546bb3492a3d21fa285c79ac_2 lisbon gorgeousForget Paris and Rome—travelers in the know are going gaga for Lisbon.

Once one of western Europe's most underrated capitals, Portugal's largest city is suddenly on everybody's radar, and not a moment too soon.

Here are a few reasons you should pack your bags and head over as soon as possible.

DON'T FORGET: Follow Business Insider's Lifestyle page on Facebook!

It's cheap

Popular western European destinations like London, Paris, and Rome can be staggeringly expensive. Lisbon, on the other hand, offers the same old-world ambiance at a bargain. Most of the city's attractions are free or inexpensive to enter, and the local food and wine offer high quality at low prices. Family-run inns, known as pensaos, are not only more affordable than your typical hotel, but they also provide a more authentic experience.

It's gorgeous

From the wide, tree-lined Avenida de Liberdade, to the brightly painted houses in Baixa and Alfama, to the majestic arches in Terreiro de Paço (Lisbon's sprawling central square), Lisbon's streets are filled with whimsy, romance, and vibrancy. Don't forget to look down as you stroll: ornate tilework, a Portuguese trademark, adorn a number of the city's sidewalks.

The climate is ideal

Lisbon's position on the coast means it has great weather year round. It's sunny and warm from late May through October, while winters are mild, with blustery weather and snow rare. That's great news for off-season travelers.

9 surprising things your physical appearance says about you

Pretty Woman

You're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that doesn't stop us from judging one another by our looks.

There's a lot a person will assume about you based on your physical appearance — from how trustworthy you are to whether or not you're an extrovert. Your appearance can also reveal things about your health, such as your likelihood of developing certain diseases.

Here are just a few of the things your body can reveal about you.

SEE ALSO: 9 things doctors can tell about your health just by looking at your eyes

CHECK OUT: Plastic surgery doesn't make your face more attractive, science says

People can (accurately) judge your personality from a photo.

They say first appearances can be deceptive. But people can tell a surprising amount about your personality from a photograph, one study found.

The study involved showing people photos of 123 undergrads at the University of Texas at Austin in two poses: one where they were told to face the camera with a neutral expression, and one in which they could pose however they wanted.

Then, strangers were asked to judge them on certain aspects of their personality. No matter what position they took, viewers were surprisingly accurate: While people were better at judging someone's extroversion, self-esteem, religiosity, agreeableness, and conscientiousness when they were spontaneous, they could also judge the first 3 traits when they were posed.

People judge your physical strength based on your facial bone structure.

Scientists recently did a study where they showed people photos of 10 different people with five different facial expressions, and asked them to rate how friendly, trustworthy, or strong the person in the photo appeared.

Not surprisingly, viewers tended to rank people with a happy expression as more friendly and trustworthy than those with angry expressions. But when it came to traits like physical strength, broad faces were seen as stronger.

Women are attracted to "manly" men during certain times of their cycle.

A woman's romantic preferences can vary over the course of her menstrual cycle, some research suggests. A 2010 study of 66 heterosexual couples found that women whose partners had less-masculine faces said they were more attracted to other men when they were ovulating. By contrast, women with masculine-faced partners felt less likely to stray.

But that's not the whole story, though: Other studies suggest that women who are on the pill prefer men with less manly faces.

How Jon Stewart innovated political discourse in America and changed late-night TV forever

Obama Daily Show

Jon Stewart's final night hosting "The Daily Show" is upon us.

Thursday evening, Stewart will host an especially long episode – at least 50 minutes according to Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless. No one knows who his guests are or what's planned, but it's certain to be a massive celebration.

But we're not here to speculate on Stewart's last night. This piece is about looking back at the lasting impact of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on both late-nite comedy and political discourse in America. Stewart's beloved for his ability to make us laugh – no doubt – but he's even more celebrated for his ability to highlight the absurdity of the American political system, from politicians to pundits to media, and everything in between.

Jon Stewart wasn't always the politically-minded "Daily Show" host we know and love. He took over for original host Craig Kilborn in January of 1999, and much of his first years were spent finding his voice.

The first episode featured plenty of political commentary and a few nods to what the show would become.

He ended it with a speech telling viewers: "I'm sure many of you are curious, 'Is my beloved Daily Show going to change?' Well, it might. Subtly. And, I know change can be painful, but from change comes growth." Stewart said during his premiere episode. "I'm a new member of this family, your family, and I'll be here for you every night," he added.

His coverage of former President Clinton's impeachment proceedings were comical, but ultimately lighthearted. It wasn't until the election debacle of 2000 that Stewart's political focus sharpened.

Stewart, alongside Colbert, attacked the November 7, 2000 election night head-on. The show became an hour-long special for the evening, and the subsequent month of debate over whether George W. Bush or Al Gore won the election became a flashpoint for Stewart's pointed commentary on the American political system.

Jon Stewart

After 16 years, we sadly had to say goodbye to Jon Stewart, who took his last exit from "The Daily Show" Thursday night.

But, Stewart had a lot of friends who wanted to say farewell.

From former correspondents to politicians to "The Boss," here is everyone who made an appearance on Stewart's final night.

Things started with Stewart introducing his current correspondents as they were "covering" the evening's first Republican presidential debate of the 2016 election.

Africa's wealthy elite is expanding at a dramatic pace. In fact, according to a report by New World Wealth, the number of African millionaires has risen at twice the pace of the rest of the world in the last 15 years.

Though huge parts of Africa remain locked in extreme poverty, it's impossible to miss the emergence of ultra-wealthy individuals.

Here we've included the nations where the number of HNWI (high net worth individuals) has risen by more than 100% in the 15 years between 2000 and 2014. New World Wealth defines HNWIs as people with net assets of $1 million (£645,000) or more.

Overall in Africa, the number of HNWIs has risen by 145% over the period, while the world in general has seen an increase of 73%.

16. Uganda — a 116% increase in HNW individuals between 2000 and 2014 just sneaks Uganda onto the list, with 1,300 millionaires in the country now.

15. Morocco — The fifth largest African economy (and the second in north Africa) now has 4,800 millionaires, a rise of 118% since 2000.

Friday's jobs report is huge.

The Fed has reiterated time and again that interest rate hikes will be done with a focus on economic data.

All reports ahead of the September meeting of the FOMC, when many analysts expect the first rate hike, will be closely watched.

To get you ready for the big report, we compiled the 11 estimates from some of Wall Street's top analysts.

Expectations range from 200,000 to 250,000 with most expecting the unemployment rate to stay unchanged at 5.3%.

Check out all of the estimates below:

Paul Ashworth, Capital Economics

Non-Farm Payroll Gains: 250,000

Unemployment Rate: 5.3%

Comment: "The average monthly gain in employment clearly slowed in the first half of the year. But the slowdown was from an unsustainably high pace in the final quarter of last year, so it is not a big concern, particularly not if it reflects a pick-up in productivity growth."

John Silvia, Wells Fargo

Non-Farm Payroll Gains: 240,000

Unemployment Rate: 5.3%

Comment: "Secondary employment indicators, including initial jobless claims and national/regional business sentiment employment indices (including the largest monthly gain on record from the ISM non-manufacturing employment index), support our above consensus call."

Brian Jones, Societe Generale

Non-Farm Payroll Gains: 240,000

Unemployment Rate: 5.2%

Comment: "Several factors underpin our call for a pickup in job growth. While both initial and continuing jobless claims were little changed between the two latest canvassing periods, improved hiring breadth and modestly better weather conditions in July point to an increase from the 222K positions created in June."

It's no secret that Floyd Mayweather loves to flaunt his wealth.

On his Instagram page, he is known to post photos and videos of his ultra-luxurious life, which is filled with a multi-million dollar collection of supercars. His garage covers most of the top-end brands: Bugatti, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and more.

Earlier this year, Mayweather posted a photo of his three Bugatti Veyrons with the caption "$6.2 million spent for just three cars that don't depreciate, only appreciate." Only 450 Veyrons were ever produced.

Mayweather purchased the Bugattis from Fusion Luxury Motors in North Los Angeles, which he touts as "the best luxury car dealership in the world" on his Instagram.

Obi Okeke, one of the owners of Fusion, feels "very fortunate" to have such a high-spending and high-profile client in Mayweather. He says Mayweather will stop in about once a month just to see what's available and if there is anything he wants to buy.

"As of a couple months ago, it was reported that he had bought about 39 cars from me," says Okeke. "It may be like 40 or 41, and we're working on a few more deals."

With the top car almost hitting $4 million, here are the most expensive cars currently available in the exotic car dealer's inventory.

Last May, Snapchat made its first acquisition in AddLive, a real-time communications startup that allows the picture-messaging app to power its video-calling feature. The deal cost Snapchat $30 million.

AddLive's technology offers several useful tools to Snapchat, including screen-sharing, multiparty conferencing, and support for browser-based video chat via WebRTC.

Facebook

Cofounder and CEO: Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook has been quietly busy this year with new features. For example, it acquired a video startup called QuickFire, which could help streamline the increased video consumption on Facebook.

At Facebook’s annual F8 developers' conference, David Marcus, head of messaging products, made a big announcement regarding Facebook Messenger: expansion into e-commerce and mobile payments inside the app. Marcus has helped the company roll out several other features as well, including a Skype-like video-calling service and the ability to send locations to friends.

The League

Founder and CEO:Amanda Bradford

The League is like a curated Tinder for elites, and it raised $2.1 million in seed funding earlier this year to play matchmaker to the most successful and ambitious singles. The League launched in San Francisco at the beginning of 2015 and just opened up to the New York market as well, where a targeted group of 2,500 users were allowed to sign up.

The goal, founder Bradford says, is to make more power couples and help people date "intelligently." The app now has its sights set on London.

The 15 most affordable cities in the US for single people

Memphis

Cost-conscious singles don’t experience the same financial benefits as their coupled counterparts — they don't have a partner with whom to split major bills, and they don't get to enjoy the dual income.

A 2013 analysis by Lisa Arnold and Christina Campbell of Onely.org found that legal and private sector policies ranging from Social Security to health care can drive up the cost of being unmarried to more than $1 million over the course of a lifetime.

To help singles get the most bang for their buck, GOBankingRates analyzed 89 major U.S. cities, seeing where singles can find the most savings in their lifestyle expenses by comparing local costs of rent, wardrobe staples, date nights and gym memberships.

Read on to see the 15 most affordable cities for single people.

15. Chattanooga, Tennessee

At an average of $78, date night in Chattanooga tops the list as the most inexpensive city for an evening out. Clothing staples and rent come in at No. 7 and No. 10 in the affordability rankings, respectively. But with an average gym membership price of $49 per month, you should expect to pay a premium for your monthly gym membership in this city.

14. Omaha, Nebraska

At No. 14, Omaha provides a "big city" feel for a small town cost. The average rent price is 92 cents per square foot, and the average cost of a date night is $93.70. But, compared with other cities, that's still a great deal for a major metropolitan area — and a good enough value for Warren Buffett.

13. Stockton, California

In Stockton, you can enjoy the proximity of the Silicon Valley and San Francisco without the astronomical cost of living. The average cost of rent per square foot is a surprisingly low 81 cents, and the average cost of a gym membership is a mere $32.48. Singles should consider their commute before making any moves though — a daily drive into the city could turn savings on housing into increased transportation costs.

Inside RollerCon: The world's largest roller derby convention in Las Vegas

$

rollercon11

RollerCon is the largest roller derby convention in the world and is hosted annually in Las Vegas.

It's effectively the Mecca for anyone in the derby community, whether a skater, non-skating official (NSO), a referee, photographer, or even an avid fan.

Roller derby has evolved from the area of sports entertainment in the 1930s to one of the most brutal, yet rewarding and athletically challenging sports in the world. There are approximately 1,250 leagues across the globe and almost half of these are outside the US – the sport's place of birth.

Like all sports, the nitty gritty rules can become complicated but roller derby is kind of like rugby or American football, without a ball.

An official game has a roster of 14 players on each team and has two 30-minute halves. The game consists of a series of short bursts of play (up to two minutes in length), with four blockers and one jammer from each team on the track. The jammer has a star on their helmet and is the only player that can score by passing a player on the opposing team, after initially passing the pack of skaters in the first lap. The blockers try to hinder the opposing jammer by blocking, forming walls in front or around a jammer, or hitting while also assisting their own jammer.

Like I said, it gets complicated, so if you want to read up about it, check here. If you want to see some of it in action at RollerCon, then check out this slideshow!

I skate with the London-based league Croydon Roller Derby and this year was the first time I got to go to RollerCon.

This is me with all my gear on. What you can't see here are my roller derby skates and massive kneepads, shot by derby photographer Neil Biggs.

And this is why we wear so much protection. Roller derby is a full contact sport and we all fall over a lot. This is me during an annual outdoor tournament in Britain, only five days before RollerCon, called Eastbourne Extreme.

It has been used hundreds of times, in several languages, and adapted for such uses as electronic backdrops on CNN, Fox, and other news broadcasts. When developing a 1,200 year history of Iraq in maps, The National Geographic used only one source for its map of the recent conflict: ISW.

By the way, I know that Whole Foods is pricey compared to some other grocery chains, but it's also a national chain with organic options for most of its products, making it ideal for this comparison. Plus, it's near my office.

I scoured the aisles and compared the prices of 20 popular grocery items in their organic and non-organic forms. Also, I calculated about how much it would cost me (or you) each year to go the organic route, assuming I bought each item once per week.

Here's the breakdown:

Strawberries

I started in the produce section and was pleasantly surprised with the marginal price difference between organic and regular fruits and veggies:

Regular strawberries: $3.99 per pound

Organic strawberries: $4.49 per pound

Buying a pound of organic strawberries each week would cost you about $26 more than buying non-organic over the course of a year.

Bananas

Regular bananas: $0.79 per pound

Organic bananas: $0.89 per pound

Buying two pounds of organic bananas each week would cost you about $10 more than buying non-organic over the course of a year.

Peaches

Regular peaches: $3.49 per pound

Organic peaches: $3.99 per pound

Buying a pound of organic peaches each week would cost you about $26 more than buying non-organic over the course of a year.

One thing I noticed in the produce section was general disorganization — I found the organic peaches relatively quickly, but then struggled to find their regular counterpart, which ended up being all the way across the produce section. This held true for most of the fruits and veggies, and got me wondering how many times I bought the pricier organic simply because I couldn't find the regular option.
