14 hilarious pictures of what people bought online versus what they received

Shopping is great, and online shopping is even better. But sometimes things go awry when people order products online without doing their research.

From a miniature desk chair to a disproportionate, six-foot teddy bear, keep scrolling to see 14 cringe-worthy times online shopping went wrong.

When Becky Latham ordered this teal jacket from Urban Outfitters, she expected it to be oversized but not to this extent.

In an earlier post, INSIDER's Lucy Yang explained why Latham's coat looked so jarring:

"It's so enormous that the picture almost looks Photoshopped at first glance — like someone had edited her head to appear much smaller than it actually is. Or, perhaps, pumped the jacket full of air. It's also possible that she ordered a larger size."

This dinosaur pillow from Amazon might have been a misprint.

In November, Twitter users claimed that instead of a dinosaur-shaped pillow, they were sent a pillowcase that showed a child sleeping on a dinosaur-shaped pillow.

INSIDER's Jacob Shamsian reported that this alleged misprint likely happened as a result of an error in Amazon's algorithm

Bethany McNamara, a 5-foot-2 hairdresser, tweeted that she was sent a pair of high-waisted pants that were the entire length of her body.

The pants, which she ordered from PrettyLittleThing in October, looked fine on the model, but they were way too long on McNamara.

boeing 767

  • Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the US, Khalid bin Salman al-Saud, rents a private Boeing 767 jet for $30,000 an hour
  • The 1,066-square-foot jet has over 60 seats and can hold eight tons of luggage.
  • Passengers are served by at least five attendants per flight.

Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the US, Khalid bin Salman al-Saud, has a lavish lifestyle. Al-Saud is part of Saudi Arabia's royal family, as his father is King Salman and his older brother is Crown Prince Mohammad.

Al-Saud, who's 28 years old, served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Saudi Air Force before becoming the country's US ambassador in 2017. Since then, he's met with President Donald Trump, spent time in a $12 million mansion he purchased as a Georgetown student, and chartered a private Boeing 767 jet that costs $30,000 per hour, according to the Daily Mail.

The 1,066-square-foot jet is suited for royalty. It has dozens of seats, a master bedroom, an office, and plenty of TVs.

Here's a look inside:

7 under-the-radar destinations to visit instead of the wonders of the world

Taj Mahal Humayun Tomb Side by Side

If you've ever Googled photos of the seven wonders of the world, you'll find serene and majestic shots — especially if you happen to find one where the sun is setting or rising.

However, if you've ever actually visited one, you know that there are often hordes of tourists and pure pandemonium.

That's why we found alternatives to the "New Seven Wonders of the World." These seven sites were chosen thanks to a contest put on by the New 7 Wonders Foundation in 2007 and include places like the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu, and the Colosseum.

While we think the wonders are still worth visiting, here are some other monuments to visit, sans crowds, while you're in the country.

Instead of Christ the Redeemer, visit the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral.

Rio is a little hedonistic paradise so while you may want to give Christ a visit (plus the views on Corcovada are spectacular) you can atone more privately at the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. The cathedral was designed by Edgar Fonseca in a modern style inspired by the style of Mayan pyramids. The result is a large, futuristic structure whose tilting walls feature beautiful stained-glass windows.

Located not too far from the church is the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa, where you can catch the tram across Arcos de Lapa (the aqueducts) and up the hilly and winding roads to the Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas for some amazing views. Grab some pao de queijo (cheesy bread) and açaí at Cultivar, which some claim to be the best spot in all of Rio.

Instead of Chichen Itza, visit Uxmal.

Speaking of Mayan Pyramids, Chichen Itza is probably the most well known and most visited one in the world. The Yucatan Peninsula is dotted with important Mayan sites, though, and we think Uxmal is worth a visit.

Occupied by Mayans starting around A.D. 700 at least 3,000 years ago, Uxmal contains the remains of a community some 25,000 strong and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. While Chichen Itzá is impressive in its size, and many buildings are indeed breathtaking, the stonework on Uxmal's facade is so much more intricate.

When arriving at the site, the pyramids seem to jut out from the trees surrounding them, creating a kind of indescribable mystical atmosphere not found in the famous (and overcrowded) Chichen Itzá. And the best part? You can actually climb the Great Pyramid for a breathtaking view.

Instead of the Badaling section of the Great Wall of China, visit the Jinshanling section.

Considering that the Great Wall of China is 13,170 miles long, you'd think there would be multiple places tourists would visit to explore this man-made wonder. Well, a majority of Great Wall tourists flock to the Badaling section, which is by far the most developed and convenient.  So while we may not have an alternative to the Great Wall, we suggest moseying down to the Jinshanling section, located 125 km northeast of Beijing. It's just as restored, but its distance from the city makes it less popular among tourists.

Surrounded by breathtaking mountains, it is considered as the best starting point for the six-mile  trek to Simatai West. The first part of this trek is in fairly good shape, but it deteriorates quickly, becoming more treacherous, with points that have loose stones and bricks.

If you have a small group, hiring a taxi is a good option. This will allow you to easily see different parts of the wall. Hotels can also arrange an English-speaking private car. You should be warned that the Chinese government occasionally blocks off entire sections or fines visitors for unauthorized trespassing.

The 50 best video games of all time, according to critics

$

There are dozens of ways you could put together a list of the best video games ever made. You could look to classics, like "Super Mario Bros." here.

You could look at impact on the medium, or highest sales. You could write down your personal favorites on pieces of paper, then throw them into the air. Where the pieces land? That's your list!

But what we've got here is something slightly more scientific. Reviews aggregation site Metacritic compiles all reviews of games, then it averages those scores into an overall average. What you'll find below is the top 50 highest-rated games of all time, based on the averages obtained by Metacritic. We made one small change: Since there are a handful of duplicates on the list (multiple versions of the same game, released on multiple platforms), we've just taken the highest-ranked version of the game to make room for a handful of games that wouldn't have otherwise made the list.

Without further ado, these are the 50 best video games of all time:

IT jobs and other tech roles are supposed to be in-demand and well-compensated.

• But, when it comes to the realms of tech, IT, and software, senior gigs are still the most lucrative.

• That's according to the salary data that LinkedIn put together in order to figure out which tech jobs earn the most money.

IT jobs require a special set of skills. So it's not surprising that IT, software, and other tech gigs have a reputation for being highly compensated.

But which IT and software roles snag the highest pay?

In order to find out, LinkedIn provided Business Insider with data collected through the site's salary tool, which asks verified members to submit their salary and collects data on wages.

The jobs all hail from the IT and software industries. C-suite titles were cut from the search. LinkedIn calculated median base salaries, as well as median total salaries, which included additional compensation like annual bonuses, sign-on bonuses, stock options, and commission.

While tech, software, and IT jobs tend to accrue high salaries, LinkedIn's findings indicate that the biggest pay days come with senior positions.

These 15 positions all make a median base salary of at least $100,000 a year. Bear in mind that the data is self-reported by users, so might be subject to some variation.

Here are the highest-paying jobs in software and IT:

I have sex every day — here are 8 reasons why you should give it shot

$
0
0

IMG_7098.JPG

Let's be honest, sex is generally pretty great. At least personally, I've always thought that sex is great and I've loved experiencing it with different people. But I've never gotten serious enough with someone to live together and have the option of having sex every day until now.

My boyfriend and I recently started living together and decided to really take advantage of it by having sex every single day. Of course, there are days when we're just too tired or one of us isn't feeling great and we'll take a rain check. But for the most part we've gotten used to having daily sex.

Obviously, you should do what's right or you and your body and relationship, but since I've started having daily sex, not only has my sex life never been better, I've also never been happier. Allow me to explain why.

Sex feels fantastic and it puts me in a good mood.

Let's start with the obvious, sex feels good. Aside from our biological need to have sex to pass on our genes, we have sex because it makes us feel good. On a neurological level, having sex releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for the feelings of pleasure you get from eating a piece of chocolate, doing certain drugs, or well, having sex. It makes sense then that if sex feels good we want to do it as much as possible and feel good all the time, which is why having daily sex is ideal for me.

I have the pleasure (pun intended) of having sex every single day, and getting that dopamine release all the time and that alone is incredible. I can be having a miserable day but I always know that at the end of it, I get to go home, have sex, and feel amazing. Bad day instantly erased.

Not only does sex feel good on a physical and neurological level, it also makes me feel good about myself. The sex itself puts me in a good mood, but knowing that I'm in a happy, committed relationship that works well enough to support a great sex life makes me feel even better.

Before, when I had sex and showed up to work the next day, my coworkers would always ask why I looked so happy, but now I'm so happy all the time that they no longer ask because happy and confident is my base state.

Having sex consistently decreases pressure to always be mind-blowing in bed.

When you're not having sex consistently, it's easy to build it up and expect the next time to be absolutely mind-blowing. That can be a lot of pressure to place on you and your partner an easy way to leave you disappointed when the great-but-not-spectacular sex fails to make you see fireworks.

By having sex daily, I've circumvented the idea that every time I have sex it needs to make me feel like I died and went to heaven. Don't get me wrong, my boyfriend and I have great sex, but I no longer go into it feeling like it has to be life-changing every time. I don't feel pressured to put on a show and neither does my boyfriend instead of bringing out all these crazy moves and going at it for an inhuman amount of time, we just focus on doing what makes us feel good and that's really what matters.

Although there are times when we definitely bring out the big guns and really get into it, we understand that not every night has to be that way and we're totally fine with it. Even on the rare nights that one of us isn't really feeling it or it's just not going too great, we can easily shrug it off and not feel embarrassed, after all, there's always tomorrow.

It also allows me to try new things.

Having sex every day has opened up my sex life to many possibilities. Of course, you can absolutely try new things in the bedroom even when you're not having sex on the daily, but when you have consistent sex, you're devoting a lot more time to the act, and in turn have a lot more time to try new things than if you were only having sex a couple of times a week.

If my boyfriend and I think of something new we want to try, we can try it that night (or morning) and get instant results on whether it works for us or not and either incorporate it into our routine or skip it next time. Because we know we can always have satisfying sex within 24 hours or less, we don't lose anything by trying something new. Additionally, having sex every day means some moves can get old fast so constantly trying new things is absolutely welcome.

I tried to survive on a diet of only vegan fast food for a week — and it was impossible

vegan fast food 2

  • A study by market-research firm GlobalData found that the number of people who choose to eat vegan in America has grown from 1% to 6% since 2014
  • Though many restaurants and fast-casual spots have updated their menus to include more vegan options, fast food is lagging behind.
  • I tried to survive on only the vegan options at popular fast-food chains, and I found it was nearly impossible to do at most of them.

Being vegan in New York City is hardly a challenge. Most restaurants now have vegan-friendly options on their menus, and affordable vegan restaurants are popping up all over the five boroughs. In the three years I've been vegan, I've found that most restaurants and grocery stores have a lot of options readily available — except for fast food.

Taco Bell and White Castle seem to be the only fast-food chains actually working on meeting the growing demand for food that's free from animal products. According to a study by market-research firm GlobalData, the number of Americans who choose to follow a vegan diet has increased from 1% to 6% since 2014.

The population of vegans, vegetarians, and people who are simply trying to eat less meat is growing rapidly, and most fast-food chains are doing little to nothing to make a vegan lifestyle more accessible.

To see which fast-food chains are best prepared to keep up with the growing demand for vegan food, I tried to eat only vegan fast food for five days. My rules were simple: eat only at fast-food chains, and eat three meals a day.

Here's what happened:

SEE ALSO: 13 popular fast-food menu items that are surprisingly perfect for vegans

I kicked off the week with Fruit & Maple Oatmeal from McDonald's, prepared without cream.

This is the only vegan-friendly breakfast option at McDonald's, and I made it about three bites into the oatmeal before tossing it out. McDonald's oatmeal has nearly twice as much sugar as a Hershey bar and more than 300 calories per serving. It was sickeningly sweet and packed with sugar — I couldn't stomach it that early in the morning.

For lunch I wanted something lighter, so I headed to Wendy's for a salad. I ordered the Garden Side Salad with no croutons, no cheese, and no dressing. I also ordered a side of apple slices.

The salad was plain and disappointing, and it had to be made twice because the first time it still had cheese on top. Wendy's has tested a black bean burger, but unfortunately, it isn't available anywhere in the Northeast.

I was ravenous by dinner, so I went out of my way to get Taco Bell — a supposed fast-food haven for vegans. I ordered a Seven Layer Burrito with no sour cream or cheese.

Taco Bell has the most vegan options on its menu out of all the popular fast-food chains. It definitely was the most filling thing I ate all day.

After day one, I realized that eating the right amount of nutrients would be nearly impossible unless I wanted to snack on french fries all day. It was an unhealthy start to the week, and I was still hungry at the end of the day.

Day 1 Total:

Calories: 687

Fat: 15.5g

Sodium: 1146mg

Sugar: 36g

Protein: 17g

• But, in the United States, that doesn't hold true for every occupation.

• Census data indicates that in certain jobs, women actually earn more than men on average.

Gender pay gap statistics tend to focus on situations where women are paid less than men for the same work.

And it's true that, in most locations and in the majority of jobs, women earn less money than their male counterparts.

But Business Insider analyzed data from the US Census Bureau's 2016 American Community Survey and found that women actually out-earn men in a handful of occupations.

The survey focused on median earnings for both male and female full-time, year-round workers over the age of 16. Women earn more than men in a number of jobs, ranging from blue collar to white collar.

The 15 best Starbucks secret menu Frappuccinos and how to order them

frappuccino

  • Starbucks has loads of secret menu items, including special Frappuccino flavors.
  • The clear winner was the Butterbeer Frappuccino, due to its delicious use of caramel drizzle.
  • The Red Velvet Frappuccino was also near the top, and can easily be made by adding some raspberry syrup and java chips to a mocha Frappuccino.

Thanks to my dad's coffee addiction, my family usually makes at least three stops at Starbucks every day. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a taste for coffee, so I generally get a cream Frappuccino or a Frappucino with enough sugar to mask the taste of coffee. There aren't that many Frappuccinos on the menu, so that gets boring fast. Over the years, I've tried many of the Starbucks secret menu Frappuccinos and unearthed some of the all-time best flavors. Lucky for you, I'm here to let you all in on my best-kept secrets.

#SpoonTip: These Frappuccinos will likely be more expensive since they all require extra syrups.

15. Shamrock Frappuccino

Although this Starbucks secret menu Frappuccino is wonderfully minty, if you're going to be celebrating St. Patrick's Day you may as well splurge on a McDonald's Shamrock Shake. To order the Shamrock Frappuccino, ask for a tall Vanilla Bean Frappuccino with 1.5 pumps of peppermint syrup, 1/2 pump classic syrup, and 2 scoops of matcha powder for that signature green color.

14. Berry Swirl Frappuccino

There's nothing more refreshing in the summer than some fresh berries. To make this Berry Swirl Frappuccino, ask for a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino made with coconut milk with added blueberries and blackberries. If you're looking for some more excitement, add java chips as well.

13. Candy Cane Frappuccino

Although the peppermint flavor may not be clear from the look of the drink, the flavor comes through with a perfect strength. To make the Candy Cane Frappuccino, order a tall Vanilla Bean Frappuccino and ask for a pump of peppermint syrup.

11 of the strangest things that have been found inside people's bodies

  • Doctors have seen lots of patients with foreign objects insider their bodies.
  • A woman had gotten a fish bone stuck in her throat and it somehow made its way into her thyroid gland.
  • An elderly woman complained of a mole that kept changing, and her dermatologist discovered that it was actually a tick lodged under her skin.

Doctors and other medical professionals see some of the craziest things, but at the top of the list has to be the bizarre foreign objects they find in people's bodies.

Maybe there's a better place to hide the jewelry?

A well-dressed, well-groomed, middle-aged woman came into the ER with stomach pains, recalls Quora contributor, Ali Sadek, MS, MA, MD, PhD. While the physical exam didn't reveal anything, an abdominal x-ray revealed a lot: The woman's stomach and upper small bowel were littered with objects resembling jewelry. That's because they were jewelry. The woman kept swallowing her jewelry to keep her husband from giving the pieces to his mistress. Don't miss these obscure facts you never knew about the body.

He got his money back

Doctors published an article in the "International Journal of Emergency Medicine" about a four-year-old boy who accidentally swallowed a large coin — a New Taiwan Dollar. An x-ray confirmed the boy had swallowed the coin. Hoping to avoid surgery, the doctors prescribed laxatives and kept an eye on the progress of the coin; 28 days later, the boy passed the dollar without incident.

Yes, you can be too thorough with tooth brushing

Though it seems impossible, an article recently published in the "Journal of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad" reports the story of a man who swallowed a toothbrush. The authors note that this is "a rare foreign body to be ingested accidentally." No kidding. The man was 55 years old and "living a normal life," though he waited for two weeks after swallowing the toothbrush before he showed up at the hospital with stomach pain. In this case, surgeons removed the toothbrush. There's no mention of how white the patient's teeth were.

Here are some strange facts about the human body you never knew.

5 of the most dangerous spy plane missions in US history

$
0

1135px SR71_crew

Since the United States entered World War II, the Department of Defense has engaged in the systematic surveillance of other nations by air to glean valuable intelligence on weapons capabilities and military movements.

These missions are quite dangerous and often ended in disaster, but the risks endured by these aircrews aboard the Pentagon’s beloved spy planes are often overlooked due to the sensitive nature of their assignments.

Here are five instances from the past that illustrate why these pilots were not flying the friendly skies:

1. A tense shoot-down over the Baltic Sea

As the Iron Curtain descended across Europe, the United States was desperately trying to gather intelligence on Soviet activities across the continent.

On April 8th, 1950, a PB4Y-2 Privateer — a modified B-24 Liberator fitted with electronic gear for signals intelligence — left West Germany for the Baltic Sea to gather intel on Soviet naval forces and possibly to monitor early naval missile tests.

The aircraft was intercepted by four Soviet La-11 “Fang” fighters over the Baltic Sea off of the coast of Latvia.

According to documentary filmmaker Dirk Pohlmann, the entire sequence of events was pre-planned by the Soviets to attempt to capture the aircraft and crew, or at least shoot the aircraft down if it could not be captured.

The aircraft was shot down over the Baltic; none of the ten crewmembers were recovered.

2. A SIGINT mission goes off-course in Armenia

In September 1958, a modified C-130A was shot down over Armenia during signals gathering mission in support of the Armed Forces Security Agency, the predecessor to the modern-day National Security Agency.

The C-130 had taken off from Turkey, and the flight plan kept the aircraft on the Turkish side of the border with Armenia; however the C-130 strayed across the border and was promptly intercepted by several Soviet MiG-17 Frescos.

Like most Cold War shootdowns over (or near) Soviet-controlled territory, there exists a vacuum of information on what exactly happened.

The Soviets initially claimed that the plane had crashed in Armenia, but later recordsrevealed gun camera footage of a MiG-17 shooting down the C-130, as well as an unearthed 1958 Soviet report detailing the shootdown and recovery operations. None of the 17 crew on board survived.

3. The cold arctic becomes a firestorm in Murmansk

One of the lesser-known Cold War incidents involved an Air Force RB-47 shootdown on a reconnaissance mission off of the northern coast of Russia.

Shortly after reaching the Murmansk area, Soviet fighters were scrambled to intercept the aircraft with fatal results: Four of the six crewmen died, and the two surviving crewmen that survived were fished out of the frigid ocean and interrogated in Moscow before their eventual release in January 1961.

The Soviets maintained that the aircraft violated its airspace; however, Oleg Penkovskiy, a spy for the United States, claimed other otherwise.

“The U.S. aircraft RB-47 shot down on Khrushchev’s order was not flying over Soviet Territory; it was flying over neutral waters.”

When the facts of the shootdown were reported to Khrushchev, he said: “Well done boys, keep them from even flying close.”

Despite the tragic incident, U.S. SIGNIT missions kept flying closer and closer, flying hundreds of near border surveillance flights over the course of the cold war.

When you hear the term "boy band," the first thing that probably comes to mind is a group of men singing together and performing synchronized dance moves. While that is true for groups like New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, there are other groups that choose not to have choreographed moves going back decades.

Additionally, Merriam-Webster defines a group as one that contains two or more people. This means that a duo, like Wham!, could technically be considered a boy band.

For the purposes of this article, we included groups consisting of all-male members (regardless of what genre of music they fall into) that broke through on the pop charts.

Keep reading to find out which boy band topped the Billboard Hot 100 the year you were born.

  • You can find magnesium, a strong antioxidant that destroys 'free radicals' in spinach, almonds, and dark chocolate.
  • Both cilantro and mint have cleansing and soothing properties.
  • Watermelon fights inflammation and helps hydrate the system while probiotic foods, including yogurt, could help remove environmental toxins.

Move over, apple cider vinegar. These tasty foods can help support your immune, digestive, and lymphatic systems to naturally detox your body.

Wind down with this calming drink before bed.

Magnesium, especially when combined with zinc, is the perfect one-two detox combo, according to Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, a naturopath, doctor, author, and medical advisory board member for the Nutritional Magnesium Association. "Magnesium stimulates cell activity so that toxins are released into the bloodstream while zinc acts as a strong antioxidant which helps destroy 'free radicals' in the body and at the same time removing heavy metals," she explains. You can find magnesium in spinach, almonds, and dark chocolate but if you're looking to get a larger dose without eating cups of greens, try dissolving magnesium citrate in water. Bonus: Magnesium's science-backed benefits include calming and relaxation properties.

Add this nut to your next salad.

Nuts provide not only provide a tasty crunch to boring greens but they are also packed with nutrients that can help strengthen your body's own detoxing systems, says Frank Lipman, MD, a functional and integrative medicine specialist, author of How to Be Well, and founder of Be Well. He particularly likes black walnuts. These have a very strong detoxifying effect on the system as they are a natural antifungal and antimicrobial that can kill parasites in your system, he says. Most people take theirs in capsule form but you can also sprinkle them on a salad or use the oil to make a tasty dressing.

Pick this pretty poppy.

Red Clover is a common flower with characteristic bright blooms filling fields in the springtime. But this beauty is also a great detoxifier, Dr. Lipman says. It does double detox duty as a blood cleanser and detoxifier of the liver, he adds. You could munch your way through a meadow, a la Ferdinand the bull, we suppose, or you could buy it in capsule or tea form. In the meantime, pick up one of these powerful plants that can detox your home.

  • U.S. News & World Report published its annual list of the 50 best places to live in America.
  • The South had the most entries on the list, including the No. 1 city, Austin, Texas.
  • Cities were ranked by metrics including desirability, affordability, and quality of life.

U.S. News & World Report released on Tuesday its annual list of the 50 best places to live in America, comprising the metro areas with the perfect combination of affordability, a good job market, and quality of life.

While every geographic region of the US was represented on the list, it's the South that seems to have come out on top for the third year in a row.

The U.S. Census Bureau definition of the South includes 16 states and Washington, DC (check out the specifics here). The region had 20 cities in the top 50 — more than any other — including the city that received the highest marks, Austin, Texas.

But it wasn't just the typical Southern hotspots like Austin, Atlanta, and Nashville that put the South over the edge this year. This year also saw four new Southern cities added to the list: Huntsville, Alabama; Lexington, Kentucky; Asheville, North Carolina; and Fort Myers, Florida.

U.S. News & World Report used five criteria — job market, value, quality of life, desirability, and net migration — to definitively rank these major metro areas. You can read U.S. News' full methodology here.

Read on to see the 20 Southern cities that made the cut this year.

The Army wants more armor in Europe to counter Russia — and a former infantry unit just put its new tanks to the test

The US Army is boosting its presence in Europe, sending troops and tanks to reinforce NATO security and deterrence efforts at a time of increasing tension with Russia.

But the US military is also grappling with a readiness crisis, and to address that problem while reestablishing a presence in Europe, the Army is looking to convert some infantry units to armor. One such unit, the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division, rolled out its new Abrams tanks at the end of March.

The Army announced the conversion in November 2016. The change-over began in summer 2017, and its completion was marked by a ceremony in October 2017.

"The world has continued to change," 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team commander Col. James Dooghan said at the time. "The overmatch the US Army has enjoyed for the last 70 years is closing quickly across all domains of warfare. To keep pace, the Army continues to adapt its ways of thinking, executing, and organizing."

Below, you can see how some 2ABCT troopers put their new Abrams tanks through their paces in Georgia last month:

The brigade's reorganization involved adding three platforms: the Paladin self-propelled howitzer, the Bradley fighting vehicle, and the Abrams tank. Between August and October 2017, Army engineers built a new, 2.8-acre concrete-pad motor park at Fort Stewart to accommodate the new vehicles.

"We will be mounted on incredibly sophisticated combat equipment," Dooghan said at the ceremony. “Lethality is not merely about platforms — it is about capabilities. And it is our well-trained soldiers who are at the root of our lethality.”

Soldiers from Delta Tank Company of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team rolled out their newly acquired M1A1-SA Abrams tanks for gunnery drills at a range at Fort Stewart on March 29.

The unit's 87 M1A1 Abrams tanks come with the situational-awareness configuration, an upgrade to restore older M1A1 tanks to like-new condition and to enhance the tank's armor and add technology to boost crew awareness on the battlefield.

The Trump administration just released new photos of 'the president's border wall' under construction, and it looks a lot like a fence — see for yourself

bollard wall new mexico

Construction crews broke ground Monday for a new "bollard wall" intended to replace roughly 20 miles of vehicle barriers along New Mexico's southern border.

Though the replacement wall doesn't match the stature or complexity of the eight border wall prototypes built in California, Border Patrol agents insisted to reporters on Monday that the bollard wall is the same wall that President Donald Trump famously promised voters throughout his campaign.

"This is the beginning, in this sector, of the president's border wall, yes," Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Hull, of the US Border Patrol's El Paso sector, said at a press briefing.

Trump has run into numerous obstacles in constructing his wall — the most significant being Congress' reluctance to fund it.

Lawmakers in March shot down Trump's request to provide $25 billion for the wall, much to his annoyance. Instead, Congress supplied only $1.6 billion for border security and fencing similar to what already exists along the border.

See what the bollard wall looks like:

A 20-mile stretch along New Mexico’s southern border, near the Santa Teresa port of entry, is currently lined with a short vehicle barrier.

The Customs and Border Protection agency said this particular sector has seen a high number of arrests related to illegal border-crossing and drug smuggling.

In fiscal year 2017, Border Patrol agents arrested 25,193 people for crossing the border illegally. They also seized 34,189 pounds of marijuana and 140 pounds of cocaine.

The real-life love stories behind 10 iconic films

Salma Hayek Alfredo Molina Frida Kahlo Diego Rivera

Many of the best-told love stories feel at once unexpected and achingly familiar, capable of challenging the viewer's assumptions about love and resonating with their lived experiences all at the same time.

For this reason, it's no surprise that many popular movies are based on real love stories, romances that can be supplemented with memorable dialogue and touching moments (like the ever-quotable "if you're a bird I'm a bird") while still managing to keep the roots of its inspiration intact.

These 10 movies were all in some way inspired by – if not exactly true to – real-life romances.

"The Big Sick"

Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon have made headlines for turning their whirlwind romance into an award-winning film. Gordon really was put into a medically induced coma after an unexplainable illness. The couple really did meet when Gordon heckled Nanjiani's stand-up set. Nanjiani's parents really did want him to be in an arranged marriage.

"I'm maybe a bit more private than Kumail so I was definitely like, 'Oh sh-t, if this all goes great, I'm gonna be on a red carpet being like, and yes, I was in a coma!'" Gordon told People. "That's kind of a weird thing."

"The Notebook"

Nicholas Sparks — the author of the book that was later turned into the now-classic movie — was inspired by his wife's grandparents' unusual love story.

"The way his eyes shined when he looked at her, the way he held her hand, the way he got her tea and took care of her," he recalled on his website. "I remember watching them together and thinking to myself that after sixty years of marriage, these two people were treating each other exactly the same as my wife and I were treating each other after 12 hours."

"Walk the Line"

Johnny and June's on-screen romance melted audiences' hearts in the Oscar-winning biopic "Walk the Line." June Carter Cash helped Johnny write "Ring of Fire" and "Jackson," and Johnny proposed to June on-stage in front of 7,000 strangers in Ontario – as is depicted in one of the more memorable scenes in the film.

king felipe queen letizia royal family

  • Kate Middleton, Prince William, and the rest of the British royal family are constantly making headlines.
  • What people seem to forget is that there are a couple dozen other monarchies around the globe.
  • From Japan to Norway, here are the monarchies you should be keeping an eye on.

We talk a lot about Queen Elizabeth II and her brood — particularly Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle — but they're obviously not the only royal family in the world. In fact, there are a couple dozen other monarchies around the globe. Click through to see some of the many kings, queens, princes, princesses, emperors, emirs, and sultans who (literally) rule the world.

The Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg

Reigning Grand Duke Henri and his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, have five children ranging in age from 25 to 36: Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke, married to Princess Stephanie; Prince Felix, who has two kids with his wife, Princess Claire; Prince Louis, who has two kids with his estranged wife, Tessy Anthony; Princess Alexandra, the only daughter; and Prince Sébastien.

Prince Guillaume, the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, is first in line to accede to the throne, which is currently held by his father, Grand Duke Henri. Prince Guillaume married Stephanie de Lannoy, a Belgian Countess who became Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg, on October 20, 2012.

Prince Felix is the second child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. He and his wife, Princess Claire of Luxembourg have one daughter, Princess Amalia, and one son, Prince Liam.

The Imperial Family of Japan

Japan's imperial family is led by Emperor Akihito, who succeeded to the Chrysanthemum Throne in 1989 and will abdicate in April 2019, and his wife, Empress Michiko. Also in the family are Crown Princess Masako, Crown Prince Naruhito, Princess Mako, Princess Aiko, Princess Kako, Prince Akishino, Prince Hisahito, and Princess Kiko.

Prince Akishino, the second son of Emperor Akihito, has three children with his wife, Princess Kiko: Princess Mako, Princess Kako, and Prince Hisahito.

Princess Mako, the eldest daughter of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, announced her engagement to Kei Komuro on September 3, 2017. Because he is a commoner, the princess would be forced to give up her title to marry Komuro. But in February 2018, the two postponed their marriage until at least 2020, so they can take more time to mature before making such a big commitment.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands

King Willem Alexander, the eldest son of former Queen Beatrix, was crowned the ruler of the Netherlands on April 30, 2013.

King Willem Alexander assumed the throne from his mother, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. On April 30, 2013 — the day of her abdication and his inauguration — he appeared on the balcony of the royal palace to greet the public with his wife, Queen Maxima, and their daughters, Princess Catharina Amalia, Princess Ariane, and Princess Alexia.

8 common foods you're probably cooking wrong

eating pasta

If you eat pasta, there's a good chance you've been making it wrong. Yes, this simple noodle that most of us think only requires boiling water and a strainer is not being cooked the way it was intended. But it's not just pasta we're totally screwing up — there are all sorts of colossal mistakes being made in the kitchen.

The good news is, all it takes is a few easy fixes, and your favorite foods will be chef-approved.

That's why INSIDER asked three chefs to reveal the foods you're probably making wrong and give us some tips on how to get it right.

You're overcooking your pasta.

Bet you didn't know you're supposed to reserve some of the water you boil your pasta in. That's right, one mistake you're making in the kitchen is cooking pasta completely, adding it to the sauce, and then discarding the pasta water, Robert Irvine, ofRobert Irvine's Public House at Tropicana Las Vegas, revealed to INSIDER.

He said pasta should be cooked very al dente and then added to the sauce still very firm.

"Reserve one cup of the pasta water and add to the pasta with the sauce to continue to cook the pasta, and to also keep the sauce at the right consistency. This allows the pasta to bond with the sauce with much better flavor," he explained.

You're adding sugar to your marinara sauce.

When making marinara sauce, some people add sugar because of the acidity of the tomatoes. Chef Steve Martorano, ofMartorano's Italian Restaurant at Harrah's Atlantic City and Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, told INSIDER this is a major cooking foul. Instead, he recommends using a great tomato like a San Marzano and the sugar will be unnecessary.

You're burning your garlic.

Garlic is one of the most used ingredients, partly because it has such amazinghealth benefits and it tastes great. But did you know that garlic should be browned to a light brown color when cooking? Martorano said it should not be cooked until it's black, as it will make the food bitter.
