Airbnb Is Giving Customers A Chance To Spend A Night In A Tricked Out Airplane

Airbnb Airplane Loft

No one wants to be forced to spend the night at an airport.

The dreaded experience usually involves clinging to your luggage while trying to cram yourself into a tiny gate chair

But the new installment of Airbnb’s “Night At” campaign might just make you think differently.

Technically, you wouldn't be staying in the actual airport, but on the airport’s runway — in your very own private airplane apartment.

In Airbnb’s latest move to provide travelers with eccentric experiences, the company has teamed up with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines airlines to give three winners a chance to spend the night in an aircraft “loft.”

Unfortunately, the first house rule is “no flying.”

Airbnb Airplane Loft The dutch airline has transformed one of its jets into a temporary living space, and with the help from the design and branding firm TANK, the cabin has been transformed into a stylish “loft space.”

They filled a plane that was parked on the runway of the busy Schiphol Airport with all the amenities of an apartment. The plane now has a spacious living room, a master bedroom, two children’s beds, eight bathrooms, two kitchens, and even a home cinema (although the cinema will apparently only play films related to flying, so you might get stuck watching “Snakes On A Plane.”)

Airbnb Airplane Loft KLM asks that you “treat our plane like you treat your own plane.” Which means that the other house rules include: no marshmallow roasting with the jet engines, no smoking when the non-smoking sign is on, and the use of the inflatable emergency slide is strictly off limits.

The listing also asks that you kindly make sure to water the plants and feed the fish.

Airbnb Airplane Loft The plane has 116 windows through which you can watch other planes on the runway take off and land. The airplane apartment also has a a giant cockpit panorama window.

Airbnb Airplane Loft Only three winners will be picked to stay in this stylish aircraft loft. KLM will fly the winners out to Amsterdam, and they will be able to spend the nights of November 28, 29, and the 30th in the renovated jet.

Airbnb Airplane Loft This is just the latest in strange accommodations from Airbnb “Night At” campaign — previous listing include a chance to spend the night in one of Ikea’s fake homes, a historic French Châteaux, and one of London’s largest bookstores

dollar bill mint

Do you have a dollar bill in your wallet right now? Chances are, the answer is yes.

But did you know how much work went into creating that bill? It's likely more than you ever expected.

Hundreds of hours of labor go into making a dollar bill, from the special process used to create the paper it's printed on, to the printing, analyzing, cutting, packaging, and shipping to banks.

Each bill must be perfect, according to the US Department of Treasury's standards, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which is tasked with creating all paper money, goes to great lengths to meet its specifications.

Go behind the scenes at the BEP's Washington, DC facilities to see how dollars get made.

Dollar bills are printed in multiples on large sheets of special paper that is 75% cotton and 25% linen, created for more durability. Bills over $1 have red and blue strands woven in for security purposes. Dollar bills do not have this feature.

The image of the dollar bill is engraved onto giant steel plates. All physical monetary production is overseen by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which has printing facilities in Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas.

These sheets of soft steel are then curved slightly and bolted onto a printing cylinder. Ink is added and then wiped off, leaving only ink in the engraved, recessed areas of the plate. Around three tons of special ink are used a day.

How To Dress Like Silicon Valley's Elite

Marissa Mayer Yahoo

Silicon Valley is generally better known for its high tech than for its high fashion.

But while it's true that many startup founders are still sporting the casual hoodie look, others are raising the bar for style.

We've rounded up some tech executives who have their own signature sense of style. They all express themselves in different ways, though some are decidedly more fashionable than others.

Square CEO Jack Dorsey is considered by many to be one of the most stylish men in tech, regularly donning leather jackets and slim suits by Prada and Hermès. He's also grabbed attention with his Dior Homme reverse-collar dress shirts, a sort of stylish take on the popped collar. You can snag a similar style from Frank Michel's online store for $80.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg opts for a less avant-garde look. In a recent Q&A with Facebook users, Zuckerberg explained that he wears the same grey t-shirt every day because it allows him to keep his mind clear for bigger decisions. You can buy a similar one at Gap for $16.95.

Box CEO Aaron Levie typically sports a slim-cut J.Crew suit and Pumas or Tigers on his feet. You can find similar shoes for $60 on Zappos, which Levie has said "should get a Nobel Prize for awesomeness." The J. Crew blazer retails for $405.

Email Is Broken. These Apps Promise To Fix It

$

email sucksEverybody loves to complain about email. We get way too much of it, we can't tell what's important from what's not, we never have time to respond.

But all of a sudden, we're seeing a new round of efforts to fix it. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen new email apps from big players like IBM, Cisco, and Microsoft. They join some other efforts that have been around for a while, plus a bunch of startups that would like to kill email entirely.

Each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses. Some try to tame your inbox, others try to make it easier to

Whatever the case is, they all have one common goal: making email less painful.

IBM's Verse creates a one-stop destination for all communications

IBM released a free online email service called Verse on Tuesday. It is basically an email inbox with more social and analytics tools. For example, it can automatically prioritize emails based on data it collects from the user, and filter messages that it deems unimportant.

It can also show the full correspondence with a particular group or individual by analyzing other sources like instant messages and calendars, and even display the organizational chart of people included in email threads.

IBM says it also plans to add Watson, its analytics solution, to the platform so users could search for any particular topic and get answers immediately. It's free for now, and IBM will add a paid version with more storage and other bells and whistles in January.

Google’s Inbox makes email management a lot easier

Google’s Gmail team introduced a new app called Inbox last month. It can automatically bundle related messages together, while pulling in relevant information from the web for emails that need real-time information, like flight itineraries.

It also gives the option to “snooze” or “pin” certain messages, or even set up “reminder” emails that show up at the top of your inbox. Inbox is currently on beta and you can only add Gmail accounts to it.

Microsoft Office 365 cleans up a lot of “Clutter”

Microsoft’s Office 365 rolled out a new feature called Clutter this month that automatically sorts and prioritizes emails based on your previous actions.

Microsoft says it uses machine learning to determine what’s important, and stores all emails that it thinks are unimportant in a separate folder called Clutter. Users can move certain emails to the Clutter folder on their own and go into the folder and see if they missed anything important, too.

This feature is only available to Office 365’s business users.

Newark Airport Is Undergoing A Massive Renovation — Here's What It Will Look Like Inside

NewarkAirport3

It's about to get a lot more enjoyable to wait for a flight at Newark Liberty International Airport's United Terminal.

An ambitious new $120 million makeover plan of Terminal C by airport amenity manager OTG includes 55 new restaurants headed by celebrated chefs (see the list here), new retail spaces, and visual upgrades galore.

visualmenu

As part of the plan, OTG will be installing 6,000 new iPads so passengers can order from the fancy new menus. When passengers sit down at one the iPads, they scan their boarding pass or enter their United MileagePlus account number. The screen then shows updated flight information, which is always visible, even when the screen shifts to the food menus of the new restaurants.

Shopping is also possible from the iPads, and passengers can order travel amenities like ear buds or a neck pillow. Orders are expected to arrive at your seat in 15 minutes, and passengers can pay for both food and other items with either credit card or their MileagePlus award points.

For the tech obsessed, there will also be power outlets at every seat and over 10,000 in total.

Master architect David Rockwell's Rockwell Group, which has designed everything from the Academy Awards to restaurants, was behind over half of the spaces in the new terminal. According to Fast Company, this includes the "beer garden" with an intricate metal roof and an Italian-style cafe area with huge columns.

NewarkAirport1"We didn't really believe them when they said they wanted this," Rockwell told Fast Company. "We did something that was kind of out there and they said 'Well, we'd really like it to be incredible.' That's when I realized this is really about pushing the boundary of these airport spaces and making them [about] communalfood and art."

Renovations for the new restaurants have already started and existing restaurants will continue to close gradually so the spaces can be updated. The first new restaurants will be open for business in summer of 2015, with the whole project completed in 2016.

T. Rowe Price released its 2015 global market outlook.

The outlook is fairly neutral: nothing terrible is expected, but T. Rowe Price advises "investors to moderate their expectations for investment returns in the years ahead, despite the markets’ impressive resilience during the past 12 months."

The report also says to expect divergence in various markets globally.

"Coming out of the global financial crisis, economic healing has taken place at different paces in various markets around the world," said Bill Stromberg, head of equity of T. Rowe Price. "Stock prices in the U.S. have soared while they have lagged in Europe, Japan, and some emerging markets. We expect more volatility in 2015 and investors will need to be selective. Fundamental equity research and individual stock selection will be more important than ever."

Stromberg delivered his outlook with this 19-slide presentation.

Here's How Apple Can Save The iPad (AAPL)

$

marques brownlee ipad air 2

Apple's iPad is in the middle of a growth crisis.

Apple has already saturated the consumer market with its tablets, so it partnered with IBM to push business sales.

The iPad has what's called a long replacement cycle, meaning consumers aren't very motivated to upgrade to the latest iPad every time Apple releases one.

Some consumers are doing fine with their first-generation iPads!

But there are plenty of features Apple could add to the next iPad to boost sales.

From indestructible glass to a replaceable battery, we run through the features that could make the next iPad a game-changer.

Sapphire glass

We thought we'd see GT Advanced Technology's ultra-durable sapphire glass on the iPhone 6 display, but Apple only put it on the camera.

Sapphire is more scratch resistant than Corning's Gorilla Glass, which has been used on previous iPhone models.

We think the iPad could use a sapphire face-lift. That would easy companies' concerns about the tablet's durability.

Unfortunately, Apple's primary sapphire supplier filed for bankruptcy. Another company will have to get the job done.

A reversible USB charger

Introducing a reversible USB cable is a little thing that would improve the iPad user experience, especially for people who find themselves glued to their tablets.

Wireless charging

While we're on the topic of charging, wireless charging would be a major perk for the next iPad, just for the convenience factor.

The technology already exists, Apple just needs to scale it for the masses.

I Flew Business On Malaysia Airlines — And Here's Why It Was Awesome

Configuration?

Baggage?

All classes: 1 piece up to 32kg each

The crew?

While we didn’t have a designated flight attendant, all were welcoming and attentive. They helped you with things without you having to ask for assistance and remembered which wine you were drinking so that when your glass was close to empty they filled it.

Distractions?

You know the airline has great features when you don’t even have a chance to read the mag you picked up in the airport. The entertainment system had awesome new releases from A Million Ways to Die in the West to 22 Jump Street and Boyhood. But what had me most captivated was the food. Snack, starter, entrée, dinner, dessert. And just when you drift off to sleep in your food coma, thinking “how could I possibly have time to do anything else but eat?”, you wake up feeling rested and rejuvenated after a comfortable sleep.

Coming back?

It was a 7.30pm flight out of KL and after dinner, I slept well – and they let me sleep through breakfast, waking just in time for a cup of tea before landing. Perfect.

Verdict?

The one important take away I had from flying with Malaysia Airlines is that you shouldn’t be afraid. Yes, it has been an incredibly unfortunate year for the airline, but the two events, involving MH370 and MH17, are entirely separate issues, and unprecedented.

Travelling with the MAS crew I was humbled to the core. The pilots, flight attendants and support crew continue to serve with smiles on their faces after everything that’s happened to their coworkers, friends and in some instances, family.

When I was offered the flight, I won’t deny that a few fleeting thoughts crossed my mind about going, but ultimately, the whole experience reaffirmed my decision to fly with the airline. I felt well-served, special and, most importantly, I felt safe.

Overall, the business class offer was impressive. So if you want the space, seats that convert to beds, more-ish meals that leave you undoing the buttons on your pants and impeccable, thoughtful service, the experience is good value – but I think it ruined me for ever. After business with Malaysia Airlines, it’s nearly impossible to return to economy ever again. And next time I want to leave the plane with that satay recipe.

Here we go, boarding time.

First impressions are good. The seats look spacious and the cabin isn't overcrowded.

Everyone is settled, waiting for take off.

CareerBuilder partnered with Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. (EMSI) to compile its new list of the hottest jobs, which is based on supply and demand.

It features professions for which the number of jobs companies post each month significantly outpaces the number of people they actually hire — showing where companies are most hungry for talent and how much the positions pay.

"Whether you're a seasoned worker or a college student deciding on a career path, this list provides insights on where employers are hurting for talent and where they may be more willing to pay a premium for that talent," says Rosemary Haefner, CareerBuilder's vice president of human resources.

Audi Prologue Concept

Audi kicked off its 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show festivities by presenting the design concept upon which its future models will be based.

Called the Audi "Prologue," this big coupe signals a marked change in the brand's design direction under new chief-designer Marc Lichte.

“Audi stands for sportiness, lightweight design and the quattro permanent all wheel drive," Lichte said.

"In the Audi prologue, we are expressing this know-how in a new form – we have put the sportiest car in the luxury segment on wheels. Our team took new approaches in both exterior and interior design.”

Audi's A4, A5, A6, A7, and A8 models are in the twilight of their production life cycles. As a result, Lichte will have the daunting but rewarding task of shaping the backbone of Audi's lineup of cars.

In the days and weeks leading up to the 2014 LA Auto Show, rumors swirled about the mysterious concept car Audi teased in a short video.

The widely circulated theory that the Prologue would be the A9 4-door coupe has been proven to be incorrect, but that doesn't mean such a model won't happen.

The Prologue's DNA will actually serve as the foundation for the next generation...

5 Books Celebrity Life Coach Tony Robbins Thinks Everyone Should Read

tony robbins

Over the past 30 years, millions of people have seen a Tony Robbins presentation, listened to one of his audio lessons, or read one of his books.

In his career as a life coach, Robbins has worked with a wide range of powerful people, including President Bill Clinton, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, and hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones.

We spoke with him recently and asked him what books he recommends to anyone, regardless of where they are in their career.

Scroll down to see five of his favorites.

"Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor Frankl

Viktor Frankl was an Austrian neuroscientist and psychiatrist who survived three years in concentration camps during the Holocaust. In 1959, he published his meditation on what separated those who were able to find the meaning that helped them survive from those who gave up. "Man's Search for Meaning" has gone on to sell over 12 million copies around the world.

"I don't give a damn how rich you are financially or how abundant you are with your family or love, we all experience extreme stress in our life at some point,"Robbins says. "It's the ultimate equalizer. If it's not you, it will be someone in your family, and so the ability to find meaning in the most difficult times, I think, is one of the most important skills of life, and there's probably not a greater example than that book."

"As A Man Thinketh" by James Allen

The British author James Allen predates Napoleon Hill ("Think and Grow Rich") and Dale Carnegie ("How to Win Friends and Influence People") as a pioneer of the self-help movement. His most influential work is "As a Man Thinketh," published in 1908.

Robbins says he's read it more than a dozen times and often gives the book as a gift because it's concise, easy to read, and profound. "It's the whole concept of understanding that your thoughts really, truly shape everything in your life that you feel and experience," he says.

"The Singularity Is Near" by Ray Kurzweil

Ray Kurzweil is Google's director of engineering, a vocal futurist and transhumanist, and one of Robbin's good friends. His book, "The Singularity Is Near," details his theory that humanity will reach a point of "technological singularity" by the year 2045, a point from which machine intelligence progresses so rapidly that it exceeds humanity's ability to fully comprehend it.

Robbins sees Kurzweil as something of a prophet. "I believe anticipation is power, that if you are going to have a great life, you don't want to react to everything,"he says. "Where the world is going and what technology is leading us to in terms of the evolution of humanity is an incredibly valuable thing to understand."

The U.S. military is the largest, most powerful force in the world. After two wars over the last ten years, it's clear that the U.S. has had plenty of time and practice to keep our forces battle-tested.

Combat troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan in 2014, effectively marking the end of the war. President Obama has pledged that all US troops will be out of the country by 2016. However, Marines, Army, and Navy continue to train and stay battle ready.

The following night photos, drawn from the U.S. Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy show just how cutting-edge our military has become.

Inspired by similar images posted by Foreign Policy, we have prepared our own gallery including a few more exclusively from military photographers.

The 13 Most Successful Harvard Dropouts

$

Mark Zuckerberg harvard dorm

College isn't for everyone. Between tests, papers, and classes, there's a lot of stress, and plenty of students don't make it through.

But that doesn't mean these students are doomed to failure.

We put together a list of the most successful Harvard dropouts.

Some left the prestigious Ivy to pursue their passions, while others were forced to leave after partying too much. Either way, they all found extraordinary success after leaving the university.

At 20 years old, Bill Gates dropped out to start Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen.

Attended Harvard: 1973-1975

The applied math major was known at Harvard for his intense study habits. Gates would go on a 36-hour study-bender, sleep for 10 hours, socialize, then start from the beginning. He would even audit classes that were the same time frame as his scheduled classes.

Gates left the university because he and Allen wanted to be the first to establish the software industry.

The Microsoft mogul has long hovered at or near the top of the list of wealthiest people in the world, worth approximately $81 billionGates recently stepped down as chairman of Microsoft and now serves as a technology adviser for the company.

Gates and his wife, Melinda, started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, through which they have donated more than $30 billion to charities around the world.

Matt Damon dropped out one semester and 12 credits shy of a degree.

Attended Harvard: 1988-1992

The Boston-born actor was known to cut class to attend auditions during his time at Harvard.

Damon, an English major, dropped out of the Ivy his senior year after earning a spot in the film "Geronimo: An American Legend."

However it wasn't until 1997 that Damon received his big break starring in "Good Will Hunting," which earned the actor an Academy Award.

His career has since taken off, making his net worth approximately $75 million. The actor/producer is also heavily involved in humanitarian work; Damon is one of the founders of Water.org.

Mark Zuckerberg built the world's largest social network, Facebook, in his dorm room.

Attended Harvard: 2002-2004

On Feb. 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched the first version of Facebook from his Harvard dorm, and he is now worth approximately $35 billion.

Zuckerberg dropped out shortly after Facebook's launch and moved to Palo Alto, California, to continue to develop the site.

Facebook went public in 2012 for the fourth-biggest IPO ever (and biggest in tech) at $16 billion.

The list features professions for which the number of jobs companies post each month significantly outpaces the number of people they actually hire — showing where companies are most hungry for talent.

An 11.2-acre estate with 1,156 feet of water frontage on Georgica Pond in East Hampton will list for $140 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A $140 million price tag on the estate, called Briar Patch, will make it the most expensive listing in the Hamptons. The current owners, Chris Whittle, and his wife Priscilla Rattazzi, bought the 10,000-square-foot home in 1989 and completely renovated it with architect Peter Marino in 1990.

Most recently, the home has been listed on Brown Harris Stevens for rent on a short-term lease for $175,000.

The estate features an in-ground pool, tennis courts, acres of plush grass, a separate guest house, and access to Georgica Pond. The main home has six bedrooms and features historic "Georgian-Revival" shingles on the exterior.

Since the conflict in eastern Ukraine began last spring, the separatists have become increasingly well equipped and capable of resisting the Ukrainian military. Some of the supplies the separatists use have been captured or looted from governmental personnel.

However, a number of pictures prove that the separatists are armed with Russian weapons that have extremely rarely, if ever, been exported outside of Russia.

The Armament Research Services has released their third report on the arms and munitions being used by both the Ukrainian government and the rebels in the ongoing conflict. Complete with photographic evidence, it is clear that Moscow has been covertly supplying an assortment of older Soviet weaponry along with recently introduced Russian equipment to the separatists.

Self-Loading Rifles

Self-loading rifles are a popular weapon of the separatist forces.

Aside from a number of AK rifle varieties, the separatists also sport a host of recreation hunting and sport firearms. In one case, a separatist was documented using VSS rifles. These are Russian-made marksman rifles that are analogous to those used by Russian forces during the annexation of Crimea.

The self-loading rifles used by the separatists include:

Soviet AK-74
Soviet AKS-74U
Soviet AR-10 and AR-15 hunting rifles
Russian VSS designated marksman rifle

Light Machine Guns

Light machine guns make up some of the most common weaponry of the separatists.

The light machine guns utilized by the separatists include weaponry used by the Ukrainian military, as well as Russian-produced guns that are not in service with Ukrainian forces. The PKP 'Pecheneg' light machine gun, for example, is not used by the Ukrainian forces and has been exported outside of Russia in only minimal quantities.

The light machine guns used by the separatists include:

Russian RPK-74
Russian PK and PK GPMGs
Russian PKP 'Pecheneg'

Shotguns And Bolt-Action Rifles

The use of shotguns and bolt-action rifles have been documented as being used by separatists who are incapable of accessing better quality small arms.

Some older bolt-action sporting rifles have also been documented being used by the separatists. These rifles are in some cases antiques, dating to use with the Russian infantry from World War II or earlier.

The shotguns and bolt-action rifles used by the separatists include:

Russian semi-automatic Saiga 12 shotguns
Turkish semi-automatic Akkar Altay shotguns
Philippino Armscor Model 30 pump-action shotgun
Russian infantry Mosin M91 rifle

TGI Fridays In The UK Are Testing 'Mistletoe Drones'

TGI FridaysTGI Fridays has announced plans to release mistletoe-carrying drones in its UK locations.

The company plans to fly the drones carrying small bundles of mistletoe in the hopes that “people get a little closer at this romantic time of the year,” TGI Fridays spokeswoman Rachel Waller told the Manchester Evening News

The drones will hover around couples eating at the restaurant chain and encourage them to partake in a little PDA.

The drones will also come equipped with a “kiss cam" to film a bird's-eye view of the very special moments.

Mistletoe Drones Pretty awkward.

The drones are a part of a so-called #togethermas marketing stunt. According to the promotional video, nearly half of the British population have never kissed under mistletoe, and the restaurant chain wants to give its customers the "encouragement they need to make their move," Waller told Manchester Evening News

The stunt seems like an obvious ploy to lure back customers to the casual dining chain. It's reminiscent of Olive Garden's stunt earlier this year to give parents a "free date night" to drive up their sales.

In September, TGI Fridays said it would sell most of its company-owned restaurants to franchisees. Like many other casual dining restaurants, the company has struggled to bring in customers, and is working to reverse that trend by remodeling its restaurants and revamping its menu.

Casual dining restaurants have been hurting since customers are worried about cash and holding back from eating out. In the US, the average American only goes out to dinner 74 times a year — the lowest amount in three decades.

The mistletoe drone project is being piloted at the Manchester TGI Fridays location, and will be introduced in locations across the UK soon.

Smartphone cameras have become so advanced, they've come to replace digital cameras for many people. But not all smartphone cameras were created equal.

Apple, Samsung, and Motorola have all put a ton of effort into perfecting the camera on their flagship smartphones.

Over the years, Samsung has added a ton of editing features, and Apple has added new shooting modes such as panoramic shooting and time lapse. The Nexus 6, Google's latest phone built by Motorola, is said to have the best camera of any Nexus phone yet.

The iPhone 6 Plus comes with an eight-megapixel camera, while the Galaxy Note 4 comes with a 16-megapixel camera and the Nexus 6 uses a 13-megapixel camera.

We've taken a bunch of photos with all three phones to illustrate exactly how they compare.

(NOTE: All photos were taken at the same place during the same time with the camera set to Auto. The only exception is the low-light image, which was set to No Flash.)

Here's a photo taken on Fifth Avenue with the iPhone 6 Plus. It's pretty sharp, and the colors are really bold. It looks a bit blue when compared to the Galaxy Note 4's photo.

And here's that same photo taken with the Galaxy Note 4. It's the best of the bunch since the image is generally clear and the colors seem accurate.

The Nexus 6's photo was the worst of the three. The shot is generally clear, but the upper right corner looks washed out.
