olsen twins met

  • Traditionally, Friday the 13th is considered a "cursed" date.
  • But it doesn't have to be. There have been plenty of positive events throughout history that have happened on a Friday the 13th.
  • Between beloved celebrities' birthdays to exciting developments in space, here are some of the best things that occurred on this "scary" day.

Friday the 13th has a long history of freaking people out. When this day rolls around, people buy less stuff and travel less frequently. In fact, the global economy is estimated to lose as much $800 million every time a Friday lands on the 13th.

However, it's been proven by the Dutch Center for Insurance Statistics that Friday the 13th is actually statistically safer than other Fridays — there are fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft on these days.

If that didn't convince you, keep scrolling to learn about some positive events took place on a Friday the 13th.

The queens of the '90s, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, were born.

The 31-year-old Olsen twins were born on June 13, 1986.

They famously got their start on "Full House," and went on to create an empire — books, videosperfume, clothing lines, and much more.

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed an executive order preventing gender discrimination in the government.

While Title VII officially prevented discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, and sex for private employers, it wasn't until Executive Order 11375 that discrimination based on gender was illegal for the federal government and federal contractors.

President Johnson signed the order, which was officially titled Amending Executive Order No. 11246, Relating to Equal Employment Opportunity, on October 13, 1967.

The famous Hollywood sign was dedicated.

The Hollywood sign is an iconic piece of California culture. But when it was officially dedicated on July 13, 1923, it wasn't even supposed to last for more than two years.

Originally, the sign was installed to promote a new subdivision in the Hollywood Hills.

When you're a kid, everything is scary. You don't understand much about the world yet, so even the most mundane activities like flushing the toilet can be kind of horrifying.

Movies certainly don't help. They'll have you believe that things like demonic possession and alien abductions will be really prominent parts of your life, which is traumatizing.

We rounded up some of the things that Reddit users said they feared as children, most of which they've grown out of. Of course, these are just for fun as we can't independently identify them.

"I was irrationally afraid of aliens."

"I was irrationally afraid of aliens. They still give me the willies, but I can watch some alien movies. It's more the grey skinny aliens with the huge eyes that scare me still. The opening sequence for 'Unsolved Mysteries' scared me so badly because it had aliens in it. My parents LOVED that show, so I got tortured with it once a week." - Redditor WombatBeans

One person was terrified of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."

"'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. F--- them and their clippy-cloppy feet, and f--- the troll that guards the bridge." - Redditor streamstroller

Some were afraid of flushing the toilet.

"I somehow got it in my head that if I flushed the toilet, Ursula would creep out and kill me and my family." - Redditor haiyouguize

wet hot american summer series Netflix final

  • Some of the highest-paying summer jobs are ideal for college students since they don't require a college degree.
  • To find these high-paying summer jobs for college students, FlexJobs scoured its database of part-time, flexible, and remote job listings.
  • Each of these jobs could pay double the federal minimum wage.

The summer vacation, while sometimes reserved for summer lovin' and fun in the sun, is also a prime time to earn some extra cash and learn valuable lessons about hard work and responsibility.

To find some of the highest-paying summer jobs college students can do, Business Insider asked FlexJobs, an online service specializing in telecommuting and remote work, to scour its site for some of the best-paying summer and seasonal job listings.

"Pinpointing these types of high-paying, flexible summer jobs does require extra effort for job seekers, which is one of the reasons FlexJobs exists — to help cut down on the time and effort it takes to uncover these flexible positions," says Brie Reynolds, senior career specialist at FlexJobs. "But the great news is that, as these jobs show, it's possible to have a seasonal summer job that pays well and doesn't require a college degree."

The following jobs offer flexible work options with either part-time schedules and flexible hours, employee or freelance work, or remote or telecommuting options. None of them require a college degree, though many do require some previous experience, and each potentially pays double the federal minimum wage:

Marvel just released a behind-the-scenes video for 'Avengers: Infinity War' — here are 5 things only eagle-eye fans will notice

If you can't wait until the month's end for "Avengers: Infinity War," Marvel just released a big behind-the-scenes look at the movie.

It teases a few moments we haven't seen in trailers, shots of characters in and out of costume on set, and then there's Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth bro'ing out. But unless you're a big fan, or you're pausing every few seconds while watching like us, you probably missed a few glorious nerdy moments in the two-minute video.

If you haven't watched, watch the video here first. Then see some of the smaller details you may have missed the first time around.

Tom Holland wasn't always wearing a Spider-Man suit on set.

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it-moment, you'll notice "Spider-Man: Homecoming" star Tom Holland is wearing one of those notoriously funny-looking motion capture suits to sub in for his new high-tech Spidey suit.

Holland wasn't alone. Josh Brolin also had to wear one on set to film villain Thanos.

Benedict Cumberbatch isn't doing all of those stunts on his own.

Cumberbatch may be able to fly on his own, but for the bigger stunts, he has a stunt double, Martin De Boar. If you look closely in the background, you can see him!

That's not your cape, Iron Man!

There's clearly a lot of fun on set as Robert Downey, Jr. is seen wearing Doctor Strange's Cloak of Levitation.

Will Tony Stark actually try to wear Strange's cloak? It doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities for the billionaire.

ClassPass is so much cheaper than a gym membership — and it will motivate you to work out more too

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships so we may get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

classpass thumb(1)

  • Participation in fitness studio group classes is on the rise because they add rigor, fun, and variety to your exercise routine, but they're usually pretty expensive.
  • ClassPass is a monthly service that lets you join the fitness studio trend for $15 or less per class, which is half the traditional cost.
  • By letting you "shop around" hundreds of fitness studios in your area, ClassPass lets you discover your new favorite way to sweat.

We all know that exercising regularly offers countless physical and mental benefits, but that doesn't make it any easier to do. Over the years, I've discovered that I need someone else to push me when I'm working out. As much as I love to think of myself as a person who is very strong and motivated all the time, the reality is that when I workout at home or by myself at the gym, it's tempting and easy to give myself a break I don't actually need or just stop the workout early. Sometimes I don't even make it onto a mat or machine at all.

I grew up swimming and playing basketball in my hometown's youth leagues, and in college my favorite things to do at the gym included the cardio kickboxing and core workout group classes, so it occurred to me that I didn't hate exercising, period. What I did dread was being bored out of my mind as I went through the same uninspired and unchallenging movements, without anyone by my side to keep me going.

If you're in a similar fitness rut, begging for the variety and motivation missing from at-home workouts or exercising at large fitness clubs, you're not alone.

Participation at smaller fitness studios that offer more unique activities like spin, barre, and boxing is on the rise precisely because people like you and me are looking for change. These classes are led by trained professionals who will push you to no end, often with smiles on their faces. Sure, in the moment you'll hate the teachers for being so chipper, but you'll ultimately be grateful for the amount of coaching and motivation that's difficult to muster up on your own. Another benefit is the small group setting, which reminds you that you're not alone in your exercise endeavors. You might even make some friends, having bonded over these sweat-inducing, heart-pumping workouts.

Despite the many clear advantages of boutique fitness studios, perhaps the greatest barrier to join is the steep cost of classes. Depending on the location and type, they can often put you back $20 to $30 per one-hour session. If you wanted to take these classes regularly, you'd better be ready to pay up.

That's why the introduction of ClassPass four years ago breathed new life into the fitness studio world, opening up fun and challenging fitness classes to a much larger group of participants who previously couldn't afford to buy into them. With ClassPass, you get to "shop" around and take classes across a variety of activities, for a much cheaper price. It's flexible, affordable, and trust me, much more interesting than hopping on the treadmill.

If you want to learn more about how ClassPass works and how it will shake up your fitness routine, keep reading.

The fitness studio world is your oyster once you sign up for ClassPass.

Enter your zip code here to see the studios available around you. You can use ClassPass in major cities nationwide. In the New York City area, there are more than a thousand eligible fitness studios, and hundreds in the near vicinity of the Business Insider office alone. You can sort by specific activities if you already know what you're looking for, or just see what's out there that will pique your interest.

Activities include: Cycling, Pilates, Dance, Boxing, Running, Yoga, Barre, Strength Training, Martial Arts, and Rowing. I've never tried many of these activities, and chances are you haven't either.

With ClassPass, you'll be exposed to new opportunities you might not have encountered or seriously considered otherwise. Because studios specialize in these activities, you know you'll be getting effective training and you won't just playing around.

Once you've determined that your area has classes that interest you, choose a plan that fits your unique needs and preferences.

Pricing differs based on location and how many classes you want to take per month. Depending on your city, the cost of three classes, for example, can range from $30 to $45 per month.

At first glance, the 10-class deal is obviously the most worth it, with each class coming out to $13, but also take into consideration how likely you'll actually go to all 10 classes. Be realistic about factors like how busy your own schedule is or whether these classes are just a supplement to an existing fitness regime. In the end, $15 is still a better deal than paying full price at the studio.

Once you're signed up, your cycle will start immediately and you can start adding classes to your roster.

Some studios will reserve certain classes for their own members, but you'll be able to access the full schedules for the majority of studios. Spots and classes are shown as they become available, so always refresh the search results page and reserve your spot quickly if you see something you like.

You won't be able to drop into classes without a reservation. However, with the mobile app, you can still make a reservation up to five minutes before the class starts, for those days when you get out of work early or just need a spontaneous fitness pick-me-up.

Kobe Shaq Lakers

The 2002 Lakers capped off one of the great runs in NBA history.

Those early aughts Lakers teams were built around one of the most dominant centers ever, the second-greatest shooting guard of all time, and led by the most decorated head coach in league history. From 2000 to 2002, the Lakers won back-to-back-to-back NBA titles, and they remain the last team to pull off that vaunted feat.

We decided to take a look at what became of the key figures from that legendary team.

The statistics below are courtesy of Basketball-Reference

Shaquille O'Neal was THE star of the Lakers dynasty, a former league MVP who won the Finals MVP award for each of the Lakers titles, in addition to being a larger-than-life personality off the court.

Shaq would later rather famously have a falling out with Kobe and the Lakers organization, resulting in his getting traded to the Miami Heat in 2004. He won another title with the Heat in 2006 and kept playing in the league for various teams until 2011. He is currently an in-studio analyst for TNT alongside Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson, and makes more money in endorsements and business deals than he ever did as a player.

Read more: Shaquille O'Neal makes more money now off of endorsements and advertising than he did during his Hall of Fame NBA career

Kobe Bryant was only 23-years-old at the time, but he was already an established All-NBA caliber player and one of the faces of the league by 2002. In fact, he became the youngest player in NBA history to win three titles.

Photos of Israel's only women's prison show the agonizing reality of life behind bars in a country where only 1% of inmates are female

Women's prison_Tomer_Ifrah 015

  • There is only one women's prison in Israel — Neve Tirza.
  • Just over 200 inmates call the prison home, and many of them languish in overcrowded cells and receive little care from guards.
  • Jews, Muslims, and Christians share cells together, as do first-time offenders and veteran inmates.

There are more than 20,000 prisoners and detainees in Israel.

Just 1% of them are women, and they're all housed at a single prison — Neve Tirza.

Located in the central Israeli town of Ramla, about 15 miles southeast of Tel Aviv, Neve Tirza is home for just over 200 female inmates. Opened in 1968, Neve Tirza is the only women's prison in Israel, and Jews, Muslims, and Christians live alongside each other in its tight, overcrowded cells.

Israel photographer Tomer Ifrah made several visits to Neve Tirza in 2013 and documented the isolation and claustrophobia shared by many of the inmates there. His images put human faces on a facility that had previously been accused of inhumane treatment of its prisoners, including physical abuse and a lack of proper medical care.

He also discovered that female prisoners in Israel face a unique stigma when they try to re-enter society, leading many of them to wind up back in prison. You can check out more of Ifrah's work at his website and his Instagram account.

Keep reading to take a look inside Neve Tirza.

  • There are 17 people in the British royal line of succession following Queen Elizabeth.
  • Despite being the second-oldest child of the queen, Princess Anne is 13th in the line of succession because of a now-defunct law about women inheriting the crown.
  • Prince Harry is sixth in line for the throne, behind his father, his brother, and his three nieces and nephews.

1. Prince Charles

Despite rumors that the line of succession would skip Prince Charles — he is the least popular royal after all — he’ll still be next in line for the throne as Queen Elizabeth's oldest son. Already 69 years old, he will be the oldest person in British history to be crowned.

2. Prince William

Next comes Prince Charles’ son, Prince William — the firstborn of the queen’s firstborn. Given the love the public already has for William and his wife, Kate Middleton, he’s sure to keep that popularity as king. Learn more why William will never be king before his dad.

3. Prince George

He might only be four years old, but Prince George — firstborn child of Prince William — already has a massive responsibility ahead of him. After his father, the Prince of Cambridge will be taking over the British crown. Based on these photos of an adorable pep talk from his dad, the future king might already be preparing.

The 7 worst breakfast foods for weight loss

waitresses table eating breakfast

  • If you're trying to lose weight, there are certain breakfast foods you should steer clear of.
  • Eating sugary cereal in the morning can mess with your blood sugar and lead to you overeating later in the day.
  • Waffles might be a favorite for some people, but the meal can actually qualify as a dessert depending on your toppings.

After a long night of fasting, your body is begging for nutrition in the morning. Without the proper fuel, you’re left with little energy, an offset mood, wacky cravings and potentially a wider waistline. Doesn’t sound too appealing, does it?

Some classic morning meals are obvious diet offenders — waffles and pop tarts, you’re not fooling anybody. However, other breakfast staples may not seem so sinful at first glance. Either way, do yourself a favor and skip these seven foods at the breakfast table. Opting for more nutritionally balanced, wholesome alternatives will actually prepare you to take on the day. Check 'em out below — and then make your morning even better by finding out the 30 Best Breakfast Habits to Drop for Weight Loss!

Sugary cereal

Leave the Lucky Charms and Frosted Flakes where they belong — in your childhood memories. The sugar rush from these cereals will mess with your blood sugar and cause you to reach for more sugary snacks later on in the day (turn to these healthy sweet snacks instead). “Classic breakfast foods can often be high in sugar, lower in nutritional value including vitamins and minerals, healthy fat, fiber and protein that can help to carry us forward into the day feeling satisfied and energized,” says Isabel Smith, MS, RD, CDN, registered dietitian and founder of Isabel Smith Nutrition.

This remains true for sweet cereals. Also, be aware that healthier looking options like granolas can also contain high amounts of sugar, so be sure to read the nutrition label before buying! And burn fat — fast — with these essential
14 Ways to Lose Your Belly in 14 Days!

Waffles

Waffles can be incredibly heavy on the simple carbs (meaning, they digest quickly and won’t keep you full for long), and have the potential to qualify as dessert depending on your toppings of choice. Some toaster varieties, if specified on the package, may offer a decent amount of fiber, but others can be seriously lacking.

Whether you make your own batter or pop some in the toaster, waffles don’t exactly provide you with a balanced breakfast. “When it comes to picking a great breakfast, you always want to combine protein or fat with minimally processed carbohydrates that are rich in fiber, for example, scrambled eggs with fruit or toast,” says Smith.

Orange juice

Nothing quite hits the spot like a glass of OJ in the morning, right? This breakfast mainstay is actually loaded with sugar and relatively low in nutrition (especially highly processed, store-bought varieties). “Juice (particularly heat pasteurized fruit juice) in the morning can serve up a high dose of sugar and calories. Also, given that the fruit juice is processed at a higher temperature some of the nutrient value can be lost, too.

Instead, choose a freshly squeezed juice, cold-pressed juice or high-pressure-pasteurized fruit and vegetable juice that contains more nutrients and less sugar,” says Smith. A good rule is to look for a juice that boasts two veggies for every fruit included. Not into juice anyway? Then check out these

25 shipwrecks around the world and the fascinating history behind them

Perhaps the most famous shipwreck in the world due to the scale of the tragedy and the fact that the ship was considered unsinkable (not to mention to a certain Oscar-winning movie), the Titanic continues to fascinate marine archaeologists and amateur explorers alike.

But there are countless other shipwrecks beneath the ocean and stranded on land around the world.

Here's what 25 different sunken ships look like — and how they got there.

The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Baron Gautsch, an Austro-Hungarian steamboat that sank in the northern Croatian Adriatic sea, was marked on August 13, 2014.

The ship, originally used to service passenger lines, had been leased by the Austro-Hungarian army following the July 1914 outbreak of World War I to transport troops, only to run into a minefield off the Brijuni islands less than a month later. Estimates say between 240 and 390 people perished in the sinking, making it one of the biggest losses of life in World War I.

Today, the shipwreck lies at a depth of 131 feet (40 meters) off the coast of Rovinj and is said to be the most popular site for divers in the Adriatic.

The SS Maheno went from ocean liner to hospital ship to a rusty wreck on Fraser Island, Australia.

The SS Maheno was an ocean liner until it was repurposed as a hospital ship during World War I. After the war, the ship was sold to a shipbreaker in Osaka, Japan. As it was being towed to its new home in 1935, a cyclone hit and broke the line connecting the two ships. The SS Maheno drifted off to Fraser Island, where it remains today.

The skeletal remains of an unknown French sailor sit in the hull of the wreck of French explorer La Salle's The Belle ship in the Gulf of Mexico.

Discovered on Halloween in 1996, the remains of The Belle had been underwater for 310 years before being discovered by marine archaeologists. The ship lies 15 miles offshore, 125 miles southwest of Houston. A cofferdam allowed archaeologists to expose the sea floor for research.

The Belle was one of four ships belonging to the French explorer La Salle, according to Texas A&M Today. It carried 300 settlers who were supposed to colonize the Gulf Coast area, but incorrect maps led the ships hundreds of miles astray to the coast of Texas. The Belle was abandoned in 1686 after storms caused it to sink in Matagorda Bay.

Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link 2

Stretching 15,500 miles, China's "bullet train" network is already the largest in the world. By comparison, the second biggest high-speed rail network — in Spain — measures just 1,926 miles.

But by the end of 2018, China's will get even longer.

China Railway Corp, the country’s government-owned train operator, will soon finish the last phase of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link, a high-speed rail line spanning more than 80 miles.

Construction is near complete in Hong Kong, where China is building a 4 million-square-foot station for the new trains, as reported by The Hong Kong Free Press.

While the seven-year, $10.7 billion project is certainly impressive, it has faced much controversy surrounding its cost, its construction delays, and how it could affect Hong Kong's political autonomy.

Take a look below.

When complete, the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link will stretch 88.2 miles and connect Beijing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

Construction began in 2011, and the majority of the line is already in operation. The last phase in Hong Kong will measure about 16 miles long, according to China Daily.

The trains, named the Vibrant Express, can go up to 217 mph. They are equipped with power outlets and wi-fi.

Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you haven't seen some of the following shows.

No matter what genre of television you're into, most of us can think of couples on TV we've looked up to throughout our lives, or couples who inspire us in our own relationships.

From comedies to dramas, mysteries to sitcoms, the heart-warming romance is endless.

Here are 24 of the best TV couples to date — in no particular order.

Randall and Beth Pearson from "This Is Us"

Randall and Beth Pearson met in college, and they immediately hit it off, with Randall doing everything he can to seem cool, rather than acting like the nerd we know and love. They get married, have two girls, and overall their family is stable and thriving.

They're close-knit and they stick together, even when the unexpected happens — from navigating their complicated relationship with Randall's birth father to deciding to ultimately become foster parents. Together, they handle everything life throws at them.

They are a great example of a healthy relationship.

Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd from "Grey's Anatomy"

What started off as a one night stand with the dreamboat she'd soon find out was one of her bosses turns out be the ultimate love story. Meredith and Derek make the whole working together and being together thing work (for the most part). It's impossible not to root for them.

Their on-and-off again relationship is filled with so much passion, and even though they occasionally venture from one another to pursue other relationships, they ultimately end up together.

I think we'll always wonder, what if? What if Derek hadn't died and they were still in love, saving lives, and raising Zola, Bailey, and Ellis while growing old together in the house Derek built for Meredith?

Stef and Lena Foster from "The Fosters"

Stef, a police officer, and Lena, a principal, had a rocky start to their relationship. They met when Stef was still married to her husband, and not out. Eventually, Stef divorced her husband to be with Lena. They build a large family together, with both biological and adopted children, and with their large family comes lots of drama.

Together, they deal with everything: losing jobs, their kids getting arrested, cancer, the death of a parent, and more. They push through it all, always coming out stronger than ever.

royal family

  • Prince William and Kate Middleton are soon-to-be proud parents of three royal children.
  • Since welcoming their first child in 2013, they've opened up quite a bit about the joys and challenges of parenthood.
  • Here are 10 times the royal couple got real about parenting.

Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton are the proud parents of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, with a third little royal on the way. They've learned a lot since welcoming their firstborn in 2013, and they've shared a lot, too — about the joys and challenges of parenthood, their hopes and fears for their children, and the importance of asking for help. Read on for some of their most honest, relatable quotes about having kids.

Kate, on becoming a parent for the first time

When Duchess Kate welcomed her first child, Prince George, in July 2013, she told reporters outside St. Mary's Hospital that becoming a parent was "very emotional" for her. "It's such a special time," she said. "I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like."

William, on how parenting changed him

"I'm a lot more emotional than I used to be, weirdly," the prince said in a BBC documentary in 2016. "I never used to get too wound up or worried about things. But now the smallest little things, you well up a little more, you get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more, I think, as a father. … [It's] just because you realize how precious life is and it puts it all in perspective. The idea of not being around to see your children grow up and stuff like that."

William, on parental separation anxiety

"This is actually our first evening out without [Prince George]," he said at the Tusk Conservation Awards in 2013, "so please excuse us if you see us nervously casting surreptitious glances at our mobile phones to check all is well back home."

15 things you're probably doing wrong when you run

treadmill running workout gym exercise men

  • When you go for a run, make sure you're wearing the proper shoes or else you might injure your feet.
  • You should always stretch and warm up before your run to get your blood flowing and keep your muscles loose.
  • Pre-workout meals should be loaded with carbs while post-workout foods should be heavy in protein.

If you love a workout you can do anywhere, the thrill of competing in a 5K, or just know that no other exercise is going to tone both your abs and your glutes as effectively as a jog, you’re not alone. Nearly ten percent of Americans cite running as their preferred method of exercise, and considering the inherent full-body benefits, it’s no wonder those numbers continue to rise.

The only problem? Just because you think you know how to run doesn’t mean you’re necessarily doing it correctly — or effectively. Whether you’re fueling up incorrectly beforehand, making mistakes with your gear, or simply screwing up your form, there are myriad ways you can botch this rote act. Herein, we’ve founded up sage advice, straight from fitness pros, to help you ID these mistakes — and correct them once and for all. And if you’re looking for places to get your run on, check out the 50 Best American Cities for Joggers.

You're choosing the wrong shoes

Before you even get out the door for your run, you may be sabotaging yourself with the wrong shoes. Not only can opting for the wrong shoes make it more difficult to run comfortably for a prolonged period of time, it can also make you more injury-prone.

“Choosing the right footwear is crucial,” says Glenn Dickstein, Founder & CEO of Neighborhood Trainers. “It’s important to know your feet. Are you overpronator or underpronator? High arch, low arch?  Depending on your foot type, you’ll know if you need a shoe with more cushioning or more stability. Choosing the wrong shoes can result in pain, injury, and then, no running.”

Adds New York City-based holistic health and fitness coach Dennis Hoop, an expert in senior and medical fitness, “It is best to go to a specialized running or athletic shoe store, where they do foot analysis. With the help of the store employees, you can choose the best running shoe for you, depending on your foot shape, size, step and body weight.” For stylish footwear ideas, check out the 10 Coolest Retro-Inspired Running Shoes.

You're tying your laces too tightly

While a loosely-tied shoe can make you more susceptible to injury, over-tightening can be just as bad. An overly-tight shoe can put pressure on the bones in your foot, forcing you to adopt an uneven gait, while potentially limiting your circulation, as well.

“The worst thing you can do is over-tighten your shoes,” says Joshua Margolis, a fitness consultant with Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness. “It will restrict blood flow. Plus, it’s unbelievably uncomfortable.” For more ways to optimize your footwear, learn The Single Best Way to Tie Your Shoes Before A Run.

You aren't pacing yourself

It’s nice to imagine that you’ll be ready to train for a marathon within months of starting running. Unfortunately, that’s not true for most of us; in fact, pacing yourself, especially when you’re still a novice, is one of the most crucial things a runner can do.

“One of the biggest mistakes people make when they start running is choosing the wrong pace and distance for their fitness level. If you are a newbie at running, instead of starting with sprints or pushing yourself to 5 or 10 mile runs, start with some shorter ones,” says Hoop.

“You don’t want to feel completely fatigued or sore for the next days. Opt for a mile run at a slower pace. Gradually increase your running speed and distance, because if you increase your load too quickly injuries may occur.” And for more on the matter, learn all of the things that happen to your body when you exercise.

Here’s what license plates look like in every US state — and the hidden meaning behind them

license plate collection 2

US license plates are as diverse as the states they come from. From plates that showcase state symbols to those that display famous landmarks or historical figures, each one has a story to tell.

Plates from mountainous states like Colorado and Nevada proudly display ranges such as the Rockies and the Sierra Nevadas. In states where farming is a common industry (Iowa, Wisconsin), you'll find plates that depict rural life.

Scroll down to see what license plates look like in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

ALABAMA

Technically a distinctive license plate rather than a standard-issue one, the patriotic "God Bless America" plate  became so popular in Alabama that the state decided not to charge drivers extra for it. The upper right corner features a heart inscribed with Alabama's nickname, the "Heart of Dixie."

In contrast, the standard Alabama plate depicts a bucolic nature scene — a river and green hills backdropped by a golden sky.

ALASKA

Alaska's current license plate features the state's nickname, "The Last Frontier," paired with an image of the state flag. The stars on the flag are the Big Dipper and Polaris (the North Star). They respectively symbolize strength and Alaska's northern location.

ARIZONA

Arizona's license plate informs people of the state's nickname (the "Grand Canyon State") and showcases its famous desert landscape.

8 people reveal why they stopped being sexually attracted to their partners

couple sitting on a bench

At this point, you should know that sex isn't the only reason to be in a relationship with someone.

But sex is a big component of a relationship for many couples. Establishing sexual compatibility is vital for a healthy relationship, and if it isn't there, some couples might just call it quits.

It is also possible, however, to be in a committed relationship with someone, consider yourself to be in love with them, and not really want to have sex with them. In fact, not only is it possible, it's more common than you think — last year, a study found that women tend to lose interest in sex about a year into a relationship.

All the same, there is an undeniable stigma around people who are in a relationship but might not be into sex, which means that people aren't talking about it as much as they could be.

Recently, to start more discussion on the topic, a Reddit user asked people to share how things panned out when they still loved their significant other, but had stopped being attracted to them. Scroll through to see what they had to say — you might be surprised by how much you relate.

1. Living together lowered one partner's sex drive.

"He was not a good partner in terms of the practical aspects of life together. I did all the laundry, all the cleaning, all the emotional labor, etc. Sexual attraction was strong before we moved in together because I wasn't doing those things; once we moved in together, and I realized the dishes would never be washed if I didn't do them, sex declined rapidly. The resentment that built over his lack of respect for my time and my labor completely overpowered sexual attraction. He never seemed to understand why I wasn't horny after picking up his dirty socks and throwing out the wrappers he left laying around everywhere." - Reddit user Napsaremyfavorite

2. Birth control and antidepressants can have a negative impact on sex drive.

"My boyfriend and I have experienced a sexual attraction decline but I love him to death. If I'm not in the mood he doesn't mind. I'll go a month without wanting sex because of my birth control and antidepressants and he doesn't mind. So I think we are fine." - Reddit user Jennifurbie

3. Attraction to their partner diminished over time.

"I loved this man and was with him for years, but we had so many problems because I was almost never in the mood for anything sexual, so over time he obviously became quite frustrated. To be honest, now I try to only date guys I am very attracted to because of this experience." - Reddit user Pidgeon_English

7 lies movies told you about what sex is really like

bridesmaids sex scene

It's tough for Hollywood producers to resist adding sex scenes to movies (well, those geared toward adults, at least). Because, for the most part, audiences enjoy the idea of beautiful people having an intimate moment – one in which everything goes perfectly smoothly.

Unfortunately, big-screen sex scenes don't always depict the realities of intercourse and thus may perpetuate many myths about sex. Read on for six ways that movies get sex all wrong, according to the experts.

Orgasms are easy to achieve and guaranteed.

Very few movie sex scenes end with one — or both — partners failing to orgasm. Instead, movies would have you believe that everyone orgasms every time they have sex and that achieving said orgasm is a piece of cake.

The truth is, female orgasms take a bit of finesse, and many people with vaginas struggle with having orgasms or don't orgasm at all. In fact, one in three women has trouble reaching orgasm when having sex with a partner.

And although much of the focus in research is on female orgasms, men can have trouble reaching climax, too, or struggle to get or maintain an erection.

No one's body makes weird noises during sex.

If and when your body makes noise during sex, keep in mind that it's perfectly natural and normal and shouldn't be a cause for embarrassment.

Queefing, sometimes called "vaginal wind," happens when air that gets trapped in the vagina during intercourse is pushed out. Farting during sex happens, too, and — although it might not be pleasant for either party — it's perfectly normal.

Women's reproductive organs are located close to the colon, and any pressure on these organs can cause the colon to release gas. Also, because orgasm causes your body to relax, it may also make you more prone to pass gas.

The more moaning and yelling, the more pleasure.

Most movies — including the erotic kind — depict women as uttering an endless string of sound effects during sex, from moaning to screaming. Let's not forget that iconic scene from "When Harry Met Sally" with Meg Ryan simulating orgasm in the middle of a restaurant.

Yet lots of noise doesn't necessarily equate to lots of pleasure. Experts say that women often make noise during sex prior to orgasm as a way to help their partner climax or to relieve boredom, fatigue, or discomfort.
