We went to Sears and saw why the company is imploding

Sears is struggling.

Sales have been declining for years, and the company is selling off real estate and closing stores to stay afloat.

Analysts say the stores that remain open are now shells of what they once were, and that it's only a matter of time before the retailer goes bankrupt.

We visited a Sears store in Richmond, Virginia to see what's going wrong.

The parking lot of the department store, which is attached to a shopping mall, is nearly empty.

Stepping inside, shoppers are greeted by a massive sale sign and ushered into the Land's End clothing department.

The first display near the entrance is impressively neat, tidy, and colorful.

29 jobs to avoid if you hate feeling stressed

Do you crack under pressure? Crumble when you're stressed? If so, you'd be better off pursuing a career in science or education than you would in healthcare or law enforcement.

Using data from the Occupational Information Network (O*NET), a US Department of Labor database full of detailed information on jobs, we found the 29 professions you should avoid if you really don't like stress.

O*NET assigns a "stress tolerance" score (0-100) — which measures how frequently workers must accept criticism and deal effectively with high stress on the job — for each of the almost 900 jobs in its database. A lower rating signals less stress; a higher rating signals more.

Here are jobs that earned a stress tolerance rating of 94 or higher. If you're the type of person who thrives under pressure or can stay cool, calm, and collected in high-stress situations, these jobs may be perfect for you. If you're the crack-or-crumble type, you may want to avoid them:

The 6 most popular fan theories for how 'Game of Thrones' will end

white walkers game of thrones

Warning: spoilers ahead for both HBO's "Game of Thrones" and George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels.

When it comes to "Game of Thrones" fan theories coming true, the current sixth season has presented us with quite the bounty.

We watched Jon Snow (Kit Harington) get resurrected, learned that Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) will play a huge role in the show's endgame, watched Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) rise once again from the flames, and saw The Night King in action.

These and other recent events seem to be planting the seeds for countless theories surrounding the show's endgame. And that conclusion could come sooner than you realize: Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have said they're considering finishing with an eighth season.

Here are six fan theories about how the show will end that seem the most plausible.

DON'T MISS: 6 important things you probably missed on this week's 'Game of Thrones'

Jon Snow will rule the land.

This time around, Melisandre (Carice van Houten) seems to have gotten it right in her search for "the prince that was promised."All the elements are coming together.

Has he been reborn? Check. Is he from the line of House Targaryen? Not yet confirmed, but looking pretty likely. All he needs is a sword pulled from fire and the bravery to take on the White Walkers. No problem.

Daenerys will take back the Iron Throne.

Jon Snow isn't the only candidate for the "promised" one. This season, another Red Priestess said that Daenerys Targaryen (Emily Clarke) is the prophesied savior.

What parts of the prophecy does Daenerys meet?

Clearly, she's a member of House Targaryen. Sure, she would be a princess, not a prince. But according to a passage in the "Song of Ice and Fire" books, the prophecy was written in High Valyrian, in which the word "prince" is gender-neutral. And we know she wouldn't back down from a battle with the White Walkers.

She was reborn in fire? Check.

Jon Snow vs. Daenerys

They can't both be the chosen one, right?

There's a theory that the two will clash. Jon would represent the North and ice while Daenerys would represent the South and fire.

There's already some belief that Dany is walking down a villainous path, one that has the burned corpses of Khals, the beheaded bodies of slave masters, and a trail of broken hearts. After all, bloodlust does run in the family. Her father was The Mad King.

This robot can 3D-print a pizza in under five minutes

Today's robots are pretty extraordinary. There are ones that can paint incredible works of art, run lettuce farms, and even act like us.

Now there's a new robot, called the BeeHex, that can 3D-print any type of pizza.

The inventors, largely hardware engineers, received a $125,000 grant from NASA to develop the device, cofounder Jordan French tells Tech Insider. NASA was looking for a bot that could easily make something delicious (as opposed to normal, unappetizing space food) for astronauts during future Mars missions.

In the meantime, BeeHexes will be at theme parks, sports arenas, music venues, and malls nationwide starting early 2017. Compared to human workers, the robot is faster, cleaner, and more consistent, French says. Only one person is needed to work the machine, which can lay down the dough, sauce, and cheese in only a few minutes.

Here's how it works.

The BeeHex can produce any type of pizza in any shape, French says. Like most 3D printers, it hooks up to a computer that tells it which dough, sauce, and cheese to use.

The team hasn't finalized which brands will carry BeeHexes, but Six Flags may sign on, French says. Customers will be able to order them at kiosks, which may look like this:

You will also be able to order a pizza through the BeeHex app, which pings you when it's ready. You can choose the pizza's size (10 or 12-inch), dough (plain, tomato, or gluten-free), sauce (tomato basil, pesto, or vodka), and cheese (mozzarella or burrata).

Depending on the size, toppings, dough, and location, a Beehex pizza will cost anywhere from $8 to $15. More options will be available in the future, including thicker crusts and larger sizes.

6 important things you probably missed on this week's 'Game of Thrones'

brienne of tarth riverrun game of thrones hbo

Warning: spoilers ahead for Sunday's episode of "Game of Thrones,""No One."

"Game of Thrones" staged several reunions on this week's episode.

Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) arrived at Riverrun and met up with Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), revealing some interesting layers to their relationship. Meanwhile, Mereen was under siege by the returning slave masters, but Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) arrived in the nick of time. Sandor Clegane (Rory McCann) caught up with the men who savaged the sept that took him in and settled the score. He also ran into an old nemesis. And Arya (Maisie Williams) came face-to-face once again with The Waif (Faye Marsaye), who returned to finish the young Stark off.

With all that to pay attention to, there may have been some details that viewers didn't catch.

Here are six important things you probably missed on this week's "Game of Thrones":

DON'T MISS: The 5 most talked-about moments from last week's 'Game of Thrones'

Cleganebowl probably won't go down.

The show may have dashed fans' hopes of a popular theory happening. Referred to as Cleganebowl, the theory basically says that the Hound will lock swords with his brother, Gregor Glegane aka The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), in a trial by combat revolving around Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

But on this week's episode, Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) decreed that trials would no longer be settled by combat. And with that, the chances of Cleganebowl happening are a lot slimmer.

The Lady Stoneheart theory.

Here again, another popular theory looked like it wouldn't happen. In this one, Catelyn Stark is brought back to life (sort of, she is more like a zombie) and commands a rebel army called the Brotherhood Without Banners in avenging the Stark murders. The theory looked doomed for a while when they destroyed the nonviolent group that took in Sandor Clegane.

But on this episode, we learn that those men weren't acting under the orders of the Brotherhood. That means that the group still has some honor, and could very well still be part of Lady Stoneheart's plan to avenge the Starks.

The significance of Beric Donderrian.

The last time viewers saw Beric Donderrian (Richard Dormer) was during season three. If you'll remember, he was sent to hunt down Sandor Clegane by order of Ned Stark for crimes committed against the people of the Riverlands on season one. During season three, he had captured Arya and Gendry. Later, he sells Gendry to Melisandre (Carice van Houten), earning himself a place on Arya's kill list.

We now find he's part of the Brotherhood Without Banners, which may be pivotal in bringing back Lady Catelyn Stark.

6 details you might have missed in the latest 'Game of Thrones' episode

Lady Crane Braavos play Game of Thrones Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you have not watched Sunday's episode of "Game of Thrones."

The eighth episode of "Game of Thrones" was a bloody and brutal hour, with epic chase scenes and a tense showdown in King's Landing.

As usual, the showrunners slipped in references and throwback lines that may have gone unnoticed by some fans. We've got you covered, though.

Scroll down for a look at the six things you probably missed.

Tyrion has told that joke about a jackal and honeycomb before.

In Sunday's episode, Tyrion began to tell Missandei and Greyworm a joke. He starts saying: "I once walked into a brothel with a honeycomb and a jack-_-. The madame says — " and then Tyrion is cut off by the arrival of the Sons of the Harpy.

This isn't the first time Tyrion was interrupted while telling that story.

Back in season one, Tyrion said the same opening line.

When Tyrion was captured by Catelyn Tully for the attempted murder of Bran, he was taken to the Eyrie. There he was forced to confess his crimes. But instead of talking about Bran, Tyrion chose to admit to silly instances of pranks he pulled as a child. The last thing he says, before getting cut off by Lysa Arryn, was: "I once brought a jacka-- and a honeycomb into a brothel."

If you're wondering what Tyrion's second joke of the episode was all about (flies? ale?), Phil Owen at The Wrap has an explanation.

Jaime also repeated an iconic line from the first season.

When speaking with Edmure Tully in his tent, Jaime explained how he admired Catelyn Stark when she was alive. He compared Catelyn's love for her children to Cersei's fierce protectiveness of her kids. "They'd do anything to protect their babies," Jaime said. "Start a war. Burn cities to ash. Free their worst enemies ... The things we do for love."

Does that sound familiar? It should ...

Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti perfectly captured the feelings people experience after drinking a glass—or three—of wine.

In his recent project "3 Glasses Later," Alberti snapped photos of his friends when they were sober, and then again after they'd had one, two, and three glasses of wine.

"I wanted to make a tribute to wine," Alberti told Insider. He explained that he had previously only seen the negative sides of alcohol, but after he started to drink wine with a friend about a month before starting this project, his perception changed. He wanted to show that if you drink in moderation, "surrounded by your friends and family in a happy environment," it could be a good thing.

All of the subjects were Alberti's friends.

Some of them drink wine every day and some hardly ever drink.

Alberti gave them Cabernet Sauvignon, because he thought people would enjoy that type of wine the most.

How to instantly connect with anyone

women friends rainThis post from LinkedIn Influencer Travis Bradberry appeared originally on LinkedIn.

Too many people succumb to the mistaken belief that the ability to connect with others is a natural, unteachable trait that belongs to only a lucky few.

It’s easy to fall prey to this misconception. In reality, this ability is under your control, and it’s a matter of emotional intelligence (EQ).

Research conducted by Matthew Lieberman at UCLA shows that being social and connecting with others is as fundamental a human need as food, shelter, and water. For example, Lieberman discovered that we feel social pain, such as the loss of a relationship, in the same part of the brain that we feel physical pain.

The primary function of this brain area is to alert us to threats to our survival. It makes you realize how powerful and important social connection is. We’re hard wired to be social creatures.

“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood.” – Ralph Nichols

MRIs of the brain show that social thinking and analytical thinking involve entirely different neural networks and that they operate something like a seesaw. When you engage in analytical thinking, the social part of your brain quiets down, but as soon as you’re finished, the social network springs back to life.

The social brain is the end of the seesaw where the fat kid sits; it’s our brain’s default setting.

Given that social connection is such a fundamental human need, you’d think that it would be easy to connect with everyone we meet. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Against our own self-interest, we get bogged down by shyness, self-consciousness, cynicism, pride, competitiveness, jealousy, and arrogance.

If you can get that baggage out of the way, you can connect with anyone — even those who are still holding on to their own. Here are some tips that will help you to connect instantly with everyone you meet.

SEE ALSO: 10 habits of chronically unhappy people

Leave a strong first impression.

Research shows that most people decide whether or not they like you within the first seven seconds of meeting you. They then spend the rest of the conversation internally justifying their initial reaction. This may sound terrifying, but by knowing this, you can take advantage of it to connect with anyone.

First impressions are tied intimately to positive body language. Becoming cognizant of your gestures, expressions, and tone of voice (and making certain they’re positive) will draw people to you like ants to a picnic.

Using an enthusiastic tone, uncrossing your arms, maintaining eye contact, and leaning towards the person who’s speaking are all forms of positive body language that high-EQ people use to draw others in. Positive body language can make all the difference in a conversation. It’s true that how you say something can be more important than what you say.

Be the first to venture beyond the superficial.

Our first conversation or two with a new acquaintance tends to be pretty superficial. We portray a careful picture of ourselves, and we stick to nice, safe topics. We talk about the weather and people we know in common and share the most basic details about ourselves. But if you really want to connect with somebody, try upping the ante and revealing the real you.

You don’t need to get too personal, but it’s important to let the other person know what you’re passionate about. Most of the time, if you open up, the other person will follow your lead and do the same.

Ask good questions.

If the other person seems hesitant to open up, encourage them to do so by asking substantial questions. “What do you do?” doesn’t further the relationship nearly as much as, “Why did you choose your profession?”

Search for questions that will help you to understand what makes the other person tick, without getting too personal.

College Graduation Graduates Students

A college education is a big investment of both time and money. All you can do is choose the right program, work hard, and hope it pays off.

"College is one of the biggest investments a person will make in their lifetime, so it's important to think of its financial implication," Aubrey Bach, PayScale's head of alumni analytics, tells Business Insider. "PayScale's College ROI Report gives students and their families access to this exact information so that they can decide which school is the best fit for their career goals and their financial situation. We want to help keep students from taking out loans they won't be able to pay back."

With average student-loan debt hovering around $35,000, students and parents can't afford not to consider earning potential postgraduation, she says.

PayScale says, however, that this doesn't mean students should pursue only majors with the highest earning potential or make decisions about where to attend school based solely off college ROI rankings. They need to do what will make them happy — but it doesn't hurt to be educated on their potential return.

As it turns out, some schools are doing a much better job of setting their students up for success in the job market than others.

The top schools for college return on investment (not taking into account financial aid) this year are the California Institute of Technology, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvey Mudd College

All data used to produce PayScale's Return on Investment Package were collected from employees who successfully completed PayScale's employee survey. To calculate the ROI, PayScale looked at the investment in each college, which includes the cost of attending, as calculated by the cost for a graduate in 2015, on and off campus — and then looked at the 20-year return for each college, which is the expected future income stream. (Click here to read more about the methodology.)

PayScale's list can be sorted by the best value colleges for various majors and career paths, as well as ROI at a school overall. You can see which colleges are providing the best monetary return for their alumni via low cost of attendance, high earning potential, or a combination of the two.

See the full interactive list here, and keep scrolling for the top 22 colleges for your money. The "total cost" and "20 year ROI" figures are for students who live on campus.

On the court, LeBron James has won four MVPs and two NBA championships and has reached six consecutive NBA Finals — and he is still only 31 years old.

Off the court, he's equally relentless. Earlier this season, James signed a lifetime endorsement deal with Nike worth more than $1 billion — a move that was so big it is more like the merger of two corporations becoming the first athlete in the company's 44-year history to do so.

As a result of his unwavering successes on and off the court, James has amassed amazing cars and houses and still has time for his surprisingly normal family. King James is also well on his way toward his goal of becoming a billion-dollar athlete.

LeBron has made $169,643,842 in career NBA salary, good enough for fourth most all-time.

Apple Maps iOS 10

Apple Maps is going to get a lot more useful with iOS 10.

On Monday, the company announced that Apple Maps will get an "all new design" when the iPhone software update rolls out this fall. While the appearance will change slightly, it's really the functionalities and interface that are getting the big upgrade.

Here's a closer look at some of the biggest changes coming to Apple Maps.

Apple is opening up Maps to third-party developers, allowing for users to perform certain tasks within the Maps app. For example, you could request an Uber or book a reservation on OpenTable while using Maps without having to open another app separately.

You can also use Apple Pay within the app to pay for your Uber or Lyft.

The new design will also allow users to search for a variety of things based on his or her route. For example, if you've entered your destination, you can then search for restaurants or gas stations along the way.

The updated system will even tell you how much longer it will take to arrive with stops included.

Maps will also be able to make proactive suggestions based on where you are likely to go. For example, it can check your calendar and see when you have an appointment so when you open the app it will present a route to the location of your next meeting without you having to enter the address.

Meet Bozoma Saint John, the woman who single-handedly stole the show at WWDC

Bozoma Saint John undoubtedly stole the show while presenting the demo for the redesigned Apple Music app at WWDC on Monday.

Saint John, the first woman of color to present at an Apple keynote event, gave an impromptu performance of Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" and showed off her dance moves, sending Twitter abuzz.

So, who is this breakout star from this year's WWDC? Take a look.

Bozoma Saint John was born in Ghana, raised in Colorado, and graduated from Wesleyan in Connecticut.

She got her advertising career off the ground with gigs at fashion designer Ashley Stewart, Spike Lee's SpikeDBB, and Arnold Worldwide.

She used to work at Pepsi as the director of cultural branding, music and entertainment.

While an exec at Pepsi, Saint John spearheaded the soda brand's partnership and marketing campaign for Beyoncé's 2013 Super Bowl halftime show, a summer concert series, and a Nicki Minaj-fronted global campaign known as Pepsi Live for Now.

She's the head of consumer marketing at Apple, overseeing Apple Music, iTunes, and Beats.

Saint John joined Apple in August 2014 when the tech giant acquired Beats Electronics, which she joined in April 2014 as the SVP and head of global marketing.

A hedge fund manager made a killing on Microsoft-LinkedIn — here's what he thinks about the takeover

$

linkedin sign outdoorMicrosoft is buying LinkedIn for $26.2 billion.

The tech giant is paying $196 a share for LinkedIn, a premium of nearly 50% on LinkedIn's stock price before the deal was announced.

Chris Devlin, a portfolio manager at hedge fund Selective Wealth Management, pitched LNKD on SumZeroa social network for professional investors, several months ago. He is now sitting at a 66% return.

SumZero did a quick follow up with Devlin after the deal was announced. Here's what he had to say:

SumZero: How likely do you think it is that the merger will go through successfully? What roadblocks do you foresee, if any?

Christopher Devlin, Selective Wealth Management: We believe there is a high probability that the merger will go through successfully given the strength of Microsoft's (MSFT) balance sheet. The company had a net cash position of $65 billion at the end of the last quarter, making this a relatively simple acquisition for the company. The regulatory risk is low because the competitive landscape would not change significantly from an anti-trust/regulatory perspective. We believe the most likely roadblock is a rival bid, specifically from Salesforce. Microsoft is acquiring LinkedIn to improve the Dynamics Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and Office 365 enterprise offerings. A few weeks ago Microsoft was the first bidder for Marketo— another firm we owned at Selective  which is part of the automated marketing space and would integrate well with Dynamics. The activities of Microsoft lately strongly suggest the company is interested in building out a CRM that will be able to take considerable market share from Salesforce. If I owned Salesforce stock I'd be concerned about this announcement and would strongly consider an all-stock offer to purchase LinkedIn at a higher price. It would help ensure the competitive position of Salesforce even if Salesforce has to overpay.

Do you have a view on Microsoft at the moment?

We are updating our appraisal of Microsoft and considering purchasing shares. Microsoft is an excellent company and we believe this acquisition was very intelligent. We are glad to see Microsoft decline post-announcement; it may give us a chance to make a purchase.

Is this the best outcome for LinkedIn (LNKD) shareholders in your view?

It is extremely difficult to find companies that are of similar quality to LNKD in terms of competitive positioning and opportunity for growth. In 10 years LNKD would have been worth many multiples of the acquisition price paid today so we are not sure if the acquisition was the best outcome for shareholders. Performing a discounted cash flow on LNKD as a standalone company does suggest that the price paid was fair, but now we are left with the task of replacing such an outstanding company in our portfolio. It will be challenging for us.

HOLLYWOOD'S BIG PROBLEM: Here are the sequels that are bombing this year

$

Now You See Me 2

"Now You See Me 2" couldn't muster up the surprise success of its predecessor.

The sequel to the 2013 heist film earned $23 million in its opening weekend, while its original managed a better $29.3 million. That's not a huge difference, but it will be a disappointment to the studio executives who hoped to cash in on love for the first title.

"The Conjuring 2" actually came in first place at the box office this weekend, earning $40.3 million — only 3.6% less than its original.

But most sequels, at least so far this year, have been bombing.

There has long been talk of Hollywood having a "sequel problem"— "sequelitis" as Variety calls it.

There are many to choose from at the theater nowadays. Do you want to watch the latest installment in an ongoing superhero franchise? (Take your pick between "Captain America: Civil War,""Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," or "X-Men: Apocalypse.") Or a live-action remake of an old cartoon? (It's a lose-lose with "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.")

Studios are trying to build the next big Harry Potter or Marvel franchise, but not every film can be "Captain America," which has seen a steady increase in its domestic gross since the first time Chris Evans' Cap graced our screens in 2011.

Take a look to see which of this year's sequels so far couldn't live up to their originals. Really, it seems only "Captain America: Civil War" managed to escape this list. But don't worry, you still have "Independence Day: Resurgence,""Ice Age: Collision Course,""Jason Bourne,""Star Trek Beyond,""The Purge: Election Year,""Bridget Jones's Baby,""Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," "Ouija 2,""Underworld: Blood Wars," and "Bad Santa 2" to look forward to this year.

All earnings have been adjusted for inflation to match their 2016 counterparts and are sourced from Box Office Mojo. Sequels that are still in theaters have been compared based on opening-weekend grosses.

North America light pollution

Humanity is losing its ability to see the stars.

According to an unprecedented new map of light pollution, published by the journal Science Advances in June, some of the most populated areas of Earth no longer experience nighttime darkness.

In fact, more than 80% of us live under light polluted skies while 99% of people living in Europe and the United States are affected by it. And perhaps 1/3 of humanity can no longer see the Milky Way — the closest (and brightest) galaxy to our planet.

But light pollution doesn't just rob us of beautiful nighttime vistas and get in the way of astronomy: It also kills 300 million to 1 billion birds each year, wastes billions of dollars' worth of energy in the US annually, and keeps humans from sleeping well (we need complete darkness for our bodies to effectively release the hormones necessary for sleep).

We found the most light-polluted regions of Earth in the new atlas and have highlighted them here.

A new global atlas of light pollution isn't comforting.

Researchers used satellite data to measure skyglow — a scattering of artificial light that obscures our view of the cosmos — and broke down the data into colors that reveal the intensity of light pollution.

Europe has some of the worst light pollution on the planet. In fact, almost the entire continent is bathed in an uninterrupted nighttime skyglow.

apple tv

Last year, Apple introduced new Apple TV hardware.

This year, it's all about the new software.

When Apple released the fourth-generation Apple TV, it came with a new operating system called tvOS, an App Store for tvOS apps, and a host of new ways to connect to your screen using the new Siri remote control, which lets you navigate your Apple TV using your voice or the touchpad that's right on the remote.

At its WWDC keynote on Monday, Apple showed off a ton of new features coming soon to the Apple TV.

Take a look:

First, Apple announced some new apps coming to the Apple TV, including Sling TV, which has a great selection of live cable channels. It's a great alternative for cord-cutters.

Apple really focused on apps that have live TV and sports, trying to advertise the device as a cable-TV replacement.

Typical cable boxes can't handle gaming, but the Apple TV can. "NBA 2K" and "Minecraft: Story Mode" are coming to the Apple TV, among other titles.

Everything from tarantulas to lizards have been eaten alive and documented on the Internet. In 2012, a YouTube video showing a woman in Japan eating a live frog went viral, and a trend began.

However, eating live animals has been a tradition in many cultures for years. Outside of the one-off performances of extreme eaters, there are a few delicacies that are commonly served alive and kicking.

Here are seven traditional dishes that give a whole new meaning to "fresh."

Sannakji is a raw Korean octopus dish that squirms on the plate. Its recent popularity in Instagram videos has made it perhaps the most well-known live dish. Baby octopus is cut into small pieces, lightly seasoned in sesame oil and served immediately.

Cazu marzu means "rotten/putrid cheese" in English. It's a traditional sheep's milk cheese from Sardinia that contains live insect larvae — or maggots.

Sea Urchins may look prickly, but cultures around the world love cracking into them and eating the flesh raw. Scissors are used to cut open the shell and some people suck the innards out immediately, while others dine on sea urchins in a type of sushi called "uni."
