15 real people share their secrets to a long-lasting relationship

$

jim pam the officeThere's no denying it— relationships are hard work. But, when you find someone you want to be with long-term, all that hard work becomes infinitely worth it.

When you find the right partner, showing up for each other is key. "You need to look for the random acts of consideration and kindness," psychologist Nikki Martinez tells Bustle. "These are the things that will last you. For example, my toilet paper and paper towels have been magically refilled since a month into dating my husband."

Whether you're single, just beginning a relationship or years in, everyone wants to know the secret to staying happy with someone. It's important to remember that you never see the whole picture when looking at other people's relationships, making it easy to forget the hard work they've put into it.

Sometimes they're willing to share their words of wisdom, luckily these individuals in long-term relationships shared what they do to make it work.

1. "It's really important that we continue to go out of our way for the other."

"We work hard to dedicate time to doing things together because, even though we live together and technically get to see each other every day, it's really important that we continue to go out of our way for the other."— Ilana

2. "... We both understand the importance of independence and nurturing our personal lives."

"My boyfriend and I give each other a respectful amount of space to live our lives as young adults while still remaining in a committed relationship. Whenever he wants to hang out with his friends, I try not to give him a hard time. And, he always encourages me to go out with my friends and have a good time. While we love each other and try to spend ample amount of time together, we both understand the importance of independence and nurturing our personal lives." — Nediva

3. "A break once in a while is healthy."

"A break once in a while is healthy. If we spent every minute of the day together, after 18 years, we would be exhausted. My husband and I joke all of the time that we could never work together because all of the time together would be too much.

"Don't get stressed or worried if you find yourself watching television in the bedroom by yourself at night while your partner is in the living room. Little breaks like this are necessary and healthy. It keeps things light and fresh. And even though my husband and I are soulmates, we still have different interests. I don't like any of his television shows and he doesn't like mine, so we don't mind spending time in separate rooms once in awhile watching what we like. It's okay."— Sophia

8 things to consider when deciding between job offers

$

job interview work coworkers

Receiving too many job offers is the best problem to have. If you're in a position where multiple opportunities have come your way, here are the factors you need to consider to avoid workplace woes and find the best fit.

A longer commute may not be worth more money.

A 2017 study found that "each extra minute of commuting time reduces both job and leisure time satisfaction…increases strain and worsens mental health for workers."

The study did reveal, however, that those who walked or biked to work were immune from these commuting pitfalls. It's also worth noting that a large pay raise could outweigh the strains of a longer commute.

But, in general, it seems an extra-long commute can be dangerous to your overall health.

Hidden costs and benefit packages should play a part.

Obviously, money is a factor. If two jobs are identical except one has a higher salary, it's a no-brainer. But that's not usually the case. Some other non-salary factors to consider are additional out-of-state taxes, reaching a new tax bracket, benefit packages, and hidden costs like transportation and daycare.

Flexibility might be important to you.

A 2018 Deloitte Millennial Survey found that those born from 1981 to 1996 most value an appropriate salary and a higher degree of workplace flexibility.

To achieve the coveted work-life balance, millennials have found the key to be finding flexible positions. This can mean avoiding the dated 9-to-5 schedule, working remotely, or adjusting the guidelines and tasks of their position to fit the company's needs.

If these options are available to you, working can feel less rigid and more valuable.

baskin robbins

When a craving for something sweet hits you, it’s possible that you may not even think about how much sugar you're consuming.

Unfortunately, excessive sugar consumption can increase our risk for heart disease, according to Harvard Medical School.

To rank the popular fast-food desserts with the most sugar, we pulled the top 24 from this list we made of 249 fast-food desserts with more sugar than your recommended daily amount. All nutrition information was gathered directly from each restaurant’s official website: Arby’s, Baskin Robbins, Burger King, Carl’s Jr., Chick-fil-A, Culver’s, Dairy Queen, Del Taco, Domino’s, Hardee’s, Jack In The Box, KFC, McDonald’s, Popeye’s, Smashburger, Sonic, Starbucks, and Whataburger.

Here are the 24 top fast-food desserts with the most sugar, ranked.

24. Jack in the Box’s chocolate shake with whipped topping also comes in at 88 grams of sugar but has 800 calories.

It has slightly fewer calories than the OREO layered sundae.

23. Baskin Robbins OREO layered sundae has 88 grams of sugar and 930 calories.

If grams is too difficult to picture, four grams is equal to a level teaspoon, according to the MSU Extension. In other words, this sundae contains 22 teaspoons of sugar.

21. and 22. (TIE) Sonic’s blue raspberry with rainbow candy slush and orange with rainbow candy slushes both have 90 grams of sugar and just 35 milligrams of sodium.

Both come in at 350 calories apiece, as well — which is more reasonable for a dessert, even if that sugar level is high.

The best beard trimmers you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

beard trimmer 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • A decent beard trimmer should be precise, versatile, and easy to use. Of all the beard trimmers we researched, the Wahl Lithium Ion Plus is the best because it is well designed, precise, and easy to use.

A good beard trimmer can be the difference between a scruffy, unkempt look, or a neat, tidy, and clean one. While some beard trimmers will require lots of work to ensure that the hair is all even and trimmed, good ones will properly cut all the hair after just a few passes.

Of course, there are plenty of beard trimmers out there, and they’re not all that great. That’s why we’ve done the work for you, and put together this guide to the best ones.

There are a few things you should consider before buying a beard trimmer. After all, different people have different beards and styles, and you might even be looking for something that you can use for other hair, too. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Corded or cordless: Each beard trimmer you run into will fall into one of two categories: It’ll either be corded or cordless. There are advantages to both. Corded trimmers don’t require you to charge up or replace batteries, while cordless ones don’t require a power outlet and are more portable.
  • Attachments: Beard trimmers often come with a range of attachments, and how you want to use your beard trimmer could dictate the attachments you need. You’ll want to think about how long your beard is, along with whether you want to use the trimmer for other hair – like the hair on the top of your head.
  • Waterproofing: Some people prefer to do their shaving in the shower to make for an easier cleanup, or to simply wash their trimmer under the tap after shaving. If that’s you, you’ll want to ensure you’re getting a waterproof device.

Here are our picks for the best beard trimmers you can buy:

Updated on 08/29/2018 by Kyle Schurman: Removed out of stock items, added a pick, and updated formatting.

Read on in the slides below to check out our top picks.

The best beard trimmer overall

Why you'll love it: The Wahl Lithium Ion Plus is pretty sleek and stylish, but the best thing about it is that it’s super reliable and has a ton of attachments.

The Wahl Lithium Ion Plus has stood the test of time as one of the most-loved beard trimmers, thanks to its reliability and the huge range of accessories and attachments that the trimmer comes with.

The Lithium Ion Plus has attachments to trim your beard, and style it as precisely as possible. It even has a nose and ear hair attachment. On top of that, it has a hefty 12 combs for different hair lengths and different styles, along with a power adapter and tools to clean the device. It even has a travel-plug, which you can put in the power input, and will prevent the trimmer from turning on should the button be pressed while it’s in your suitcase.

This cordless beard trimmer is among the few trimmers used by professionals, and for good reason. It’s cordless, meaning that its super portable and easy to swing around, and that can come in handy.

So what about the downsides? Well, you’ll want to be careful with how much water it’s exposed to, as some users have noted a little rust after longer periods of time, and the running water can cause the blades to wear out quicker. Because of that, cleaning the device can take some time, as you’ll have to use the included brush.

Pros: Lots of attachments, reliable, versatile

Cons: Cleaning can be a pain

Buy the Wahl Lithium Ion Plus on Amazon for $51.99 (originally $69.99)

The best beard trimmer that also works on body hair

Why you'll love it: The Philips Norelco OneBlade Face & Body Hybrid has a high level of versatility for all types of facial hair styling you want to do.

When you’re looking for less of an electric shaver and more of an electric groomer, the Philips OneBlade Face & Body Hybrid tool has a lot of advantages.

The OneBlade Face & Body Hybrid has multiple attachments, each of which is designed to remove or trim hair from a particular part of the body, including your beard, of course. You can set the attachments to cut hair to a certain height, allowing for customization.

It comes with four stubble combs, 1 body comb, and a skin guard attachment for shaving sensitive areas. It's a cordless trimmer with a battery life of about 60 minutes. You'll want to recharge it when the battery starts to run low. The blades are replaceable, but they should last 3-4 months before you need to buy new ones.

In its write-up, Trusted Reviews says the OneBlade is a hybrid between a beard trimmer and an electric razor, so you get the best of both worlds. The reviewer at Tools of Men was also impressed with the Philips Norelco OneBlade, saying it does all types of grooming easily without causing individual hairs to become stuck. The electric shaver oscillates the head back and forth quickly to cut facial and body hair the way you want it cut.

Buyers review it very highly, too. One Amazon reviewer who goes by the name FoilCharacter likes the OneBlade Face & Body Hybrid shaver because of its versatility, but says you should not expect an easy or fast clean shave with it — it's best for beard trimming and customized looks. — Kyle Schurman

Pros: Handy tool that can perform a multitude of grooming functions, shaver head clips hairs precisely instead of pulling on them painfully, reasonable price point, good for those who change facial hair styles often

Cons: Not really made for people who want to be clean shaven most of the time, plastic in shaver heads may not last over time

Buy the Philips Norelco OneBlade Face & Body Hybrid Electric Razor on Amazon for $49.95

The best compact beard trimmer

Why you'll love it: The Wahl Peanut is relatively inexpensive, pretty compact, and portable, making it great for those on the go.

Wahl doesn’t just make full-sized beard trimmers with a ton of attachments — It also makes slightly more compact trimmers that might be better for those who travel a lot. The best of those is the Wahl Peanut, which is compact, and relatively inexpensive.

There are a few ways that Wahl has cut down on the size here. It switched to a wired form-factor, which eliminates the need for a battery. On top of that, it’s been made ultra-portable in that there are far fewer attachments and accessories. You only get four combs, a cleaning brush, and guard.

We aren’t the only ones that like the Wahl Peanut. Most buyers do, too, and that’s reflected in the 4.5-star average on Amazon. Still, even with that rating it does have a few downsides, namely, cleaning. You'll want to be careful during cleaning and make ample use of the included brush rather than putting it under water.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, compact, portable

Cons: Difficult to clean, not a ton of attachments

Buy the Wahl Peanut on Amazon for $42.19 (originally $59.74)

  • Roger Federer is the highest-paid male tennis player with career winnings topping $117.5 million.
  • Both players are competing at the US Open in New York this week where the female and male singles champions will each receive $3.8 million.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer are the highest-paid female and male tennis players of all time — though there's a more than $31 million difference in their total career earnings.

This week, both players are competing at the US Open in New York City. In 1973, the US Open became the first tennis tournament to award equal prize money to men and women. This year the men's and women's singles champions will each be awarded $3.8 million, a $100,000 increase from last year's top prize and the largest in the Grand Slam tournament's history. The runners-up will each receive $1.85 million.

That's a nice payday in and of itself, but most of the high-ranking players are also locked into endorsements with top sports and luxury brands, banking multiple times their on-court earnings in any given year.

Below, we take a look at the 30 highest-paid tennis players of all time, based on on-the-court winnings. While the list is skewed towards recent players, it's a mix of both men and women, as well as current players and all-time greats.

Data is from the ATP and WTA tours. Doubles and and mixed-doubles earnings are included in total career prize money, but are not included in the number of titles won.

7 health benefits of the keto diet that have nothing to do with weight loss

mindy project eating meat

There's no denying the popularity surrounding the ketogenic diet, and it's easy to understand why. This low-carb approach to dieting guarantees speedy — and, sometimes, long-term — weight loss.

But shedding a few pounds isn't the only perk from taking on the keto diet. Below are some of the non-weight benefits that one can expect when they follow the keto diet.

The keto diet can have healing effects on your brain.

"High-fat ketogenic diets have healing properties for brain conditions like neurodegenerative diseases and epilepsy,"Dr. Luiza Petre, a board-certified cardiologist, told INSIDER.

She added that a consistent intake of fats from a keto diet will also have a powerful impact on your endorphin levels and mood.

The diet can be used as a treatment protocol for diabetes.

"More and more evidence is supporting the ketogenic diet's use as a treatment protocol for diabetes,"Monica Auslander Moreno, a nutrition consultant for RSP Nutrition, told INSIDER.

But what does this mean? Well, as Moreno explained, a ketogenic diet drastically reduces carbohydrate intake and, therefore, the necessity for so much insulin. As a result, it can quiet the body's insulinemic response.

The keto diet can help regulate hunger and craving control.

According to the New York Times, eating foods with a high glycemic index — including most processed carbohydrates — can cause a dramatic rise and fall in blood sugar levels, which can stimulate hunger.

Since the keto diet is low-carb, Mindy Body Green reports that following it can stabilize blood sugar levels and, thus, suppress your appetite.

3 mistakes I made when I started my company that I'll never make again

company

  • Starting a business can feel like a daunting task, especially the first time around.
  • There are a multitude of challenges to starting a business, and slip-ups like overworking and not tracking your financials can cost you greatly.
  • Author Laura McCamy is a two-time entrepreneur who made costly mistakes with her first company that she made sure to avoid with her second company.

I've run my own small businesses for most of my adult life. First, I was an artist and craftsperson (making jewelry, clocks, and, ultimately, my own line of printed clothing) for more than 20 years.

After I closed that business, I started a second enterprise as a freelance writer in 2013. The start of my two businesses couldn't have been more different.

Though I am grateful for everything I learned from my first business, I definitely didn't want to do things the same way the second time around.

Here are the mistakes I made when I started my first company:

SEE ALSO: 9 things productive people do before noon

1. I chose to do something because I thought I could make a lot of money, not because it was my passion

What I did the first time: When I moved to San Francisco, I met people who made their livings selling jewelry and pottery to tourists at Fisherman's Wharf. They had fantastic days where they made hundreds of dollars selling their art on folding tables.

I thought this would be a great way for me to make money, although crafts was not an intuitive choice for me. I liked art, but I was terrible at drawing. Soon I found myself making jewelry inspired by my paintings of San Francisco's landmarks and fantastical cats.

I never hit the jackpot that I'd imagined was waiting for me as a craftsperson, but I stuck with the business for the long term because making art fed my soul. Over time, I became much better at drawing, though it still doesn't come easy to me.

My learning curve was incredibly steep, though, and that cost me when I initially started my business. It took me years to go from clumsy amateur to skilled artist. As a writer, I was able to move very quickly out of the novice phase, because writing comes naturally to me.

What I did the second time: I have wanted to be a writer ever since I learned to read. In 2013, I quit the job I had taken after closing my crafts company and went to work full time as a freelance writer. Within a few years, my writing business became more financially successful than my crafts business ever was. I went from a green newcomer to a skilled writer very quickly, because I am doing the work that I was meant to do (and spent many years training for, from starting a neighborhood newspaper at age 10 to my college major in English and creative writing).

Find the thing you were meant to do, and you'll find the best starting point for your business.

2. I didn't have a clear understanding of my business financials

What I did first: As my crafts business, grew, I pulled money from my retirement savings to pay for equipment and raw materials. I had a gambler's confidence that, any day now, my art would start selling like hotcakes.

It wasn't until I had been in business several years that I took business classes at an incubator called Women's Initiative and learned to track my income and expenses. Within a few years, I was able to predict my business income and plan big purchases at the right time in my cash flow. I saved money from my high-earning months to pay myself in my off-season.

What I did the second time: I didn't make much money in my first year as a freelance writer. That year was my apprenticeship: I freelanced for a local online newspaper that couldn't pay much but gave me a chance to build my portfolio and learn the business. But I had saved up enough from several years of working an office job to get me through my startup phase without dipping into my retirement account.

Most importantly, I started this business with a spreadsheet to track and predict my cash flow. I took charge of my business financials from Day One. When you start a business, understanding the numbers is every bit as important as following your passion.

3. I worked dangerously long hours

What I did the first time: When I started the business, I believed that being an entrepreneur meant working until I was worn down. During the holiday season, when I made a large chunk of my money in my craft business, I rarely got more than five hours of sleep at night.

It's a miracle that I didn't get into a car accident due to drowsy driving. This overwork was terrible for sales, too — I showed up to craft fairs so exhausted that I could barely talk to customers.

What I did the second time: The belief that you have to work long hours in a startup seems even more prevalent now than it was when I started my first business.

But I know that down time is fertile for creativity, and I get more accomplished by working shorter hours and recharging my batteries.

Most weeks, I work 36 hours or less. I have to prioritize fiercely and do only the most important tasks on my list. And I get to have two things I want very much: a successful business and a balanced life. You can start a successful business without running yourself into the ground.

9 common passive-aggressive work emails and how to neutralize each of them to still get what you want

woman sad annoyed text worried upset

  • Workplace emails might give you a headache.
  • And, if you have passive-aggressive coworkers, having to electronically communicate with them might make emails all the more stressful.
  • Adobe found the nine most-hated passive-aggressive email phrases in a recent survey. Business Insider asked a social worker and a psychologist how to respond to deescalate the situation.

If that snippy coworker is being passive-aggressive in an email (again!), resist the urge to send an equally snarly response.

"The goal of the passive-aggressive person is to get someone else to visibly act out the anger that they have been concealing," social worker Signe Whitson, author of "The Angry Smile," told Business Insider. "Any time their covertly hostile email is responded to with overt hostility, the passive aggressive person succeeds."

Don't fight fire with fire. If you do, you're just falling into the passive-aggressive person's trap.

Instead, Dr. Neil J. Lavender, author of "Toxic Coworkers: How to Deal with Dysfunctional People on the Job," said you should focus on what you need to do to complete the task at hand, rather than "majoring in the minors."

"If the email is requesting you to turn in a report, then turn it in. If you need to return a phone call, then return the phone call," Lavender told Business Insider. "Don’t get 'mired in the minutia.'"

Adobe found the nine most-hated passive-aggressive email phrases in a recent survey. Below, take a look at some key phrases you can use to diffuse the situation when one of those emails lands in your inbox.

SEE ALSO: 11 signs your boss is passive aggressive

'Not sure if you saw my last email'

With 25% of workers saying this is the most annoying email phrase, "Not sure if you saw my last email" was by far the most disliked phrase in Adobe's survey.

Lavender suggested beginning your note with, simply, "Thank you, I did receive your last email and..."

'Per my last email'

Whitson recommended leading your response with an equally brief, "Thanks for the reminder."

'Per our conversation'

This might be a sign that your worker is trying to create a paper trail from your in-person talks.

"A simple, 'Thanks for the recap' will go a long way in keeping a friendly workplace and rising above someone else’s covert anger," Whitson said.

13 iconic movies with more than one ending

$
0

titanic jack and roseFilmmakers usually have a strong vision for the stories they want to tell, but after re-writes, studio notes, and test screenings, the final product probably isn't exactly what they pitched.

With millions of dollars on the line, a bad reaction from test audiences can mean those stories end up being told in very different ways.

Major changes, including a total overhaul to a movie's ending are nothing, but modern viewers  are now privy to what might have been, thanks to all the bonus material released on DVDs within the last 20 years.

Below are 13 movies with more than one ending:

Test audiences absolutely hated the original ending of "My Best Friend's Wedding."

Filmmakers never planned on letting Julianne (Julia Roberts) end up with her best friend, Michael (Dermot Mulroney), after she tried to sabotage his wedding, but the original script offered the character a slightly happier ending.

Originally, Julianne immediately gets another shot at romance when a new man (John Corbett) approaches her at the wedding, and the film ends with them dancing together. That ending was scrapped after it screened for test audiences, who struggled to empathize with Roberts' character and hated the happy ending.

"They wanted her dead," director P.J. Hogan told Entertainment Weekly. "They just couldn't understand her motives."

The visceral reaction to the ending required a reshoot eight months after filming had wrapped. In order to find a conclusion that would satisfy both audiences and the studio — who were "very nervous" to make a film where Roberts would end up alone — the director expanded on the role of George (Rupert Everett), Julianne's gay best friend. In reshoots, Hogan added scenes between the two that would give the audience more empathy for Roberts' character and made sense to have George surprise her at the wedding in the film's new ending.

There are four possible endings to the "The Butterfly Effect."

"The Butterfly Effect" starred Ashton Kutcher as a time-traveling college student named Evan, who attempts to change the events of his traumatic childhood and discovers it has unforeseen consequences in the present. In the film's theatrical release, the movie ends with Evan recognizing his love interest Kayleigh (Amy Smart) on the street and making the decision to keep walking.

A far more depressing ending is featured on the extended director's cut DVD, which features Evan traveling back to the moment before his own birth and strangling himself with his own umbilical cord and never being born and subsequently causing pain to his loved ones. Additionally, two other endings were also filmed and included in DVD releases.

According to Movie Web, the film's depressing ending was never tested for audiences, but New Line Cinema allowed directors Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber to shoot their preferred version to include on DVD.

"Everyone thought the ending was amazing, but they didn't know for a mass release how audiences would fare with that," Gruber said "The differences between the director's cut and the theatrical cut were not the results of test audiences' comments. In fact, the DVD would be the first time the director's cut has ever been screened at all."

Test audiences said they were "confused" by the plot of "Blade Runner."

Multiple cuts of director Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi movie "Blade Runner" have been released over the years. Each version includes variations on choices and scenes that weren't originally included in the film's U.S. theatrical release. Small changes exist throughout these versions, but the movie has two endings.

According to Vanity Fair, test audiences said they were "confused" by the plot of the film, which prompted Scott to make changes to the film's ending. The film now ended on a happier note and included unused aerial footage filmed by Stanley Kubrick for "The Shining." In this version, Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rachael (Sean Young) drive off together while Deckard explains in a voice-over that Rachael wouldn't self-destruct in four years like other replicants. The original ending, contained no voice-over and kept things more ambiguous as the movie simply concluded with Deckard and Rachel leaving in an elevator.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos

  • Brand Finance, a brand consultancy firm, released their most recent ranking of the most valuable brands in the world in 2018.
  • The firm looks at marketing investment, stakeholder investment, and business performance to help it measure how much each brand contributes to the company.
  • Amazon took the top spot this year.
  • E-commerce, in general, dominated the list, with Amazon, Alibaba, and JD.com all ranking in the top 10.

Amazon is the most valuable brand in the world — but Walmart and Alibaba aren't far behind.

Brand Finance's 500-strong ranking shows how overwhelmingly digital of an age we live in, with a number of e-commerce brands taking top spots in the ranking. Home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ikea also have retained spots in the top 10, with Home Depot's value up 12% from last year.

Target saw the greatest drop in value, down 20% from last year. According to Brand Finance, the brands that dropped in value are still trying to adapt to the digitalization of the industry, while online-only brands like Amazon and Aliaba are on the rise.

Here are top 10 most valuable brands, according to the firm's rankings:

The 20 schools with the best chances to make the College Football Playoff

Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney

College football is back, and even though the top teams have not played yet, we already have a sense of which schools have the best shot to make the fifth installment of the 4-team playoff at the end of the season.

We still don't know precisely how the committee picks the final four teams, but we have learned a few things over the years. We know they like the SEC and Alabama. We know they generally prefer conference champions if most other criteria are in the same ballpark. And we know they don't like to give bids to Pac-12 and Big 12 teams in the same year.

With what we have learned so far, we have some idea of what teams need to do to make the playoff. Below, we ranked the top 20 teams in the country based on their chances to make the playoff.

20. Florida State

AP Rank: 19

Key games: The Seminoles get a tough test right out of the gate against Virginia Tech. They also have road games against Miami, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Louisville. Oh yeah, and there are home games against Clemson and what should be an improved Florida team.

One thing to know: New coach Willie Taggart has a lot of talent to work with, but it might take a season for them to adjust to his style, and for the team to recover from their 2017 debacle. The good news is that the path to the ACC title game is pretty clear if they do rebound: beat Clemson at home.

19. UCF

AP Rank: 21

Key games: UCF does not face a team ranked in the preseason top 25, but does close the season on the road against South Florida.

One thing to know: After missing out on the playoff in 2017, UCF could put pressure on the playoff committee if they run the table. But if they do, they will have to do it without head coach Scott Frost who left for Nebraska. But maybe just as huge was not promoting either of Frost's coordinators and letting both follow him to Nebraska.

18. Mississippi State

AP Rank: 18

Key games: The Bulldogs have Auburn at home in early October and then play road games at LSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

One thing to know: New coach Joe Moorhead inherits a lot of talent from Dan Mullen, who left for Florida. That includes dual-threat QB Nick Fitzgerald. On the flip-side, they are still in the same division as Auburn, Alabama, and LSU.

9 people share their anniversary horror stories — and they'll make you cringe

couple dateAnniversaries with your significant other are supposed to be a time to celebrate a new milestone in your relationship and the love you share. But sometimes the universe has different ideas, and a day that's supposed to be a celebration of love can turn into a disaster.

Instead of an anniversary dinner, romantic getaway, or that perfect gift, some couples deal with hospital stays, adultery, frustrating in-laws, and significant others that forgot the date altogether.

Several Redditors share some of their anniversary horror stories, and although INSIDER can't independently verify any of these stories, they are certainly fascinating to read.

"Happy Anniversary to me... from my hospital bed. "

"Happy Anniversary to me... from my hospital bed. So, today is mine and my partner's second wedding anniversary. When we got home [from our morning activites], my back started to ache. I thought it was just from walking around all morning and blew it off. At one point, I got up to go to the bathroom and all of the sudden the pain started to escalate quickly. Before I know it, I was doubled over in pain. I have a history of kidney stones, so I knew this pain and I knew it was a stone ...

When we arrived, the doctor barely looked at me and sent me to the OB special care unit. I am definitely stuck here for the night." — Redditor gingerbutnotrude

"[He] announces that he's leaving me for his brother's girlfriend."

"A week after our 14th anniversary, my husband comes home from visiting his brother and announces that he's leaving me for his brother's girlfriend. I knew her— we were friends. We spent family vacations and holidays together. And, as a bonus, she's 10 years, to the day, younger than me."— Redditor LimeGreenDiva

"He'd taken a nap and failed to wake up."

"On my first anniversary with my (now) ex, I got all dressed up, and waited for him to pick me up. I waited and waited. I was living at home at the time and getting awful pity looks from my mother, which didn't help. I waited some more and phoned him, but got no answer. I assumed he was on his way over so I waited, still getting pity looks from my mom. Eventually, he turned up hours late, looking disheveled.

He'd taken a nap and failed to wake up. He didn't apologize, and we didn't go out after all — it was too late by then. He took me back to his place and was confounded when I wasn't instantly in the mood for wild sex. He'd made no comments about how I looked, even though I'd made a massive effort to look good for him. He sulked horribly until I decided I'd had enough and went home."— Redditor ConnieC60

These are the most and least biased news outlets in the US, according to Americans

CNN reporter Jim Acosta

  • A Gallup/Knight Foundation survey found that Americans think most of the news they consume is inaccurate and biased.
  • Republicans said they thought only Fox News and The Wall Street Journal were unbiased, while Democrats felt that way about most mainstream outlets.
  • Overall, survey respondents said PBS News and The Associated Press were the least biased outlets.

Americans believe that 62% of the news they consume on TV, in newspapers, and on the radio is biased, according to a survey from the Knight Foundation and Gallup.

Those surveyed said they believe that 44% of news reporting and 64% of news on social media is inaccurate. And they're upset about it — more than 80% said they were angered or bothered by seeing biased information, and slightly more felt similarly about seeing inaccurate information.

In evaluating news outlets, respondents closely associated bias with inaccuracy. In their view, outlets they feel are biased are also inaccurate.

But perceptions of bias and inaccuracy differed based on the respondents' political persuasions, particularly with regard to Fox News, Breitbart News, CNN, and MSNBC. Overall, the only two media organizations Republicans surveyed said weren't biased were Fox News and The Wall Street Journal.

President Donald Trump often takes issue with outlets like CNN and The New York Times for publishing critical stories about his administration. In a tweetstorm on Thursday morning he described the media the "Enemy of the People!"

Survey respondents with different political views had different perceptions of the pervasiveness of bias in the news. For example, Democrats said they believe that just 44% of news on TV, in newspapers, and on the radio is biased, while Republicans said they believe 77% of it is biased.

Presented with a host of major news outlets, respondents ranked PBS News and The Associated Press as the least biased outlets, while Fox News and Breitbart News tied for being perceived as most biased. The survey was conducted from February 5 to March 11.

Here are the survey's results for how biased respondents thought each news outlet was overall, ranked from most to least biased (a negative score indicates more people said the outlet was more biased than unbiased, while a positive score indicates more people thought the outlet was more unbiased than biased):

Polled as the most biased news organization by respondents, Fox News earned a -87 bias score among Democrats and those who lean Democratic. But among Republicans and those who lean Republican, Fox News was polled as the least biased news organization, with a +3.

1. Breitbart News: -51 (tie)

Tied with Fox News, Breitbart News registered a -73 bias score among Democrats and those who lean Democratic. But unlike Fox News, Breitbart did not receive a positive bias score among Republicans and those who lean Republican. In fact, Breitbart earned a -19 rating from this group.

3. MSNBC: -37

Like Breitbart, MSNBC earned a negative bias rating from both Republicans and Democrats. But while Democrats and those who lean Democratic gave MSNBC a -1 bias rating, Republicans and those who lean Republican gave it a -85.

The 10 most expensive celebrity homes ever purchased

Hugh Hefner Playboy mansion

  • Many of the world's biggest celebrities use their enormous wealth to treat themselves to a breathtaking mansion.
  • Oprah Winfrey has an estate in California worth $90 million, complete with a beautiful rose garden.
  • Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have a chateau in France that cost $60 million, and was the location for their wedding in 2014.

While some celebs are veritable real estate moguls that invest their ample funds into a plethora of realty, others may just own one, incredibly expensive property.

Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and Beyoncé are just a few big names with even bigger estates.

Keep scrolling to see just how much money some celebs are willing to drop on a single place.

Oprah Winfrey has a 65-acre estate in California estimated to be worth almost $100 million.

Oprah Winfrey has a whole 65 acres all to herself at her estate in Montecito, California, which is known as the "Promised Land."

While she purchased the 23,000-square-foot mansion for $50 million in 2001, today it's estimated to be worth almost twice that, thanks to the addition of more land and lavish renovations.

The expansive mansion has six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, 10 fireplaces, two theaters (one inside and one outside), a wine cellar, a barn, ponds and orchards, a tennis court, a lake, and a huge guesthouse with a pool. There is also a tea house, because why not?

The Playboy Mansion was sold in 2016 for $100 million.

Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion is arguably the most notorious home in the world. The 30-room house features a game room, zoo, aviary, grotto, tennis court, basketball court, wine cellar, and a screening room with a built-in pipe organ.

Hefner originally bought it for only $1.1 million in 1971, but sold it for $100 million in 2016. Despite that being about half of his asking price, at the time it was the largest residential real estate deal in Los Angeles history

Beyoncé and Jay-Z recently bought a Los Angeles pad that cost $88 million.

The power couple, whose combined worth Forbes put at $1.16 billion, purchased a modern mansion in Bel Air for around $88 million, which includes a full spa, a media room, and four outdoor swimming pools. The property also includes a basketball court, a 15-car garage, and staff housing.

  • An $85 million penthouse apartment in New York City comes with some mind-blowing extras.
  • The buyer of the 10-bedroom Manhattan condo will get two tickets for a trip to outer space.
  • They'll also be given a $1 million yacht, a one-year vacation rental in the Hamptons, two Rolls Royce Phantoms, and a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster.
  • Celebrities including Brendan Fraser, Jeremy Piven, and Hilary Duff have reportedly called the building home.

A luxury duplex penthouse in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood will cost you a cool $85 million to buy, but some sweet perks come along with the hefty purchase.

Most notably, the buyer of 635 W. 42nd St. #45 will get two tickets for a trip to outer space, each worth $250,000.

The 10-bedroom penthouse of the Atelier Condominiums complex has been on the market for two years, according to Daniel Neiditch, president of Atelier Condominiums and River2River Realty. Fortune magazine, however, reported that it's been for sale for five years.

Neiditch told Business Insider the listing was recently put back on the market with added bonuses — including the space trip — and the addition of an extra 5,000 square feet, so it now occupies the entire top floor of the building and half the floor below.

Celebrities and other prominent names love living in the building for its privacy, security, and location, according to Neiditch.

Here's a look inside.

The nominees for the 2018 Emmy Awards span decades in the industry.

Cecily Tyson started working in the 50s, but others, like 14-year-old "Stranger Things" actress Millie Bobby Brown, are just getting started.

The Emmys this year will be held on September 17 in Los Angeles and will be hosted by "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost. Watch the ceremony on NBC starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Here's how this year's nominees got their start in Hollywood.

Jason Bateman was a child actor, making his acting debut as James Cooper Ingalls on "Little House on the Prairie."

He earned two nominations this year for "Ozark" as lead actor in a drama and for directing.

Elisabeth Moss got her start on TV movies and shows, including "Midnight's Child."

This is her second nomination for "The Handmaid's Tale." She won in 2017 for lead actress and the series won for outstanding drama. She was nominated six times for "Mad Men," but never won.

Donald Glover was in a number of short internet videos and was a writer for "30 Rock" in 2006, where he also made some cameos.

He has earned 8 nominations for "Atlanta" for directing, writing, acting, and producing. He also earned a nomination this year for his guest spot on "Saturday Night Live." He's won twice.
