We went to the Oscars of Bollywood, a 5-hour extravaganza of glamorous stars, glitzy dances, and 25,000 crazed fans

NEW YORK — It was a night of glitz and glamour at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday, as the sporting venue — home of the New York Jets and the New York Giants — transformed into a colorful carnival for the International Indian Film Academy's (IIFA) annual awards ceremony.

The IIFA Awards, also known as the Oscars of Bollywood, are held at a new international destination every year, with New York City (technically New Jersey) playing host for the first time. It was the second time that the awards came to the US, however, with Tampa being a venue back in 2014.

For the uninitiated, the Indian film industry is the largest in the world, producing between 1,500 and 2,000 films a year in more than 20 languages. It is expected to reach over $3.7 billion in revenue by 2020, according to a study by Deloitte.

Bollywood is the colloquial name for the Hindi film industry, which dominates the Indian film industry and contributes 43% of its revenue. It gets its name from its center and birthplace, the city of Mumbai, previously called Bombay.

You may think you got a taste of Bollywood from the 2008 production "Slumdog Millionaire," but the British drama doesn’t even come close. Bollywood films are three hour-long extravaganzas, with an eclectic mix of dance, music, and high-octane drama.

Saturday’s event was nothing less — a five-hour fest replete with sets of awards, energetic dance performances, and stand-up comedy acts. IIFA itself was a four-day event beyond the awards ceremony, featuring a music concert IIFA Rocks and a fashion show at Times Square among a whole host of other activities.

Here's what it was like:

Bollywood has a burgeoning global audience. The MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, looked less like a sporting venue and more like a concert one this weekend, with over 25,000 people attending, according to stadium staff.

Hundreds of fans thronged the MetLife Stadium from mid-afternoon onwards on Saturday to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. Here, fans eagerly wait for Bollywood actors and actresses to arrive and walk the green carpet — IIFA's environmentally-friendly version of the red carpet.

IIFA aims to celebrate Indian cinema, and take it to the world. It's not a surprise then, that it partners with global Indian icons to take its mission forward. Award-winning Michelin starred Indian chef Vikas Khanna was one such icon in attendance on Saturday.

I've worked in a dozen countries — here are the 9 biggest mistakes people make when looking for a job overseas

$

GettyImages 150314964

I’ve worked in more than a dozen countries over the past three years — including Mongolia, South Africa, Turkey, Qatar, and Nigeria — but I used to have a much less exciting job working in the consulting division of a huge multinational company in New York City.

Having spent my college years studying Chinese and conducting research in Latin America, I dedicated my post-grad nights and weekends to figuring out how to put my International Relations degree and foreign language skills to good use. I wanted out.

Eventually I landed my global dream job, but it took two years. Since then, I’ve learned to help other young professionals find the international jobs they really want, and my clients have gotten hired everywhere from Ethiopia to Colombia. I’ve also helped raise awareness that professional global opportunities beyond teaching English or joining the Peace Corps do exist.

Now that I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, here are some of the worst rookie mistakes committed by international job seekers — and how to avoid them.

SEE ALSO: Small ways I've come to feel rich after 9 years of travel

1. Not knowing what you want

There's nothing more useless than hearing, "Well, I really want to make a difference, so I want to work in a developing country." Sigh. What’s your background? What’s your story? What are you good at? What did you study? Where have you worked before?

You have to find the overlap between what you're interested in doing and what you're qualified to do, and that overlap has to come in the form of a job title or at least an industry.

Tell me public health, or banking, or real estate. Tell me project management or accounting. Pick something. Pick the last thing you were employed to do and go from there. You have to narrow it down so you can actually network with people "over there" in that field and sniff out what jobs you might be able to get.

2. Not having a geography in mind

The second worse thing is someone saying, "Anywhere is fine. I’d really go anywhere."

No, no, no. You can’t throw darts at the whole map and hope to be successful. Pick a continent at least, better yet a country, and even better yet a city. It should make sense with your background, whether it's academic, personal, or professional. Did you grow up around a lot of Dominicans and speak Spanish? Did you do a short assignment in Russia and want to go back?

Something specific and something that makes sense.

3. Focusing on a popular geography

Lots of people want to work in England, but fewer people want to go to Estonia (hint: Tallinn is HOT for start-ups). Lots of people want to go to China, but fewer people think about working in Mongolia. Consider going off the beaten path where the talent is simply less concentrated.

Every year, Morgan Stanley analysts comb through their wealth of research to find the stocks they're most bullish on for the next year.

Last year's list posted a return of 11.38%—roughly 1% behind the S&P 500's total return for the same period.

The team just released their eighth annual "vintage value" list for next year based on the following criteria:

We focused on stocks rated Overweight by our analysts that also were favored by our US Equity Strategy Team's “BEST” model, which ranks stocks by expected market-relative performance on a 24-month horizon.

We then narrowed our focus to stocks with a favorable risk/reward profile, paying close attention to the skew of the analysts’ Bull and Bear Case valuation estimates.

We then also considered the sector weighting recommendations of our US Equity Strategy team, led by Chief Strategist Michael Wilson.

Finally, we conferred with the analysts to confirm their conviction that each of these stocks is an attractive one-year buy-and-hold investment opportunity.

Here are the best stocks to own over the next 12 months, according to Morgan Stanley.

20 books on college summer reading lists across the US

Many colleges develop summer reading programs with one or more books for the campus community or their incoming freshmen. These books, chosen by a panel of professors, students, or administrators, are meant to be the common point of reference used to spark discussion and conversation among members of campus.

A freshman taking her first step into the imposing halls of higher education and the intimidating, anonymous crowds of fellow students can take solace in knowing that she has at least one conversation starter up her sleeve. In a school where people from all walks of life are studying different fields and engaged in different interests, a book can be the bridge to understanding these differences or pushing against assumptions.

The books that colleges have chosen this year tell the stories of growing up as an immigrant, a broken justice system, the plight of poverty, and race in America. They also expose us to hidden struggles and triumphs, the secret to leading a happy life, and the significance of trash.

You don't need to be a college student to enjoy, ponder, question, or debate the ideas of these 20 books.

The best McDonald's McFlurry flavors, ranked

$

McFlurry

The INSIDER Summary:

  • McFlurries are one of McDonald's best desserts.
  • The popular treat consists of ice cream infused with various candy toppings.
  • The best choices include Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Oreo, and Twix.

We all like McDonald's. And, though we claim that we don't like it because it's unhealthy and processed, we all have a special place for the fast food in our heart. They have amazing nuggs, fries and, of course, McFlurries: decadent vanilla ice cream infused with candy and toppings galore, creating a thick, rich concoction. Here's a compilation of the most epic McDonald's McFlurry flavors that have been available in the U.S., both current and discontinued.

8. M&M

Instagram Embed:

Width: 800px

To begin the list is a classic: the M&M's McFlurry. Now, there is nothing wrong with it—it's perfectly fine. But that's precisely it. It's fine. It isn't great. It's just vanilla ice cream with M&M candies that, after a while, become rock-hard and basically inedible. The only redeeming quality is that it turns a cool color once your swirl the candies around, but other than that, it's lackluster.

7. Butterfinger

Instagram Embed:
http://instagram.com/p/_u6abUvWOM/embed/
Width: 800px

Butterfingers are an overlooked candy bar, but it has a strong cult following, one so strong that when Butterfinger McFlurries were discontinued in the early 2010s, people revolted and even made petitions. With the bits of crispy peanut butter and chocolate chips to add texture, it was much-needed to contrast from the other flavors available at the time.

6. Snickers

http://instagram.com/p/2uIxwZuFBp/embed/
Width: 800px

Snickers are known for being one of Selena Gomez's favorite junk foods, and for good reason. It's got silky caramel, crunchy peanuts, pillowy nougat—all encased in chocolate. Though I am saddened at the fact that it's discontinued to this day, it's ranked #6 on the list because I wanted more caramel sauce drizzled atop my McFlurry each time I ordered it to really elevate the dessert.

The best Dunkin' Donuts secret menu items

The INSIDER Summary:

  • Dunkin' Donuts has many delicious drinks on their "secret menu."
  • Some of the tastiest iced drinks include the Nutella Suprise and Cotton Candy Coolatta.
  • The best hot drinks include Raspberry Hot Chocolate and Coco Berry Coffee.

Everyone knows the saying, "America runs on Dunkin'. Just like everyone knows that similar to most other places, Dunkin' has two menus: one is regular the menu and the second is their "secret menu." The Dunkin' Donuts secret menu is not so popular, but it should be, because some of the items are crazy delicious. In an effort to increase the popularity of this secret menu, I've compiled the 10 things you need to try next the time you head to Dunkin' Donuts.

1. Birthday Cake Coolatta

Instagram Embed:
http://instagram.com/p/BQtYvZpFmr9/embed/
Width: 800px

This specific Coolatta is a combination of Dunkin's Hazelnut Swirl and Vanilla Bean Coolatta. It's a dupe for Starbuck's Birthday Cake Frapp, so be prepared to taste a lot of vanilla and hints of hazelnut.

2. Captain Crunch Coolatta

Instagram Embed:
http://instagram.com/p/BUNUq7cFnpg/embed/
Width: 800px

In order to get a Captain Crunch Coolatta, order a Strawberry Coolatta with added shots of blueberry, raspberry, and cream. It tastes kind of similar to the actual cereal but it's not overbearing.

3. Nutella Surprise

http://instagram.com/p/BVPeFaMAk_p/embed/
Width: 800px

Dunkin's Nutella Surprise is essentially two shots of hazelnut and Mocha Iced Coffee. It's surprisingly very chocolatey, even though there's no actual Nutella involved.

Martini

The INSIDER Summary:

  • Some of the most popular cocktail choices contain a surprising amount of sugar.
  • Keep in mind that sugar content can vary depending on the ingredients used.
  • The cocktails with the most sugar include piña coladas, margaritas, and mojitos.

Whenever I go to a bar, I order a cocktail — and ask for the sweetest one available on the menu. Even with all the scrutiny about always ordering a "girly" cocktail, I stick to my favorites. As much as I don't want to know how much sugar is really in these cocktails, I probably should know. And so should you. Here are your favorite cocktails' sugar content, ranked from low to high.

#SpoonTip: The cocktails' sugar content can vary depending on what ingredients you use.

1. Martini: 0.11 grams

There are 160 calories in one Martini. The calorie breakdown is 0% fat, 97% carbs and 3% protein, with 0.11 grams of sugar.

2. Bloody Mary: 3.6 grams

This brunch favorite contains 123 calories and 3.6 grams of sugar. To be honest, it's not as bad as I expected.

3. Mimosa: 10.35 grams

A Mimosa contains 144 calories and 10.35 grams of sugar. A big jump from the Bloody Mary, but hey, sometimes you just have to do it for a perfect brunch

Miley and Liam

While many celebrity couples are finished faster than you can say "K-Fed," Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's relationship has spanned nearly a decade.

They may not have been dating the whole time, but Miley and Liam's relationship had some serious ups and downs that you may not even remember.

Take a trip down memory lane with us as they grew from co-stars to shacking up in Malibu.

July 2009: The pair met on the set of "The Last Song."

Liam and Miley met playing love interests in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' "The Last Song." Sparks — get it? — flew on and offscreen.

November 2009: Miley started relationship rumors.

In an interview with Seventeen Magazine, Miley called Liam her "best friend," but wouldn't confirm or deny that they were dating.

"We've decided that any type of relationship that we have, we will always just keep it very [private]," she said in the interview. "First and foremost, we are best friends, so that's what I tell people all the time."

She gushed about him so many times in the interview, it was clear to see that she was over-the-moon about him.

March 2010: The pair confirmed their relationship.

Liam and Miley walked the red carpet together for the first time during the 2010 Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party. The pair confirmed that night that they were dating.

Later that month, they walked the red carpet for "The Last Song" together.

money

Putting money into your savings account is a lot easier said than done.

No matter how much advice you get, or frugal you try to be, you may not always be able to save as much as you want.

Since we could all benefit from some extra help, and some extra money, INSIDER rounded up 12 free apps that make it easier than ever to find savings in your everyday life.

You can use Walmart's Savings Catcher to scan your receipts and get money back on your purchases.

Walmart's app has a bunch of time- and money-saving features, but its Savings Catcher is the best one by far. All you have to do is scan your Walmart receipt and submit it to the Savings Catcher. If Walmart finds a lower price for that item from another retailer, you'll get an eGift Card for the difference.

Available on: iOSAndroid

Earny makes it even easier to get money back on your purchases by automatically searching for price drops and claiming the difference for you.

It can be frustrating to figure out whether to buy an item now or wait to see if its price will drop.

Earny is a bot that helps you take advantage of price protection policies offered by stores and credit card companies that you probably don't even know about. All you have to do is link the app with your email and Amazon accounts, and the app will request refunds for you. Just one thing: Earny does keep 25% of the money you get back.

To see a full list of participating retailers and credit card issuers, head over to Earny's website.

Available on:iOS, Android

A personal favorite, RetailMeNot is a quick and dependable way to save money on almost everything you buy.

Before buying anything online, I always check RetailMeNot for coupons or promotion codes I may have missed. You can also use the app in stores by scanning coupons right on your phone.

One of the best features of this app is the ability to set alerts for sales nearby, so you can take advantage of deals as soon as they pop up.

I went on a tour through Northern Ireland inspired by 'Game of Thrones' — here's what I saw

The seventh and penultimate season of the TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series Game of Thrones premiered in the US last night (July 16).

As a die-hard fan of the epic series myself, I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to visit a couple of the show’s famed filming sites while on an overseas university exchange in Sweden late last year.

When I sat down to plan which countries to visit while I was there, I had a serious case of wanderlust for Northern Ireland — mostly because so many iconic scenes in the TV series were shot there.

Despite surviving on a student-friendly budget, I forked out the student price of $47 (S$65) for the Belfast Iron Islands & Stormlands Adventure package from the local Game of Thrones Tours company.

A cult hit suffused with a effortless blend of natural and man-made landscapes, the show chronicles a battle to the death among rival houses for the ultimate prize: the Iron Throne.

Let’s backtrack a few seasons and let me take you on a $47 tour of places I visited when summer was everlasting in Westeros and Jon Snow still knew nothing.

SEE ALSO: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard prove they're the biggest 'Game of Thrones' fans with this hilarious music video

Does Carnlough Harbour look a tad familiar? That’s because it’s also the steps of Braavos where Arya Stark climbed out of the water.

“Valar Morghulis,” our tour guide — who incidentally starred as a wildling extra in the TV series — greeted us. The phrase translates to “all men must die,” which is a customary greeting in the show.

One of our first few stops was the Cushendun caves, a rocky beach where the red priestess Melisandre gave birth to a shadow assassin in Season 2.

Patek Philippe 0457

Patek Philippe, one of today's most iconic and expensive Swiss watch brands, has opened a one-of-a-kind exhibit in New York City.

Situated in a two-story structure inside Cipriani's flagship location on 42nd Street, "The Art of Watches, Grand Exhibition New York 2017" is 15,000 square feet of sparkling and historic watches.

Visitors walk through rooms that build on each other with "a different experience and a different motif," said Larry Pettinelli, the president of Patek Philippe's US business.

The exhibit is meant, in part, to expose the brand to a younger generation who aren't buying watches like their parents did.

"It's a watch. Yes, it tells time, but in your lifetime how many things do you really buy that you intend to keep for two, to three, to four generations?" Pettinelli told Business Insider. "Most people [today] are buying things as a throwaway generation."

He added: "There are still companies out there that care about doing the art for the sake of the art — not just to make money."

The exhibit is open through July 23. Let's take a look inside.

SEE ALSO: This watch company is the perfect example of why Trump's 'Made in America' initiative is easier said than done

The exhibit is located in Cipriani in Midtown Manhattan, in a space that was once a bank.

Inside, visitors are immediately greeted with a reproduction of the historic facade of Patek Philippe's workshop in Geneva.

A larger reception area is there to give visitors guidance.

12 workout accessories that will help you prevent your next gym injury

woman running stretching fitness exercise joggingWith all the ads out there for wrinkle-removing eye-cream, life-altering natural mud masks, and a widespread — albeit vague — idea that we can live much longer if we take baby aspirin once a day, it can be easy to forget that we are not entirely in control of what our body does or does not do.

We wrinkle, but the subtext of that is that we age. You can slow it down, but it’s a fact of living in a body that doesn’t regenerate like a salamander.

In the same vein, it can be easy to see our body as an everlasting, unchanging source of energy, power, and safe from serious injury or the many, many ways of experiencing "wear and tear" until they actually happens to us. So, in other words: we are invincible....until we are not.

The irony of this issue, though, is that if we acknowledge the fact that our body needs a little consideration and thought, and that even if we don’t want it to, it is aging and experiencing wear and tear, we can treat it correctly now, and experience comfort and mobility for longer.

We all know we’re supposed to stretch before exercise and probably after, and it’s smart not to do squats with your knees over your toes or some other things like that. But how many of us take it seriously that discomfort — small or big—could happen to us?

For me, it wasn’t until I really started speaking with other people I knew personally who enjoyed working out and realized the scope and frequency of injuries — many of which I simply did not want to have. I’ll ruin the illusion for myself now and admit that I am not an immortal Greek God and invest in practices and products that might make me a super vivacious lady "for my age" at 97.

Having to sit out from a workout plan or hang back from the gym because you’ve pulled a muscle and don’t want to overdo it — or worse, ignoring those signs from your body and going ahead anyway — is not fun or smart for anybody, in the long-term or short-term game.

Taking a few more minutes now to go through the proper motions before a workout (stretching, eating, drinking water, and applying things like anti-chafe cream) will not only help you perform better and for longer, but it will also increase the enjoyability of your fitness regime.

Rolling out muscles, applying heating or cooling packs, and taking a rest day or cross training are some of the ways we can take care of our bodies.

If you’re able to get to the gym and use your body in your exercise regime, you’re probably capable of taking care of it while it takes care of you. Investing in healthy conditions and environment will give back to you today and over time.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your gym teacher in seventh grade likely told you the same thing, but stretching really is important to get muscles warmed up and loose before and after a workout.

This Stretch Out Strap is the kind of inexpensive tool most of us need to ensure we do the practice and also do it deeper and more correctly than if we just left it up to the moment. 9 mistakes parents make that can hurt their kids

kid child broken leg injury

Parents want their kids to be healthy and happy, and they do everything they can to keep their little ones out of harm's way. But even the most attentive parents could be relying on habits that aren't totally safe or expert-approved.

Some things that seem perfect for kids — like playground slides and shopping cart baby seats — are actually common causes of physical injury. And some parenting habits that seem well-intentioned — like a strict set of rules — could ultimately be bad for kids' emotional development.

Here are nine surprising ways that your child might get hurt — physically or emotionally — and how to keep them safe.

SEE ALSO: I was the poster child for corporate ambition — but becoming a dad taught me to think about work in a whole different way

1. Trying to make them happy 100% of the time.

Trying to make your child happy all the time sounds like a worthy mission, but Tovah Klein, PhD, director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development, told INSIDER that it could hurt your child in the long run. Instead, let them work through their times of upset — it can help them get stronger emotionally.

"It doesn't give the child a chance to learn to handle negative feelings," she said. "When children experience mild stressors, they learn to overcome hurdles — it helps build resilience."

2. Letting them exercise on a trampoline.

Parents might buy a trampoline hoping it'll make their kids more active. Unfortunately it might come with unwanted side effects: Last year the Consumer Product Safety Commission estimated that more than 100,000 kids visited the hospital because of trampoline injuries.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says that kids of any age shouldn't use trampolines at home, in gym classes, or on playgrounds — only in supervised training for sports like gymnastics. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons says kids 6 and under should flat-out never jump on trampolines.

But if your kids do use trampolines, the safest way to do so is one at a time: A 2012 study found that the majority of trampoline injuries occur when there's more than one person on the mat at once. Also make sure that bouncing kids have adult supervision and that no parts of the trampoline are damaged.

3. Letting them ride in a shopping cart.

Shopping cart seats are a surprisingly common source of injury. Between 1990 and 2011, shopping cart injuries sent an average of 66 kids per day to the ER, according to a 2014 study in the journal Clinical Pediatrics. (Most incidents happen when kids fall out of the cart or the cart tips over.) Even scarier: Most of the injured children in the study were under 4 years old, and more than 90% of their injuries were to the head.

The Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital has a few tips for keeping kids safe at the grocery store. First, if the child is old enough, ask them to walk with you, or consider an alternative like a wagon or a stroller. If that's not possible, see if you can find a cart with child seat that's lower to the ground. Finally, always make sure that the safety straps are fastened snugly around your child and stay near the cart at all times — it can be very easy for kids to tip a cart over while they're sitting in it.

‘The Irishman’: 9 things to know about Martin Scorsese’s $100 million ‘Goodfellas’ reunion

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro

Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” may have been his 28-year-old passion project, but it was mostly ignored by audiences, grossing only $7 million in the U.S. opposite a $40 million budget. Something tells us the same fate won’t meet the director’s next project, which carries an even bigger budget and bigger stars.

“The Irishman” is gearing up for production this summer, and it brings Scorsese back to the genre he helped define in the modern era and reunites him with some of the actors he helped make iconic. Anticipation is sky high (and warranted, given everything we know about the movie). Here are the 9 most essential bits of information you need to know:

1. The movie is Martin Scorsese’s first gangster movie in over a decade

Scorsese has built his career on iconic gangster movies, from “Goodfellas” to “Casino,” “Mean Streets” and “The Departed,” so his return to the genre after more than a decade is cause for celebration.

“The Irishman” is based on the 2003 book “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt, which recounts the years Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran spent as a mob hitman. Brandt interviewed Sheeran over a five-year period, during which the mobster confessed to being involved in more than 25 hits for the mob. Sheeran was allegedly involved in the death of legendary mob boss Jimmy Hoffa, who went missing in July 1975 and was never found.

2. But it’s not your classic Martin Scorsese gangster movie

Anyone hoping for Scorsese to capture the cinematic energy of “Goodfellas” once again may want to lower their expectations. It appears the filmmaker is going to be making a much more elegiac and sobering gangster movie this time around. “The Irishman” picks up with Sheeran as an older man as he looks back on the hits that defined his mob career.

“The people are also older in ‘The Irishman,’ it’s certainly more about looking back, a retrospective so to speak of a man’s life and the choices that he’s had to make,” Scorsese told The Independent in May.

As to whether the movie follows in the tradition of “Goodfellas”? He told the outlet, “I think this is different, I think it is. I admit that there are – you know, ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Casino‘ have a certain style that I created for them – it’s on the page in the script actually…The style of the picture, the cuts, the freeze-frames, all of this was planned way in advance, but here it’s a little different.”

3. Scorsese is working with Robert De Niro for the first time in 22 years

Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s careers are intertwined after making eight movies together, including “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull” and “The King of Comedy.” But the duo haven’t made a movie together since “Casino,” which was released 22 years ago in November 1995. “The Irishman” will mark their ninth collaboration.

While Scorsese’s career in the two decades since has remained strong, De Niro hasn’t really had a critically acclaimed lead dramatic role in several years. He earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for “Silver Linings Playbook,” but reuniting with Scorsese is just what his big screen career needs most right now.

If the worst climate change predictions come true, hundreds of coastal US towns and cities — from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Galveston, Texas — could disappear under water by 2100.

The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Agency released a report in January that hinted at the possibility of an "extreme" sea-level rise scenario that could cause chronic flooding to affect as many as 670 coastal communities. That scenario is considered unlikely, but possible.

Research group Climate Central took the projections laid out in NOAA's report and created a plug-in for Google Earth that shows how catastrophic the damage would be if the flooding happened today. You can install it (directions here) and see anywhere in the US.

Here are seven US towns and cities that could go underwater in your children's lifetime.

A Republican senator jumped subway tracks to try to get away from reporters asking about the healthcare bill

Kansas senator Jerry Moran has been hounded by reporters since announcing Monday night that he wouldn't vote for the Republican healthcare bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

When confronted by reporters on Tuesday on Capitol Hill, Moran opted to jump across the tracks of the Senate subway to get away from them:

Jerry Moran

Moran, along with fellow Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, together doomed the BCRA when they announced Monday they would vote against a motion to proceed on the Senate Republican leadership's repeal-and-replace bill.

While Moran criticized the secretive process used to draft the bill and the fact it could roll back protections for people with preexisting conditions, Lee thought the BCRA didn't go far enough to rollback entitlements.

After the failure of the BCRA, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced plans to vote on only repealing the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, without replacing it at the same time. That plan was quickly scuttled as well when Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia all said they wouldn't vote for it.

Moran's dash across the tracks was unsuccessful, as journalists did catch up to him. Associated Press photojournalist Andrew Harnik captured the media circus that ensued:

Moran tried to walk past the crowd of reporters as he arrived on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

But they caught him.

Moran did spend "several minutes" talking to reporters before bolting across the subway tracks, and talked to them after, too.

British Airways safety video

The in-flight safety video is an important, but commonly overlooked part of the flying experience. To overcome this challenge, airlines often use gimmicks such as colorful animations or in Virgin America's case, an elaborate musical number.

And then there's the always trusty celebrity cameo. That's exactly the route British Airways has chosen.

On Tuesday, the airline released its new star-studded in-flight safety video in conjunction with the charity Comic Relief.

"It’s extremely important to us that customers engage with our safety video, and involving some of the nation’s most well-known personalities has given us the chance to create something fun that we hope people will watch from start to finish - and remember," British Airways chairman and CEO Alex Cruz said in a statement.

"We’ve worked with Comic Relief since 2010 and our customers have already helped us generate £16.5 million for great causes. We hope the new video will enable us to exceed our goal of raising £20 million by 2020."

The new video will make its debut on British Airways flights in September.
