The best jobs for every personality type

personality 3x4

Your level of job satisfaction may have something to do with how well your role fits your personality.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality test, which measures preferences like introversion and extroversion, has been part of business culture for decades.

Today about 80% of the Fortune 500 and 89 of Fortune 100 companies use it in an attempt to get employees into the right roles and help teams work well together.

To determine five of the best jobs for every personality, we consulted one of the most popular personality guides based on the Myers-Briggs system, "Do What You Are," which is now in its fifth edition and has sold more than 1 million copies. The book is not affiliated with CPP, the company that is the exclusive publisher of the MBTI instrument.

We also spoke with one of its authors, Paul Tieger. As CEO of SpeedReading People LLC, Tieger has spent 30 years advising companies and people on how personality types can help teams work together.

Of course, the job lists aren't meant to be definitive, but rather serve as a fun way to see how certain occupations attract a particular kind of person.

Figure out which type suits you best, and then check out the charts below.

DON'T MISS: People with this personality type are more likely to become entrepreneurs

According to this system, every person falls into one of two options in four categories.

Gap has been fighting to make its brand the cool status symbol it used to be.

In order to do this, the brand has started taking several steps to improve, including making major hires at the executive level and getting designs in stores faster.

Executives promised customers would see changes in stores by Spring 2016.

We recently took a trip to Gap on New York City's Fifth Avenue to see what the brand has changed.

We can already see some progress.

One major change is that the denim selection was strong. Denim is crucial for Gap. "I said before and I’ll just reiterate, we are pretty confident that the denim cycle has hit bottom and it has been coming back over the last several months," CEO Art Peck said on a recent earnings call.

"Denim is coming back which is a place that powers the brand and I believe we have really good product development in the pipeline," Peck said, "and those [denim and knits] are two big categories for the brand, so as be brand drivers for Gap."

The store was also selling denim jackets.

kalamazoo college

College towns are an appealing place to settle down, with their young, vibrant vibe, thrilling athletics, and wealth of job opportunities.

These perks tend to come with a price— if you head to Princeton, New Jersey, for example, expect to pay about $650,000 for a home.

However, there are more affordable options out there than you may think.

Realtor.com recently released a list of America's most and least expensive college towns ranked by median home price.

The site looked at more than 300 college towns — "college towns" defined as areas where student residents number over 5,000 and make up over 20% of the town's total population.

Here, we've highlighted the ten most affordable. We also included the cost of annual necessities (not including savings or discretionary spending) for a four person family (two adults, two children) using the Economic Policy Institute's (EPI) 2015 Family Budget Calculator.

SEE ALSO: The 10 most expensive college towns in America

10. Urbana-Champaign, Illinois

Median housing price: $140,000

Estimated cost of necessities: $72,245

Situated between the twin cities of Urbana and Champaign is The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a highly ranked public university enrolling 33,000 students. Residents enjoy a mixture of rich cultural experiences, as well as exciting Division I athletics — the Fighting Illini participate in over 20 NCAA Division I sports.

9. Carrollton, Georgia

Median housing price: $133,200

Estimated cost of necessities: $63,888

The small city of Carrollton, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, offers serene landscapes, but also the perks of a college town — gallery shows, sports events, and performances — thanks to The University of West Georgia. If you need a taste of big city life every once in a while, Atlanta is a quick 45-minute drive away.

8. Carbondale, Illinois

Median housing price: $128,500

Estimated cost of necessities: $63,621

Carbondale's economy relies on Southern Illinois University, a doctoral research university, and the university health system. What started as a state teacher-training school is now a national research institution offering over 200 undergraduate programs.

oslo norway metro

As people flock to cities, public transportation is the way of the future.

But that doesn't necessarily mean it's cheap.

Cities like Tokyo, where an unlimited day pass comes in at just under $5, are exceptional.

The day passes for these cities will leave your wallet weeping, so be prepared if you ever visit.

7. Munich, Germany

All-day fare: $13.50

Munich's system is unique in that travelers can purchase both single and partner tickets.

Companions reduce the cost per person from $13.50 to $8.34. But if you happen to be adventuring alone, expect the full fare.

6. Stockholm, Sweden

All-day fare: $13.60

Better buy your ticket before boarding the train or bus in Stockholm, or any other part of Sweden for that matter.

SL riders without a ticket will be charged a fee of roughly $142, since tickets can't be purchased onboard.

5. Oslo, Norway

All-day fare: $16.89

Like many European countries, travelers in Norway can purchase tickets based on how much ground they'll be covering.

Zones 1 and 2 cover the entire Metro system in Oslo and bus routes to the suburbs. The fare covers an all-day ticket for those two zones.

What it's like to live off the grid, according to a couple who moved to a fire lookout in the middle of the Oregon forest

Fire Lookout 2

Retired couple Alan Colley and Dabney Tompkins have chosen a rather unconventional location for their next home.

After stumbling upon a book about the US Forest Service, Colley and Tompkins were inspired to move into a fire lookout, a 40-foot tower that was historically used to spot forest fires.

"It was a magical moment that the book sort of fell off the shelf to us," Colley told Zillow. "We called the ranger district and said why don’t we rent this thing? That was the beginning."

After renting a few fire lookouts, they decided to purchase land on Summit Prairie in Oregon, where they would build their own tower from the ground up. At that point, the couple had already downsized from a Dallas estate to a 1,400-square-foot home in Portland.

What started as a weekend getaway eventually turned into a permanent residence.

"We decided to be totally irresponsible and quit our jobs and move here," Tompkins said to Zillow.

Living in a fire lookout — which, by the way, has no indoor bathroom — came with an interesting set of challenges.

Lookouts were used to spot forest fires from the early 20th century up until the 1960s, when they were replaced by satellites. To this day, very few fire lookouts remain standing.

Colley and Tompkins spent a few years camping around the area before settling on their property. In 2010, their getaway turned home was completed.

The fire lookout sits on 160 acres on land, much of which is a meadow. As they rise above the tree line, they boast 360-degree views of the land.

IBM's supercomputer Watson, after obliterating chess and Jeopardy champions, is now taking on culinary experts.

The free Chef Watson app takes the user's requested meal, style and ingredients, and concocts a recipe based on its knowledge of flavors that pair well.

Chef Watson had to undergo its own culinary training, called machine learning. It analyzed 10,000 recipes on Bon Appetit and looked for ingredients that often appeared together, and substituted ingredients.

I'm an adventurous eater, but I don't usually cook elaborate meals. So I wanted to try it for myself. To test Chef Watson, I followed the ingredients and steps as accurately as possible — but encountered a few surprises.

What Apple's market share looks like right before it launches iPhone 6S

iphone sales growth 2q15 1

Apple will launch its new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus phones in a few days time.

It's a tense time for the company: While new iPhones will bring new sales, those sales have not historically been as strong for the "S" update models. Customers prefer the all-new phones that carry new numbers, like the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 7 (expected in 2016).

Back in 2013-2014, when Apple launched its last S-model (the iPhone 5s), sales growth went through a "trough," as seen in this chart (click to enlarge). While sales still went up, the growth wasn't as strong as it had been before.

Just like last time, analysts and investors fear that Apple's sales growth may be hurt by the new S model. Partly because so many people have already bought the iPhone 6 (meaning there are fewer people who need a new phone right now). And partly because those who do need a new phone may be tempted to wait until next year for the even better models (Apple's phones are robust and last a long time).

Nonetheless, as we predicted back in February, iPhone 6 has put a huge dent in Android's dominance of the market (except in the US where, oddly, Android is stronger than ever). The challenge for iPhone 6S now is whether it can build on those gains or whether Android will simply recapture share while users wait for iPhone 7.

The following charts show historic market share trends for Apple v. Android, as tracked by Kantar.

In the UK, iPhone 6 has put a significant dent in Android.

Android used to take 60% of the market, now it only claims about 55%. Similarly, iPhone has established a new floor in the mid-30% range when it used to struggle to get 30% of users.

Similarly, Apple saw big gains in China — its most important new market— where Android demand was suppressed by iPhone 6

It looks like Apple established a beachhead above 20% of the market here.

More gains for Apple in France.

Here, Android has lost 6 points of share as Apple has gained more than 2.

10 incredible works of art that were built to be burned to the ground

nk guy art of burning man

There is no other festival quite like Burning Man.

Held for a week each summer in the middle of Nevada's Black Rock Desert, Burning Man is a temporary installation where participants can imagine and build their ideal society.

There's no cell service or internet, money doesn't work there, and artists spend months building enormous pieces that they only intend to burn down by the end of the week.

Writer and photographer NK Guy first made the trip to Burning Man in 1998, hoping that the festival would make for a great stop on a summer road trip.

"In many ways I was totally unprepared for what I'd encounter," Guy told Business Insider in an email. "It was like visiting a foreign country that you'd seen on a postcard — both familiar yet completely surreal. I felt I'd been transported to an alien planet, or to a movie set where the cameras aren't turning."

He's gone back to photograph the event every year since then. Guy has compiled many of his photos in a book called "Art of Burning Man," published by Taschen in August.

He shared some of his favorite shots from the book with Business Insider.

SEE ALSO: I went to Burning Man and it was even crazier than I expected

The Black Rock Desert, situated in a dry lakebed in Nevada, makes for an extremely dramatic backdrop.

Here, a group of burners paddle a rowboat near a pier that was constructed in a throwback to the area's past. A Spanish galleon is docked at the far end of the pier. "You can go from a brilliant golden sunrise to scorching intense heat at lunchtime to a choking dust storm in the afternoon to a pink desert twilight to intensely dark night – all within the space of a day," Guy said.

As you might imagine, photographing Burning Man comes with a daunting set of challenges.

"Dust storms are horrific to breathe in, and not great for fragile camera gear ... You can't drive in your car, so I had to carry around my equipment, including heavy tripods, by bike and foot," Guy said. "If the dust weren't bad enough, I've had years where a third of my shots were blank frames because the heat had melted the foam bumpers in my camera's shutter."

Though many people now travel to Burning Man for the parties, Guy's focus has always been the art produced for the event.

"Burning Man is one of the few places on Earth other than private homes and some religious institutions where nothing, including the art, can be bought or sold. The fact that the art isn't driven by commercial imperatives frees artists to take their work in very interesting directions," Guy said. Cupcake cars created by the "Acme Muffineering Team" certainly fit the bill.

Housing eats up a lot of our paycheck, but just how much?

We turned to the Economic Policy Institute to find out, which recently released a 2015 Family Budget Calculator measuring the annual cost of necessities to live a secure yet modest lifestyle.

The calculator estimates the costs of housing, food, child care, transportation, healthcare, other necessities, and taxes.

In this case, we looked specifically at the how much the EPI estimates a family of four and single people are paying for monthly rent in the most expensive metropolitan areas in the US.

Housing costs are based on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) fair market rents, and include shelter and all tenant-paid utilities (excluding telephone service, cable, and internet). Studio apartments were used for one-person households, and two-bedroom apartments were used for families with two children.

Of course, if you're looking to buy in a major metro, that may cost you more. As for renting, here's how much you can expect to pay per month in the 11 most expensive metro areas in the US:
