Apple's latest iPad may be boring, but it's the perfect tablet for most people (AAPL)

iPad 2018

There's one word that sums up Apple's latest iPad: safe.

The new 9.7-inch device debuted earlier this month at an education-focused event in Chicago. Apple seemed to bill the device as the perfect option for schools, but as a sensible consumer product, too.

The new iPad has a more powerful A10 chip built in and has support for Apple's $100 stylus, called Apple Pencil. But the new iPad lacks a certain freshness. It's not a design risk like the iPhone X, nor is it a true low-cost, kid-friendly-ish option like the iPhone 5c. The new iPad's design has been recycled, its guts have been — nearly — duplicated, and even its cost remains the same (unless you're a school, teacher, or student, in which case, the price is now 10% cheaper).

This isn't necessarily a bad move on Apple's part, though.

For anyone who's actively shopping for a tablet for the first time, someone looking for a lower-cost MacBook replacement, or for an iPad fan in desperate need of an upgrade, the new iPad is the perfect choice.

In fact, I've spent the last week using the newest iPad with an Apple Pencil, and it's already filled a technology gap I didn't even know I had.

SEE ALSO: The $200 Fitbit Versa is the best smartwatch I've ever used — yes, even better than the Apple Watch

First things first: this is not a device for kids.

Let's get one thing out of the way right off the bat: It's absurd that Apple is marketing this iPad as a practical option for schools.

There's nothing about the new iPad's design that differentiates it from other models or makes it well-suited to kids. It doesn't come with a protective case and it isn't any more durable than other iPads. It has a large glass screen, and if it breaks, it's really not easy to repair. If adults are prone to breaking their expensive devices, why does anyone at Apple think children will fare any better?

It's also odd that the new iPad is being presented as a reasonably priced option. At $330, it costs the same as last year's model — even the $30 education discount is identical. Plus, in order to for schools to give their students the best iPad experience, they'll need to buy accessories like a case, and an Apple Pencil ($90 for schools) or Logitech Crayon ($50).

While I'm sure kids would be thrilled to have an iPad to use in their classrooms, it just doesn't make a lot of sense from a financial standpoint — especially when there are more affordable, less vulnerable computers out there.

Apple Pencil doesn't seem like a great tool for children, either.

One of the few new things about the iPad is that it supports Apple Pencil, a feature previously reserved for the iPad Pro.

I honestly loved using the Pencil, and it quickly became one of my favorite Apple products I've ever used (more on that later). But over the course of testing the iPad and the Pencil, it became increasingly obvious that this is not a product I would ever give to a child.

For one, in order to charge up or pair Apple Pencil with your iPad, you have to plug it into the Lightning port at the bottom of the iPad. The Apple Pencil sticks straight out of the tablet like a weapon, which doesn't seem all that kid-friendly.

The Apple Pencil is also both very expensive and very easy to lose. It doesn't attach to the iPad in any way (unless you're charging it — but again, that makes it a weapon), and I frequently faced the issue of where to store it so I didn't lose it. The Pencil is slippery and rounded, and kept rolling off my desk or any table I set it on. It also has removable cap, which isn't attached to the Pencil at all. Not only is the cap a choking hazard, but it seems laughably easy to lose as well.

I'm a 26-year-old person who rarely every loses things, and even I was constantly concerned about misplacing or dropping the Apple Pencil — I can't imagine how a child would keep track of it.

From a consumer standpoint, though, there's a lot to love about the iPad.

One knock against the iPad is that Apple didn't really change its design from previous models. It's a safe choice, and it's hard to get excited about a product that looks exactly like last year's version.

I don't think this is the greatest decision on Apple's part, but I am starting to see the merits after a week of using the device. By prioritizing function and cost-effectiveness over cutting-edge design, Apple made an iPad that's reasonably priced for consumers and remains easy to use for most people.

If Apple had released an iPad with an iPhone X-like design — which it still might do! — it would have been going too far in the other direction. I feel like I was able to get more use out of the iPad because it was somewhat basic and boring — I wasn't wasting time fiddling with Face ID or trying to figure out which iPad apps worked well with the notch.

If the iPad is a truly being positioned as a productivity tool, keeping the old design is the best choice — at least for now.

  • "Direct-to-consumer" and "custom furniture" sound like two ideas that shouldn't mix, but new furniture company The Inside is executing it well, with fun and fashionable style.
  • It offers dozens of fabric options per piece, from solid colors to more adventurous florals and stripes.
  • Each affordable piece is made-to-order and shipped to you for free within two weeks, significantly cutting down the barriers of access to quality furniture that truly feels like your own.

Christiane Lemieux, the founder of modern home furnishings brand DwellStudio, former executive creative director of Wayfair, and now, founder of new direct-to-consumer custom furniture company The Inside, is well-acquainted with the importance of design.

In The Inside's blog, she writes, "[Design] matters because it shapes how we live, feel and learn." Her philosophy is that even though we should take interior design seriously because of its impact on our happiness, that doesn't mean the furniture itself, nor the process of shopping for furniture, should necessarily be serious.

That's right — it's okay to have fun when you buy furniture, and The Inside hopes to infuse some more personality and delight into the process through its customizable product options. When you have more control over what you're buying, it's more likely that you'll enjoy the final product.

Each product is made in the US to your exact preferences and will be shipped anywhere in the country for free. Custom furniture traditionally takes a couple months to complete, so this fast turnaround is impressive.

It also directly collaborates with these influencers to create distinctive pieces and keep its product line fresh. Current collaborations include bold, geometric prints with fashion designer Peter Som and basic but versatile neutrals with women's media brand The Everygirl. These partnerships prove the worlds of art, clothing, and home work best when intertwined, not closed off in their own universes.

peter som collabThe Inside is direct-to-consumer, but if you do want to see and feel some of the pieces firsthand, it has a showroom in New York City that you can visit. After stopping by myself, I saw that the quality and durability were impressive, which wasn't all too surprising because these pieces aren't mass-produced (which, while efficient, doesn't always do wonders for quality construction). Because The Inside holds no inventory, it can concentrate on making each and every piece individually.

The prices are quite affordable for everything you're getting: custom features, modern, fashionable aesthetic, and a quick, painless delivery. Queen-size headboards start at $429, chairs at $329, and love seats at $1,299.

The 17 biggest questions 'Avengers: Infinity War' needs to answer when it comes out

avengers infinity war

Spoilers ahead if you aren't caught up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

"Avengers: Infinity War" comes to theaters April 27. And when it does, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy will be going up against Gamora's dad, Thanos.

As they attempt to save the world from the Mad Titan menace, there are a lot of questions we have going into the movie. Many of them revolve around characters who may or may not turn up.

Keep reading to see all the questions we have going into the third "Avengers" movie we hope to see answered.

Where is Hawkeye?

Let's start off with the most obvious question. Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has mysteriously been left out of any marketing for the movie so far. Renner's name doesn't even appear on the movie's main poster. What's the deal?

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo told Screenrant he has a role to play in the film.

'So Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie,"said Joe Russo.

And what about Ant-Man?

We know Paul Rudd's Marvel character is getting a sequel to his 2015 movie, but so far he hasn't appeared in any trailers or marketing for the movie either. It's not clear whether or not we'll have to wait until "Ant-Man and the Wasp" to see him.

Where is the last Infinity Stone located?

After 18 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we've seen five of the six Infinity stones. The only one we haven't seen is the orange soul gem.

When the powerful stones are combined in an Infinity gauntlet, they give the wielder almost unlimited power.

A lot of people think the final stone is located on Wakanda, especially since a giant battle takes place there. If you need a refresher on all of the stones, you can read about them here.

Masters pro shop hallway

Every year the Masters offers golf fans the opportunity to head to Augusta National and watch as the best players in the world test their skill against the picturesque, yet unforgiving course.

Fans who attend the Masters this year will have the chance to check out Augusta National's new golf shop, offering patrons the exclusive opportunity to purchase official Masters gear for friends and family. The new store is vastly larger than its predecessor and will make any golf fan drool.

You can check out some of the features of the new shop below.

Patrons will be greeted by a simple, classic sign that announces they're in the right place to find official Masters gear.

In the old shop, long lines were a problem, with patrons in many cases left waiting outside in the elements for some time before there was even room to enter the store. Now, there is space for lines inside the building, with installations that tell the story of Augusta National in place to help engage the attention of those who wait.

Upon entering the store, customers are met with a wide array of options, with shirts, hats, belts, pins, dog collars, and plenty of other memorabilia available for purchase.

The Masters has insanely strict rules — here are the things they can throw you out for doing

Masters Rules official

This week the golf world's attention will once again turn to Augusta National, as the best players in the world compete in the Masters tournament.

The Masters is a tournament of tradition — caddies are still made to wear their all-white overalls while walking the course. So it should come as no surprise that there are many rules for patrons looking to watch Tiger, Rory, Dustin, and Phil this weekend.

On Tuesday, Bryce Ritchie, an editor at golf magazine "Bunkered," reported that the Masters even had a list of sayings that had been banned from the course, with this year's list including the now-iconic "Dilly Dilly," as made famous by Bud Light. According to Ritchie, fans who shout "Dilly Dilly," or similar phrases, will be ejected from the tournament.

Still, there are even more arcane rules at Augusta National, all the way down to what you can bring on to the grounds. Below you can check out a list of all the items that will get you stopped by security at the Masters before you even take the course, according to the tournament's official website.

Phones

Fans looking to post Instagram selfies with their favorite golfers at the Masters will have to find another way to share their content, as Augusta National forbids any phones. While there are plenty of signs to help patrons find their way around the course, meeting up with friends if you get separated could prove difficult without communication. For fans who need to reach someone off the course, payphones are available.

Bulky bags and backpacks

Not allowing big bags has become a somewhat standard practice at many sporting events of late, but still, taking in hours and hours of golf and walking the course without a sizable pack could prove frustrating for some.

Beepers or other electronic devices

Proving how old school the Masters is, the tournament still has rules on the books regarding the use of beepers. So yeah, doctors better leave their pagers at home, as most others have for the past 15 years.

Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., considered one of the greatest Americans to ever live, was assassinated 50 years ago on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

King rose to prominence after helping lead the Montgomery bus boycott, which led to a US Supreme Court decision that desegregated Alabama's bus system.

King went on to be the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Council, leading marches from Selma to Montgomery. A moving orator, King delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on Washington in 1963.

Inspiring generations to come, King's work and activism led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and more.

Here are 11 of the most iconic photos of King ever taken:

King was instrumental in leading the more than year-long Montgomery bus boycott to desegregate the bus system, which was sparked by Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her seat.

The picture was taken after King had been found guilty of conspiracy to boycott the buses, but the judge suspended his $500 fine.

In April 1963, King and the Southern Christian Leadership Council organized the Birmingham Campaign to protest segregation, which involved a series of sit-ins and marches.

After King was arrested, and while in solitary confinement, he penned his famed "Letter From a Birmingham Jail," which responded to a number of local religious leaders who criticized the Birmingham campaign.

The best golf shoes you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

best golf shoes

The Insider Pick:

  • Although it’s easy to focus on the spikes and traction design in golf shoes, don’t forget about comfort. After all, you’re going to be on your feet and walking for four or five hours while playing. The Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 golf shoes will give you an incredibly high level of comfort, regardless of whether you’re walking or riding around the course.

Golf shoes have come a long way over the past few decades. For most of the 20th century, golf shoes looked like dress shoes and had hard metal spikes that were molded into the incredibly stiff soles. As hard as it is to believe, they were typically even less comfortable than I just made them sound.

But in the past couple of decades, golf shoes have undergone a significant transformation. The metal spikes are gone in favor of plastic spikes that aren’t as sharp but have more contact points with the ground. The dress shoe style still exists, but golf shoes that look more like athletic shoes are now the norm.

When you consider golfers could be walking the equivalent of almost a 10K road race each time they play 18 holes, the fact that golf shoes are borrowing design elements from more comfortable shoes, like running shoes, isn’t all that surprising.

Now that there are so many great and stylish golf shoes available, it can be hard to find the right pair for your needs. We've done the research to find the best golf shoes you can buy.

Read on in the slides below to learn why the Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 golf shoes are our top pick and why you might also like the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 golf shoes, the Adidas Adipure Flex golf shoes, the New Balance Minimus golf shoes, and the Puma Ignite Pwradapt golf shoes.

The best golf shoes overall

Why you'll love them: The Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 golf shoes provide a high level of performance and support while you golf, and they’re also extremely comfortable.

Regardless of whether you’re walking the golf course or riding in a cart, you will be spending a lot of time on your feet. That makes comfort very important in your golf shoes. The Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 spikeless golf shoes are our top pick because they're so comfortable, waterproof, and breathable to wear on the course.

The shoe has a leather upper segment that’s fused to the sole, providing strong waterproofing. One Amazon reviewer named Joe likes the water-repellant construction of the Go Golf Elite 2 shoes, because they are perfect for playing early in the morning on dewy grass.

The midsole gives you a good level of support and comfort, so you can wear the shoe all day. In fact, Plugged in Golf says the Go Golf Elite 2 shoes are so comfortable that you could play sockless. The shoe’s midsole provides just the right mix of comfort and support to keep your feet happy as you play all 18 holes.

In its review, National Club Golfer says these Skechers shoes are the most comfortable shoes the reviewer has ever worn. Such a high level of comfort makes these Skechers shoes great for walking the course.

You’ll receive a perfect level of breathability with the Go Golf Elite 2, according to the Golf Influence review. However, these shoes don’t offer quite the same level of grip and traction as a spiked shoe, so that's important to note.

A few Amazon reviewers say the Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 sizes seem to run a little tight, especially in the toe box, so you may need to size up.

You can buy the Go Golf Elite 2 in multiple color combinations, sizes, and in men’s and women’s designs.

Pros: High level of comfort for a full round of golf, provides strong waterproof capabilities, perfect shoes for those who will walk the course, will give you a nice level of support in the midsole

Cons: Spikeless design doesn’t have quite the traction of a spiked shoe, toe box is a little tight

Buy the Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 Men’s Golf Shoes on Amazon for $50+ (price varies by size and color)

Buy the Skechers Go Golf Elite 2 Women’s Golf Shoes on Amazon for $45+ (price varies by size and color)

The best spikeless golf shoes

Why you'll love them: The Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 golf shoes are comfortable for walking, but they also have an innovative sole that will give you more traction than most spikeless shoes.

Spikeless golf shoes certainly feel comfortable when you're walking on the course, but traction is a hit and miss proposition with them. Ecco has made traction a priority with its various spikeless golf shoes, culminating in the Biom Hybrid 2.

Ecco spent a lot of time designing the sole of its Biom Hybrid 2 golf shoes to help you with traction on the course. It uses Traction Bars to give you the grip that you need to have a sturdy swing.

With the recently released Biom Hybrid 2, Ecco has extended the Traction Bars around the heel of the shoe to improve the balance of its spikeless shoes even more, tweaking the design of the popular original Biom.

The redesigned pattern of the spikeless sole on these golf shoes helps you maintain a better level of traction during your swing while allowing you to walk naturally.

You’ll especially appreciate the two-piece sole, which creates a mixture of extra firm support for your golf swing on one side of the sole and a softer part for more comfort when walking on the other side of the sole. The placement of the two parts matches the different movements you make when swinging the golf club versus when walking.

The Biom Hybrid 2 has 800 points of contact with the ground, which gives you a high level of traction. Yet, these shoes are comfortable enough to wear away from the course, too, according to Independent Golf Reviews.

Critical Golf says the Biom’s design in the sole gives you support without affecting your ability to walk or swing the club naturally. The new design makes the Biom Hybrid 2 the most comfortable golf shoes around, according to Amazon reviewer Thomas Reed.

The upper portion of the shoe consists of a durable yak leather, which is also breathable. Ecco uses Hydromax technology to keep the yak leather pliable and to give it waterproof capabilities, according to Golfalot. However, you will pay a little more for these golf shoes than typical spikeless shoes.

A few Amazon reviewers say the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 shoes tend to run a little small, so size up. You can select between multiple color combinations, sizes, and men’s or women’s golf shoes.

Pros: Impressive spikeless design of the sole creates hundreds of points of contact with the ground for a smooth swing and extra support for walking, highly comfortable shoe, waterproof leather construction

Cons: Price point is a little high for spikeless shoes, sizes tend to run a little small

Buy the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 Men’s Golf Shoes on Amazon for $153.02+ (price varies by size and color)

Buy the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 Women’s Golf Shoes on Amazon for $98.50+ (price varies by size and color)

The best spiked golf shoes

Why you'll love them: The high-quality construction and good price of the Adipure Flex spiked golf shoes will put Adidas on your radar for golf gear.

If you feel more comfortable playing golf with a spiked golf shoe, rather than a spikeless version, the Adidas Adipure Flex golf shoes offer an excellent mixture of performance, comfort, and affordability.

The Adidas shoes are waterproof, which is helpful when playing in wet conditions early in the morning or after a rainstorm. If you’re wearing a spiked golf shoe, you’re probably already concerned about keeping your traction in wet conditions, so the waterproof capabilities in these shoes are important.

With seven spikes on the sole of the Adipure Flex, you’ll receive good traction. Three of the spikes are tightly bunched in the heel area, giving you extra traction for generating power. These shoes perform especially well in cold and wet conditions, according to Golf Magic.

These shoes give you a nice level of comfort, too, as they each feature a sock liner that molds to your foot.

Golf Shoes Info likes the low price point of these Adidas golf shoes, as well as the great traction and waterproofing. However, low handicap golfers may find the Adipure Flex lacking in features to help with balance for high-speed swings.

Amazon reviewer CHollrah says Adidas has improved its construction quality in recent years, resulting in an impressive level of golf shoes with the Adipure Flex.

The Adidas shoes may not perfectly fit golfers who have wide feet, warns Amazon reviewer Maxwell Tucker, but they still will perform well. However, Amazon reviewer Mapeel says the arch supports in the Adipure Flex shoes aren’t as strong as they should be.

Adidas sells the Adipure in a few different colors and sizes.

Pros: Great price point for spiked golf shoes, extra grouping of spikes near the heel helps to deliver good traction for power, waterproof design works especially well in cold and rainy weather

Cons: Low handicap players may want more traction in the toe area, arch support could be better

Buy the Adidas Adipure Flex Men’s Golf Shoes on Amazon for $99.99+ (price varies by size and color)

A Connecticut mansion that Donald Trump once owned is on the market for $45 million — and it's everything you thought it would be

Donald Trump and his wife, Ivana, pose outside the Federal Courthouse after she was sworn in as a United States citizen, May 1988.

  • President Donald Trump and then-wife Ivana purchased a Connecticut mansion for $4 million in the early 1980s.
  • During the couple's divorce, Ivana got the house.
  • Ivana sold it in 1998 for $15 million — and it's now on the market again for $45 million.

A Connecticut mansion, once owned by President Donald Trump and then-wife Ivana is currently on the market for $45 million.

In the early 1980s, Trump and Ivana purchased the Greenwich mansion for $4 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. The home's current owners, financier Robert Steinberg and his wife, Suzanne, purchased the home from Ivana in 1998.

After Trump and Ivana divorced in the early '90s, the home went to Ivana — who sold it to the Steinberg's for $15 million. Listing agent Tamar Lurie of Coldwell Banker told the Wall Street Journal that when the Steinberg's moved in, there was much more gold decor: "When Donald and Ivana had it, they had it decorated very lavishly," Lurie said.

The Stienberg's have since redecorated. Originally, they put the home on the market for $54 million — then reduced its price to $45 million as Trump's presidential campaign was ramping up. It was taken off the market for some time, but is once again listed for $45 million.

Since he announced his bid for the presidency in June 2015, Donald Trump steadily accrued the support of a number of celebrities — some of whom are more notable than others.

In the run-up to his 2016 presidential election, Trump earned a variety of endorsements in the entertainment world, from former sports stars like Mike Tyson and Dennis Rodman to musicians like Kid Rock and Ted Nugent.

Most recently, Roseanne Barr has sparked controversy for her vocal support of President Trump (and her promotion of far-right conspiracy theories).

Here are 31 celebrities who have supported President Trump:

DON'T MISS: 41 celebrities who have taken a strong stand against Donald Trump

Roseanne Barr

Trump's most vocal celebrity supporter of late, Roseanne Barr has a history of tweeting her support of the president.

"4 those who wonder-back in the day when I was called a 'liberal' by journalists, I used to answer-'I'm not a Liberal, I'm a radical' & I still am-I voted Trump 2 shake up the status quo & the staid establishment," Barr tweeted in December.

Jon Voight

In a statement to Breitbart in 2016, the actor said that he supported Donald Trump as the Republican nominee because "he's an answer to our problems." Voight also called Trump "funny, playful, and colorful, but most of all, he is honest."

He added, "He has no bull to sell, and everyone will discover the bull most politicians spew out is for their own causes and benefits."

Before Trump's inauguration in January 2017, Voight said at a Washington D.C. rally of Trump that Abraham Lincoln "is smiling knowing America will be saved by an honest and good man who will work for the all the people."

Scott Baio

The "Happy Days" and "Joanie Loves Chachi" star has previously said he likes how Trump communicates. ("He speaks like I speak," he told FoxNews’ Judge Jeanine Pirro.)

In his speech at the RNC in July 2016, Baio said, "We need Donald Trump to fix this. Is Donald Trump a messiah? No, he’s just a man, a man who wants to give back to his country, America, the country that has given him everything.

"Hillary Clinton wants to be president for Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump wants to be president for all of us,” he added. “So, of course, let’s make America great again, but let’s make America, America again."

1. Set your alarm for earlier.

We know…you wake up early enough as it is. But, just like a good night's sleep does a body good, so does sex.  "So, set the alarm 15 to 20 minutes earlier than usual and plan your romp," say Drs. Cristina Bosch and John A. Robinson of  The Hormone Zone, aka, The Sex Docs. Need more time than that? Set it for even earlier — remember, you don't have to be fully alert: sleepy sex is plenty of fun, too.

2. Freshen up.

Feeling less than sexy with morning breath, knotted hair, or pillow lines on your face? If those things are preventing you from enjoying morning sex, hit the bathroom first, says sexuality expert,Kelly Connell.

"Brushing your teeth and coming back to bed to kiss so you don't have morning breath is perfectly fine." It's all about what makes you feel comfortable.

3. Take advantage of feeling frisky.

If you're typically tired and not in the mood in morning, but your partner naturally wakes up feeling horny, take it as a compliment. "They find you super sexy even first thing in the morning when you haven't brushed your teeth," says Laurel House, resident sex expert at online sex store My First Blush. "Sometimes if you change your mind, your body will follow."

In other words, once you feel their hands on your waist, don't be surprised if you find yourself getting turned on.

dan scavino

With former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks' departure from the administration of President Donald Trump last month, Trump lost a major player in his inner circle who had served him since the early days of the campaign.

But another person in Trump's orbit has been by his side since way before his 2016 campaign began — White House social media director Dan Scavino.

His relationship with Trump runs all the way back to 1990, when a 16-year-old Scavino was hand-picked to be Trump's caddie. Since that chance selection, Scavino has rocketed high into the ranks of Trump's communications team, and today is part of a small group of people in charge of the White House's messaging.

Here's how Scavino went from cleaning clubs to managing Trump's social media:

After Trump began criticizing what he called "chain migration," many pointed out that Scavino's family itself had came to the US through this process. After his ancestor Vittorio came to New York in 1904, other members of his family followed over the next few years.

Scavino was born in 1976 and grew up in the New York City metropolitan area.

GoCompare and On Location teamed up to figure out what the 20 most popular filming locations are in the US, using data from IMDB. Unsurprisingly, all 20 are located in the entertainment hubs of California and New York.

Even though you might think you know what these places look like, movie magic is still able to transform a bustling train station into a dystopian courtroom, or caves in a park into extraterrestrial mines.

Here are the 20 most filmed locations in the US — plus what they actually look like in real life.

20. Union Station, California

Union Station is the largest railroad passenger terminal in the western United States and is located in Los Angeles. It can be seen in 27 movies including "Blade Runner,""Catch Me If You Can," and "Seabiscuit."

18. Hollywood Forever Cemetery, California

Hollywood Forever Cemetery is known for all the famous people buried there, but it's also been seen in 29 movies like "The Prestige,""Ruby Sparks," and "The Bonfire of the Vanities."

18. Bushwick, New York

Bushwick, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, has been in 29 movies including "Run All Night" and "Once Upon a Time in Queens."

We drove a $57,500 Tesla Model 3 and a $43,000 Chevy Bolt to see which is better — here's the verdict (TSLA, GM)

Tesla Model 3

  • The Tesla Model 3 and the Chevy Bolt are your two main choices if you're in the market for an all-electric vehicle with a range of at least 200 miles.
  • The base price of the Model 3 is $35,000, while it's $37,500 for the Bolt. There's a $7,500 federal tax credit available for both.
  • We found that, head-to-head, two very different cars surprisingly wound up in a dead heat.

Last year, we were so impressed by the Chevy Bolt that we named it a 2017 Car of the Year runner-up.

Early this year, we spent some time getting to know the hotly anticipated Tesla Model 3.

We haven't yet properly reviewed the Tesla Model 3, but we will later this year. In the meantime, we thought it might be worth it see how the two vehicles stack up against each other.

Read on to find out what we thought.

FOLLOW US: On Facebook for more car and transportation content!

Let's start with the Chevy Bolt, in "summit white."

The base Bolt is $37,495, meaning that a $7,500 federal tax credit drops the price to just under $30,000.

Our tester was the Premier trim, which starts at $40,905.

Once some options were added, we were looking at about $43,000.

The production version of the Bolt made a stunning debut in 2016.

OK, so it's not the coolest-looking car on the planet ...

11 foods you should eat for stronger nails

Putting Strawberries in Blender

  • Whether you realize it or not, nail health can be a pretty strong indicator of your overall health.
  • Plenty of nutrients in food can help your nails, taking them from dry and brittle to healthy and strong.
  • Foods that can improve your nails include fruits, lean meats, salmon, leafy greens, beans, eggs, nuts, and whole grains.

You likely give very little thought to your nails even if you
treat yourself to regular manicures. After all, they're just kind of there, so it's rare for most of us to worry too much about our nail health.

But if you've ever had dry, brittle nails that feel weak or break easily, you know how distressing it can be, because it's not just about the way your tips look. It turns out your fingernails can be an indicator of underlying health concerns, or even just visible proof that your diet is lacking in certain important vitamins and nutrients.

Fear not, though: Incorporating these 11 types of foods into your diet is the easiest (and tastiest!) way to help your nails grow long and strong without supplements, treatments, or products with harsh chemicals.

Lean meats like turkey, chicken, and beef

The same way that protein helps build strong muscles, it also does wonders for your fingernails. As Dr. Ava Shamban, dermatologist and author, told The Huffington Post, lean meats are great for nails.

She said, "Nails are made out of protein, so the first thing you can try is adding more to your diet." She recommends eating lean poultry, fish, beef and pork to keep nails in tip-top shape.

Fruits and berries — especially blueberries, strawberries, and bananas

Eating plenty of fruit in is an easy and delicious way to get lots of nutrients and vitamins in your diet, but did you know these snack favorites are also great for your nails?

In fact, there are lots of all-star fruits you can add to your diet for an easy nutritional boost, as well as for thicker, stronger tips. Some favorites include blueberries, which registered dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade recently discussed with Health magazine.

Palinski-Wade explained, "Antioxidants help protect your body's cells against free radical damage. This damage increases stress hormones and inflammation, which impacts all cells in the body, including those in the hair and nails." Blueberries "have one of the highest antioxidant properties of all fruits." Livestrong also points out that blackberries and grapes are high in antioxidants as well, providing an equally sweet treat for your fingertips.

Other top contenders? Strawberries, and kiwis, which have high levels of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps produce collagen, which naturally makes nails more resilient. Dried apricots and bananas are also good choices as they're rich in vitamin A and B6 respectively, according to Livestrong.

Dark leafy greens including spinach, broccoli, and kale

We won't lecture you on the importance of eating greens on the regular, but here's one more huge reason: They help make your nails, well, tough as nails. Leafy green veggies, including kale, spinach, broccoli, and collard greens provide your body with enough iron, folate, and calcium to get nails back into fighting shape.

"I used to get up in the morning, run four miles. Then I'd go to the gym, do my lift. Then I'd hit balls for two to three hours, I'd go play, come back, work on my short game, I'd go run another four more miles, and then if anyone wanted to play basketball or tennis, I would go play basketball or tennis. That was a daily routine. I'm not doing any of that now."

Cities are throwing hundreds of millions at Amazon to land HQ2 — here’s how they stack up

Jeff Bezos

  • Amazon revealed the top contenders that could land its second headquarters in early 2018.
  • Nine of these cities are offering major economic incentives as part of their bids. Three have said they will not give Amazon any tax breaks.
  • Out of all of these metros, Montgomery, Maryland is proposing the largest incentive package valued at $8.5 billion.

In January, Amazon named 20 North American cities as the top contenders for the future home of the company's second headquarters, dubbed HQ2. The company says HQ2 will bring 50,000 jobs, and late last year launched an open call for city proposals that explain why the e-commerce giant should invest $5 billion in building a campus there.

In addition to offering huge swaths of land, financial incentives have become key parts of bids from many of these metros. A few incentive packages offer tax breaks that total in the billions.

Amazon likely won't pick a city unless it is offering some kind of economic deal, since that was one requirement the company laid out in its request. When Amazon has opened facilities or office spaces in other cities across the US, it has often accepted local subsidies.

From 2005 to 2014, the company received at least $613 million in local government subsidies to build warehouses, according to a 2016 report by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. The group, which pushes for local resources to be dedicated to community development, also found that Amazon received an additional $147 million in subsidies for its data centers.

It's not unusual for large companies to receive government subsidies in return for pledging to increase jobs and economic prosperity in the region (although, that doesn't always happen).

Here are the nine places that have made their HQ2 incentive packages public, in ascending order of monetary value.

9. Raleigh, North Carolina — over $50 million

For HQ2, North Carolina is amping up its main economic incentives program for businesses, known as the Job Development Investment Grant.

Amazon could be reimbursed for up to 100% of the withholding taxes from the new jobs it creates for up to 25 years, The News & Observer reports.

The company would also receive up to $50 million for HQ2's infrastructure like water, sewer and rail access, with the money coming from a reserve account of $80 million in the state’s general fund.

In addition, another program called the One North Carolina Fund could award up to $5,000 per year, per job, for up to five years.

8. Denver, Colorado — $100 million or more

According to The Denver Post, Colorado's proposal named some possible incentives, including the job growth tax credit; job training grants of up to $1,200 per employee; enterprise zone program offering income-tax credits for companies locating in distressed areas; in-state tuition benefits for employees; and local city incentives that every community "under consideration has developed a custom incentive package … to support the build-out of Amazon HQ2."

In an interview with The Post, Sam Bailey, Metro Denver EDC’s vice president of economic development, said incentives could be "in excess of $100 million."

7. Los Angeles, California — $300 million to $1 billion

California's governor's office will offer $300 million to Amazon in tax breaks if it picks a city in the state, Reuters reports. The company listed Los Angeles in the top 20.

But a bill introduced last year in California's state assembly could give the company even more — up to $1 billion in tax breaks over 10 years.
