China has begun its once-in-a-decade handover of power to the 'fifth generation' of China's communist party leaders. In preparation for the event, Beijing has enacted bizarre security measures and has put up a giant TV screen in Tiananmen Square running propaganda videos.

In fact, this year marks the 91st year since the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

With that in mind we went back in time and dredged up propaganda posters that the Communist Party has put out since the 1950s.

These include posters from the Great Leap Forward, a social and economic movement under Mao Zedong that saw the collectivization of agriculture and attempted a rapid industrialization of the economy but failed. The Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) which saw Mao try to enforce communism through the land. And in the years following Mao's death.

In the background are portraits of Mao and (Sun Zhongshan), the first president of the Republic of China.

The poster reads ""Let's march forward under the banner of Mao Zedong!" (1950s).

"The life of the peasants is good after Land Reform" (1951).
