rihanna fenty beauty event

  • People come in all different colors and hues, so everyone should have access to makeup products, including foundation or concealer, that fit their skin tone at every spectrum of their price range.
  • Recently, many brands have shown their true colors (literally) when it comes to their lack of fitting color choices, specifically for those with darker skin tones.
  • These 11 brands have established themselves as accommodating to beauty of every color, each with a wide range of choices and shades.

We should all know by now that
beauty is everywhere, in many different colors, shapes, and forms. Here’s the problem: though the societal definition of beauty can and should expand to fit everyone, many beauty brands, from high-end to affordable, aren’t doing their parts when it comes to making sure their products are available for all people of all skin tones and textures.

Brands like Tarte and IT Cosmetics have recently come under fire for the shade range — or lack thereof — leaving many makeup wearers at a loss when it comes to finding their a color that works for them.

That said, several brands are doing their part to make sure that there’s something for everyone, not just a one-size-fits-all product or approach. These 11 brands are helping to showcase all kinds of beauty, without barriers or exclusivity.

FENTY Beauty

Rihanna’s highly-popular cosmetics line, FENTY Beauty, which is only available in Sephora stores or online, centers itself around the idea of inclusivity.

The brand’s signature, the high-coverage, ultra-matte Pro Filt’r Foundation, comes in a huge variety of shades— 40, to be exact.

Rihanna also crafted the other products in the line, including red lipstick, to flatter any and all skin tones. It was named one of 2017’s greatest inventions for a reason.

Cover FX

Though this Instagram-friendly brand is mostly known for its high-impact, dew drop-style liquid highlighters, Cover FX also carries a multitude of colors when it comes to each different formula of its foundation.

Cover FX’s powder, cream, and liquid foundations all come in 40 shades, not to mention their concealers are available in wide ranges of colors and formulas as well. Fans of the products can purchase them in Sephora, Ulta, or in their online stores.

Bobbi Brown

Beauty industry standard Bobbi Brown has been producing quality products since the ‘90s and one of the brand’s biggest triumphs is its extensive array of colors.

Each of the foundations comes in 30 shades, and they’ve earned high marks from popular black YouTubers like MakeupShayla, Nyma Tang, and Jackie Aina. They’re also available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s, and more.

The incredible life and career of Warren Buffett, the billionaire every investor looks to for inspiration

Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett's annual letter to shareholders will be published around 7:45 a.m. ET on Saturday.

The document draws huge interest in the financial world, even among those who don't have a stake in Berkshire Hathaway or its investments. Business Insider will cover it, and you can check back on Saturday for updates.

Typically, readers pays close attention to Buffett's thoughts on the economy and signals of where he might consider investing.

That's no surprise considering Buffett's history of wealth creation and lifetime of accomplishments.

Following are interesting things we've gleaned from the billionaire's eventful, 87-year-long life.

The "Oracle of Omaha" was born in 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Howard and Leila Buffett. His father was four-term US congressman from Nebraska and a stockbroker.

Source: Investopedia

While most kids were playing stickball out in the street, Buffett was rubbing elbows with Wall Street's most powerful players.

At age 10, Buffett had his "road to Damascus" moment, on Wall Street.

During a visit to New York City, Buffett and his father joined At Mol, a Dutchman who was a member of the New York Stock Exchange, for lunch.

"After lunch, a guy came along with a tray that had all these different kinds of tobacco leaves on it," Buffett recalled. "He made a cigar for Mr. Mol, who picked out the leaves he wanted. And I thought, this is it. It can't get any better than this. A custom-made cigar."

It was at that moment Buffett realized he would dedicate his life to making money.

Source: Business Insider

Buffett caught the investing bug early. When he was 11 years old he purchased his first stock.

He bought three shares of Cities Services Preferred at $38 per share. The young Buffett held on to them despite a quick price drop, to $27 per share, but sold them as soon as they reached $40.

Buffett's small profit could have been tremendous if he had waited it out a little longer, as the price of Cities Services Preferred's stock ultimately soared to nearly $200 per share.

The experience imparted an important financial lesson, which has informed his investment decisions to this day: Buy and hold.

  • In sectors that rely on human capital, employee satisfaction can be a big driver of company success.
  • Glassdoor ratings and company performance are well correlated, according to UBS.
  • The Swiss bank identified 15 companies that have high Glassdoor ratings that investors should consider.

Employee motivation may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering which stocks will perform well. But according to UBS, it's a key factor for certain companies that investors should be paying attention to.

"In sectors where human capital is a significant component of firm value, companies with relatively higher employee motivation have a competitive advantage which should result in improved financial statement quality and growth over the long term," analyst Oliver Antrobus wrote in the note.

UBS looked at Glassdoor employee ratings of companies, and found a strong correlation between employee satisfaction and future financial results.

A UBS graph shows that companies with relatively high Glassdoor employee satisfaction scores yield excess returns relative to portfolios of retailing stocks. The reverse is true for companies with poor Glassdoor scores.

An anti-NRA movement is calling for the boycott of these 18 companies

gun control rally

  • A mass shooting that killed 17 people at a Florida high school has spurred a growing number of calls for companies to cut ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA).
  • A number of retailers still offer perks to NRA members.
  • These discounts help retain NRA members, according to Boycott NRA Partners.

On February 14, gunman Nikolas Cruz allegedly killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The shooting swiftly reinvigorated a national debate on gun control, with the teenage survivors leading the charge on demands for reform.

Some of the backlash has centered on the National Rifle Association (NRA), an organization that promotes gun rights in the United States. As multiple news outlets havenoted, the NRA has become a strong political force, due largely to its political donations and millions of members.

One big way that the NRA retains its members is through discounts on everything from car insurance to hotel rooms. Dozens of American companies have partnered with the NRA to offer special perks to members. On the NRA membership benefits page, it stresses the "access to hundreds of dollars in savings" as a reason to join the organization.

As of this writing, the hashtag #BoycottNRA has garnered more than 2.1 million impressions.

Several companies have decided to stop offering discounts to NRA members after the Florida shooting. They include Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National, Alamo, Hertz, and Avis Budget Group.

An activist group, which simply calls itself "Boycott NRA Partners," has created a Google Doc that lists retailers that haven't cut ties with the NRA. Below are the ones that Business Insider could verify:

Winter Olympics

Among the most intense sports at the Winter Olympics are the bobsled events, or officially, "bobsleigh."

The bobsled events that most of us are familiar with involve what look like miniature rockets propelling down a man-made track at extreme velocities, often under the cover of a roof to protect the track from the elements.

But things were much different nearly 100 years ago when the sport was part of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, held in Chamonix, France.

Below is a look at just how much the sport has evolved through the years, with a lot of help from the IOC who collected video from many of the Olympiads. You can see that video here.

The 50 best places to live in America

austin texas

  • U.S. News & World Report releases a list of the best places to live in America every year.
  • The best places to live 2017 ranking looked at five metrics: job market, value, quality of life, desirability, and net migration.
  • The best place to live in America is Austin, Texas, followed by Denver, Colorado.

When deciding where to put down roots, many factors are in the eye of the beholder, such as climate, politics, or proximity to extended family.

Other aspects are coveted by nearly everybody: affordable housing, access to well-paying jobs, a low cost of living, good schools, and quality healthcare. In its ranking of the best places to live in America for 2017, U.S. News & World Report gathered data on these crucial components for the 100 most populous US cities.

They then categorized the data into five indexes for each city — job market, value, quality of life, desirability, and net migration — to definitively rank these major metro areas. You can read U.S. News' full methodology here.

Scores for "value," a blend of annual household income and cost of living, and "quality of life," which accounts for crime, college readiness, commute, and other factors, are included below on a 10-point scale, as well as the city’s population and median annual salary.

Keep reading to discover the 50 best places to live in America.

More than a dozen Fortune 500 companies call the city home, including Delta, The Home Depot, and The Coca-Cola Company, and it's an increasingly popular spot for film productions.

In addition, "The Chattahoochee River that traverses the metro area, and Stone Mountain, the world's largest chunk of exposed granite, located just northeast of the city proper, also offer a quick escape from any urban anxiety," says one local expert.

SpaceX's biggest rival has a 'genius' plan to cut its rocket launch costs more than 70%

vulcan rocket flight illustration united launch alliance ula youtube

SpaceX turned heads around the world on February 6 with the first-ever launch of Falcon Heavy.

The 230-foot-tall rocket's three boosters helped push Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster into space, peeled off after running low on fuel, and then careened toward Earth.

Two of the 16-story boosters rocketed to a safe landing (the third fell into the ocean), and the flight was hailed as a huge success. It proved SpaceX could lift twice as much payload to space for about 25% of the cost of its closest competitor while recycling rocket parts worth tens of millions of dollars.

That primary rival is United Launch Alliance, a company that aerospace industry titans Boeing and Lockheed Martin formed in 2005.

ULA's largest rocket, the Delta IV Heavy, costs $350 million per launch, according to company CEO Tory Bruno. Delta IV Heavy is far more expensive that SpaceX's $90-million Falcon Heavy in part because it isn't reusable.

ULA plans to retire that launcher after about seven more missions, but the company is currently developing its own reusable rocket, dubbed Vulcan, to compete with innovative companies like Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin.

"Vulcan will first fly in mid-2020," Bruno told Business Insider, adding that the rocket "will start at sub-$100-million"— a 70% discount compared to the company's Delta IV Heavy.

Here's what Vulcan will be capable of, why one ULA engineer described its recovery system as "genius," and how the rocket may earn its keep in an increasingly crowded and challenging industry.

Delta IV Heavy used to be the world's most powerful operational rocket. It can send nearly 32 tons of payload into low-Earth orbit — more than two standard school buses' worth of weight.

Sources: CNN, SCAPT

Since Bruno took the helm of ULA in 2014, the company has been developing its more powerful and partly reusable Vulcan rocket system. That's supposed to launch for the first time in mid-2020.

"Sometimes it's more than just, 'Hey my rocket's really big,'" Bruno said. "Sometimes you need the rocket to do some rather unique and exotic things after they're up in orbit."

Vulcan should lift 40 tons (nearly three school buses) into low-Earth orbit.

"Vulcan is modular, so you can add solid rocket boosters to kick up its size," Bruno said.

Wall Street banks are coming off a strong year in 2017, and their company boards are rewarding the chief executives with fat pay raises.

Despite a lousy year in trading beset by record-low volatility, each of the big banks — buoyed by strong performance in their investment banking, wealth management, and retail banking operations — posted strong adjusted earnings that beat analyst expectations.

With bonus season now out of the way for the rest of bank employees, the CEOs have now been awarded their pay packages. And given the strong overall performance last year, they're quite generous.

Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat saw his total compensation increase 48% to $23 million, the bank announced in a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday. Citi stock increased 25.2% in 2017.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein saw his pay bumped 9% to $24 million, the bank announced in a similar filing on Friday. Goldman Sachs stock price increased 6.4% in 2017.

Here's how much the each of the big bank CEOs earned for 2017 — including JPMorgan Chase's Jamie Dimon, Morgan Stanley's James Gorman, and Bank of America's Brian Moynihan, but not including Wells Fargo's Tim Sloan, who just finished his first full year as CEO and whose pay hasn't been reported.

The CEOs are ordered by total awarded compensation, from lowest to highest.

Note: All compensation figures are as reported in filings to the SEC or as confirmed by the bank. They include both current and deferred compensation awards.

The Echo Spot is the only Amazon device with a tiny, round screen — and that's both the best and worst thing about using it (AMZN)

Echo Spot

Amazon's Echo Spot is in an unusual position in the Echo family.

It has a screen, but not one big enough for serious video-watching.

It's small, but not as small as the Echo Dot.

It can play music, but it doesn't sound as good as the Echo or Echo Show.

So, what is it for?

After several weeks of testing the Spot, I'm still not really sure. At launch, the Echo Spot's primary purpose seemed to be acting as a smart alarm clock for your bedside table or nightstand. It can certainly do that, but it also seems a bit overqualified for the position.

The Echo Spot has Alexa.

It can make video calls.

It can play music videos.

It can make visual lists and reminders.

It can play music.

And — of course — it can display the time.

It does all the things a regular Echo can do, but it does them on a 2.5-inch touchscreen.

And in the end, it was the screen that ended up being both the best and the worst thing about the Echo Spot.

SEE ALSO: A complete guide to the Amazon Echo family, the smart speakers that will change your home forever

Here's the Spot on my bedside table. It just seems like a fancy digital clock on the surface.

It looks incredibly nice, though! In fact, I think it's the best-looking Amazon Echo device you can buy. The shape is ergonomic, the materials feel high-quality, and it's about the size of a softball: not too big, not too small.

There's a camera above the screen, and you can use it to make video calls — just say, "Alexa, video call Jane," and it will call Jane. Even the software design on the Spot is modern and clean, as evidenced by the calling interface.

14 luxury car brands people love more than Tesla

$

Tesla Model 3

  • It's no secret that Tesla owners love their cars, but the general public may not share the same affection for the brand.
  • Tesla ranked last for positive brand perception compared to 14 other luxury car brands, according to a recent industry report.
  • News around the brand, including recalls and the fatal Tesla Autopilot crash, were factors that played into the low ranking.

Tesla may be one of the best known and most-loved car brands around, but that doesn't mean the company is immune to bad news.

This week NetBase unveiled its 2018 "Luxury Brands" industry report — mining data from billions of sources including social media sites, news articles, blog posts, social review sites, and forums — to discover how people feel about certain high-end brands.

In the automobile category, Tesla Motors ranked last for "net sentiment"— how positively a brand is perceived — with a score of just 36%. That's surprising, given Tesla was ranked number one on Consumer Reports 2017 Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey.

Land Rover was the most positively viewed brand, with a net sentiment score of 90%. Jaguar was the only other car brand to score below 50% for net sentiment, coming in at 44%.

Netbase Passion Index

A few factors may play into Tesla's low net sentiment score. NetBase concluded that safety is ruling the conversation for luxury car brands — something Tesla has struggled with lately.

In April of 2017, Tesla recalled 53,000 of its Model S and Model X cars globally for a parking brake issue, which caused a stir on Twitter. And in June, news came out about the fatal Tesla Autopilot crash, which killed driver Joshua Brown the year before.

For better or worse, Tesla Motors is one of the most talked about brands. It landed at number three of 15 for mentions, and compared to other luxury brands in various categories — such as fashion, jewelry, and hotels — Tesla's overall brand awareness is very high.

To determine its rankings, NetBase analyzed each brand's overall performance for various factors, including: mentions (the volume of conversation happening around that brand), brand awareness (as a measure of earned impressions), reach (a measure of owned impressions), net sentiment (how positively a brand is perceived on a scale of +100% to -100%), and brand passion (the amount of emotion towards a brand). Their analysis was based on posts between January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2018 — looking at English-written posts and stories internationally.

Scroll through to see how luxury automobile brands ranked on Netbase's net sentiment score and overall mentions.

The top 20 Marvel Cinematic Universe villains, ranked from worst to best

$

tom hiddleston loki the dark world

The biggest problem with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is its villains.

"Black Panther" has been praised for having one of the best villains in the universe (and in movie history). Loki, who fluctuates loyalty so often it's hard to keep up, is another great example.

But many of the other villains aren't exactly compelling. There's not much there in terms of the motives, goals, and overall, a lot of them don't feel like a genuine threat to our heroes. But that doesn't mean that all of these MCU villains are bad: they're just forgettable, even in some of the best movies to date including "Iron Man 3,""Ant-Man," and "Captain America: Civil War."

Still, there are a few gems in there, and we took a look at the top 20 to give you a sense of which were the best.

This list doesn't include all villains in the MCU: just major ones with some very special exceptions (Jeff Goldblum). It also excludes Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes and Nebula, who are good now and it was kind of obvious they would be eventually.

Here's our ranking of the MCU villains, from worst to best:

SEE ALSO: 'Black Panther' had one of the best opening weekends in movie history — here's how it stacks up against the biggest blockbusters of all time

20. Thanos, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and end credit scenes in "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron"

We still don’t know that much about Thanos, besides the fact he’s had multiple redesigns and has been played by several actors. But so far, he’s been mediocre: he’s not as menacing as character like Red Skull and his connection to the heroes: being Nebula and Gamora’s father - isn’t nearly as powerful as Ego’s connection to Starlord or Thor’s connection to Loki. We’ll know more about whether he’s a good villain or not after “Avengers: Infinity War.”

19. Emil Blonsky/Abomination, “The Incredible Hulk”

Remember when Ed Norton was the Hulk? Tim Roth played the Abomination, and it wasn’t bad, but he was pretty much only there to help Hulk destroy as many buildings as possible.

18. Whiplash, "Iron Man 2"

Mickey Rourke was having quite the moment when “Iron Man 2” came out, being nominated for a best actor Oscar for his role in "The Wrestler." In the marketing and trailers, his character, Whiplash, seemed menacing, creepy, and a major threat. But he was just kind of there. The movie is bad, his character is lame, and Rourke’s lack of enthusiasm didn’t help — especially compared to Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer.

Carl's Jr. Breakfast Burger

  • One of Carl's Jr.'s signature sandwiches is the "Breakfast Burger."
  • It's essentially a burger with egg, bacon, cheese, and potatoes.
  • While it's not as bad as it sounds, it's not the absolute best either.

Carl’s Jr. is more known across the country for its titillating history of ad campaigns than its food. Yet during my recent first-time foray to the chain, I noticed something rather strange stood out on the menu: the "Breakfast Burger."

On lazy weekend mornings as a kid, I remember my mom throwing a stray sirloin steak — one that didn’t make the cut as dinner during the week — onto the cast-iron pan and searing it aside a pan of scrambled eggs. In essence, it was a breakfast steak.

Although it sounds pretty normal now, I thought it rather decadent at the time — even then, I knew that steaks are expensive cuts of meat. But it was delicious: a fantastic balance between savory and tender rare steak, salted just so, and the rich and fluffy eggs folded with butter and a dash of milk or cream.

So the idea of a breakfast burger seemed vaguely familiar; beef and egg, just as memory served! Yet this is fast-food, not a cozy kitchen on a Sunday morning. And Carl's Jr. is, judging from the past, more apt to go overboard with a burger than to play it easy. Of course, as one expects, this sandwich turns out to be another beast entirely.

ALSO READ: We ranked everything on McDonald's All Day Breakfast menu from worst to best — here's the final verdict

It’s a hefty sandwich: a beef patty, bacon slices, an egg fold, hash brown rounds, cheese, and ketchup all squished into a sesame seed bun. It’s literally an entire breakfast in a bun, like a McDonald’s McGriddle, but supercharged.

Immediately, my main concern is that the egg is, well, not an egg. Is it real? It’s definitely egg, but it’s not the honest-to-goodness, yolk-in-the-middle egg one hopes for. It’s the usual bland fast-food egg fold that everyone knows and nobody loves.

That aside, the burger isn’t all that bad when approached as a normal burger that happens to have some egg on it. The bacon is decent — not too salty, but it adds enough smokiness to bring depth to each bite.

obama bush clinton presidents cup

For many former presidents, literature has played a huge role in shaping their worldview, and how they approach decision-making.

The elder George Bush said he learned everything about life from reading Leo Tolstoy's multi-generational epic 'War and Peace.' Ronald Reagan used to read Tom Clancy novels for inspiration before challenging summits with his Russian counterparts.

From 'The Hunt for Red October' to 'Macbeth' former US presidents are a well-read bunch. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have released reading lists on social media, while many others have discussed their favorite works in past interviews.

If you want to read like a president, scroll on:

Donald Trump: 'All Quiet on the Western Front' by Erich Maria Remarque

President Donald Trump is not an avid reader, by his own admission. Apart from recommending partisan books praising him or attacking Hillary Clinton,, Trump hasn't publicly discussed or recommended a reading list like past presidents have.

However, in a 2016 interview with Michael Wolff, Trump did call "All Quiet on the Western Front," written by a German World War I veteran, "one of the greatest books of all time."

The book describes the extreme physical and mental toll war takes on soldiers, and how difficult it is to reintegrate back into civilian life.

Note: The White House did not return a request for comment when asked for Trump's book recommendations.

Barack Obama: 'Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City' by Matthew Desmond

In 'Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,' Harvard sociologist Matthew Desmond follows eight Milwaukee families on the brink of poverty, and sheds light on the profound challenges impoverished families face.

Obama released a list of his 12 favorite books from 2017 if you want more of the 44th president's recommendations.

George W. Bush: 'The Case For Democracy: The Power Of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny And Terror' by Natan Sharansky

George W. Bush, the 43rd President, was so enamored with the Soviet-born, Israeli author Natan Sharansky's 'Case for Democracy' that he awarded Sharansky a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006

Sharansky wrote the book after being jailed 9 years for speaking out against the Soviet regime. In his book, he makes the case that only democracies can safeguard the well-being of citizens. Sharansky held a number of posts in the Israeli government, including a stint as Deputy Prime Minister.

The director of Netflix's latest blockbuster movie, 'Mute,' breaks down 4 memorable scenes in the sci-fi thriller

Mute 3 Keith Bernstein Netflix

Duncan Jones has wowed us his whole career with movies like “Moon,” “Source Code,” and “Warcraft,” but his latest is his most ambitious work yet — which might explain why it took over a decade to get made.

“Mute” is a futuristic who-done-it set in Berlin starring Alexander Skarsgård as a mute bartender named Leo. In the film, Leo must navigate the shady underworld of the city, filled with unique characters like two ex-pats Cactus (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), to track down his missing girlfriend.

With the backing of Netflix (which released the movie on Friday), this movie that is part “Blade Runner,” part David Fincher fever dream, has been let out to the masses.

And if you’ve seen it, you probably want more insight on what you’ve experienced.

Here Jones chatted with Business Insider about three standout scenes from the movie, and one that’s his favorite.

Warning: Spoilers coming if you haven’t seen “Mute” yet:

The Sam Bell clones cameo

Sam Bell is the beloved main character of Jones’ debut feature “Moon,” which follows an astronaut, played by Sam Rockwell, at the end of his three-year stint working on the Moon who realizes he’s a clone. At the end of the movie we see him get off the Moon and head back to Earth (there’s a lot more to this movie, you should really see it if you haven’t yet).

Jones always planned to continue telling the Sam Bell story in future films, and in “Mute” he does that by having the story take place when Bell has landed back on Earth, and is testifying about the misuse of clones by the company that does work on the Moon.

In a scene where Leo walks into a coffeehouse, the TV screen behind him shows a live look-in on the Bell testimony, which is interrupted by other Sam Bells who are in the courtroom.

And if you look close enough, you can catch “free the Sams” graffiti throughout the movie in shots of the streets of Berlin.

“I wanted to have some way of not exactly wrapping up ‘Moon’ in this film but at least giving those who are curious about what happened to Sam an answer to that in this film,” Jones said. “But at the same time, ‘Mute’ is its own story and I wanted to see if there was a way that I can do that and at the same time not be too distracting from the film that we're trying to make.”

Jones had Rockwell come in for a day of shooting. Rockwell had numerous wardrobe changes, including beards and wigs put on him to play the Sam Bell clones.

Jones said he hopes to close out the Sam Bell storyline in a third film.

“For the third film you’ll see Sam again probably in the same way you saw him in ‘Mute’ — him in the universe of the story being told,” he said. “That’s what I’m thinking, but it’s flexible.”

Cactus confronts Duck

In a movie that has a lot of disturbing moments, one of the most chilling is a scene an hour into the movie when Cactus goes to Duck’s office. There he notices Duck’s been secretly videotaping his female teen patients, which enrages Cactus, since he's the father of a little girl, and leads to the two war buddies (which Jones based on the friendship between “Trapper” John McIntyre and “Hawkeye” Pierce in Robert Altman’s “M*A*S*H”) having a heated encounter.

The scene highlights how dark Rudd and Theroux got in their performances for this movie, which Jones said came from shooting the movie chronologically as much as possible.

“Paul and Justin were able to get some of the fun friendly scenes done earlier, so there was already a rhythm before we allowed them to sort of play with ‘How do I get furious with someone that I’m normally cool with?’” Jones said.

Jones said he also allowed both actors to improvise as much as they wanted on the movie, often doing a few takes of he and Michael Robert Johnson’s screenplay and then letting them do some takes on their own.

The director said the biggest challenge with this scene was getting Rudd to a point where he begins to slap around and shove Theroux.

“I think I did push Paul a little bit to be more physical,” Jones said. “Between the three of us we agreed we’d work our way up to really whacking Justin, but Paul needed to be the psychopath in that moment. We had dropped hints over the course of the film, he needed to be the violent guy at this moment.”

Cactus’ final moments

You get the feeling in "Mute" that sooner or later the bad guys are going to get some kind of gruesome end, and Jones doesn’t disappoint with Cactus.

Leo’s journey to find his love Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh) leads him to Cactus’ basement at the end of the movie, where he learn her fate. Leo then avenges her by putting Cactus’ trusty knife through his throat.

The graphic death was how Jones always saw Cactus going out, but he also wanted to give the buildup another darkly twisted feel like the Cactus/Duck confrontation. So he wrote Cactus taunting Leo and cracking jokes before his death.

“I wanted a weird energy and for me it comes out of that excitement Cactus gets out of confrontation,” Jones said. “He carries that in this scene, he doesn’t want this to be the situation, he didn’t want Leo to show up, but he comes down those stairs and he knows he’s going to have this confrontation and Cactus gets off on that.”

And playing off the Trapper/Hawkeye vibe, he also wanted Cactus to have a swagger like he’s going to survive the encounter with Leo.

“He thinks he’s going to get out of it,” Jones said. “He’s always thought he and Duck are smarter than anyone else around them.”

19 stocks that rake in the biggest returns when interest rates are rising, according to Bank of America

As interest rates rise, investors everywhere are wondering what it means for stocks.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch has identified S&P 500 stocks that are best helped by a higher nominal 10-year yield, based on how the stocks have historically responded to changes in rates.

The screening is "based on a regression of stocks' monthly excess returns vs. monthly changes in the nominal 10yr yield from 1972-12/2017," Savita Subramanian, BAML's head of US equity and quant strategy, said in a recent note.

On Wednesday, the yield on the 10-year note rose to a four-year high as the Federal Reserve sent more signals of its willingness to continue raising interest rates. Minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting showed an upbeat view of the economy that would warrant further rate hikes.

Nineteen stocks from the list are ranked in ascending order of their nominal interest rate beta, or how responsive their prices are to changes in the 10-year yield; the higher the beta, the more sensitive a stock historically has been:
