5 most talked-about moments from this week's 'Game of Thrones'

jon snow dragon hbo

Warning: Spoilers ahead for HBO's "Game of Thrones" season seven, episode five, titled "Eastwatch."

This episode was a game changer for Jon Snow on "Game of Thrones."

Intrigue was the order of the day as Daenerys showed no mercy for those who wouldn't bend the knee to her. Jon Snow received news from the North, and decided to venture beyond the Wall with his ragtag crew in order to capture a wight. Meanwhile, Littlefinger's plan to cause mistrust between Arya and Sansa progressed, and Sam Tarly missed out on a huge breakthrough about Jon's parents — but viewers paid a whole lot of attention. Oh and by the way, Gendry is back!

But which moments had fans talking the most?

Social-media monitoring platform Brandwatch found more than 28,400 "Thrones"-related mentions on Twitter while Sunday's episode aired on HBO and identified the scenes when conversation peaked.

Here are the five most talked-about moments from the latest "Game of Thrones" episode:

5. Fans had a lot to say as the episode began and we discovered that Jaime was still alive.

9:03 p.m. ET – around 640 mentions

In a dramatic play on our emotions, Jaime refused to back down at the end of the last episode's battle and charged at Dany and Drogon. If it weren't for Bronn risking his life, Jaime would be toast. But the episode ended in a cliffhanger as Jaime sunk to the bottom of the river.

We learned in the opening moments of "Eastwatch" that he had survived and fans had some feels about the moment.

4. Viewers cheered the first meeting between Jon and a dragon. Drogon looked fierce at first, but seemed to sense that Jon is really a Targaryen.

9:16 p.m. ET – Around 690 mentions

Fans have been anticipating Jon Snow's first meeting with a dragon since last week's preview, and perhaps the entire run of the series. This is especially poignant now that the show has become very transparent about Jon's Targaryen bloodline.

3. Fans got a kick out of the motley crew Jon Snow brought together to hunt down a wight in order to convince Dany and Cersei of the danger that lies beyond the Wall.

9:59 p.m. ET  around 750 mentions for both moments

In a plan hatched by Tyrion, Jon Snow assembles a fellowship of men to go beyond the Wall and capture a wight, so that he can convince Daenerys and Cersei to join forces to defeat the Night King and his army.

Jon's ragtag team includes a group of men who all have reasons to not trust each other: Jorah Mormont, Tormund, Gendry, Sandor "The Hound" Clegane, Thoros of Myr, and Beric Dondarrion.

The original Tesla Model S rival has returned, and it's as stunning as ever

Karma Revero 38

  • The Fisker Karma was the original Model S rival.
  • But Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2013 leaving Tesla the victor of the electric car space.;
  • Now, the car is making a comeback, but this time it is being called the Karma Revero.

Want to go fast and look cool in an electric car? Buy a Tesla Model S. Discussion over.

After all, the Model S has all the gadgets, performance, and technocratic street cred you'll ever need.

But things were very different at the end of the last decade. In 2010, Tesla wasn't yet an automotive juggernaut with a market cap rivaling that of General Motors. Instead, it was still an upstart carmaker with the guy from PayPal and a far-from-mainstream electric sports car as its only product.

And then came the Model S, a four-door sedan with a surprising amount performance in a package relatable to most premium car buyers. But it wasn't immediately crowned king of the hill because there was a rival lurking in the wings.

The Fisker Karma. The stunningly beautiful Karma sedan was the brainchild of famed car designer Henrik Fisker. Unlike the all-electric Model S, the Karma was an electric car with a gasoline generator on board.

Both cars vied for the hearts and wallets of the eco-friendly elite. And for a while, Fisker held its own. Leonardo DiCaprio had a Karma. In fact, the Oscar winner wasn't just the company's brand ambassador; he was an investor. "Fast and Furious" star Tyrese owned one as well. As did Justin Bieber, whose car was wrapped in chrome.

Yet Hurricane Sandy, a parking lot with several hundred flooded-out Karmas, and a defunct battery supplier teamed up to doom the budding car company. By November 2013, Fisker Automotive was bankrupt, leaving the increasingly capable Model S as the victor. Now the Karma is back.

In 2014, Wanxiang America, the Illinois-based subsidiary of China's Wanxiang Group, purchased the intellectual property and assets of the defunct Fisker Automotive for $150 million. Soon afterward, Karma Automotive was created. In 2017, the company began customer deliveries of its first model — the resurrected sedan formerly known as the Fisker Karma.

Recently, Business Insider spent a day with a 2018 Karma Revero test car clad in an eye-catching Corona Del Sol paint job. The 2018 Revero starts at $130,000 and tops out at around $140,000.

Here's everyone who has died this season on 'Game of Thrones,' and how they bit the dust

Sand Game of Thrones the queen's justiceWarning: Spoilers for "Game of Thrones" season seven. If you aren't caught up with the series, read at your own risk.

Season seven of "Game of Thrones" has already proven to be one of the most brutal yet. There's already been some major battles and major deaths, including one that made dying look cool.

For now, most of the dead folks on this list died at the hands of Cersei or Drogon, but we're worried that the army of the dead will be responsible for the next batch of deaths, coming to your TV very soon.

So here is your guide to who died on "Game of Thrones" so far this season:

SEE ALSO: The 8 biggest questions we have after this week's 'Game of Thrones'

Obara Sand

Time of death: Episode two, "Stormborn."

Cause of death: In his attack on Yara's fleet, Euron Greyjoy stabs the daughter of Oberyn Martell in the gut with a spear. By the end of the battle, her body is hanging from the ship, so she's definitely dead.

Nymeria Sand

Time of death: Episode two, "Stormborn."

Cause of death: In Euron's attack, he strangles Nymeria, who is a daughter of Oberyn (and not Arya Stark's direwolf). At the end of the battle, her body is hanging from the ship, so she's also definitely dead.

Tyene Sand

Time of death: Episode three, "The Queen's Justice" (kind of).

Cause of death: Cersei locks Ellaria up in a dungeon with her daughter, Tyene, who she poisons the same way Ellaria poisoned Myrcella: with a kiss and a poison called "The Long Farewell." So Ellaria has to watch her own daughter die a brutal death, and there's nothing she can do about it.

corinne and demario bachelor in paradise

The much-anticipated fourth season of "Bachelor in Paradise" is set to premiere on Monday, after a misconduct scandal threatened to not only cancel the show, but forever change ABC's long-running hit "Bachelor" franchise going forward.

Even though an investigation into the incident by show producer Warner Bros. concluded that that there was no misconduct, there continues to be more to the story.

The alleged "sexual misconduct" incident occurred in early June while taping in Mexico. It temporarily shut down production, but has since resumed after Warner Bros. wrapped its investigation.

But both "Bachelor in Paradise" contestants who are at the center of the scandal, DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios, have claimed that they're victims and have sought legal counsel. They've since announced their continuing participation with the show.

How did we get here? and what's next? Ahead of Monday's premiere, catch yourself up on all the twists and turns.

Here's a rundown of all the events so far:

SEE ALSO: 'Bachelor in Paradise' has been suspended over alleged misconduct

SEE ALSO:

Sunday, June 4: Day of the alleged sexual assault.

With three seasons under its belt, taping on its fourth season started on this day in Mexico. Taping was slated to last three weeks. It also happened to be the day when the reported incident occurred.

Sources told news outlets that a sexual encounter between Jackson ("The Bachelorette" season 13) and Olympios ("The Bachelor" season 21) occurred when she was too drunk to give proper consent and the show's cameras were rolling.

TMZ published a graphic description of the alleged sexual encounter between the contestants in a hot tub.

Tuesday, June 6: An investigation was underway, production halted, and the contestants were placed on lockdown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production continued on the show Monday. But at some point between Sunday and Tuesday, a producer filed a complaint of potential sexual misconduct. It isn't clear whether that producer was present while the incident was being taped.

On the condition of anonymity, a contestant told People that taping was being suspended and the cast members were placed on lockdown Tuesday, meaning they were sent to separate rooms, couldn't contact one another, and were under constant supervision by production.

"We were told to stay in a certain part of the [resort] while they figured out what the hell had happened,” the contestant said “We knew something bad had happened; there was a dark energy that came around the house. You have to understand that we weren’t even there a week. The game hadn’t even really begun yet."

THR reported that Jackson and Olympios had been questioned ahead of the other contestants after the complaint was filed and were sent home.

Thursday, June 8: The cast members were informed of the investigation and told that the season will probably be canceled.

The anonymous cast member told People that the producers officially informed the contestants that an investigation was underway and it didn't look like they show would be returning this season.

"One of them was crying. She told us that it was over and we'd all be going home,"the contestant said of a meeting with a producer held after the lockdown.

"[The producer] was like, 'I don't think that's realistic,'" the cast member continued of the likelihood that production would resume. "She said that there was an investigation going on, and that could take days, weeks, or even months. And by that time, we all have lives and jobs and things to go back to, so it just wasn't going to work out. They told us that we'd be considered for future seasons and opportunities in the franchise, but that this adventure was probably over."

Over the next few days, the cast and crew were questioned individually, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

I'm 24 and I just tried Popeyes for the first time — here's the verdict

Popeye's Meal 2

When I treat myself to fast food, 99% of the time it's a burger — which is why I often neglect chains that serve things like fried chicken.

However, after a recent newsroom debate that made me realize just how many people have an overwhelming passion for for Popeyes' fried chicken, I decided to give the chain a try.

Keep scrolling to read about my first experience at the restaurant.

I visited the Popeyes on 14th Street in New York City since it's just a short walk from my office.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Today, it has over 2,600 locations worldwide. Its distinctive red and yellow color scheme is reminiscent of McDonald's.

I knew I wanted fried chicken (obviously), but I had a hard time choosing between the chain's many signature sides. I had heard people rave about them, so I didn't want to pick the wrong one.

There are 11 sides, like coleslaw, biscuits, mac and cheese, and corn on the cob. Popeyes also has chicken tenders, sandwiches and wraps, and seafood, like popcorn shrimp and Cajun fish.

In the end, I went with the red beans and rice. I'm not a huge fan of mashed potatoes, and I didn't want to choose something that I could just get anywhere, like French fries or onion rings.

These 2 cases will keep any MacBook protected for under $25

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

TomTocMacBooks, regardless of their size, type, or vintage, are tough machines meant to last for many years.

That said, they don't stand much of a chance against water damage or a fall onto pavement.

To prevent such a fate, it's important to keep your MacBook in a case, which will add minimal bulk and weight, but save you money and frustration in the long run.

The two biggest case styles are hardshell cases, which snap onto your laptop like a phone case, and sleeves, which wrap around your entire laptop and have extra storage space for accessories.

You can find our pick for both styles of case below:

SEE ALSO: 5 tech accessories under $50 that every MacBook owner should have

SEE ALSO: These are some of our favorite MacBook stickers for your laptop

The best hardshell MacBook case

Besides being available for every MacBook released in the past five years, Mosiso's hardshell cases stand out from the competition for their included keyboard protector for some models. This keeps liquid from seeping between your keys in case of an accidental spill or dust from getting under them.

Each case is made from polycarbonate plastic and comes in a variety of colors with cutouts for the ports. Like many other hardshell cases, these come in two pieces: one snaps onto the bottom of your MacBook and a second snaps onto the top.

If you mostly carry your MacBook around in a backpack, or are looking for the lightest way to protect it from scratches, drop damage, and liquid, this is a good choice.

Mosiso Plastic Hard Case [12" MacBook], $10.99, available at Amazon

"""" [11" MacBook Air], $12.99

"""" [13" MacBook Air], $13.99

"""" [13" MacBook Pro], $13.99

"""" [Old 15" MacBook Pro], $16.99

"""" [15" MacBook Pro], $13.99

The best MacBook sleeve

Unlike hardshell cases, which attach directly to your MacBook, sleeves surround it entirely. TomToc's sleeve has multiple layers of protection meant to distribute shock damage from drops and a front pocket to hold accessories. You could conceivably use this case instead of a backpack when walking across campus or to and from a coffee shop.

Tomtoc Protective Laptop Sleeve [12" MacBook], $19.99, available at Amazon

"""" [13" MacBook Air], $18.99, available at Amazon

"""" [13" MacBook Pro], $22.99, available at Amazon

MORGAN STANLEY: Don't let these 6 interview questions trip you up

$
0
0

Carla Harris Morgan StanleyWhat are interviewers really looking for when they ask questions like "what are your strengths and weaknesses?" Carla Harris, vice chairwoman at Morgan Stanley, reveals the subtext.

If you think the most common interview questions are often the most difficult to answer, then you’re not alone. More people trip up on things like “tell us about yourself” and “what is your biggest weakness?” than questions about their skills.

That’s because the most common interview questions all have a subtext, explains Carla Harris, vice chairwoman at Morgan Stanley. “What an interviewer is really trying to find out by asking common questions,  is what kind of personality you have;  are you a leader or a good pair of hands and will you fit in? They already know you have the qualifications because they’ve seen your resume.”

Harris has coached hundreds of people on their careers during her 30 years at Morgan Stanley and is the author of Expect to Win and Strategize To Win. We asked her to demystify some of the most common interview questions — here’s what she said:

SEE ALSO: Millennials are driving a $9 trillion change in investing

Tell Me About Yourself

“This is the first question you’re likely to get in an interview and it’s the one that people most often struggle with,” says Harris. “This isn’t an invitation to recite your life story or go through your resume. Instead, the interviewer is trying to find out if you’re a good fit for the job, so talk about the experience that’s relevant to the job. This question is an opportunity to connect the dots on your resume. It’s important that you understand the key success factors for the job that you are interviewing for so that you tell your story using those descriptors.”

Tip:“Try to hit the qualities in the job description. The interviewer wants information that is pertinent to the job you’re interviewing for.”

Describe yourself in three words

“This is a question designed to see if you’ve paid attention to the job specs and if you have qualities that best match the role,” Harris explains. “For example, if you’re going for an internship on Wall Street, you might say “analytical, detail-oriented, quantitative.” If it’s a sales job, then maybe “commercial, competitive, connector” – that’s assuming of course that these words do really describe you!”

Tip:“Make sure you have examples to back up each word, in case the interviewer asks you to elaborate. And read up on the company’s core values.”

What’s your biggest weakness?

“This question trips a lot of people up – but it comes up frequently in interviews, so it’s one well worth prepping for,” notes Harris. “Pick a weakness that’s not a key competency for the job and most importantly show self-awareness by explaining what you’ve done or are doing or continue to deal with to overcome this weakness.”

Tip:“Don’t say you’re a perfectionist. It’s so clichéd and won’t come across as genuine. You may want to offer something that would be helpful in your new role, like, I am working on public speaking skills.”

This is Russia's answer to the F-15E Strike Eagle

Russian Sukhoi Su-30SM

Russia announced it's newest variant of the Sukhoi Su-30SM — the Su30SM1 — last month, which reportedly has enhanced weapons and electrical systems.

Nevertheless, the Su-30SM1 has yet to be mass produced, and there's reportedly only one of them at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant where they're being made, according to The National Interest. Therefore Russia's most upgraded Su-30 on the market is still the Su-30SM.

The Su-30SM is a versatile or multirole fighter, able to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground attacks, and is often considered to be the F-15E Strike Eagle's counterpart.

Here's how the Su-30SM compares overall to the F-15E.

SEE ALSO: 11 photos of the Su-25, Russia's answer to the legendary A-10 Warthog

The Su-30SM was developed by IRKUT, the conglomerate that owns Sukhoi, and made it's first flight in 2012.

The F-15E Strike Eagle was developed by McDonnell Douglas, now Boeing, and made it's first flight in 1986.

Sources: Airforce-Technology and Airforce-Technology.

It's a derivative of the Su-30MKI, which Sukhoi made for India, and is the first Su-30 to have thrust vector control — which makes the jet more agile and able to turn faster. The original Su-30 design is also based off the Su-27 Flanker.

The F-15E is the fifth and latest version of the F-15A, which made its first flight in July 1972.

Source: Sukhoi and US Air Force.

The fighter also carries two crew members, just like the US' F-15E and F/A-18F Super Hornet, allowing it to better surveil a battlefield and find targets.

If you’re looking for the perfect mini fridge and you have enough space, the Danby 4.4 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge offers advanced features and enough space to hold all the perishables you could want for an affordable price.

Back to school is one of the most popular times to purchase a mini fridge, because many students want a refrigerator in their dorm rooms. But these small refrigerators also work well for offices, rec rooms, garages, and garages that have been turned into man caves.

Mini fridges aren’t as energy efficient as standard-sized refrigerators, and some don’t hold a consistent enough temperature to preserve food safely for long periods. However, for keeping beverages and quickly consumed items cold, it works just fine. Your student will greatly appreciate having the ability to keep sodas and snacks (and nothing else) cold for late night studying with a dorm room fridge.

Primary considerations for mini fridges

Mini fridges are available in many different configurations and sizes, as eBay discusses, so you’ll have plenty of choices. The key is finding the right size and features that’ll make the unit perfect for your student’s dorm room while fitting in your budget.

  • Budget: As a general rule, a larger mini fridge will cost more than a smaller mini fridge. If you want stainless steel or a glass door, you’ll pay more for these stylistic options.
  • Capacity: A mini fridge’s capacity is listed in cubic feet. This gives you an idea of the size and number of items you can place inside, although shelves and freezer space take up some of this capacity. Some manufacturers also list capacity for a mini fridge as the number of 12-ounce cans the unit can hold. From an energy efficiency standpoint, larger capacity mini fridges provide better results, according to Designs Authority.
  • Freezer compartment: Most dorm room fridges contain at least a small freezer compartment. However, it’s not accessible through a separate door like it is with a full-size refrigerator. This causes the freezer to not be as efficient as what you’ll find in a standard refrigerator. Many freezers in mini fridges are too small to even hold a large frozen pizza, for example.
  • Size: In a cramped dorm room, the physical size of the refrigerator matters. Look through the specifications for a mini fridge to ensure that it’ll fit in the space you have available, as many different sizes are offered, including tall and thin, cube-shaped, and everything in between, according to Drink Stuff.

Features to look for in mini fridges

Your mini fridge isn’t going to have a host of fancy features, like the new full-size refrigerators that can send a grocery list to your smartphone or connect to your home’s Wi-Fi. The key features in a mini fridge are quite a bit more low-tech, but they’re still important.

  • Compressed power: A mini fridge with a compressed power unit doesn’t need airflow to move across coils to help it dissipate heat. Instead, a sealed compressor powers the refrigerator. As the DIY Experts Network says, having a compressed power source allows you to tuck the mini fridge into a corner of a small dorm room without worrying about needing air movement.
  • Reversible door: Some mini fridges include reversible door hinges, meaning you can have the door open to the left or right, depending on what your dorm room needs. Some mini fridges include a locking door, which Consumer Reports says may be important in a dorm room where a lot of people come and go.
  • Shelving: Consumer Search shows that having glass shelves in a dorm room fridge is preferable to wire shelves, as glass shelves provide more stability and protect against spills. Adjustable shelves are important, too.

The best mini fridge overall

Why you'll love it: The Danby 4.4 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge is large enough to meet the needs of three or four students and it has excellent features for a nice price point, too.

You’ll appreciate the flexibility of the Danby 4.4 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge. This versatile mini fridge is at the larger end of what you’ll want in a dorm room refrigerator, but it has plenty of interior space at 4.4 cubic feet and several nice features. If you’re looking for more than a simple beverage refrigerator for the dorm room, this is a nice choice.

The Danby mini fridge measures 20.7 inches wide and 20.9 inches deep. At 32.7 inches in height, this unit may not fit well in a small dorm room. It does offer a tiny freezer unit of 0.5 cubic feet, which actually is an above average size freezer in a dorm fridge. We really like the fact that you can reverse the direction of the door, which allows you to place the refrigerator in any location in the room. It has a beverage dispensing rack, too.

The Consumer Search review says the Darby 4.4 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge offers a good price point with decent energy consumption ratings. The Sweethome liked how Danby’s designers made the best use of the space inside the refrigerator with adjustable shelving.

One reviewer on the Danby site liked the way the company backs up its products with customer service and a good warranty. A reviewer at Best Buy said the Danby unit runs extremely quietly, which is great for a dorm room where studying is occurring (which should be all of them, of course). A couple of Best Buy customer reviewers said they experienced problems with the freezer maintaining a cold enough temperature, though.

Pros: Large capacity for a three- or four-person dorm room, good price point, plenty of advanced features for a dorm fridge, beverage dispensing racks built-in, good shelving system that’s adjustable, quiet operation

Cons: Freezer system may struggle to hold a consistent temperature, might be too large for some dorm rooms

Buy the Danby 4.4 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge on Amazon for $172.17 (originally $249.00)

The best 2.6 cubic foot mini fridge

Why you'll love it:  If size is at a premium in your dorm room, you’ll love the tiny Insignia 2.6 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge

If your college student is going to be cooking for himself or herself, buying a dorm refrigerator that’s too small is just going to encourage more pizza orders. The students won’t have enough storage for the ingredients they need to cook. But if your student is on a cafeteria meal plan, a small fridge in the dorm room for some beverages and midnight snacks is a perfect option. They may still order a lot of pizza, but at least they won’t be able to blame it on the fridge.

For a small refrigerator that’ll fit well in a tiny dorm room, our favorite is the Insignia 2.6 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge. It’s a short, almost cube-shaped model that offers measurements of just 27.6 inches in height, 19.1 inches in width, and 17.7 inches in depth, allowing you to put it in almost any area of your room.

It offers a can storage rack and adjustable shelving, which are features often not found in such a small refrigerator. It also has a thermostat control, which is a nice feature in such a low priced dorm room fridge. And the door hinges are reversible, allowing you to adjust the door to make it fit in exactly the spot you want, which is a key feature in a small dorm room.

A reviewer at the Insignia site liked the fact that this mini refrigerator included a tiny freezer area, something that’s not always found in such a small unit. Some buyers at Best Buy said the Insignia unit ran noisy, which is disappointing for a unit aimed at students in a dorm room. Another Best Buy reviewer loved the size of this refrigerator for holding beverages, and several Best Buy reviewers appreciated the bargain price they received for this Insignia unit.

Pros: Small refrigerator fits great in a small dorm room, just the right size for storing snacks and beverages, reversible door hinges, thermostat control ensures stable temperature, small freezer included

Cons: May be too noisy for some students’ liking, too small for storing food for students who cook for themselves

The best 1.6 cubic foot mini fridge

Why you'll love it: The Midea 1.6 Cubic Foot Compact Refrigerator will keep a small amount of food and drinks cold.

If you want to have milk, drinks, and other perishables in your dorm room, you'll need a mini fridge. If our first two picks are still too big for your dorm, the Midea Compact Refrigerator will be just the right size, measuring 17.7 x 18.6 x 19.4 inches.

The Midea fridge is smaller than the others in our guide, but if you really don't expect to have too much food in your dorm and saving space is key, this fridge will do the trick. It has one shelf that divides the fridge in two and more storage in the door that can hold a 1 Liter soda bottle and then some. It also has a tiny freezer for ice cubes or other small frozen items.

Midea is known for its great mini fridges, and reviews on Amazon are highly positive. The Sweethome also chose it as its top small mini fridge pick.

It's also very affordable at around $100 on Amazon. The stainless steel version is on sale for $86.36, which is a great price. The fridge also has a one-year warranty.

Pros: Good size, keeps cold, reliable fridge

Cons: Pricey

United States

The US is about to experience a solar eclipse.

Everywhere in the US on August 21 — including Hawaii and Alaska — will be able to see at least a partial eclipse. People living along a certain streak of the US that's 70 miles wide will be able to see a total solar eclipse, or the moment when the moon crosses in between the Earth and the sun, completely blocking out its light.

For anyone hoping to see the eclipse, the appearance will vary based on where you are in relation to the eclipse's path. To help determine what that view will look like ahead of time, a team from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory built a simulation that maps out what the eclipse looks like during the window it's over the US.

A word of warning: if you do plan to catch the solar eclipse on August 21, don't look directly at the sun. Instead, there are solar filters you can use that let you see the eclipse in a way that will keep your eyes from getting damaged.

Here's what the eclipse will look like in some of the major cities across the US.

DON'T MISS: NASA has a brilliant plan to make the total solar eclipse last nearly 3 times as long

San Francisco will get this view of the eclipse around 10:11 a.m. Pacific time.

Residents of Los Angeles will get to see a partial eclipse at 10:18 a.m. Pacific time.

Phoenix, Arizona will get to see a partial eclipse around 11:24 a.m. Mountain time.

Inside a human brain bank, where frozen tubs preserve slices of spongy tissue

brain bank

In plastic jars brimming with formaldehyde sit dozens of brains — each belonging to former teachers, doctors, accountants, plumbers — which are now bathing in preservation fluid for the sake of scientific research.

There are 82 brain banks in North America alone. This one lives in Bronx, New York, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

The bank opened in 1982 to better understand Alzheimer's patients. In 1990 it began looking at patterns of schizophrenia, too. And today, it keeps dozens of specimens sliced into thousands of pieces in an attempt to understand a raft of neurological disorders.

Here's what it's like inside the brain bank.

SEE ALSO: Journalists drink too much, are bad at managing emotions, and operate at a lower level than average, according to a new study

Dr. Vahram Haroutunian has been the brain bank's director since the very beginning. He oversees the storage, preservation, and distribution of tissue to other banks for study.

In most cases, the bank stores more than a person's brain. It also collects cerebrospinal fluid, muscle tissue, and DNA.

Each brain gets tagged according to its particular donor and the neuropathology. Some arrive whole from families, while some get shipped from other labs.

The 7 biggest questions we have after this week's 'Game of Thrones'

Jon snow and the dream teamWarning: Spoilers for "Game of Thrones" season seven episode five, "Eastwatch." If you aren't caught up on the series, read at your own risk.

This week's episode of "Game of Thrones" was quite peaceful, despite Daenerys starting the episode burning two men alive via Drogon.

This week had a few reunions that set up new, unconventional allies — and some old ones who came together again. Every character is like a piece on a chess board, and they're just getting closer and closer to the endgame.

It was quite a relief to have a little break from the action, but that just means that next week will be full of it. And we have some questions before we get there.

Here are all the questions we have after this week's episode of "Game of Thrones":

What's going to happen with Cersei's pregnancy?

Cersei reveals that she's pregnant with Jaime's child. She could be lying, but judging by her brief scenes with Qyburn, it looks like she is — and that she's refusing moon tea, which would kill the baby.

But Maggy the Frog's prophecy has proven accurate over time: she had three children, and all of them are dead. Will this child live? Probably not, and it could be the death of her. This sense of hope — that she and Jaime can live a happy life with a child together — could lose her the war, and her life.

We'll ask this every week: but is Jaime actually turning on Cersei any time soon?

Bronn organizes a secret (and surprise) meeting with Tyrion in King's Landing. Tyrion convinces Jaime to ask Cersei to take the army of the dead threat seriously. Because it's not a threat: it's inevitable. And if everyone who is living is fighting each to her, they'll all be dead very soon. That means this fight for the Iron Throne will have been for nothing.

What is Littlefinger doing, and will Arya slit his throat? (Please?)

This week, Arya stalks Littlefinger in Winterfell. Littlefinger is clearly trying to create tension between Arya and Sansa, and unfortunately knows that Arya is onto him. But in her training with the Faceless Men, Arya became an expert in knowing when people are lying, so we're hoping that she uses this skill (and her other skill of wearing other people's faces) to end Littlefinger's trip up the chaos ladder once and for all.

The best Bluetooth speakers you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

speaker 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • Bluetooth speakers come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ is our top pick because it has great sound, it's portable, and it syncs up to other speakers seamlessly.

A great listening experience shouldn’t be limited to one spot in your home, and while the days of carrying around a boom box on your shoulder are by and large over, you can still get a great on-the-go music playing device for you and your friends in the form of a Bluetooth speaker.

Whether you’re getting a speaker for your day at the park or just to use around the house, there’s almost certainly a great Bluetooth speaker for you. But there are a number of things to consider before you buy.

  • Size matters: You’ll want to think about how big you want the speaker to be. Now, speaking very generally, larger speakers will be louder, and while you can often get quite a racket out of a smaller speaker, for larger parties and gatherings, a larger speaker may be a little more appropriate. Of course, size also affects portability. If you’re looking for something you can slip in your bag and not feel its weight too often, then a smaller speaker may be a better choice for you.
  • Battery life: You’ll obviously want a longer battery life if you’re looking for a speaker that can last all day, but sometimes a speaker with a shorter battery lifespan will do the job — especially if you plan on being able to charge the speaker up often or even while in use.
  • Durability and water resistance: Durability is another important factor if you plan on carrying the speaker around a lot. Not only will your speaker last longer if it's more durable, but it might be a little more versatile, too. For example, you probably won’t want to take a non-waterproof speaker to the pool or the beach.
  • Sound quality: Some may not care too much about how the speaker sounds, but others will want to ensure that they’re getting the best-sounding speaker for their money.

We have a pick for everyone in our buying guide whether you're an audiophile who's ready to spend the big bucks, a college kid on a budget, or someone whose needs fall in between the two ends of the spectrum. Read on to learn all about our top picks.

Although the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ is our top pick, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the UE Boom 2, the B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen Beoplay P2, the DOSS Touch Wireless Bluetooth V4.0 Portable Speaker, and the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Wireless.

The best Bluetooth speaker overall

Why you'll love it: The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ looks great, it's easy-to-use, it offers 16 hours of battery, and it sounds good, too.

There are dozens of Bluetooth speakers out there, but the best speaker you can buy is the Bose SoundLink Revolve+. There are a number of things that make this speaker such a nice option for most people, from its great sound to its nice design.

Let’s start with the design of the speaker, which is really quite good. It’s reminiscent of new smart speakers like the Amazon Echo or Google Home, so it’ll look right at home in any tech-savvy person’s house. On top of that, it offers extremely easy-to-use controls, with six buttons located on the top of the speaker for things like volume control and Bluetooth control. Bose also added a handle to make it easy to bring the speaker with you from room to room.

We tested it out and we were impressed by the SoundLink Revolve+'s great sound quality and how easy it is to move from room to room. It blended right in with our decor, too.

The speaker even has some smart features, including Wireless Bluetooth pairing with voice prompts, the ability to take calls, and access to Siri or Google Now. If you buy two speakers, you can sync them up together for party mode, too.

The speaker will give you 16 hours of play time, so it should get you through the day very easily — especially if you’re good at keeping devices charged up. The 16-hour lifespan makes it good for holiday parties and when you’re at the beach. You won’t have to worry too much about the speaker getting damaged, either, thanks to its water-resistant design. The speaker can handle splashes and other interactions with water, though we wouldn't recommend actually taking it in the water with you.

So what about audio quality? Generally, it’s good enough for most people's needs. As any audiophile will tell you, don’t expect any Bluetooth speaker to beat a good wired speaker. Still, it does offer generally louder volume than other wireless speakers and is able to offer deep and clean bass easily without distorting.

Other reviewers largely agree that this is a great speaker, too. CNET and WhatHiFi both gave it 4/5 stars. That’s not to say, of course, that it doesn’t have its downsides. The main downside is the fact that it’s a little pricey, coming in at $300.

Pros: Good sound, nice design, easy to use, long battery life

Cons: Expensive

Buy the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ on Amazon for $299

The best waterproof Bluetooth speaker

Why you'll love it: The UE Boom 2 sounds good and is well-designed, but perhaps the coolest thing about it is that it has an IPX7 water resistance rating.

UE, or Ultimate Ears, has been a dominant player in the Bluetooth speakers game for some time now, and for good reason. The company has long offered great-sounding speakers at a very reasonable price. The UE Boom 2 is no exception to that rule.

Ultimate Ears is all about fun and colorful designs, so its speaker come in lots of fun colors and styles. This particular speaker is available in seven color combinations on Amazon. The brightly colored UE Boom 2 stands out in a market that's crowded with boring black, white, and gray speakers.

It's easy to use, thanks to the two huge buttons on the top for volume control. The speaker is also designed to be completely and totally water resistant, with a rating of IPX7, which means you can submerge the speaker up to 1 meter for as long as 30 minutes. While we don’t really know why you would want to take it in the water with you, the point is, if you happen to drop it in the pool or there’s an unusually large wave that makes it to your camp, the speaker should be fine.

Another neat feature here is that you can actually use multiple UE Boom 2 speakers at once, as long as you download and use the companion app. So if you’re hosting a party, you can have two or more speakers up in different parts of the room to ensure the music is loud all over the place — not just in one spot.

Battery life isn’t bad, either, coming in at 15 hours. While that’s slightly less than the Bose speaker, it should still be plenty to last you through the day.

When it comes to sound, there’s plenty of offer. The speaker offers plenty of bass, and in comparison to the original UE Boom, it’s much fuller, which is a good thing. There’s also good response in the mid-range and the high-end, so vocals and guitars should cut through the mix quite well.

Expert reviewers love this speaker, too. CNET gave the UE Boom 2 a 4/5 rating, while TechRadar stepped things up a notch to a whopping 5/5. The only downside? The speaker is a little pricey, though not as pricey as the Bose.

Pros: Full waterproof, good sound, easy-to-use, decent battery life

Cons: A little pricey

Buy the UE Boom 2 on Amazon for $138.07 and up (price varies based on color — originally $199.99)

The best ultra portable Bluetooth speaker

Why you'll love it: The B&O Beoplay P2 doesn’t just sound good and feature a slick design, it’s ultra-portable, too.

The Bose and UE speakers are really nice, but they probably won’t fit into your bag all that easily. Thankfully, there are plenty of speakers out there that will, like the B&O Beoplay P2.

Now, generally speaking, smaller Bluetooth speakers can be a little hit and miss, but the BeoPlay P2 is a hit. That’s largely thanks to its sleek and stylish design, coupled with hidden and intuitive controls. For example, you can double tap the speaker grill to play and pause your music, or you can program the speaker through the accompanying app to activate your digital assistant of choice, whether it be Google Assistant or Siri. That happens through your phone because the speaker doesn’t have those assistants built-in.

So how does the speaker sound? You can't expect studio-quality sound, but it’s not bad. The speaker features mono audio and an impressive bass response for a speaker of its size. The high-end isn’t as responsive, though it’s still not bad.

So what do reviewers think? Well, TechRadar gave the speaker 4.5/5 stars, while PCMag gave it 4/5.

Pros: Great sound, very portable, intuitive touch-controls

Cons: A little pricey for its size, could use more high-end

Buy the B&O Beoplay P2 on Amazon for $169
