We've already shown you how to use Snapchat, an app that looks easy enough, but is riddled with nuanced features.

Last year, Snapchat was ranked the third most popular social app among millennials, trailing only Facebook and Instagram.

Now we're going to show you some Snapchat hacks, so you can make the most out of Snapchat's not-so-obvious features without downloading third-party apps.

SEE ALSO: A 22-year-old made the ultimate guide on how to use Snapchat >>

You can see your Snapchat score, the total number of snaps you've received and sent, on your profile...

Other people can add you by pointing their phone at the ghost on your profile and tapping their screen. It's basically a little QR code. If you want your friends to easily find you on Snapchat, you should share a screenshot of your Snapchat profile to Twitter or Facebook!

If you're on an iPhone, you'll notice white and black are absent from the color palette (Android users have them built in). You can get the white crayon by touching the palette and dragging your finger towards the top left corner.

Step inside the tiny former Soviet country that doesn't technically exist

DSC_1488

We all take pride in our roots, but photographer Anton Polyakov has a unique love for his homeland.

Polyakov was born and raised in the breakaway province of Transnistria, an approximately 125-mile-long sliver of territory along the Dniester River running between Moldova and Ukraine.

In the aftermath of the USSR’s collapse in the early '90s, the Soviet Republic of Moldova declared independence, but the region along the Dniester sought freedom of its own. Transnistria may have fought a bloody war for self-rule from Moldova in 1992, but it's still not recognized by the UN — or any UN member country — and essentially exists as an independent state.

Polyakov is a proud member of the first generation of the tiny republic. “Despite the fact that our republic is unrecognized, for people of my generation, it is ... the homeland,” he says.

Many Transnistrians hold strong pro-Russian views, and the area is dotted with relics of the Soviet era. But to Polyakov, Transnistria has much more to offer than remnants of communism. He set out to document his home, hoping to capture elements that many don’t see.

“Transnistria is more than just Lenin standing near the house of government or some other symbol of the Soviet period,” he tells Business Insider. “It is important for me to show that there is another side of life where these characters do not hold such value, especially for my generation born after the collapse.”

Polyakov has shared his photos and experience in this unique land with us here.

SEE ALSO: Here's what it might look like if your spam emails came to life

Every February 23, Transnistria celebrates Soviet Army Day with festivities and competitions taking place in Tiraspol, the republic’s capital. The Russian army has been present in Transnistria since the war for independence, a presence with which Ukraine has taken issue with recently.

Here’s Tiraspol in the winter. With a population of about 135,000, it’s the largest city in Transnistria. The nearby city of Bendery is 7 miles west across the Dniester River and is considered under the de facto control of Transnistria.

The Dniester River forms the border between Moldova and Transnistria. The river is very important to the tiny republic, both for agriculture and leisure.

If you're trying to download and install iOS 8.4 to check out Apple's new music streaming service but your iPhone is telling you you don't have enough space, you might not need to scramble to delete apps and photos.

The secret is iTunes. If you plug your iPhone into iTunes, you won't need as much free space, only about 610 megabytes. This is how people used to update the iPhone in the old days before we could update iOS "over the air," or OTA.

Plug your iPhone into your computer and launch iTunes to get started.

5 books that inspired billionaire CEO Elizabeth Holmes

Elizabeth Holmes Theranos

Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was named No. 1 on Business Insider's Silicon Valley 100 list this year due to her remarkable rise to success.

Since dropping out of Stanford at age 19 to found her health-technology company in 2003, Holmes has raised $400 million in venture capital and become a billionaire in the process.

Theranos is founded on the idea that a single drop of blood can provide enough information for a complete, inexpensive blood test. It already has a deal with Walgreens and in early July reached a major achievement when the FDA approved Theranos' herpes test.

In an interview with the Academy of Achievement nonprofit last September, Holmes discussed several books that helped shape her worldview.

'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey' by Homer

Holmes says she was an introverted child and that books were her "good friends." Two of the books she enmeshed herself in at a young age are Homer's ancient Greek epic poems about the Trojan War and Odysseus' journey home after it, "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey," respectively.

"I've always been fascinated in the fact that so much changes in our society technologically, but as humans we don't change a lot," Holmes said.

Robert Fagles' translation is especially accessible while remaining true to the source material.

'Moby-Dick' by Herman Melville

The 1851 American classic is another book Holmes fell in love with as a girl.

While many of us are familiar with the general story of Captain Ahab and the white whale because of its place in pop culture, the story has many more layers than you may be aware of, and it is a rich allegory on what constitutes morality and how we create meaning in life.

To appreciate the many allusions Melville played with, check out the Norton Critical Edition.

'The Complete Story of Civilization' by Will and Ariel Durant

From 1935 to 1975, author Will Durant wrote 11 volumes on Western history, finishing with the Napoleonic era only because he and his wife died weeks apart. His wife, Ariel, is a coauthor of several of the final volumes, and they both won the 1968 Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction for the 10th in the series, "Rousseau and Revolution."

"I've really been fascinated and inspired by reading books about history, because there's so much wisdom in understanding how these great people and great leaders built great organizations, led groups of people, and effected change," Holmes said.

She thinks there is "very powerful" insight contained within the Durants' massive work. "It shapes your frame of thinking when you encounter people and situations," she said.

Tim Cook, Apple

They say the early bird catches the worm, and research suggests there might be some truth to the old adage.

Waking up with (or before) the sun allows executives like AOL's Tim Armstrong and Pepsi's Indra Nooyi to get a head start on the day, knocking out tasks before the rest of the world has rolled out of bed.

Those "extra" hours also give them a chance to do some creative thinking, fit in a workout, and spend time with family.

Ahead, 24 early risers who may convince you never to hit snooze again.

Max Nisen and Aaron Taube contributed to earlier versions of this article.

Once you're, figure out what to eat: What 12 highly successful people eat for breakfast

General Motors CEO Mary Barra

Like her predecessor, Daniel Akerson, GM's current chief executive is an early riser. According to a New York Times profile, she was regularly at the office by 6 a.m., and that was before she even became CEO.

AOL CEO Tim Armstrong

The former Google executive told The Guardian that he was "not a big sleeper" and wakes up at 5 a.m. or 5:15 a.m. every day to workout, read, tinker with AOL's products, and answer emails. Armstrong has a driver who takes him to work every day, allowing him to get things done throughout his hour-long commute.

Xerox CEO Ursula Burns

Burns uses early morning hours to get caught up on emails, getting up at 5:15 a.m. and sometimes working until midnight, according to Yahoo Finance.

She also uses the time to fit in a workout, according to Laura Vanderkam's "What The Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast." Burns schedules an hour of personal training at 6 a.m. twice a week.

But most of America is missing out on this prime social outdoor drinking with its pesky container laws.

We've found 21 places in the US where it's legal to drink outdoors.

Las Vegas, Nevada: Seeing as what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, it's only natural that it would encourage debauchery by allowing people to imbibe anywhere. The only exceptions to public drinking are within 1,000 feet of a church, synagogue, school, hospital, or homeless shelter.

New Orleans, Louisiana: Home of Mardi Gras and daiquiri shops. Obviously, open containers are not an issue here.

Sonoma, California: With over 400 wineries, it's really in the wine country's best interest to allow public drinking. Wouldn't want to cheapen fancy wine with brown bags, would we?

terminator 2 judgment day

Nobody expected "The Terminator" to be a hit in 1984.

It came from James Cameron, a then untested director whose only previous credit was "Piranha Part Two: The Spawning."

Made on an estimated budget of $6.4 million, "The Terminator" grossed $78.4 million worldwide and gave Cameron the clout he needed to eventually go on and direct "Aliens,""Titanic," and "Avatar."

Meanwhile, the 1991 sequel, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," is considered one of the greatest sequels of all-time. With a worldwide gross of $519.8 million, it was the highest-grossing film of the year, and showed that Arnold could play both bad and good guy.

The two films serve as direct inspiration for the next film in the franchise, "Terminator Genisys," which is expected to kick off a new trilogy.

"The Terminator" might be best known for launching the career of its star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, while also giving him a catchphrase ("I'll be back") that would follow him around for the rest of his career.

But he wasn't the only one whose star power greatly rose after its release.

With the next series in the franchise in theaters July 1, let's take a look back at the stars of the franchise.

THEN: Austrian bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger took one of his first major film roles as the murderous cyborg T-800. The rest, as they say, is cinematic history.

NOW: Besides being the governor of California, Schwarzenegger has had more iconic performances than you can count, ranging from “Kindergarten Cop” to “Predator.” He'll be back in his most famous role once more for "Terminator Genisys."

THEN: Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor, mother to a child who was destined to save the world.

11 signs someone is lying to you

$

nervous fear biting lip woman

A majority of the people you talk to on a daily basis are big fat liars.

A 2002 study conducted by University of Massachusetts Amherst psychologist Robert S. Feldman found that 60% of people lied during a 10-minute conversation, and they told an average of two to three lies in that time.

Luckily, fibs are fairly easy to spot — you just have to know the signs.

Dr. Lillian Glass, a behavioral analyst and body language expert who has worked with the FBI on unmasking signals of deception, says when trying to figure out if someone is lying, you first need to understand how the person normally acts. Then you'll want to pay careful attention to their facial expressions, body language, and speech patterns, she writes in her book "The Body Language of Liars."

Vivian Giang contributed to an earlier version of this article.

Here are 11 telltale signs:

1. They change their head position quickly.

If you see someone suddenly make a head movement when you ask them a direct question, they may be lying to you about something.

"The head will be retracted or jerked back, bowed down, or cocked or tilted to the side," writes Glass. This will often happen right before the person is expected to respond to a question.

2. Their breathing changes.

When someone is lying to you, they may begin to breathe heavily, Glass says. "It's a reflex action."

When their breathing changes, their shoulders will rise and their voice may get shallow, she adds. "In essence, they are out of breath because their heart rate and blood flow change. Your body experiences these types of changes when you're nervous and feeling tense — when you lie."

3. They stand very still.

It's common knowledge that people fidget when they get nervous, but Glass says that you should also watch out for people who are not moving at all.

"This may be a sign of the primitive neurological 'fight,' rather than the 'flight,' response, as the body positions and readies itself for possible confrontation," says Glass. "When you speak and engage in normal conversation, it is natural to move your body around in subtle, relaxed, and, for the most part, unconscious movements. So if you observe a rigid, catatonic stance devoid of movement, it is often a huge warning sign that something is off."

sagaponack

The most expensive ZIP code in America isn't in Silicon Valley.

It's in Sagaponack, New York, the summer destination of Billy Joel and the Clinton family, among others.

Over the past year, homes in the area, part of the Hamptons, sold for a median price of over $5 million.

The list of most expensive ZIP codes was compiled by the data team at the real-estate-listings site Property Shark, which calculated the median sale price for each ZIP code based on closed sales that took place between January 2014 and June 2015.

The site found that the most expensive places to buy a house are on either coast, with New York, Florida, and California dominating the list.

Here's what the most exclusive communities in the country look like.

All median sale price data was provided by Property Shark. Median household income comes from the US Census Bureau.

19. Pacific Palisades, California (90272)

Pacific Palisades is part of the city of Los Angeles, so it's no surprise that plenty of celebrities choose to call it home. You may find that Rihanna or NBA superstar Blake Griffin is your neighbor.

These are the 10 companies that spend the most on advertising

$

scarlett johansson

Collectively, the top 200 advertisers in the United States spent a record $137.8 billion on advertising in 2014, up 2% year on year, according to Ad Age's annual "200 Leading National Advertisers" report.

But while this reads like promising news for the advertising sector, the growth rate was the lowest since the ad market recovery began in 2010, according to the report, which notes that leading advertisers are striving to make their media buys more efficient.

Overall, there were 38 marketers that spent more than $1 billion on advertising in the US last year. Here are the top 10 biggest spenders.

SEE ALSO: This was the best of the best in advertising over the past 12 months

10. WALT DISNEY COMPANY. Ad spend up 7.4% to $2.1 billion. The company spent big on marketing its box office phenomenon "Frozen" with fresh content and merchandise long after its 2013 opening.

9. L'ORÉAL: Ad spend down 2% to $2.2 billion. The report notes that many of the brands that grew the fastest for the company in 2014 actually had very low or no ad spend — such as Kiehl's, Urban Decay, and NYX. In April, the company's US division launched a review of all its media, with a decision expected by the end of the year.

8. FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES: Ad spend up 14% to $2.2 billion. Fiat launched a number of high-profile campaigns in 2014, including its "Fix It Again, Tony" ad (a derogatory acronym that was once widely used to describe the quality of its cars) and a big push for its Fiat 500 minicar starring Sean 'Diddy' Combs.

Here's how to lock the individual apps on your Android phone

$

lock, locked, padlock, locked outIf you have an Android phone or tablet, and don't use a screen lock (or you're using a swipe one, which anyone can disable), you can still protect a lot of what's inside your device.

More exactly, you can lock individual apps (and prevent unauthorized access to them) by using third-party application that are made with this in mind.

The most popular and easy to use app that lets you lock individual apps is simply called AppLock, and can be downloaded for free from Google Play (see the source link at the end of this article).

Once you download, install, and open App Lock, you'll be prompted to create a password. This is used whenever you re-open AppLock, as well as when you want to access any of the apps that you'll be locking (unless you specifically change it), so make sure it's a password you can easily remember. A security e-mail also needs to be provided. After that, you're all set to start locking individual apps - including Phone, Messenger, Facebook, and so on.

AppLock's interface is simple and easy to use. You're presented with a list of all the apps installed on your device, and you can individually lock them by simply tapping on the lock button seen on their right. AppLock also lets you prevent access to photos and videos (by placing them in a Photo Vault, or a Video Vault).

After you lock a specific app, this will open only if you type in the password you've set up in AppLock. Of course, you can (at any time) unlock any app that you've previously locked.

You don't necessarily need to use AppLock for all this. There are other similar applications available to download, and you can find them by simply searching for "app lock" in Google Play.

SEE ALSO: Apple wants you to be able to unlock your iPhone with a selfie

This is what AppLock looks like when you first open it, requiring you to enter an initial password...

THE TRUMP 5: Meet the fabulous offspring of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump

$

trump family presidential candidateTwo divorces and three marriages seems par for the course if you're Donald Trump, a man who freely admits that he's married to his business.

Settled down (maritally speaking) for now, Trump has two sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, and a daughter, Ivanka, with first wife Ivana; a college-age daughter, Tiffany, with second wife Marla Maples; and a 9-year-old son, Barron, with current wife Melania.

Having grown up in the spotlight, his three eldest children manged to find success and happiness while sidestepping the usual celebrity kid drama. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Tiffany, an aspiring pop star who was raised in LA, is attending business school on the East Coast and hitting the town with Manhattan's so-called "Rich Kids of Instagram." And young Barron is busy just being a fourth-grader.

Here's everything you need to know about each of the Trump heirs.

DONALD JR., 37, son of Ivana

donald trump jr.A father of five, Donald Jr. was 12 years old when Ivana and Donald Sr. divorced. Unlike his younger siblings, he was old enough to understand what the nasty divorce headlines meant — his classmates were, too.

As a child he was extremely close to his maternal grandfather, Milos, who passed away in 1990. The two would spend a couple of weeks every summer hunting and fishing in a town outside of Prague (Ivana is Czechoslovakian). The fast-talking Donald Jr. is fluent in Czech and named one of his sons Tristan Milos, after his grandfather.

After boarding school (Pennsylvania's prestigious Hill School), he followed in his father's footsteps — as most of the Trump kids have — to The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate.

AP_880326020

A 2004 New York magazine profile noted Donald Jr.'s propensity for drinking and getting into "do-you-have-any-idea-who-I-am? fights" in college, but he later told Forbes that his love of hunting kept him on the straight and narrow. "[While] other people I knew were getting into trouble, I was somewhere in a deer stand or going to bed early so I could be up before dawn to hunt turkeys," he said.

In 2001, a year after he graduated from college, Donald Jr. went to work for his dad for the second time. (The first time was when he was 13 and earning minimum wage plus tips as a dock attendant at Trump Castle.) Now an executive vice president at The Trump Organization, he cut his teeth with the development of Trump Place at West Side Yards and has gone on to spearhead projects in Chicago, Las Vegas, Scotland, and India.

Donald Trump Jr.

Thanks to a fix-up from his dad, he met his wife, Vanessa, at a fashion show. He caught a lot of heat for proposing to her in front of a jewelry store with a bunch of photographers standing by. The rumor-mill called it a publicity stunt and claimed he'd gotten the $100,000 ring on trade. But as the happy couple has welcomed five children in the past seven years, that news story has long since been buried.

IVANKA, 33, daughter of Ivana

ivanka trumpIvanka is the breakout success of the family. The same year that she and brothers Donald Jr. and Eric founded the Trump Hotel Collections, Ivanka launched a jewelry brand that has spawned clothing, shoe, and accessories lines carried by the likes of Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, and Zappos.

An avid runner and former runway model, Ivanka is an executive vice president of acquisitions and development for The Trump Organization. But she didn't go straight from The Wharton School to an office at Trump Tower. She worked for real estate developer Bruce Ratner for a year after college. And a 2013 Forbes profile indicates that she politely declined a job offer from Vogue's Anna Wintour.

ivanka trump modeling

Specializing in deal-making and design, Ivanka joined her dad's company in 2005. She was the lead negotiator on the purchase of Trump National Doral Miami, a $1 billion property that she scooped up for $150 million.

Ivanka is stealthily private about her personal life, but before tying the knot with real estate and publishing scion Jared Kushner she was linked to Greg Hersch (now a wealth management SVP at UBS) and is said to have gone on a date with "That '70s Show" star Topher Grace.

ivanka trump weddingShe met her match in Kushner. The two live in a $16 million penthouse atop Trump Park Avenue with their two children, Arabella Rose and Joseph Frederick Kushner. Ivanka converted to Orthodox Judaism before her 2009 wedding and the family keeps kosher and observes the Sabbath. “From Friday to Saturday we don’t do anything but hang out with one another. We don’t make phone calls,” she told Vogue.

ERIC, 31, son of Ivana

eric trump

For a long time, Eric was the six-foot-five, media-shy baby of the family. He told New York magazine that his brother Donald Jr. is like his mentor and Ivanka is like his second mother. "She took me under her wing and raised me, took me shopping, tried to make me cool,” he said.

Unlike his brother and sister, he chose Georgetown over Wharton and went straight to work for his father after he graduated. He has the same EVP of acquisitions and development title as his sister, but his niche is said to be in construction.

In 2012, he proposed to his then-girlfriend of five years, Lara Yunaska, at Seven Springs, his dad's $19.5 million Westchester estate, with a ring from sister Ivanka's fine jewelry collection. Yunaska is a former personal trainer and TV producer.

The couple was married in front of 400 guests at Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Springs, Florida. Eric's brother-in-law Jared Kushner officiated the wedding, telling Yunaska, “You are not just gaining a family, you are getting six million Twitter followers.”

Eric also owns and operates Trump Winery, Virginia's largest vineyard, and has pledged nearly $28 million to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through his Eric Trump Foundation.

He and Lara split their time between Westchester and Manhattan, where Eric owns a three-bedroom apartment at Trump Parc East that he bought from his father in 2007 for $2 million.

TIFFANY, 21, daughter of Marla Maples

Tiffany Trump is so new to the scene that she doesn't even have a Wikipedia page yet!

Unlike her half-siblings, she didn't grow up playing in her father's office — nor did she spend her summers helping him fix up the grounds of Seven Springs. Tiffany was raised by mother Marla Maples outside of LA. There, she attended Calabasas' $31,205-a-year Viewpoint School.

In an interview with Oprah.com, Maples remarked that a then-17-year-old Tiffany was "getting to an age where she is studying business" and that soon she would "be able to look to her father to guide her."

Fast-forward to today and Tiffany is studying at The Wharton School and hoping to break into either fashion or music. Her sister Ivanka reportedly helped her snag an internship at Vogue, and last year she dropped the single for her debut song, "Like a Bird."

GettyImages 170829515Last October the bubbly California Trump celebrated her 21st birthday bash with a pack of young socialites dubbed "The Rich Kids of Instagram." This summer she's been popping up on the Hamptons party circuit. Some of her friends are Harry Brant (son of media mogul Peter Brant), Gaia Matisse (Henri Matisse's great-great-granddaughter), and EJ Johnson (Magic Johnson's son), star of E!'s "Rich Kids of Beverly Hills" show.

She loves to travel and her father's private jet comes in handy when she wants a change of scenery. We're sure her Wikipedia page will arise and fill up fast soon.

BARRON, 9, son of Melania

From the way Melania describes her 9-year-old son, he may be the more like his father than any of his siblings. "He loves to build something and tear it down and build something else ... Sometimes I call him little Donald," she told Parenting.com

The young heir is said to prefer suits to sweatpants and has an entire floor to himself at his parents' Trump Tower penthouse. Melania famously told ABC News that she slathers Barron in caviar moisturizer (from her skin care line, priced at $50-$150 per product) every night.

Melania says he plays baseball and tennis, but has a proclivity for his dad's favorite sport: golf. His parents keep him out of the public eye as much as possible, but he regularly attends the Trump Invitational Grand Prix at Mar-a-Lago and, when he was younger, Melania always took him to the Upper East Side's hottest children's social of the year, the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Bunny Hop.
