The 10 best hot dogs joints in the US, according to Yelp

Hot dog

  • Whether you're grilling in your backyard, hitting the local stand, or getting one at the ball park, summer is the time to enjoy a good hot dog.
  • Though you may consider yourself a grill master, it's likely your home-cooked hot dog doesn't live up to those available at these 10 hot dog eateries in the US.
  • The Chili Man in North Carolina specializes in the Naco Dog — a hot dog with with grilled cheddar cheese, chili and taco sauce.
  • Harley's in Littleton, Colorado, has endless creations, including the Death Vader — an "extremely spicy" brat covered with cheddar cheese and bacon — and the Toga Dog, which mixes gyro seasoning with beef and tzatziki.

Hot dogs are a time-honored summer snack for those who've been lounging at the beach or walking around in the heat all day. You may enjoy yours fresh off the barbecue, etched perfectly with charcoal grill marks, during the July 4th holiday. But plenty of eateries deliver hot dogs that take it up a notch, whether lavished with cream cheese or topped with sweet relish. (But please, no ketchup— at least if you're from Chicago.)

MONEY teamed up with Yelp to find the hottest places for a go-to dog. All the businesses on this list are in the "hot dogs" category on Yelp. "Best" is measured using an algorithm that looks at the number of reviews and star rating for a business; we included only one business per state, in order to ensure geographic diversity.

Here are the 10 best places in the nation to get a hot dog:

1. Chili Man

Charlotte, North Carolina

Chili Man holds the top spot in part due to its charismatic owner, Vic Werany. Regulars describe Werany as a “nut ball,” frequently wearing a Captain America T-shirt to work amid the bankers in downtown Charlotte. Charlotte Magazine named Werany the Charlottean of the Year last year for his help creating a nonprofit to support a neighbor with spina bifida.

Chili Man’s specialty hot dogs include the Naco Dog (part hot dog, part nacho, part taco) — a hot dog with with grilled cheddar cheese, chili and taco sauce. For all dogs, you can choose between beef, bratwurst or tofu dogs — price is $2.50 to $4.50, depending on the meat — and get unlimited toppings.

2. Wild Dogs

Benson, Arizona

Wild Dogs is a traditional diner-style hot dog joint in the small, southeast Arizona town of Benson. Wild Dogs uses Vienna beef hot dogs in creations like the traditional Chicago Dog, which comes with onion, relish, pickle spears, tomato and mustard for $4.99. Wild Dogs also offers the Best Deal meal: a basic hot dog, potato salad, “ranch beans” and a drink for just $4.39.

Wild Dogs also offers plenty of diner staples, including hamburgers starting at $4, hot sandwiches (like the BBQ Beef Brisket, served on a toasted roll for $7.50), and chili cheese baked potatoes for $3.99.

3. International House of Hot Dogs

Anchorage, Alaska

International House of Hot Dogs puts some special twists on typical wiener-in-bun concoction. Try the Alaskan Breeze, which gets you a Reindeer Polish dog with mayo, salsa and sauteed pineapple for $7.50 — or the Monte Cristo Dog, with strawberry jam and Swiss cheese for $7. Your pescatarian friends can skip the dog and try the Smoked Salmon Quesadilla, which wraps the fish, two types of cheese, and chipotle cream in a flour tortilla for $4.50.

The 3 most common languages in every New York City neighborhood

new york

  • New York City contains dozens of neighborhoods across its five boroughs: Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens, and the Bronx.
  • Residents of those neighborhoods speak an abundance of languages.
  • Using census data from the Minnesota Population Center, we found the three most commonly spoken languages in each neighborhood.

New York is a city of neighborhoods, and those neighborhoods have a diverse array of people from all over the world.

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey provides a picture of several demographic, economic, and social characteristics of the US population. One of the questions on the survey asks respondents which language they mainly speak at home. Using data from the Minnesota Population Center's 2011-2015 ACS Integrated Public Use Microdata Series, we found the top three languages spoken in each New York neighborhood.

For our working definition of neighborhood, we used the Census Bureau's Public Use Microdata Areas, which are designed to allow small-scale geographic analyses of individual-level ACS data. In New York, these areas mostly correspond to the city's community districts (or groups of two for areas with smaller populations), so they're a pretty good proxy for neighborhoods.

Here are the three most common languages spoken at home in each New York City neighborhood.

On NBC's "Meet the Press", Giuliani said Trump's longtime personal lawyer and former fixer Michael Cohen should feel free to cooperate with the special counsel and federal prosecutors investigating him.

Giuliani also lashed out at "the most corrupt investigation I have ever seen" and doubled down on requests for the special counsel Robert Mueller to provide a "factual basis" before Trump sits down for an interview.

Graham condemns North Korean leadership after tense comments from denuclearization meeting

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina condemned the actions of North Korean leaders on "Fox News Sunday" after fallout over a meeting on denuclearization with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"To our North Korean friends (I can't say the word friend yet),"Graham said. "You asked Pompeo 'Did he sleep well?' If you knew what I knew about what we could do to the leadership of North Korea, you wouldn't sleep very well."

Graham also said the ongoing trade war between the US and China could be the reason for tense relations.

"I see China's hands all over this," Graham told host Dana Perino. "We're in a fight with China."

Durbin says Trump administration has the resources to reunite migrant children with their families

Last week, the Trump administration requested more time from a federal judge to reunite some of the nearly 3,000 immigrant children who were separated from their parents in recent months under its "zero tolerance" policy.

Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois called the separated children a "convergence of cruelty and incompetence" and condemned the administration's request for a deadline extension.

The Democrat said the administration has "the resources to get it done," despite asking for an extension. "This is a policy of deterrence ... to be mean to these kids and their families."

Audi revealed what the inside of its Tesla challenger will look like, and it's impressive

Audi Etron

  • Audi revealed the interior of its 2020 E-Tron all-electric SUV at an event in Copenhagen last week.
  • The car showcases multiple cool features, notably a virtual side mirror system that replaces traditional mirrors sticking out of the sides of cars.
  • The car is expected to retail at $89,000 once it hits the market sometime next year.

Audi unveiled it's all-electric 2020 E-Tron SUV this week, a direct competitor to Tesla's Model Y car and the newest addition to a cross-over market that is expected to see a flood of new vehicles hit the market in the next year.

At a recent event in Copenhagen, Audi revealed details about the car and what the interior features of the E-Tron will include for drivers. The 2020 E-Tron is a three-motor all-wheel-drive electric SUV with 429 hp, the latest in a line of electric and hybrid cars that were originally developed by Audi in 2009

While the 2020 E-Tron SUV is undoubtedly impressive, one feature stood out: its virtual side mirror systems. Instead of having traditional side mirrors jutting off the car, the 2020 E-Tron boasts two small cameras (reducing the weight of the car's exterior and dramatically shrinking its width). The cameras then display live images of what's outside the car onto two seven-inch OLED screens snugly placed under the window and above the door handle on both the driver and passenger sides. The camera angles can be pre-programmed by the driver to help with merging into traffic, parallel parking, or making difficult turns.

U.S. regulators have not yet approved the camera technology, so as of right now the feature will only appear in European versions of the E-Tron.

Audi has indicated that the car will achieve 250 miles in the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and that it will only require 30 minutes to charge up to 200 miles worth of driving at a 150 kW station. Recent admissions by Nissan about the charging capacities by its own electric vehicle, the Leaf, have left some consumers skeptical of charging promises.

Back inside the driver's seat, the dashboard creates basically a virtual cockpit and showcases some cool stuff. There is a double-screen Multimedia Interface (MMI) system where the upper touchscreen handles navigation, music, and phone apps; the lower screen monitors climate controls for the driver and passengers. There are also a multitude of buttons on the steering wheel.

Additionally, the car features a 16-speaker, Bang & Olufsen-sourced 705-watt premium audio system which should be pleasantly amplified by the fact that Audi says it has sound-proofed the E-Tron's body so that wind and road noise are sealed off from disturbing the driver. All in all, it sounds like a pretty cool package.

The car is expected to be listed at a starting price of $89,000. Take a look inside at its high-tech interior.

SEE ALSO: We drove a $75,000 Audi Q7 and were blown away by its impressive features — here are the best ones

Audi's 2020 E-Tron cabin will combine luxury with technology.

Drivers and passengers alike are promised a smooth, energy efficient ride.

By far the coolest feature is virtual mirror display inside the car, one on each side.

6 easy ways to be more active on a daily basis — without stepping foot in a gym

$

joey friends weights

Physical health is important, but it can also be intimidating.

"I'm not a huge fan of [jumping head-first into fitness] because most people aren't built to do this," personal trainer Noam Tamir told INSIDER. "This is where you do a complete overhaul of your lifestyle. If you can, it can be very effective. However, you can also have a rebound effect in which you fall off the wagon and end up becoming more unhealthy than before because you feel you have failed."

Making the simple decision to be more active on a daily basis is an admirable step in the right direction — and there are manageable, realistic ways to make the process much smoother.

"Being fit is not a destination, it's a lifestyle," Tamir said. "I have had the best changes with myself and clients by addressing one to two things first and focusing on fixing those before moving onto making more changes."

INSIDER asked Tamir and celebrity trainer Justin Gelband— who has worked with numerous Victoria's Secret Angels, including Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel — to offer their top tips for improving fitness (without sweating it out for hours at the gym).

SEE ALSO: I tried the science-backed 7-minute fitness routine and was blown away by how well it works

1. Use a standing desk.

If you work in an office, you may notice that you feel stiff and sluggish at the end of the day. A standing desk could help change that.

"Being able to stand, you use so many more muscles than sitting," Tamir told INSIDER.

Indeed, according to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the longer you sit, the greater your risk of dying from associated complications and diagnoses. Being able to stand — or at least get up every 30 minutes or so to stretch and walk around — may lower your risk of early death.

Tamir also noted that standing promotes good posture, which can help reduce stress and tiredness, as well as encourage productivity and steady breathing, according to the HuffPost.

At the very least, Tamir said you should be "more aware of moving around during work. Don't stay seated the whole time."

2. Take the stairs.

Just as standing is better than sitting, walking is better than standing — and walking with an incline is even better. Tamir told INSIDER that he recommends skipping the elevator in favor of the stairs as much as possible.

Researchers at McMaster University found that just climbing the stairs for a mini-workout three times a week led to an improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness.

More simply, taking the stairs is an easy way to burn more calories and help tone leg muscles.

3. Engage your muscles in subtle ways throughout the day.

There are plenty of small, easy ways to engage your muscles that you can perform anywhere and anytime.

"You can get creative and do squats from your chair," Tamir told INSIDER. "Dips on your chair is another one that doesn't require you to move from your desk."

This tip isn't exclusive to office dwellers. You can do modified push-ups on the kitchen counter while you wait for your food to cook, for example. Even something as simple as standing on one leg while you brush your teeth will improve balance, which is essential to your overall health.

24 brands you probably didn't realize were owned by Amazon (AMZN)

Amazon Goodthreads

  • Amazon owns many private-label brands.
  • In fact, Amazon may own as many as 80 of the brands it carries, and according to Quartz, it has applied for more than 800 trademarks.
  • Some of these private labels are obviously owned by Amazon, like AmazonBasics, but others show very little indication that they're owned by the e-commerce giant.

Amazon owns many private-label brands.

In 2017, Quartz identified 19 brands that Amazon owns and reported that the e-commerce giant had applied for as many as 800 trademarks. In June, One Click Retail identified an additional five Amazon-owned brands and reported that the company may own as many as 80 of the brands it sells on its website.

Some of them are obviously Amazon-owned, like AmazonBasics. Others, however, are a little less in-your-face about being owned by Amazon.

Many of Amazon's private-label brands were started in niche categories like batteries or pet carriers, but lately, Amazon has been branching into categories that already have well-established leaders, like paper towels, which is led by Bounty. Though Amazon may not be able to beat out its competitors in these categories, private labels help to increase customer loyalty by making them exclusive to Amazon. Some of the private-label brands, such as Solimo, are even listed as being available exclusively to Prime members.

The products Amazon sells range from basic care items like cold medicine to tech accessories, fashion, and many other categories.

Here are some of Amazon's many private label brands:

couple arguing fight cheating

Getting broken up with is never exactly fun.

Still, most people would likely agree that there are some ways to make ending a relationship a little easier for everyone involved, as well as some ways that are ... not quite as kind.

In a Reddit thread, people discussed the worst breakup methods that have been used on them— and, in many cases, they are truly absurd. Like, "deciding that being the little spoon every now and then is too emasculating to maintain a relationship"-type absurd.

INSIDER was unable to independently verify these stories, but you'll still get a kick out of scrolling through them.

They thought the person was too "immortal."

"I dated a girl for one day. She broke up with me because in her words I was 'immortal.' I'm pretty certain she was going for 'immoral' but, hey, you take what you can get." - Reddit user Furiousdanny

They saw them kiss another girl ... who was their mother.

"In high school she broke up with me because she saw me kiss another girl on the cheek. It was my mom's cheek I kissed." - Reddit user Secondusernamechoice

They had to have the last word.

"A guy broke up with me that I wasn't aware of dating. We had dinner once. We spoke a handful of times via text but very short messages. Out of the blue, after a few months, I get a long message telling me he has to break up with me. We were both in our late 30s." - Reddit user MalinaRaven

How to avoid tick and mosquito bites this summer — a step-by-step guide

$
0
0

hawaii woman hiking cliff

  • Blood-sucking pests like ticks and mosquitoes can carry a host of diseases that can cause permanent harm or even death.
  • Taking steps to keep ticks and mosquitoes away can make your summer safer and more pleasant.
  • By using certain kinds of repellent, wearing the right clothes, taking precautions before you travel, and doing tick checks, you can keep yourself safe.

Nothing ruins a summer vacation like picking up a serious illness from a tick or mosquito.

There are plenty of reasons to spend time outdoors in the summer (and in any season, really), from afternoons in the park to camping trips. But when it's warm outside, pests like ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas are particularly active.

Those blood suckers aren't just annoying — they also carry serious diseases.

Mosquitoes can spread malaria, Zika, dengue, chikungunya, West Nile, and other illnesses. Ticks can spread well-known illnesses like Lyme Disease as well as other lesser-known but scary conditions like Powassan virus or an allergy to mammal products, especially red meat. In certain parts of the world, like the US Southwest or Madagascar, some fleas can still infect people with the plague.

Cases of many of these pest-borne diseases are on the rise, so it's worth doing everything you can to avoid getting infected. With a reasonable amount of preparation, you can cut down your risk of contracting a serious condition that could have a significant impact on your life.

Being aware of your risks, using the right products, and making sure to check yourself after being outside can make a big difference.

Here's how to keep the summer fun, active, and as pest-free as possible.

SEE ALSO: A single tick bite could put you at risk for at least 6 different diseases

If you're traveling or moving abroad, know about the diseases you can catch at your destination.

A trip to a new place — especially a tropical one — means that you can pick up any pathogens (disease-causing organisms) that live there.

The threat of Zika virus in many Caribbean and Latin American countries is still very real. Since that virus can cause birth defects, the CDC advises that pregnant women and couples considering pregnancy avoid traveling to those areas. (Partners need to be wary too, as the virus can be sexually transmitted).

There are plenty of other diseases it's important to be watchful for as well. In many of the places where Zika is actively transmitted, dengue and chikungunya — both viruses that can be extremely painful and dangerous — circulate, too. It's important to get vaccinated against the potentially deadly yellow fever virus before traveling to a risky area. And of course, malaria is still a major problem in many parts of the world.

Check the CDC's travel website for pre-travel advice and recommended precautions before embarking on a new adventure.

Know where you're most likely to pick up ticks or other pests.

Pests that carry dangerous diseases aren't always found while traveling — many can be picked up in your own backyard.

You're most likely to pick up ticks while walking through tall grass, especially near wooded or brushy areas. Stay in the center of trails, cover up vulnerable areas with clothes as much as possible, and do a thorough tick check after any time outside.

Ticks (which are technically arachnids, not insects) are some of the biggest threats in the US. Diseases spread by ticks are rapidly on the rise, with the CDC estimating that there are 300,000 Lyme disease infections in the US each year— eight to 10 times the number that gets reported.

Different types of ticks carry various diseases. Blacklegged or deer ticks can carry up to six pathogens; Lyme disease, which can cause joint and neurological problems, is the best known.

Lone Star ticks, meanwhile, can spread an allergy to red meat and mammal products. Other ticks carry other diseases as well.

Avoiding other pests requires different steps. Though cases of plague from fleas are rare, it's worth being wary of fleas near dead rodents in the southwest of the US.

Wear clothes that'll help protect your skin.

If you are going to be walking through the woods or in buggy regions anywhere, the easiest way to keep a mosquito or tick from reaching your skin is to make sure that skin isn't exposed in the first place.

Long pants, sleeves, and socks can help keep ticks from finding a patch of skin to bite.

Here's the biggest mistake Chipotle makes with its burritos

$
0
0

People love burritos. I love burritos. Who doesn't love burritos? In the US, that love mostly means Chipotle.

Chipotle

But here in New York City, there are dozens of burrito spots that are as good as — and often far better than — Chipotle. I'm not talking about fancy restaurants with Michelin stars.

I'm talking about places that do exactly the same thing that Chipotle does — fast meals at slightly-higher-than-fast-food prices — but much better than Chipotle. So-called fast-casual restaurants.

Eating at these burrito spots, you realize pretty quickly that Chipotle consistently makes the same mistake: treating the tortilla as a dump for food instead of a canvas for carefully laid out ingredients.

Put simply, Chipotle treats its bowls and its burritos identically, dumping ingredients into a pile in the center.

Chipotle portions

This results in an inconsistent, sloppy burrito-eating experience where one bite is all rice, another all beans, and a third results in something else entirely. Every bite is a surprise, and that's not a good thing. But what makes burritos so good is their combination of several delicious ingredients, all in one bite.

It's a disservice to customers and ingredients alike to put such little effort into the burrito-crafting process.

Thankfully, a local burrito shop named Dos Toros— 10 are scattered across Manhattan and Brooklyn — does things right. Having eaten there a few hundred times across the past several years, I can attest: Dos Toros makes a mean burrito. It's the closest I've come to a California-style burrito in NYC.

Most importantly, it's a well prepared burrito instead of a slop of ingredients forced into a burrito-shaped object.

Here, look at this:

Dos Toros

It may sound like quibbling, but this one small change makes all the difference in the world in crafting a delicious, perfectly balanced burrito.

Places like Dos Toros share a lot of similarities with Chipotle. A bunch of prepared ingredients are in a hot/cold prep area, waiting to be assembled.

Even the order of ingredient application is near identical. Like Chipotle, Dos Toros starts with rice and beans. But the similarities end there — look at how these beans and rice are laid out:

The rest of the ingredients are laid out in a similarly linear fashion. In this case, a generous portion of succulent, luscious carnitas is laid gingerly over the carefully placed foundation of rice and beans.

3 great TV shows to watch on Netflix this week

$

the sinner jessice bielWe're in the middle of the peak TV era, which means that there's more TV than there is time.

Thankfully we've made this easier. We know what it's like making huge decisions like what TV show to start on Netflix, so every week we gather a list of three shows we highly recommend.

Here, you'll find shows you can finish quickly, and some you can get started on. We mix shows that have recently come onto Netflix with some old favorites you might have not known were available.

From USA's murder mystery "The Sinner" to The CW's sometimes teen soap but mostly murder mystery "Riverdale," here are some great TV shows you can binge on Netflix this week.

"The Sinner"

Seasons: 1

Episodes: 8

"The Sinner" masterfully unfolds a mystery that is nearly impossible to figure out. Jessica Biel (in her best performance to date) suddenly stabs and kills a man on the beach. Throughout the series, secrets about her past are revealed in every episode. These secrets will leave you constantly changing your mind about all of the characters. This series was made for summer binge-watching, and has a solid ending that makes season two, which will feature a new story starring Carrie Coon, more promising.

"Riverdale"

Seasons: 2

Episodes: 35

Want something to watch while you cook or clean? If you're into glossy, cheesy but compelling teen drama that doesn't require much brain power, The CW's "Riverdale" is perfect for you. The characters are based on the Archie comics (Archie, Betty, Veronica, and many more) but they're in a modern setting, with lots of murder. Seriously. There is so much murder on this show, especially in its very bloody second season.

"Wild Wild Country"

Seasons: 1

Episodes: 6

"Wild Wild Country" tells a wild story from United States history and it has many jaw-dropping moments throughout every episode that you won't believe. You could watch an episode or two every night, but it's so enticing that you might get addicted and watch the entire thing in one sitting.

Airbus introduced a massive new cargo plane that looks like a whale and will play a key role in the company's future

Airbus Beluga XL

  • The Airbus Beluga cargo plane is tasked with transporting large sections of Airbus aircraft for final assembly.
  • The current fleet of five Airbus A300-600ST Belugas has been in service for 20 years.
  • Recently, Airbus introduced a larger, next-generation Beluga called the BelugaXL.
  • The BelugaXL is based on the Airbus A330-200 freighter and is expected to enter service in 2019.

Airbus and its many subsidiaries have come up with some wonderfully ambitious and interesting aircraft over the years. The double-decker A380 superjumbo is one example that comes to mind.

But the plane that really stands out is the Airbus Beluga. It's arguably one of the weirdest looking aircraft in the world.

The Beluga is a cargo plane designed to transport major sections of Airbus planes to its assembly plants in Toulouse, France and Hamburg, Germany from suppliers around Europe.

And by major sections, I mean pieces as large as the middle and rear fuselage of an Airbus A320 airliner or the wing of an A350 widebody.

In all fairness, Airbus also uses a fleet of barges and trucks to move components around Europe.

Recently, Airbus unveiled a new generation of its bulbous cargo planes called the BelugaXL.

It will take over for the current generation A300-600ST Beluga that has been in service for two decades.

The Beluga derives its name from the large aquatic mammal to which it bears a striking resemblance. In fact, the new BelugaXL is even painted to look like the animal.

According to Airbus, it decided to build the BelugaXL in November 2014 as a response to the greater transport and capacity requirements the company expects in the years beyond 2019.

Since it's based on the Airbus A330-200F freighter, the BelugaXL is larger, with greater cargo capacity, and is expected to deliver superior performance than its predecessor.

Here's a closer look at the Airbus Beluga and BelugaXL.

Airbus needs to move large numbers of components to its assembly plants in France and Germany. This includes whole sections of planes.

In the early days, Airbus used the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser-based Guppy transport planes.

Since the mid-1990s, Airbus has used an aircraft called the Beluga. It's based on the company's A300-600 airliner and its official name is the A300-600ST Beluga.

A list of the similarities between Silicon Valley and the Soviet Union went viral over the weekend

Soviet Union space posters

Silicon Valley has a tendency to be mocked — there's even an entire HBO comedy centered around the absurdities of living and working there.

But one Twitter user approached this subject in a new way: comparing the tech capital of the world to the former Soviet Union. Anton Troynikov created a Twitter thread on July 5 that quickly went viral over the weekend, making tongue-in-cheek comparisons between working for a tech giant like Tesla or Amazon and working in the USSR.

Here are some of the highlights:

'Living five adults to a two room apartment'

'Being told you are constructing utopia while the system crumbles around you'

"'Totally not illegal taxi' taxis by private citizens moonlighting to make ends meet"

Google's Chrome versus Firefox: A quick comparison of the two biggest web browsers

chrome vs firefox 2

My web browser of choice is Google's Chrome, but I'm always on the hunt for a better browser.

After all, it's the app I use most often on pretty much any computer. If a browser can perform faster and more efficiently that Chrome, I'd absolutely consider it.

Interestingly, Mozilla — the company behind the Firefox browser — makes some pretty enticing claims about its browser. One of those claims is that it uses 30% less RAM than Chrome, which is particularly interesting. It means that Chrome might not slow down my computer as much as Chrome does when I have a ton of open tabs.

Another tasty claim is that Firefox loads websites faster than Chrome.

I tried Firefox to see how well it stacks up against Chrome:

Design.

Above, Firefox is on the left, and Google Chrome is on the right.

Design-wise, both web browsers are pretty similar. Firefox has the edge for ease of use, however.

Things like a larger back button, customizable menu bars, and simpler setting options make Firefox more user-friendly overall.

Internet speeds.

I tested my internet speeds on both the popular speedtest.net and Google's own speed test, and both browsers showed similar results.

Which one slows your computer faster?

Mozilla touts that its Firefox browser uses 30% less of your computer's RAM than Chrome.

RAM is essentially your computer's short term memory where it stores apps that you're using for quick access. For browsers, more RAM on your computer means more browser tabs, add-ons, and extensions you can have without your computer slowing down. If your computer slows down and you're just running a web browser, chances are that web browser is eating up all your computer's RAM.

I found that Firefox uses more RAM than Chrome, which not only debunks Mozilla's claims in my basic test, but also comes at a huge surprise considering Chrome's reputation as a computer performance killer.

With this in mind, Firefox is likely to slow down your computer faster than Chrome.

For the sake of clarity, I started out with fresh versions of Chrome and Firefox and loaded the same websites on both browsers. I tried in on both Mac and Windows machines and still found that Firefox used more RAM than Chrome.

I've also tested this before when Mozilla first made the claim about its new Firefox browser in late 2017, and found the same result.

best clothes steamer

The Insider Pick:

Unwrinkled clothes simply improve your look, whether you’re trying to attract someone or score a job, but getting perfectly pressed clothes takes time and effort. By most standards of thinking, your options for fresh pressed clothes are to A) send your clothes out and have a laundromat or dry cleaner make them wrinkle-free, which can weigh down on your wallet quickly, or to B) bring out the ironing board and iron your clothes each day, which requires time as well as some level of skill. Luckily there’s a third, often-overlooked option: steaming.

Steaming clothes is a less complicated process than ironing that achieves equally wrinkle-free results. Steaming is the go-to choice in various professional industries such as fashion and broadcast where items may need to be packed up and moved often.

There are various types of garment steamers, but they all generally function the same way. Water is placed in a base or reservoir, heated to produce steam, and that steam is released through a wide nozzle which you hover over whatever it is you’re looking to de-wrinkle. Usually, pressure or direct contact with the wrinkled fabrics is not required as the high heat of the steam is what removes the wrinkles.

Steaming saves time, reduces wear and tear, is safe for nearly any fabric, sanitizes your clothes, helps you avoid chemicals, and best of all, steaming your clothes saves you money. That's why we've picked out the best clothes steamers you can buy.

We evaluated each of the following garment cleaning models by looking at the steam production, heat-up time, wrinkle removal efficacy, and durability. We referenced online recommendations from industry leaders, and sites that specialize in the cleaning of household industries, as well as Amazon rankings and customer reviews, and personal experience. Read on to find out which clothes steamer is best for your needs and budget.

The best clothes steamer overall

Why you'll love it: The PurSteam PS-910 Fabric Steamer produces perfect steam for 60 minutes to remove wrinkles from all your clothes.

The PurSteam PS-910 Heavy Duty Powerful Fabric Steamer accomplishes two vital tasks with perfection: It removes wrinkles and makes steaming easier. It’s Amazon's number one best-seller, plus it comes with a money-back guarantee and five-year warranty, so you know it’s made to last. While it's not a professional unit, it can handle a family’s worth of clothes with the 61-ounce tank that heats up in just under a minute and provides 60 minutes of stable steam.

The design is part of what makes this steamer so appealing. It has a handy, adjustable hanger that is expandable from 15 to 17 or 19 inches. That means no more holding up your clothes or searching for a hook just to steam. It also has clips to help hold other fabrics, such as small children’s clothing, pillowcases, and more in place. The hanger is collapsible and the top hanger part can be replaced with a brush hook which makes for easy storage.

It comes with a convenient handheld steam board to de-wrinkle collars, pockets, and sleeves, that also doubles as a crease attachment to provide a more polished, or what one might call dry-cleaned look that gives structure to collars, sleeves, plackets, hems, and other clothing areas where a completely steamed, flat finish would just appear odd.

It can handle delicate to heavy materials, as it provides steam up to 248 degrees Fahrenheit that penetrates deep and relaxes fibers. The high temperature means it works faster than ironing and allows it to freshens clothes killing up to 99.9% of germs. Finally, the cost is actually reasonable, especially compared to other standing steam steamers.

The PurSteam PS-910 Heavy Duty Powerful Fabric Steamer is featured in Parents Need, where the author notes it can even disinfect your carpet. It’s listed in Smart Home Guide and Best Advisor, too.

The PurSteam PS-910 Heavy Duty Powerful Fabric Steamer has a 4- out of 5-star average rating based on over 2,000 customer reviews. Many reviewers comment on the quality of the product, and its many uses, such as this reviewer. Others like all the features it comes with such as this reviewer who enjoys the steam board and this reviewer who says that the accessories are "wonderful.”

The critical reviews mostly center around the product not having a consistent flow stream, but it’s worth noting that on every critical review, there’s a response from Amazon or the manufacturer extending help information and offers to resolve the issue stated.

Pros: Reasonable price, quality customer service/guarantee, handy built-in hanger, steams for 60 consecutive minutes, convenient add-ons and accessories, sanitizing features

Cons: May not provide a consistent steam flow

Buy the PurSteam PS-910 Heavy Duty Powerful Fabric Steamer on Amazon for $64.99 (originally $134.99)

The best handheld clothes steamer

Why you'll love it: Rowenta X-Cel Handheld Steamer emits powerful steam to make wrinkles disappear, plus, it's not too big.

Rowenta's X-Cel Handheld Steamer is a small, handheld steamer that's just the right size for anyone who needs to quickly steam some wrinkles out of tomorrow's suit, dress shirt, and tie. It's not a huge steamer, but it gets small jobs done quickly with little fuss.

The steamer emits 1500 Watts of steam for 10 minutes straight and heats up in about 40 to 45 seconds. The stainless steel head has several holes for even steam distribution, and it comes with fabric brush, lint pad, and steam bonnet attachments so you can steam any fabric without destroying it.

Because it's not overly large, Rowenta's steamer is easy to hold and fairly lightweight. I use it to steam my clothes on a regular basis and find it very easy to use. The water tank may be small, but I've never had trouble refilling it and I rarely use it for 10 minutes straight, so I've never exhausted the water supply mid-steam.

If you don't steam too many clothes or fabrics all at once and you want a small steamer that you can pack away at a moment's notice, this is it. Buyers at Bed Bath & Beyond give it mostly good reviews. — Malarie Gokey

Pros: Strong steam, small size, easy to hold, not too heavy

Cons: Pricey, small tank

Buy the Rowenta X-Cel handheld Garment and Fabric Steamer on Amazon for $69.95

The best affordable handheld clothes steamer

Why you'll love it: More powerful than a travel steamer but still mobile enough to carry, the URPOWER Garment Steamer eliminates wrinkles faster than your average iron.

The URPOWER Garment Steamer makes steaming anywhere a quick and easy process. The 1.2-pound device heats up and provides steam in only two minutes, yet with a 130-milliliter tank, it provides a constant steam for 7 to 10 minutes. This upgraded model has a new nozzle design that distributes steam more powerfully and consistently, making it easier to remove stubborn wrinkles. Whether you don’t have room for a heavy-duty steamer or simply prefer a lighter, portable design, this handheld steamer can remove wrinkles from clothes, as well as from cushions, beds, and other fabrics around the house.

Even if you’re new to steaming, you won’t have much trouble learning how to use this steamer. It conveniently features an automatic shut-off function when the unit gets too hot or the water level is too low, which protects your clothing, as well as the longevity of the unit, which already comes with a two-year warranty.

Because it measures 3.7-by-8.8-by-6.2 inches, it’s smaller than an iPad 2, so you could carry it around without much of a hassle in case your steaming needs take you out of your house. It comes with a handy travel pouch, too.

The URPOWER Garment Steamer is the number one best-seller on Amazon in both the Travel Garment Steamers and Garment Steamer categories. The steamer has a 4 out of 5-star rating in the Parents Need, is listed in BestSeekers, and is ranked number one in an AOL article.

On Amazon, the steamer has a 4.2 out of 5-star average rating based on 2,321 reviews, which include a handful of helpful video reviews. The majority of reviewers are impressed with the product, such as this one who states that the steamer pays for itself. Multiple reviewers comment that the steamer is smaller than expected. The critical reviews mainly state that the steamer doesn’t completely replace their iron as they hoped, or that it stopped working sooner than it should have.

Pros: Price, built-in safety features, easy to use, small enough it’s portable, upgraded nozzle design

Cons: May spit water occasionally, questionable longevity

Buy the URPOWER Garment Steamer on Amazon for $21.99 (originally $69.99)
