8 signs you're a narcissist — even if you don't think you are

woman looking in mirror

Everyone knows someone they would consider narcissistic. They account for about 6% of the world's population, and a majority of them identify as male. They seem to care only about themselves and think they're the most interesting, talented, or attractive person in the world.

But it might surprise you to know that there's more to narcissism than that. In fact, there are several subtle signs that you may even be a narcissist without realizing it.

You interrupt people when they're talking.

The goal of a narcissist is to get the attention back onto them, and to do that, they need to take control of the conversation. Think about how often you cut someone off mid-sentence to insert your own story or experience to the conversation.

When you do let people talk, you're not engaged.

If you do finally let someone have the chance to talk, consider whether or not you're really hearing them. A narcissist will expect people to listen to them talk, ask them questions about themselves, and stay engaged. But when it's time for someone else to talk, they tune out and disengage. According to Psychology Today, a narcissist "dismisses, negates, ignores, minimizes, denigrates or otherwise renders irrelevant" the words of others in a conversation.

You aren't considerate of other people's time.

If people cancel plans at the last minute, you're livid, but you have no problem doing the same thing to others. Since your time is more valuable, you don't mind making people wait for you.

best anti aging serum

The Insider Pick:

  • Let’s face it, there’s nothing you can do about getting older, but you can delay the signs of aging. If you’re looking for a high-performance, multi-tasking serum that contains age-defying ingredients but won’t totally break the bank, the Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum is the best you can buy.

Using a serum as part of your skincare routine is essential to keep your skin looking youthful and to keep those darn wrinkles at bay. Considered the superheroes of skincare, serums are packed with powerful ingredients that penetrate deep into the skin.

Anti-aging serums deal primarily with fine lines, wrinkles, and dehydration, but also tone, texture, and dark spots. Some of the best anti-aging Ingredients to look out for are vitamin C, for brightening the skin, hyaluronic acid for plumping it up, and Retinol, a vitamin A derivative that treats a multitude of skin concerns from wrinkles to acne.

It’s important to choose a serum that suits your skin’s specific needs and to bear in mind they do have a shelf life of around six months, so it’s best to store them in a cool, dark place.

To avoid you spending your hard earned cash on an anti-aging serum only to find out it doesn’t work or isn’t right for you, we have tried and tested the best ones and consulted hundreds of buyer and expert reviews to come up with our top five recommendations.

Here are our top picks for the best anti-aging serums you can buy:

10 celebrity couples who met when they were seeing other people

blake lively ryan reynolds

For as long as there's been cinema, actors and actresses have been falling in love on set. Same goes for singers, TV stars, and other entertainers. There's just some kind of chemistry that occurs between people in the same business, and that chemistry cannot be planned for. So it's common that many celebrities meet their future partners while they're in relationships with other people.

Here are ten examples of some famous couples — some together, some not — who met when they were already taken.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds met on the set of "The Green Lantern."

"Gossip Girl" stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley dated from May 2007 to September 2010. While they were together, she was cast in "Green Lantern" opposite Ryan Reynolds, which they filmed from March to August 2010. They got together after Reynolds divorced actress Scarlett Johansson. Now, Reynolds and Lively are married and have two daughters.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt famously met during "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

After falling for actress Angelina Jolie while filming "Mr and Mrs. Smith" together, actor Brad Pitt ended his four-and-a-half-year marriage with actress Jennifer Aniston reportedly to be with his new flame. Pitt and Aniston had been together for a total of seven years. Jolie and Pitt eventually married, then split in 2017.

Sarah Hyland and Dom Sherwood met on the set of "Vampire Academy"

In early 2009, actress Sarah Hyland met actor Matt Prokop while auditioning for "High School Musical 3." The two dated until August 2014, when she broke up with him amid accusations of abuse. Meanwhile, Hyland had met actor Dom Sherwood on the set of "Vampire Academy" in summer 2013, and they were spotted together in January 2015, dated for two years, and then split. Hyland is now dating former Bachelorette contestant Wells Adams.

18 movies we can't wait to see this summer

skyscraper the rock

"Avengers: Infinity War" kicked off the unofficial start of summer movies at the end of April. And we're just getting started.

Over 70 comedies, dramas, horror movies, and superhero movies are coming to theaters between now and August. But what should you see?

INSIDER rounded up the big sequels, spin-offs, and documentaries you'll want to keep an eye out for over the next few months along with one movie kids will want to see.

"Deadpool 2"

Release date: May 18

What it's about: After a hit box-office debut in 2016, the foul-mouthed Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is back. Instead of getting together with the X-Men, he's recruiting his own superhero group called the X-Force to go up against a new villain — and longtime Deadpool frenemy — Cable (Josh Brolin).

Why to see it: Ryan Reynolds has really made Deadpool his own and we're excited to see what he does next with the character.

After over a decade of trying to get the character to screen, the R-rated 2016 movie was a surprise hit thanks to the fourth-wall breaking character. If you've seen "Avengers: Infinity War," you may want to tune in to see Brolin who's pulling double duty this summer as the villains in both Marvel movies.

Watch the trailer here.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story"

Release date: May 25

What it's about: A young Han Solo gets his own stand-alone movie that will show us how he met Lando Calrissian and won the Millennium Falcon.

Why to see it: Han Solo may be the last reason we want to see the new movie and we're OK with that. Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton ("Westworld"), and Donald Glover as a young Calrissian have us fired up. Then there's "Infinity War's" Paul Bettany starring as a mysterious villain.

Our only concern? The movie switched directors while filming from Chris Miller and Phil Lord to Ron Howard. We'll see if Howard was able to get the Falcon back on course.

Watch the trailer here.

"Ocean's 8"

Release date: June 8

What it's about: Eight women gather together to rob the Met Gala, a plan Danny Ocean's sister Debbie (Sandra Bullock) has been planning for over five years.

Why to see it: The spin-off of the popular "Ocean's" franchise is putting together some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Where else can you see Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter all in one place? We're even hoping for a Julia Roberts cameo as Tess.

I swapped TV for books for 2 weeks, and it didn't have the effect I expected

television

  • Television has become a staple in many people's routines, especially now that streaming shows and movies are available at the click of a button.
  • As an avid TV watcher, I decided to rediscover my childhood love for books by replacing TV with reading for two weeks.
  • It was difficult, and I found myself missing my evening television viewing, but I've shifted my entertainment habits as a result of this experiment.

When I was 9, my parents moved our family to a house in the suburbs and bought a huge flat-screen television. Suddenly TV, which until then had been limited to a half-hour after school — if I didn’t have homework — became an essential part of my daily life.

After this shift, reading became an educational activity rather than the pure entertainment it had been before.

Recently, I found myself missing reading for fun. Plus, I have a stack of books next to my bed that are more decorative than anything else at this point. So I decided to give up my two-hour postwork TV habit for two weeks and replace it with reading.

By the end of the experiment, I made a dent in my bedside-reading stack. I finished a new book (Shirley Jackson’s “The Haunting of Hill House”), reread another (Tina Fey’s “Bossypants”), and started “Tenth of December,” a collection of short stories by George Saunders.

The experiment also affected me in ways I wasn’t expecting.

SEE ALSO: 8 facts that will convince you to read a book instead of binge-watching TV tonight

1. I listened to a lot more music than usual.

I work from home, and I quickly figured out that I had been using the television to simulate having someone else in the room while I worked.

With that gone, I was acutely aware of how solitary my job is. I quickly restarted the Spotify premium membership I'd recently cancelled for some much needed background noise.

2. I realized how blurry the lines are between TV and digital culture.

The rules of engagement for this experiment were not as cut and dried as I thought they were. Was I allowed to watch Instagram or Snapchat videos? Could I watch a news clip on Twitter?

Watching video online felt like cheating, so I decided to avoid it (with the notable exception of dog videos). This decision made me feel left out of certain events, like the White House Correspondents' Dinner. But with the speed of the news cycle, I got over my FOMO quickly.

3. I focused a lot more on what I was giving up than what I gained.

"The Haunting of Hill House" was suspenseful and reminded me of how much I loved sci-fi books as a kid. Tina Fey's memoir made me laugh and think about how much pop culture has changed in the past seven years. George Saunders' collection of short stories was delightfully unpredictable and made me want to pick up creative writing again.

2000 NFL Draft Top Picks

The 2000 NFL Draft is perhaps best known for taking 198 picks to get to Michigan quarterback Tom Brady.

Yes, Brady fell all the way to the sixth round, making the rest of the league look silly, but what about the rest of the draft?

The first round had some noteworthy players, some of whom had some pretty successful careers. Unfortunately, other picks didn't pan out so well.

Here's a look at the first 31 picks in the 2000 NFL Draft and where they are today.

Emmett Knowlton contributed to this report.

The Browns picked Penn State defensive end Courtney Brown with the first pick in the draft.

Brown is widely considered one of the biggest draft busts of all time. He lasted until 2005, but never lived up to the hype he had coming out of college. He now does missionary work in the Dominican Republic.

The Redskins had the 2nd and 3rd picks. They drafted Penn State LB LaVar Arrington second overall.

Microsoft build cuddle corner animals

This week, Microsoft held its annual Build conference for developers in Seattle, where it announced advancements in its artificial intelligence tech and updates to the Windows operating system.

But we're not here to discuss that.

We're here to talk about the Cuddle Corner — a section of the Microsoft Build show floor where attendees could blow off some steam by, well, cuddling with rabbits, puppy dogs, baby lambs, and even a miniature horse.

It was, by many accounts, a highlight of Build. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella almost went to get his cuddle on, but decided against it at the last second, according to a Geekwire report. Oh well.

I wasn't there, but fortunately, a friend was on the ground in Seattle to check it out. A picture of a miniature horse is worth a thousand words, so check out the cuddle corner:

Welcome to the Cuddle Corner, where Microsoft Build attendees could get some downtime with cute animals including rabbits, dogs, and a miniature horse.

Let's get a better look at the tiny horses, shall we?

Don't be fooled by that last photo: The horses had plenty of room to move around.

14 celebrities who married their high school sweethearts

While most people are dubious (at best) when people marry their high school sweethearts, sometimes it truly does work out.

These 14 celebrity couples met (or thought they met) their soulmates when they were just teenagers. Not all of them are still together — the story of Eminem and his wife Kim comes to mind — but all 14 couples shared their adolescent lives.

Read on to learn how these 14 high school sweethearts met, and how some were even able to keep their relationships afloat while navigating the pressures of fame and fortune.

Snoop Dogg and his wife Shante Broadus have been together for over 20 years, and even went to prom together.

Their first son, Cordé, was born in 1994 and they were married three years later in 1997. Snoop even shared an adorable throwback shot of the two at prom on Instagram. The ups and downs of their marriage were all documented on their reality TV show, "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood."

The couple filed for divorce in 2004, but reconciled and renewed their vows in 2008. According to VH1, Snoop told Queen Latifah in 2013 that "[he] had no understanding of how I was hurting her and how I was betraying myself, until I [realized] I need to love this woman who loves me and had my kids. [I needed to] put my life in perspective and let my music and my business become secondary."

Jeff Daniels and his wife Kathleen Treado still live in their childhood home town with their kids.

Daniels and Treado grew up in Chelsea, Michigan, and met in high school. They've been together ever since. Throughout his highly successful career, the couple still call Chelsea their home, and raised their three kids there.

In 2014, Daniels spoke about why he chose to stay close to home rather than move out to industry hubs Los Angeles or New York City, saying "[Chelsea] was home. Kathleen and I had both been raised here; good enough for us, good enough for them."

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton are no longer together, but their relationship began when they were 16.

Thicke told Essence in 2011 that their relationship began when they were both 16 years old and Patton was "the president of the Black student union and [Thicke] was just a silly White boy." But they had actually met a year prior at a teen club where, according to Thicke, he serenaded his future-wife with the Stevie Wonder song "Jungle Fever."

According to E!, they were together for 21 years and married for nine, before filing for divorce in 2014 and engaging in a particularly nasty custody battle for their son Julian.

McDonald's employees share the 14 strangest orders they've ever gotten

McDonald's employee

  • McDonald's' menu isn't expansive enough for some customers, who prefer to customize their orders.
  • As a result, McDonald's crew members sometimes get pretty strange requests from these pickier customers.
  • From cups of pickles to empty boxes, here's a look at some of the most unusual orders McDonald's employees say they've gotten over the years.

The McDonald's menu offers a pretty extensive overview of what the fast food giant has to offer.

But it's not the whole story. You could always try a selection from the chain's secret menu.

Or you could go completely off-script and customize your order.

Some McDonald's crew members seem to have mixed feelings about complicated custom orders. In a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" thread last year, a McDonald's employee said they hated making "special request" orders that are too "weirdly specific."

A number of McDonald's employees have taken to Reddit and Quora to discuss some of the most unusual items that they've ever prepared — or refused to prepare — for customers. The orders ranged from a cup of pickles to bags of uncooked chicken nuggets.

Here are a number of strange orders that McDonald's employees have encountered on the job:

Poached egg whites

Some McDonald's customers come up with pretty fancy orders.

Quora user and former McDonald's employee Chelle Gordon wrote that one man insisted upon being served poached egg whites.

"The order taker had no idea how to answer that, so they called me as the manager on duty," she wrote.

She told the man that poached egg whites were off the table as "it is not on the menu, we have no one trained to separate eggs, and we have no way to time it so we wouldn't know when it was done."

The man ended up lingering in the drive-thru and arguing with Gordon, until he left empty-handed.

"Ultimately, if I had an hour to test it out, I might have been able to come up with something edible," she wrote. "That is, if I had stopped managing for an hour to work on his order. But it's fast food, not a gourmet restaurant."

Half-cut fries

A Reddit user who said they worked at McDonald's described encountering a customer who ordered a McChicken sandwich "with the bun and the chicken separate."

The woman then asked for her fries to be "half-cut."

"As in, take a knife and cut them in half," the Reddit user wrote. "It was lucky she only wanted a small, but still. I ended up leaving one fry uncut just to f--- with her, but she didn't come complaining."

An empty box

Quora user and former McDonald's employee Ryan Turner wrote that a customer once asked for a rather light order.

"While it wasn't very busy, I got a new order for a triple cheeseburger," Turner wrote. "Except, this triple cheeseburger had no patties, no cheese, no pickles, no onion, no ketchup, and no mustard. And no bun."

He realized that the order was for nothing.

"So I called out to the front counter and asked what the hell this order was supposed to be," he wrote. "They frowned as well, and just said: 'Just send down an empty triple cheeseburger box.'"

What we know about Quentin Tarantino's new movie, which stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie

tarantino dicaprio

Quentin Tarantino announced earlier this year that Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio would be starring in his upcoming ninth film, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," which partly involves the Manson Family murders.

On Monday, Tarantino and DiCaprio teased a few details about the film at the Las Vegas industry event CinemaCon.

This week, Margot Robbie confirmed to IndieWire that she was playing the role of actor Sharon Tate in the film.

Pitt worked with Tarantino on 2009's "Inglorious Basterds," and DiCaprio appeared in 2013's "Django Unchained."

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is set for release August 9, 2019.

Here's everything we know about Tarantino's upcoming ninth film:

SEE ALSO: Quentin Tarantino's next film will be released by Sony following the Harvey Weinstein scandal

DON'T MISS: Charles Manson was sentenced to 9 life sentences for orchestrating 7 gruesome murders with his cult 'family' — here's his life story

The film takes place in "Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood."

Tarantino described "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in a statement last month, calling it, "a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor ... Sharon Tate."

In July 2017, early reports of the film described its script as focused on the murder of actress Sharon Tate by Charles Manson's followers.

While Tarantino's most recent statement mentions Sharon Tate as a player in the movie, Tarantino previously said that the film would not center on Manson but on the year 1969.

At CinemaCon on Monday, Tarantino did not add much to the description of the plot, calling the project "very hush-hush and top secret."

It has been five years in the making.

Tarantino said last month that he had been working on the script for the film for half a decade.

"I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," he said. "I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

It's a "Pulp Fiction-esque" movie

Deadline reported in January that the Leonardo DiCaprio would play an "aging actor" in a "'Pulp Fiction'-esque movie."

"Pulp Fiction," Tarantino's 1994 classic, told a collection of interconnected stories.

On Monday, Tarantino confirmed this sentiment by saying that "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" is "probably the closest to 'Pulp Fiction' that I have done."

There's a new iPhone bug that can cause your messaging app to crash with just 2 texts

$
0
0

There's a new iPhone bug crashing people's messaging apps, and all it takes is two texts.

People are referring to it as "The Black Dot Bug" because of the black circle emoji that you see in the text before your messaging app shuts down. The app goes white, and it can't be fixed by force closing the app or by restarting your phone. The rest of your phone will be seemingly unaffected, although it might be a little slower to work until you fix the bug.

black dot bug first text

The namesake black dot emoji isn't what actually causes the messaging app to crash — it's the hundreds, potentially thousands of lines of Unicode text that come after the emoji that overwhelms the phone's processor. It's all stored and accessed from this website, as YouTuber Filip Koroy, popularly known as EverythingApplePro, explains, so it's not something that can be sent accidentally.

Luckily there's a fix, and it only takes a few seconds: Force close the Message app, 3D Touch the Message icon, and select "New Message." Everything should be in working order again, so go back to your inbox and delete the message.

Apple doesn't have an official fix yet, but it's expected to have one soon, according to EverythingApplePro. In the meantime, here's a step-by-step explainer of how and why the Black Dot Bug works:

The good news is that it's impossible to send a black dot of death text by accident — it requires intent (pro tip: Don't do this, your friends and family probably won't find it funny, and if they don't know the fix it could prevent them from being able to text). This is the site where people go to send the texts that cause the crash. As you can see, there are two messages the person has to send for this to work.

Clicking on the option to send the first message pulls up this text. It doesn't do anything itself, but it's a necessary first step, so use it as a warning that something worse is coming.

And this is the second text. It looks like it has hundreds of lines of Unicode text, but my phone was too slow to scroll so I couldn't count to be sure. All of this text overwhelms the recipient's phone's CPU and causes the Message app to crash.

My phone was heating up just trying to load and send this, and my battery had a tough time keeping up.

As you can tell from the timestamps, it took about 20 minutes to load after I hit "Send the second message, (long to load)," and it had to do it in multiple steps; once the message pulled up, it was about ten minutes before I could even access the keyboard to type in the recipient's name.

  • Three corporations — Novartis, Korea Aerospace Industries, and AT&T — paid a firm linked to President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
  • The payments to Cohen were made to Essential Consulting and were revealed by Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing the adult-film star Stormy Daniels in her court cases against Trump and Cohen.
  • Here's a rundown of how much the three companies paid and their explanations of the payments.

Three corporations are facing questions on Wednesday after making large payments to a consulting firm linked to President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen.

Novartis, a Swiss pharmaceutical firm; Korea Aerospace Industries, a South Korean defense contractor; and AT&T, the massive US telecom, all paid Cohen-linked Essential Consulting more than $150,000.

Reasons for the payments varied from insight into the Trump administration to help with US accounting rules.

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing the adult-film star Stormy Daniels, revealed the payments on Tuesday in a report that detailed Cohen's finances.

In addition to the payments from the companies, the report alleged that a $500,000 payment from Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg to a separate LLC shortly after the 2016 election helped pay alleged hush money to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

We've run down the full list of companies that paid Cohen, how much they paid, and what they said they paid for below.

Healthcare giant Novartis paid Cohen $1.2 million in a year.

Novartis, one of the largest pharmaceutical firms in the world, confirmed the payment on Wednesday.

In a series of statements, the Swiss drugmaker clarified that the company had a year-long contract with Essential that paid $100,000 a month and "focused on US healthcare policy matters."

An employee told STAT News that Cohen reached out to Novartis's then-CEO Joe Jimenez promising help gaining access to Trump.

The company determined after meeting with Cohen that the lawyer's assistance was not helpful.

"Following this initial meeting, Novartis determined that Michael Cohen and Essential Consultants would be unable to provide the services that Novartis had anticipated related to US healthcare policy matters and the decision was taken not to engage further,"Novartis said in a statement.

South Korean defense company Korea Aerospace Industries paid Cohen $150,000 in November 2017.

The company, which is partly owned by the South Korean government's Export-Import bank, confirmed the payment and claimed the money was for "legal consulting concerning accounting standards on production costs."

It was a one-time payment that came at the end of contact with Essential, the firm said.

Korea Aerospace is currently partnered with Lockheed Martin on a bid to win a US Air Force contract. The contract winner would supply the Air Force with training aircraft and receive up to $16.3 billion.

AT&T paid Cohen at least $200,000 in four installments from late 2017 to early 2018.

The telecom giant confirmed the payment and said Cohen was paid to help AT&T better understand the Trump administration.

"Essential Consulting was one of several firms we engaged in early 2017 to provide insights into understanding the new administration," AT&T said in a statement Tuesday evening. "They did no legal or lobbying work for us, and the contract ended in December 2017."

AT&T is currently in the midst of a legal battle with the Trump administration over a proposed merger with Time Warner.

A source told CNBC on Wednesday that AT&T may have paid Cohen up to $600,000, but said it "wasn't to pay for access to the president."

5 signs your sleeping position may be hurting your body

You may settle in for sleep in whatever position feels comfortable at the time. But, the way you position yourself when you sleep might not actually be doing you any favors and, in fact, might be causing you some harm.

And though you might think that it'd be easy to spot any potential signs that your sleep position is hurting you, some of the signs might be a bit more subtle than you'd expect.

We rounded up some of the signs that your sleep position isn't good for you can give you more information about your health, well-being, and general sleeping habits.

You're in pain.

If you wake up in pain, that can definitely be a sign that your sleep position is hurting you. You shouldn't be waking up aching all over after sleeping.

Chris Brantner, a certified sleep science coach and founder of SleepZoo.com, told INSIDER that back pain is commonly caused by sleeping in the wrong position (on your stomach).

"Sleeping on your stomach can also cause neck pain, especially if you keep your head turned to one side too long," he said.

You're snoring.

Snoring might only seem like a problem if your partner is complaining, but that's not exactly the case. You might be able to help ease your snoring by changing up the position in which you sleep.

"On its surface, snoring could just be seen as annoying, but many people are being diagnosed with sleep apnea, which means the body actually stops breathing as frequently as 20 to 30 times per hour,"Bill Fish, a certified sleep science coach and the co-founder of Tuck Sleep, told INSIDER. "Thus, anyone who snores, should not be sleeping on their back, as they won't be getting the quality sleep they need."

"There is a correlation between sleep position and worsening of sleep breathing. For many with the sleep disorder, sleep apnea, breathing is worse when sleeping in the supine position (on one's back). While the mechanism is not fully understood, it is presumed to occur because of the gravitational effects of the tissues closing off the airway during sleep," Dr. Neil Kline, DO, DABSM, a spokesperson for the American Sleep Association, explained.

Talk to your doctor or dentist (or both) and let them know that you're snoring so that if it's undiagnosed sleep apnea that you're dealing with, it's caught and addressed sooner rather than later.

You're tired, even though you slept.

Being tired all day long is another potential sign that your sleep position isn't doing you any favors. Darren G. Koch, DDS, PA, a family and cosmetic dentist, told INSIDER that this too can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea, which requires a medical evaluation to confirm a diagnosis. Koch also noted that if you do have sleep apnea or snore, you shouldn't sleep on your back.

"In these patients, back sleeping can lead to the collapse of the soft tissues of the throat and oropharynx over the airway, reducing oxygen intake, and compromising long-term health," he said.

13 things that wealthy people never waste their money on

Poker Night 0964

  • Despite having the money, rich people don't spend their time browsing through luxury brands or splurging on impulse buys.
  • Having multiple credit cards is seen as more of a hassle, so the wealthy usually stick to one.
  • Many wealthy families don't believe in inheritances because it can be seen as handouts, and they prefer their children earning their money the old-fashioned way.

Wealthy people can buy anything and everything they want, right? While that might be true, it doesn't mean the rich are out there dropping dollar bills left and right. In fact, they can be quite frugal. These are some of the things they never buy.

Impulse buys

Sure, it might be enticing to snag the cashmere sweater in the store window or the newest car on the lot. But making a purchase on a whim is something you will never see a wealthy person do. "If you buy things you do not need," billionaire investor Warren Buffet told Forbes, "soon you will have to sell things you need." It doesn't mean millionaires don't buy lavish items, they just put thought into them and their bottom line before swiping their credit card. Here are 13 nearly effortless ways to be more thrifty.

Extreme inheritances

It's fantasy to think we can all leave a mountain of money to our children and grandchildren, so they don't have to budget as we did. But large inheritances are something rich people don't use their money for. Why? Well, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg both said they want their children to find their way rather than relying on a handout, according to CNBC. Instead, both billionaires are giving significant portions of their fortunes to charity to help those who need it most.

TV channels and video games

Rich people didn't amass their fortune sitting around staring at a screen all day. That's why they don't waste money on jumbo TV packages or the latest video games. According to 2015 data from Nielsen, adults in households with annual incomes below $25,000 spent considerably more time-consuming media (through TV, video games, or radio), compared to adults in households with annual incomes over $75,000. “We expected high-income households to own more devices, but we did not anticipate that low-income consumers of all devices had greater usage,” says Glenn Enoch, Nielson's SVP of Audience Insights. To get more money in the bank, follow these 17 habits of people who are great at saving money.

The $10 Battle Pass in 'Fortnite' is a worthwhile addition to an already great game — here's why

"Fortnite" is a free game — stop wondering.

Fortnite (mobile)

There's a paid version of it, and you can buy stuff in it, but it costs nothing to jump into the game's wildly popular "Battle Royale" mode that pits 100 players against each other in a fight to the death.

If you are going to buy something in "Fortnite"— or you want to give a "Fortnite" fanatic a great gift — there's one item that's more important than anything else: the so-called "Battle Pass," which costs roughly $10.

Here's why it's such a crucial item.

SEE ALSO: There's a simple, obvious reason 'Fortnite' is the biggest game in the world right now

DON'T MISS: 15 tips and tricks to play and win at Fortnite Battle Royale, the most popular game in the world right now

1. The Battle Pass makes "Fortnite" into a much more rewarding experience.

The draw of "Fortnite" is the game's "Battle Royale" mode, no doubt, but part of what keeps people playing is the game's progression system. The more you play the game, the more stuff you unlock for your character — outfits, dances, and a variety of other cosmetic inanity.

Crucially, none of these unlocks offer a competitive advantage.

They're intended as a fun addition — for personalizing your avatar, and showing off a bit. Maybe you've got a rare backpack, for instance! Experienced players will know it's something you could only get by playing a ton of the game, or mastering a specific challenge, or whatever else.

By buying the Battle Pass, the game's progression system instantly becomes more complex and rewarding. You'll unlock far more stuff in a far shorter period of time, and the stuff is also much better.

2. Better still: There are a ton of challenges to complete with the Battle Pass, which turns the game into something much more interesting.

In buying the Battle Pass, you unlock Battle Pass challenges, which are lengthy lists of objectives that turn each round of "Fortnite" into something different.

Tired of trying (and likely failing) to reach first place? Why not tackle some challenges!

Go collect the letters that spell out "Fortnite," for instance, or loot eight different chests in Tilted Towers — whatever the objective may be, however silly.

It's a subtle layer of additional objectives, and one you could fully ignore, but why would you? It's a ton of fun, and it's a nice additional push that keeps me playing.

Even if you're not interested in tackling specific objectives, it's entirely likely you'll accidentally complete some just by playing the game. Often, challenges are as simple as, "Kill two players using shotguns."— the kind of thing you're likely to do in the course of play.

Thus: Having the Battle Pass is a worthwhile purchase even if you're not interested in tackling side objectives.

3. The stuff you get is beyond worth the $10 asking price for the Battle Pass.

You can buy some pretty swanky stuff for your avatar in the "Fortnite" digital store.

A definitive ranking of the funniest characters in the Marvel universe

$
0
0

peter parker spider man

  • Many of the Marvel characters are known for their one-liners and these are some of the best of the best.
  • Shuri's line "Don't scare me like that, colonizer" is one of the most iconic from "Black Panther."
  • Drax from "Guardians of the Galaxy" and his inability to understand jokes is what makes him the funniest character.

Marvel's superhero universe has been dealing with some fairly serious events of late, but that hasn't stopped them from using a little humor to lighten the mood. In fact, the entire cinematic universe is pretty damn funny. From the first moments that a sarcastic Tony Stark introduced us to the MCU, we've been laughing as much as we've been cheering at the heroics of our favorite superheroes.

With Phase Three of the MCU now heading toward its finale, and the vast majority of the characters having been introduced, it's time to review the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and decide just who the funniest person really is. Here's the CinemaBlend ranking of the 10 funniest Marvel heroes.

10. Captain America

Steve Rogers certainly isn't funny in the way that most people on this list are. He's not a guy who has one-liners at the ready to fire off like an Iron Man missile barrage. However, Captain America is just so damn earnest that he ends up being unintentionally funny. Most recently, this was Cap's introduction to Groot in "Avengers: Infinity War," that had the red white and blue boy scout introducing himself by saying "I am... Steve Rogers" like he was saying "I come in peace." In addition, we have the endlessly memeable "I understood that reference" moment from the first "Avengers" movie. Steve doesn't know how funny he is, which is why he's so damn funny.

9. Rocket

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies are, by design, funnier than most of the rest of the MCU, and yes, most of the members are on this list. Rocket became a fan favorite early on thanks to his excessive love of violence (only the in the funniest way, of course), and his unexplainable desire to take possession of other people's body parts. He has Peter Quill steal a guy's artificial leg in prison, ostensibly because it is needed for the escape plan, only to discover later it was just something Rocket thought would be funny. He has vowed to get the Winter Soldier's new arm. We'll have to wait and see what comes of that.

8. Scott Lang/Ant-Man

When you let Paul Rudd be funny, you're playing to his strengths, and he's the main reason "Ant-Man" is an underrated Marvel movie. He plays the hero well, but he's the most "fish out of water" of any of the MCU's main characters, which opened up plenty of opportunities for him to be silly in "Ant-Man" as well as "Captain America: Civil War." Listening to Scott Lang crash into a door is never not funny. Hopefully, he'll get even more chances to be hilarious in the upcoming "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Also, special shoutout hero to Luis (Michael Pena), who isn't a Marvel hero, but is just damn hilarious.
