These are the 10 biggest navies in the world

Since the sea was navigable, it has been contested, and the ability to project strength across oceans is a defining feature of any world power.

The list below, based on data compiled in Global Firepower's 2018 Military Strength Ranking, ranks countries solely by the number of naval assets they have, including support craft, patrol boats, corvettes, destroyers, frigates, and aircraft carriers — the latter of which refers to both traditional carriers and "helicopter carrier" warships.

A few of the countries that made the list are surprising, and represent naval power all over the world. Check out the 10 biggest navies below:

10. Indonesia - 221 ships

The Indonesian archipelago is strategically located between the Pacific and Indian oceans and has 34,000 miles of coastline. It is the world's largest country composed only of islands, of which there are nearly 13,500 — 922 of them permanently inhabited.

Indonesia can field eight frigates, 24 corvettes, three submarines, 74 patrol craft, and 12 mine warfare vessels.

Indonesia is one of a number of countries that have pushed back on China's expansive sea claims in the region and is looking to counter Beijing's increasing naval activity. As of early 2017, it was in talks with several foreign shipbuilders about adding more submarines, and is looking to add eight by 2024. In August 2017, it commissioned its first new attack submarine in in 34 years.

9. Colombia - 234 ships

Colombia is only country in South America that has both Atlantic and Pacific coasts, and its navy has four frigates, one corvette, 11 submarines, and 55 patrol craft.

The country is the world's biggest producer of cocaine, and its armed forces have been heavily involved in drug-interdiction efforts, particularly along the Pacific coast, where the state presence is limited and smuggling activity is rampant.

Colombia also has a sprawling network of rivers, which the only way to reach some areas of the country. Adam Isacson, director of defense oversight at the Washington Office on Latin America, told Business Insider in March that, "80% of Colombia's coca is grown within ... 2 kilometers of a river."

"There's just a hell of a lot of rivers too, but that is a reason why the Pacific coast is so heavily used," he added. "You can just do everything from the coca to the labs to the jumping-off point along a river."

"The United States did help Colombia in the last decade set up a riverine brigade with a lot of these piranha patrol boats that they make themselves. But I don't think that those brigades have grown," Isacson said. "And I think in some areas ... they're plagued by corruption."

8. Finland - 270 ships

Finland borders the Baltic Sea, next to Russia and adjacent to Sweden. Its navy counts 270 naval assets, including eight patrol craft and 18 mine-warfare vessels, in addition to landing craft, transport ships, and other vessels like tugs and cable layers.

Like other countries in Northern and Eastern Europe, Finland has grown increasingly wary of Russian military activity. Finland is not a NATO member, but it has taken part in recent NATO exercises, including a crisis-management exercise in October 2017.

Finland is looking to increase domestic defense spending, and the US State Department recently cleared the sale of $730 million in naval weapons to Helsinki, including ship- and surfaced-launched missiles.

Critics are tearing apart The Rock's new movie 'Rampage,' calling it bland and ludicrous trash

Rampage Warner Bros

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's new monster movie "Rampage," based on the 1980s arcade game, crashes into theaters this weekend, but it will have to fight off some dismal (and hilarious) reviews if it wants to succeed.

Critics aren't being kind to the movie, where Johnson plays primatologist Davis Okoye who has a strong bond with George, an albino silverback gorilla that Okoye rescued as an infant from poachers.

It sounds like a cute friendship — until George is mutated by a chemical and goes on a (you guessed it) rampage. There's also a giant wolf and crocodile.

Business Insider's own Jason Guerrasio said in his review that the movie "is a CGI wonder with little plot and a whole lot of awful cliches and bad dialogue," but Dwayne Johnson's charisma "proves why he's making millions of dollars a movie."

Johnson and co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan seem to be the only silver lining in the movie among critics, but not even they can't save what they call a surprisingly bland monster movie with a horrible, unfocused script.

Check out some of the most scathing "Rampage" reviews below:

"I think it's my duty to tell you that The Rock's latest movie is really, really dumb."

"It’s an empty golem of multiplex entertainment so bland it will make you beg for Michael Bay to direct the sequel."

David Ehrlich, Indiewire

"The objective of the original 8-bit video game was to, while controlling one of three giant monsters (a gorilla, dinosaur or werewolf), reduce a city to rubble. Naturally, a story of such pathos and originality brought Hollywood rushing with a check for millions."

Fast food has existed since ancient Rome — where restaurants sold fish sauce and baked cheese and narrowly survived two emperors

Roman Fast Food Restaurant

Fast food isn't some new-fangled invention. It's been around for centuries, albeit in different forms.

• Ancient Roman fast food joints were called "thermopolia."

• These restaurants had a bad reputation, but they provided fast and cheap meals to the poor of ancient Rome.

Fast food has been around for quite some time.

Even ancient people hankered for a spot where they could swing by and grab a hot meal. For the ancient Romans, that's where thermopolia came in. The word translates to "places where hot drinks are sold."

Historian and "Food and Drink in Antiquity: A Sourcebook: Readings from the Graeco-Roman World" author John Donahue wrote that these restaurants hawked the "ancient equivalent of modern fast food."

Most of the restaurants operated out of small rooms, fronted by large countertops. Some spots also featured small dining areas, but the primary function of the thermopolium (that's the singular version of "thermapolia," if you were wondering) was to sell take-out food

Many Romans didn't have the time or means to prepare meals at home, and came to rely on these ubiquitous eateries.

Take a look at these ancient fast food joints:

The store's countertops were embedded with jars known as "dolia." These stored dried and cold foods that could be distributed to customers or taken out and heated up. Hot meals were served and stored in smaller pots.

Some of the fast food joints were fancier than others. BBC reported that a number of the thermopolia were found to "have decorated back rooms, which may have functioned as dining-rooms."

But historian James Ermatinger wrote that most thermopolia sold food that was "prepared to be eaten on the run rather than sitting down."

Tyler Austin takes off for the mound

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox renewed their rivalry with a good old fashioned brawl on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.

The tension stemmed from a spikes-up slide from Yankees designated hitter Tyler Austin early in the game. When Austin stepped back up to the plate in the seventh, he was hit in the back with a fastball from Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly. Austin slammed his bat into the ground and stormed the mound, prompting both benches to clear in the biggest brawl of the MLB season thus far.

As the scene played out, photographers Maddie Meyer and Charles Krupa captured some amazing photos of the fight.

Immediately after getting beaned, Austin slammed his bat into the ground, breaking the bat on home plate and charging the mound.

Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez did his best to hold Austin back, but he escaped to meet Joe Kelly in the center of the diamond.

Austin was ready to grapple, as Kelly took a more defensive stance.

Costco offers some of the best deals in the retail industry — here are 7 ways the store keeps prices dirt cheap (COST)

  • Costco's membership deals are a crucial part of why its prices are so low — but that's not the only reason why Costco is so cheap.
  • The retailer's business model depends on its ability to offer dirt-cheap prices on everything from golf balls to toilet paper.
  • Costco uses strategies including cutting advertising, limiting stock, and building up its private Kirkland brand to keep prices uber-low.

Costco has gained an army of followers by keeping costs as low as possible.

Hot dogs cost just $1.50 at the in-store café. Rotisserie chickens have cost $4.99 since 2009. Wine costs 20% less than most wine stores, meaning customers save $5 to $12 on every bottle.

Costco has built a business model that depends on offering customers the lowest prices possible. The retailer doesn't need to advertise — news of its fantastic deals spreads simply through word of mouth.

"When I started, Sears, Roebuck was the Costco of the country, but they allowed someone else to come in under them," Costco's co-founder Jim Sinegal told The New York Times in 2005. "We don't want to be one of the casualties. We don't want to turn around and say, 'We got so fancy we've raised our prices,' and all of a sudden a new competitor comes in and beats our prices."

While offering the best deals possible is good business for Costco, keeping prices low is often easier said than done. Costco has a growing number of competitors in the bargain retail space, including Walmart, dollar stores, and discount grocery chains like Aldi and Trader Joe's.

However, Costco is still managing to beat out the competition. In 2017, the company reported $126.2 billion in revenue, a 9% increase from the prior year, when it reported $116.1 billion in revenue.

Here are seven strategies Costco uses to keep prices low and save customers money:

SEE ALSO: Costco is inspiring tech CEOs like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg in one key way

Not advertising

Because Costco keeps costs so low, the company operates with thin profit margins. Costco saves an estimated 2% a year in costs by not advertising, allowing the company to reinvest that money in slashing prices.

"One of the keys to Costco's success, and its profitability, is that the company spends next to nothing on advertising," Tim Green wrote in finance blog The Motley Fool. "Other than sending out direct mail to prospective members, and sending coupons to existing members, Costco does no traditional marketing at all."

Limiting the number of items sold

According to Costco, an average warehouse carries about 4,000 products compared to the 30,000 found in most supermarkets. A supercenter can sell up to 100,000 products.

By only stocking a handful of toothpaste brands, as opposed to the plethora you can find at most stores, suppliers are forced to compete with each other to win a place on Costco's shelves. And, suppliers want to make the cut — because there are only a few options, customers end up buying a lot of the brands that Costco decides to stock.

Costco name-checks its "tremendous buying power" as key to its low prices on the company's website.

"By carefully choosing products based on quality, price, brand, and features, the company can offer the best value to members," the website states.

No-frills design

With concrete floors, tall stacks of merchandise, and a sprawling, often-windowless design, Costco warehouses aren't trying to provide customers with an aesthetically pleasing experience. And, by focusing on efficiency over value, they can save customers money.

Costco doesn't have to redesign stores to keep up with trends. The company doesn't even need to hire workers to unpack boxes — products are purchased in bulk and then placed directly on warehouse shelves, with little attention to aesthetics.

Flight attendants share 12 of their most bizarre passenger stories

flight attendant

  • Flight attendants have seen their share of crazy encounters with passengers.
  • One woman told her son to go to the bathroom on the floor of the plane because he "couldn't relax in the tiny bathroom."
  • Some passengers have mistaken the cockpit for the lavatory.

Crazy stories go hand in hand with a career in aviation — and none are more shocking than these about unruly passengers.

A naked man tried to test the limits

On a flight to Hong Kong, a flight attendant informed the pilot, Dan Boland, that a passenger had taken off all his clothes and was sitting buck naked in his seat. Boland instructed the flight attendant to tell the passenger he'd be arrested if he didn't get dressed at once. The passenger called their bluff, waiting until landing to get dressed. Although he wasn't arrested, we don't suggest trying this yourself.

Nice guys, but do we need to see that?

Reddit contributor hubberbubber recalls a story his pilot father told him about the time he was flying an Australian rugby team back to Australia after a championship match. "They rented out the entirety of first class, and the moment the flight reached cruising altitude, stripped down to their boxers." Apparently, they were some of the most polite passengers hubberbubber's dad had ever seen — albeit almost naked.

There seems to be an emotional support slippery slope

A former pilot, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells "Reader's Digest" of a passenger who brought his emotional support dog on the plane. So far, so good, right? The thing was, the emotional support dog, a sturdy German Shepherd, required his own emotional support dog: a fluffy toy poodle mix. This was, of course, unprecedented ... and, therefore, permissible. Don't miss these ridiculous requests people have actually made on airplanes

22 signs your coworkers secretly hate you

$

woman upset sad scared lonely thinking

  • Odds are, you're not going to get along perfectly with every single one of your coworkers.
  • But sometimes, you'll run into a colleague who just seems to have it out for you.
  • Signs your coworkers secretly hate you include never maintaining eye contact with you and always excluding you from office banter.

Haters are going to hate, right?

In our personal lives, it's easier to dismiss people who don't like us. But at work, being widely disliked can pose a larger problem.

Lynn Taylor, a national workplace expert and the author of "Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behavior and Thrive in Your Job," said:

"Most coworkers won't overtly show their disdain for you so as not to cause trouble or jeopardize their own careers. They may make life difficult for you, but they'll probably try to stay under the radar. Still, there are subtle red flags that they're not out for your best interests."

You'll want to know those signs, says Taylor, so you can spot them when they're present and turn things around before it's too late.

"Of course, it's impossible to be liked by everyone in the office," she said.

But you should always strive to be sensitive to the needs of your fellow coworkers, remain upbeat and friendly, communicate openly, and give colleagues the benefit of the doubt.

"Those who do this have a far brighter career future," she said. "Plus, when [we] have strong, healthy workplace relationships, you will be more effective and accomplished in your job."

Michael Kerr, an international business speaker and author of "The Humor Advantage," agreed.

"When your coworkers like you, everything becomes easier," he said. "People have your back when you need it the most, you can ask for and get favors more easily, people will volunteer to help in times of need, and you can get far better cooperation even across departments."

Being well-liked will boost your morale, which in turn will make you more productive, focused, creative, and successful in everything you do, he said.

Here are 22 subtle signs that your coworkers secretly hate you. But keep in mind that you may just be misreading their body language or tone — the workplace is certainly not immune to human misunderstanding and no one's a mind reader.

DON'T MISS: 25 signs you have a terrible boss

Your gut tells you they don't like you

If you feel like your coworkers don't like you, then it could just be in your head, but it could also be true. If they treat you differently than everyone else, then you're probably not their favorite person. Trust your gut and continue looking for other signs if you have a strong feeling about this.

They don't smile when you're around

We're not talking about the occasional bad day or mood swing. If your coworkers make a conscious effort not to smile when you're in the room, then something isn't right.

They can't maintain eye contact with you

It's difficult to look someone straight in the eye when you don't like or respect them, says Taylor. If you notice that your colleagues avoid eye contact while speaking with you, then those are probably the reasons.

"They're afraid that you may be able to detect hostility, so the path of least resistance is for them to look away or avoid being around you wherever possible," Taylor said.

Five Guys franchisees founded a grilled-cheese shop that's ready to go national — here's what it's like

Melt Shop 15

  • Melt Shop is a grilled-cheese restaurant chain founded by a large Five Guys franchise group.
  • The chain itself is looking to expand into franchising.
  • The food is good quality, albeit a tad on the pricey side.

April 12 is a very special day: National Grilled Cheese Day.

And where better to grab one than a "grilled cheeserie"? Now that grilled cheese concept Melt Shop has comfortably ensconced itself in Manhattan, it's looking to expand — mostly targeting malls, which is an interesting move given the uncertain future of food courts.

Yet the chain's parent company, Aurify Brands, is no stranger to scaling up. With a massive Five Guys franchise group in New York, Melt Shop has some serious experience behind it. The chain recently announced a push towards franchising as it looks to expand its footprint in the States.

Melt Shop has four locations in Manhattan — plus four more nationwide —  so I decided to head over to one to see if the chain has what it takes to scale up across America.

SEE ALSO: We tried spicy chicken sandwiches from every major fast-food chain — and the winner is obvious

ALSO READ: Wawa is giving away free coffee — we visited and discovered why it's the greatest convenience store chain in America

There are four Melt Shops in NYC, one on Long Island, and one upstate — I'm visiting the 26th Street store location.

Most of the shops are cozy affairs — low on space but well organized and clean.

The menu is fairly simple. There are 11 sandwich options ranging from the classic grilled cheese to a packed turkey club, as well as several sides including the traditional tomato soup. Interestingly, the menus differ slightly at some locations, so what you see here may not be all that's available. Not sure if the "artisanal" sobriquet fits, but we'll see.

Ten_Most_Wanted_—_FBI

The FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list is constantly changing. On April 12, the bureau added a new name.

The 10 men on the list today are wanted for murder, racketeering, and theft. The FBI is offering $100,000 rewards for information leading to their arrest — and details on one man are worth up to $20 million.

People drop off the list if they are captured, dismissed of criminal charges, or no longer fit the FBI's description as someone with "a lengthy record of committing serious crimes and/or considered a particularly dangerous menace to society."

When vacancies exist, the Criminal Investigative Division of the FBI asks its various field offices around the country to submit nominations for prospective additions. FBI executives ultimately approve who makes the top 10.

Here's who is on the list and how they got there.

The Bureau says Fisher is physically fit, and has a noticeable gold crown on his upper left first bicuspid tooth.

"He may walk with an exaggerated erect posture and his chest pushed out due to a lower back injury."

Fisher can be seen walking and carrying one of his children before committing the alleged massacre in this very grainy video from 2001.

Flores is wanted for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia.

She was reported missing in July of 2000, and later found strangled to death in a nearby apartment that August.

He has scars on his right cheek and forehead, according to the FBI.

Brown is wanted on charges of murder and armed robbery in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2004, he allegedly shot and killed an armored-car guard outside a movie theater and then fled with the money.

Brown, a Mormon, speaks fluent French and has a masters degree in international business.

He "enjoys being the center of attention and has been known to frequent nightclubs where he enjoys showing off his high-priced vehicles, boats, and other toys," according to the FBI.

Amid the tech landscape, "unicorns" are few and far between. Last year, CB Insights tallied the odds of becoming a unicorn — a company valued at $1 billion or more — at under 1%.

But already, within the first few months of 2018, a total of 16 companies have overcome those odds and crossed the billion-dollar-valuation mark. These companies, originally rounded up in a recent report by Pitchbook, are working to transform industries like transportation, medicine, entertainment, data analysis, and farming.

While most of the companies that reached unicorn status are in the US, China was a notable contender with four companies making the list, and Romania celebrated its first unicorn to date — a robotic-automation company called UI Path.

Here's the full roundup of 2018's freshly minted unicorns:

Canva is an Australian company that provides graphic designers with an intuitive platform.

Nearly 1,000 Russian trolls were banned from Reddit — here's what they were posting about

Reddit, magnifying glass, stock image

  • Nearly 1,000 Russian trolls were banned from Reddit after it was discovered they were working for the same Putin-funded company that was accused of election meddling on Facebook.
  • Reddit decided to leave the accounts and their content online for "a period of time," to give Redditors a chance to look through the posts themselves.
  • Among the 944 accounts, there is lots of fake news, political memes, and Hillary Clinton bashing, but there are also quite a few surprises.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced Tuesday that the forum-based site had identified and banned nearly 1,000 accounts linked to a Putin-funded Russian troll farm that was indicted by a grand jury for interfering in the 2016 US election in favor of Donald Trump, according to the office of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Reddit has chosen to give users a chance to see the Russian-affiliated content for themselves, by providing a link to a full list of the suspicious accounts, including their full content history. The accounts will be fully removed from Reddit "after a period of time," according to Huffman.

Business Insider looked through many of the banned accounts' content and found lots of what you'd expect from a politically-motivated Russian troll, along with lots of surprises.

It's important to note that among the breadth of content there were countless racist, sexist, and otherwise too offensive memes, images and other posts to publish here, but we've compiled a few highlights that we think are representative of the batch as a whole.

Heads up: We've done our best not to include any disturbing or inflammatory posts (there were many), but some of the following aren't particularly family-friendly.

Take a look:

These examples are taken from the top 20 most influential accounts, meaning the 20 with the most Reddit "karma" points.

You can click through any of these images to see the original posts on the subreddit in which they originally appeared--at least, until Reddit eventually takes them all off the site.

As expected, unflattering depictions of Hillary Clinton were common on many of the banned accounts, including this one posted to a controversial subreddit called "The Donald."

Popular memes like this one were incorporated into many of the political sentiments.

Nordstrom men's

  • Nordstrom opened its first menswear-only store in New York City on Thursday.
  • The store combines in-store services such as tailoring, shoe shining, and food, with high-tech digital ordering and returns systems.
  • Co-president Blake Nordstrom acknowledged that the industry is in a period of change as retailers shutter stores and shopping shifts online, but told Business Insider that the company has a "real opportunity to do this right" with its new store.

Nordstrom is going against the grain and opening stores in prime neighborhoods of Manhattan while other retailers close their doors. On Thursday, it opened its first menswear-only store near Columbus Circle, a block from Central Park.

"We've been looking for a store in Manhattan for 20 to 30 years," Blake Nordstrom, co-president of Nordstrom, told Business Insider at the store opening. Blake Nordstrom explained that previous locations had fallen through in the past. This time, they "got lucky," he said. "This the best place to be."

The new store, which is positioned next to a TJ Maxx — a direct competitor of Nordstrom's successful off-price chain, Nordstrom Rack — is seeking to be ahead of the curve in a sector that is evolving at a rapid rate. It does so by offering a wide range of services, such as tailoring and shoe shining, in-store.

A womenswear store will join it across the street in the fall of 2019, though these are the only stores of their kind the company has planned.

In recent years, Nordstrom's e-commerce platform and its off-price stores have outshined its full-price stores, where same-store sales numbers have steadily declined since 2014.

"We think there is a real opportunity if we do this right with all the change taking place," Blake Nordstrom said. "Retail is obviously changing, it's always changing. That's the nature of fashion."

The challenge now is to incorporate the success of its e-commerce platform into its stores.

"The level of transparency you have for fashion — where you can buy it, where you return it — has never been greater. You're really in control as the customer. As merchants, we need to have that functionality, that capability, otherwise, literally in seconds you can go somewhere else," he said.

Analysts say the company is well-poised to capitalize on the difficulties retailers are facing currently.

"If everyone is retrenching from physical store presence, that is the time to expand," Ivan Feinseth, chief investment officer at Tigress Financial Partners, who has a "buy" position on Nordstrom, told Business Insider. "Especially if you have a good like this to do it."

The 47,000-square-foot store is located near Columbus Circle in Manhattan, New York.

Across the way, there are signs informing shoppers of its next location for womenswear, which opens in the fall of 2019.

Blake Nordstrom told Business Insider that the company initially had plans to open a men's and women's store in the same building.

"We felt we didn't have enough space to do everything we wanted to," he said. "We wanted to be able to give men's the selection it deserves."

As soon as we walked in, the heavy concentration of sales assistants was obvious. "The men's market is underserved," Feinseth said. "And it's growing; millennials are focusing more on clothes."

There was a men's "fragrances and grooming" section at the front of the store. An entire wall was stocked with Le Labo fragrances. A 100ml bottle of these fragrances costs $270.

  • MONEY magazine compared America's fast-food chains based on the dining experience and the average cost of a combo meal.
  • The fast-food chains featured have over 300 locations nationwide and offer good-value food.
  • The Californian chain In-N-Out Burger ranked in first place with an average rating of 4.67 out of 5.

Fast food chains keep America running. Whether loading up on snacks during a on road trips or grabbing a quick lunch, most of us still have go-to burger and fried chicken joints that keep us coming back for more.

But even a cheap lunch should be good enough to deserve your money. So which are the best fast food chains for your money? I set out to evaluate the top chains and determine whether, say, the iconic Golden Arches could stand up to newer chains like Chick-fil-A when it comes to value.

To start, I identified the pool of contenders: I wanted chains with over 300 locations nationwide that serve cheap eats without the hassle of a sit-down experience. Among those, I asked my MONEY colleagues to rate their recent dining experiences — and then ranked them by factoring in both the average cost of a combo meal and the level of customer experience.

Without further ado, here are the results: the top 25 fast-food chains for your money:

Since Liu Yifei was first announced as the titular heroine in November, more information has slowly become available.

The 1998 animated film follows Mulan as she disguises herself as a man to take the place of her father in an effort to defeat the Huns.

The live-action adaption will be directed by Niki Caro ("The Zookeeper's Wife") and is set to hit theaters March 27, 2020.

We'll continue to update this post as more cast members are announced. But for now, here's who will be in the movie and who they are playing.

Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, is playing the titular heroine, Mulan.

Fans were thrilled with her casting. She recently starred alongside Emile Hirsch in "The Chinese Widow."

11 great shows you should watch if you love 'The Walking Dead'

rick walking dead season 8

AMC's "The Walking Dead" is wrapping up season eight. And if you're looking for something to watch as you wait for more of Richonne, Negan's ego-boosting monologues, and Daryl grunting, we have you covered.

Whether you're looking for a bit of horror, action, or just want another show about the undead, INSIDER has put together the ultimate list of new and old shows to keep you busy through the show's return this fall. The list consists of shows I watch, serious fellow "Walking Dead" fans view, and data from TV tracking app TV Time about shows fans are likely to watch.

While you anxiously await Rick and the gang to return, here's what you should watch in the meantime.

1. "Fear the Walking Dead" (AMC)

What it's about: It's "The Walking Dead" spin-off you either already watch or chose to ignore entering its fourth season. It follows an entirely different group of people in a different location.

Do I need to watch "The Walking Dead" to start watching this? If you're just joining the show during it's fourth season, no! The first two episodes feel like an entire new series. Having some background is nice, but you won't be lost.

Why to watch: If you've been invested in "The Walking Dead," you'll want to tune into the first episode of "Fear's" fourth season. It's completely centered around Lennie James' Morgan who is leaving "TWD" for the spin-off.

Also, Colman Domingo who plays Victor Strand may become one of your new favorite TV crushes.

Where to watch: Hulu

2. "Game of Thrones" (HBO)

What it's about: Jon Snow! Sex! Dragons! The many houses of Westeros fight for control of the Iron Throne, but eventually need to align for survival against an army of the undead.

Why to watch: The zombies on "The Walking Dead" seem tame compared to the vicious wights and white walkers of HBO's hit. If you haven't read the books and have been lucky enough to avoid spoilers, the season one finale will wreck you.

Even "The Walking Dead" cast and crew love to watch "Game of Thrones." Jeffrey Dean Morgan has shared fan art mashing the two shows together with his showmance Norman Reedus. Executive producer and makeup supervisor Greg Nicotero told INSIDER he's a big fan of how the undead look on the show.

Where to watch: HBO Go

3. "The 100" (The CW)

What it's about: Years after civilization on Earth is destroyed, mankind is living out their days in space. When resources start to become scarce, 100 prisoners are sent back to Earth to see if its livable. It turns out, not everyone actually perished after the nuclear apocalypse and that's where things start to get interesting.

Why to watch: I can't tell you how many times fellow "Walking Dead" fans have told me to watch this show. At this point, I'm just convinced this is a staple watch of "The Walking Dead" family because it's also about a group of people trying to survive after the end of the world.

If you were a big fan of "Lost," the show stars Henry Ian Cusick who played fan favorite Desmond on the ABC series.

Where to watch: Netflix

There's only one women's prison in Israel — and a photographer documented the inmates in harrowing detail

Women's prison_Tomer_Ifrah 015

  • There is only one women's prison in Israel — Neve Tirza.
  • Just over 200 inmates call the prison home, and many of them languish in overcrowded cells and receive little care from guards.
  • Jews, Muslims, and Christians share cells together, as do first-time offenders and veteran inmates.

There are more than 20,000 prisoners and detainees in Israel.

Just 1% of them are women, and they're all housed at a single prison — Neve Tirza.

Located in the central Israeli town of Ramla, about 15 miles southeast of Tel Aviv, Neve Tirza is home for just over 200 female inmates. Opened in 1968, Neve Tirza is the only women's prison in Israel, and Jews, Muslims, and Christians live alongside each other in its tight, overcrowded cells.

Israel photographer Tomer Ifrah made several visits to Neve Tirza in 2013 and documented the isolation and claustrophobia shared by many of the inmates there. His images put human faces on a facility that had previously been accused of inhumane treatment of its prisoners, including physical abuse and a lack of proper medical care.

He also discovered that female prisoners in Israel face a unique stigma when they try to re-enter society, leading many of them to wind up back in prison. You can check out more of Ifrah's work at his website and his Instagram account.

Keep reading to take a look inside Neve Tirza.

31 celebrities who found success later in life

celebrity late bloomers

Some celebrities are born famous, but the most fascinating ones are the stars who take years to get there.

Tiffany Haddish may be the breakout star of the moment, but that's only because she had years of comedy work behind her before starring in "Girls Trip." And Judi Dench and Morgan Freeman may seem to have been in every classy movie for decades, but Freeman wasn't famous until he was 52, and Dench until she was 60.

Here are 31 celebrity late bloomers.

Tiffany Haddish was 37 when she starred in "Girls Trip."

Haddish spent years struggling in the Los Angeles comedy scene — even spending some time homeless— before she landed roles in shows like "If Loving You Is Wrong" and "The Carmichael Show." But it wasn't until 2017 that she received a slew of awards and multiple magazine covers because of her role as Dina in "Girls Trip."

Samuel L. Jackson was in his 40s when he became an A-list movie star.

Jackson had a background in social activism before turning to acting in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly getting small roles in theater and in movies. His career started blowing up when he worked with Spike Lee, first in "School Daze" and then "Do the Right Thing."

In 1991, when he was 43, Jackson got serious critical attention for playing "Gator" in Lee's "Jungle Fever" and then leaped to the A-list with "Pulp Fiction" in 1994.

Now he's made more money at the box office than any other actor alive, according to Business Insider.

Julia Child was 49 before she changed cooking in America.

Child worked as a chef (and a World War II spy) for years before publishing, with Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in 1961.

Reviews hailed it as a masterpiece and it became a bestseller, changing the way Americans cooked at home. Child was a reliable presence on television for the rest of her life and published more cooking books and memoirs.
