Steph Curry is playing in a professional golf tournament — here are 15 other athletes who love to tee it up

Stephen Curry

Two sports will collide this week when Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry plays in the Ellie Mae Classic, the Bay Area's annual Web.com Tour event.

Curry is an avid golfer who will inject some excitement into the event while also serving as an ambassador for the Warriors Community Foundation, the tournament's main beneficiary. The 2-handicapper isn't expected to perform well his odds of making the cut are listed at +900 — but his presence will still be huge for what is essentially the PGA Tour's minor league level.

In honor of Curry's foray into competitive golf, here are 15 more professional athletes who love to tee it up.

NBA legend Charles Barkley's trials and tribulations on the golf course are well-documented. He once appeared on Golf Channel's "The Haney Project" to straighten out his shoddy swing.

Tom Brady has had some high-profile playing partners over the years, including Donald Trump.

2015 American League MVP Josh Donaldson routinely puts his home run power on display at the golf course. The third baseman once hit a 300-yard drive on Golf Channel's "Morning Drive."

Step aboard the USS Kearsarge, the US Navy workhorse that takes Marines to war

USS Kearsarge amphibious assault ship US Navy

In US Navy history, just four ships have borne the name Kearsarge.

The first, a Civil War sloop, sank the CSS Alabama off the coast of France in 1864.

The next one, a battleship, sailed around the world with Theodore Roosevelt's Great White Fleet.

The third, an aircraft carrier, recovered astronauts from the sea during Project Mercury, the US's first human-spaceflight program.

The current USS Kearsarge, an amphibious assault ship that docked in New York City for Fleet Week, has a lower profile, but it is no less essential to the fleet.

"We have a very special mission as opposed to your other ships of the Navy," Lt. j.g. Christian Sedarski, a deck-division officer on the Kearsarge, told Business Insider. "We are strictly landing and bringing back Marines from the beach."

"So the way I like to explain it is, we are a glorified hotel with a F-150 flatbed," he added.

It also has extensive medical facilities, capable of taking in wounded troops as well as survivors of natural disasters. Its ability to hold 600 patients makes it second to only the Navy's ready-reserve hospital ships in medical capacity.

In a display of its versatility, the Kearsarge deployed to provide flood relief in Pakistan in August 2010, steaming west six months later to support operations in Libya as part of Task Force Odyssey Dawn.

Below, you can take a tour of Kearsarge and get an up-close look at a ship that ferries Marines and their gear into battle around the world.

SEE ALSO: The Air Force put on a show of force with the A-10, and a day later it got taken off the chopping block

The Kearsarge stretches 844 feet from bow to stern with a 27-foot draft. Fully loaded, it displaces 44,000 tons and can push through the water at over 24 knots.

Deck-edge elevators, like the one seen here, lift the Kearsarge's contingent of aircraft to the flight deck, where three cargo elevators lift supplies to meet them.

The ship rises 186 feet from waterline to top of mast. It sails with over 1,100 officers and crew and can carry about 2,000 Marines and their gear.

Photos show how close an Air Canada jet came to causing one of the worst aviation disasters in history

Air Canada Airbus A320 C-FKCK

On Wednesday, the National Transportation Safety Board released an update on its investigation of the near-disaster involving an Air Canada jet's aborted landing in San Francisco on July 7.

According to the NTSB, Air Canada Flight 759 was at just 85 feet of altitude when the pilots powered up its engines to abort the landing.

The Airbus A320 dipped to as low as 59 feet before climbing to safety.

"In post-incident interviews, both incident pilots stated that, during their first approach, they believed the lighted runway on their left was 28L and that they were lined up for 28R," the NTSB report said.

"They also stated that they did not recall seeing aircraft on taxiway C but that something did not look right to them."

Even though the pilots didn't see any aircraft, there were, in fact, four fully loaded jets sitting on taxiway C awaiting takeoff.  That means the Air Canada jet came within feet of colliding with three fueled and loaded widebody airliners. Air Canada declined to comment on the matter.

Along with the report, the NTSB released a set of photos and diagrams showing what transpired that evening. Take a look.

The first photo shows the four jets lined up on taxiway 3.

According to the report, the four planes on taxiway C were United Airlines Flight UAL 1, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner; Philippines Airlines Flight PAL 115, an Airbus A340; United Airlines Flight UAL 863, also a Boeing 787; and United Airlines Flight UAL 1118, a Boeing 737

The second photo shows Air Canada 759 approaching San Francisco International Airport when a pilot from United Flight 1 notifies air traffic control.

The report indicates that the Air Canada pilots flew too far to the right. Instead of lining up for runway 28L and 28R, the Air Canada jet lined up to land on taxiway C, which runs parallel to the runways. AC759 was supposed to land on runway 28R while 28L was closed at the time of the incident.

The third photo shows the point where UAL 1 tells air traffic control that Air Canada 759 is lined up for the taxiway.

Flemming Ornskov Shire CEO July 2017

A new study has revealed the pay packets of the biggest earners among FTSE 100 CEOs, which range from the low seven figures to a salary of £48.1 million ($63.8 million).

The average FTSE 100 CEO brought home £4.53 million in the last financial year, according to analysis from the High Pay Centre think tank and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The figure was a 17% fall on the previous year, when average salaries were much higher, and the biggest package was worth £70.4 million.

As with FTSE 100 CEOs in general, the vast majority are white men. No women made the top 20.

The High Pay Centre, which campaigns against corporate excess, hailed the fall in pay. But it but warned that change was so far a "one-off" and that "we need to see continued efforts to restrain and reverse excess at the top."

These are the 20 highest-paid FTSE 100 CEOs and their salaries:

20. Antonio Horta Osorio, Lloyds Group — £5.5 million

19. Stuart Gulliver, HSBC — £5.7 million

18. Xavier Rolet, London Stock Exchange Group — £5.7 million

The 11 most expensive yachts you can hire this summer

0
0

Cloud 9With the brokerage market still recovering from the subprime crisis, the yacht charter sector has remained more active throughout the recession and is now accelerating with some reporting a shortage of yachts in less popular cruising grounds such as Spain.

Using our proprietary Timeline index, we've gathered a list of some of the most expensive yachts for charter available this summer, some being rented out at over a million euros per week.

Eclipse

Length: 162.5m (533 ft)

Yard: Blohm+Voss (2010)

Weekly rate: from €3,000,000

Famously built for Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich as the flagship of his fleet, Eclipse was delivered in 2010 by German shipyard, Blohm+Voss (now part of Lurssen), as the largest yacht in the world, a title that she held until the delivery of the 180-meter Azzam in 2013.

Although not on the open charter market, Eclipse is available for rent according to several sources at a rate of €3 million per week with the owner's team dealing with the management of the superyacht's operations themselves, without the involvement of any brokerage firm.

Refitted in 2015, Eclipse boasts a 56-meter private owner's deck, a 16-meter swimming pool that can transform into open deck and can carry up to three helicopters at a time.

Queen Miri

Length: 91.5m (300 ft)

Yard: Neorion Shipyards (2010)

Weekly rate: from €1,825,000

Measuring 85 meters in length back when she was known as Delma, Queen Miri has been lengthened to 91.5 meters over the course of the 16-month long refit at Amico Shipyard replacing even the yacht's original engines. The refit saw a new jacuzzi being installed on the sundeck and 80% of all interior areas being refurbished.

Amongst Queen Miri's newest features is a floodable tender garage that can be closed off and turned into a heated seawater swimming area. Originally built in 2004 as Annaliesse by Greek shipyard, Neorion, the yacht was the 29th largest yacht in the world at launch. Andreas Liveras, the yacht's original owner, ran it as a charter yacht for groups of up to 36 guests. The yacht was then sold in 2007, reportedly to a Dubai-based owner, and renamed to Delma.

The yacht later came back on the market in August 2013 when Edmiston listed Delma for sale at a price of €53,000,000. Delma was eventually sold again and refitted to its newest look as Queen Miri, coming back on the charter market for the first time in 10 years.

Aquarius

Length: 92m (301 ft)

Yard: Feadship (2016)

Weekly rate: Price on application

Known as Project Touchdown throughout her build, Aquarius was delivered to her owner in the third quarter of 2016 as a replacement for his previous 67-meter Aquarius.

Boasting a swimming pool aft of the main deck, Aquarius also counts amongst her features a large Jacuzzi on the sun deck, a gym on the lower deck with a foldable balcony opening onto the sea and panoramic windows offering unparalleled views throughout the yacht.

With a new Air Force One on the way, here's a look back at its incredible history

0
0

Air Force One

On Wednesday, Boeing and the US Air Force confirmed that they are close to a deal for two Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental commercial airliners that will be converted over to serve as the nation's next generation presidential transports.

The two brand-new jumbo jets were abandoned after Russia's Transaero airline bust in 2015. At the time, Boeing had already built two of the four 747s Transaero had on order. So instead of delivering the planes, Boeing completed flight testing and sent them to the California desert where they have been waiting for a new buyer. Now it seems the planes are now destined to take on the call sign, Air Force One.

Air Force One is instantly recognizable — both as the airplane of the President of the United States and as a flying symbol of American military and economic might. With its hand-polished blue, white, and silver livery, it boldly proclaims the arrival of the powerful man in the world.

What many people don't know is that there isn't one, but two nearly identical Boeing jets that serve as the official transport of the president. Normally, the planes are referred to by their tail numbers — 28000 and 29000 — but when the Commander and Chief steps on board, they take on the call sign "Air Force One." In fact, presidential airplanes didn't begin using the Air Force One designation until 1959.

The president's pair of Boeing VC-25A jets are operated by the Presidential Airlift Group out of Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. While the current Boeing 747-based planes have been in service for more than two decades, they're simply the latest in a long-line of flying White Houses.

Here's a look back at the history America's presidential airplanes.

Today, presidential air travel is a massive, highly coordinated operation. However, this wasn't always the case.

It all started with Theodore Roosevelt — a true American pioneer. The 26th president was the first to fly in an airplane. More than a year after leaving office, he flew in a Wright Flyer on October 10, 1910.

Smithsonian

It wasn't until 1933 that the government actually acquired an aircraft specifically for presidential travel. That year, a Douglas Dolphin amphibious plane — similar to the one pictured below — was specially outfitted for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Unfortunately, FDR never flew in the Dolphin.

The best waffle makers you can buy

0
0

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

waffle maker 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • Whether you prefer fat and fluffy Belgian waffles or favor thin and crispy traditional American-style ones, there are dozens of different waffle makers in every shape and size. The best overall waffle maker for the casual waffle fan is the Oster CKSTWF2000 Belgian Waffle Maker in Stainless Steel.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Eggo waffles. I vaguely remember that when I was very young, my mother used to purchase square frozen waffles. But once our family was turned on to the round Eggo waffles, we never looked back. As soon as one popped out of the toaster, I would slather it in butter and maple syrup and then cut off the rounded edges and gobble it up.

Frozen waffles are delicious, but freshly made ones are even better. There are plenty of waffle recipes online, and once you've assembled the ingredients, you just need a waffle maker. There is a dizzying array of waffle makers out there, so we've researched to find the best ones you can buy. Before you buy one, the first thing you need to determine is what kind of waffles you’d like to make.

Belgian vs. American vs. Liege waffles

What’s the difference between Belgian Waffles and “regular” American-style waffles? According to Chowhound, Belgian waffles are bigger all around — in diameter and thickness — and also have deeper square pockets than their American counterparts. They are also traditionally made with yeast, which makes them light and fluffy. Regular waffles, on the other hand, are usually made with baking powder and are thinner and crunchier than Belgian waffles. Belgian waffles require a different kind of waffle maker.

Another kind of waffle that is gaining popularity in the US is a type of Belgian waffle called the Liege. Liege waffles are a centuries old street treat in Belgium, made from yeast-risen dough and Belgian pearl sugar. This gives the waffle its own natural sweetness — no toppings needed. They are softer, sweeter and doughier than other Belgian waffles. They're also much harder to make. Our picks are primarily for Belgian and American style waffles.

How to pick a waffle maker

So, now that you’ve decided what kind of waffles you’d like to cook up at home, it’s time to pick your waffle maker. Experts agree that the single most important factor when selecting a waffle maker is that it cooks your waffle evenly.

According to the Food Network and ConsumerSearch.com, a good waffle maker should also offer variable heat controls, stay cool to the touch, and alert you when the waffles are done. Some waffle makers come with special features like removable grids and most have non-stick coatings to make it easier to remove your waffles.

We've researched expert and buyer reviews to find the best waffle makers you can buy at any price point, whether you want Belgian waffles or stereotypical American ones.

Although the Oster CKSTWF2000 Belgian Waffle Maker in Stainless Steel is our top pick, for the reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the All Clad 99011GT Stainless Steel Belgian Waffle Maker 2-Square, the Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker, the Chef's Choice Pro Express Waffle Maker, and the Black & Decker G48TD 3-in-1 Waffle Maker.

The best waffle maker overall

Why you'll love it: The Oster Belgian Waffle Maker produces perfect golden waffles for a great low price.

If you like big, fat, fluffy waffles — and want to make them easily and affordably — you may have found your match. With an 8-inch round baking plate, the Oster Belgian Waffle Maker makes an oversized, round Belgian waffle. Adjustable temperature controls keep you in charge of how crispy and golden your waffles will be.

The waffle maker has non-stick cool-touch handles and two indicator lights, so you know what's going on with your waffle. The stainless steel waffle maker comes with a limited one-year warranty, and it's the best-selling waffle maker on Amazon.

There are more than 1,450 user reviews on Amazon, most of which are highly positive. Buyers love how easy it is to clean, its low price point, and the different waffle settings you can use.

“It's a good, small waffle maker that makes great waffles. The waffles don't stick and come out crispy and brown,” wrote Ginger Sager in July 2017, adding that she uses it when her grandchildren come to visit.

Of course, for a $20 waffle maker, you can't expect perfection. Negative reviewers note that the lid feels shaky and the unit doesn’t feel sturdy. A few people say that the unit doesn’t heat up enough for their liking.

Around the web, professional reviewers, including those at Your Best Digs and Best Products, point out that the simple Oster CKSTWF2000 Belgian Waffle Maker is a great bargain that's well worth the price.

Pros: Affordable, adjustable temperature, indicator light

Cons: Not as high-end as some alternatives, may be flimsy

Buy the Oster CKSTWF2000 Belgian Waffle Maker, Stainless Steel at Amazon for $17.01 (originally $23.99)

The best waffle maker to splurge on

Why you'll love it: The All-Clad 2-Square Belgian Waffle Maker is a top-of-the-line appliance with all the bells and whistles to ensure you make perfect waffles every time.

Keep your whole family content with the All-Clad, 2-Square Belgian Waffle Maker. This high-end waffle maker produces two lovely thick waffles every time. You can also get one that makes four waffles. The waffles measure 4.5 inches wide by 1-inch thick, so these are nice big Belgian waffles.

The waffle maker has seven different browning settings to accommodate all tastes. Regardless of which setting you pick, the advanced heating technology ensures consistent cooking straight through the waffle. A special steam-release system prevents condensation from building up, too, thus ensuring that your waffle comes out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

There’s no guesswork here. LED indicator lights let you know when to pour your batter in and when your waffles are ready to eat. Don’t worry: If you’re not paying attention, the system beeps to let you know it's done.

With the nonstick cooking surface and a removable drip tray, cleanup is easy, too. When you are done, you can leave the gorgeous stainless steel unit on your counter or take advantage of the cord storage and the locking lid and turn it on its side for more compact storage. Like all All-Clad products, there is a limited lifetime warranty on this unit.

There are more than 170 user reviews on Amazon, and most are highly positive. “This is what I have been looking for,” wrote one verified purchaser in October 2016. “I make waffles weekly and even take my waffle maker on family vacations to the beach. I need a new one every few years and hesitated spending so much for this one. I am glad I did. The waffles are thick and fluffy inside.”

Across the web, professional reviewers, including those at Good Housekeeping and Best Reviews give the All-Clad, 2-Square Belgian Waffle Maker high marks.

Pros: Sturdy stainless steel construction, multiple browning options, special heating technology, LED indicator lights, easy to clean

Cons: Expensive, heavy

Buy the All Clad 99011GT Stainless Steel Belgian Waffle Maker 2-Square on Amazon for $179.95  (originally $199.99)

The best waffle maker for American-style waffles

Why you'll love it: The Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker is an affordable appliance that makes thin, crispy, American waffles.

Bye-bye Belgian. If you’re one of those folks who prefer more traditional- style American waffles that are thin and crunchy with smaller pockets, then stand up and proudly proclaim your preference. The Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker is the best waffle maker for the job.

This brushed stainless steel appliance has five browning setting and dual indicator lights that tell you when it’s time to bake the waffle and when it is ready to eat. The round nonstick cook plate, with four quarters, produces one large, round, traditional-style waffle. Rubber feet keep the unit from sliding around and the lid is weighted so it doesn't pop open.

Cleanup is simple. After grids have cooled, brush crumbs from the grooves, and absorb any excess cooking oil by wiping with a dry cloth or paper towel. You may clean the grids by wiping with a damp cloth. To clean exterior, wipe with a soft dry cloth. After you are done, wrap the cord under the bottom of the unit and then turn it on its side for compact storage. It comes with a three-year warranty, as well as a recipe book.

There are more than 3,250 user reviews on Amazon, and most are positive. “That sound you hear is the Angel choir when I finally sat down to golden crisp waffles. I had been craving them for months - not the thick Belgium ones, but the old-fashioned, round, thin crispy ones. Easy to use, makes delicious waffles. I used a setting between 3-4, and they came out perfect,” wrote one verified buyer in March 2017.

Across the web, professional reviewers, including those at The Sweethome, Your Best Digs, Best Reviews, and Best Products highly recommend the Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker.

Pros: Affordable, heats up quickly, makes thin and crunchy traditional waffles, 5 browning settings, indicator lights, easy to clean and to store.

Cons: Somewhat flimsy

'It comes down to execution': Here's what Wall Street is saying about Tesla (TSLA)

0

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, poses with a Tesla car in front of Nasdaq after its IPO

Tesla reported a smaller than expected loss on Wednesday afternoon, just three days after the much anticipated launch of its luxury Model 3 sedan, which it says 455,000 people have pre-ordered.

The electric-car maker lost an adjusted $1.33 per share on revenue of $2.79 billion. Analysts had forecast a loss of $1.88 per share on $2.51 billion in revenue, according to Bloomberg.

In total, Tesla burned through $1.16 billion in cash last quarter, up $44 million from the previous year.

Tesla’s stock jumped 6% on the earnings beat, opening Thursday at $345.33. But many analysts aren’t convinced the company can keep the price that high.

Here’s a wrap of some of their commentary:

JPMorgan: BEARISH

Rating: Underweight

Price Target: $200 (previously $190)

Comment: “We continue to think that execution risk remains elevated relative to the ramp of production; we are, however, raising our estimates and price target, including on the flow-through of 2Q’s stronger margin trend to quarters beyond 3Q, in part because of management’s strong outlook for 2018 Model 3 margin, as we believe they should have a good handle on component costs, etc., at this late stage in the vehicle’s development, although we remain cautious on the stock overall.”

Oppenheimer: NEUTRAL

Rating: Perform

PriceTarget: N/A

Comment: “The long-term thesis on TSLA depends on the successful launch of fully autonomous vehicles, but limited information is available on the progress being made nor on testing results for Level 3-5 autonomy.”

“We believe bullish investors will be patient on earnings leverage and are more concerned about steady progress toward fully autonomous vehicles and transforming the transportation market.”

RBC Capital Markets: NEUTRAL

Rating: Hold (Sector Perform)

Price Target: $345 (previously $314)

Comment: “What TSLA has accomplished is extremely impressive, but stock discounts that a lot goes perfectly and smoothly for a very long time … Mid-to-long term success depends on TSLA maintaining great brand which increasingly depends on autonomous, not electrification.”

“Tesla is essentially learning how to become a manufacturing company on the fly. While we don’t have meaningful reason to doubt that Tesla can eventually achieve its targets, doing so in a timely manner without some growing pains could prove challenging. Failure to hit near-term objectives may not impact the long-term view but could hold back the stock or provide a more favorable risk/reward entry point.”

These are the worst mistakes we've seen young people make in job interviews

0
0

head jaw crocodile mistake mouth bite eat

At Business Insider, we have interviewed hundreds of job applicants.

We are usually impressed with the calibre of candidates. Most people we meet seem smart and accomplished, and applicants "get" our all-digital, fast-paced, anti-boring way of handling business news.

But ... young people are human, too. They make mistakes.

What follows are all real-life errors committed by people who wanted to work at Business Insider.

24. You want a job with us but you don't read Business Insider ...

"So, what do you like most about Business Insider?""Er..."

This is one of the most common, and most baffling, mistakes: When it becomes clear that a promising candidate has not actually looked at our site recently. We're hiring people who want to workwith us, not people who just need a job.

Tip: Read the site on the morning of your interview and take a couple of notes so you can show us you're well-informed.

23. Showing up 20 minutes early.

It may seem like a good idea to show up early, but it puts pressure on the interviewer to meet with you. A time was set for a reason. You should never be late, but five minutes is enough for showing up in advance.

Tip: Find a nearby coffee spot and hang out there until your interview time.

22. Being too general.

You have one shot to demonstrate your knowledge and skills — so be as specific as you can when answering questions. Don't answer questions with "yes" or "no." The interviewer shouldn't have to feel as if he or she is carrying the conversation.

Tip: Review the projects you're most proud of before heading into an interview. It's easy to forget the details even if it's your own work.

These 4 companies look Amazon-proof

Jeff Bezos

Amazon has every single retailer in the US on notice.

The Jeff Bezos-led juggernaut is armed with a war chest of cash and it hasn't been shy about throwing its weight around in the past couple months, disrupting every industry in sight.

Its $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods threw the whole grocery industry into disarray, while Blue Apron's battered IPO price ended up as collateral damage. Its newly-announced partnership with Nike sent the likes of Dick's Sporting Goods and Under Armour tumbling. Heck, even the payments industry is facing a major, Amazon-led shake-up.

But there are still a few bright spots, says RBC Capital Markets — companies whose existing business models have created a natural insulation from Amazon, as well as those that have been quick to adapt.

Here are four such corporations highlighted by RBC in a recent client note:

CarMax

Ticker:KMX

Total return year-to-date: 2.8%

Rationale: "We believe KMX provides true scarcity value with solid comp momentum and a business model that will be difficult for Amazon or others to disintermediate."

Source: RBC Capital Markets

Walmart

Ticker:WMT

Total return year-to-date: 17%

Rationale: "We believe Walmart will ultimately be one of the best positioned retailers over the long-term due to its existing size, scale and technological improvements."

Source: RBC Capital Markets

Best Buy

Ticker:BBY

Total return year-to-date: 40%

Rationale: "Best Buy has already weathered the worst of the 'Amazon storm' through price matching and substantial in-store/online improvements, and has now been steadily gaining market share ... Best Buy has fought back against Amazon better than most."

In 2016, Fitbit teamed up with leading cancer institute Dana Farber Cancer Institute to launch a 3,200-person study that looks at how breast cancer recurrence, or instances in which the cancer returns after a first round of treatment appears to knock it out, is affected by weight loss in overweight and obese people.

Maintain a healthy weight.

Obesity has been linked with an increased risk of breast cancer, along with pancreatic, esophageal, colorectal, and thyroid cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute. Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise can be a way to keep your risk of breast cancer low.

Breastfeed.

Breastfeeding has been linked to a lower risk of breast cancer for mothers. In 2002, a massive study of nearly 150,000 women found that for those who breastfed, the longer they breastfed the more protected they were against breast cancer.

For every 12 months a mother breastfed, her risk of breast cancer went down by about 4%. The World Health Organization recommends that mothers breastfeed for their babies' first six months.

A twisting, smog-eating tower is nearly finished in Taipei, Taiwan.

The skyscraper's facade, roof, and balconies will contain 23,000 trees and shrubs — nearly the same amount found in New York's Central Park. Inside, it will hold 40 luxury condos.

The plants are projected to absorb 130 tons of carbon dioxide per year — the equivalent of about 27 cars, lead designer Vincent Callebaut told Business Insider.

Called the Tao Zhu Yin Yuan Tower, or Agora Garden, the building topped out in July and is set to open by the fall. Take a look inside.

The 455,694-square-foot structure, a double-helix twisting 90-degrees from base to top, is modeled on a DNA strand, Callebaut said.

The 20-story skyscraper sits in the XinYi District, in the heart of Taipei City.

The top floor was completed in July 2017.

Tinder threw a Hamptons party on 'billionaire's row' that ended when police showed up — here's what it was like

In July, online-dating app Tinder hosted two weekend-long events in a $13 million dollar Montauk home for their members-only edition, Tinder Select.

The home, according to PageSix was located on "billionaire's row," and has high-profile neighbors such as Ralph Lauren and Robert De Niro.

But the app reportedly failed to get a proper permit for the events, and the noise level of the party had the police and fire marshals showing up, ticketing guests for open-containers and parking violations. Now, host Joshua Metz, the director of marketing at Tinder, might be facing a $20,000 fine. A look at the event, below.

The exclusive party catered to those working within the fashion industry, and New York City socialites.

Fashion designer Timo Weiland helped guest DJ the party.

Guests such as MADE co-founder Jenné Lombardo, center, and Vogue's Selby Drummond, left, attended.

The best battery packs you can buy

battery pack 4x3

The Insider Pick:

There's nothing worse than being caught with a dead phone. Sadly, most phones can barely last a day before they need to be juiced up again and outlets are few and far between. Instead of popping a heavy battery case on your phone for all eternity, you should carry around an external battery pack. Portable battery packs are the perfect solution to your charging woes. They come in all different shapes and sizes, and some of them even do double duty as a flashlight or car jump starter.

We've used dozens of battery packs over the years, and it's hard to narrow down the best ones because there are so many great ones. The battery packs we've chosen are the cream of the crop in terms of functionality, style, and price.

How to choose a battery pack for your needs

The first thing you need to know is what charger your phone uses. Every battery pack that has a USB-A output can be used to charge up any phone whether it's a lighting-based iPhone, a Micro USB Android phone, or a USB-C Android phone. All you need is the charging cable for your phone that can plug into a USB-A outlet adapter. Some USB-C cords have USB-C on both ends, in which case you need a battery pack with a USB-C output. There are also battery packs with integrated cables built in, but we'll discuss that further below.

Here are all the factors you should consider when buying a battery pack:

  • Portability and capacity: There are two kinds of people — those who buy giant battery packs with a very high capacity and those who buy skinny ones with very little capacity. Giant ones are obviously less portable and heavier to carry, but you don't have to charge them up as often. Small battery packs can fit in your wallet, purse, or pocket with ease, but you will have to juice them up after one or two uses.
  • Integrated cables or no cables: Some battery packs come with integrated cables so you don't have to remember to bring your charging cable and your battery pack with you at the same time. I personally love integrated cables and think every battery pack should have them, but they do have a downside — you're limited to that one cable type. So you're in trouble if you want to share the pack's power with a friend whose phone charges with a different cable than your phone or if you switch phones and the charging standard changes. If you don't want an included cable, many battery packs have no integrated cables, so you have to bring your own.
  • Quick Charging: Many Android phones offer some version of Quick Charge technology, so if your phone does juice up quickly, you should look for a battery pack that supports Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0. That way, you won't have to wait 3-4 hours for a full battery.
  • USB-C ports: The new port on many phones, the Nintendo Switch, and the 2016 MacBook Pro is USB-C. If your device supports USB-C, you need a battery pack with the new port. Some USB-C battery packs come with cables, but they're few and far between at this point. That'll change over the course of 2017 and 2018 as more and more devices get USB-C charging.
  • Extra features: Some battery packs have special features like being solar powered, offering flashlights, or even adding jumper cables for your car. If you're a driver or someone who lives in remote areas, these special battery packs might be more your style.

Updated on 08/03/2017 by Malarie Gokey: Added the Jackery Bolt 6,700mAh External Battery Charger with Built-in USB-C and Micro USB Cables and the DBPOWER 600A Peak 18,000mAh Portable Car Jump Starter. Updated prices.

The best battery pack overall

Why you'll love it: The Jackery Bolt 6,000mAh Ultra-Compact External Battery Charger can juice up any device twice, and it has built-in lightning and Micro USB cables. There's also a version with built-in Micro USB and USB-C cables.

If you have an iPhone or an Android phone with a Micro USB port, the Jackery Bolt 6,000 mAh External Battery Charger with Built-in lightning and Micro USB Cables is the best external battery pack you can buy. Those of you who own a new Android phone with a USB-C connection should buy the new Jackery Bolt Battery Pack with Built-in Micro USB and USB-C Cables.

The Jackery Bolt has two cables integrated into its design, so you can charge two devices with different charging ports at the same time without bringing your cables with you. If you have an iPhone, you'll want the one with built-in lightning and Micro USB cables. Those of you who just bought a Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, or another USB-C Android phone need the pack with built-in Micro USB and USB-C cables.

The Jackery Bolt also has a USB-A port, so you can plug in a third device to charge with its own cable, whether it be lightning, Micro USB, or USB-C. It even has a built-in flashlight. In other words, this battery pack does it all.

It comes in two different capacities, so you can choose between a 6,000mAh/6,700mAh pack that can fully charge an iPhone 7 twice or charge a Galaxy S8 1.5 times and a 10,050mAh pack that can fully charge an iPhone 7 four times or charge a Galaxy S8 three times.

The battery pack supports Quick Charge tech, too, with up to 2.4A output, so it should charge compatible phones very quickly. The battery packs themselves juice up with a Micro USB cable, which is included in the box.

Jackery offers an 18-month warranty and 24/7 customer service. User reviews on Amazon are positive, and The Wirecutter declared the Jackery Bolt its winner for best everyday use.

It's great that the Jackery comes with two integrated cables and the option to charge a third device with your own cable. Now that there's a USB-C option, too, Jackery's battery packs truly are for everyone.

Overall, the Jackery Bolt is our top pick because it's a versatile battery pack that will suit every type of user, and it's less expensive than other highly rated battery packs with multiple integrated charging cables.

Pros: Comes with lightning and Micro USB cables or Micro USB and USB-C cables, charges your phone more than once, it's relatively slim, it's and more affordable than the competition

Cons: Not super slim and not super giant

The best slim battery pack

Why you'll love it: The 4,000mAh Flux Portable Charger packs lightning and Micro USB cables into a super slim body that'll charge your phone fully at least once.

Some people don't want to carry around a bulky battery pack — even if it means getting only one extra charge out of it. If you prioritize slimness over capacity, the 4,000mAh Flux Portable Charger is the best one for you.

Although it's super slim at a mere 7.8mm, the Flux battery pack holds 4,000mAh of power inside. There are also two cables integrated into the battery pack's design: a lightning cable for your iPhone and a Micro USB for your Android friends. Unfortunately, there's no support for USB-C devices yet, but in the future, Flux is likely to make USB-C battery packs, too.

It will charge most phones at least once, and some may get 1.5 charges out of it — that's not bad for such a slim battery pack. The four tiny LED lights illuminate to tell you how much power you have left inside.

If you need more capacity, Flux also makes a 10,000mAh battery pack that's very slim. The larger Flux battery pack also includes two USB-A ports, so you can charge any device with its own cable, including USB-C devices.

The Flux doesn't support Quick Charge tech, so it will take longer to juice up your devices, but it should charge smaller phones reasonably quickly.

Most user reviews on Amazon are positive, and several tech sites love it, including Digital Trends and PC Advisor.

Pros: It's as slim as your smartphone, includes lighting and Micro USB cables, fits anywhere, lightweight, and it'll charge your phone at least once

Cons: No USB-C support on the 4,000mAh pack

Buy the 4,000mAh Flux Portable Charger on Amazon for $29.95

Buy the 10,000mAh Flux Portable Charger on Amazon for $59.95

The best giant battery pack

Why you'll love it: The AUKEY 30,000mAh Portable Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 can charge any of your devices, and it can juice them up more than once.

Sometimes you just need a ton of power. The AUKEY 30,000mAh Portable Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 fits the bill with its giant capacity and ability to charge all your devices quickly multiple times.

AUKEY says it can fully charge your iPhone 7 10 times or a 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2.5 times, which is absolutely crazy. You can also charge multiple devices at the same time, and it has ports for every device. There are two USB-A ports for charging with any USB-A to Micro USB, lightning, or USB-C cables.

For those of you with USB-C devices, there's a USB-C charging port, too. AUKEY also includes a USB-A to USB-C cable to help ease the transition for you. When you finally run out of juice, the AUKEY charges up with either a Micro USB or a USB-C cable. The battery pack comes with a 24-month warranty, too, in case something goes wrong.

Buyers on Amazon love the giant battery pack, and many seem to use it for traveling. TechRadar and Best Products highly recommend AUKEY's giant battery packs for people who need tons of extra juice.

Larger battery packs like this one are also very helpful if you live in an area where you may lose power from snowstorms or extreme weather. You can easily recharge all your devices with the AUKEY and have battery left to spare. It's available for a decent price, too.

Pros: Supports Quick Charge 3.0, has a huge capacity, supports USB-C, compatible with Micro USB, and works with lightning cables for the iPhone

Cons: It's huge, heavy, and expensive

Buy the AUKEY 30,000mAh Portable Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 on Amazon for $64.99 (originally $81.99)

Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick is the new owner of the famous penthouse atop New York City's Pierre hotel, Page Six reported.

He apparently got the triplex penthouse at a steep discount.

The property, which belonged to late investor Martin Zweig and his widow, Barbara, hit the market for a record $125 million in the spring of 2013. It then underwent several price chops before eventually going off the market. It last appeared on sale for $57 million in April 2016.

Property records show that an LLC paid $44 million for the spread, The Real Deal reported. Page Six has unmasked Lutnick as the mystery buyer.

The apartment encompasses three floors and was originally the hotel's ballroom. After several years on the market, it had a makeover that gave it a more modern look.

The 16-room spread was most recently listed with Brown Harris Stevens.

Julie Zeveloff contributed reporting to an earlier version of this article.

"The Power of Nature"— Sergio Tapiro Velasco.

Nature, First Place and Grand Prize Winner

"Powerful eruption of Colima Volcano in Mexico on December 13th, 2015. That night, the weather was dry and cold, friction of ash particles generated a big lightning of about 600 meters that connected ash and volcano, and illuminated most of the dark scene. On last part of 2015, this volcano showed a lot of eruptive activity with ash explosions that raised 2-3 km above the crater. Most of night explosions produced incandescent rock falls and lightning not bigger than 100 meters in average."

"To Live."— Hiromi Kano.

"Swans who live vigorous even in mud."

"Crocodiles at Rio Tarcoles"— Tarun Sinha.

Nature, Third Place

"This image was captured in Costa Rica when I was travelling from Monteverde to Playa Hermosa. As you cross over this river, you can stop and peer over the edge of the bridge. Below, reside over 35 gigantic crocodiles, relaxing on the muddy banks of the river. I wanted to capture the stark difference between the crocodiles on land and in the water. In the murky waters, the body contours of these beasts remain hidden, and one can only truly see their girth as they emergefrom the river."
