These clever photos show how faces change as they age

Bobby at 6 and 36

Bobby Neel Adams was 36 when he noticed how much he resembled a picture of himself at age 6. He was inspired to create a composite image, splicing a new photo of himself with the image of him as a kid.

This was back in 1989, so Photoshop wasn’t an option.

"In the darkroom I sized up both images to the same proportions and made prints," Adams wrote in an email. "Once these photographs were dry I tore the most recent portrait and laid it on top of the school photo, gluing down the rubber cement."

Adams continued using the same method for dozens of works in his "Age Map" series. Since then, he has explored other strange techniques, including splicing photos of couples and family members and, most recently, posing dead creatures in beautifully haunting scenes (currently showing in Brooklyn).

Adams shared a set from "Age Maps" below.

A pair of luxury twisting towers are going up next to New York’s High Line

Bjarke Ingels eleventh

New York’s High Line— the beloved elevated park built along abandoned train tracks on Manhattan’s west side — will soon offer visitors a walking tour of nearby buildings by some of the world’s best modern architects.

It already boasts Italian architect Renzo Piano’s popular design for the new Whitney Museum, a luxury condo tower designed by British designer Norman Foster, and Frank Gehry’s sail-like IAC building. An undulating, futuristic condo building designed by the late Zaha Hadid in partnership with Mexican architect Ismael Leyva is slated for occupancy early next year.

In 2019, Danish favorite Bjarke Ingels will add his touch to the architectural lineup with a pair of twisted towers.

Called The Eleventh due to the building’s location between Manhattan’s 10th and 11th avenues, the $1.9 billion development will house 240 condominiums and a 137-room luxury hotel. Take a look.

SEE ALSO: 11 of the most stunning twisted towers around the world

As seen in new renderings of the structures, the buildings’ lines seem to rotate around a vertical axis, creating a sense of motion and stretching.

The western tower will be taller than the eastern one, at 400 and 300 feet tall, respectively.

Their spiral aesthetic also serves a practical purpose, since it gives more rooms views of the Hudson River on one side and New York skyline on the other.

The hotel operating in the space will be the first US location of international chain Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas, which will also run a large luxury spa.

The development will also feature an open-air pedestrian promenade adjacent to the High Line.

HFZ Capital, the development company behind the project, is teaming up with Friends of the High Line, the organization in charge of maintenance and programming at the elevated park to create the outdoor promenade at the buildings’ base, according to Curbed

Tesla is unveiling a new product that Elon Musk called 'unexpected' — here's what it could be (TSLA)

Tesla Model S

Tesla's next big thing is coming.

On Sunday, CEO Elon Musk said via Twitter that the company will unveil a new product that is “unexpected by most” on October 17.

Musk didn’t share any details, but since his announcement there’s been plenty of speculation about what the company has up its sleeve. After all, Tesla has no shortage of products it plans to launch.

In the company’s Master Plan Part Deux, Musk mentioned several products Tesla will launch during the next few years. But given the timing of the event, some products are more likely to be revealed than others.

Here’s a closer look at four products the company could unveil.

SEE ALSO: Here are the best new features coming to Tesla cars

Autopilot 2.0

Autopilot 2.0 is the next generation of Tesla’s semi-autonomous driving system called Autopilot. With Autopilot 2.0, Tesla is expected to add more sensors to its vehicles to give it more self-driving capabilities.

Musk announced Tesla’s Autopilot system in October of 2014, but the system originally rolled out to users on October 2015. Tesla's next unveiling is on Monday, October 17, exactly two days after Autopilot’s one year launch anniversary.

What’s more, Tesla quietly increased the price of its Autopilot system in August from $2,500 to $3,000. Just a few weeks later, the company rolled out its software update, Version 8.0, to give the car new features and functions.

In August, Musk also hinted that Tesla's autonomous tech would be here sooner than expected.

"Autonomy is going to come a hell of a lot faster than anyone thinks it will, and I think what we've got under development is going to blow people's minds. It blows my mind," he said.

Given the timing and the recent price increase, it’s possible that we could see Tesla’s next generation Autopilot system be unveiled next week.

Model 3 features

In June at the Code Conference, Musk said that the company would be hosting another “big” event for the Model 3 before 2017. He didn’t share many details about what the company would reveal at this event, but he did say that Tesla would do “the obvious thing.”

At the time, it was speculated that Tesla might reveal the interior of the car at this “big” event since the company did not show off what the inside of the production vehicle would look like at the press event in March.

It’s unclear if next week’s unveiling is the “big” event Musk was referring to in June. But it's worth noting that typically, Tesla’s “big” events involve a lot of production and media, and thus far the company has not yet sent out press invites.

Model Y

In Musk’s Master Plan Part Deux, he plainly said that the company will eventually address all market segments by launching an electric compact SUV and pick-up truck.

The compact SUV, which will presumably be called the Model Y, will be built on the Model 3 platform and is expected to have falcon-wing doors like the Model X. And as my colleague Matthew DeBord pointed out, there’s a chance the company could show off some sort of Model Y prototype.

If this is the case, it would be significant because it would show that Tesla is capable of building multiple vehicles on the same platform.

Amber Cove cruise arrival

 The INSIDER Summary:

• Travel blogger Maria Laborde went on a $250 Fathom cruise to the Dominican Republic.
• The trip combined travel with volunteering.
• She feels her work really made a difference in the community.

As a travel blogger and digital marketing translator fluent in Spanish and English, a Fathom cruise that combined vacation with volunteering was a perfect fit for Maria Laborde of LatinAbroad.

In between hiking waterfalls and riding water slides, she taught English to Dominican families.

She found that making an impact is what truly makes a trip unforgettable.

Laborde studied abroad in Cairo and traveled around the Middle East from 2008 to 2009, which "woke up the travel bug."

She's since been to over 30 countries, blogging as LatinAbroad.

She combined her love of travel and charity work on a Fathom social impact cruise in the Dominican Republic.

"I always wanted to get involved with charities and do more social impact activities, so I was always looking for ways where I could combine travel with those experiences," she said.

Laborde went for free on a travel bloggers' press trip, but the entire eight-day cruise would have cost her just $250.

"I paid for excursions and tipped my bartenders well," she said. "They got plenty of me!"

Walmart Shareholders 2016 crowd

There is nothing else in the corporate world like the Walmart Shareholders Meeting.

On June 3, more than 14,000 Walmart employees, executives, and shareholders poured into the University of Arkansas' Bud Walton Arena.

Updates on the past fiscal year's performance as well as the company's latest initiatives were interspersed with comedy from "The Late Late Show" host James Corden and musical performances that included Nick Jonas and Katy Perry. And this was all before noon.

Shareholders fly to northwest Arkansas for this four-hour meeting, but most employees arrive earlier in the week, and the media is given a full three-day schedule.

I arrived in Bentonville, where Walmart is based, on the Tuesday ahead of the meeting. Here's what I saw during my four days immersed in the culture of the world's biggest retailer.

SEE ALSO: Walmart is developing a drone

Shortly after arriving in Bentonville, I took a trip to the town's square for a tour of the Walmart Museum. Employees — or "associates," as they're called — were arriving on shuttles. Here are some from Canada.

Employees from each country gave a unique cheer in front of the museum and posed for photos. Team Mexico, the oldest international branch, had a great fiscal year to be proud of.

The museum is the renovated and expanded Walton's Five and Dime, a store that opened in 1950, predating Walmart by 12 years. It was the first store that Walmart founder Sam Walton established in Bentonville.

After more than a decade of travel, here are 11 of my best tips to make business trips as painless as possible

$

jen drexler headshot

I remember being on a business trip when I was only a few years out of college and found myself sitting at the bar of the fancy Bellagio lobby bar.

I felt successful. I felt worldly. I also felt out of my element.

I called a friend, waking her because I forgot about the time difference, and asked her “Why didn’t anyone teach us how to do this?”

Fast forward to many years later, I found out that now I have a bit of a reputation when it comes to my hyper-vigilance around efficient biz travel. Rumor has it that newbies who find out they are flying with me are secretly tutored so that they are prepared.

I feel like you can find tons of tips on how to pack your bag (roll your clothes) or what to eat on the plane (anything that isn't too messy or stinky) but there are many other things that no one has ever taught you.

There is no reason for any young professional to fall for rookie traps when they start to travel so here are some words of advice:

SEE ALSO: I'm working my way through 12 countries in 12 months — here's the best advice I can give you about staying productive on the road

1. Check your seat assignment right after you book your flight.

If you are surprised by your middle seat when you board the plane then that is your punishment. Enjoy the six-hour cross country flight! I, on the other hand, will be in the exit row.

2. Join every airline and frequent flier program there is.

Then download every app and log in, so when you need to use it you aren’t fumbling to find your password or username. Learn the tricks for your most-used airline. For instance, knowing where your plane is coming from is really helpful when you are navigating weather issues. Some hotels let you check in on your app now and you don’t even have to stop at the desk.

3. Look into your plane’s amenities.

This information is usually available 24 hours before a flight. Once you know how your plane will be equipped, then you can strategize about your device plan. If they don’t have outlets then you need to bring an extra battery pack. No TVs? Then download any movies in advance.

Never promise anyone you will email them from the plane. Those systems are still way too delicate and temperamental to be trusted so don’t rely on them working, especially if you are trying to send a large-ish file or image.

7 things we just learned about 'The Walking Dead' season 7

the walking dead nycc 2016

The cast and crew of "The Walking Dead" took over Madison Square Garden Saturday evening to tease the show's upcoming seventh season.

Though the panel started a half hour late, fans were treated to the debut of a new clip from the AMC series. They also learned a few new things about what's to come in the zombie apocalypse.

Here's what INSIDER learned from the Comic Con panel.

We will definitely learn who was killed at the end of last season in the season seven premiere.

Showrunner Scott Gimple assured fans the show won't make us wait a few episodes to learn the fate of Rick's group.

Season 7 will be much larger than previous seasons.

"It really is a larger world," said executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. "There are new worlds we’re going to be exploring with new characters, obviously Ezekiel and Shiva being two of them."

As fans will soon learn, Ezekiel is the leader of another group called the Kingdom. A former zookeeper, one of his lines of defense in the zombie apocalypse is a tiger named Shiva.

"Even though this show has been a big show it’s essentially been contained," Hurd continued. "We had the Atlanta season, we had the farm season, we had the prison and Woodbury. You name it. Now, we have a Walking Dead universe thanks to Mr. Kirkman."

Norman Reedus, who plays fan-favorite Daryl, says filming that brutal scene with Negan was "miserable."

Moderator Chris Hardwick asked Reedus what was going through Daryl's head while he's on his knees in the season six finale.

"That we're all gonna die," Reedus said without missing a beat. "That's what's going through everyone's head. We're outnumbered and it doesn't look good. It's a weird feeling to be that powerless."

"It doesn't look like we're going to get over that wall. It's a horrible feeling," he added. "I hated doing all that. It was miserable. It sucked, it really did."

Reedus got a huge "Awwww" from the crowd after that one.

The best cities in America for singles

smiling woman with camera

The singles scene in New York City is a little crazy, maybe even certifiably so.

“This is a city with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but only in the best ways,” says Rachel Harrison, a Brooklyn-based public relations exec. “You can dress a little wilder, slap on some fake eyelashes — you can do anything you want, at any age. There are no judgments.”

Unabashedly batting those faux lashes got the Big Apple more than a few second glances this year. New York City landed in the top 10 for the best cities for singles, according to Travel + Leisure readers. In this year’s America’s Favorite Places survey, readers ranked 38 cities on dozens of appealing qualities, including good-looking locals, cool shopping, and hipster-magnet coffee bars.

The winning cities in the singles-scene category excel in the off-hours, ranking highly for nightclubs, dive bars, and even great diners, where you might lock eyes with someone over a late-night order of fries.

But the most singles-friendly cities also put a creative spin on conventional meet-up spots. Plenty of big attractions — from the Brooklyn Museum to the San Diego Museum of Art — offer monthly happy hours, wooing artsy singles with cocktails and live music. In Boston, one of the coolest bookstores does Trivia Nights, while in downtown L.A. a popular bar stocks old-school video games.

Another strategy for uncovering a city’s best singles scene is exploring the activities that locals love most. “New Orleanians live and breathe festivals — like Jazz Fest, and even Creole Tomato Fest,” says native Stephen Schmitz. Just be warned: “The heat and humidity,” he says, “can make for a rough appearance.”

Read on for the full results. And make your point of view heard by voting in the America’s Favorite Places survey.

1. Miami, Florida

Gorgeous locals, a wealth of nightclubs, and a wild streak as long as the beach: Miami climbed from second to first place this year, thanks to its flair for throwing a big party. Hot spots like Wall at the W South Beach or the Italian-restaurant-meets-cocktail-lounge Cavalliget a big boost when celebs grace the premises, whether it’s Bieber or the formerly single Clooney. Other trendy hangouts are a little more accessible to the non-red-carpet crowd: Tamarina, for one, features an oyster bar and alfresco champagne bar, plus a reasonably priced happy hour. You might meet other singles while strolling through galleries and past street art on the Wynwood Art Walks, held the second Saturday of the month. And in this otherwise well-dressed town, your best secret-weapon accessory may be a smile: readers found the locals to be a little aloof.

Last year’s No. 1 city for singles still knows how to whoop it up, ranking at the top of the survey for festivals, bars, and wild weekends. But a good singles experience in NOLA need not be limited to collecting beads: some cool places to meet a more local crowd, off the tourist grid, include the Saturday night dance party at the Hi-Ho Lounge in the Marigny; Bywater wine bar Bacchanal, with its live-music-filled courtyard; or Fulton Alley for late-night “boutique bowling,” with shareable, andouille-sausage tater tots.

Inside the Bill Gates-backed startup on a mission to reinvent meat

impossible foods meatless burger 0102 3

The world's population could reach nine billion people by 2050.

The bad news for carnivores: There aren't enough resources on the planet to support sustainable animal agriculture at that scale. Raising chickens, pigs, and cattle already takes up 30% of the Earth's surface.

A number of companies are tackling the challenge with meat and dairy alternatives, but one stealthy startup out of Redwood City, California, has garnered buzz with a veggie burger it says is indistinguishable from real beef.

Impossible Foods recognizes that most veggie burgers resemble pan-fried Frisbees more closely than meat. Their mission to reinvent the burger targets the most ardent meat-lovers, with an offering that sizzles, smells, and even bleeds on the griddle.

The Impossible Burger became available at Momofuku Nishi in New York over the summer. Starting October 13, people on the West Coast can try the burger at three restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Business Insider recently toured the lab and test kitchen at Impossible Food's headquarters to see how the future of plant-based meat comes together.

In a Redwood City, California, office building with blacked-out windows, scientists, foodies, and Silicon Valley veterans work on making the perfect veggie burger.

But don't call it a "veggie burger" within earshot of founder Pat Brown and his team. In 2011, they set out on a mission to make a plant-based burger unmistakably meaty. While a black bean or mushroom burger fools no one, the Impossible Burger might.

"I have no reason to believe cows make the best meat," Chris Davis, director of research and development at Impossible Foods, tells Business Insider.

Unsure where to put it? A high-yield savings account is a possibility, or you could try a short-term bond fund or money market fund.

Pay off lingering debt

If you have debt — whether it's student loans, car loans, or credit card debt — a bonus or birthday check can be a great way to start tackling it.

Attack what Grace calls the "expensive debt" first — the high-interest debt like credit card debt, as interest can end up costing you thousands of dollars in the long run.

If you aren't sure where to start, consider the advice from 13 real people who paid off thousands or this seven step guide to paying off any form of debt.

Put it to work

If you're debt-free and have a sound emergency fund, put any extra cash to work so it will compound and turn into more over time.

The simplest starting point is to invest in your employer's 401(k) plan if possible — and make sure to take full advantage of your company's 401(k) match if they offer one.

Next, consider contributing money towards a Roth IRA or traditional IRA, individual retirement accounts with different tax structures. If you still have money left over, you can research low-cost index funds, which Warren Buffett recommends, and look into the online investment platforms known as "robo-advisers," which manage your investments for you through unique algorithms.

'Latte Revolution'

Eight people walking with lattes in hand; an intersection full of people carrying balloons; eight people yawning at once. These scenes lie somewhere between fantasy and reality, says photographer Peter Funch.

Funch’s best-known work, "Babel Tales," combines multiple photos from locations in Manhattan to create uncanny coincidences.

"Humans most often can only experience time in a linear manner," Funch said in a 2013 interview. "Breaking away from a linear perspective of time does not make an image 'untrue.’"

Funch has experimented with temporal perspective in other series, taking simultaneous pictures of an event from multiple perspectives and recreating postcards in modern photos. He shared a selection from "Babel Tales" below.
