4 charts that will completely change the way you see 'Star Wars'

Daisy Ridley Rey Star Wars Force Awakens

Do you know which character says "The Force" the most throughout the "Star Wars" film saga or how long it would take you to consume every "Star Wars" movie, TV show, novel, and comic book?

If you think you know a lot about "Star Wars," you may want to think again. Entertainment Weekly Creative Director Tim Leong put together a collection of over 75 fun infographics, bar charts, and pie charts that dissect the "Star Wars" universe.

"Star Wars Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to A Galaxy Far, Far Away" tackles everything from listing the fastest ships in the galaxy (the A-wing starfighter) to a definitive ranking of lightsabers (the Grand Inquistor's and Darth Maul's take the cake). Some of the charts are funny — one illustrates R2-D2 telling Luke his chances of survival in "Empire Strikes Back" are 725 to 1 — while others include heavy research and offer insights into the saga you may not have considered otherwise.

Chronicle Books shared several of the fun infographics with INSIDER for the book's release Tuesday, July 25, breaking down the opening crawl and Rey's "The Force Awakens" vision better than we've ever seen. Next time you watch a "Star Wars" film, keep these things in mind.

SEE ALSO: 22 stars you didn't know were in the 'Star Wars' movies

While you may be waiting for the opening crawl to end before the start of each movie, how much do you really know about it?

The crawl in "Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens" has the most words of any movie. It's also interesting that "Episode VI — Return of the Jedi" is the only film to use three periods in the elipses at the end of the credits instead of four.

In case you ever wanted to recreate the opening on your own, the two fonts used are News Gothic Bold (for the text) and Univers 49 UltraCondensed Light (for each film's title).

Yoda has said "The Force" the most in every "Star Wars" movie, but he only said it one more time than Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The term was used the most in the original "Star Wars" movie and "Episode III." Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Force is mentioned the most by the light side of the Force instead of the dark.

This is the most thorough breakdown of Rey's vision in "The Force Awakens" we've ever seen. It points out some things we never noticed.

Did you realize Emperor Palpatine has a line in Rey's vision? Go back and take a listen and it happens at 1:06:13 in the movie! It's not in the closed captioning, but it's there right as Kylo Ren starts walking towards Rey.

The breakdown also confirms that Luke and R2-D2 are outside a temple (a Jedi temple?) that has a nearby fire. It supports our theory that Luke was training a group of young Jedi before they were slain by Kylo Ren and his warriors.

Two more lines which don't appear with the closed captions on are three lines from Obi-Wan Kenobi from "Episode V": "You will be tempted,""But you cannot control it," and "You will do it ..."

Getting to the gym isn’t remotely easy for most of us.

Things like working late, having a long commute, and preferring not to exercise with gusto in front of others can keep many people from seeing returns on their expensive gym memberships.

Sometimes between the long nights and the long commutes the only time you have for yourself is the morning, and that free time often cut from prospective sleep hours seems to be ill-used on commutes to and from the gym.

For all those reasons and more, home gym equipment can be a turning point — an invaluable tool in maintaining the kind of fit body and lifestyle you want.

When I was working full-time and taking night classes, I knew that I’d likely never see the inside of a gym — the hours weren’t times that I could make and there definitely wasn’t a convenient 24-hour center nearby. I wasn’t content with losing enough muscle tone to one day flop over like Harry Potter’s arm when his bone is magicked away in one of the movies. So I invested in equipment that I could use when I got home. And it was really great — not only did it always work with my schedule, but on the particularly tiring days I never felt the need to compete with anyone else just to show that I was not always so lackluster — I was the only one there, and I knew how tired I was, so I just gave myself credit for the effort.

Home gym equipment isn’t for everyone, but it can be a way to cut down on monthly costs like gym fees and increase the convenience and comfortability of exercise for people all over the world.

Whether you’re trying a new resolution, are landlocked at home, or have another one of the millions of little reasons why home gym equipment might be nice to have around, it’s wise to pick something up that works for you and whatever your specific fitness goals are.

A dean of MBA admissions who's read over 50,000 applications answers 5 burning questions about getting into business school

$

Isser Gallogly

Business school admissions are competitive, with schools looking for the right mix of experience, undergraduate grades, and GMAT test scores.

With so many components of an MBA application, sometimes it's unclear what stands out most to a reviewer.

Isser Gallogly, associate dean of MBA Admissions at New York University's Stern School of Business, visited Business Insider and provided some insight into what he most looks for in a winning application.

With 15 years of experience in MBA admissions at Stern, Gallogly has reviewed more than 50,000 applications.

Read on below to hear his best advice for getting into a top business program.

SEE ALSO: As student loan debt reaches record levels, there's finally some good news about the cost of college

How do I decide between full-time or part-time business school?

"Business school is much more than the classroom experience," Gallogly said. "A huge part of the MBA program [is] the networking opportunities ... you're building a network for life."

There are trade-offs when thinking about pursuing a part-time or a full-time program.

"If being fully immersed in your experience in business school is incredibly important to you, a full-time program obviously optimizes that," he said.

"With a full-time program, there's more investment in terms of the cost because you're forgoing income but you have more time to invest in the program. With part-time, you're obviously keeping your job, keeping your income, so there's less opportunity cost, but on the flip side, you have less time to go to business school and get engaged and involved."

How do I write a great application essay?

"We often get the question how creative should you be when you're writing your essays to business school," Gallogly said.

"Should your first sentence be, 'Call me Ishmael,' or, 'It was a dark and stormy night,' or, 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times?' You don't necessarily have to have a headline or a grabber."

Instead, Gallogly said that it's most important ensure you stay on message for the prompt.

"I always say 'AQA:' Answer the question asked," he said. "Respond to the prompts, do it completely. "That said, make sure you get across who you are in this essay."

Finally, convey yourself and your goals clearly. "I would treat this a little bit more like if you are presenting a business case on yourself and you are providing almost an executive summary as to who you are, what you're about, and why you're going to business school," he said.

How can I get good feedback on my essay before I apply?

"The general principle about what stands out are people who are really speaking from the heart," Gallogly said.

"I've been in the business for 15 years. I've probably looked at 50 to 60,000 applications in that time. The essays that stand out are the ones where you can hear the person's voice, where you can feel the person's passion."

To ensure that you accurately present that voice, read your essay to someone close to you. "Just ask them the simple question: Does this sound like me? Is this my voice? Is this authentic to who I am?" Gallogly said.

"There's a reason you want to go to business school," he said. "We need to hear that excitement from you."

Here are all the biggest revelations from HBO's new Princess Diana documentary

diana doc hugs

The INSIDER Summary:

  • A new documentary called "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy" marks 20 years since Princess Diana's death.
  • In it, Prince William and Prince Harry share photos and memories of their mother.
  • The loss is still raw, but they continue to feel her presence in their lives.

To some she was known as Princess Diana, a celebrity famous for marrying into the British royal family. To others, she was a friendly face in a hospital room or homeless shelter. But to Prince William and Prince Harry, she was simply their mother, someone who loved them unconditionally and left their lives too soon.

A new documentary on HBO pays tribute to Princess Diana's legacy as a parent and a humanitarian 20 years after her death. In "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy," Prince William and Prince Harry share photos from her personal album, talk about their early years with her, and hear stories about her from close friends and associates.

Here are 11 things we learned from the documentary.

Before she was a fashion icon, Princess Diana stole her friend William van Straubenzee's shirts.

He describes her eccentric fashion sense as a young woman, including shirts with hippos on them.

She read trashy romance novels.

"Whenever you saw her alone she'd have picked up some trashy romantic novel," said van Straubenzee. "She was a bit of a dreamer."

She had a sense of fun and mischief.

Prince Harry remembers how she would smuggle candy into their football practice and stuff it into their socks.

"Our mother was a total kid through and through," says Prince Harry. "[...] One of her mottos to me was 'you can be as naughty as you want, just don't get caught.'"

Jaguar's F-PACE is an astonishingly beautiful luxury SUV

Jaguar F PACE 11

It's a Jaguar. It's an SUV. It's a Jaguar SUV.

That day finally came last year. At the Los Angeles auo show in 2015, Jaguar Land Rover officially unveiled its first-ever sport utility for the US market. In 2016, we got our hands on it.

In the flesh, the F-PACE, was as stunning on the street as we initially thought it was on the showroom floor in LA. The name, which is meant to connect the crossover in nomenclature with Jag's F-Type sports cars, is weird. But the machine is beautiful — the most gorgeous SUV currently available, we think, thanks to the aesthetic ministrations of designer Ian Callum.

Jaguar shares a corporate stable with Land Rover, so it's not as if these folks don't know how to bolt together a stupendous offroader. They've been doing it for decades.

The F-Pace now also has a stablemate: Jag is adding a smaller SUV, the E- PACE, to the lineup. Makes sense, as the F-PACE has been a big hit for the automaker.

So how did the first Jaguar SUV stack up? After all, Jag is a sedan-and-sports-car brand, full of British panache. Does a suburban family hauler really fit, even it if that's what the market wants?

We had a few days in the Northeast with the 2017 F-PACE to find out:

Photos by Hollis Johnson.

SEE ALSO: One of these 15 finalists will become Business Insider's 2016 Car of the Year

SEE ALSO: The new E-PACE baby luxury SUV is exactly what Jaguar needs

Our $72,000 test vehicle was extremely well kitted out, as they might say across the pond. It was the "First Edition" trim level, and the color was an alluring Caesium Blue. Only 275 will be built.

It isn't easy to design a stylish, sporty SUV. In fact, it's nearly impossible. The basic form for the segment is a large rectangular box with a wheel at each of the four corners and a big liftgate dominating the rear. But Callum has performed magic with the F-PACE.

The legendary Jaguar badge is fairly tasteful emblazoned on the finely boned, blacked out front grille. No leaping cat hood ornament, unfortunately.

No matter how popular touchscreens have become, the good old fashioned computer mouse is here to stay when it comes to productivity.

Few computer mice have gotten as much love and attention than Logitech's acclaimed MX Master, and the company recently released its successor, the MX Master 2S.

For $99, it's on the pricey side, especially when you can get much cheaper mice that will work just fine. Yet, the MX Master 2S poses some very tempting feature propositions that could make its price tag worth it.

Check out the Logitech MX Master 2S:

SEE ALSO: This strange-looking mouse is the most comfortable one I've ever used

The MX Master 2S is Logitech's follow-up to its much-loved original MX Master mouse, and Logitech didn't fix what's not broken.

The MX Master's design is so good that Logitech seemingly had nothing to add or take away from it: The design is unchanged for the MX Master 2S. Indeed, Logitech touts the MX Master's hand-crafted design, and the company even made a design film about it:

The MX Master 2S is extremely comfortable, but comfort isn't what sets it apart.

As far as computer mice go, the MX Master 2s is among the most comfortable I've used. I used to use an Apple Magic Mouse 2 for work, but it's now so uncomfortable compared to the MX Master 2s that I'll be ditching the Magic Mouse 2.

It can work on almost any surface, including glass.

If you're not aware, mice don't work on all surfaces, especially not glass. The MX Master 2, though, has a special sensor that lets it track your movements on pretty much any flat surface, even on glass.

Homes can be expensive in Beijing, China.

A design firm in the area, called People's Architecture Office (PAO), heard from a woman who was struggling to afford a home, and had taken to living in a small, dilapidated house in the courtyard of her parents' residence outside the city.

Fed up with the poor conditions, Mrs. Fan (who declined to give her full name for privacy reasons), commissioned PAO to build her a new home.

The architects designed what they call a Plug-in House for her in December 2016.

With just $10,000 worth of materials and a hex wrench, a construction team can build the Plug-in House in less than 24 hours, PAO's principal, James Shen, told Business Insider in March. The firm based the design on a similar one it used to create a renovation system that consists of locking pre-fabricated panels.

In July 2017, the Plug-in House made the shortlist for the World Architecture Festival's World Building of the Year award. The winner will be named at the festivalin Berlin in November.

Buffalo Wild Wings just opened a new type of store to win back millennials who are ditching the chain (BWLD)

B Dubs Express

As millennials ditch the casual dining industry, Buffalo Wild Wings is hoping that a new type of store can reinvigorate the business.

On Monday, the chain opened its first B-Dubs Express location in Edina, Minnesota.

The new location, along with a similar model in Hopkins, Minnesota, that is set to open in early August, will be counter-service and more focused on take-out, though they will still have televisions showing sports. In contrast to the typical expansive Buffalo Wild Wings sports bar, the locations will only have seating for 35 to 50 customers.

Buffalo Wild Wings has struggled to attract customers in recent months, something that executives have blamed, in part, on millennials' dining preferences. The convenience-centric express locations seem to be an attempt to address this issue.

"Millennial consumers are more attracted than their elders to cooking at home, ordering delivery from restaurants, and eating quickly, in fast-casual or quick-serve restaurants," Buffalo Wild Wings CEO Sally Smith recently wrote in a letter to shareholders.

Here's what the new location looks like.

At B-Dubs Express, the branding is familiar — even if the name of the restaurant is not.

It's going all-in with bold decor, trying to cram as much personality as possible into the smaller space.

The counter is set up so that customers can order their food and either grab it to eat in the restaurant or take it out.

But when a T-shirt doesn't cut it, and it's time to get ready for the office, they quickly become multi-functional. When dressing professionally, belts are just as important as other accessories like neckties and can become a part of your overall style.

Just like shoes, no single belt will fit with all outfits, so it's important to have a selection to choose from. Whether you're searching for one that's subtle, goes with your wardrobe, or makes a statement, each look can be achieved with this one accessory.

From staples like brown and black leather to more colorful rope options, the choices below will keep your wardrobe ready for any occasion.

The black belt.

Just like the previous option, a black leather belt is necessary when wearing black shoes. This color choice is perfect when going for a blacked out look with a tuxedo.

The tan belt.

While just as functional, the tan leather belt shouldn't be your primary choice. It stands out a bit more than brown, so it's great when you're going for a casual look like a button-up shirt and jeans. Also, if you're wearing tan shoes, you'll want to keep the color consistent with your belt choice.

The 7 scariest challenges facing the British economy, according to analysts

$

Union Jack man

LONDON — Once Britain recovered from the worst of the crippling damage done by the financial crisis, the economy started to tick along at a reasonable pace.

Since June 2016, however, when Britain voted to take itself out of the European Union, volatility and political intrigue have returned to the country's macroeconomic picture.

Britain now faces a whole heap of issues, many of which are tied to Brexit. Inflation is surging, consumer spending is slowing, productivity remains mired in pre-crisis growth levels, and uncertainty reigns supreme.

But which issue is the most important?

Business Insider got in touch with strategists, analysts and economists from banks, asset managers, and research houses asking them to let us know what they believe is the single biggest issue facing the British economy.

We've rounded up a handful of the most interesting responses, including charts to illustrate the arguments made by those respondents.

Check them out below:

Daniel Morris, Senior Investment Strategist, BNP Paribas Asset Management

The challenge: Inflation

What's going on:Inflation has jumped to its highest level since 2013 in the year following the Brexit vote as the pound plunged in value against the dollar. While it saw a surprise fall from 2.9% to 2.6% in June, the level of price growth for everyday goods and services remains worryingly high, and well above the Bank of England's 2% target.

Their view: "Inflation is probably the biggest challenge currently facing the UK economy.  The depreciation of sterling is raising import prices and therefore diminishing consumer purchasing power, while at the same time wage growth is slowing down.  This weakness in consumer demand, combined with the anticipated slowdown in business investment during the Brexit negotiation period, means that it will be difficult for the UK economy to maintain the level of growth it experienced during 2016."

James Knightley, Chief International Economist at ING

The challenge: The British consumer

What's going on: One of the knock-on impacts of inflation's surge in the last year is that British consumers are feeling the squeeze as prices rise, but wages do not. In the second quarter of this year, Visa's widely watched index of consumer spending recorded the weakest quarter for expenditure since Q3 2013.

Their view: "My immediate worry is for the UK consumer. The squeeze on spending power from weak wage growth and rising prices has led households to borrow more through credit cards and personal loans. Now the Bank of England is trying to clamp down on this for reasons of financial stability it is difficult to see how households can maintain their current levels of spending."

Laith Khalaf, Senior Analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown

The challenge:  The Bank of England's interest rate dilemma.

What's going on: Brexit has speared the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee on the horns of a dilemma.

The central bank must balance growing inflation – which usually calls for an interest rate hike – with the slowdown in the economy and dwindling consumer spending, which requires rates to fall.

Their view: "Dealing with Brexit is going to be a long drawn out process, but if I had to choose one immediate issue it would be the challenge facing monetary policy. On the one hand, consumer credit is rising sharply, and in order to tackle this, the Bank of England would like to raise rates just to show that they go up as well as down.

"After a decade of falling interest rates, 8 million Britons have now never seen an interest rate rise in their adult life. However economic growth is weak and looks to be slowing, and any rise in interest rates is likely to slow down consumer spending, which is a key driver of returns.

"So the Bank of England is left walking a tightrope between trying to put a cap on unsecured borrowing which stores up problems for the future and keeping the economy ticking over in the here and now."

Volkswagen VW Golf familyFor most young people and their parents, buying a first car is a major step.

One great option is to look at used cars, which can often be had for a fraction of the cost of brand-new models.

We came up with 23 used cars we think are the best for the young car buyer on a budget.

To make our list, we focused on cars that are available on the market right now for under $15,000. We looked for ones that are reliable, fun to drive, comfortable, attractive, economical, practical, and most of all, safe.

For safety, we checked out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) moderate front overlap crash test ratings for the cars we selected. 2009-Present Honda Fit

Starting price: $8,000 and up

IIHS crash test rating: Good

Why buy it: The Honda Fit has been an unqualified success across the globe for the automaker. The Fit offers fun, versatility, and reliability in a compact package.

Honda's second generation Fit, sold from 2009 to 2012, is powered by the company's trusty 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 117. Since 2013, the third-gen Fit has been offered with a 130-horsepower, 4-cylinder unit.

2012-Present Ford Focus

Starting price: $8,000 and up

IIHS crash test rating: Good

Why buy it: Since its inception in 1998, the Focus has been a star performer for Ford. But for years, Ford's US and European division sold different cars under the "Focus" name — with the European version much better received. For 2012, the third-generation Ford unified the model and finally gave the US Focus customers the European car they'd been waiting for.

Power for Focus comes from a 2.0-liter, 160-horsepower, inline-4 cylinder engine. People looking for higher performance can opt for the critically acclaimed 252 hp Focus ST — though even used examples of the model may be pricey.

2005-Present Honda Civic

Starting price: $8,500 and up

IIHS crash test rating: Good

Why buy it: The Honda Civic is bulletproof. If properly maintained, the car can go for well over 250,000 miles without any issues.  However, at this price point, it shouldn't be hard to come across examples will far fewer than 100,000 miles on the odometer. As one of the most popular cars in the world, spares are easy to come by and repairs are relatively affordable.

Being popular means that there is large aftermarket support for the car, so kids can customize a Civic to their liking for not much money. Also, the sporty and practical Si hatchback from the early 2000s is now available for under $10,000. And since it was only available with a manual gearbox, it teaches a good lesson.

Mexico ME

Hey, guys? What's going on here? What's with your town name? Why is that your name? Who did this to you?

These are the silliest city names in America. These places are actually named these things.

Chicken, Alaska

This town was originally called "Ptarmigan" (the quotations were actually a part of the name), but no one could remember how to spell it, and the townspeople didn't want anyone to make fun of them for that. So, naturally, they changed it to "Chicken."

Why, Arizona

This town gets its name because the two major highways by it used to be at a "Y" intersection. Now, it just sounds like a very normal sentence that people from Arizona (myself, included) regularly ask themselves.

Lorida, Florida

This town is the perfect example of someone being like, "Who cares, name it whatever." It's a city containing several fishing lodges. It was not named by a whimsical elf.

The best wine glasses you can buy

wine glass 4x3

The Insider Pick:

I remember the first time I bought wine glasses. I was 25 years old, had just moved into my own Manhattan studio, and truly believed that this purchase marked my arrival as a full-fledged adult. I selected a set of six wide-bowled glasses at Crate & Barrel for one reason: I thought they were beautiful.

That set served me well. I remember one of them breaking dramatically during a party that first year, but several of them lasted for more than a decade. Into these glasses, I poured red and white wine, as well as the occasional champagne toast. Since then I have learned a great deal more about wine, as well as the importance of using different glasses for different wines. And it’s not just about etiquette. The size, shape, and construction of a wine glass can dramatically alter the tasting experience.

There are dozens of different specialized wine glasses, but most glasses are grouped into one of two categories: red or white wine glasses.

In general, red wine glasses are taller and have a bigger bowl than white wine glasses. There are several reasons for this, but mostly, the wider opening of the glass allows red wines to breathe or to oxidate — and ultimately taste smoother. Red wine glasses can be held by the bowl or the stem. White wines, on the other hand, do better in a glass with a smaller bowl and narrower rim because it helps to preserve the cooler temperature.

How to choose a wine glass

riedel

There are several different design and construction elements to consider when choosing a glass. According to Williams-Sonoma, some of the most important are the size and shape of the bowl, the stem, the rim and whether it is constructed of crystal or glass.

  • The Bowl: A wider bowl increases the surface area of the wine that’s exposed to air and encourages alcohol evaporation. This creates what’s known as the wine’s aroma, which can drastically alter its taste. Wide bowls are best for red wines. Lighter, white wines are served in narrower, taller bowls because it preserves the chill and the delicate bouquet.
  • The Stem: Holding a wine glass by its stem helps to keep the heat of your hand away from the wine, which is important because your hand may affect the wine’s temperature. Stemless wine glasses, also called wine tumblers, are less formal than stemmed glasses and are perfect for everyday use or casual entertaining.
  • The Rim: A tapered shape suspends the wine's aroma at the top of the glass and prevents it from wafting away when the wine is swirled. A glass with a rim that tapers and then flares slightly still effectively holds the wine's aroma, while directing the flow of wine toward the front palate, highlighting rich fruit flavors while tempering acidity.
  • The Material: Crystal is glass that contains lead oxide. Beyond its beautiful sparkle, crystal is a good choice for wine glasses because it's stronger than plain glass and therefore more easily made into more delicate designs. The surface of crystal is also microscopically coarser than glass so wines develop more intense aromas when they're swirled in crystal stemware. If you're looking for dishwasher-safe stemware, glass is a better choice than crystal. Shaped by a skilled glassblower, glass stemware can be every bit as delicate and beautiful as crystal stemware.

Types of red wine glasses

In general, wine experts agree that the best wine glasses are clear and thin. According to Wine Enthusiast, these are the major types of red wine glasses:

  • Standard red wine glass: Mostly used for Cabernet, Merlot, Bordeaux, or similar varietals, this tall glass has a full sized bowl that tapers a little bit at the top.
  • Pinot or Burgundy glass: Not as tall as the Cabernet glass, this one has a wide bowl.
  • Shiraz glass: This is the tallest of all red wine glasses, with a distinct taper towards the top.
  • Port glass: These are short and much smaller than other red wine glasses.

Types of white wine glasses

According to Wine Enthusiast, these are the major types of white wine glasses:

  • Standard white wine glass: Mostly used for Chardonnay, these glasses have a similar shape, but they're smaller than the Cabernet glass.
  • Sauvignon Blanc/Pino Grigio glass: Designed to bring out the acidity in these wines, the glasses are shorter and have a smaller bowl than the Chardonnay glasses.
  • Montrachet/White Burgundy glass: These wine glasses are short with a wide bowl.

The best wine glasses overall

Why you'll love them: The Libbey Signature Kentfield Grande Wine Glasses are affordable, sturdy, backed by a great guarantee, and perfect for all types of wine.

Libbey started out in 1818 as the New England Glass Company. Today, the Ohio-based company produces a wide range of tableware products, but its glassware remains top notch. In 2015, Libbey introduced a new state-of-the-art process for making glassware from the furnace to forming to finishing, which the company claims produces “the most brilliant and strongest soda lime glassware to be produced in the US.”

The attractive, dishwasher-safe Libbey Signature Kentfield glasses feature a laser-cut rim, as well as a pulled stem and a reinforced flat foot for extra stability. The tulip-shaped bowl makes it an ideal choice for both red and white wines, so you can drink whatever you want in these glasses.

You get a set of four glasses for about $20 at Bed Bath & Beyond, which is an excellent deal for such fine glassware. To sweeten the pot, all of Libbey’s glassware is protected by a 25-year lip and foot no-chip guarantee.  Libbey will replace or refund the price of a chipped glass if you return it to the dealer or distributor.

Buyer reviews on Amazon for this glass or for other similar Libbey wine glasses are extremely positive. “Solid stem to bowl fusing and fantastic optics,” wrote on verified purchaser on June 1, 2017. “I find these wine glasses great for many reasons. Top among them: easy to clean," wrote a reviewer in January 2017 about similar Libbey wine glasses.

Across the web, professional reviewers, including those at The Sweethome and The Spruce say that Libbey wine glasses are an extraordinary value and perfect for everyday wine consumption. We highly recommend them as an affordable option for people who want to get into drinking wine from high-class glasses.

Pros: Extraordinary value, ideal for both red and white wine, 25-year no-chip guarantee, easy to clean

Cons: Slightly thicker glass

The best white wine glasses

Why you'll love them: The Riedel Vivant White Wine Glasses are beautiful, high-quality glasses with a splendid low price tag.

Based in Austria, Riedel is a family-run company that was established in 1756. It is still one of the world’s best-known producers of wine glasses. While Riedel offers wine glasses a wide-range of price points, the Riedel’s Vivant Collection, sold exclusively at Target, is an ideal way to introduce yourself to the company's high-quality wares without breaking the bank.

Made of lead-free Tyrol crystal, these thin and attractive 12.5-oz glasses can be used for virtually any occasion. The company says they are dishwasher safe, but many enthusiasts note that they choose to wash them by hand because of their delicate composition. You get four glasses for about $40, which is a very good deal, considering these glasses come from such a well-renowned company.

Buyer reviews on Target are mostly positive, too. “I love good wine glasses ... these aren't the expensive Riedel glasses, but they are a great value for the price,” wrote one reviewer in 2016. “Great quality no flaws. Very clear,” added another reviewer in early 2017.

Three years ago, one reviewer named Karen raved about the glasses: “I was always a skeptic that a glass could make any difference in the taste of wine. Drinking my favorite white wine from one of these glasses made be a 'believer" The enhancement of the taste is unbelievable!!!!” That said several reviewers complain that the glasses are just too thin and subject to frequent breakage. However, most agree that the thinner and finer the wine glass, the better the flavor, so it's a trade off.

Around the web, professional reviewers, including those at The Sweethome, The Wine Spectator, and The Kitchn name the Riedel Vivant and other Riedel glasses as the best wine glasses you can buy. All of these reviewers say the Vivant line offers extraordinary value for quality glasses.

Pros: Affordable, good value, attractive, thin, clear, enhances wine flavor

Cons: Frequent breakage

Buy Riedel Vivant 4 piece White Wine Glass Set from Target for $39.99

The best red wine glasses

Why you'll love them: The Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot Glasses bring out the best flavors in red wine.

Riedel makes our guide once again with its Veritas Cabernet/Merlot Glasses. These elegant crystal glasses will feel good in your hand and bring out the bouquet in your red wine.

Composed of leaded-crystal, these 22-oz. glasses are machine blown and very delicate. Taller and lighter than the glasses in the Vinum collection, these dishwasher safe glasses arrive in an attractive gift box. You get two in a set: one for Cabernet and another for Merlot. These glasses may be more expensive than the others in our guide, but buyers and experts alike say they're well worth the cost.

Buyer reviews on Amazon are extremely positive. “These glasses are a dream. So light and beautiful and sparkly and classy,” wrote one verified purchaser in May 2017.

Another reviewer praised the glasses, saying, “While in Oregon at Bryn Mawr Winery we had the opportunity to taste one of their Pinot Noir wines in a standard wine glass and then in this style wine glass. There was a major difference in the "nose" and the taste. Bought a set for Christmas, used them twice so far. Very pleased. They are very eloquent and work very well, as expected. They are quite thin and delicate, so gentle care in using."

While most reviewers love the feel of the Riedel glasses in their hands, as well as the way the glass makes the wine taste, more than a dozen chimed in with the complaint that the glasses are just too thin and fragile, so they break easily. As we've said before, that's to be expected with fine wine glasses. Thinner glass makes for better flavor, so it's a trade off you have to make for a great wine glass.

Around the web, professional reviewers, including those at The Sweethome and Wine Spectator approve of the glasses' light weight and beauty, as well as the flavor of the wine served in the glasses.

Pros: High-quality crystal, beautiful design, thin, clear

Cons: Sometimes too fragile, expensive

Buy the Riedel Veritas Cabernet/Merlot Glass, Set of 2, on Amazon for $58.65 (originally $69.00)

The best cribs and cradles you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

crib 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • A good crib or cradle can buy you some much needed time to yourself while your baby takes a nap or snoozes the night away. Of all the cribs and cradles we've researched, the DaVinci Kalani is our top pick. This crib is attractive, sturdy, versatile, and inexpensive enough to free up your budget for other baby essentials.

A safe place to sleep is one of your baby’s most fundamental needs, and the crib is the centerpiece of a put-together nursery. You don’t necessarily need a full-size crib to start out, and a cradle can be a nice space-saver. You certainly don’t need to overspend unless you’re hoping for an heirloom quality crib.

Whatever you choose, putting a crib in your house can mark that moment when you realize there’s no going back – your life is about to change in a big way – and it represents a commitment to your baby’s safety. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies have their own sleeping space and a firm sleeping surface. With a crib or a cradle, you get both.

Since cribs are major pieces of furniture, there’s something for every taste – traditional, modern, and in between – and every budget. We tracked down expert opinions on some tried-and-true favorites, and we also combed through parental feedback on popular cribs at major retailers’ websites. Our picks include a sturdy, inexpensive crib for traditional nurseries, a more modern pick, a high-end crib with a uniquely adaptable design, a space-saving cradle, and a travel crib that can go anywhere and set up in a snap. Read on to learn more about each option.

Also, check out our guides to the best car seats, the best diaper bags, the best baby monitorsthe best nursing pillows, and the best baby bouncers.

Although the DaVinci Kalani is the best crib for most parents, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the Babyletto Hudson, the Stokke Sleepi, the BabyBjorn Cradle, and the Guava Family Lotus Travel Crib.

The best crib overall

Why you'll love it: The DaVinci Kalani crib is inexpensive, convertible, traditional, and it will look gorgeous in your nursery.

One of the best features of the popular DaVinci Kalani crib is its convertibility. After your baby’s crib days are over, it can become a toddler bed, daybed, and even a full-size bed. DaVinci throws in the toddler bed rail with the crib, though you’ll have to purchase the full-size bed rails separately.

The Kalani has a traditional look, with gently curved rails and curved embellished feet. It’s part of a larger furniture collection that includes several dresser choices, and it comes in seven finishes. It’s also Greenguard Gold certified to be free of potentially harmful VOCs and chemicals.

But can a crib this cheap be sturdy? By and large, Amazon reviewers say yes. A reviewer with The Baby Bed says the Kalani has stood strong for three years, and she expects it to last for at least a couple more. Baby Bargains notes that it has a more durable metal spring platform instead of MDF or wood. It has four adjustable mattress positions, so the mattress can start out higher when your baby is smaller or stay that way if you’re on the shorter side, making it less of a reach to grab your kiddo. For the most part, owners say the crib is easy to assemble, though a few say instructions could be clearer.

The downsides of the Kalani are fewer than you might expect at this price. As The Nightlight notes, it doesn’t have the heft of an heirloom-quality crib. Some reviewers complain that the pine is too soft to stand up to dings and dents, while the finish scratches easily. Keep in mind, however, that those are common complaints about any budget-friendly crib.

Pros: Inexpensive, converts into three types of beds, part of a larger furniture collection, traditional style, seven finishes, sturdy, four mattress positions

Cons: Pine dents and scratches easily, some say instructions are unclear

Buy the DaVinci Kalani on Amazon for $179

The modern best crib

Why you'll love it: Clean lines with a dash of mid-century inspiration make the Babyletto Hudson a great choice for families who appreciate a more modern design.

Equal parts modern and throwback, the Babyletto Hudson has clean, uncluttered lines and angled legs that have a mid-century vibe. It’s a bit pricier than the DaVinci Kalani, but it still doesn’t veer into sticker-shock territory like many other modern cribs.

It converts to a daybed and a toddler bed, and the toddler bed rail is included. Note that it does not convert into a twin or full-size bed, however. You’ll get to choose from seven finishes, including sleek two-tone options, and there are two matching dressers. Like the Kalani, it’s also Greenguard Gold-certified.

Amazon reviewers love the sleek, hidden-hardware design of the Hudson, saying it looks like designer cribs that are more than double the price. Most also say the assembly was relatively simple and straightforward, with easy-to-follow instructions, and that the crib is quite sturdy. Baby List says the Hudson is a good pick for shorter parents because its lower profile means you won’t need to reach as far down, but it still has four adjustable mattress positions.

Unsurprisingly, The Bump calls out “nicks and scratches … over time” that can plague this pine crib’s frame. Baby List also notes that traditional crib skirts won’t work on the Hudson well due to metal support brackets, though Babyletto makes its own crib skirts that will work.

Pros: Minimalist design, converts into toddler bed and daybed, seven finishes, easy to assemble, easy for shorter parents to access, four mattress positions

Cons: Doesn’t convert into full-size bed, pine dents and scratches easily, won’t accommodate most crib skirts

Buy the Babyletto Hudson on Amazon for $379

The best high-end crib

Why you'll love it: If you’re willing to spend big on a unique crib that will last a lifetime, the Stokke Sleepi should be on your radar.

The Stokke Sleepi is an eye-catcher – It has a graceful oval shape that still looks thoroughly modern and minimalist. Unlike most cribs, it can start out as a bassinet, grow to a full-size crib, then a toddler bed, and then a “junior bed” for kids up to 10. Not enough? It can even become two chairs. There are three finishes, including white, gray and natural wood. It also coordinates with the Stokke Care changing table, which can be converted to a set of shelves and a desk as your baby grows.

If you’re short on space, the Stokke is more narrow than your average crib, and it has lockable wheels on the bottom. As Baby Bargains notes, that makes it far easier to move around where it’s needed, and it will fit through doorways, too. The Stokke is also made from cultivated, sustainably harvested beech, which is harder than pine and more likely to stand up over time without the dents and scratches that plague cheaper pine cribs like the DaVinci Kalani and Babyletto Hudson. The mattress can be adjusted to four heights, too.

The Stokke’s biggest con is obvious – It’s expensive. And as Baby List notes, you can only get your mattress and sheets directly from Stokke because of the non-standard mattress shape. Baby Bargains also warns that there have been “quality control issues” such as improperly aligned screw holes and malfunctioning casters that are especially disappointing for the price.

Pros: Beautiful design, converts into a toddler or junior bed, sustainable beech wood

Cons: Expensive

Buy the Stokke Sleepi on Amazon for $999
