Plenty of exciting new shows are set to premiere in 2020, from reboots of beloved classics like Disney Plus' "Lizzie McGuire" and "Clueless" to original shows like HBO's "The Outsider."

Other series, like Hulu's "Normal People" and "Nine Perfect Strangers," will also make their debut in the coming year.

With so many new shows premiering in 2020, it can be tough to keep track of which shows to add to your watch list. That's why we've compiled the 12 TV shows we're most excited about that are premiering in 2020.

"The Outsider" is a new HBO thriller/drama series based on Stephen King's book of the same name.

Release date: January 12, 2020 on HBO

What it's about: "The Outsider" follows investigators as they try to solve mysteries surround the gruesome murder of an 11-year-old boy in a small town.

Why you should watch: The trailer alone has us sold on watching this murder mystery play out, with "Ozark" and "Arrested Development" actor Jason Bateman working both behind the camera as a director and costarring on the series. Add in Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, and the compelling Stephen King source material, and it looks like "The Outsider" could be an early entry for 2020's television highlights. — Kim Renfro

"Riverdale" spin-off "Katy Keene" will premiere in February.

Release date: February 6, 2020 on The CW

What it's about: "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale plays the titular role in this glitzy "Riverdale" spin-off from CW, which centers on an aspiring fashion designer and her three friends chasing their dreams in New York City. It's set around five years after "Riverdale" and based on characters from the Archie Comics.

Why you should watch: If the trailers are any indication, "Katy Keene" will be filled with humor, heart, hope, and musical numbers. Hale is joined on the series by "Riverdale" star Ashleigh Murray (Josie McCoy), Jonny Beauchamp (Jorge/Ginger Lopez), and Julia Chan (Pepper Smith).

For "Riverdale" fans looking for a lighter, less gory show with "Devil Wears Prada" and "Gossip Girl" vibes, "Katy Keene" will probably be a good fit. The titular character will also be part of an Archieverse crossover episode airing the day before "Katy Keene" officially premieres. — Olivia Singh

"Better Call Saul" is finally returning for its long-awaited fifth season in February.

Release date: Sunday, February 23 at 10 p.m. and Monday, February 24 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

What it's about: AMC's "Breaking Bad" prequel follows Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) before he was Walter White's criminal lawyer. Season after season, we see how the happy-go-lucky McGill, with big dreams of being an honest lawyer, was slowly hardened and pushed into becoming Saul Goodman.

Why you should watch: Fans have waited more than a year to see what happens next to Jimmy on "Breaking Bad." When the 10-episode fifth season picks up, McGill decides to start practicing the law under his pseudonym of Goodman. We're tremendously concerned about his partner-in-crime and love interest Kim (Rhea Seehorn), whose been having a bit of an emotional break of her own in secret, and who never appears on "Breaking Bad." If you're a fan of the original show, expect to see more of fan favorite, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito).

In addition to seeing Jimmy's transformation, the series gives us tiny black-and-white glimpses of what happened to his character after "Breaking Bad" concluded. The prequel series is just as good as — if not better than — the original. Kirsten Acuna

"Doom Patrol" is one of the best superhero TV shows you're probably not watching.

Release date: July 20, 2019 on the DC Universe app and HBO Max

What it's about: A quirky group of misfit super-powered humans ranging from a brain in a robot (voiced by Brendan Fraser) to a young woman with 64 personalities and superpowers (Jane Guerrero) are forced to work together when the world is threatened.

Why you should watch: Think of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" mixed with the raunchy self-awareness of "Deadpool" and that's "Doom Patrol." The ludicrously unapologetic superhero series masterfully maneuvers between the past and present to showcase the lives of its rag-tag group all while fighting Nazis, themselves, a rat named Admiral Whiskers, and more.

The best part of the series is Alan Tudyk's villainous Mr. Nobody who breaks the fourth wall and hilariously narrates the entire series. — Kirsten Acuna

The third season of "Westworld" is sure to bring more mind-bending drama to HBO.

Release date: TBD (expected around spring 2020) on HBO

What it's about: Artificial intelligence technology has reached a point where robots (called "hosts") and humans are nearly indistinguishable, and a decades-long theme park experiment gone disastrously wrong has led to the start of an uprising.

Why you should watch: "Westworld" creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are making some of the most compelling and brain-twisting dystopian TV out there right now. The third season looks like a promising continuation of the bleak themes associated with manipulation of technology and the boundaries of human life as we know it.

The second season unfolded like a sometimes-excruciatingly complex puzzle box, but with our timeline in hand and minds open, we're eager to see where this unpredictable drama goes next. — Kim Renfro

"Succession" is one of the best dramas (or honestly, comedies) on television right now.

Release date: TBD (expected around summer 2020) on HBO

What it's about: The Roy family, a group of one-percenters who own a powerhouse media business, are in constant turmoil as the head of the house Logan Roy wavers in choosing which child will take over the company.

Why you should watch: The first two seasons of "Succession" did an astounding job weaving between biting satire and enthralling drama, bringing legions of cult followers to the fandom thanks to memorable expletive-laden insults and the Shakespearean style of family infighting. If you've already been sleeping on this HBO gem, don't make the mistake of missing out next year, too. — Kim Renfro

"The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" will carry on Captain America's legacy after "Endgame."

Release date: TBD (slated for fall 2020) on Disney Plus

What it's about: The Disney Plus series will feature two Marvel superheroes that played a major role in Captain America's movie arc: Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier. Little is known about the show's plot, but after the events of "Avengers: Endgame"— spoiler, if you somehow still need it — we'll presumably watch the two grapple with the loss of the Steve Rogers they knew, as well as Wilson's journey to become the new Captain America. Helmut Zemo, the villain from "Captain America: Civil War," and Sharon Carter, SHIELD agent and onetime Rogers squeeze, will also play a role.

Why you should watch: Cap passing the shield to Wilson, who has largely played a sidekick role in MCU thus far, was one of the more affecting moments in "Endgame"— especially considering how often the franchise has relegated its black heroes to sidekick roles. Seeing him take on the Captain America mantle will be emotional. Plus, I'm every fan of the MCU has a soft spot for Barnes, who has really been put through the ringer. Here's hoping he finally finds some peace post-Thanos. — Callie Ahlgrim

"Normal People" is an upcoming adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel of the same name.

Release date: TBD on Hulu

What it's about: Much like Rooney's novel of the same name, the show will focus on Marianne and Connell, high school classmates who fall in love but have to overcome peer pressure, social differences, and failures in their own relationship as they grow into adults.

Why you should watch: Rooney's novel was a critical success when it was released in the US in April of this year, and it'll be exciting to see her characters make their screen debut on Hulu. While her yearning, heartbreaking writing style was part of what made the book so good, Marianne and Connell's romance (or lack thereof) is still rife with dramatic moments that will surely make for an excellent TV show. — Libby Torres

An adaptation of the novel "Nine Perfect Strangers" is coming to Hulu.

Release date: TBD (slated for late 2020) on Hulu

What it's about: The novel by Liane Moriarty — who also wrote "Big Little Lies," which the HBO series was based — follows a group of Australians who all wind up at the Tranquillum House, a "boutique health and wellness resort." According to a rave review from the New York Times, each person's motivations for the getaway are explored throughout the story — whether it's a woman with low self-esteem, a family grappling with a recent death, or a couple trying to salvage their marriage. The domineering director of Tranquillum House, Masha Dmitrichenko, promises her guests that their lives will change in 10 days.

Why you should watch: The adaptation will star "Big Little Lies" cornerstone Nicole Kidman and be co-written David E. Kelley, who also worked on the celebrated HBO show. Given Moriarty's knack for creating complex, interesting characters and Hulu's recruitment of both Kidman and Kelley, "Nine Perfect Strangers" is sure to be a riveting delight. — Callie Ahlgrim

An adaptation of Bong Joon-Ho's 2013 film "Snowpiercer" will premiere in 2020.

Release date: TBD on TNT

What it's about: The new TNT series is a reboot of the 2013 film, and, like the film, will follow a group of human survivors stuck on a train that endlessly circles the post apocalyptic, frozen earth.

Why you should watch: Bong Joon-Ho's film, which stars Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, and Octavia Spencer, is a masterpiece, but doesn't explore the politics of the train (or the events that led to the collapse of humanity) in depth, mostly due to time constraints. But with a TV show, the "Snowpiercer" world can be explored more fully, even if the characters and plot is similar.

"Run" is a new comedy series from "Fleabag" creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Release date: TBD on HBO

What it's about: Without a trailer, we know little about "Run" other than the short synopsis shared by HBO: "Ruby, a woman living a humdrum existence, gets a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame."

Why you should watch: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the woman responsible for both recent breakout hits "Fleabag" and "Killing Eve," is both co-executive producing and costarring on "Run." The two lead actors, Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson, are phenomenal performers we can't wait to see share the screen together. This is yet another HBO series you should keep an eye on in 2020. — Kim Renfro

A revival of "Lizzie McGuire" is set to air next year.

Release date: TBD on Disney Plus

What it's about: The reboot of the classic Disney show will follow a grown-up Lizzie McGuire as she navigates life and love in 2019 Brooklyn. Numerous characters from the original, including Lizzie's best friend/love interest Gordo, will appear on the new version of the show

Why you should watch: With most of the original cast attached, Disney Plus' reboot of "Lizzie McGuire" will be a must-watch for fans of the 2000s show. Plus, the concept sounds super intriguing, and who doesn't want to see grown-up versions of Lizzie, Gordo, et. al as they live their best lives in New York City? — Libby Torres

Most landlords only hope their renters pay on time, keep a tidy space, and don't disturb the neighbors.

But Susan Wojcicki's renters — Google cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin — ended up offering up a bit more: the chance to become employee No. 16 in 1998 at a young search-engine startup called Google.

Of course, it's taken more than this incredible circumstance for Wojcicki to rise in the ranks at Google. From expanding the company's ad business to persuading its founders to purchase an up-and-coming video-sharing service called YouTube, Wojcicki has played a vital role in Google's becoming one of the world's most valuable companies.

Here's a glimpse at Wojcicki's life and her rise at Google from employee No. 16 to YouTube's CEO:

Wojcicki is the oldest of three sisters. Her youngest sister, Anne Wojcicki, is the cofounder and CEO of the genetics company, 23andMe. Anne Wojcicki would go on to marry — and later divorce — Google cofounder Sergey Brin.

Wojcicki attended Harvard University, where she studied history and literature. Years later, she said that an introductory computer-science course she took her senior year "changed how I think about everything."

Upon completing her MBA in 1998, Wojcicki returned to the Bay Area. She got married in August to Troper, and the couple settled down in Menlo Park. Wojcicki took up a job in marketing at computer-chip maker Intel.

The couple paid $600,000 to buy a four-bedroom, 2,000-square foot house, at 232 Santa Margarita Ave. To help pay the mortgage, Wojcicki rented the garage to two Stanford doctoral students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were working on their new search-engine company, called Google.

Wojcicki charged the two $1,700 a month to rent her garage space. In a 2013 commencement speech, Wojcicki recalled "late nights together in the garage eating pizza and M&Ms, where (Brin and Page) talked to me about how their technology could change the world."

One day while working at Intel, Wojcicki was halted in her work because Google was down, and she wasn't able to locate an important piece of info. That's when Wojcicki realized how dependent she had become on "the site developed by those two dudes in my garage," and she decided she wanted to be a part of it.

In 1999, Wojcicki joined the Google team as the its 16th employee. She was named the company's first marketing manager, and was given a "shoestring" budget for heading up Google's marketing efforts.

Wojcicki was already four months pregnant when she joined Google, and became the company's first employee to go on maternity leave. Joining a 15-person startup while pregnant "was a bit of a leap," she told Glamour in a 2014 interview. "But sometimes you have to do the right thing for you right now."

One of Wojcicki's earliest projects was to liven up the Google logo for holidays and special events. Her first doodle was an alien landing on Google, and now Google Doodle drawings appear daily on the homepage.

In 2003, Wojcicki came up with an idea that drastically increased Google's advertising potential: She suggested that Google's ad offerings be available not only within search, but on websites and blogs across the internet. The product became known as AdSense, and allowed Google to bring in over $100 billion in ad revenue in 2018.

Wojcicki took charge of Google's free video-sharing platform, called Google Videos, when it launched in 2005. The first video she uploaded was "a purple Muppet singing a nonsense song," and her kids' strong reaction to the video helped her to realize the power of user-generated content and its ability to attract visitors.

Yet around that time, another free video-sharing website called YouTube was generating buzz, and beating out Google's product by making user-uploaded content immediately available to watch. Wojcicki credits a video on YouTube, showing two boys in China lip-synching to the Backstreet Boys, for convincing her Google should buy the platform.

In 2006, Wojcicki "worked up some spreadsheets" to justify the purchase of YouTube to Google's cofounders, and Google bought YouTube that year for $1.65 billion.

In October 2010, Wojcicki was promoted from vice president to senior vice president overseeing ad products. At the time, there were only eight SVPs at Google.

By February 2014, Wojcicki replaced Google's ninth employee, Salar Kamangar, as the CEO of YouTube.

In her first year as YouTube's CEO, Wojcicki went on maternity leave for the birth of her fifth child. The chief exec wrote an op-ed article in The Wall Street Journal, arguing that the US should become a leader in maternity-leave benefits. "Support for motherhood shouldn't be a matter of luck; it should be a matter of course," she wrote.

Wojcicki revealed in 2016 that she and her husband maintain strict rules for separating work and personal life. She unplugs for a few hours at night and won't check her email in order to increase her productivity. "If you are working 24/7, you're not going to have any interesting ideas," Wojcicki told the Wall Street Journal.

Wojcicki and her husband have five children, whom the YouTube CEO imposes screen time limits on to help them focus on the "present." She'll sometimes take away their phones, especially on vacation, and restricts how much they use YouTube.

Over the years, Wojcicki has been an outspoken proponent of closing the gender gap in the tech industry. "Tech is an incredible force that will change our world in ways we can't anticipate," Wojcicki told Forbes in a 2018 interview. "If that force is only 20% to 30% women, that is a problem."

In 2017, she wrote an article in Vanity Fair titled"How to Break Up the Silicon Valley Boys' Club."

Later that year, Wojcicki wrote an op-ed article for Fortune where she described having to explain to her daughter that there are no biological reasons that fewer women are in tech.

Wojcicki has oversaw the release of major products, including YouTube Gaming, YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, and YouTube TV. Under Wojcicki's leadership, YouTube has grown to 1.8 billion monthly users — just shy of Facebook's 2 billion users. It has also become the most popular social network among teenagers.

15 major ways breakfast foods have changed over the past decade

breakfast evolution

  • Breakfast foods have changed a lot throughout the 2010s.
  • The past few years also welcomed new items like cronuts and Trader Joe's Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.
  • In 2014, fast-food chains like Taco Bell launched new breakfast menus.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more.

From dining out to cooking at home, what people eat for breakfast has changed quite a bit in the past 10 years.

Here are some of the many ways breakfast foods have changed throughout the 2010s.

Breakfast tacos and burritos have become even more mainstream.

Although breakfast tacos and burritos have been around for years, they became more mainstream throughout the 2010s with a number of fast-food chains like Sonic, Taco Bell, and Chick-fil-A adding them to their menus.

Avocado toast has reigned supreme for the past few years.

"Breakfast trends have evolved so much since 2009. For example, avocado toast has reached almost every restaurant and keeps evolving with exciting toppings," Michele Ragussis, chef at HUNGRY NYC, told Insider.

The #avocadotoast tag has been used over 1.3 million times on Instagram since 2010 — and the dish is still going strong as the decade comes to a close.

Today, many chefs are still putting their own spins on the dish with creative toppings that range from radishes to burrata.

Generally, breakfast toast has become its own category of cuisine.

"The number-one takeover has been creative toasts, which started with avocado and expanded into both sweet and savory types," Chef Ariane Resnick, author of "How to Be Well When You're Not," told Insider.

Also known as artisanal toast, these creations can feature specially made bread and toppings for a totally unique toast-eating experience.

Popular brands debuted lines of dairy-free yogurts.

"Non-dairy yogurts and kefirs have also come on the scene in a big way,"Chef Judy Joo, author of "Korean Food Made Simple" and "Judy Joo's Korean Soul Food," told Insider.

In 2019, even major yogurt brands like Chobani and Yoplait got on board by releasing entire lines of dairy-free yogurts, which usually contain coconut milk or almond milk.

Throughout the 2010s, a number of brands debuted new dessert-inspired cereals.

Although sweet cereal has been around for decades, it seems like more cereal brands than ever debuted dessert-inspired or candy-inspired options throughout the 2010s.

The famous Easter candy Peeps became a marshmallow-flavored cereal and iconic store-bought desserts like Twinkies, Honey Buns, and Donettes were made into cereals as well.

The decade also welcomed a Drumstick ice cream-inspired cereal in vanilla and mint-chocolate varieties.

Overnight oats became a convenient, make-ahead breakfast staple.

"Overnight oats are becoming one of the most popular breakfasts to date, and it's easy to see why with their versatile and natural nature," said Kara Landau, New York-based registered dietitian behind the Travelling Dietitian.

The dish is usually made out of rolled oats that soak in milk for a few hours and it's known for being a convenient, make-ahead breakfast that's easy to customize with ingredients like fruit or chocolate.

Many chain restaurants have created dishes for those who follow dairy-free, gluten-free, and plant-based diets.

"With the prevalence of dietary identity taking so many forms, restaurants have needed to adapt to serve their guests, and I think menus have reflected this," said Chef Chris Audler of District Donuts.

In 2019, IHOP debuted an entire gluten-friendly pancake and waffle menu as part of its all-day breakfast.

That same year, Hardee's began selling The Beyond Breakfast Sausage Biscuit, a vegan-friendly breakfast option, and Tim Hortons added vegan-friendly Beyond Meat breakfast choices to its permanent menus in select locations throughout Canada.

Trader Joe's dropped its iconic Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.

In 2017, Trader Joe's first debuted its now-famous Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.

Created to mimic the flavors of traditional everything-bagel toppings like sesame seeds and roasted garlic, this seasoning adds a dash of flavor to everything from dips to avocado toast.

Picture-perfect dishes and over-the-top brunch cocktails have seen a rise in popularity over the past decade.

"Social media has also definitely affected food in that it has to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye," said Paola Guasp, owner, chef, and co-founder of Amara Kitchen. "I've noticed that a lot of people are using more colorful foods in their dishes to make them more photogenic."

And as social media has become more popular, so have Instagram-worthy "more is more" brunch dishes and cocktails.

"Everything needs to be more photo-worthy than the last, which tends to make menu items a lot more creative, bigger and colorful," said Elizabeth Blau, founder and CEO of restaurant-development company Blau + Associates. "What used to be a simple Bloody Mary with a celery stalk and a couple of olives has now evolved into a cocktail that could pass for a full meal topped off with things like deviled eggs and chicken wings."

Throughout the 2010s, breakfast continued to become more convenient and portable.

Grab-and-go dishes and ready-made drinks or shakes have dominated the breakfast scene throughout the 2010s, Chef Rosalind "Roz" Tucker of Tucker's Catering told Insider.

"Portability has grown in importance, with make-ahead items like overnight oats, breakfast cookies or bars, and pre-prepped smoothies replacing eggs, omelets, or bowls of cereal," added Resnick.

In 2013, Cronuts made their debut.

In 2013, famed pastry chef Dominique Ansel released the cronut at his New York City bakery.

Described as a cross between a doughnut and a croissant, the cronut was an instant hit, with long lines forming at Dominique Ansel Bakery and cronuts selling out regularly.

Years later, it's still an iconic mash-up breakfast choice, and there's even a way to pre-order your cronut online

A number of fast-food restaurants and coffee chains released new breakfast options in the late 2010s.

There was no shortage of new options on fast-food breakfast menus during the past decade.

Earlier this year, Burger King released the French-toast sandwich, as well as the maple-waffle sandwich.

Dunkin', branching out beyond donuts, began selling the Power Breakfast Sandwich, which contains an egg-white omelet, turkey sausage, and cheese.

And, in 2017, Starbucks launched its sous-vide egg bites, which are made using the French technique of slow-cooking vacuum-sealed food in hot water.

And even more fast-food chains began selling breakfast in the 2010s.

Although some chains have been selling breakfast for multiple decades, a lot of fast-food empires joined the game in the mid-to-late 2010s.

Taco Bell's breakfast menu made its debut in 2014, with options including the Fiesta Potato Grilled Breakfast Burrito and Sausage Crunchwrap.

In 2010, Subway added egg-based sandwiches to its morning menu, even though by 2018 locations were able to opt-out of serving them.

And recently, Wendy's announced it's testing an entire breakfast menu, including options such as the Breakfast Baconator and Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich. It's set to officially sell breakfast in all of its locations in 2020.

Chia and other puddings have become an innovative, fun breakfast choice.

Chia seeds have been around for centuries, but they didn't become too popular in the breakfast-pudding game until recently.

To make chia pudding, you soak chia seeds in any liquid, typically non-dairy milk. It's become especially popular to prepare chia pudding in a mason jar for a simple and portable breakfast.

For the first time, McDonald's began serving breakfast foods all day.

In 2015, fast-food giant McDonald's started serving breakfast foods throughout the day, making it possible to snack on crispy hash browns or McGriddles almost any time

THEN AND NOW: The biggest celebrity transformations of the past decade

meghan markle then and now

  • A lot can change in a decade. Some of today's most famous figures were just barely starting out in their careers in 2010.
  • In 2010, Meghan Markle had yet to begin starring in "Suits," which would eventually lead her to her husband Prince Harry— and a royal status.
  • Major music stars had very different images 10 years ago, such as Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Nicki Minaj.
  • You won't believe how much these 18 celebrities have changed since 2010.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

Do you remember what you were doing in 2010? The most popular song of the year was "TiK ToK" by Kesha (who still had a dollar-sign in her name), the highest-grossing movie was "Toy Story 3," and shows like "Lost" and "24" had just come to an end.

Plus, some of our favorite celebrities of 2019 were just starting out in their careers, like Ariana Grande and Harry Styles, while others were famous — but not as famous as they would be 10 years later.

Keep scrolling to learn more about the biggest celebrity transformations of the 2010s.

THEN: In 2010, Meghan Markle was still a year away from her most famous role to date, Rachel on "Suits."

In 2010, 29-year-old Markle had only appeared in a handful of one-off TV episodes, including "90210,""Fringe,""CSI," and "Without a Trace." She began starring on "Suits" when it premiered in 2011 as one of its main characters, Rachel Zane. Markle also now-famously appeared in a chips commercial.

She also married her now ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, in 2011. The two were married for two years and split up in 2013.

NOW: She became royalty when she married Prince Harry in 2018.

Markle, 38, is truly proof of how much can change in 10 years. When the decade started, she was an actress on a legal procedural ... and now? She's easily one of the most famous women in the world, and the first inkling of diversity that the royal family has ever seen.

She retired from acting to focus full-time on her royal duties and philanthropic endeavors, became a mom to adorable baby Archie, and is frequently cited as one of the most influential women in fashion.

Not that it's all been bliss. Markle's family drama has become tabloid fodder, and she's been  attacked by the media.

THEN: Justin Bieber released "Baby" in 2010, which quickly became the most-disliked video on YouTube.

A 16-year-old Bieber released his debut album, "My World 2.0," in 2010. It was the beginning of what was known as "Bieber Fever." Fans, or Beliebers, all across the world became infatuated with his perfectly coiffed hair and precocious songs about lonely girls and falling in love. The album has since been certified triple platinum.

Bieber also starred in a part-concert, part-biopic called "Never Say Never," which premiered in January 2011. It has grossed almost $100 million worldwide.

Also in 2010? The beginning of his relationship with Selena Gomez, which is somehow still being talked about to this day.

NOW: He has fully left behind his teeny-bopper status and hasn't released an album since 2015. He also got married to model Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin).

Bieber, now a wise 25, has weathered more than a few set of scandals. There's the time he urinated in a bucket, or when he had to leave his monkey behind in Germany, or when he got arrested in 2014 for a suspected DUI. He was also caught on camera egging his neighbor's house.

But slowly, he began to rehab his image. He was the star of his own Comedy Central roast in 2015, which set the stage for his first album in three years, "Purpose." It successfully cemented his comeback, garnering him his first No. 1 song ("What Do You Mean?") and another No. 1 album.

His on-and-off relationship with Gomez ended in 2018, soon after which he started dating his now-wife Hailey Baldwin. The two celebrated their wedding again this summer.

While Bieber hasn't released an album of his own since 2015, he has appeared on a few popular songs of different genres, including country-pop "10,000 Hours" alongside Dan and Shay, electro-pop "Friends" with BloodPop, and DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," with Chance the Rapper, Quavo, and Lil Wayne.

THEN: Ariana Grande was best known as the quirky Cat on Nickelodeon's "Victorious."

In 2010, 17-year-old Grande began starring in "Victorious," which premiered that March. She remained on the show for all four seasons, and even got her own spin-off, "Sam and Cat," which debuted in 2013, and ended the next year.

Notably, Grande was forced to dye her hair fire-engine red every other week, which she since revealed damaged her hair so much that she began wearing extensions — which led to her trademark high ponytail.

Also in 2013, she released her debut album, "Yours Truly," which spawned her first hit song, "The Way." It features future boyfriend Mac Miller.

NOW: Recently nominated for five Grammys, Grande was the most-streamed female artist of the decade on Spotify.

It's been a decade of ups and downs for the 26-year-old star. She released two more albums ("My Everything" and "Dangerous Woman") and began dating rapper Mac Miller. During her "Dangerous Woman" tour, her concert at the Manchester Arena was bombed, resulting in the deaths of 22 concertgoers. The experience led to Grande developing PTSD, and she took an extended break from music.

However, she had a triumphant return in 2018 with "Sweetener," which was released after a summer full of obsessing about her whirlwind relationship with comedian Pete Davidson, who scored his very own interlude on the album.

But, sadly, in September of that year, Miller died of a drug overdose— and she broke off her engagement to Davidson. While she was openly devastated, it also resulted in a creative burst of energy, and she released her second album in six months, "thank u, next" which gave her her first two No. 1 singles, five Grammy nominations, and a gigantic world tour. We can't wait to see what she'll do next.

THEN: Miley Cyrus was still starring in her Disney Channel show, "Hannah Montana," in 2010, though she was starting to branch out. She starred in "The Last Song" that year.

Cyrus, then 18, was starting to chafe at her Disney Channel image. In December 2010, a video of her smoking a bong (which was reportedly filled with salvia, not weed) went viral. "Hannah Montana" ended the next year.

NOW: She's tried out many personas, including hip hop ("Bangerz"), stoner ("Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz"), and country ("Younger Now").

After years of Disney Channel-approved fun, it's understandable why Cyrus, now 27, rebelled so hard after the show ended. The era of "Bangerz" was unleashed on the world in 2013, and who can forget her famous twerking performance with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs?

Post "Bangerz," Cyrus sang about her pets on "Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz" and got back together with ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth. She then pivoted towards her Nashville roots with "Younger Now"— and returned to her popstar days as Ashley O in an episode of "Black Mirror."

But recently, Cyrus has pivoted a bit back towards her wild child days. She announced her separation from her husband, Hemsworth, began a whirlwind romance with "Hills" star Kaitlynn Carter, and is now in a PDA-filled relationship with Australian singer Cody Simpson.

THEN: Harry Styles was just one of five members of British boy band One Direction.

Styles was 16 years old when he joined One Direction while on the British reality TV show, "The X Factor." He, alongside his four bandmates, auditioned as solo acts but were put into the band by the judges.

One Direction pretty much revitalized the boy band genre after years of dormancy. They placed third overall in the competition but started a global phenomenon — and Styles was the clear center of it all, with his frequent solos, cheeky British charm, and glorious head of hair.

NOW: He's a fashion icon and set to release his second solo album, "Fine Line."

Styles, now 25, is the clear break-out star of One Direction, which went on hiatus in 2015 after four No. 1 albums (and one No. 2 album). He recently announced his second album and world tour, during which he is playing a staggering three shows at Madison Square Garden.

He frequently breaks the internet with his song releases, including the lead-up to "Adore You" which coincided with a tourism ad for a fictional island called Eroda, that led to multiple Reddit threads dedicated to figuring out the puzzle.

Add all that to his burgeoning acting career (he starred in 2017's "Dunkirk"), and his rising status in the fashion world. He was one of the co-chairs for the 2019 Met Gala, and he has his own fragrance and ad campaign with Gucci. Styles, to be frank, is on top of the world — there's no telling what the next decade will bring.

THEN: Shia LaBeouf had already starred in two "Transformers" films, plus "Indiana Jones" by 2010. He looked like he was poised to become the next big action star.

LaBeouf, then 24, was one of the hottest young actors in Hollywood. He had seemingly successfully managed to transition from the child star of "Even Stevens" to a full-blown adult movie star.

However, the cracks would soon begin to show. LaBeouf got arrested in 2014, was charged with disorderly conduct, and checked into rehab. He was again arrested in 2017, and bodycam footage showed what Insider called a "profane and troubling tirade."

NOW: He's earning Oscar buzz for his semi-autobiographical film "Honey Boy," after a confusing few years.

LaBeouf, now 33, is slowly re-emerging, with appearances on "Hot Ones" and "Ellen." His new movie, "Honey Boy," which he wrote and stars in, has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Few can forget when he rolled up to a red carpet premiere with a giant paper bag on his head reading "I Am Not Famous Anymore" in 2014." That same year, he sat in a room silently for six days as visitors came in and out, as part of an art exhibit called "#IAMSORRY."

However, those days are behind him. LaBeouf is sober, and credits his friendship with his "Peanut Butter Falcon" co-star Zack Gottsagen with helping him get clean.

THEN: Kim Kardashian released her single "Jam (Turn It Up)" in 2010, and she was on her fifth season of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

Undoubtedly, the Kardashians were famous in 2010 — but it was different back then. Kim Kardashian was still having trouble getting people to take her seriously, and her dubious attempts at a music career didn't help. Neither did her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011.

The then-30-year-old released her very first perfume in 2010, but it was among other dubious business decisions, like the Kardashian credit card or her line of cupcake mixes.

NOW: Besides becoming a complete superstar, she's studying for the bar exam and dabbling in prison reform.

Yes, the 39-year-old is a lifestyle guru and mogul, with successful fragrances, a cosmetics brand, a shapewear line, a game, and a set of emojis. She's also a mother of four and married to one of the biggest rappers on the planet and she's an increasingly sought after fashion icon and model.

But besides all of those things, Kardashian is also starting to give back in a meaningful way. She's been involved with the release of over a dozen inmates, has met with the president, and is apprenticing with a lawyer to qualify for the bar exam in 2022. As she would say, not bad for a girl with no talent.

THEN: Khloe Kardashian was the sassy younger sister of Kim who frequently got into trouble.

If Kim was the famous one, and Kourtney was the serious one, then Khloe has always been the wild child. She was arrested for a DUI during the first season of "KUWTK"— spawning the incredible meme of her older sister Kim taking selfies while Khloe was "going to jail"— when she was just 23.

In 2010, at 26, she had somewhat calmed down — though she did marry Lamar Odom a month after meeting him in September 2009. The two starred in spin-off "Khloe and Lamar" for two seasons in 2011 and 2012.

NOW: She's a mom to an adorable daughter, True, and hosts a show called "Revenge Body."

There's no way around it — she's been through the ringer this past decade. In 2013, she filed for divorce from Odom after it was revealed he had cheated on her numerous times, though she stood by his side while he recovered from a nearly fatal overdose in 2015. Their divorce was eventually finalized in 2016.

After that, Kardashian began dating Tristan Thompson and became pregnant with his daughter after years of publicly acknowledging fertility struggles. However, on the eve of her due date, Thompson was apparently caught on tape cheating on Kardashian. Though the two reconciled, their relationship fully imploded after Thompson reportedly kissed Jordyn Woods— aka the best friend of Kardashian's little sister, Kylie Jenner.

Kardashian also got into fitness and hosts "Revenge Body," and she has written a book, "Strong Looks Better Naked." She also co-founded Good American, which originally started out as a line of jeans, but has since expanded to clothing and activewear.

THEN: Kylie Jenner was just 13.

Her main plot points on "KUWTK" had to do with her sister Kendall, as the two of them dealt with typical teen drama and played pranks on their older siblings.

NOW: She's all grown up — with a kid of her own and a billion-dollar company.

Today, Jenner, 22, is the world's youngest billionaire and has over 150 million followers on Instagram. She founded the cosmetics brand Kylie Cosmetics and recently sold 51% in a $600 million deal.

Personally speaking, she is currently taking a break from her relationship with Travis Scott, the father of 22-month-old Stormi.

Jenner also eventually admitted to getting lip fillers after years of speculation.

THEN: Lady Gaga was mainly known for her off-the-wall fashion and her brand of pop music unlike anything we'd heard before.

In the year 2010, Lady Gaga walked the VMAs red carpet wearing a dress made out of meat. That's really all you need to know about who Lady Gaga was in 2010: a 24-year-old singer with a penchant for the theatrical, in everything from her style to her music.

"The Fame Monster" was released in 2009 and contained hits such as "Telephone,""Alejandro," and most iconically, "Bad Romance." The year that she walked the VMAs red carpet donned in meat, she had been nominated a record 13 times— and it's hard to overstate the impact that "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster" has had on this decade of pop music.

NOW: Gaga released a folk-tinged album, "Joanne," and was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Ally in "A Star Is Born."

Over the last 10 years, Gaga, now 33, has released four albums: "Born This Way,""Artpop,""Cheek to Cheek," and "Joanne." All four are completely different from one another. For instance, "Cheek to Cheek" is a traditional pop vocal album featuring Tony Bennett, while "Artpop" features music produced by popular EDM artists like Madeon and Zedd.

Insider made the case for naming Gaga the artist of the decade, saying she's "more than just a pop star — she's a pioneer."

Gaga has also branched out into acting, winning a Golden Globe for her performance in "American Horror Story: Hotel" and dozens of acting nominations for her part in "A Star Is Born." She won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the movie's lead single, "Shallow."

THEN: Nicki Minaj was one of very few, if not the only, mega successful female rappers at the time.

Minaj, then 28, released her first studio album in 2010, "Pink Friday." The rapper came in at a time when other female rappers had faded from the spotlight — so she was a breath of fresh air.

The album spawned several inescapable songs that year, including "Super Bass" and "Moment 4 Life," which started the speculation that she and Drake were dating, which was never confirmed.

Along with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, Minaj embraced brightly colored hair, wild fashion choices, and a campy aesthetic in the beginning of the decade.

NOW: She's still rapping, but her position as Queen of Rap may have slipped a little.

Minaj arguably gave rise to Cardi B and Lizzo— both of whom are currently beating her on the charts. She's also called out the music industry in a few memorable ways, including tweeting at MTV about "Anaconda" not receiving a nod for Video of the Year — which Taylor Swift inexplicably thought was about her. And who can forget the iconic "Miley, what's good?"

Musically, the 36-year-old is still putting out hits. While she has yet to reach the top of the Hot 100, she released "Queen," in 2018, which peaked at No. 2, and collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion — another female rapper who can credit Minaj with paving the way for her success — and Ty Dolla Sign in "Hot Girl Summer."

She recently dramatically announced she was retiring in a tweet, but she walked back those statements in an interview with the Shade Room.

THEN: Steve Carell was primarily known for his role as Michael Scott on "The Office"— not exactly a sex symbol.

In 2010, Carell's two biggest roles were that of a 40-year-old virgin, and a constantly cringeworthy boss, Michael Scott. It's safe to say that he wasn't exactly a sex symbol.

The then-48-year-old was also primarily known as a comedy star, having come up through "The Daily Show,""Anchorman,""The Office,""40 Year Old Virgin," and even "Despicable Me."

NOW: He's a silver fox who focuses on dramatic roles, like those in "Foxcatcher,""Beautiful Boy," and "Welcome to Marwen."

Beginning in 2014 with his Oscar-nominated role in "Foxcatcher," the 57-year-old has also steered clear of comedic roles in favor of dramatic ones. Over the last five years alone, he played an investor in "The Big Short," the flamboyant tennis icon Bobby Riggs in "Battle of the Sexes," and a dad struggling with his son's drug addiction in "Beautiful Boy."

THEN: Rihanna released her fifth album, "Louder," in 2010 and was a bona fide pop star.

Rihanna was certainly one of the biggest musicians on the planet in 2010. That year, she released "Love the Way You Lie" with Eminem, which was one of the biggest songs of the year.

In 2010 she also released "Louder," which contained singles "Only Girl (In the World),""What's My Name?," and "S&M." In other words, it'd be a reasonable assumption to make that the 22-year-old was at the top of her game ...

NOW: Rihanna has become, for lack of a better word, a boss. Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty have brought her huge success in the business world.

Rihanna, now 31, was apparently just getting started in 2010, musically and otherwise. She released her eighth — and best — album in 2016, "Anti," which contained a cover of a Tame Impala song just because she could, soulful ballads like "Kiss It Better" and "Love on the Brain," and ultra-smash hit "Work."

She also created the makeup line, Fenty Beauty, which has been praised for its inclusive range of foundation shadesand Savage X Fenty, a lingerie brand made for people of all shapes and sizes. Its fashion show has been credited with edging out the historic Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which took its last bow in 2018.

It's no wonder Insider called her one of the artists of the decade.

THEN: Chris Pratt was best known for his role as the chubby, lovable goof Andy Dwyer on "Parks and Recreation."

In 2010, "Parks and Recreation" had only been on for a year — though Pratt, then 31, had already made his mark. His character, the lovable doofus Andy, was only supposed to be part of the show for the first season, but everyone on set loved him so much that they changed their minds, and let Andy stick around Pawnee for all seven seasons.

Pratt's weight went up and down in the beginning of the decade, as he got svelte for his role as a Navy SEAL in "Zero Dark Thirty," though he soon gained the weight back. At the time, he was married to actress Anna Faris.

"I think [Faris] is hedging her bets that one day I'll be fat again, and she'll say, 'Remember, honey, I always told you I preferred you this way,'"he told GQ.

NOW: He's helmed not one but two gigantic franchises ("Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World") ... and got extremely ripped.

Soon after "Zero Dark Thirty," Pratt made his physical transformation permanent when he got cast as Peter "Star Lord" Quill in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," and then as the newest hero Owen in the "Jurassic World" films. He's also the voice of Emmett in surprise hit "The Lego Movie" and its sequel "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part." In other words, it's been a pretty lucrative decade for the the 40-year-old.

Pratt also married Katherine Schwarzenegger this summer, after shocking the world with the announcement of his divorce from Faris in 2017.

THEN: Taylor Swift was a sugary sweet country singer who sang about ex-boyfriends dumping her on the phone.

In 2010, Swift released her third album, "Speak Now," which the 20-year-old wrote herself, an iconic flex on critics who doubted her songwriting ability. It won Swift her second Country Album of the Year at the Grammys, and it was her second consecutive chart-topping album.

"Speak Now" is filled to the brim with thinly veiled references to her rumored ex-boyfriends, and it's where fans and critics alike started parsing her lyrics to speculate, with songs like "Dear John,""Back to December," and "Last Kiss" all corresponding to famous reported exes.

The best was yet to come for Swift, though.

NOW: She just released her seventh album and has taken on the music industry by speaking out about streaming, contracts, and owning her own music.

Swift has essentially achieved world domination at this point — after falling from grace in 2016, and clawing her way back with 2017's "Reputation," and 2019's "Lover."

The soon-to-be 30-year-old's public persona hit critical mass after a leaked phone conversation between her and Kanye West seemed to expose Swift as a "snake." She took a year off — and when she returned, there was not a country twang to be found, just intense synths and snake imagery everywhere.

We'd also be remiss to not mention Swift standing up for smaller musicians in two major ways. First, she refused to put her music on Apple Music or Spotify until they agreed to pay artists more per stream — and it worked. Then, she spoke out against Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta for, according to her, holding her masters hostage. You can read more about the feud here.

THEN: Beyoncé was still, of course, one of the biggest musicians on the planet, but announced a hiatus from music in January 2010.

In 2010, Beyoncé was undoubtedly a star. She had released "I Am... Sasha Fierce" in 2008, and starred in the movie "Obsessed" in 2009. But to start the decade, the 29-year-old announced she was taking a hiatus from music.

She returned in 2011 with "4," which continued to assert her dominance in the music industry, and she revealed her pregnancy on the VMAs stage in one of the most memorable award ceremony moments on the decade.

NOW: It's hard to overstate how important Beyoncé has become in culture, from releasing two of the most political and empowering albums of the decade, to creating a full-blown experience at Coachella.

As her own lyrics state, Beyoncé "changed the game with that digital drop" in 2013 when she surprise-dropped her self-titled album in December 2013, complete with music videos for each song. She repeated the feat again with 2016's "Lemonade" which came with a short film on HBO of the same name — this album received even more critical acclaim, and solidified her status as one of, if not the most, important musicians of the decade.

The 38-year-old also hasn't given a real interview for years, adding to her air of mystery. She almost exclusively communicates with her fans via Instagram with a rare caption or through documentaries like "Life Is But a Dream" or "Homecoming."

And speaking of "Homecoming"... we have to talk about Beychella. As the New York Times wrote, "There's not likely to be a more meaningful, absorbing, forceful and radical performance by an American musician this year, or any year soon, than Beyoncé's headlining set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival."

She also broke the internet with the first pictures of her twins in 2017, casually starred in the "Lion King" remake while simultaneously curating an album for the film, and collaborating on an album with her husband as The Carters. We could go on and on.

THEN: Kristen Stewart was best known as the star of the "Twilight" franchise and for dating her co-star Robert Pattinson.

Stewart was the highest-earning actress of both 2010 and 2012 due to her role as Bella Swan in the "Twilight" franchise, though she never seemed quite comfortable in the spotlight.

The then-20-year-old was also at the center of one of the most scrutinized celebrity relationships, as she was dating her co-star Robert Pattinson — and then at the center of a scandal in 2012 when she was caught kissing the (married) director of "Snow White and the Huntsman," Rupert Sanders.

Even Donald Trump had an opinion on the scandal, tweeting "Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again--just watch. He can do much better!," and then once the two got back together, "Everyone knows I am right that Robert Pattinson should dump Kristen Stewart. In a couple of years, he will thank me. Be smart, Robert."

NOW: She's fully embraced her queer identity, and she has picked interesting indie films over the last 10 years.

Stewart, 29, has fully left behind "Twilight." She chopped off her trademark brown hair and dyed it platinum blonde, came out as bisexual, and began appearing in movies that were pointedly not about teenage vampires.

She recently returned to big budget films with "Charlie's Angels" and her performance received positive reviews. Stewart is also set to appear in "Underwater," another action thriller, this time with a sci-fi aspect.

THEN: Jonah Hill's biggest film to date was "Superbad," and he had appeared in supporting roles in films like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Knocked Up."

In 2010, 27-year-old Hill headlined his first major film with "Get Him to the Greek." The next year he started experimenting with dramatic movies and co-starred in "Moneyball" alongside Brad Pitt.

He didn't leave comedy behind though, starring in "21 Jump Street" in 2012, which became the highest-grossing high school comedy movie of all time— though it has since been bumped by "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

NOW: He's a fashion icon, hype-beast, director, and dramatic actor.

Hill, 35, is now the subject of a song by Die Antwoord, his very own holiday (Jonah Hill Day started in 2017), and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in "The Wolf of Wall Street." In 2018, he starred in the trippy Netflix series "Maniac" alongside Emma Stone.

He made his directorial debut with "Mid90s," a coming-of-age movie about a group of teenage skateboarders in mid-'90s Los Angeles. He also wrote it.

This year, it was revealed he was in talks to play the villain in the upcoming Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson, though he has since passed on the role.

Lastly, Hill regularly appears in the news for his daring aesthetic choices. He's bleached his hair, dyed it pink, and GQ even called him "our new style savior" in 2017.

A timeline of Tana Mongeau's relationship with Noah Cyrus, who Mongeau claimed to be dating while still 'married' to Jake Paul

noah tana nana

  • Tana Mongeau and Noah Cyrus have been hinting that they're in some sort of a relationship for months.
  • Between flirty social media posts and Mongeau's "husband" Jake Paul saying he approved of Mongeau and Cyrus hooking up, it's been clear that something is going on between the two.
  • Mongeau seemingly confirmed that she and Cyrus were dating on December 3, when she uploaded a vlog titled "I took my girlfriend's phone and flirted with my best friend," referring to Cyrus' phone.
  • But Cyrus posted on her Instagram story that the two were "just friends," and Mongeau changed the title of the video to "I took Noah's phone." In late September on "The Zach Sang Show,"Cyrus also said she and Mongeau were just friends, but that the two "could be" in an official relationship in the future.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

If you've been following YouTuber Tana Mongeau and singer Noah Cyrus for the past few months, it's clear that something is up between the two. Constant innuendos, hangouts, flirting, and hinting at something more than friendship reached its peak on December 3, when Mongeau uploaded a vlog describing Cyrus as her girlfriend.

But Cyrus then posted on her Instagram story that the two were just friends. So what is the truth?

It's unclear, but here's a thorough breakdown of the "friendship" between the YouTuber and the Cyrus sibling.

Tana Mongeau didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Earlier this year, Mongeau accused Cyrus of hating her in a "storytime" video about their mutual ex, the rapper Lil Xan.

At the beginning of 2019, Mongeau and Cyrus weren't close. They weren't even friends. In fact, Mongeau uploaded a 46-minute "storytime" video about Cyrus hating her.

To summarize, Mongeau spent most of the video describing a dramatic, secretive fling with the rapper Lil Xan, who Cyrus very publicly dated and had a messy breakup with. But she noted that she saw Lil Xan with Cyrus at the 2018 Video Music Awards (where Lil Xan and Cyrus took that iconic, awkward red carpet photo).

Mongeau said Lil Xan ran over to her at the event, and Cyrus approached them looking very unhappy to see the two together. Mongeau also said she had heard that Cyrus hated her from unnamed sources.

Cyrus then tweeted at Mongeau to tell her she didn't hate her, and that she wanted to hang out.

Luckily for Mongeau, Cyrus quickly cleared the air. After the video debuted, the singer tweeted "lol this is hilarious i deff dont hate you and for sure turned the opposite direction of you no shoulder check."

Cyrus added that the two should "hangout and talk about how bitchy girls are to other girls @tanamongeau dm me."

As a side note, this isn't the first time Mongeau has accused another woman of hating her for having a mutual fling or ex, only for that woman and her to become some sort of item. That was also the origin story of her friendship-turned-relationship with Bella Thorne.

For a few months after that, Mongeau was preoccupied with her whirlwind romance, engagement, and "marriage" to Jake Paul.

It's unclear whether Mongeau took Cyrus up on her offer immediately, but any romantic prospects were overtaken that summer by the YouTuber's whirlwind, and at least partially staged, relationship with fellow influencer Jake Paul.

Mongeau and Paul got engaged in late June and got "married" a month later, although the wedding wasn't legally binding, so they're not technically married. The two are still calling each other husband and wife for now, but the so-called marriage has been rife with cheating rumors.

In a recent Q&A video, Mongeau said Paul decided their "marriage" was open, although that wasn't what she wanted. She said she would want to be exclusive with Paul if he wanted that too, but she doesn't think it will ever happen.

In early September, Mongeau and Cyrus started to hang out and post flirty social media updates about each other.

Perhaps spurned on by the cheating rumors, Mongeau started posting innuendos about her relationship with Cyrus pretty soon after the two started publicly hanging out.

In September, Cyrus shared a flirty video of her and Mongeau with the caption "tana tastes like skittles.. what?" The line is a play off the song "Betrayed" by Lil Xan." Cyrus also captioned an Instagram story of her with Mongeau with "sorry jakey."

The general understanding of the posts was that Cyrus and Mongeau had started hooking up, which had some fans asking whether it was hypocritical of Mongeau to call Paul out for cheating that summer.

Paul even endorsed the pairing in an interview, clarifying that his marriage with Mongeau was open.

In an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" a few days later, Paul addressed the relationship between Mongeau and Cyrus and said he would be totally fine with them hooking up, because his marriage to Mongeau was "open."

He even suggested that the three could be in a throuple (three people dating each other) of sorts. While Mongeau says she doesn't like that her marriage is open, she's not opposed to open relationships in general. When Mongeau dated Thorne, Thorne was dating the artist Mod Sun at the same time.

In an interview on "The Zach Sang Show," Cyrus addressed the rumors and said she and Mongeau weren't dating.

After Paul issued his blessings, Cyrus had her own response to the rumors during an interview on "The Zach Sang Show." She first shot down Paul's suggestion that there would be any kind of a throuple, as well as his assessment that she was the one trying to initiate a hook-up with Mongeau.

Mongeau actually FaceTime called her way into the interview at one point, and the two said "I love you" to each other. When Sang pressed for more details, Cyrus clarified that they weren't dating but acknowledged that "it could be" more serious in the future.

But within days, Cyrus confirmed that her and Mongeau's pairing was called "nana" and "not toah."

Despite being "just friends," Cyrus has still fed into the fan theories that she and Mongeau are hooking up and even that they're secretly dating. Fans of the pairing were referring to it as "Toah"– a mash-up of their names – and Cyrus clarified on Instagram that it was "Nana."

And the pair were photographed holding hands in early October, sparking even more rumors.

Things seemingly got even more blatant in early October, when Mongeau and Cyrus were photographed holding hands out and about in LA.

Mongeau posted an eyebrow-raising Instagram caption about her and Cyrus at the Knott's Scary Farm Halloween event.

Around this time, Cyrus and Mongeau began appearing regularly in each other's social media posts, especially Instagram stories. They were clearly spending a lot of time together, with Cyrus in particular getting to know all of Mongeau's friends.

On a visit to the Knott's Scary Farm Halloween event at Knott's Berry Farm, Mongeau posted a set of photos with Cyrus, including one of them in the bathroom together – but nothing that made it clear whether they were dating or still just friends.

The caption read "we might've had the most fun in the bathroom tho hahahahahahaha," which again, could really be interpreted either way, although it was definitely cheeky. Paul, for what it's worth, commented "hot."

Then, on her second Instagram account, Mongeau posted a photo of the two kissing, sort of.

Width: 540px

A few days after her main Instagram post, Mongeau posted a different picture of her with Cyrus to her second Instagram account, @tanatookthese, where she posts film camera photos.

That picture showed the two kissing – sort of. They're not fully kissing. It's again similar to how Mongeau's relationship with Thorne progressed. She posted a picture of her and Thorne doing the exact same thing shortly before the couple confirmed that they were dating.

The two continued to spend a lot of time together publicly.

Width: 540px

Cyrus posted her first Instagram photo with Mongeau on October 14, and the two continued to make frequent appearances on each other's social media profiles.

On December 3, Mongeau posted a vlog titled "I took my girlfriend's phone and flirted with my best friend," referring to Cyrus.

Most recently, it seemed like Mongeau confirmed her relationship with Cyrus for real, in the form of a YouTube vlog titled. On her vlog channel, Mongeau uploaded"I took my girlfriend's phone and flirted with my best friend. prank????" in which she uses Cyrus' phone to text one of her good friends.

Since she acknowledged that Cyrus was her girlfriend in the video's title, fans ran with it.

Cyrus clarified on her Instagram story that the two were "friends."

//www.youtube.com/embed/kumYb59sx00
Width: 560px

But the relationship definition quickly deteriorated. Cyrus posted an Instagram story shortly after clarifying that "guysssss. we are FRIENDS relaxxxxxxxxx."

The "relax" part may have been directed at fans who were angry that Mongeau was going to have a girlfriend while still married to Paul, especially after criticizing him for hooking up with other women.

Notably, Mongeau also changed the title of the vlog to "i took Noah's phone and flirted with my best friend. prank????"

Whether it's a stunt, a miscommunication, or an attempt to avoid a scandal, Mongeau and Cyrus have yet to officially define the relationship.

It can be difficult to suss out what's real and what's fake in the love lives of prominent YouTubers – especially with YouTubers like Mongeau and Paul, who openly exaggerate or otherwise distort their relationships for dramatic effect.

A lot of people thought Mongeau's relationship with Thorne was staged, although she adamantly denied that. She also denies that she's not married to Paul, while admitting that the two never signed a marriage license.

It's definitely possible that Mongeau and Cyrus are pulling off a publicity stunt. But based on Mongeau's past relationships, it seems more likely that there is something going on behind-the-scenes and they just have yet to agree on how to define the relationship.

It's even further complicated by the fact that Mongeau and Paul don't seemingly have "divorce" or breakup plans, as per their most recent relationship update. Mongeau and Cyrus may be avoiding telling fans the full extent of their relationship to avoid controversy.

Either way, the two are still clearly very close – at least, for now.

The nominees for the 2020 Golden Globes were revealed on Monday, and there are a few stars who earned their first-ever nomination at the awards show.

Fans might be surprised to learn that "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington finally got recognized for his role as Jon Snow on the HBO series, while "Russian Doll" actress Natasha Lyonne, who viewers might recognize from "Orange Is the New Black," finally landed a nomination. And Paul Rudd, who's been acting since the '90s, got a nod for his double role on Netflix's  "Living With Yourself."

The 77th Golden Globes takes place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday, January 5, 2020 and will air at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Ricky Gervais will return to host the show.

"Awkwafina" is nominated for best performance by an actress in a motion picture for her role in "The Farewell."

The 31-year-old actress, who rose to fame as a rapper, was praised for her starring role as Billi in A24's "The Farewell." The bittersweet film centers on a Chinese family that comes together to say goodbye to their matriarch, who has weeks to live.

Although Awkwafina is a relatively new actress, she had a scene-stealing role in 2018's Golden Globes-nominated movie "Crazy Rich Asians."

Daniel Craig is nominated for best performance by an actor in a musical or comedy motion picture for "Knives Out."

Craig put on a southern accent for his role as detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson's whodunit "Knives Out." The movie, which was released in November 2019, featured a star-studded cast and centered on a murder mystery.

The 51-year-old has been on the big screen plenty of times, most notably for his role as James Bond in the beloved spy franchise, but this marked his first Golden Globes nomination.

Jodie Comer is up for best performance by an actress in a drama TV series for her role on "Killing Eve."

Comer stars as assassin Villanelle on the BBC America thriller, which premiered in 2018 and has a third season on the way.

The actress was previously a big winner at the 2019 Primetime Emmys, earning the trophy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. Comer also won a BAFTA Award for best leading actress for the role.

Kit Harington is nominated for best performance by an actor in a drama TV series for his part on "Game of Thrones."

The eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" left many fans feeling unsatisfied or upset by how the series ended. The HBO show only earned one Golden Globe nomination for the 2020 awards show, and the nod went to Harington for his role as Jon Snow.

Despite playing the character since the show's debut in April 2011, this is the 32-year-old's first Golden Globes nomination. He previously nabbed two Primetime Emmy nominations for his part.

Natasha Lyonne is up for best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy TV series for "Russian Doll."

On the Netflix series, Lyonne stars as Nadia Vulvokov, who finds herself stuck in a time loop and repeating the same evening. The show got renewed for a second season and earned three Primetime Emmys in 2019.

Lyonne isn't a new actor, though. After years on the big screwen, she also starred on Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black," but never earned a Golden Globes nomination for her role as Nicky Nichols.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is nominated for best performance by an actress in a TV musical or comedy TV series for "Fleabag."

Waller-Bridge created, starred, executive produced, and wrote episodes of Amazon Prime's "Fleabag." The show premiered in 2016 and centered on a woman dealing with grief and breaking the fourth wall throughout.

The actress was a bigger winner at the 2019 Emmys, earning three total awards, but this is the first time she's received a Golden Globes nomination.

Paul Rudd is up for best performance by an actor in a musical or comedy TV series for "Living With Yourself."

On the Netflix series, Paul Rudd plays a man named Miles Elliot who goes to a spa and gets replaced by a better version of himself

Outside of his role as Ant-Man/Scott Lang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rudd has starred in a variety of movies and shows since the '90s. This includes "Clueless,""Parks and Recreation,""This Is 40,""Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,""The Perks of Being a Wallflower," and "Friends." However, this is the actor's first-ever Golden Globe nomination.

Merritt Wever is up for the award for best performance by an actress in a limited series or a motion picture made for TV for "Unbelievable."

Wever portrayed a detective named Karen Duvall on the Netflix series, which was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning article titled "An Unbelievable Story of Rape," and written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong.

Wever is a veteran actress, having previously starred on shows like "Godless" (which earned her an Emmy win in 2018) and "Nurse Jackie" (which resulted in two Emmy nominations).

Jared Harris is nominated for best performance by an actor in a limited series or a motion picture made for TV for his role on "Chernobyl."

Harris starred as a Soviet scientist named Valery Legasov on the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl," based on a real-life nuclear power plant accident that took place in 1986.

The 58-year-old actor has previously starred in movies like "Lincoln" and popular series like "Fringe,""Mad Men," and "The Crown," but this is his first Golden Globe nomination.

playmobil movie 2 stxfilms

  • Actor Matthew McConaughey has been the biggest box-office loser this year, with more than one notable flop.
  • Even superhero movies aren't immune to the box-office blues. The "X-Men" movie "Dark Phoenix" and the "Hellboy" reboot crashed and burned this summer.
  • The latest huge misfire is STX's "Playmobil: The Movie," which had one of the worst openings of all time over the weekend with less than $1 million.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The biggest box-office losers of the year so far has been actor Matthew McConaughey and studio STX Entertainment, who've had multiple major flops in 2019.

McConaughey's January release, "Serenity," co-starring Anne Hathaway, grossed a rough $8.5 million and had a production budget of $25 million. Harmony Korine's "The Beach Bum," starring McConaughey, opened with $1.8 million in March, which was the worst opening for a wide release on over 1,000 screens at the time, and one of the worst openings of the actor's career.

But even some superhero movies have crashed and burned this year. "Hellboy" failed to spark excitement this year due to a poor release date, awful reviews, and other factors. It's made just $21 million and was made for $50 million. And the "X-Men" dud "Dark Phoenix" was a huge misfire.

The latest huge flop is STX's "Playmobil: The Movie," which opened over the weekend with less than $1 million. It's one of the worst box-office openings of all time for a movie playing on over 2,000 screens. It's the latest misfire for STX, which also released "Ugly Dolls" and "Poms" earlier this year.

Below are 16 box-office flops this year, in order of release date:

Major League Baseball has long resisted the blatant commercialation of its jerseys, but an agreement recently reached with the world's premier shoe brand appears to be taking the league's uniforms in a new direction.

NIKEMLB_LockUp_original

In January, Nike announced that it would become the "exclusive provider of Major League Baseball's on-field uniforms" beginning with the 2020 season. According to the release, the deal — which involved both the MLB and sports merchandise giant Fanatics — allowed the athletic wear company to feature its signature Nike "swoosh" on the new jerseys.

On Monday, Nike released the first look at all 30 MLB teams' uniforms for next season. The photos, which surfaced online, show classic designs but feature the classic Nike symbol prominently on the chest.

Many baseball fans expressed discontent and ire with both the size and location of the swoosh:

Many people on Twitter thought the swoosh should have been stitched onto the sleeve:

Still, some other Twitter users mocked fans who were upset with the new uniform changes:

Hydroid nikon video contest

  • The Nikon Small World in Motion contest highlights the best microscope videos taken each year.
  • This year's first-place winner is a video of a polyp bursting out of bright green coral like a beating heart.
  • Other winners include videos of a developing mouse embryo and a microorganism that creates a whirling vortex to capture its prey.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

It's tough to capture the world's tiniest organisms in photos, but it's even tougher to capture footage them in action. After awarding the best microscope photography of 2019, Nikon has revealed the winners of a second competition, called Nikon Small World in Motion.

The contest was launched in 2012 to showcase time-lapse photography or short clips taken through a microscope. This year's winning videos reveal how life looks beyond what the naked eye can see, giving rare glimpses into the bizarre and fascinating ways microorganisms transform and interact.

Sometimes, those interactions are vicious, as the 2019 selection shows: The best microscope videos of the year include a parasite emerging from its dead host and two "water bears" eating a member of their own kind.

Take a look.

The video that took first place in this year's competition shows a polyp bursting out of bright green coral like a beating heart.

Width: 560px
Height: 315px

Polyps divide into thousands of clones that eventually form coral reefs. The magenta specs represent the algae that's living inside the coral.

Coral is sensitive to light, so biologist Philippe Laissue had to use a low-light technique when capturing this video. A bright light may have damaged the coral's cellular structure and prevented the algae from undergoing photosynthesis.

"Coral reefs are in alarming decline due to climate change, pollution, and other human-made disturbances," Laissue said in a press release about the footage. "I hope this video shows people the beauty of these organisms while raising awareness of their decline."

The runner-up shows a parasite emerging from its dead host, a marine plankter.

The videographer who captured this footage, Richard Kirby, had to transfer live samples into his laboratory before making the movie.

By the end of the video, the parasite — which resembles a small white bubble — bursts through the plankter (that's the term for an individual organism of plankton) like a squeezed pimple. It's gross, but transfixing.

A video of a microorganism creating a whirling vortex to capture its prey took third place.

Width: 560px
Height: 315px

This microorganism, called Stylonychia, is often found in fresh water and sediment. It uses the vibrating hairs on its surface, known as cilia, to motor through the water and trap its next meal. That process is shown in this movie by New York videographers Tommy and Jesse Gunn.

Tardigrades, also known as "water bears," are shown eating one of their own in this video, which took fourth place.

The eight-legged micro-animals can survive extreme pressures, radiation levels, and temperatures. They were the first animal species from Earth to survive in the harsh vacuum of outer space

Some tardigrades get their food by sucking the fluid from algae and moss, but others (like the ones in this video taken by Hunter Hines at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Florida) are cannibals.

The video that took fifth place shows an expanding blue blob — a developing mouse embryo.

Kate McDole and Philipp Keller at Virginia's Howard Hughes Medical Institute captured the embryo as its neural tube — the hollow structure that forms the brain and spinal cord — was folding and closing. When the neural tube doesn't close properly, that can result in birth defects.

Some honorable mentions in this year's competition are too spectacular not to highlight. This reverse time-lapse shows a snowflake turning back into ice.

Snowflakes develop when a water droplet freezes onto a dust particle in the sky, resulting in an ice crystal.

Instead of melting before they disappear, some snowflakes undergo a process called "sublimation," which essentially skips the liquid stage of matter and moves straight from solid to gas. Photographer Caleb Foster's video (above) shows the sublimation process in reverse.

Foster's still image of a snowflake placed fifth in the Nikon Small World photo contest.

A trippy video of a developing frog embryo looks like something from outer space.

Height: 315px

Videographer Dave Lewis filmed the embryo of a common frog from day 10 to day 13 in its development. Common frogs' embryos are surrounded by a thin jelly capsule.

This skeleton or "ghost" shrimp is so slender, it can disappear among seaweed.

Width: 560px
Height: 315px

Skeleton shrimp, also called caprellids, sit motionless in shallow marine environments before sneaking up on their prey (usually protozoa or worms). Videographer Raul Gonzalez captured the creature's subtle movements.

Gonzalez also filmed hydroids zipping through water in an electric display of light.

Hydroids are one stage in the life cycle of jellyfish-like predators called hydrozoa. Blink and you'll miss the video's mesmerizing end.

These people tried to protect Harvey Weinstein. Here's what they have to say for themselves now.

harvey weinstein

  • In 2017, investigations uncovered numerous allegations of sexual assault against legendary producer Harvey Weinstein.
  • Since then, the details of Weinstein's powerful social and legal network have been revealed by the same reporters.
  • Some Hollywood heavyweights sounded off on the case, and key figures who were closest to Weinstein in the fallout of the investigations fought hard to push back on the reports.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

In 2017, the New York Times and The New Yorker published investigations into repeated settlements paid out by legendary producer Harvey Weinstein over the course of several years in response to sexual misconduct allegations.

Since then, more of Weinstein's accusers have come forward and reporters have mapped out an extensive network of women who have said they were harassed or assaulted by him.

In the midst of the allegations, some top lawyers and celebrities were vocal about not rushing to judgment in Weinstein's case, with some even coming to his defense.

In the time since, some have walked back and clarified their comments in the wake of the case that shook Hollywood and set off the #MeToo movement as books, "She Said" and "Catch and Kill," by the reporters who broke the Weinstein story, detailed the extensive networks that worked to defend Weinstein and silence his accusers.

These are the people that defended Harvey Weinstein, and what they have to say on the matter now.

Attorney Lisa Bloom

Bloom was arguably the most surprising member of Weinstein's defense, and triggered massive blowback when she joined his team as a legal adviser.

She resigned two days after the Times released its investigation and later said she regrets joining the defense, saying she joined the team to "educate him about sexual harassment laws, about the power imbalance, about what is appropriate and not appropriate in the workplace," but was later  "mortified that I was connected with him in any way."

In a November 10, 2017 appearance on The View, Bloom said she was interested in the case because it gave her "the opportunity get on the inside and talk to this guy directly," and she wanted Weinstein "to change the response...apologize for what you did, acknowledge the wrongdoing, don't go after the women... that is what he did. I did accomplish that."

However, Bloom has also claimed sweeping ignorance that doesn't match up with a memo published in "She Said" that shows Bloom was working with Weinstein at a rate of $895 an hour to quash the journalists' investigation and organize a multi-faceted campaign to silence one of his most high-profile accusers, Rose McGowan.

Once the full spectrum of allegations had been surfaced in detail in the Times investigation, Bloom said she was "shocked."

When reached for comment, Bloom referred to a previous statement given to outlets after "She Said" and "Catch and Kill" were released, where reiterated that joining the team was a "colossal mistake."

"I thank Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey and Ronan Farrow for forcing me to confront the colossal mistake I made in working for Weinstein two years ago," she wrote. "While painful, I learn so much more from my mistakes than my successes.

Attorney David Boies

In addition to being Weinstein's longtime lawyer, Boies took extraordinary measures to undermine the Times' investigation into the allegations against the producer, who has worked with Boies and his family on projects including a book deal and a role for Boies's daughter, an aspiring actress.

Boies personally signed a contract with a private investigation organization, Black Cube, to smear and discredit the investigation into Weinstein and mislead Times reporters in an undercover operation that was eventually unearthed and cost Boies's firm its contract with the Times.

In Ronan Farrow's November 2017 article detailing the extensive network around Weinstein that silenced his accusers and threatened the Times' investigation, Boies said, "I don't believe former lawyers should criticize former clients," but acknowledged his role in suppressing the allegations.

"Although he vigorously denies using physical force, Mr. Weinstein has himself recognized that his contact with women was indefensible and incredibly hurtful,"Boies told Farrow. "In retrospect, I knew enough in 2015 that I believe I should have been on notice of a problem, and done something about it. I don't know what, if anything, happened after 2015, but to the extent it did, I think I have some responsibility. I also think that if people had taken action earlier it would have been better for Mr. Weinstein."

Boies did not immediately reply to Insider's request for comment.

Attorney Gloria Allred

Though Allred has a longtime reputation as one of the most vocal crusaders against sexual harassment and assault, "She Said" revealed her key role in the network around the Weinstein case that silenced at least one accuser with overwhelmingly common legal and financial arrangements.

Ashley Matthau is identified in "She Said" as a dancer who said she first met Allred shortly after she was assaulted by Weinstein while filming a movie. Allred's firm went on to help negotiate a confidential settlement in 2004 between Weinstein and Matthau, of which Allred took a 40% cut.

Allred told Ronan Farrow in 2017 that her firm had represented "thousands" of people who have entered into confidential settlements and said, "some people don't want their parents, their friends, members of their community to know."

Allred hasn't aired any regrets since, even defending confidential settlements in an interview included in "She Said" as an option for accusers, adding that clients are not forced to sign them and can be optimal for those looking for closure and privacy.

Allred did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Hillary Clinton's publicist, Nick Merrill

Farrow reported that he was digging into Clinton's ties to Weinstein, such as Weinstein's donation of more than $26,000 to her campaigns since her Senate run in 2000.

Farrow wrote that her publicist Nick Merrill sent him an email trying to prevent the story's release, writing that the "big story" he was working on was a "concern for us."

Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the authors of "She Said," reported that actress Lena Dunham had told them she warned Clinton's campaign as a whole to cut ties with Weinstein, which went ignored.

Merrill did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

NBC Universal CEO Stephen Burke

Farrow reported that Burke, who is also a top executive at the network's parent company Comcast, made the ultimate decision for NBC News to not run the story detailing allegations against Weinstein.

Burke "had a rapport" with Weinstein throughout the reporting process and a former member of Weinstein's staff described the executive to Farrow as being "in Weinstein's pocket," according to Farrow's written account.

The executive has also been under scrutiny for Farrow's claim that he was warned in 2015 of a culture of sexual harassment at NBC's news division, two years before anchor Matt Lauer was fired for harassment amid graphic allegations that surfaced from three initial accusers.

A person close to NBC News told Insider that Burke did not have a relationship with Weinstein and did not actively stifle the story.

NBC News President Noah Oppenheim

Farrow details NBC News President Noah Oppenheim's key role in kicking off the story by suggesting he interview Rose McGowan, who he said he noticed had "tweeted something about a studio head."

McGowan would go on to be one of the report's key sources, telling Farrow and his team that Weinstein had sexually assaulted her at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, but as Farrow's reporting charged on, he wrote in the book that Oppenheim became one of his most direct opponents in releasing the report.

"Harvey Weinstein grabbing a lady's breasts a couple of years ago, that's not national news," Oppenheim said, according to the book, before telling Farrow it would be a better fit for The Hollywood Reporter, or the "Today" show. It was one of several hard stops Farrow wrote that Oppenheim ordered.

Farrow claimed that Oppenheim was aware of the allegations, though the executive has denied any knowledge and dismissed Farrow's book as "a smear."

A person close to NBC News told Insider that Oppenheim did not have a relationship with Weinstein and did not actively stifle the story.

NBC News and MSNBC Chairman Andy Lack

Farrow reported that NBC News and MSNBC Chairman Andy Lack, an NBC veteran, was one of Weinstein's key points of contact that he pressured to get the story on his misconduct killed.

Lack is described as one of Weinstein's surest allies among NBC executives, as Farrow cited a phone call between Lack and Weinstein's lead attorney David Boies, during which Lack told Boies that there wouldn't be a story.

"We've told Harvey we're not doing a story," Lack reportedly said. "If we decide to do a story, we'll tell him."

Nearly one year after the story was released, Lack pushed back on Farrow's allegations, writing in a memo to employees obtained by Insider echoing his colleagues' defenses that he didn't feel there were enough sources and corroborating information to publish the story, and even included a 10-page timeline of the reporting process.

A person close to NBC News told Insider that Lack did not have a relationship with Weinstein and did not actively stifle the story.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin

Griffin, along with Lack and Oppenheim, were part of the "the triumvirate," a term Farrow wrote that Weinstein's assistants coined to refer to the executives that fielded his calls as Farrow's reporting continued throughout 2017.

In a "fact sheet" released by Oppenheim to push back on some of the book's claims, he wrote that Griffin received 13 calls from Weinstein, but had no role in supervising Farrow or his reporting.

A person close to NBC News told Insider that Griffin did not have a relationship with Weinstein and did not actively stifle the story.

Actress Lindsey Lohan

The actress sparked blowback when she took to her Instagram story to say that in the wake of the allegations, she felt "very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now," and she didn't think "it's right what's going on."

"He's never harmed me or done anything to me,"Lohan said, according to Vanity Fair. "We've done several movies together. And so I think everyone needs to stop. I think it's wrong. So stand up."

Lohan quickly took down the supportive videos she posted to Instagram before saying in a statement to the Daily Mail: "As someone who has lived their life in the public eye, I feel that allegations should always be made to the authorities and not played out in the media."

Representatives for Lohan did not immediately reply to Insider's request for comment.

Designer Donna Karan

The DKNY founder told the Daily Mail in October 2017 that she thought "we have to look at ourselves," before pointing to accusers as the potential problem.

"You look at everything all over the world today and how women are dressing and what they are asking by just presenting themselves the way they do," Karan said. "What are they asking for? Trouble."

She described Weinstein and his wife Georgina Chapman as "wonderful people."

One day later, Karan released a statement saying that her comments "were taken out of context and do not represent how I feel about the current situation concerning Harvey Weinstein," but did not appear to be edited out of context.

"I believe that sexual harassment is NOT acceptable and this is an issue that MUST be addressed once and for all regardless of the individual," she clarified.

DKNY did not immediately return request for comment.

Director Oliver Stone

Oscar-winning director Stone said shortly after the allegations were reported that he would withhold judgment until the case reached court, and said, "a man shouldn't be condemned by a vigilante system."

"I'm a believer that you wait until this thing gets to trial," Stone said in October 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It's not easy what he's going through, either. During that period he was a rival. I never did business with him and didn't really know him. I've heard horror stories on everyone in the business, so I'm not going to comment on gossip. I'll wait and see, which is the right thing to do."

After his comments were published, Stone wrote on Facebook that when he initially spoke, he was unaware of the extent of the allegations against Weinstein because he was traveling, and said he was "appalled."

"After looking at what has been reported in many publications over the last couple of days, I'm appalled and commend the courage of the women who've stepped forward to report sexual abuse or rape," Stone wrote on Facebook.

Representatives for Stone did not immediately return Insider's request for comment.

Director Woody Allen

Allen initially said he felt "sad" for Weinstein and that he worried women speaking out would start a "witch hunt," according to The BBC.

"The whole Harvey Weinstein thing is very sad for everybody involved," Allen told The BBC. "Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that [his] life is so messed up."

Despite the nature and volume of the allegations, Allen said that "you also don't want it to lead to a witch hunt atmosphere, a Salem atmosphere, where every guy in an office who winks at a woman is suddenly having to call a lawyer to defend himself."

"That's not right either," Allen said.

Allen's comments raised eyebrows, considering the director had faced years of criticism over his relationship with Mia Farrow's adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn.

Allen's other adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, has alleged he sexually assaulted her in 1992, mentioning it in a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair and in an open letter published in The New York Times in 2014, but her first televised interview was granted to CNN in January 2018.

Allen later clarified his comments and further condemned Weinstein, telling Variety that he meant the producer was a "sad, sick man."

"When I said I felt sad for Harvey Weinstein I thought it was clear the meaning was because he is a sad, sick man," Allen told Variety. "I was surprised it was treated differently. Lest there be any ambiguity, this statement clarifies my intention and feelings."

Representatives for Allen did not immediately return Insider's request for comment.

Take a look at Louis Vuitton's new collection of video game clothes, a collaboration with 'League of Legends' that includes a $5,000 leather jacket

1.LVx LOL

For the person who has everything, maybe a $5,000 League of Legends Louis Vuitton leather jacket is the perfect gift this holiday season.

The fashion house Louis Vuitton released a capsule collection on Monday in collaboration with Riot Games' "League of Legends." The collection, branded as LVxLOL, was designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, the fashion label's artistic director of women's collections. The pieces range in price from a $170 bandeau to a $5,600 leather jacket.

The companies have collaborated in the past. The partnership was first announced in September, and in October, "League of Legends" released Louis Vuitton skins also designed by Ghesquière. Players could purchase the outfits for their characters for around $10.

The collaboration is no doubt niche. Riot Games refers to it as the "first-ever collaboration between a global eSport and a luxury fashion house."

Louis Vuitton says products will ship in February or March of 2020. Even if you can't purchase any pieces from the collection, you can take a look here.

This outfit, with a peplum top, leggings, plus purse and archlight sneakers, costs $6,020. These are some of the most understated pieces in the collection, and a passerby might not notice any "League of Legends" connections.

This look, with "League of Legends" character Qiyana printed on a t-shirt, has a more clear connection to the game. The tee, jogging pants, hoodie, sneakers, and watch make this look $8,890.

Here's what the full-body sweatsuit looks like.

Louis Vuitton also made a shirt dress version. The dress, plus a fanny-pack-style bag and heeled boots, comes in at $5,740.

This parka alone is $4,450, plus a $1,070 crop top and $940 cycling shorts. The mini backpack goes for $2,310.

For a buyer with nearly impossible storage needs and money to burn, this bracelet bag sells for $730.

This leather biker jacket with the Louis Vuitton logo is one of the most expensive pieces in the collection at $5,650. The bubble skirt is one of the most feminine pieces, and costs $2,680.

Louis Vuitton paired it with $1,060 platforms that have the collection's signature camo pattern, and a charm bracelet that costs $345, one of the lowest costs in the collection.

Even this pocket square costs $485

This "Neverfull" tote goes for $1,760, and the "League of Legends" key holder and charm is $515.

Finally, this $730 bucket hat is somehow one of the most wearable pieces in the collection.

  • Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
  • The CW kicked off the Arrowverse's big "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover on Sunday.
  • The five-part event will conclude on January 14, 2020.
  • The first episode featured plenty of notable appearances, aside from the network's current stars.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

The CW's highly-anticipated Arrowverse crossover, titled "Crisis on Infinite Earths," began on Sunday.

On the episode, which is one of five total, superheroes from across the multiverse united to prevent complete destruction as anti-matter swept across several Earths. This included Earth-38, which is home to Supergirl/Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist). Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), who kickstarted the network's Arrowverse in 2012, also died trying to save billions of citizens from the aforementioned Earth.

In addition to the actors from "Arrow,""Supergirl,""The Flash,""Batwoman,""Legends of Tomorrow," and "Black Lightning" that will appear throughout the crossover (which concludes with two back-to-back episodes on January 14, 2020) some other stars are expected to make cameos.

Here are all the celebrities who had cameos, so far.

Robert Wuhl reprised his role as reporter Alexander Knox from the 1989 Tim Burton 'Batman' movie.

He was seen in Gotham City on Earth-89 (a nod to the year the movie about the Caped Crusader was released starring Michael Keaton), sitting on a bench and reading the Gotham City Gazette. The newspaper had a front-page headline that read, "Batman Captures Joker,"  and the bat signal was projected in the sky as the city's call for help from the superhero.

A scene of the red skies on Earth-9 showed 'Titans' star Alan Ritchson as Hawk/Hank Hall.

Season one of "Titans," which is a grittier spin on DC's Teen Titans, was released on DC's streaming app (DC Universe ) in 2018.

Another scene showed Curran Walters' 'Titans' character, Jason Todd.

He was seen in San Francisco with Hawk, and their Earth was destroyed. Considering that a third season of "Titans" has already been confirmed for 2020, it'll be interesting to see how "Crisis" impacts the show.

Fans got a glimpse of Russel Tovey as The Ray on Earth-X.

He was previously seen on the Arrowverse crossover titled "Crisis on Earth-X."

On Earth-66, Dick Grayson/Robin (played by Burt Ward), was seen walking Ace the Bat-Hound.

He shouted, "Holy crimson skies of death!" as he saw the anti-matter take over.

Ward portrayed the character on the 1966 "Batman" TV show.

'Star Trek: The Next Generation' actor Wil Wheaton had a cameo as a National City civilian from Earth-38.

He voiced Aqualad on the animated show "Teen Titans Go!" and Blue Beetle/Ted Kord on the animated series "Batman: The Brave and The Bold." In addition, Wheaton voiced Robin for the video game "DC Universe Online."

'The Tick' star Griffin Newman played the host of a quiz night that Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) attended.

Shortly after the game ended, Lyla/Harbinger (Audrey Marie Anderson) arrived to recruit the "Legends of Tomorrow" characters to assist with the crisis.

Elon Musk won his 'pedo guy' defamation case. Here are all the bizarre spats the the Tesla CEO is caught up in thanks to his Twitter habit.

Elon Musk

  • Elon Musk might be the world's most extremely online billionaire.
  • The Tesla CEO, worth an estimated $26 billion, has a habit of getting into fights and long-running feuds over the internet.
  • Musk is an enthusiastic Twitter user and often jokes around with his followers — but sometimes takes it too far.
  • Here are his weirdest fights.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Elon Musk has a combative streak.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO is famously unpredictable as chief executives go, a personality trait which has sometimes landed him in trouble — particularly with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

But Musk's combative side doesn't just express itself in skirmishes with government agencies. The Tesla billionaire has ended up in bizarre spats with a strange array of people — from fellow billionaires to artists to rescue divers — and often via his preferred medium of Twitter.

The twists and turns in the stories of Musk's various battles are no less baffling, and it can be hard to remember all the different ways Musk has squared up to various public figures and regular citizens.

We've catalogued his weirdest fights.

1. When he called a complete stranger "pedo guy"

Vernon Unsworth is the British diver who participated in the rescue of 12 Thai boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave system in June 2018. It was a difficult, complex operation and the boys were successfully rescued after being trapped for 17 days by international divers and Thai Navy SEALs. Unsworth, an experienced cave explorer, was asked by Thai officials to aid in the rescue.

He had never met Elon Musk, but would go on to spend most of 2019 locked in a legal battle with the Tesla billionaire.

Musk had inserted himself into the Thai rescue operation and offered to build a mini-submarine to fetch the boys. The idea never materialized.

Unsworth was asked about Musk's submarine in an interview with CNN, and described it in unflattering terms, describing it as a PR stunt. He added that Musk could "stick his submarine where it hurts."

That angered Musk, who subsequently wrote a post on Twitter calling Unsworth a "pedo guy." When a Twitter user challenged him over it, he replied "bet ya a signed dollar it's true."

His remarks immediately triggered headlines around the world, despite the fact he provided no proof for the "pedo" claim.

Musk doubled down on the allegation by emailing BuzzFeed reporter Ryan Mac and calling Vernon Unsworth a "child rapist", with no evidence

Censured by critics for using the slur, Musk deleted his tweet and apologised, but he didn't leave it there. A month later he responded to a Twitter user who criticised him. "You don't think it's strange he hasn't sued me? He was offered free legal services,"Musk tweeted, referring to Unsworth.

Then in September 2018, he doubled down. BuzzFeed reporter Ryan Mac emailed Musk asking for comment on a legal threat made by Unsworth's lawyer. Musk replied, suggesting Unsworth was a "child rapist" and "I hope he fucking sues me."

Musk prefaced the email to Mac with "off the record," but the journalist had never agreed to go off the record, and published the entire exchange. Documents later revealed Musk called himself a "fucking idiot" for sending the email to Mac in the first place.

A few weeks after Mac's article was published Unsworth sued Musk for defamation.

Court filings revealed Musk hired a detective to investigate Unsworth — but the PI turned out to be a conman

The case threw up some bizarre findings.

Court filings revealed that Musk paid a man named James Higgins-Howard $50,000 to investigate Unsworth and relay reports to Musk's family office.

Higgins-Howard emailed Musk out of the blue following the initial "pedo guy" tweet to offer his services as a private detective. "You may want to dig deep into Mr. Unsworth['s] past to prepare for his defamation claim," Higgins-Howard wrote, adding "no smoke without fire!"

Higgins-Howard didn't find any evidence, however, and BuzzFeed's Ryan Mac later reported that the would-be PI had previously been convicted of fraud. Musk admitted in a deposition that he later realised Higgins-Howard was "just taking us for a ride."

In depositions Musk has also argued that by calling Unsworth "pedo guy" he wasn't literally accusing him of being a pedophile because the term was used to be synonymous with "creepy old man" when he was growing up in South Africa. He also claimed he was genuinely worried Unsworth could be "another Jeffrey Epstein."

The trial began on December 3, 2019.

Elon Musk won the defamation case.

After a four-day trial in California, the jury found Musk not guilty of defamation.

The jury took less than half an hour to reach their decision, which reportedly hinged on the fact that Musk did not identify Unsworth in his tweet, according to the Times of London.

The foreman also said that Unsworth's lawyers had made the case too emotive. "The failure probably happened because they didn't focus on the tweets... I think they tried to get our emotions involved in it. In a court of law you have to prove your case, which they did not prove," said foreman Joshua Jones per the Guardian.

"My faith in humanity is restored," Musk said following the verdict.

Unsworth's lawyer Lin Wood said in a tweet that his team would "explore legal options" for challenging the verdict.

2. When he took a liking to farting unicorn art, but didn't pay for it

June 2018 saw Musk lock horns with another unlikely member of the public.

Colorado-based potter Tom Edwards caught Musk's attention with a mug. The mug carried a painting of a unicorn farting rainbows to power an electric car. Musk tweeted a picture of a mug in February 2017 calling it "maybe my favorite mug ever."

Two months later friends of Edwards' told him they had seen the same farting unicorn image used as an icon on Tesla screens, and the image was later used on Tesla's company Christmas cards.

The Christmas card spurred Edwards into action. "I decided to make it my New Year's resolution to pursue getting compensation, because artists are always seeing their work just taken, and it happens all the time," he told Business Insider in June 2018.

In later-deleted tweets Musk attacked Edwards, saying taking legal action would be "kinda lame."

"If anything, this attention increased his mug sales," he said. Musk also claimed (also in subsequently-deleted tweets) to have offered to pay for the work twice. Edwards said he'd had no contact from Musk or Tesla at that point.

Despite Musk's protestations, the two eventually settled

A month after the farting unicorn argument erupted on Twitter, Musk and Edwards came to a settlement. The terms of the settlement were not made public, but Edwards posted on his blog that it "resolves our issues in a way that everyone feels good about."

"It's clear there were some misunderstandings that led to this escalating, but I'm just glad that everything has been cleared up," he added.

Musk for his part tweeted a link to the blog accompanied by three emojis: a unicorn, a gust of wind, and a peace symbol.

3. When Azealia Banks waded into Tesla's regulatory troubles

On August 7, 2018 Elon Musk sent his infamous "funding secured" tweet, in which he claimed to be taking Tesla private at $420 a share.

Tesla did not go private, and Musk landed himself with a $20 million fine from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the tweet. He lost his position as chairman of Tesla's board, leading to long-running bad blood with the agency.

And it triggered another unlikely feud, with rapper Azealia Banks.

A week after Musk sent his fateful Tweet, Banks wrote on her Instagram that she had been at Musk's house at the time when he'd sent it. She had visited to collaborate with Musk's partner Grimes (real name Claire Boucher), and claimed she had been annoyed when the crisis caused by "funding secured" dominated Grimes' time.

"I waited around all weekend while grimes coddled her boyfriend," Banks wrote, and compared the weekend to the horror film "Get Out."

"I saw him in the kitchen tucking his tail in between his legs scrounging for investors to cover his ass after that tweet," Banks told Business Insider at the time.

Banks accused Musk of taking her phone

On August 20 Banks was back on Instagram, tagging Elon Musk.

Banks posted "@elonmusk you need to contact me. ASAP." and "I need my phone back now.  @elonmusk," on her Instagram story — she later deleted the posts.

Banks then shared a screenshot with Business Insider that appeared to show a text from Grimes saying the choice of share price ($420) was a weed reference. "He just got into weed cuz of me and he's super entertained by 420 so when he decided to take the stock private he calculated it was worth 419$ so he rounded up to 420 for a laugh and now the sec is investigating him for fraud," the text read.

Musk told the New York Times that he rounded up the price because $420 had better "karma" than $419, and denied using weed.

Musk, usually combative, didn't really respond publicly to Banks except to say he had never met her

Musk told Gizmodo that he hadn't met Banks "or communicated with her in any way," but confirmed to the New York Times that he had seen her at his house.

"I saw her on Friday morning, for two seconds at about a 30-foot distance as she was leaving the house... I'd just finished working out. She was not within hearing range. I didn't even realize who it was. That's literally the only time I've ever laid eyes on her," he told the Times.

The Banks-Musk feud dragged on for months after the story blew up

Banks lashed out at Musk in January of this year after Musk's attorney said Banks had a  "history of making bold and sometimes unverified claims."

"They are still slighting me like I don't have plenty more dirt to spill on Elon," she wrote on Instagram— later deleting the post. "This is going to get extremely ugly… Elon will learn very soon who is more powerful of us two."

In January, a court granted a motion to subpoena Banks, Grimes, and publications including Business Insider.

4. When he was accused of stealing an idea from Pablo Escobar's brother

Musk ended up in a spat with Roberto Escobar, brother of deceased Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, over an accusation of intellectual property theft.

TMZ first reported that Escobar had accused Musk of stealing his idea for a flamethrower when Musk's venture The Boring Company announced its "Not-A-Flamethrower" flamethrower in January 2018, beating Escobar's own flamethrower to market.

Escobar claimed to TMZ that one of Musk's engineers had stolen the idea while visiting an Escobar family compound in 2017.

"It's not a flamethrower, Mr. Escobar."

Elon Musk responded to the story in classic Muskian style — on Twitter.

Musk tweeted a link to the TMZ story accompanied by the words, "It's not a Flamethrower, Mr. Escobar," a tongue-in-cheek reference to the device's name.

In a follow-up tweet he added he stole the idea from the comedy movie "Spaceballs."

6. When he traded jibes with Jeff Bezos about which parts of space to conquer

Jeff Bezos owns a space exploration company called Blue Origin, a rival to Musk's own space exploration company SpaceX.

Bezos and Musk have sporadically interacted about their companies' successes, sometimes applauding each other, but more often locking antlers.

When Blue Origin unveiled its new lunar lander Blue Moon in May 2019 Bezos reportedly took a swipe at SpaceX's plans to colonize Mars during his presentation, saying that the moon was a much more realistic prospect. According to Bloomberg, Bezos showed a slide with a picture of Mars accompanied by the labels "Round-trip on the order of years" and "No real-time communication."

Musk responded by mocking the lander's name.

"Competition is good. Results in a better outcome for all... But putting the word "Blue" on a ball is questionable branding," Musk said in a pair of tweets.

Musk also called Bezos a "copycat" over his plan to launch thousands of satellites

In April 2019 Amazon announced its plan to launch 3,236 satellites with the aim of providing broadband to communities without high-speed internet, nicknamed Project Kuiper.

The project bears some resemblance to a SpaceX project called Starlink, which won FCC approval in November 2018 to launch almost 12,000 satellites into orbit. CNBC also reported that Amazon hired a former SpaceX executive to head up Kuiper.

After news of Project Kuiper broke, Musk tagged Bezos and tweeted the word "copy" followed by a cat emoji.

Bezos did not respond.

7. David Einhorn, the billionaire short seller Musk loves sending short shorts to

Musk has a pretty well-documented hatred for short sellers, once tweeting"what they do should be illegal."

One short seller in particular has drawn Musk's ire. David Einhorn is president of Greenlight Capital, and is typically pretty scathing in his notes about Tesla and Musk.

When Einhorn blamed Tesla's good performance in the first half of 2018 for denting Greenlight's hedge fund, Elon Musk promised to send him a box of "short shorts"— and he followed through.

In November 2019 Musk renewed the offer of short shorts after Einhorn published a damning note on Tesla's Q3 results, drawing attention to a shareholder's lawsuit against Tesla which alleges that Musk acquired his cousin's company SolarCity at an inflated value to bail it out.

Musk posted an incredibly sarcastic note on Twitter following Einhorn's letter, addressing him as "Mr. Unicorn." Einhorn is German for unicorn.

Identities of the victims in the volcano eruption on an island in New Zealand are emerging the day after the disaster.

As of Tuesday six deaths have been confirmed of the 47 people whom authorities say were on the island at the time of the eruption, around 2 p.m. Monday.

Eight more people who were on the island have yet to be found, and are presumed by authorities to be dead as well.

Only three of the 47 were relatively unscathed, and were discharged from the hospital after being checked over. The remaining 30 are being treated, some of whom are in a serious condition.

Here is everything we know about the victims so far.

The first of the dead to be named was local guide Hayden Marshall-Inman, who gave tours of the volcano

Marshall-Inman lived in the nearby town Whakatane Inman. His death was confirmed by his brother, Mark.

This Facebook post said Marshall-Inman died "doing the one thing he loved." The accompanying photograph appears to show Marshall-Inman (left) wearing a penguin onesie with his family in Sydney, Australia.

Speaking to 10 News mark Inman's described the Whakaari volcano as "magical" and said it had brought "so many magical memories" to visitors.

"Unfortunately it's taken one of our family," he said.

The US travel and credit-card rewards website The Points Guy held its second annual TPG Awards on Monday night.

At the gala, which was hosted by founder Brian Kelly on the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space museum, awards were presented throughout the nebulous world of credit cards, airlines, hospitality, travel, and, of course, points and miles.

Like last year, during the inaugural awards, JetBlue and Qatar Airways were big winners. In fact, JetBlue was the only airline to have two in-flight products win awards.

Still, there were a few surprises on the airline award list. The TPG airline product award winners were selected by the website's editorial staff who narrowed the field down to a handful of finalists. The staff then reviewed each of the candidates to determine the honoree for each category.

The TPG Awards for best credit cards, and hotel and airline loyalty programs, were selected entirely by the website's readers. According to The Points Guy, over 100,000 voters weighed in to select the 20 award winners.

Delta Air Lines SkyMiles nabbed the Readers' Choice award for best US Airline Loyalty program. Marriott Bonvoy was crowned Best Hotel Loyalty Program.

4 ways to stop checking your email so frequently

woman iPad checking

  • Checking your email can be a counterproductive habit.
  • It can also be costly for your employer — you can save 15 minutes a day by checking nine times instead of 15.
  • Turning off email notifications and removing the icon from your task bar are just two strategies for reducing the amount of time spent on email.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more.

Imagine for a minute that you just finished a 45-minute task at work or got out of a 30-minute meeting. What do you do next? If you're like most professionals, you check your email. In fact, you probably check your email every time you transition between tasks and aren't sure what to do next.

Checking email when transitioning makes sense if that's the only time you have to check your email, but in most cases, it is a counterproductive habit. Professionals check their email an average of 15 times per day, though many check much more often. When I asked one leader I was coaching how often he checked email, he said, "I don't know. I just have it open all the time and I'm pretty much always looking at it."

Over checking email is costly, too. You can save 13 minutes per day in just switching costs by checking nine times (the amount needed to meet most recipients' expectations) rather than 15.

Why do most people default to email checking when they have higher-priority items to do? The dopamine rush created by a quick email check certainly plays a role, but another psychological phenomenon called cognitive tunneling is also at play. Cognitive tunneling — also known as tunnel vision — occurs when your focus narrows during periods of elevated stress, making you, in effect, blind to things in your environment that you would normally perceive.

Charles Duhigg popularized the concept in his book "Smarter Faster Better," describing how the pilot of an Air France flight crashed a plane full of people into the Atlantic ocean because he couldn't see the simple error he was making that, in normal circumstances, any pilot would have caught.

When cognitive tunneling happens, you focus on the most salient or obvious things in your environment and default to what you have done repeatedly. Unfortunately, email is often one of the most salient applications in your environment. As my client said, he always had his email open. Email notifications, which interrupt most people every few minutes, keep email in your awareness constantly.

Workplace stress increases the likelihood of cognitive tunneling. On particularly busy days when you need to manage your time most precisely, you're most likely to become blind to your true priorities during task transitions.

The key to overcoming cognitive tunneling and eliminating email over-checking is found in these four strategies.

SEE ALSO: An expert at public speaking says that you should practice a presentation at least 10 times before giving it — here's why

1. Make email more obscure

You can make email easier to miss. Start by turning off notifications. Remove the mail icon from your start menu or task bar. If you're using Gmail, open your email in a different window than the one you use for other browsing. You can close your email entirely, but you may find that more time-consuming than over-checking. You can also download apps that temporarily block access to your email.

2. Make your priorities more salient

The best way to make your priorities more salient is to schedule time to complete them. In addition, do a daily calendar-priority sync: List your top three priorities and review your calendar to ensure you have time to complete them. By explicitly listing your top priorities, you'll be more likely to resort to them when transitioning. It helps to put emails you need to respond to on your to-do list so that you can compare the priority level of all your tasks in one place.

3. Develop a task transition routine

In "Smarter Faster Better," Duhigg describes another airline example that illustrates how to overcome the power of cognitive tunneling. In this example, the pilot rehearses several scenarios with his team before boarding the flight. When the flight suffers dramatic mechanical failures, the team defaults to the effective approaches they rehearsed and averts the disaster. Before starting your day, determine what you're going to do when you finish a task. If you aren't scheduling your tasks, a good routine begins with visiting your to-do list and reviewing your high priority items.

4. Reduce workplace stress

Stress leads to cognitive tunneling because it causes your brain to concentrate its resources. By reducing stress, you decrease the likelihood that you'll end up with tunnel vision. Workload is one of the most common workplace stressors, causing you to ruminate on questions you aren't sure how to answer. To reduce stress, proactively answer these questions.

The most productive people do what they feel is most important more of the time than anyone else. They avoid being dragged along by subconscious forces that constantly redirect their attention. Check email when you intend to — when it is the highest priority — and stay out of your inbox the rest of the time.

These are the 10 hottest destinations billionaires are traveling to in 2020

billionaires vacation

Billionaires are always on-the-go, even when they're vacationing.

Business Insider teamed up with boutique luxury travel agency Original Travel, which plans trips for high-net-worth individuals, to find out the hottest spots the elite are spending their money on in 2020. They based this ranking on the number of bookings and performance; the latter was assessed by feedback, their expertise, and client inquiries.

Overall, billionaires are seeking out the unknown and the exclusive, from off-the-beaten path Kyrgyzstan to Nicaragua, newly removed from the FCO travel warning list. They're also looking to set sail, opting for intimate luxury cruises in far-flung destinations like the Maldives and Antarctica.

While they seem to have a taste for the exotic, they're also headed to the Middle East and Europe to visit a few more well-traveled countries.

Here are the destinations the ultra-wealthy will be checking off their bucket lists in the new decade.

10. Nicaragua

With Nicaragua removed from the FCO travel warning list in 2019, it's set to welcome international visitors once again, Tom Barber, cofounder of Original Travel, told Business Insider. "Nicaragua has everything that we love so much about Costa Rica, but with fewer tourists and — as it's the largest country in Central America — more space to get off the beaten track," he said.

Its city of Granada has an edge over cities in neighboring countries, he added, for its colonial appeal, pastel-colored baroque buildings, and rich Spanish architecture.

9. Kyrgyzstan

Barber foresees an increase in tourism in Uzbekistan next year since it ditched its visa requirements for travelers from 45 countries including the UK. As such, he expects more intrepid travelers looking for somewhere untouched will head to neighboring Kyrgyzstan.

The country is home to mountains, Silk Road sites, and a nomadic culture. "We're seeing a rise in people wanting to go off-grid, digitally detox, and taste the kind of wilderness that is as yet still untouched, untamed, and untainted by tourism," Amelia Stewart, brand ambassador for Original Travel, told Business Insider. "Kyrgyzstan ticks those boxes, and also makes a fantastic combination tour with neighbouring Uzbekistan. It's a country on the cusp of discovery but not for much longer."

8. Maldives

Original Travel has seen a 396% increase in bookings in the Maldives for 2020, Barber said. It's largely because of the luxurious Four Seasons Explorer, a floating resort that only hosts a maximum of 22 guests.

Original Travel and Four Seasons teamed up to send the luxury catamaran to the remote southern atolls for the first time, hopping across the Maldives' most secluded islands and exploring some of the least visited dive sites, Barber said.

The Maldives is also home to plenty of luxury resorts. Baros Maldives, which includes 77 ultra-luxurious villas, has been dubbed the "World's Most Romantic Resort" by World Travel Awards for four years in a row, and six times total, reported Business Insider's Katie Warren. And the adults-only Kudaadoo Maldives Private Island was named the best new luxury hotel of 2019.

7. Jamaica

February is going to be prime-time for travel to Jamaica, thanks to "reliably good weather" and the 75th birthday anniversary of Jamaican native Bob Marley, according to Barber.

It's also home to plenty of luxury hotels, he said, such as the five-star Goldeneye, once home to James Bond creator Ian Fleming; cliffside resort Strawberry Hill; and Geeham, which has its own recording studio — Gwen Stefani, Drake, and Alicia Keys have stayed there, according to Oyster.

6. Antarctica

"2020 marks 200 years since Nathaniel Palmer laid claim to the discovery of the Antarctic mainland, making it an iconic year for all Antarctic travel," Barber said. Travelers are interested in the exclusive experience of the Magellan Explorer, an expedition vessel built for the Antarctic and the first small passenger ship to offer single cabins that launched in 2019.

More than 55,000 tourists visited Antarctica in the 2018-2019 season — an 18%-plus increase from a decade prior, according to data from the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. Most visitors come from the US, China, Australia, and the UK, many of them on luxury cruisesreported Warren.

5. Israel

Israel has seen several new transportation and hospitality openings set to make it a hot destination next year, according to Barber: Ramon airport, which opened in January 2019, "created an international gateway" to the Red Sea and Eilat; Virgin Atlantic launched a new daily service from Heathrow to Tel Aviv in September 2019; and Six Senses, a five-star luxury resort chain, is set to open in the Negev Desert in February 2020.

"Tel Aviv has seen a recent influx in tourism and from that, an increased demand in luxury hotels," Galit Heller, director of sales and marketing at The Jaffa, a five-star hotel in Tel Aviv, previously told Business Insider. "With an increased popularity, and a previous lack in the luxury hospitality scene, we see many luxury hotels popping up across Tel Aviv."

4. Chile

Barber has seen a 150% increase in 2020 bookings for Chile. He thinks it's partly because a solar eclipse is set to happen in the country on December 14, 2020, passing through the Chilean Lake District. The area offers a lot of opportunity for adventure, including hiking, horseriding, kayaking, and fishing, he said.

It's also a perfect spot for luxury seekers: Business Insider's David Slotnick stayed at Easter Island's primary all-inclusive luxury hotel, Explora Rapa Nui, and found his stay to be "phenomenal."

"Less traditional luxury — no white tablecloth breakfasts served on your private balcony overlooking the ocean — Explora offers the luxury of being able to let go of planning and logistics without sacrificing choice or personalization," Slotnick wrote.

3. Egypt

Egypt was the top destination for billionaires in 2019 and remains a top spot in the new decade. That's all thanks to the long-awaited re-opening of The Grand Egyptian Museum and Steam Ship Sudan, a cruise that glides down the Nile between Luxor and Aswan. Original Travel exclusively chartered the steamer for ten days during October 2020 to celebrate the film adaptation of Agatha's Christie's "Death on the Nile."

Egypt is steeped in history, with plenty of archaeological sites, temples, and tombs, and has numerous luxury offerings, from dining restaurants in Cairo to beach resorts along the coast of the Red Sea.

2. Portugal

"Just as 2019 seemed to be all about discovering hidden Greece, in 2020, eyes will turn to lesser-known Portugal," Barber said. "Currently famous for the Algarve and golf, travelers are starting to wake up to how much more the country has to offer."

Millennials favored the country in 2019 for its charming neighborhoods and buzzing nightlife, and now it seems that the wealthy are picking up on the hot spot as well.

The capital of Lisbon is home to the Bairro Alto neighborhood, where the eponymous luxury hotel recently reopened, and a "food scene that befits the hometown of star chef, Nuno Mendes," Barber added. Just south of Lisbon is Comporta, which has a "boho surfing vibe," and to the west are Portugal's Azore Islands, which have been compared to "a warm Iceland" for their dramatic volcanic landscape, Barber said.

1. England

September 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage and founding of Plymouth Colony. As such, the UK will be hosting cultural and artistic events throughout the whole year to celebrate, and Barber expects it to attract wealthy travelers.

Original Travel has been working on developing a tailor-made itinerary for history buffs to tour all the artistic gems and properties that played a role in leading up to the Mayflower sailing.

London, the country's capital city, is home to a number of luxury hotels including Claridge's, The Connaught, and The Dorchester.
