hellmanns best foods

You know that some of the words we use in America are translated differently in other countries — the word "hall" in America is sometimes called a "corridor" in England — but did you know that some of the biggest brands masquerade behind other monikers, too?

Whether because of language laws, trademark issues, or franchising, the following 15 food brands go by multiple names depending on which region you're eating them in.

Keep reading to see what your favorite food is called abroad.

KFC is called PFK in Quebec, Canada.

Popular fried chicken chain KFC doesn't go by "PFK" in Quebec, Canada just for fun. In accordance with Section 63 of Quebec's French Language Charter — which states that the name of an enterprise must be in French— the fast food franchise changed its name to PFK, or "Poulet Frit Kentucky."

3 Musketeers are called Milky Ways in Europe...

Both candy bars feature fluffy, whipped nougat enveloped in chocolate.

But American Milky Ways are called Mars Bars in Europe.

The American Milky Way bar was first released in 1923; many believe the bar was named after the solar system, but its moniker actually stemmed from a popular drink called malted milk.

Nintendo has 4 new Pokémon games coming to the Switch, and the first is available now for free — here's everything we know (NTDOY)

The long wait is over: There's a brand new Pokémon game available on Nintendo's Switch right now.

Pokémon Quest

Admittedly, "Pokémon Quest" may not have been the Pokémon game that Nintendo Switch owners were expecting.

Given that Nintendo already announced that a "core" Pokémon game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, it was a major surprise on Tuesday night when the Japanese game giant announced three new Pokémon games

To be clear, those three new games are in addition to the still-in-development core game (that's now expected in the second half of 2019). That game, whenever it launches, is expected to usher in the first new "generation" of Pokémon since "Pokémon Sun & Moon" came out in late 2016.

Meanwhile, the first game of the newly-announced bunch, "Pokémon Quest," is already available on the Nintendo Switch. Later this year, we're getting "Pokémon: Let's Go," a remake of 1999's "Pokémon Yellow." In true series fashion, "Let's Go Pokémon" will come in two different versions, starring mascot monsters Pikachu and Eevee.

Here's everything we know about Pokémon's huge future on Nintendo's wildly popular Switch:

Nintendo has four Pokémon games headed to the Switch, with the first available right now.

In an event in Tokyo this week, The Pokémon Company revealed a trio of new Pokémon games headed to the wildly popular Nintendo Switch.

-"Pokémon Quest" (available now, for free)
-"Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!" and "Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!" (available on November 16, for $60 each)

The fourth game — an unnamed "core" Pokémon game, first announced last year — is currently in development. It's scheduled for launch in the second half of 2019.

The first game to launch, "Pokémon Quest," isn't a typical Pokémon game. But it is pretty good!

In "Pokémon Quest," players cultivate a home base of wild Pokémon with which to take on hordes of enemy Pokémon in various — you guessed it! — quests

Well, that's not entirely accurate. There are indeed quests in the game, but the main thrust of it is leveling up your group of fighting Pokémon by winning battles and collecting loot. Since the game is "free to start," there are options built in to buy in-game currency with real money, which can then be used for virtual items in the game.

That said, in the time I spent with "Pokémon Quest" this morning, I have mostly positive things to say. It's certainly not a traditional Pokémon game, but it sure is immediately fun. Battles are simple at first, but ramp up in difficulty quickly; you'll need tactical thinking if you want to win consistently.

It looks and plays like a good mobile game, which makes sense — "Pokémon Quest" is headed to iPhone and Android in June.

Take a look at "Pokémon Quest" right here:

The best board shorts you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

boardshortsmen

The Insider Pick:

  • We’ve tested nearly a dozen board shorts, and researched many more. After wearing them both in and out of the water, Patagonia’s Stretch Planing Board Shorts win our praise for being lightweight, unrestrictive yet sleek, affordable, and the quickest drying pair we tested.

Shopping for a pair of men’s board shorts is a notoriously cringeworthy affair. They’re often hideously flashy, baggy, long, or all of the above, and many are designed for little more than lounging around the pool deck. But alas, gentlemen, the line between board shorts and swim trunks is blurring.

Of all the board shorts we’ve tested and researched, Patagonia’s Stretch Planing Board Shorts are our favorite. They’re paper-thin, unbelievably quick-drying, and will accommodate most sunbathers and water sport enthusiasts alike.

Not everyone requires a surf-friendly board short, however. We took that into consideration and picked out alternatives for everyone, including those of you who want to migrate from the beach to the bar without having to don a pair of shorts with rash-inducing mesh linings, or change out of — and tote along — sopping wet trunks.

We also hand-picked a pair of shorter, more traditional mid-length board shorts as well as a newer, trendier short-length board shorts, which are like traditional trunks, but with a quick-drying material, no elastic waistband, and no uncomfortable mesh lining.

Throughout this buying guide, we’ve kept stretchiness, functionality, style, comfort, and drying speed in mind, as those are the factors we find integral to any good pair of board shorts.

Here are our top picks for the best board shorts:

Read on in the slides below to check out our new picks.

The best all-around board shorts

Why you'll love them: Patagonia’s Stretch Planing board shorts are paper-light, impressively quick-drying, and while they're still bona fide board shorts, they sit just above the knee.

Although other swim shorts are finally giving traditionally unflattering board shorts a run for their money (thank goodness), we like Patagonia’s Stretch Planing board shorts best for most aquatic activities. They’re utilitarian board shorts, a subtle hybrid between a trunk and a short, sitting just above the knee with a shorter, slimmer profile than most other board shorts.

Whether surfing, kayaking, or taking a casual dip while sunbathing before a night on the town, I’ve yet to find a more comfortable and ergonomic trunk or short. They’re arguably sleek enough to pull off at the bar afterward — they’ll certainly dry in time — and the single pocket is spacious enough for most smartphones, with room to spare for a wallet and set of keys.

I’ve had mine for over a year now, and I’ve worn them everywhere from the beach to the boat, and just about everywhere in between. I’m slightly at odds with veteran surf gear tester Chris Dixon at Wirecutter, who passes on these shorts for the baggier, stretchier Wavefarer Stretch board shorts as a surfing and all-around option.

However, professional surfer Keith Malloy swears by — and even sleeps — in them. Being so lightweight, they pack well and win points for the traveler, too, folding tidily into their own pocket. In short: I’d live in them if I could.

Pros: Lightweight, quick-drying, low-profile, and travel-friendly

Cons: Only one pocket, and probably not the most durable or tear-resistant pair of swim shorts, but I haven’t had any trouble yet!

The best board shorts for surfing

Why you’ll love them: Patagonia’s 21-inch Stretch Wavefarer board shorts sit just at or below the knee, offering your thighs just enough protection from sunburn and chafing against your surfboard.

While slightly baggier and less styled than Patagonia’s Stretch Planing board shorts, the Wavefarer Stretch sit just at the knee, if not a tad below on some people. This may not make them the most fashionable shorts on our list — or the most comfortable for a seaside stroll —but they do offer optimal protection from sun and chafing for long days in the sun and salt.

Outside and Wirecutter both swear by them for surfing, and I’ve had multiple pairs for over two years, wearing them everywhere from the surf and sailboat to the street — well, certain streets.

These shorts are longer than I’d generally like an all-around board short to be, but they’re designed that way with good purpose, and come along with 50+ UPF sun protection. It’s almost impossible to keep even the most zinc-laden sunscreen from rubbing off on the rail of your surfboard, and in the tropical sun, that can spell disaster, and shy of a box jellyfish sting or a shark bite, there are few things that will terminate a surf trip quicker.

The bottom line is, if you’re going to spend hours a day surfing in the summer sun (and especially the tropics), it’s worth forgoing a modicum of fashion for function, and Patagonia’s 21-inch Stretch Wavefarers are hardly a compromise where most are concerned.

Pros: Four-way stretch, drawstring lies flat for comfortable paddling, quick-drying

Cons: More functional than stylish, According to one REI user review, these shorts might lose their luster after a few dips in a swimming pool, though that hasn’t been the case for me.

Buy the Patagonia 21-inch Stretch Wavefarer Board Shorts for $34-$69 on Patagonia — (price varies by color)

The best hybrid board shorts

Why you’ll love them: Patagonia’s Stretch Wavefarer Walk Shorts are sleek, subtle, quick-drying, and come along with belt loops and four pockets, which make them passable in town after a day in, on, or around the water.

Patagonia’s Stretch Wavefarer Walk Shorts are essentially a spruced up version of the Stretch Wavefarer board shorts, but with belt loops and pockets that make them passable, at least at a distance, for khakis. They’re also an inch shorter, which leaves them safely above the knee, giving off a sleeker silhouette in contrast to most board shorts and hybrid shorts alike.

That said, Patagonia still manages to sneak in an interior bartacked drawstring, which is essential for the surf, where a simple button will not necessarily prevent indecent exposure. They also offer the same four-way stretch technology that the other Wavefarers have, and the pockets are mesh (though it would require a scrupulous eye to note this minor detail on terra firma).

I also like that these shorts are even lighter (1.1 oz) than the Wavefarer board shorts, though they still come along with the water-repellent and 50+ UPF sun protection finish. The only compromise for the surf enthusiast is the button, which some may find uncomfortable, and the open pockets which, although mesh and quick to drain, create some drag in the water.

Pros: Belt loops for dressing up after the beach, if need be, a hidden drawstring, four full pockets, quick-drying, lightweight

Cons: Button might be uncomfortable for some, drag from open pockets

There's no better way to cool off on a hot summer day than by spending an afternoon at a water park.

To find the best aquatic escapes in America, INSIDER consulted the 2017 Theme Index, a study compiled by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and the engineering firm AECOM on the most-attended theme parks, water parks, and museums around the world. We also looked at top-rated water parks on TripAdvisor, including individual reviews and the 2017 Travelers' Choice list of the 25 best water parks in the US.

From Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, which topped the TEA/AECOM and Travelers' Choice rankings, to under-the-radar destinations like Oregon's North Clackamas Aquatic Park, read on to learn about the best water park in every state.

ALABAMA: Spring Valley Beach in Blountsville

Located an hour north of Birmingham, Spring Valley Beach is an affordable place for family fun, according to TripAdvisor users. The water park's kids' area boasts a two-acre pool, one of the largest in the Southeast.

Spring Valley Beach also features exhilarating water slides, such as the 58-foot-high 360 Rush slide, which launches riders in pairs, and the Sidewinder, which catapults thrill-seekers from a four-story tower.

ALASKA: H20asis Indoor Waterpark in Anchorage

H20asis describes itself as "Alaska's largest indoor waterpark." Offering a 575-foot lazy river and a pirate-themed kids' play area, among many other things, this park is a balmy respite from the chill of the Last Frontier.

Andrew Lincoln is reportedly leaving 'The Walking Dead' — here are 9 ways he could be written off the show

rick the walking dead 802

Warning: There are comic spoilers for AMC's "The Walking Dead" ahead along with potential show spoilers.

The days of the Ricktatorship on "The Walking Dead" may be coming to a close.

Multiple outlets have reported the show's main star, Andrew Lincoln, will leave the show after season nine

Lincoln, who has played the no-nonsense sheriff Rick Grimes since season one, has said he wants to stay on the show long enough to see his story-arc come to a close.

"There's part of me that really wants to complete something," Lincoln told ComicBook.com in April. "How long that takes? I don't know but certainly I really think the fans and my character deserves an end point as some time in the future."

How will Rick go? INSIDER rounded up possible ways Grimes could leave the show. And not every scenario has the Alexandria leader dying.

Negan kills Rick.

Negan looked like he was ready to work with Rick on the season eight finale when he told him Carl wanted the two of them together. Negan had a real soft spot for Carl, but then Rick went and violently slashed his throat.

Would you be happy about that? It wouldn't be crazy if Negan wanted to exact some vengeance on Rick or teach him

As Negan pointed out to Rick last season, he winds up putting his people in danger more often than saving them

"Do not let any more of your s--- decisions cost you to lose anyone else you love. That garbage, it sticks with you, forever, just like Carl will," Negan tells Rick.

This would be a complete departure from the comics in which the two wind up with one of the most interesting (and humorous) relationships on the show where one cannot survive without the other.

The show's next big villains take out Rick.

The Whisperers — a group that travels around disguised as the undead — make a huge entrance in the comic series.

They appear not too far in the future and kill multiple members of the community, including Ezekiel and Rosita. The deaths are revealed by showing the heads savagely placed on spikes.

Imagine if the show takes that concept and changes up the characters who gets killed. We've already seen the fence posts teased on the season eight finale. This would be a huge, shocking way for Rick to go out and honestly it would be one that would really rattle the fandom if the show chose to pick off a few big names in one fell swoop.

Heath returns and takes Rick out.

It's no secret that Heath (Corey Hawkins) is just hanging out somewhere in the zombie apocalypse. Former showrunner Scott M. Gimple has said we have not seen the last of the character.

In the comics, Heath becomes a close ally and friend of Rick's. But during his short time on the show, he quickly became skeptical of how Rick was running things. The last time we saw Heath alive on season seven, episode six, he essentially told Tara that Rick’s group has lost their humanity and that no one is surviving together anymore. It’s every man for himself.

If Rick runs into Heath again, it may not be a warm welcome, especially since the group never went searching for their missing pal.

The only thing that would make me more excited is if Heath shows up as the leader of the Whisperers.

5 things you may be wasting your money on

Money

  • Sometimes we waste money on things we don’t need without even realizing.
  • It can be difficult to spot things that are wasting cash because an item’s affordability is subjective based on situation and personal preferences.
  • Here are five things that may be a waste of your money.

People often talk about personal finance in terms of large money decisions, like deciding whether to buy a home or creating long-term savings goals. But over time, the little financial decisions, many of which occur on a daily basis, matter too. And it can be hard to know where to draw the line between needs, wants, and wastes.

When it comes to purchases, waste is anything that you don’t get any benefit from or use, Jennifer Faherty, a New Jersey-based certified financial planner, told Business Insider. According to Faherty, you can avoid wasteful purchases by doing the following:

  1. Figure out how much money you can allocate towards discretionary spending
  2. Make sure each purchase fits into your spending plan
  3. Ensure you need and will use each purchase
  4. Determine the value each purchase would provide you, given personal preferences and lifestyle

To help you find and fix money drains in your spending habits, here are five things Faherty says are common wastes of cash:

SEE ALSO: I'm a 25-year-old millennial newlywed who just bought my first home — here's how I make and spend my money

1. Duplicates

“Oftentimes people spend money on things that they already have in the house,” Faherty said. “It happens more than you think, especially with couples who are just starting out." This could be small items, like food or cooking implements, or something more expensive, like clothing. It happens because people aren't organized, she said.

Periodically going through your closet and storage areas and checking the pantry before you leave the house to go grocery shopping are key to saving money.

2. Anything that's overpriced

According to Faherty, you may be wasting your money if you could have gotten the same item at a lower cost just by shopping around. But it depends on your situation.

Calculating the financial value of your time can help you decide whether it's worth it, for example, to visit several different stores looking for the best price on an item. How much is that extra hour of driving/shopping worth to you?

Sometimes it's fine to skip shopping around, "because time is money," Faherty said. “But if you can infuse some planning into it, then you can save on some costs."

3. Brand-name groceries

Faherty said this is up to your discretion, provided that you derive some value out of using brand-name groceries and can afford to buy them.

Some people are very brand-loyal when it comes to their favorite cookies or yogurt, but will buy store-brand canned goods or frozen veggies.

Just make sure that you have your top financial priorities, like a retirement savings plan and paying down debt, in order before regularly splurging.

10 reasons you should buy a Windows PC instead of an Apple Mac

$
0

huawei matebook pro x

Those Mac computers sure look good, and they work great, too.

But Macs don't suit everyone, especially when it comes to price tags and certain people who need extra power and customization.

Check out 10 reasons why you should consider a Windows PC over a Mac, then check out the 10 reasons why you should buy a Mac instead of a Windows PC to see which one fits your bill:

SEE ALSO: 10 reasons you should buy this $530 Android phone instead of the $1,000 iPhone X

1. You can get a Windows PC for much cheaper than a Mac.

The least expensive Mac computer you can buy is the $500 Mac Mini, but you can get ultra-basic Windows PCs for under $300 that will work just fine for basic tasks like running a web browser and other basic apps.

The same thing goes for laptops, too. The cheapest Mac laptop you can buy is the $1,000 MacBook Air, which isn't within everyone's budget for simple tasks like running a web browser and basic apps. Meanwhile, you can get Windows laptops under $600 that will handle basic tasks just fine.

2. There are far more Windows PC options to choose from.

Since Apple is the only company that makes its own Mac computers, you have fewer choices when it comes to designs and specs. Having fewer options can make it easier to pick a computer, but it doesn't always suit someone with more advanced requirements.

You don't get much choice when it comes to the processor and RAM with Macs, for example, which dictates how much power the computer has and how smoothly it'll run.

Also, Macs are often marketed as machines perfectly suited for professionals like photo and video editors, but you can buy Windows PCs that are far better suited for those types of professionals than any Mac.

3. You can easily switch out parts in Windows PCs and most laptops to customize them for your needs, or give them extra life.

Apple computers are less customizable than many Windows PCs and laptops. For many, the original hardware inside their Apple computers will work fine, and most probably don't want to tinker around with upgrading parts. But anyone who does want to tinker around will have limited options with Macs.

Plus, you can build your own PC with exactly the parts you want to meet your needs. It's surprisingly easy, not to mention satisfying.

You can build your own "Hackintosh" computer, but you're limited in what parts you can use, and macOS is a pain to update and maintain on computers that aren't made by Apple.

8 small exercise changes you can make every day to lose weight

Woman Running on Treadmill

  • Losing weight isn't easy, but there are small changes you can make daily to help.
  • Planning your daily agenda to include your workout, prioritizing strength training, and tracking your progress without using the scale are a few changes you can make to encourage weight loss.
  • Taking the stairs, parking further away, and mixing up your workout routine are a few small changes you can make daily to lose weight.

Losing weight is a difficult process for many. When it comes to working on getting the scale down, it's all too easy to get stuck on a plateau. You might feel like you're doing everything right, and yet you're not seeing any results. Or maybe you haven't begun your weight loss journey quite yet, but you're struggling to get things started.

Regardless of where you are in the process, these are small exercise changes you can make every day to lose weight and really see the impact.

Plan your daily agenda to include your workout.

Treat your workout as if it were an important meeting, you likely wouldn't miss or reschedule it, right?

Plan out your workouts for the week, or at least plan them out the night before. Pick the time that'll be best to set your “meeting,” and go ahead and pack your gym bag in advance, too. You're less likely to skip your workout if you're prepared and can't use not having enough time to pack your things in the morning, or having to go out of the way to run home between work and the gym as an excuse.

Prioritize lifting weights.

Many people think that in order to lose weight, cardio is the answer, but committing to endless hours on the elliptical each week isn't the best way to achieve weight loss. Instead, incorporate resistance training into your routine as this will help increase muscle mass, which in turn will increase your lean body mass and increase your metabolism at rest. Basically, the more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body will burn when doing nothing.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't do cardio at all, but rather it's worth prioritizing lifting weights.

American College of Sports Medicine cardio guidelines suggest performing at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity cardiovascular exercise per week. American College of Sports Medicine strength training guidelines encourage performing resistance training 2-3 times per week on non-consecutive days.

Make your meetings more active.

Many of us have meetings on a regular basis, some even daily. When possible, rather than meeting around a round table or over coffee, opt for activity.

Try going for a walk and discussing the content of your meeting, or standing rather than sitting for a conference call. These small changes if implemented daily, could encourage weight loss.

The 3 biggest money hurdles every relationship faces — and how to survive them

$

money

  • Money is one of the biggest relationship stressors and source of conflict in relationships.
  • The key to preventing money from derailing a relationship is to turn arguments into productive conversations about long-term and short-term spending and savings goals.
  • Here are three of the biggest money challenges Michelle Brownstein of Personal Capital says she sees couples face, and what you can do to survive them.

According to a national survey, over
three in four Americans say that finding love is more important than being wealthy. Romantic…right?

Romantic, yes, but realistic, no. Ask any couple what they fight about the most, and odds are money is high on the list. In fact, more than half (54%) of Americans say money is the biggest relationship stressor. Miscommunication over finances is a primary reason relationships — and marriages — fail.

The key to keeping money from derailing relationships new or old is to turn those potentially damaging arguments into productive conversations. As the vice president of private client services at Personal Capital, here are the three biggest money challenges I see in relationships, and the conversations that can help you survive them:

SEE ALSO: A relationship therapist explains the biggest reason money ruins marriages

1. Not having the “S” talk: spending & savings

I often see couples who talk about their plans for the future but avoid talking about how they’re going to pay for said future. It’s essential to get on the same financial page as your spouse. Understanding one another’s “money style,” starting with savings and spending patterns, is a necessary first step in achieving both short-term and long-term savings goals.

Partners should discuss what ‘savings’ means to them, and how they each typically approach building a budget. Since saving can only occur within the context of spending, it’s important to discuss what each other’s regular spending habits look like and how much of that spending is “needs”-driven rather than “wants”-driven.

Once there’s a baseline understanding of each other’s styles, it’s a lot easier to discuss the steps to achieving joint goals.

2. A bundle of joy – and a bundle of bills

Typically, when couples talk about expanding their families, they daydream about how many kids they’ll have, who their children might look like, and what names to give them. What’s less frequently discussed are the costs associated with raising a child: A middle-income married family will spend about $233,610 on one child from birth to age 17 — and that doesn’t even include the cost of college.

Couples should expand the conversation about the costs associated with having a family beyond the immediate needs of daycare, diapers, and baby equipment to include how they envision their child’s future: Private or public school? How will college be funded? What financial lessons and habits are important to pass on?

It’s important to remember that there aren’t right or wrong answers to any of these questions, and they don’t need to be solved all at once. But having conversations early and identifying where there may be differences in perspective allows more time to prepare for the areas of disagreement or to rearrange financial priorities as needed.

3. Renting vs. buying

Settling into a new home can bring couples closer together, but uninformed buying can tear relationships apart. There are two stages where couples most frequently fight about where to live and how to pay for it: early in the relationship, and when they approach retirement.

When making the decision to live together, outline all the expenses associated with renting versus buying. It’s important to be upfront and honest about personal history early on, including factors like debt and credit score. These will all come to the surface when applying for a home, so laying it out on the table will prevent conflict later on.

Remember, becoming a homeowner means a number of new expenses that don’t come into play when renting: mortgage, homeowner’s insurance, and property taxes, just to name a few. A good rule of thumb to consider when planning for costs is not to spend more than 28% of gross income on housing in any given month.

The rent versus buy conversation also surfaces for many couples approaching retirement. Outlining early what’s important for each partner when it comes to retirement lifestyles — from location and amenities to convenience and social circles — is crucial to finding a compromise that makes everyone happy.

Love should be about the heart, not the wallet, but even the strongest relationships will be tested by financial realities. Preparing for common financial challenges early can help couples focus on what matters: each other.

7 signs you're dating a narcissist, according to a clinical psychologist

Narcissistic personality disorder

  • Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a condition characterized by a severe lack of empathy for others, selfishness, and an excessive need for admiration.
  • It can be hard to spot some narcissistic qualities in the person you're dating.
  • An official diagnosis can only be done by a doctor, but there are some telltale signs that indicate someone could be a narcissist.

Your significant other brags seemingly 24/7, always knows the 'best' way to do everything, and can't handle criticism. Sound familiar? You may be dating a narcissist.

About 6% of the population has Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), which affects more men than women— 7.7% vs 4.8%, according to research published in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.

Business Insider spoke to Dr. Gene Beresin, executive director at The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital and Dr. Forrest Talley, a California-based clinical psychologist to identify warning signs that you may be dating someone with NPD.

An official diagnosis can only be done by a doctor, but here are a red flags to look our for:

SEE ALSO: How to know if you or someone you know is a narcissist, according to a clinical psychologist

They only like to talk about themselves

If you're dating someone extremely self absorbed, your date night conversation will most likely revolve around his or her achievements, success, and interests.

"The narcissist will often appear bored when talking about you, or change the subject to focus on them," Beresin said. "Sometimes they are good listeners, but only when it enhances their own needs and desires."

They want you to provide them with constant praise

Narcissists always want to be the center of attention and will expect their S.O. to acknowledge their achievements, talents, and appearance at all times. (Yes, even when you are at a social get-together.)

According to Beresin, your relationship may suffer if you don't dote on him or her. They may take offense if you show any sign of disapproval, disagree with what they say, or if you question how great they are.

They are demeaning towards other people

Egocentrics often obsess over the negative aspects of other peoples lives. Even their close friends and family members may not be spared from the judgment. Narcissists often think they can do a better job than others, which reinforces the belief that they are always right.

11 great TV shows ABC should bring back after canceling 'Roseanne'

ugly betty america ferrera abc

ABC has an open time slot to fill after canceling the "Roseanne" reboot. Network executives are reportedly still trying to reconfigure its Tuesday night lineup now that there's a hole in its programming schedule. New offerings from the network for the 2018-2019 season, admittedly, don't look amazing, but luckily ABC has plenty of options to choose from if it decides it wants to give the ghosts of programs past another chance.

Here are 11 shows that are worthy of another round the network.

"Alias" (2001 to 2006)

Five seasons of Jennifer Garner kicking butt as super-spy Sydney Bristow was simply not enough. The series, which helped Garner nab a Golden Globe in 2002, was never exactly a megahit in terms of ratings, but it developed a loyal enough fanbase that it spawned a video game and more than two dozen novels based on the series. It's perfect timing for a possible reboot since Garner has already planned her first return to TV since "Alias" ended in 2006.

Perhaps when she's done with HBO's limited series "Camping," she could be convinced to take on the role of Sydney again.

"Brothers and Sisters" (2006 to 2011)

There's nothing I want to see more than the Walker family in 2018. "Brothers and Sisters" aired for five seasons and was canceled before the show was able to properly say goodbye and offer viewers any closure. If ABC wanted to explore the dynamics of a family with different political views, rebooting "Brothers and Sisters" seems like the answer.

"Doogie Howser, M.D." (1989 to 1993)

Admittedly, too much time has passed for Neil Patrick Harris to believably play a teenage doctor again, but the viewing public loves medical shows, especially medical shows with a twist! Harris doesn't seem too keen on the idea of a reboot himself, but he may not feel as strongly if ABC actually comes knocking.

11 foods to eat when you have period cramps

foods to eat for period cramps

Periods are the worst, so it's totally understandable that you want to dive face-first into an entire chocolate cake when yours starts. Although it would definitely taste amazing right now, the sad news is that it won't actually help you physically feel better.

What you can do — besides stocking up on NSAIDs, or sewing a bunch of heating pads into a convenient robe and bingeing all the Netflix you can stand – is this: eating some foods that actually help.

Here's what you should stuff in your face to put those cramps in their place — as well as why. (Yes, there is chocolate involved. Read on.)

1. Drink more water.

Why it helps: If you're feeling bloated, you might not think that a big glass of H2O is the way to go. It might seem counter-intuitive, but chugging some water actually prevents your body from retaining water, according to Healthline.

If you're not a fan of drinking your water by itself, try eating some of the leafy greens or fruits elsewhere on this list — they contain plenty of water in a form you might find tastier. Also, warm or hot liquids can help soothe your cramps, so drinking your water in the form of the hot chamomile tea that's also on this list is a solid option.

2. Eat some salmon.

Why it helps: Salmon and other cold-water fish are rich in the type of fatty acids known as omega-3s. These help to reduce inflammation, which makes them good for general pain relief — including the pain of menstrual cramps, according to Everyday Health.

But there's more good news about salmon, too. Besides being a healthy source of protein, it's also an amazing dietary source of vitamins D and B6. According to Everyday Health, Vitamin D makes it possible for you to absorb calcium— something else that makes period pain more manageable. And vitamin B6 can help with the breast tenderness and irritability you might be experiencing along with your extremely painful cramps.

3. Chow on some dark, leafy greens.

Why they help: Losing blood every month also means you're losing iron— which can lead to feeling sluggish and lethargic.

A big, juicy burger or steak might seem particularly appealing right now if you eat meat — but dark, leafy greens like kale and spinach are also vitamin powerhouses that are great sources of iron. If you're getting tired of the leafy stuff, add some steamed broccoli for a crunchier contrast that also packs a beneficial nutritional punch.

best natural skincare

The Insider Pick:

Natural skincare has exploded over the past few years, as people become increasingly aware of all the chemicals they are putting on their skin. The rise in demand for natural skincare products means there is now a better selection of higher quality natural products available, so whether you are a die-hard natural beauty lover or simply want to detoxify your skincare routine, there’s plenty of great options for you.

Regular skincare products often contain potentially harmful chemicals that can be absorbed into your skin, so you should look for products that are formulated with natural ingredients and without chemicals. As there is no regulation about the term natural, you should be aware that even if a brand claims to be natural, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is true.

It is important to check the ingredients of products and watch out for parabens, phthalates, sulphates, and formaldehyde, as well as mineral oil, artificial fragrance, and silicones. You can also check the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database for more detail.

It is hard to know which are the best natural skincare products to incorporate in your daily skincare routine. So, to make your life easier, we’ve tested the best natural products on the market, checked ingredients, and researched hundreds of expert and buyer reviews to come up with our top picks for the best natural cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer with SPF, and night cream.

Here are our top picks for the best natural skincare products:

The best natural cleanser

Why you'll love it: If you’re looking for an effective but gentle natural cleanser that leaves skin glowing, the Acure Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel is a winner and a steal.

Acure's super gentle cleanser is packed with natural, organic, and safe non-toxic ingredients, such as pomegranate, blackberry, and Acai, which are designed to leave skin feeling refreshed and looking radiant. The Acure Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel has a low PH so it shouldn’t irritate your skin, either, which is great for anyone whose skin is overly sensitive.

Its naturally-derived fruity scent is divine, and in testing, I found the gel formula foams up nicely and leaves my skin feeling super clean and soft.

It’s not just me who loves the Acure Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel. It gets top marks on Rank and File and Byrdie, and gets great reviews from Amazon shoppers.

One happy customer writes, “My favorite facial cleanser! It has such a refreshing citrus scent that will really help to wake you up in the morning and it does not leave my skin feeling tight or dry. It is good at removing light makeup as well. A little goes a long way which makes this stuff a bargain! Clean ingredients and affordable to boot.”

Acure also has a great toner, serum, moisturizer, and night cream, so if you end up loving the Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel, we also recommend the company's other products.

Pros:  Great price, vegan, cruelty-free, free of potentially harmful chemicals, good for normal to oily skin

Cons: Not suitable for the eye area

Buy the Acure Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel from Amazon for $7.79 (originally $9.99)

The best natural toner

Why you'll love it: Simple but effective natural ingredients make Thayer’s Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Toner our favorite toner.

Thayer's simple and gentle alcohol-free skin toner is derived from a Native-American formula. It contains a list of easily recognizable natural ingredients, including certified organic Witch Hazel extract to tighten and smooth, Aloe Vera juice to moisturize, and rose water to soften the skin and give it a healthy glow. It also includes lots of Vitamin C, which is crucial for collagen production, strengthening skin cells, and fading blemishes and scars.

This toner is good for all skin types including sensitive skin and skin prone to acne. It can also be used as a cleanser. Although we chose the rose toner, Thayer's toner comes in Lavender, Cucumber, Aloe Vera, and Original scents as well.

In testing, Thayer’s Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Toner had a delicate rose scent and felt great on my sensitive skin. It comes in a big bottle so will last and last. It’s always great to find a natural product that’s effective and super cheap, and I now use it as part of my daily skincare routine.

It’s not only us who love this product, it is highly rated on Buzzfeed and Byrdie.

Pros: Multi-purpose, non-drying, good for all skin types, inexpensive

Cons: None

Buy the Thayer’s Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Toner from Target for $10.95

The best natural serum

Why you'll love it: If you want brighter, firmer skin, then the Eminence Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil is hard to beat.

Eminence's all-in-one serum packs a punch. It contains a powerful blend of natural and organic ingredients, including Rosehip Oil to alleviate redness, Vitamin C to brighten the complexion, and Vitamin E to combat free radicals. There are no parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, or other strange chemicals in the serum.

Dermatologists and beauty bloggers rave about Vitamin C serums because Vitamin C is a powerhouse that stimulates collagen production, reduces skin inflammations, and helps reduce the signs of aging. This particular serum uses a fat-soluble form of vitamin C, which is considered more easily absorbable than water-soluble forms.

I love the Eminence Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil. In testing, I found that you only need a couple of drops and it absorbs quickly. It felt light on my face, plus it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. My skin felt tighter and looked brighter straight away. It’s expensive, but it’s worth it.

It’s not just us who love this product, it is recommended by Skincare Ox and W Magazine. Dermstore shoppers give it 5 out of 5 stars, with one reviewer saying, “It is the best oil I’ve used thus far.”

Eminence also has a great cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and night cream so if you end up loving the Eminence Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil, we also recommend its other products.

Pros: Paraben-free, certified cruelty-free, suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin

Cons: Pricey

Buy the Eminence Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil from Dermstore for $110

Sugarcoat, mulligan, and 9 more words we can credit to US presidents

Dwight Eisenhower General Ike

  • US presidents have had a major impact on the English language.
  • Presidents from George Washington to Donald Trump have helped introduce words into our speech.
  • Some of the words presidents helped popularize include "mulligan,""sugarcoat," and even "OK."

For as long as the United States has existed, Americans have played close attention to what the president says.

So it's no surprise that presidents have had a huge impact on the English language itself.

Presidents are responsible for introducing millions of Americans to words that we now consider ordinary. Thomas Jefferson, for example, is responsible for bringing the word "pedicure" over from France, while Abraham Lincoln gifted us with "sugarcoat."

Meanwhile, the ubiquitous word "OK" has a lengthy history closely intertwined with our eighth president, Martin Van Buren.

Read on to discover the presidential origins of 11 common words we use today.

DON'T MISS: 8 common words you probably didn't know came from TV shows

Iffy — Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt began using the word "iffy" early in his presidency, and by virtually all accounts, he was the first known person to have used it.

That's according to Paul Dickson, the author of "Words from the White House," which tracked the influence US presidents have had on the English language.

Defined as "having many uncertain or unknown qualities or conditions," iffy was apparently a go-to word for Roosevelt when dismissing hypothetical questions from the press, like when he'd say, "that's an iffy question."

Mulligan — Dwight Eisenhower

Before Dwight Eisenhower came around, the word "mulligan" was rarely heard outside the golf course.

But according to Dickson, Eisenhower — an avid golfer — introduced the word to the masses in 1947 when he requested a mulligan in a round of golf that was being covered by reporters.

A mulligan is an extra stroke awarded after a bad shot, and it wouldn't be the last time Eisenhower was awarded one. In 1963, the former president was granted a mulligan as he was dedicating a golf course at the Air Force Academy, after his ceremonial first drive went straight up into the air.

Founding fathers — Warren G. Harding

Warren G. Harding is usually ranked among the worst American presidents, but he succeeded in popularizing a phrase that has become a staple of our political discourse.

The most famous instance came in 1918 when Harding, then an Ohio senator, said in a speech that "It is good to meet and drink at the fountains of wisdom inherited from the founding fathers of the Republic."

Before Harding, America's pioneers were typically known as the "framers." But Harding's punchy alliteration soon became the standard for decades to come.

How to find and use the new shopping cart in 'Fortnite: Battle Royale,' whether you're playing solo or with your friends

shopping carts, battle royale, fortnite

This week, the ever-changing world of "Fortnite: Battle Royale" got a new feature that is the first of its kind for the world's most popular video game: a shopping cart.

While several competing battle-royale games have allowed players to zip across the virtual islands with fast-moving vehicles like cars, motorcycles and even boats, in an effort to be the last man standing, the Fortnite developers have taken a unique approach with the shopping carts, which players can use to cross gaps, get away from enemies, and perform incredible stunts with the help of the game's ramp-building features.

Here's how to incorporate the new shopping carts into your eternal pursuit for that sweet, sweet Victory Royale:

SEE ALSO: A 'school shooter' video game has been removed from the biggest PC gaming platform, along with the person who made it

First, for those who haven't been keeping up with every update to the Fortnite map, players can now ride around the map in shopping carts. This is the first introduction of any type of fast-moving vehicle in the game.

Fortnite's lack of vehicles had previously helped set it apart from many other battle-royale games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or H1Z1, which allowed players to ride around in cars, boats or motorcycles.

The shopping carts seem to be scattered all throughout the map, but streamers and hardcore fans have found that they can most consistently be found on the race track, in the J-6 region of the map.

They've also been seen in Retail Row and Junk Junction.

To drive the shopping cart, simply walk up to the back of it and press equip, the same way you would if it were a weapon or other item. When you've equipped the cart, a list of controls will pop up on the left hand side of the screen.

The actual buttons used to switch positions, push, and abandon the cart will be different depending on what platform you're playing the game with (ie. Xbox, mobile, PC, etc.).

8 foods to add to your diet that can help with weight loss

Avocado toast

When you're trying to lose weight, it's easy to assume that cutting items out of your diet will provide the quickest path to your goal. But after speaking with a panel of nutritionists, INSIDER discovered that addition can be even more effective for weight loss than subtraction. For a quicker metabolism, an increase in vitamins and minerals, and a higher level of energy, consider adding these eight foods to your meal plan.

1. Cayenne pepper

Adding a dash of cayenne to your plate allows for bolder flavor, a punch of heat, and plenty of weight-loss-friendly side effects.

"Spicy cayenne pepper is a natural appetite suppressant," explained teacher and wellness consultant Vince Massara.

2. Avocado

Fretting over the fat content in avocados has become a regular occurrence, but these delicious fruits come packed with vitamins, minerals, and plenty of good fats.

"Avocados are so nutrient-dense and satisfying that including a few slices in your sandwich or salad will make you feel satiated and satisfied so you're not hungry. They're full of healthy omega-3 fats and fiber, which keep you fuller longer," New York-based dietician Laura Burak told INSIDER.

Because it's rich and texturally luxurious, avocado feels decadent without derailing your diet, making it an ideal addition to your pre-summer grocery list.

3. Coconut oil

Coconut oil includes beneficial compounds like MCT (medium chain triglycerides), which avoid the digestive tract after consumption and head straight for the liver, where they're instantly converted into energy.

"The more energy you have, the more calories you burn throughout the day, which leads to weight loss," NYC nurse and wellness coach Rebecca Lee advised.

9 people in open marriages reveal what their relationships are actually like

$

shameless kevin veronica svetlana

Open relationships are a point of fascination to most people who are not in one.

It's understandable. The concept of eternal monogamy tends to be enforced in most people from a young age. So when some people diverge from what is expected, it can lead to a lot of questions.

To answer some of these questions, people on Reddit who have had experiences with open marriages and relationships shared their stories. As the case with all relationships, everyone has very different experiences — and certain things seem to work better for some people than they do for others.

INSIDER was unable to independently authenticate all of these stories, but there's still a lot to learn from them.

1. It can help strengthen your bond with your main partner.

"I've been in two open relationships over the last six years and I gotta say they've been amazing! The trust and communication that open relationships cultivate is absolutely ideal.

We talk about everything when it comes to other hookups. I like it this way. I have some fetishes that my partner isn't into and I have the freedom to explore these with others and it's the same with my partner. I can't fulfill every need that they have, it's not practical but I don't believe my partner shouldn't be able to ful fil those needs just because I can't.

Why limit your experiences and connections to one person? Every single person has a different kind of sex, isn't it fun to experience them?

My partner and I have mind-bending, unimaginably good sex but we still want to experience all the different flavors out there.

At the end of the day, we always come home to each other and that's all that matters. I think we love each other more because of it." - Reddit user Gir2422

2. If you don't want a relationship, being the third can be a good experience.

"I am not in the relationship, but I am in a FWB [friends with benefits relationship] with a guy AND sometimes the girl in an open relationship. They have been together since high school, and we are all in our 30s now. They do have a kid together. I have been with one or the other, or both, but I have never even met the kid. If it's with both of them, they send the kid to a sitter and we go to their house. If it's one or the other, we either get a room or go to my place. It seems to work very well with them as long as the third party is cool with it. He has tried numerous girls over the years, but they always want more, or don't like the fact that his SO comes first. I don't want a relationship right now, so it works out great for me. (It's been going on for about seven years now, off and on)." - Reddit user Earthspirit

3. It's usually harder than a conventional relationship.

"[I'm a] guy who's dated a sizable number of women in open relationships/marriages.

For every stable, open relationship with solid rules that are adhered to very well, there are 10 more trainwrecks in action.

I've noticed some interesting patterns. Many times, the man initiates it, but the wife/girlfriend ends up getting way more [sex than the male partner], and it alters the dynamic of the relationship considerably.

The ones that seem more solid and lasting in the open state are the fully open ones. That is: Multiple full-on relationships, not just f---ing around. (I suspect that this is because both people are truly committed to the lifestyle, and not just satisfying urges.)

I've also noticed a lot more stability in relationships that aren't fully open where the openness has the rule where it's only open on mutual attendance. AKA swinging and threesomes, but not individual [affairs].

The reason the fail rate is so high is not because it's inherently ill-intentioned. It's just way harder than a normal relationship. You have to be super on point and self-aware at all times with your communication." - Reddit user TeaBurntMyTongue
