Samsung's newest phone, the Galaxy Note Edge, has a curved screen that comes with a bunch of extra features.

It can also do a bunch of things its rivals the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus can't do. Here's a quick look at some of the most important exclusive features found in the Galaxy Note Edge.

You can check your heart rate with a sensor on the back of the phone.

The "night clock" displays the time when the main screen is off. It's good if you use your phone as your alarm clock.

You can answer a call without exiting the app you're using.

40 Under 40: People To Watch In 2015

$

Elizabeth Holmes, Theranos

Age, as they say, ain't nothing but a number, and that's especially true when it comes to how much a person can achieve at a young age.

We found the most inspiring innovators, entrepreneurs, and activists under the age of 40 around the world. These people disrupt industries — spanning finance, tech, sports, entertainment, media, science, food, and retail — with their revolutionary new companies, products, and ideas.

In 2015, this incredible group of individuals will be worth watching.

Alexa Von Tobel's company will demystify financial literacy.

Von Tobel, a former Morgan Stanley trader and Harvard Business School dropout, calls her company "Weight Watchers for money." She has built an easy-to-follow online guide and community that make managing finances easier than ever — and that is valued at almost a quarter of a billion dollars.

As founder and CEO of LearnVest, Tobel oversees a team of more than 130 people, steers the growth of the company, and even finds time to do some financial planning for customers herself. The 29-year-old authored her first book, "Financially Fearless," at the end of last year, and she made the cover of Forbes earlier this fall.

Adam Braun will continue to create better access to education for almost 30,000 kids around the world.

An eye-opening trip to India inspired Adam Braun, 31, to found his award-winning non-profit, Pencils of Promise. The organization builds schools in impoverished communities around the world, and so far it has broken ground on about 250 schools, providing better access to education to nearly 30,000 children who would not have had the same educational opportunities otherwise.

Students at schools built by PoP reportedly score three times higher on language literacy tests than their peers. Braun published his first book, "The Promise of a Pencil," last March; it placed No. 2 on The New York Times' bestseller list.

Billie Whitehouse will create fashionable "smart" clothing.

Venture capitalists call her"the female Elon Musk." Billie Whitehouse, 27, cofounded a fashion retailer that makes garments that have technology built into the fibers. Unlike the light-up, clunky fitness bracelets that dominate the market, Wearable Experiments' designs are subtle, washable, and interactive in entirely new ways.

Whitehouse and cofounder Ben Moir's garments include Fundawear, underwear with vibrators in them that are controlled via mobile app; Alert Shirt, an athletic jersey that imitates in real-time the sensations an athlete feels during game play; and Navigate, a blazer that vibrates in the shoulder pads to indicate which direction you should turn to reach your destination.

Striking Photos Show How Much China Has Changed In Just 30 Years

China Changes

Few countries have changed in the last few decades as much as China.

What used to be a mainly rural, under-developed country is now the world's largest economy, one who's cities are growing at a massive rate.

Little remains of its not-so-distant past.

A group of Reuters photographers have matched up pictures from China in the 1980s and 1990s with the latest photos from the country of today.

The results are staggering.

Three decades ago, buses had to fight with pedestrians and cyclists for space on the roads, as in this picture from Beijing in 1984.

Today, China has some of the busiest and most advanced metropolitan highways systems in the world.

China's cities have long experienced crowded commutes. This photo from 1991 shows a Shanghai thoroughfare clogged with bicycle commuters.

Mark Zuckerberg

Very few people get it right the first time.

If you find yourself needing to change your business's direction or revenue model, know that you're in good company.

Names like Zuckerberg and brands like Twitter have all had to make some adjustments to how their businesses operate.

And in these cases, the pivot paid off nicely.

This is an updated article originally written by Dylan Love.

Yelp

Then: Yelp started as a more complicated version of its current iteration. Back in 2004 when it was founded, Yelp created an email system so users could contact others to recommend local businesses.

Now: They've cut out the noise, and Yelp now lets users look for reviews of businesses themselves.

Groupon

Then: Groupon started as ThePoint.com. Launched in November 2007, the site let you start campaigns asking people to give money or do something as a group — but only once a "tipping point" of people agree to participate.

Now: Groupon is a website that lets you pick from its marketplace of deals. You can book a vacation on Groupon Getaways or get a restaurant reservation in your city for a steal. Groupon went public in November 2011.

Flickr

Then: Flickr used to be Game Neverending, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that ran from 2002-2004.

Now: Flickr is one of the go-to sites for sharing photos online, popular among amateur and professional photographers. It sold to Yahoo in 2007 for $40 million.

According to the listing, several rooms are available in the home that Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook team lived in during the early days of the social network.

Zuckerberg lived in the Westbrook Avenue home from September 2004 until January 2005, court documents show. He only purchased the bare minimum of furniture — a couch, table, and some chairs — and piled his clothes on the floor instead of buying a dresser.

It seems that the current residents have furnished it a bit more.

Nineteen of UNESCO's Worlds Heritage Sites, protected for their outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity, are in serious danger of disappearing in the next few years.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature released Wednesday the list of almost 200 of locations in the world protected for their landscape and biodiversity.

It is mainly good news: more than two-thirds of these sites are safe and prospering. However, more than two dozen sites are still listed as critically endangered.

Most of these are in Africa, with five in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are threatened by pollution and human encroachment, such as wars and development.

Air and Ténéré Natural Reserve, Niger. Home to some of the most beautiful dunes in Africa.

Comoé Natural Park, Côte d'Ivoire. Located in the west of the country, the Comoé is a unique sanctuary for biodiversity.

A majority of the student body is involved in either sports, clubs, or the arts, or even all three. Head-Royce encourages their students to be individuals while being a part of a whole.

Peer pressure was not an issue when I went to school here and in my experience, we practiced acceptance of any individuals and their differences. New ‘Instant Makeover’ Boob Job Claims To Last 24 Hours And Take 20 Minutes

For women who have always been curious about breast enhancement but were too nervous to go under the knife, there's a new procedure that claims to enlarge breasts for 24 hours.

Dr. Norman M. Rowe, a plastic surgeon in Manhattan, has been injecting saline solution into women's breasts for five years as a way of temporarily expanding them, according to The New York Times.

It's being called the “Insta Breast,” and was originally a way for Dr. Rowe's patients to see what they would look like before they had a breast augmentation. The 20-minute procedure lasts for around 24 hours before the saline — which is essentially salt water — is absorbed by the body.

But now some women are doing it just for an instant lift for parties, vacations, and events like weddings. The cost? Between $2,500 and $3,500, according to ABC News.

Compare that to a regular breast augmentation, which typically costs around $4,200 and requires about two weeks of recovery.

There are some risks to the procedure. Doctors warned ABC News that whenever you insert a needle or scalpel into the skin, there’s a risk of infection, nerve damage, or a hematoma.

Dr. Michael C. Edwards, a plastic surgeon in Las Vegas, told the Times that while he sees no harm in the Insta Breast, it could stretch out the skin. “You’re altering the architecture of the breast,” he told the Times. “I would be concerned that you would be taking away some intrinsic support in the breast.”

Dr. Rowe says that he hasn’t seen any infections, just bruising from his clients.

goodwin breast enhancement abc news salineKali Goodwin, a 27-year-old New Yorker, let ABC News follow her to her appointment. “It’s my boyfriend’s and my fifth anniversary,” she explained to the camera. “I got this really great dress and I’m kind of hoping at year five this will be a bigger night than most.”

After a successful first procedure, she is now considering a second Insta Breast lift to make sure she wants to buy a breast augmentation.

“If I’m going to go ahead and spend all the money for an actual surgery what’s another $3,500 to make myself feel 100% confident with my decision,” she told ABC News.

Striking Photos Of The Homeless Community That Lived Beneath Manhattan

The Urban Cave

New York City has a long and sordid history with its homeless. While the city has been attempting to deal with the problem for years, the issues still persists.

In fact, since 2006, the number of homeless people have steadily risen, reaching all-time highs of over 58,000 homeless people sleeping in shelters each night.

And those numbers don't account for New York's homeless who seek refuge on the streets.

Photographer and filmmaker Andrea Star Reese discovered a community of such people, living in makeshift dwelling inside a 2.5-mile long Amtrak tunnel on Manhattan's west side. Over the course of 7 years, Reese met and photographed many of them, gaining intimate access to their lives.

She found that the people she met, mostly shunned by society and living in relative squalor, were strong, resilient, and had knowledge to share.

"They took care of one another, saved lives, stood together against predators and extended comfort to the damaged, to the sad," Reese tells Business Insider.

Reese's work has been compiled into a new photo book, titled "The Urban Cave," which will be made available soon. You can see more photos can been seen on her website and on her Kickstarter page.

The section where the homeless seek shelter is a stretch of tunnel that runs 2.5 miles from 72nd street to 122nd street in Manhattan, directly under Riverside Park. It was used for freight trains until 1980, after which a well-documented shanty town evolved at its south end, reported to house roughly 100 people.

In 1991 it reopened for use as an Amtrak tunnel, triggering a massive eviction of the homeless living there. But as time went on, more people moved back in, making homes in small crevices and in rafters.

Reese was in need of a subject for photojournalism class she was taking in 2007, and recalled the evictions in the tunnel during the '90s. She decided to explore the south end, the opposite end of the tunnel where the evictions occurred.

4 Things To Tell Your Barber When You Get A Haircut

$

barber1

It's really easy to make sure your haircut is perfect every time.

All that's required is a little bit of forethought and a few key facts to remember to tell your barber.

Good barbers will sometimes ask these questions all on their own, but if not, take a proactive approach. After all, it's your hair.

So the next time your barber asks, "what are we doing today?", this is exactly what you should say:

1. Tell your barber how long it has been since your most recent haircut

Barbers know how long it takes for hair to grow, so if you tell them how long it has been since your hair was last cut, they can imagine what your hair looked like way back when.

From there, you can either tell them you want it to look the same or describe how you want it to be different from last time.

And don't worry — different people's hair doesn't really grow at different rates. That's a myth, Boston-based barber Van Capizzano at Ball and Buck told Business Insider.

2. Tell your barber about your lifestyle

To give you a cut you'll love, your barber needs to know more about you, according to barber Kyle Holbrook of Fellow Barber in San Francisco.

Tell your barber where you work, what you do for fun, where you go on the weekends, how you wear your hair, whether you put product in it every day, and anything else you think might be helpful.

Essentially, you want your barber to give you a cut that will fit seamlessly into your lifestyle and reflect your personality, Holbrook told us.

3. Be specific about how you want your hair to look

This may seem simple, but most guys aren't doing it right. Some aren't even doing it all.

Barbers are experts in their craft, but they aren't mind readers. You can't just expect them to fill in the gaps. Don't just say "short on the sides, long on the top." That's not enough for them to go on.

Here's some terminology to use to get the haircut you want:

  • When specifying how long you want your hair to be, inches are the best figure (1 inch, 1 1/2 inches, etc.).

  • It can also be helpful to know the specific number of the clippers you want your barber to use. If you don't know what setting of clippers you prefer, ask your barber to start with a longer setting and progressively get shorter until you find a style you like.

  • Men with longer hair especially need to be clear about how much hair they want cut off. Most will tell the barber just to keep the hair off their collar. This gives a neat, professional look.

  • Men with longer hair might also ask for a layered cut, which gives more movement and dimension to longer hairstyles.

  • If you don't want your sides to be all the same length, ask for a tapered cut, which means your hair gets gradually longer toward the top of your head.

  • Make sure to specify how sharp you want your hair's transition from long to short to be. For no transition, ask for a shaved part (long on top, buzzed on the sides). For a more conservative style, ask for a natural or blended transition.

  • For more manageable hair, ask the barber to add some texture to the top. Texturing will thin out the bulk of your hair and is great for anyone with thicker hair.

  • You can either ask for a tapered (natural) neckline or a squared (block)neckline in the back. A tapered neckline will follow your natural hairline, while a block hairline cuts straight across. Most men opt for the tapered neckline, which usually looks more natural.

  • Tell your barber how long you want your fringe (aka bangs) to be in the front, and if you sweep it to the side or style it in any way.

The goal is to be specific enough that your barber will know exactly what you're imagining.

4. Bring a picture (but only of your hair)

As Capizzano puts it, "barbers are visual people." Pictures really help barbers visualize what you're looking for in a haircut and serve as a great guide.

There's a catch though — the best photo you can bring in to show your barber is a picture of yourself after a haircut that you really liked. A picture of someone else's hair doesn't take into account your hair's individual traits, like thickness, texture, and hair line.

12 Movie Sequels That Took 10 Years Or More To Hit Theaters

Dumb and Dumber To

"Dumb and Dumber To" finally opens in theaters this weekend.

The sequel to the 1994 Farrelly brother's hit reunites original costars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels on screen 20 after the initial hit.

"Dumb and Dumber" is one of the most recent films to receive the belated-sequel treatment. In the next few years, even more "Star Wars,"“Toy Story," and “Terminator” movies will be coming our way.

But just because Hollywood is bringing back a classic, doesn't mean it will be a hit the second (or third or fourth) time around.

We've rounded up 12 other movie sequels that have taken more than a decade to come to theaters, in order from least amount of time between films to most.

This post was originally written by Keertana Sastry with additional reporting by Frank Pallotta.

“The X Files: I Want to Believe” came out 10 years later in 2008.

A decade after the cult success of the first “X Files” movie, creator Chris Carter reteamed with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as Scully and Mulder for the sequel.

What should have been an exciting and tense adventure — the plot involved a priest that had visions of grisly crimes — became difficult to understand and ridiculously dull. The only thing it had going for it was the remaining chemistry between its main stars. The movie pulled in $68 million at the box office.

“Men in Black III” came out a decade after the second film in 2012.

It took J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) 10 years to return to the secret alien fighting division after a lackluster sequel in 2002.

The third film in the series changed up the "MIB" fomula by introducing time travel and a great Tommy Lee Jones impression by Josh Brolin who played a younger version of Jones's character. Reviews were pretty positive and the film became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2012 with over $624 million worldwide.

We had to wait 11 years for “Toy Story 3” to come out in 2010.

"Toy Story 3" was released 11 years after the successful "Toy Story 2." Both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprised their roles of Woody and Buzz Lightyear along with the introduction of many new characters.

For fans and critics alike, the film became arguably the best in the series with it becoming one of the highest-animated films of all time and winning Best Animated Feature at the 2010 Academy Awards. Pixar is going to try their luck again with the franchise with "Toy Story 4" in 2017.

These 6 All-Weather Supercars Can Handle Winter Weather

$
0

Car Collage

The New York area got its first threat of winter weather on Friday — falling temperatures and precipitation set the stage for the prospect of snow.

Snow!

Not such a joyful winter wonderland prospect, actually, after last year's traumatic season.

But it did get us thinking about what happens when you combine hot cars and a cold climate.

In the winter, the southern areas of the world are able to continue using their exotic cars without any worries about an influx of cold weather from mother nature.

People in northern areas have it a little differently.

While convertibles are roaming freely around Miami, cars in the North need to have their battery chargers hooked up, car covers put on — or have been stashed in winter storage.

They will stay that way until at least all the snow has melted and the salt is cleared off of the roads, which means there will not be excitement on the highways and byways until at least March or April.

But there has to be some way to keep a supercar on the road in these colder environments, doesn't there?

Supercars are starting to bridge the gap to become usable everyday rides. Visibility has improved, reliability is better, and more manufacturers have started to incorporate all-wheel-drive systems into their sexiest rides.

All-wheel-drive is the key factor. In slippery conditions, AWD will provide more confidence to a driver than a rear-wheel-drive car would.

Of course, in true snowy conditions, all wheel drive is useless without dedicated snow tires. But on a damp, cold morning, having four driven wheels will inspire confidence in the driver.

If you're in the market for a supercar but don't want to store it all winter, we've taken the time to choose some AWD rides that will work for you all year long.

[An earlier version of this article was written by Travis Okulski.]

If you want a classic, the Lamborghini LM002 is a fine choice. This is the first all wheel drive Lamborghini and was also powered by the Countach's awesome V12.

If the LM002 is a little too rugged, perhaps a Porsche 911 Turbo is the right choice. With up to 530 horsepower in Turbo S guise, this thing is quick; it hits 60 mph in a shade over 3 seconds.

The Audi RS6, which unfortunately is not available in America, may look like a standard station wagon, but it is anything but. This wagon is powered by a twin-turbo V10 engine good for 570 horsepower, so its powerful and practical.

The Staten Island mansion made famous by the Corleone family in "The Godfather" is on sale for $2.9 million.

The mansion was the location for several famous scenes in the 1972 film, like Connie Corleone's wedding and Don Corleone's memorable "You ask me to do murder" scene.

The house was originally built in 1930 for former Staten Island borough president Joseph Palma.
"Godfather" actor Gianni Russo from the film showed the house to producers because he grew up down the street.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom house has been renovated with more modern furniture and brighter colors, and the backyard now sports a pool. There are custom moldings throughout the house, and the basement now boasts an English pub.

Despite a gut renovation of the property in 2012, the outside of the house still has the English Tudor style with a very green yard.

The backyard now has a pool.

The 6,248-square-foot home sits on grounds measuring 24,000 square feet.

Here's How Apple Can Make Its Next iPhone Design A Lot Better

Though Apple releases a new iPhone every year, it only typically changes the physical look of the phone every two years. So we may see the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus next year, but we'll probably get a brand new iPhone design in 2016.

To give us an idea of what the next iPhone might look like, concept designer Martin Hajek collaborated with Business Insider to explore the next evolution of iPhone.

When looking at what could carry over from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone 7, it's important to note that some features like display and bezel are more likely to change than others like the home button, which is now a vital feature thanks to Touch ID and Apple Pay.

But people have been speculating about an edge-to-edge iPhone display for some time, and Apple could potentially introduce such a display with the iPhone 7, which Hajek explores.

Here, Hajek has shown what an iPhone 7 with hardly any bezel along the edge could look like, keeping the 4.7-inch display in the iPhone 6 but expanding it to the phone's borders.

To create a smaller top bezel, Hajek moved the speaker to the top of the iPhone.

Here's a closer look at the edge-to-edge display.

China Airlines Boeing 777-300ER

Taiwan's China Airlines recently took delivery of its first new Boeing 777-300ER. While the airline is keen on the new Boeing's lightweight construction and increased fuel economy, what's really going to thrill passengers is the upgraded interior.

For its new 777s, the Taipei-based airline has given its premium business class cabin and its premium economy seating a facelift. And the coach setup is now truly unique.

The airline’s new 777-300ER represents the beginning of a new era for China Airlines and the people of Taiwan,” president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Ray Conner said in a statement.

“A [with] the many Boeing models before it, we are confident that the 777-300ER will continue to help China Airlines open up new markets and expand its horizons, as they continue to achieve tremendous success.”

All in all, China Airlines' new 777s will have seating for 358 passengers, with 40 in premium business, 62 in premium economy, and 256 in economy.

For much of the past decade, the undisputed king of airline service has been Singapore Airlines.

This is for good reason. Singapore's first class suites, business class seats, and overall service have received unanimous praise.

Google Tel Aviv Office

Google set up offices in Tel Aviv at the end of 2012.

As with most Google offices, the place looks incredible. What follows is a gallery of the new office. You really have to see it to believe it.

There are trees, picnic tables, and wild design all over the place. It's a touch cluttered in spots, but overall really nice.

The office is being used for sales, marketing, and engineering. It takes up seven of eight floors of the building.

It was designed by Camenzind Evolution, which worked with Setter Architects and Studio Yaron Tal. Google has worked with Camenzind in the past.
