Kit Harington was named the 'worst-dressed' man of 2017 — and these 9 photos prove why

kit harington

The internet erupted into a fury on Monday when GQ magazine named "Game Of Thrones" actor Kit Harington the "worst-dressed" man of the year.

Although he can wear a turtleneck like no one else, GQ wasn't wrong. Harington's red carpet and everyday styles leave a lot to be desired. From an all-beige ensemble to a pajama-like jacket, keep scrolling to see some of his worst recent looks.

Harington attended the September 2017 British Academy Film Awards in London, UK, in a mismatched ensemble.

With clashing colors from his button-down shirt, gray jeans, and chestnut loafers, Harington's semi-formal outfit was all over the place.

He wore a similarly disjointed outfit to the Giffoni Film Festival in July 2017.

Without accessories like a belt, tie, or jacket, Harington's outfit seemed like it was missing something.

Harington's outfit for the July 2017 season 7 premiere of "Game of Thrones" oddly resembled pajamas.

The combination of Harington's partially unbuttoned shirt, lace suit jacket, and loafers made this outfit look like a very fancy pair of pajamas.

What it's like inside the secret, members-only club hidden in Shanghai Disneyland

club 33 shanghai disney

One of the most exclusive restaurants in Disney Parks is Club 33. The members-only club with a years-long waiting list and a secret entrance in Disneyland opened in 1967.

Another Club 33 opened June 2016 when Shanghai Disney Resort opened in China. Four more are planned to open in each of Walt Disney World's parks. Not anyone can visit Disney's hidden gem. You need to be a member or invited to dine inside.

One way you can get invited is if you visit China through a group vacation with Adventures by Disney. That's what Heather Concannon did this past summer with her family. As part of the tour, they dined at Club 33 in Shanghai's Disneyland park.

If you can't get to Shanghai Disneyland, Concannon shared photos of her trip to Club 33 with INSIDER. Keep reading to see what it's like inside one of the most exclusive clubs Disney has to offer.

Club 33 in Shanghai Disney is hidden in the Main Street area of the park called Mickey Avenue. The entry is marked with a "33" overhead.

"It's basically behind Main Street," said Concannon. "You made a left and next to Shanghai's version of the Emporium they had a little doorway that said 33 above it. You had to ring a doorbell to get in."

When you're looking at a map of Shanghai Disneyland, it's close to the park's entrance.

Concannon said the exit dropped her family right off in Shanghai's version of Downtown Disney called Disneytown.

You can't just show up in your park clothes. The restaurant has a business casual dress code. It's not tough to see why when you enter the atrium and wait to be seated.

Concannon and her family had to drop off their bags and change before dining.

29 celebrities you might not know have famous parents

It's all in the family for some actors.

Some kids decide to head into the same industry as their parents, and the same is true for some of Hollywood's elite.

From Jennifer Aniston to Emma Roberts, here are 29 celebrities who followed in their parent's footsteps.

Mariska Hargitay's mother was Hollywood bombshell Jayne Mansfield.

Born Vera Jayne Palmer, Mansfield was an actress, nightclub entertainer, and one of the earliest Playboy Playmates. She had three kids with her second husband, actor and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, one of which was Mariska.

Mariska and her two brothers were asleep in the backseat of the car with their mother when she and the other two adults in the car were killed in a car accident. Mariska was only three years old. Her mother was 34.

Mariska opened up about losing Mansfield in a 2017 interview with Closer Weekly.

"In some ways, being the daughter of a Hollywood icon has been a burden," she said. "I used to hate constant references to my mom because I wanted to be known for myself. Losing my mother at such a young age is the scar of my soul."

Domhnall Gleeson, known for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens,""Star Wars: The Last Jedi," and "The Revenant," is the son of famed Irish actor Brendan Gleeson.

The two were both in the "Harry Potter" films, Domhnall as Bill Weasley and Brendan as Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody. He and his father have been in multiple projects together, including "Studs" and "Calvary." Domhnall's brother Brian is also an actor. Domhnall told Broadway.com in 2006 that he was initially wary of pursuing an acting career because of his father.

"I'd been very certain about not wanting to do the acting thing because of my father," he said. "I thought I'd always have the father-son thing of 'He got you the part.'"

Zoë Kravitz is the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet and now the stepdaughter of Jason Momoa.

Lenny and Bonet divorced when Zoë was five, but Bonet has been with actor Jason Momoa for 12 years. The couple married in a quiet ceremony this October and have two children together: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa and Lola Iolani Momoa, making them Zoë's half-siblings.

5 ways to position yourself for a promotion in the next 12 months

man looking at phone thinking

2018 is fast approaching. At this time, it might be a good idea to start reviewing your career goals for 2018 to see where you are at.

Did you meet your goals? If not, how far behind are you? Start mapping out measures you can take to give yourself a boost.

The following five actions will position you to have a more successful career in 2018:

SEE ALSO: http://www.businessinsider.com/5-end-of-year-questions-to-ask-yourself-to-make-2018-even-better-2017-12

1. Attend conferences related to your job/role

One of the most effective ways to position yourself for better career opportunities in 2018 is by attending relevant conferences and events in your industry. Many organizations make provisions for interested employees to attend industry conferences to represent them or simply as a way to educate them.

"If you have been shying away from these conferences in the past, you've been hurting your career prospects," says Dan Fox, founder of Boss Laser. "By attending relevant conferences, you can massively increase your network (you suddenly know, and are known by, a lot of people who are relevant to your industry), you can build your skills and experience, you will also get exposed to more opportunities from a diverse group of people compared to if you were simply on your own. By attending conferences, you will also have up-to-date information about industry best practices, news and resources that can aid your career growth."

2. Get an advanced degree

Another way to give yourself a career boost in 2018 is by getting an advanced disagree. If you're yet to have a Master's degree, it might be a good idea to start making plans for it now. This is because most jobs have provisions that allow you to experience an increase in compensation if you get an advanced degree. More importantly, it is impossible to get to most senior management and professional positions without having an advanced degree. Having an advanced degree also increases your career prospects, because the number of entry-level jobs requiring advanced degrees like a Master's degree are increasing.

"An advanced degree can help you secure that elusive promotion you've always desired," says Ayodeji Onibalusi of Effective Inbound Marketing. "A doctorate or masters degree would also boost your confidence and help you secure better job opportunities when you start looking for a new job."

3. Work on relationships with your coworkers and superiors

As we get ready to enter into 2018, one of the questions you should ask yourself is where you stand in terms of your relationship with your co-workers and your superiors. Do you have a good relationship going on with them, or do you believe it's simply sufficient to focus on work and get things done and still move forward in corporate circles? If you don't have a good relationship with coworkers and superiors, it could come back to bite you. In fact, according to experts it is very difficult, and almost impossible, to advance at work without a good relationship with co-workers and superior. If you've not been getting along well with some of your peers at work, it might be a good idea to start fixing things now.

CREDIT SUISSE: How a no-deal Brexit could hit 6 crucial sectors of the British economy

$
0
0

Smiling Union Jack piggy banks are lined up for sale in the window of a souvenir store on Oxford Street in central London January 20, 2014.

  • A no deal Brexit is widely accepted to be bad for the UK economy.
  • Parts of the economy will suffer more than others.
  • Financial services, agriculture, and aviation are among the most at risk industries, according to a note from Credit Suisse analyst Sonali Punhani.

LONDON — "A no deal [Brexit] scenario would entail the disruption of UK trade within European export supply chains," according to a recent note by Credit Suisse research analyst Sonali Punhani.

Brexit talks have hit a stalling point after British Prime Minister Theresa May and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed on Monday that negotiators failed to reach a deal on the first phase of discussions after a disagreement on the Irish border question.

While both sides said that "significant progress" has been made, there is a real possibility that no deal is reached by the time the UK leaves the European Union in March 2019. Economically speaking, no deal is widely acknowledged to be a negative for the UK.

"There is a clear negative impact from no deal... for both sides but especially for the UK economy," Stefaan De Rynck, an advisor to the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier, told a conference in October.

Parts of the UK economy would suffer more than others in a "no deal" scenario, but which would be the worst off? Credit Suisse took a look at what no deal could mean for six key industries within the UK economy.

Financial services: 'Impact can be 65-75,000 jobs; £8-10bn tax revenues; and £18-22bn GVA'

The UK's financial services sector is one of the jewels in the crown of the UK and is a huge contributor to tax revenues, so the failure to secure a Brexit deal would be a major negative to both the sector and the economy as a whole.

Punhani writes: "Studies have shown that in a no deal scenario, the impact can be 65-75,000 [lost] jobs (5-6% of finance jobs); £8-10bn tax revenues (11-14% of FS taxes) and £18-22bn GVA (15-18% of FS GVA). For the economy, these translate to UK GDP reducing by 1.3% relative to baseline, employment by 0.2% and tax revenues by 1.6%."

Agriculture: No deal 'could raise food prices by 8%'

The farming sector is already facing a farm labour "crisis,"according to the deputy president of the National Farmers' Union, which has been exacerbated by the Brexit vote. A no deal Brexit could make things even worse.

"Under WTO rules, the UK will have to pay EU tariffs on agricultural food exports, for example, 36% on dairy products," Credit Suisse writes. "British farmers are likely to lose the subsidy provided by the Common Agriculture Policy, which accounts for 50-60% of their income."

All this could mean higher prices in the shops. Punhani writes: "The UK will also need to impose import tariffs for agricultural goods coming into the UK. Studies show that could raise food prices by 8%, which should add 70bps to UK inflation."

Automotive: 'The UK’s car industry faces a £4.5bn rise in costs'

The automotive sector was one of the first to see major coverage after the Brexit vote when the government gave guarantees to Japanese firm Nissan to ensure it kept a major operation in the North East city of Sunderland.

Britain's auto sector has deep links with the EU and, as a result, would suffer hugely if trade barriers were imposed in a no deal Brexit.

"Studies suggest that the UK’s car industry faces a £4.5bn rise in costs in a no deal scenario, 15% rise in car prices, adding 70bps to overall inflation and 20% fall in car sales," Credit Suisse said.

A new 'Mega Man' game is being made for the first time in nearly 10 years — and it looks rad

Gaming classic "Mega Man" is getting its next major entry in 2018. The game is "Mega Man 11," and it looks rad.

Mega Man 11

"Mega Man 11" is scheduled to arrive in "late 2018" on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Alongside some pretty images, a brand new trailer offers a lot of clues of what to expect in the next major "Mega Man" game.

Here's what we spotted!

SEE ALSO: The Nintendo Switch is the hottest game system of the year — here are its 15 best games

The last major "Mega Man" game came out in 2010 — it was called "Mega Man 10," and it looked more like classic 8-bit games than the new game.

"Mega Man 11" evolves that visual style dramatically.

The game's maker, Japanese game company Capcom, calls it a "2.5D" art style — mixing classic two-dimensional gameplay with 3D artwork.

A good example of what Capcom is talking about can be seen above where the ladder is — it's seemingly set back into the screen. The enemy next to the ladder, hiding under his construction helmet, is another good example.

It's a subtle difference, but it makes the levels look far more rich than they already did in previous games.

6 things that will actually make your nails stronger

$
0
0

Legally blonde nails

The key to having healthy nails is having strong nails. But as you probably know, your nails go through a lot every day that can make them brittle and even break. The good news is that you have a lot of solid options to pump up your nail strength.

Although it’s true that you might need to take some strategic action to make your nails the best that they can be, the even better news is that most of the changes that will improve your nails strength are healthy overall lifestyle changes as well.

Wear rubber gloves when you’re cleaning

Both water and chemicals can contribute to brittle and weak nails, no matter what kind of cleaners you’re using. You wouldn’t take the time and effort to get your hair just right and then go for a run outside in the pouring rain, would you? Treat your nails with the same level of care.

Speaking of showers, when’s the last time you thought about what your shampoo is doing to your nails? Maybe not ever — but you should. As Dr. Stern told WebMD, "If your nails are very dry and you are using any soap product that strips the oils, there is the potential to dry the nails."

Keep your nails trimmed

Long nails may be beautiful, but they’re also more damage-prone. As Dr. Samer Jaber of Washington Square Dermatology in NYC told Reader’s Digest, "Keep your nails shorter, as the longer they are, the easier it is for them to get traumatized.”

Dr. Stern told INSIDER that keeping your nails shorter means there’s less nail surface area available to absorb both water and potentially drying chemicals.

Consider upping your biotin intake

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin B coenzyme that you can find in supplement form at health food stores. Dermatologist and NYC-based nail health specialist Dr. Dana Stern told INSIDER that an amount between 2000 mcg and 3000 mcg (micrograms) is the recommended daily dosage for biotin in supplement form. She also advises that since nails grow slowly, you should expect to see biotin benefits in 4 months for fingernails and 9 months for toenails.

What about other dietary sources? Dr. Stern says that it’s an extreme rarity to see biotin deficiency in this country, but trends like juicing can sometimes lead down that path. Naturally, biotin-rich foods include cold-water fish such as salmon, almonds, peanuts, Swiss chard, and eggs. It’s definitely a plus when foods are good for us AND good for our nails.

It's worth noting that not all experts are unanimous about whether biotin can actually improve your nail strength, so proceed with caution.

Quebec City, Canada

This stylish city has a lot to offer in terms of chic accommodation, but the castle-style Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac – right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Quebec – has it all. Old World glamour comes in the form of custom crystal chandeliers, Italian blue onyx paneling, and the real showstopper: a turreted copper roof. No holiday season spent in Quebec would be complete without a trip to Le Marché de Noël Allemand – the authentic German Christmas market.

Chalet-style wooden stalls hawk German fare, local produce, and regional holiday gifts, and when shopping fatigue or a food coma hits, you can pause to take in a choir performance or puppet theater show. From there, narrow cobblestone streets, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them boutiques and some of Quebec’s oldest homes make Rue du Petit-Champlain and Place-Royale the place for a romantic stroll. Guaranteed you’ll feel like you’re inside a snow globe – fresh flurries or not.

Park City, Utah

Nestled on the top of Empire Pass, overlooking greater Park City, you’ll find the mountain-meets-modern Montage Deer Valley – your home base for a Park City ski vacay. Between skiing and boarding the Wasatch Mountain range, and taking bobsled runs at Utah Olympic Park, it’s all about downtime in your enormous guestroom (average rooms ring in at 600-square-feet!).

10 things to do in South Africa that are not total tourist traps

Hout Bay South Africa

Known for its natural beauty and some of the best cuisine in the world, South Africa is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. Travelers should make the long flight worth it by touring it like the locals do. Here are the top 10 things to do in South Africa, according to locals.

Hang out with some penguins

Rather than taking a train to Boulders Beach and paying the R70 entrance fee (about $5), locals hit the adjacent beach.

Simon’s Town is home to the largest colony of African penguins in the world. Although they are used to people watching and sitting near them, don’t get too close: they bite!

Marguerite Smit, a South African consultant at Travel Beyond, recommends skipping Boulders Beach altogether and heading east. Travelers can hop in a catamaran and see the penguin colony that way.

Take a ride on the Garden Route

Americans are generally wary of driving through a foreign land, says Smit. Still, travelers should not miss out on the Garden Route, which spans about 186 miles from Mossel Bay to Storms River.

Although there are touristy stops on the way, like bungee jumping and lion walks, the beautiful views are not to be missed. Smit suggests opting for a meerkat experience along the route.

Shop sustainably

South African designers are known for their use of sustainable fabrics. Shop locally, regardless of the region you’re in.

The best shopping in Cape Town proper can be found on Kloof Street and Long Street; the latter is the host of a bevy of vintage stores, such as Afraid of Mice and Second Time Around. Neighborhoods like Claremont and Woodstock have a handful of independent stores and co-ops that sell unique goods found nowhere else.

In Maboneng, Johannesburg, the arts district is a great place to shop for locally-designed clothing and jewelry, says Smit.

These candles smell like home, and they're the perfect gift this holiday season

Homesick candles

The holiday season is all about families and friends coming together to celebrate, eat good food, and open presents. But sometimes, you can't make it home for the holidays and you end up feeling a bit homesick. There's one sure-fire way to erase the holiday blues and that's with an awesome candle that will conjure memories of your home city, state, or favorite experience.

Homesick makes classic white candles with customized scents for each of the 50 states, several cities, and experiences like being in grandma's kitchen, smelling books, or heading off to summer camp.

It may sound crazy, but scent is very closely tied to memory. That's why when you smell cookies baking in the oven, you feel like you're back in your kitchen helping grandma decorate cookies with icing and sprinkles.

To come up with the customized scents for each city and state, Homesick polled people from those areas to find out what home smelled like to them. The results range from the hilarious — like Jewish Christmas, which smells like, "Buttered popcorn and a movie at the local theatre followed by an overindulgence of Chinese food with friends and family,"— to the classics, like Grandma's Kitchen, which smells like "The scents of rich butter mixed with touches of apple, cinnamon, clove and a hint of sugar cookie. Tonka bean and sugar finish out this homey aroma."

Each candle is made from all-natural soy wax, which is hand-poured into a classy glass container. The simple black and white labels look cool and let you know what candle you're smelling. The candles come in cute, colorful boxes, making them perfect gifts for anyone who wants a whiff of nostalgia in their home away from home. Homesick's candles are also really reasonably priced at $29.95 and you get free one-day shipping on Amazon.

Homesick's New York City candle smells like Macy's in Herald Square

As denizens of New York City, the Insider Picks team typically remembers the malodorous smells we catch a whiff on the street rather than the candle's idealistic"scents of spring days in Central Park, Fine department stores, and concrete."

Insider Picks reporter Mara Leighton said it best when she described the candle as "what New York smells like in your dreams before you actually move here." Still, we cannot deny that the candle smells a lot like Macy's in Herald Square, of that the scent is infinitely preferable to the iffy smell of the city streets and the subway.

When I burned the NYC candle in my apartment, it smelled amazing. The gentle scent made my entire apartment smell great, and it burned evenly without whittling down the wick at all even after several hours.

Homesick's Holiday candle smells like Grandma's house in the woods

The Holiday candle hit all the right notes with its scents of "freshly cut Pine trees and pomander balls; Mom's sugar cookies and Grandma's pies, warm from the oven." The whole Insider Picks team agreed that it smelled wonderful.

I brought it home to test in my apartment, and it was wonderful. Just like the NYC candle, it burned evenly and beautifully all evening long. The scent of this Holiday candle is even more aromatic and lovely — especially for this time of year.

When I closed, my eyes, the gentle pine scent reminded me of Christmastime at my Grandma's house, which was surrounded by pine trees. The hint of cinnamon in there brought me right back to baking Swedish cinnamon buns with her, too. It's my favorite of the two I tried.

There's nothing better than a beautiful candle to bring holiday cheer and coziness to your home.

The surprising ways that Mercury retrograde will affect your relationships

If you’re not an expert in all things astrology, hearing someone mention that Mercury is in or is going into retrograde may sound a bit foreign to you. After all, what does that even mean? Is it just an excuse for people to communicate poorly or have bad attitudes? Is it something that really happens or is it some sort of unsolved mystery? Does Mercury in retrograde have an effect on the way you communicate with those in your life?

Though it may be a little confusing at first to understand, astrologer Leslie Benson, founder of the website Astrology for Awakening, told INSIDER that Mercury retrograde is very real and has a bigger impact on our lives than we probably realize.

"In modern western astrology, Mercury represents the areas of life involving mental functions, attaining knowledge, communications, and short travels," she revealed. "Mercury goes into retrograde motion, which is when the planet appears as though it slows to a standstill in the sky, and then begins moving backward in the opposite direction for a few weeks, where it again stops and then begins to move forward again. The planet doesn’t actually move backward, it just appears as though it does from our earthly vantage point.  When this time comes along, it has corresponding symbolism and indications in astrological meaning."

Mercury retrograde happens between three and four times a year and although its effects may not be noticeable to you at first, once you start to take stock of the way events in your life are altering, you’ll see how much of an impact it truly does have on the relationships that surround you.

Each zodiac sign is affected differently.

Though everyone will see a change, Mercury going into retrograde will not have the same effect on everyone. This is mostly dependent upon what part of the zodiac Mercury is traveling retrograde through, and how that particular position relates to a person’s birth chart.

"Those whose ruling planet is Mercury — people with Gemini Rising or Virgo Rising — may be more in tune with the planet’s cycles, so they could have a heightened experience of it," Benson said. "If someone has an otherwise strongly placed Mercury in their birth chart, or their sun sign falls under the rulership of Mercury — either Gemini Sun or Virgo Sun — they may be more in touch with the Mercurial energies, as well."

Researching your own birth chart can help you figure out exactly how you’ll feel when the retrograde hits.

Mercury retrograde can have a positive impact on everyone.

Though Benson noted that the effects will be different depending on the part of the zodiac Mercury is traveling retrograde through, everyone will end up experiencing an overall positive impact from the event because it causes us to focus more on ourselves.

"Mercury retrograde asks us to turn our energies more inward toward the relationship we have with ourselves.  It promotes self-reflection and slowing down to reorient and re-prioritize" she told us. "This can have a positive effect on our relationships, if and when we endeavor to take it as an opportunity to love ourselves more fully, and improve the relationship we have with ourselves. Holding ourselves in loving kindness and positive regard, helps us relate to others in the same way, with a lot less of our own fear or pain getting in the way."

Confirming the age old mantra that you have to love yourself first before trying to love someone else, Benson said that Mercury retrograde will help us love ourselves before we can love others.

Likewise, Mercury going into retrograde has negative effects on everyone, too.

Although Mercury retrograde provides a means of self-awareness and enlightenment to your spirit, it can also prove to bring a bit of chaos to you life if you let it.

"Mercury retrograde can turn into a very bumpy ride if we are not listening to what life is asking of us, are rushing, are lacking self-awareness, or if we are trying to push our own agendas," Benson told INSIDER. "This disruption to the normal flow of things has a way of getting our attention so that we can tend to those areas of life where mishaps occur in appropriate and empowering ways."

So, be sure to pay close attention to the way the events are altering in your life and how your body is reacting.

20 under-the-radar travel destinations to visit before they get too popular

Malta

Every year, the United Nations World Tourism Organization tracks travel trends to predict the newest up-and-coming destinations.

The organization tracks international visitors and presents information about which countries are spiking interest. And over the past year, some unlikely countries have emerged as front-runners.

Despite long-standing conflict in the Middle East, more visitors are venturing to countries like Palestine, Egypt and Tunisia. South American destinations, like Uruguay and Chile, have also seen impressive growth over the past year.

If you’re looking to travel to the coolest destinations before everybody else, consider this list your guide.

1. Palestinian Territories

Over the past year, international tourist visits to Palestine increased almost 58%. The West Bank sees the most visitors around Christmas when Bethlehem hosts a midnight mass.

2. Egypt

As violence in the country decreases, tourism numbers increased 51% in Egypt last year. Tourists can visit ancient monuments like the Pyramids of Giza or something more modern, like a screaming room at this bookstore.

3. Northern Mariana Islands

This U.S. territory saw a 37% tourist growth over the past year. The tropical archipelago, northeast of Guam, is known for its casinos and beaches lined with palm trees.

The biggest NFL Draft busts of the last 15 years

Johnny Manziel

If you're looking to forecast the next generation of NFL stars, just take a look at the first round of the most recent draft. Savvy organizations can find value in all seven rounds, but in terms of success rate, there's no better bet than the first 32 picks.

But for every Peyton Manning or Von Miller, there is another former top prospect who didn't pan out. Whether they failed because of injuries, substance abuse, or simply poor play, all of these players provide fascinating case studies of the NFL's demanding environment and the fleeting nature of athletic success.

Below, read all about 20 of the most notorious draft busts from recent NFL history.

Justin Blackmon, WR

School: Oklahoma State

Selected: 5th overall, 2012 draft, Jacksonville Jaguars

Played for: Jacksonville Jaguars

One thing to know: Blackmon is a stark example of how drug and alcohol use can derail a promising career. The two-time consensus All-American struggled to control his drinking in college, but the Jaguars took a chance on him anyway. Things started out well enough, but after leading all rookies with 865 receiving yards in 2012, Blackmon was hit with two suspensions during the 2013 season and hasn't played in the NFL since. He was arrested for a DUI in late 2015.

Maurice Clarett, RB

School: Ohio State

Selected: 101st overall, 2005 draft, Denver Broncos

Played for: N/A

One thing to know: This Ohio native was never the most coveted prospect out there, but his bizarre story makes him a noteworthy disappointment all the same. After a futile attempt to enter the 2004 draft as a sophomore and the loss his NCAA eligibility for that fall, Clarett should have arrived at the 2005 combine with a chip on his shoulder. Instead, he posted lackluster times of 4.72 and 4.82 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Undeterred, the Broncos still made a ridiculous reach to get him in the third round, but they got their just desserts when he washed out of training camp and never appeared in an NFL game.

Aaron Curry, LB

School: Texas A&M

Selected: 4th overall, 2009 draft, Seattle Seahawks

Played for: Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders

One thing to know: Curry was a polished and tremendously versatile prospect when he was selected, earning the highest draft position of any linebacker since LaVar Arrington in 2000. While some analysts deemed him the safest prospect available, he lost his motivation and struggled in the Seattle, recording just 5.5 sacks in three seasons. He's now trying to make it as an NFL coach; he was seen at the Carolina Panthers training camp this summer.

DON'T MISS: 19 terrible things bartenders wish you would stop doing

'Hello'

This one may seem simple, but a smile, a name, and a confident handshake can sometimes go a long way, writes Ariella Coombs for Careerealism.com.

"Sometimes the easiest way to meet someone is to offer a handshake and say 'hi,'" she writes.

'I'll be honest, the only person I know here is the bartender, and I just met him two minutes ago. Mind if I introduce myself?'

Humor is a good method to put another attendee at ease and jump-start a lighthearted conversation.

'What do you do for fun when you're not working?'

Asking personal questions about people's activities outside of work can help solidify a connection, Shan White, owner of Women's Peak Performance Coaching, tells Refinery29.

Asking about someone's after-work hobbies is "semi-personal, yet still professionally acceptable to ask," White says. "This can bring some levity and humor into the conversation while also letting you see what lights them up — what brings them real joy."

The definitive order in which you should be applying your skin-care products

gilmore girls

With new skin-care products entering the marketplace, like serums and Micellar water, it can be hard to know how and when to use them together. However, there is a definitive order that you should actually be applying them.

Some products, like oils and creams, seal off the skin and make it difficult for other ingredients to absorb quickly. You want to make sure that the products you’re layering on your skin are working at their maximum capacity, not canceling out one another.

"Generally speaking, we recommend applying skin-care products from lightest consistency to heaviest," Dr. Joshua Zeichner, a New York City-based dermatologist, told INSIDER. "The idea here is not to interfere with absorption of ingredients in any of the top layer products."

Dr. Zeichner recommends applying the following products in the following order:

Cleanser

Good skin care starts with washing your face. Different cleansers work best for different skin types. A foaming cleanser will help deep clean your pores but may be too drying for sensitive skin, for example.

Because cleansers don’t stay on for long, there is not a big difference between drugstore and department store brands. Sebamed and CeraVe make great, affordable cleansers.

Toner or essence

Toners serve a few purposes. They typically pick up all the gunk left on your face at the end of the night, balance the pH of your skin if your soap is particularly harsh, and add extra hydration. Planted in Beauty makes a particularly hydrating toner, while Clinique’s toners are skin-type specific and a great value.  Micellar water also works for this step.

Essences are kind of like a midway product between toner — watery and lightweight — and serum — containing a high concentration of active ingredients and similar in texture. However, some serums will market themselves as essences, particularly with Korean beauty products.

Serum

A serum, or booster, is the best way to have high-quality, potent ingredients sink into your skin. Your skin needs will personalize what kinds of serums you use.

BeautyRx by Dr. Schultz has a great Vitamin C serum, as does Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum. Some serums will also help prep skin for the next day, like Fig + Yarrow’s Night Nutrient Booster Serum, which protects against free-radicals and environmental stressors.
