every US state

  • The US Census Bureau publishes data on international trade for each of the 50 US states and Washington, DC.
  • Business Insider took a look at the biggest export good from each state, based on total 2016 dollar value.

International trade is a big part of the US economy, and of the individual state economies that together make up the larger whole.

The US Census Bureau publishes data on international trade for each of the 50 states and Washington, DC, including lists of the top-25 exported goods from each state by dollar value. Based on that, Business Insider took a look at the highest-volume export good from each state, based on total 2016 dollar value.

Exports of aircraft and aircraft parts were the most common category, with 17 states having their biggest export coming from that group.

It's worth noting the Census data include only trade in physical goods: The US economy is predominantly a service economy, and international trade in services — like an architecture firm based in Chicago designing a building in the UK, or a financial advisor on Wall Street managing a retirement account for a resident of Japan — are not included in this particular data set.

Here's the biggest export good from each state, based on 2016 dollar value:
