Here's The Awesome Presentation That Jeff Gundlach Just Gave To Investors At The New York Yacht Club

Gundlach presentation

DoubleLine Funds' Jeffrey Gundlach just delivered a presentation titled 'What Hath QE Wrought' to investors at the New York Yacht Club.

Gundlach argued that as the Fed unwinds its monthly asset purchase program it is likely to inflict some pain on the U.S. economy.

Recently, there had been some chatter about interest rates rising faster than previously expected.

But the latest FOMC minutes stated that "several participants noted that the increase in the median projection overstated the shift in the projections."

And that this should not be "misconstrued as indicating a move by the Committee to a less accommodative reaction function."

Gundlach says that if the Fed can successfully unwind its quantitative easing (QE) program it would be one of the greatest discoveries of our time.

Note: Gundlach first delivered this presentation in March 2014.

Canal House

First paper, then food, now homes printing sure has come a long way since the Gutenberg press.

The city of Amsterdam will now have the distinct honor of being home to the world's first 3D-printed house

Conceived of by Dutch DUS Architects, Canal House will have 13 rooms created by an oversized 3D printer called KamerMaker ("room builder").

The printer creates large bricks from layers of molten plastic, which builders can stack like Legos. The stacked plastic bricks will ultimately become the framework for each room, and will snap together to become the world's first 3D printed house.

Construction on the house has already started in the northern part of Amsterdam, and is projected to take three years.

"The 3D Print Canal House is a unique project because it is a building site, a museum and a research facility in one," says Hans Vermeulen of DUS architects. "By 3D printing the first building block we celebrate the start of researching the possibilities of digital fabrication for the building industry."

Canal House model"We hope that in three years time the excitement of the visitors is still as fresh as today, and that the house has developed into a mature 3D printed building with different rooms, each with different constructions and material properties that all tell something about the time that they were printed,” said Hedwig Heinsman of DUS.Canal House opening dayAt the site, you can see 3D printed models as well as full-size versions that are printed '"live" by the KamerMaker. Visitors can also listen to an audio tour on their smart phone explaining the whole building process.

It has already turned into quite the tourist attraction  President Obama even stopped by in late March.

16 Surprising Facts You Didn't Know About Popular Songs

Britney Spears, Baby One More TimeThere are plenty of unknown stories behind popular songs that have become part of our lives.

Some famous songs were initially rejected, written for someone else, by someone else, or have hidden meaning in the lyrics.

From Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" to Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A.," learn the surprising stories behind your favorite songs.

Justin Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body” was originally written by Pharrell for Michael Jackson.

One of the best songs on Justin Timberlake's debut solo album, "Justified," was meant for Michael Jackson.

Timberlake's "Rock Your Body," which was also written by Pharrell Williams and The Neptunes, was supposed to be on Michael Jackson's final album "Invincible." However, Jackson's management ultimately rejected the song and it ended up with the beat-boxing Timberlake instead.

For JT, this helped jumpstart his solo career with "Justified" debuting at No. 2 and selling more than 3.5 million copies in the U.S.

Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" was originally written for Celine Dion.

1998's "Armageddon" would have sounded a lot differently if not for Aerosmith's power ballad "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing."

Especially if it went to the artist it was intended for ... Celine Dion.

Since the film starred singer Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, the band was set to write a song for the soundtrack. Yet with the band running low on time and ideas, they went with a song written by Diane Warren for Dion.

"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" went on to hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, get nominated for an Oscar, and become one of Aerosmith's biggest hits.

Kurt Cobain accidentally named Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" after a deodorant for teenage girls.

Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ushered in the age of grunge, and changed music forever.

However, the song takes on a new meaning when you realize its title was a complete accident that had to do with a deodorant for teenage girls.

Katherine Hanna, the lead singer of Bikini Kill (and band mate of Cobain's girlfriend at the time), scribbled the phrase on Cobain's wall as a joke about his smelling like the female deodorant "Teen Spirit.

Cobain — mistaking it for a rebellious phrase — turned it into a song title, helping "Nevermind" to sell 30 million albums worldwide.

19 Haunting Photos Of Cyprus's Frozen-In-Time Contested Zone

United Nations Buffer Zone

On July 20, 1974, Turkish soldiers invaded the island of Cyprus. The invasion, which the Turks claimed was aimed at protecting Turkish Cypriots from persecution, ended up splitting the island almost exactly in half.

For the past 40 years Cyprus has remained divided between the southern Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which has only been recognized by Turkey. The rest of the international community considers Northern Cyprus to be a Turkish-occupied territory, and the Turkish Army maintains a large force on the island.

The dividing line is the United Nations Buffer Zone, which cuts straight through the capital Nicosia and across the rest of the island.

Ranging from 11 feet at its narrowest to 4.6 miles at its widest, the zone was hastily evacuated during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. It has remained uninhabited, effectively frozen in time.

The United Nations Buffer Zone cuts through the entirety of Cyprus.

The Nicosia International Airport was contained within the zone and has since been unused.

Even the airport's planes were left behind to rot.

Our First Impressions Of Dell's MacBook Air Look-Alike

Not many gadgets try to compete with Apple at the high-end these days.

Despite Apple's famous dominance of expensive gadgets, that's exactly the impression I got from my first day with the Dell XPS 13 laptop.

As an Ultrabook, the XPS is clearly meant to compete against Apple's MacBook Air.

But instead of making a cheap, slim-and-light "me-too" gadget, Dell packed a touchscreen with 1080p resolution into a body that looks and feels premium.

That quality comes at a surprising cost: Dell's laptop actually costs $1,299, $100 more than a MacBook Air with roughly the same processor and memory.

Here's the box Dell's laptop came in — not exactly the sexiest package in the world.

Thankfully, that package contained a smaller box with a design that better reflects the price of the device within.

It opens like a chest, only to reveal the XPS safely tucked away in padding.

Step Inside Chelsea Market, The Giant Food Mecca Where Googlers Go When They're Sick Of Free Lunch

Google was one of the first major tech companies to open offices in New York City, fueling what has become a serious tech boom on the East Coast.

And now the internet search giant is expanding its already large footprint in the city, signing on for another 75,000 square feet at Chelsea Market, according to Crain's New York

Employees who work in the company's Chelsea Market space and across the street at Google's New York headquarters are incredibly lucky. Chelsea Market isn't your typical office building — its most attractive feature is a massive food market on the first floor, offering high-quality food to tourists and locals alike.

We recently paid a visit to Chelsea Market to get a feel for the scene. We found a lunchtime atmosphere that would be extremely attractive to any company, with food options that are diverse and tasty enough to pull Googlers away from their free lunches.

Chelsea Market is located in a hip neighborhood on the west side of Manhattan.

The structure itself is huge, taking up the entire block. With its recent expansion, Google now has nearly 400,000 square feet on the second and fourth floors of the market. Several media companies, like MLB.com and the Food Network, lease space in the upper floors of the building.

Google's New York City headquarters are right across the street at 111 Eighth Avenue, in the former Port Authority building. The search giant reportedly paid $1.8 billion for the building in 2010, and it's so big that its elevators can accommodate 18-wheeler trucks.

Some brands are instantly recognizable by the color of their logos. Bright yellow arches on the horizon let you know a McDonald's is nearby. There's a good chance a big brown truck is delivering packages for UPS.

These colors are forever associated with these companies, but what emotions are they triggering in your subconscious?

FinancesOnline.com and Ruby Media Group gathered some findings from color psychology research and put together a report explaining the primary color associations behind some of the most recognizable logos:

Red is associated with fire and blood, and evokes intensity, action, emotion, passion, trust, and aggression.

Blue is associated with the sky and sea, and evokes comfort, faith, conservativeness, understanding, clarity, calm, and trust.

Yellow is associated with sunshine, and evokes joy, vivacity, energy, and freshness.

Meet The Big Shots Who Live At 15 Central Park West, The World's Most Powerful Address

There are plenty of legendary addresses in New York City, but 15 Central Park West stands out.

The ultra-luxury condominium on the corner of West 61st St. and Central Park West has been home to a long list of bankers, celebrities, and assorted bold-faced names, including Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and Sting.

Author Michael Gross, who recently released a history of the condo called "House of Outrageous Fortune,"calls it the world's most powerful address.

Unlike many of New York's history-filled apartment buildings — especially its main rival across the park — 15 Central Park West is a relative newcomer.

Completed in 2008 by developers Arthur and William Lie Zeckendorf, it offers a ridiculous array of amenities to New York's moneyed elite, including an in-house chef, a skylighted lap pool, and a private screening room.

15 Central Park West took three years and about $1 billion to construct, including the land. It was an immediate success, ringing up $2 billion in sales. Even today, the building continues to break real-estate sales records.

Check Out Solar Impulse, The Solar-Powered Airplane That Can Fly Forever

Screen Shot 2014 04 11 at 10.00.43 AM

Solar Impulse is a Swiss aircraft designed for long-range flights, traveling under the power of nothing more than sunlight, and it's gearing up to complete a flight around the world in 2015.

The plane employs 17,248 solar cells to harness the sun's energy. As the sun sets, the plane switches over to the energy stored in its batteries. Solar Impulse can, in theory, perpetually stay aloft for as long as a pilot wants to fly.

This is a project dreamed up by Bertrand Piccard, a Swiss who co-piloted a non-stop balloon flight around the world in 1999, and André Borschberg, a Swiss businessman.

Piccard has a family history of exploring — his father was a noted undersea explorer and his grandfather was a prominent balloonist too. Borschberg leads the technical team that actually builds the systems that make Solar Impulse work. The two undertook the project as a means of demonstrating that "pioneering spirit, innovation, and clean technologies can change the world."

Here's the public unveiling of the airplane's design in 2007. Check out that wingspan!

These Beautiful Photos Show The Epicenter Of America’s Lowrider Culture

Photographer Nathanael Turner moved from the East Coast to Los Angeles a couple of years ago. Shortly after arriving, Businessweek contracted the newcomer to document an event he saw as quintessentially Californian — the Torres Family Empire Lowrider Convention

A "lowrider"is a vehicle that's been modified so it rides lower to the ground than originally specified in an effort to improve performance and aesthetics. The practice originated with Mexican-Americans in California during the 1950s and has since become an important part of the culture for many.

The Businessweek assignment ended up getting canceled, but Turner, who is fascinated with West Coast culture, went to the lowrider convention anyway. Once there, he witnessed an event marked by two conflicting parts of Southern California’s Latino culture: strong family bonds and gang culture.

“I was surprised at how family-oriented it was,” Turner told Business Insider. “…There are definitely gang affiliations, but they all leave the gang stuff at home and just celebrate the car culture.”

Turner shared some of the photos with us here, but you can see the rest at his website

The Torres Family Empire Lowrider Convention occurs every July in Los Angeles. This year, it will be held at the L.A. Convention Center. 20120904 000084530010.JPGThe Convention advertises that 10,000 people come out to check out the cars. "Every single detail was incredibly ornate."20120904 000084450036.JPGAccording to Turner, even components under the hood, like the engine and axles, were customized.20120904 000084440003.JPGMost of the cars have elaborately painted murals. Most are either portraits of family or commemorate lost loved ones.20120904 000084560005.JPGTurner says that everyone at the convention was very friendly and excited to show him their cars.20120904 000084560003.JPGThe attendees are predominantly Hispanic, but they come from all over the West Coast, including neighboring states like Nevada and Arizona.20120904 000084450006.JPGThe convention celebrates different aspects of Latino culture. 20120904 000084590003.JPGThe biggest event of the day is a car-hopping competition. Everyone comes out to watch.20120904 000084640002.JPGDuring the competition, contestants test their cars to see how high they can make them bounce. The cars achieve the bounce through the activation of a remote-control hydraulic suspension. 20120904 000084600001.JPGActivating the hydraulics is tricky. Failing to time the activation of the hydraulics properly could lead to the car either not bouncing that high or to come crashing to the ground. 20120904 000084470034.JPGAt the end of the day, the car clubs compete for who has the best lowrider.
