Americans are passionate about their grocery stores.

But some of the most popular chains in the nation only exist in particular regions, so it's likely you've never even heard of some of them.

The mobile search-and-discovery app Foursquare put together a list of the most-visited grocery stores in each state across the US, based on its own visit data.

Check out the full list below.

16 of the most valuable things you can buy as a college student

Early adulthood is a stage in life where being able to make smart financial decisions takes on a heightened importance.

The necessity of sticking to a budget means that the ability to determine when it makes sense to spend and when it makes sense to save is a pretty invaluable one.

As a college student myself, I can relate to the sort of lifestyle that supports an industry of instant-noodle foods bought in bulk. And so I’m pretty strict with my spending, except for the times when I really need something that might require more of an investment than Easy Mac, like a good external hard drive or a productivity app that will maximize my current educational investment.

Being an adult with responsibilities without the adult nest egg means that I have the time to find the best deal, and the shoestring budget to really incentivize the search.

The happy news for all of us is that not everything that makes your life simpler as a student or a young adult has to be expensive. Many of the bargain products really do perform the same as their higher-priced peers, and do so without shaking you down for spare quarters.

In the interest of saving you the most on products that will make your life run more smoothly, I put together a list of high-value items, both inexpensive and higher-priced, that are worth their weight.

A note-taking app

If the Flintstones had opted to keep driving their Stone Age car in the 21st century, that would be comparable to taking notes the traditional way instead of using Notability.

It's one of the App Store's editors’ choice apps, and that isn’t very surprising. It was the best-selling paid productivity app in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, and it’s no small feat to have north of a thousand reviews in the app store and still be rated 4.5 stars.

The app allows you to annotate PDFs, mark-up photos, record lectures, provide audio feedback, and thanks to the cloud, lets you have unrestricted, uniform access to the notes you take in school or during a business meeting.

My personal favorite feature is that your notes automatically link to recordings, so during the playback, you can watch your annotations grow along with the recording.

TrackR Bravo

Life is busy and scattered, and so are you on occasion. It probably doesn't help that so many of your most important things are small enough to misplace easily and harder to find.

TrackR is here to make sure that you never really lose your house keys, wallet, purse, or even your TV remote ever again.

Lost your phone? Press the button on the device and it'll ring, even on silent mode.

A screen protector for your phone

Accidents happen and they're supernaturally prone to happen in this stage of life.

Paying $7.99 now instead of around $100 to fix a shattered screen is the kind of margin that can make or break someone's day. So having a dependable and cost-effective plan A is one of the easiest and smartest financial moves you can make.

This specific protector is ultra-thin, ultra-clear, and highly durable. It's the best seller on Amazon and more affordable right now than ever.

The 12 best Disney movies on Netflix right now

$

The INSIDER Summary:

  • Disney is removing all of their movies and TV shows from Netflix to create their own streaming platform.
  • Now is the time to take advantage of all the Disney movies there is to watch before they're gone.
  • From "Zootopia" to "Moana," these are the best Disney movies on Netflix right now.

Netflix junkies (and probably Netflix itself) were rocked by the news that Disney is terminating its business with the streaming service. The Mouse House is taking all of their movies and TV shows off of Netflix and will be creating its own streaming platform which will be the exclusive home to its massive library of content. Come 2019, Netflix subscribers won't have access to any Disney titles, including those from Pixar, Marvel, and "Star Wars." 2019 is still far off, so take this time now to treasure what we've got and binge your way through the best Disney movies still on Netflix.

Netflix still has a wide variety of Disney titles that would please lots of different fans. A casual search will lead to animated 90s classics, modern day hits, blockbuster favorites, and crummy direct-to-DVD sequels as far as the eye can see. So enjoy not needing to buy another monthly subscription for just a little longer by checking out the best Disney movies Netflix currently has to offer.

SEE ALSO: The 17 best animated TV shows of all time

"Zootopia"

The fourth-highest grossing film of 2016, "Zootopia" was both a critical and commercial success for Disney. The movie was something of a spiritual throwback to the studio's talking animal-centric classics, but with a modern spin and a relevant message.

The film follows the first bunny police officer of Zootopia as she teams up with a con man fox to uncover the disappearance of a key animal. The main draw of "Zootopia" is the city itself, a clever look at what a city run by animals would be like and a fun world that audiences would love to explore. Plus, gotta love that sloth scene!

"Mulan"

"Mulan" came out in a weird period for Disney Animation. It's not prime Disney Renaissance (from "The Little Mermaid" to "The Lion King") but it's leagues better than most of the films that would soon come after thanks to its music, themes, and funny side characters.

"Mulan" continued a growing trend at Disney of creating well-rounded female characters concerned with bigger things than finding a prince. Mulan's struggle to protect her father by taking his place in a war was a far cry from some of Disney's more popular princesses. She saved all of China! There's a reason that "Mulan" is next up to get a live-action movie.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"

Likely to be the only "Star Wars" movie on Netflix, subscribers better get their fill of "Rogue One" while they can. The movie was Lucasfilm's first foray into expanding their slate of "Star Wars" films, to great commercial success.

Audiences packed in to see the grubby band of Rebels go on a last ditch mission to weaken the Empire. While the film is by no means perfect, with character and plot issues, it deserves respect for what it tried to do and finally giving Darth Vader a killer action scene.

Nintendo just showcased a ton of new games coming to the Switch

Nintendo's riding high on a streak of successful creations, and the future looks similarly bright. The Japanese game maker's outrageously popular Nintendo Switch console is just weeks away from getting another huge blockbuster in "Super Mario Odyssey."

Super Mario Odyssey

But Nintendo's got more than Mario in the pipeline. How about "DOOM" for starters? Or a brand-new game starring the one and only Kirby? As it turns out, both of those are in the works alongside a bunch more stuff that Nintendo detailed on Wednesday evening in a livestream.

Here's everything we learned!

SEE ALSO: Nintendo is about to release a miniature version of the original SNES — here's everything we know about it

"DOOM"

Perhaps you remember "DOOM" from its 2016 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC? Nintendo's of course hoping you have yet to enjoy ripping through "DOOM," as the version on Switch is a slightly-less-attractive version of the same game. That said, even with slightly less crisp visuals, it's a delight to take such a tremendous game on-the-go.

Release date:"Holiday 2017"

"Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus"

Unlike "DOOM," the other major first-person shooter headed to Nintendo's Switch also comes from publisher Bethesda Softworks. The game is "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus," and it looks like a thrilling jaunt through an alternate history where the Allies lost World War II and Nazis control the United States government.

Release date: 2018

NFL HEAD COACH POWER RANKINGS: Where all 32 coaches stand after Week 1

$
0
0

Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots and head coach Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs

In the NFL, most teams are only as good as their quarterback and their head coach, so if your team finds a good one, they should hang on and not let go at any cost.

Using a loose formula based on their team's recent success, their team's 2017 outlook, and job security, we have ranked all 32 NFL head coaches.

After the first week of the season, Andy Reid and Jack Del Rio are moving up, while Chuck Pagano and Bill O'Brien are not.

Numbers in parentheses represent the coach's record overall. All other data is with their current team only.

32. Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts

Seasons with current team: 6

Playoff appearances with current team: 3

Last playoff appearance with current team: 2014

Conference championships with current team: 0

Super Bowl wins with current team: 0

One thing to know: With Andrew Luck, the Colts are a mediocre team. Without Luck, they might be one of the one or two worst teams in the NFL. With Luck's return still not in sight, a couple of more losses will lead to speculation that Luck will just sit the rest of the season. When a team has a franchise quarterback behind center, they cannot afford to throw seasons away.

31. Bill O'Brien, Houston Texans

Seasons with current team: 4

Playoff appearances with current team: 2

Last playoff appearance with current team: 2016

Conference championships with current team: 0

Super Bowl wins with current team: 0

One thing to know: O'Brien gave Tom Savage just 13 passes before he was pulled at halftime of the Texans' Week 1 loss. Deshaun Watson is now the ninth quarterback used by O'Brien in just his fourth season. This is a team that has backdoored into the playoffs the last two seasons thanks to a weak division. If this team takes a step back, O'Brien will be in trouble.

30. Todd Bowles, New York Jets

Seasons with current team: 3

Playoff appearances with current team: 0

Last playoff appearance with current team: Has not been to the playoffs

Conference championships with current team: 0

Super Bowl wins with current team: 0

One thing to know: It's not Bowles' fault that the Jets are tanking, but that won't matter if ownership decides Bowles is not the right guy for the job when it is time to start moving forward.

10 Trader Joe's meal hacks everyone should try

trader joe'sIt’s hard to pick what we love most about Trader Joe’s. Maybe it’s the unrivaled snack factor, or the try before you buy policy. It could be the instant gratification of all those lazy-girl prepared foods, or perhaps the affordable party and booze options. As if those aren’t enough reasons, TJ’s is also ripe with meal hacks. We’ve put together 10 fresh meal ideas for fall with four ingredients or less. Your midweek dinner game has never looked better.

1. Caribbean Fish Bowl

Make your midweek meal a tropical hiatus. Trader Joe’s sweet and spicy Island Salsa is made with pineapples and mangoes and is perfect on their Panko Breaded Tilapia Fillets and Cuban Style Black Beans.

2. Loaded Butternut Squash Soup

There’s nothing better on a chilly autumn night than a hot bowl of soup… well, except a loaded version. Thankfully, TJ’s has done most of the prep already. Simply chop up some of their Fully Cooked Uncured Bacon and fresh chives, and toss on top of Organic Butternut Squash Soup. Bonus points if you use a Soft Pretzel Stick for dipping.

3. Mediterranean Lentil Salad

This one’s as easy as getting out your salad bowl. Pick up a bag of pre-washed spinach and top with TJ’s Fully Cooked Lentils, Pitted Kalamata Olives, and Crumbled Feta Cheese. If you want a little extra protein, we recommend adding a can of Albacore Tuna in Olive Oil.

The 12 best optical illusions that went viral and stumped the internet

$

illusion faces background split thumbnail

The internet is filled with optical illusions, both intentional and accidental.

The most famous one is The Dress, a photo that made a dress seem possibly black and blue or possibly white and gold, depending on who saw it and under what conditions. It ignited a firestorm of controversy around the web.

Here are 12 0f the most puzzling optical illusions that have gone viral in the past few years, along with some explanations of how they work.

Kendall Jenner seems to be missing a leg.

Earlier this year, InStyle magazine posted an Instagram photo of Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Baldwin hanging out together after the Golden Globes.

They are all very leggy. So it's odd that one went missing. Kendall's left leg is nowhere to be seen. Where'd it go?

It's under her dress.

Eventually, the internet figured it out. It was under her dress all along! If you look really closely, you can see the horizontal top of her leg. She's pointing her knee to her right and twisting her body forward to be more prominent in the picture.

This illusion of six girls with five pairs of legs flummoxed the internet.

Legless women are a staple of the viral optical illusion genre. This photo that went around Reddit in late 2016 showed six women sitting on a couch.

But — yet again — a leg was missing. The person sitting in the middle of the couch seems to have no legs at all.

Moscow announced on Wednesday that it had deployed an unknown number of its MiG-29SMTs to Syria for the first time.

Russian defense firm Mikoyan started developing the MiG-29, codenamed "Fulcrum" by NATO, in 1974, and the jet made its maiden flight in 1977.

It was meant to be stationed near front-line areas to cover Soviet army units and also to protect other aircraft from F-15s and F-16s.

The MiG-29SMT is one of Russia's most recent upgrades of the Fulcrum, and you can see more of it below.

This popular men’s underwear startup has new clothes that are so comfortable you'll want to wear them all the time

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you’ll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

downloadGetting dressed for comfort starts with a great pair of underwear. No matter if you're going to the gym, office, or just lounging around the house, wearing bad underwear will always be uncomfortable.

Boxers that ride up and socks that lose their shape are a thing every guy has experienced, but there's a solution — Tommy John.

Founded in 2008 by Tom Patterson with the help of his now-wife Erin Fujimoto-Patterson, Tommy John started with the goal of bringing men's undergarments into the 21st century.

By reinventing and refining staples like boxers, undershirts, and socks, Tommy John has made a name for itself by producing well-made, comfortable clothes.

While this has extended to making other apparel like T-shirts and lounge pants, the startup is taking another huge step in comfort with its latest release. Dubbed the Go Anywhere Collection, the set comprises underwear, socks, joggers, pants, and henleys designed to be worn anywhere.

Tommy John Go Anywhere Boxer Brief

Amir Ismael, Insider Picks reporter:

When I first saw how long the Tommy John Go Anywhere Box Briefs were, I wasn't sure that I'd like them. After just one wear, they've become my favorite pair out of all the ones I've tried. The four-way stretch material is anti-microbial, anti-odor, contours to the body, and most importantly, never rides up. I've had that problem even on form-fitting boxer briefs because the legs are so short.

Aside from that, these boxers are comfortable on all other parts of your body. They feature a contour pouch so you won't have to constantly adjust yourself, and a Quick Draw fly. A lot of the underwear I've tried don't have a fly at all, but it's one I appreciate even if I don't use it regularly.

Tommy John stands by a "No Wedgie Guarantee," and I can attest to it. Pick up multiple pairs because you'll want to wear these all day every day.

Tommy John Go Anywhere Boxer Brief, $25

Tommy John Go Anywhere Sock

Brandt Ranj, Insider Picks associate editor:

Tommy Johns calls these “performance dress socks,” and while that characterization might sound a little wonky, it’s accurate. Every option is a single color, a majority of which are darker, and the fit is relatively tight; not enough to be uncomfortable, but enough for me to notice. This is exactly what I’d want out of a sock while running or playing sports, but I still prefer looser-fitting options for my day-to-day life.

If you’re an active person, though, and want socks that can transition from the office to the gym, they’re a great option.

Tommy John Go Anywhere Sock, $16

Tommy John Go Anywhere Jogger

Amir Ismael, Insider Picks reporter:

When it comes to comfort, joggers are some of the best pants you can wear and Tommy John has got that down to a science with the Go Anywhere Jogger. Using a combination of polyester, tencel, and spandex, the pants are designed to be moisture-wicking, quick-drying and odor-resistant.

What I liked most about the Tommy John Go Anywhere Jogger was the fit. For me, the perfect sweatpants or joggers can't fit poorly at the waist or have an inseam that's too long, because unlike jeans, you can't compensate with a belt or a pant cuff.  With a stretchy waistband, drawstring, and locking ankle zippers, the Anywhere Jogger is adjustable to your desired fit or style.

I also really appreciated the pocket space. Most jogger pants have very little, so I have to cram everything into the front two pockets, creating unsightly bulges. That wasn't a problem with this jogger. In addition to the two front pockets, there are two extra zippered pockets on the right side and on the rear.

Tommy John Go Anywhere Jogger, $115

28 things we learned from Hillary Clinton's new campaign memoir

hillary clinton what happened book signing

We will probably not be getting The Winds of Winter in 2017, but at least we got one tale of political intrigue in bookstores this year: What Happened, Hillary Clinton’s first-person retelling of the 2016 campaign.

And while the ending may not be as shocking as any of George R.R. Martin’s — she loses — there’s still enough in the book’s 400 pages to pique a reader’s interest, including folksy anecdotes about life on the campaign trail, harsh words for her male opponents, and a fair amount of self-examination about how she fell short.

We’ll leave the official review up to the critics, but in the meantime, here’s a helpful summary of the juiciest tidbits.

SEE ALSO: Conservative media is salivating over Hillary Clinton's new book

1. Remember that famous photo of Bill and Hillary at Trump’s wedding?

(See it here.) She says that they weren’t close at all with Donald and Melania, and assumed they were only invited to increase the wedding’s “star power.” They only went, she says, because they happened to be in the area anyway.

2. Those clear ponchos everyone wore at Trump’s inauguration were originally white.

Until one staffer realized that, from a distance, they all looked like “KKK hoods.”

3. After the election, Hillary was often approached by strangers who apologized for not doing enough to help her win.

(Even more mortifyingly, some parents forced their adult children to apologize to her for not voting.) She writes that she didn’t know how to handle these interactions: “These people were looking for absolution I just couldn’t give.”

These are the last close-up photos of Saturn we may see in decades

With just hours left before its meteoric doom in the clouds of Saturn, NASA's Cassini probe on Thursday sent its final batch of photos to planet Earth.

Cassini is scheduled to die Friday around 6:22 a.m. EDT, though news of its destruction will take about 1 hour and 23 minutes to reach NASA. (The planet is 930 million miles away.) While it's very unlikely telescopes on Earth will record the event, NASA TV is broadcasting live from the Cassini control room during that time.

NASA is killing its only Saturn probe because it discovered oceans which may harbor alien life on Enceladus and Titan — two of Saturn's largest moons. Cassini has nearly run out of propellant, and the space agency wants to avoid crashing into and contaminating the moons; thus, the nuclear-powered probe is being put down.

It may be decades until Earth receives views as crisp and stunning as those returned by Cassini. Even if NASA funds a new Saturn mission in 2019, that spacecraft would launch in 2024 — then it'd take years to make the trip. (Cassini launched from Earth in 1997 and arrived at Saturn in 2004.)

The download of Cassini's last pictures, which began around 5:45 p.m. EDT on Thursday, should take about 11 hours to finish. Linda Spilker, a Cassini project scientist and a planetary scientist at NASA JPL, told reporters on Wednesday that these images are "the final picture postcards of the Saturn system."

Here are some of Cassini's final photos uploaded to the mission's raw image gallery and processed by space fans on social media.

The wireless charging pad comes also with a great Quick Charge 3.0 capable outlet adapter so you can funnel 10 Watts of power to Quick Charge compatible phones like Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Galaxy Note 8. It's important to note that many cheaper fast charging pads don't include the correct outlet adapter, so the $40 price tag is actually really great.

In case you're worried about wireless charging not being totally safe, RAVPower paid special attention to safety. Its charger has built-in over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection systems to ensure that your device gets the proper amount of power.

RAVPower's charger looks like most other wireless chargers. It's a simple round disc with a rubberized coating to ensure that your phone doesn't slide off while it's charging and go crash on the floor. The charging pad measures 3.5 by 3.5 inches, so it shouldn't take up too much space on your nightstand. We'll give you an update on how it works in our tests in the coming weeks.

Pros: Fast wireless charging, includes outlet adapter, affordable, non-slip surface, works with iPhone or Android

Cons: Not the most beautiful charger

The best wireless charger for $20

Why you'll love it: The Anker Fast Wireless Charger Charging Pad can charge your iPhone 8, iPhone X, or compatible Android phone faster with 10 Watts of power.

Anker is known for its excellent, affordable tech accessories. The company makes our favorite lightning and Micro USB cables, excellent battery packs, and really great wireless chargers. Our favorite is the Anker Fast Wireless Charging Pad, which can charge any Qi compatible device with up to 10 Watts of power.

For less than $20, you can get wireless charging in your home. The Anker pad is very simple with its black design and 3.35 by 3.35-inch charging space. This single coil charger comes with a power cord, but you have to buy the wall adapter. Be sure to buy one that supports the fast charging tech and delivers enough power to the pad.

Although Anker recommends you use the wireless charging pad without a case, most phones will charge so long as they're wearing a thin case. Most buyers recommend the charging pad, though some complain that it doesn't work well with thicker cases or that it works better with some phones and not others.

Regardless, it's a great budget option, especially when you consider that most of the wireless chargers in our guide cost more than double the price.

Pros: Affordable, small, charges fast with right adapter, works with all Qi compatible devices

Cons: Outlet adapter not included, may not charge when case is on

Buy the Anker Fast Wireless Charger Charging Pad on Amazon for $21.99 (originally $69.99)

The best wireless charging stand with quick charge

Why you'll love it: The Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand props your phone up while it charges quickly wire-free.

Samsung first supported wireless charging in 2013 with the Galaxy S4, so it has years on experience in wireless charging. Its wireless chargers are among the very best on the market. One of our favorites is the Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand because it juices up your phone quickly without wires and it holds your phone up while it charges.

This charger looks simple and sleek on your nightstand or desk. It's a circular disc with a lip on the front to hold your phone up. It has a rubbery ring in the center to hold your slippery device in place while it charges. You can keep your phone case on while you charge, too, though you may run into problems if your case is super bulky.

I've used this charging pad in the past with Galaxy phones, and it works very well. Samsung says its charging stand only offers fast charging to compatible Galaxy phones, but your speeds may vary based on which phone you have. It comes with the outlet adapter, so you will get fast charging out of the box if you have a Galaxy that supports it.

Since it's Qi compatible, this pad should theoretically work with any wireless charging Android phone, the iPhone 8, or the iPhone X. We will let you know how it goes in practice when we start testing.

Pros: Attractive, holds phone up while charging, non-slip mat, fast charges some phones, comes with outlet adapter

Cons: Not super cheap

Buy the Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand on Amazon for $31.17 and up (price varies by color)

In 5 years of studying rich people, I found self-made millionaires have 7 habits that help them build wealth

  • Thomas C. Corley spent five years interviewing rich people.
  • He found that there are two types of self-made millionaires: those who took a risk, and those who displayed good habits over time.
  • Those who had good habits tended to do a lot of the same things that helped them build wealth.

In my five-year Rich Habits study, I found that self-made millionaires fall into two categories: Risk-Takers and Savers.

Self-made millionaire Risk Takers are individuals who take some risk in the pursuit of wealth. They are typically business owners, entrepreneurs, aggressive investors in stocks or real estate — or they create some product or service that is so unique they are able to demand a significant premium in return for it.

Self-made millionaire Risk Takers were among the wealthiest in my study, with an average net worth of $7.4 million. Being a Risk Taker is only for the bold and courageous. It’s the high-risk path to wealth accumulation. It requires courage, persistence, cunning and a hard core work ethic.

It's not for everyone.

Self-made millionaire Savers accumulate their wealth by living below their means, saving money, and then investing that money prudently. According to my Rich Habits research, this path to multi-millionaire status takes about 32 years. Savers typically are risk-averse, employed most of their lives, and have a low or moderate standard of living. Self-made millionaire Savers were among the least wealthy in my study, with an average net worth of $3.4 million.

But being a Saver is the risk-free way to building wealth. It’s the safe path to wealth accumulation. It requires discipline, diligence and adhering to a low to modest lifestyle.

In my study, I found that all Savers have a specific money mindset. Below are some of the top money strategies of self-made millionaire Savers:

SEE ALSO: I studied millionaires for 5 years and realized being 'rich' comes down to only two things

1. They establish savings goals early in their lives

Ninety-four percent of the self-made millionaires who became rich by saving money saved 20% or more of their net pay or their net income. They did this early in their work lives, long before they accumulated their millions.

With your first paycheck, get into the habit of saving something — 10% or 5% or even just 1%. The point is to set some savings goal and stick with it. This creates the savings habit. The ultimate goal, if you want to become a self-made millionaire, is to save 20% or more or your net pay and prudently invest those savings. Through the power of compounding, your savings and investments will grow over time.

2. They are frugal

I’ve been studying the daily habits of the rich and poor since 2004. I’ve gathered an enormous amount of data on both groups.

Sixty-seven percent of the rich in my study said they were frugal. To them, frugal meant spending their money wisely. It meant buying quality items or services at bargain prices. Most of the wealthy in my study were raised by poor parents or middle-class parents who made a point of instilling in them good habits. Being frugal was one of those good habits they learned from their parents and that they took with them into their adult lives. Looking for value and quality makes you frugal.

Being frugal will not make you rich, but it does mean you will keep more of your money as your purchases are driven by quality and price.

3. They avoid lifestyle creep

'Lifestyle Creep' is increasing your standard of living in order to match your increased income.

It’s a common habit among many who suddenly find themselves making more money. The Rich Habit is to forgo the desire to spend your money today and, instead, sock it away into savings and investments that grow in value and provide financial resources that can be used in the future to maintain your standard of living.

Once you spend your money, it’s gone. When you hit a bump in the road, such as a job loss, you are then forced to sell your stuff. If the stuff you purchased depreciated in value, you get pennies on the dollar.

One of my older and wealthier friends explained to me his rule for financial success:

“Same house, same spouse, same car.”

There’s a lot of wisdom in these words. What they really mean is that no matter what good fortune visits you in life, do not change your standard of living. Don’t supersize your life by buying things you really do not need. Live a modest life and forge the Rich Habit of delayed gratification – putting off what you want today so that you can have something to fall back on in the future.

Meet Generation Z, the 'millennials on steroids' who could lead the charge for change in the US

protest announcement bullhorn martin luther king day

  • Generation Z is the youngest American generation.
  • In many ways, it reflects and amplifies the millennial generation that came before it.
  • It's the most diverse and inclusive generation yet.

Millennials are old news.

Generation Z is up next.

Gen Z was born between 1998 and 2016, meaning the oldest members are just 19.

That means they're the teenagers entering college, soon to join the workforce and spark their own round of why-young-people-are-the-worst think pieces on the internet.

But who are they, really? What can we expect from them? A new report from boutique research firm 747 insights, in partnership with consumer research platform Collaborata, sheds some light on the up-and-coming generation.

The study, called "Generation Nation," surveyed over 4,000 Americans from their late teens to their early 70s to find out how they feel about everything from work to friendships to brands, and analyzed their responses.

Michael Wood, a principal at 747 Insights, told Business Insider he's heard Gen Z called "millennials on steroids" because the generation tends to exhibit similar opinions and beliefs to the one before it — just more.

"In many ways, generational change is like the seasons," he said. "The changes are very gradual, and if we’re looking at society as a whole, it's this millennial mindset that has influenced Gen X and the older generations, but also definitely has had a strong influence on Gen Z."

One of the standout findings of this report, he said, was the lack of patriotism among Gen Z.  "I think it has strong implications for how supportive they're going to be with government moving forward," he said. "They may be even interested in going a different route altogether, one that does a better job of embracing their acceptance and their belief in being inclusive."

Wood also thinks the findings have strong implications for marketing. Gen Z "may not be as willing to accept those pro-America brands as perhaps previous generations did," he said. "Or think about something like the military — maybe they won't necessarily respond to the same messages in terms of recruiting. I think this is a generation we're going to see really demand things being done differently."

Scroll down to learn more about what we can expect from tomorrow's generation:

SEE ALSO: Millennials are turning out better than anyone expected — and it may be thanks to their parents

Technology has shaped their daily lives, and their worldview.

According to the research, there are three primary factors that influence a generation: age, societal norms, and technology.

Gen Z doesn't know a time without the internet, and it shows. They favor streaming content in snack-sized bites, like that offered through Youtube, and consume it mostly on their phones and computers. They largely eschew TV shows and movies, and are unused to live programming with advertising.

747 Insights also points out that because Gen Z has little experience consuming traditional broadcast news, it may be more susceptible to "fake news" than the generations that precede it.

But they use social media differently than the millennials who popularized it.

Only 49% of Gen Zers agree with the statement "Social media is an important part of my life"— a truth 61% of millennials admit to.

However, nearly 60% of both generations are concerned that social media is too public and that their posts could come back to haunt them. For Gen Z, this concern has changed its behavior: Members favor Snapchat in part because of the strict control over who can see their posts.

Gen Z eclipses all other generations when it comes to embracing diversity.

When presented with the statement "I have one or more friends who are of a different race than me," here are the percentages of respondents who agreed, by generation:

• 81% Gen Z
• 69% Millennials
• 67% Gen X
• 71% Baby Boomers

As far as dating people of a different race, 35% of Gen Zers (who are age 19 at most) said they have; that's more than any other generation than millennials, 43% of whom said they have.

This may be because Gen Z is the most racially diverse generation in America. The Census Bureau found that 48% of Gen Z is non-Caucasian. The next most-diverse generation is the millennials, 44% of whom are non-Caucasian.

Members of Gen Z are also the most likely to say they have friends of a different sexual orientation (59%, versus 53% of millennials and smaller percentages of the older generations).

5 ways Apple's iPhone X is catching up with Android phones

iphone x iphone 8 (smaller, brighter)

That new iPhone X sure looks nice, doesn't it?

It's arguably one of the biggest leaps in hardware features that Apple has introduced for a new iPhone. There's a bunch of tech inside the iPhone X that you won't find in any other iPhone.

But that's not to say that you've never seen that tech in other phones. If you've ever looked around and seen an Android phone in someone else's hands, chances are it had most of the same features that Apple just introduced with the iPhone X.

Check out the tech that Android phones already have — some of which has been around since 2013!

SEE ALSO: An Apple exec has a tip for preventing a thief from unlocking your iPhone X with your face

OLED display

Apple certainly took its time with this one. Android smartphone makers have been using OLED displays for years now — like Samsung and its original Galaxy from 2009 — and Apple is just starting to use them in the iPhone X.

Until the iPhone X, Apple has been using LCD displays — and eventually the better LCD IPS display, or "Retina" display, with the iPhone 4 onward.

IPS displays are nice, but they're not as nice as OLED ones, which produce better colors and gorgeous contrast. They also help with battery life by consuming less power overall than LCD displays.

Fast charging

Here's another one that Apple took its time with. Android phones have been using Qualcomm's QuickCharge technology since 2013, and Apple just introduced its own "fast charging" feature with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Better late than never, you might say. But there's a big asterisk that comes with Apple's fast charging: You need to buy separate accessories to use it. Specifically, you need at least the $49 29W USB-C power adapter — or the USB-C power adapter that came with USB-C MacBook laptops — and a $25 USB-C-to-Lightning cable. Android phones with QuickCharge, on the other hand, have been included with the necessary power adapters and cables for users to quick-charge their phones right out of the box.

Wireless charging

The first smartphones to use wireless charging arrived in 2013, and they were Android phones. It's now 2017, and the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X are the first of Apple's iPhones to feature wireless charging.

The 5 best new songs you can stream right now

lorde lollapalooza in Brazil April 5, 2014

This week, Lorde and The xx remixed tracks from their respective 2017 albums, and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij released his first solo album.

Here are the 5 best songs from the past week that you can stream right now:

SEE ALSO: The 5 best songs from last week — St. Vincent, The National, and more

The xx — "On Hold (Jamie xx Remix)"

The xx's 2016 single "On Hold" found the English trio sampling Hall & Oates to forge the most upbeat and accessible song of its career. In a new remix of the song, Jamie xx, the band's producer, breaks the track down into fragments and recombines them in the form of a jittery and electric house track.

Ariel Pink — "I Wanna Be Young"

Sounding like an unhinged, lo-fi Steely Dan, psych-pop artist Ariel Pink waxes nostalgic on the funk-influenced "I Wanna Be Young," a standout track from his 11th studio album, "Dedicated to Bobby Jameson."

Rostam — "Don't Let It Get To You"

The ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij's first solo LP "Half-Light" doesn't come anywhere near the greatness of his former group's three albums, but his song "Don't Let It Get To You" does show flashes of that same pop-rock brilliance.

5 things you should always do when editing your résumé — and 5 to avoid

$

GettyImages 462860070Usually, practice makes perfect, but in the case of resume writing, meticulous editing and fine tuning are what will lead you to the perfect resume.

However, keep in mind that refining your resume requires a very unique set of lenses to be able to see its flaws and imperfections.

With so many contradictory guidelines and common misconceptions about what makes a job-winning resume, it's hard to know for sure what to change or where to even begin.

To demystify some of the ambiguities surrounding the resume editing process, here's a hand-picked list of some of the most important do's and don'ts to be aware of during this stage.

SEE ALSO: Ask yourself 2 questions to trim a résumé that's longer than one page

Do: List your most impressive and relevant achievements first

While you might have jotted down the different sections of your resume in whatever order they happened to pop into your mind, this is not always optimal.

Instead, you want to move your most impressive accomplishments to the top of your resume. That way, your resume will make a great first impression as soon as the hiring manager begins reading it.

Do: Optimize for applicant tracking systems

No matter how good your resume looks to the human eye, it might still have trouble getting past applicant tracking systems. These resume robots are used by large organizations (and sometimes small ones too) to weed out unqualified candidates during the initial hiring process. They work by scoring your resume based on how well it matches the job description and meets the predefined requirements.

Some common tactics to get past these robots include incorporating the appropriate keywords, formatting your resume properly, and utilizing standardized resume headers. For a more complete guide on how to beat these pesky programs, check out this detailed article.

Do: Include soft skills

You might have forgotten to include them in your initial draft, but they're important to mention. Soft skills refer to the intangible assets that employers look in candidates, such as communication skills, problem-solving prowess, and teamwork ability. While you shouldn't list these soft skills in your "Skills" section, the bullet points on your resume should be written in a manner that implies that you possess them.
